5 of 5  Great Place!!!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Denver, CO, March 28, 2008

We booked this through hotels.com for the night before our cruise. Our flight landed at 5:30 in the morning and we had requested early check in but didn't think they'd let us check in this early.

So we get our rental car, drive around and find the hotel ... my husband goes in to check and yes they did let us check in at 9 a.m. No extra charge, nothing. Great customer service.

After our bags were taken up we enjoyed the free continental breakfast and it was amazingly good. Hot eggs, sausage, biscuits, muffins, cereals, juices, coffee (GREAT COFFEE).

Check out was also fast and they provided (for a small fee) transport to the pier for the cruise.

I would definitely stay here again, price is right, people are great, food is wonderful, rooms are large, clean and comfortable.

5 of 5  A great spot!, A TripAdvisor Member, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, February 17, 2008

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for one night and took a cruise the following day. We found the site very clean and the whole staff was friendly and helpful. They did everything possible to answer our questions and get us to and from our ship.

(They have a $15/person shuttle service that will take you to the port and then pick you up and take you to the airport or the hotel when you return. Amazing service!

A continental breakfast was included and it was excellent. Eggs, bacon, toast, cereals, yogurt and fruits were available.

There is a free shuttle to and from the airport and they offered to take us anywhere within five miles of the hotel if we wanted.

We chose to have supper at the Bahama Breeze restaurant which was right beside the hotel. It too was excellent.

The pool looked great but we did not use it.

I highly recommend this hotel and it offered good value. For a $100-$140 Family style hotel, it deserves an "Excellent" rating.

5 of 5  Wonderful Location-Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, felovesle, February 8, 2007

This Hotel was wonderful & very accommodating. We used/loved the FREE shuttle service (within 5 miles & airport). Our flight into Tampa was early, we arrived at the Hotel by 11am. They offered Luggage Lock-up! We went next door to the Bahama Breeze restaurant. We saw several Dolphins jumping out of the water! Our room was ready early around 12:30pm. VERY CLEAN & STAFF WAS GREAT. We took the FREE shuttle to the local Mall & when we wanted to return they were in between drivers & they paid for a return taxi! We will definately return. Warm/clean heated pool, with a wonderful view of the bay. GREAT FREE breakfast, lots of choices. They offer shuttles or taxis to the cruise ports for a small fee. They are about 12 miles from cruise ports, but it was worth it....what a relaxing way to start a vacation!

5 of 5  Wonderful Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, NJ, December 2, 2006

My family and I only stayed there one night before a flight, but we were highly impressed. It was a beautiful, very clean hotel. You could not ask for better. It was immaculate, and they were very attentive. The room was very spacious. I loved the bathroom too! :) The 'continental breakfast' was incredible. They had SO much to choose from!

I have NOTHING bad to say about this hotel, and I plan on staying there again.

5 of 5  Great Hotel for short break, A TripAdvisor Member, Dumfries, United Kingdom, October 25, 2006

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and were very impressed. The hotel is being redecorated and our room had recently been re-done and was cosy and fresh. I had requested a view of the bay which we had and were overlooking the pool. We were in the pool each night.

The girl that was on reception was very friendly and helpful. The buffet continental breakfast offered a good choice of cereals. yogurts. muffins, bagels, pastries etc, etc.

My only complaint would be we wanted a family room with 2 beds and the beds were small doubles. This didnt delight my 12 and 15 year old who were sharing a bed but it was only for 3 nights and everything else outweighed this.

5 of 5  Excellent choice!, A TripAdvisor Member, Kitchener Waterloo, Canada, October 13, 2006

We stayed one night at this hotel before we sailed on our cruise and it was perfect for what we needed and we got a great rate. Free shuttle from the airport, nice room, very good complimentary breakfast with way more than I expected, great view, and extremely close to the airport. The only downer was the lack of a sidewalk across the big highway that separated us from Landry's Seafood House (which was very good). If you need a no-frills but nice-stay hotel, don't hesitate to stay at Holiday Inn Express Rocky Point.

5 of 5  Awesome!, A TripAdvisor Member, Chesterfield, Virginia, September 12, 2006

This was a great place to stay. We spent 3 nights here in Aug & were very happy. I emailed the hotel a weke before our stay asking for water-view & we were reminded that we were in a water-view room when we checked in. The foyer is beautiful & the woman who checked us in was the best we've ever experienced. She immediately noticed we had 6 (including small children) in our party & immediately gave us more towels/washcloths. She also gave us info on the pool hours/towels w/out us having to ask. She was very friendly & helpful.

The room was typical for this price range - 2 full beds, table, chairs, etc. It was clean & substantial. They were beginning renovations (not that I think it really needed it) while we were there.

The pool is located behind the hotel, between the building & the bay! It's a nice view & relaxing. The grounds are kept nicely all around the hotel w/ lush vegetation ... it's nice to look at!

Continental breakfast was very nice & well-stocked. The woman taking care of the breakfast was very nice & accomodating, asking those who were still eating at closing time if there was anything else they wanted before she closed up.

I liked the location of this place. It's convenient to the airport but a little further to St Pete & Clearwater. But if you're going to visit a lot of places in the vicinity I think it's a good choice. I felt safe & liked our location. It felt very "Floridian".

5 of 5  Excellent and convenient, A TripAdvisor Member, uk, March 8, 2006

Excellent waterside location. Particularly nice bay/sunset views. Convenient access for TPA airport but not so close as to be troubled by aircraft noise. Good rooms, clean and comfortable. Fitness room and small waterside pool. Good buffet breakfast. Excellent breakfast area staff to clean and replenish. Does get very busy midweek with business/conference trade so book ahead. Rates lower at weekends. Holiday Inn website gives lowest rates and is easy to use.

5 of 5  great place to stay, A TripAdvisor Member, melbourne, florida, December 4, 2005

Stayed here on Nov 20th for one night. This place is very well kept up it smelled very clean and is in a great area if you have a vehicle. The rooms are very spacious, the shower has the curtain road that is a half circle so the curtain doesnt stick to you. Good shower pressure too. The breakfast bar is good too with cinnemon(sp) rolls, danishes, juices, cerals, hard boiled eggs and other assorted things. I went to go next door to eat dinner but the wait was 1-1/2 hours long so i asked the front desk and they told me of a steak place (i forget the name) that was just a few blocks away and they also gave me a coupon for free dessert. This place has a wonderful atmosphere and wonderful food! The best baked potato ive ever had! Best of all the wait was only like 2 minutes! I will probably stay at this hotel every time i come to tampa unless i have extra money to stay at the hard rock! :o) To sum it up stay here you will like it!

5 of 5  Great Place to stay!!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Sacramento, CA, September 15, 2005

This is by far one of the best Holiday Inn Express Hotels I've stayed at!!!!

As a rule, I prefer the Holiday Inn Express Hotels, as we have teenagers and they have continenetal breakfasts....

We stayed in a "suite" at this hotel for three nights prior to our cruise and again for one night after our cruise. Our first three nights we looked out over the water and the final night we had a room looking at the parking lot [but that was okay ... we were leaving very early the next a.m. so didn't need a view.] Each of our rooms had two double beds and a sofa bed. As per one of the earlier reviews, my daughter indicated that the matching chair to the sofa was incredibly comfortable and she wanted to take it home. The rooms also had a small refrigerator and microwave, as well as some dishes and utensils. The hotel is right off the causeway and is within driving distance of many restaurants as well as close to the airport.

The customer service provided by this hotel is SUPERB! The continental breakfast is great and the breakfast host is pleasant and helpful. The front desk staff is truly top notch and the housekeeping staff is friendly and efficient. The pool is great, there are vending machines on several of the floors of the hotel and the rooms are comfortable and very clean.

I would definitely stay in this hotel again and WILL recommend it to anyone going to Tampa.

5 of 5  Loved this Holiday Inn Express, A TripAdvisor Member, North Fort Myers, FL, May 31, 2005

Stayed here Friday, May 13, in a two bed "suite". Booked this hotel on Holiday Inn's web site and it pictured and explained the suite as a large room with a half wall between the sleeping area and living area. The living area had a couch, 2 chairs, a coffee table, and a wall area with a microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, small sink, and cabinets with dishes. We didn't use any of this as we were only staying one night. My husband has back problems and said the chair was one of the most comfortable he has ever had in a hotel. Our room looked out over the water, the distant causeway, and more water which was a nice view. We walked next door to have dinner at the Bahama Breeze restaurant which also is waterside. The waiter told us that you can often see dolpins in this stretch of water, but it was too windy the day we were there.

5 of 5  What a Deal, A TripAdvisor Member, New York, May 14, 2005

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Tampa - Rocky Point Island before our cruise. No need for a car. The shuttle picks you up at the airport, and will take you to restaurants or stores within 2 miles of the hotel. We found the hotel to be very clean and modern. The pool was clean and open until 10:00 p.m. In the morning there is a very nice continental breakfast included in the very reasonable price. We would definately stay at this hotel again.

5 of 5  Previous Review NOT about this holiday inn., A TripAdvisor Member, December 24, 2004

The previous reviewer obviously has this inn confused with another one.

This is no where near the stadium --- not within walking distance at all.

This is a lovely Holiday Inn on the water near the airport. We found it

to be excellent in every way when we stayed there. The parking lot is fine, well-lit and near other hotels and nice restaurants. In fact, we stay there because you can leave your car there for free when you are flying out of Tampa. They have a shuttle to take you to the airport and pick you up. We felt fine leaving our car there, and plan to stay at this hotel every time we fly out of Tampa.

4 of 5  great location for wedding guests, A TripAdvisor Member, Tampa, October 19, 2008

I blocked rooms at the Holiday Inn Express for our out of town wedding guests. Everyone said how they enjoyed their stay. The rooms were pretty basic hotel rooms. My parents commented how the staff was excellent. They offer a free shuttle to the airport and anywhere within a 5 mile radius. The pool was small, but still nice. Guests enjoyed the free breakfast in the morning which included muffins, waffles, bacon etc... they change it up each day. When my parents were waiting on the shuttle to come to my wedding, after being out dropping someone else off somewhere - the woman at the front desk (I think her name was Jennifer) offered to leave the hotel and take them over herself, which was REALLY nice. The only thing I was disappointed in was that we blocked the rooms at $99 per night... but many guests found better rates through AAA and orbitz.. some as low as $74 a night. Then those guests weren't included in the final list I got from the hotel to leave welcome bags with - so that was a little confusing. Overall though, it's a great little hotel.

4 of 5  Good value for a pre-cruise stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Monessen PA, July 15, 2008

Needed a hotel for our 1 night pre-cruise stay in Tampa

Selected a HI-Express partly due to our positive experience with one at Ft. Lauderdale 2 years prior.

Hotel is not all that new but is in good condition and quite clean.

As others have noted, Bahama Breeze is near by and that's all there is for food within walking distance. However the hotel shuttle

will take you anywhere within a 5 mile radius (2 large malls with several restaurants-- we went to the International Mall where they had a Cheese Cake Factory)

When booking thru the hotel direct- we were able to book a pre-cruise package that included shuttle to the dock, others at the hotel used a park-n-cruise package that included parking of their car during the cruise and shuttle to and from the dock.

All in all a good value for a nice, clean hotel if all you want is a place to sleep prior to a cruise

4 of 5  Good stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Manteno, IL, April 15, 2008

I rarely stay at Holiday Inn's but found this one to be pleasant. I had stayed here many years ago. The rooms have been updated some and found it to be very clean which is what is important to me. Negatives would be maids came very late, knocked on the door with do not disturb on to give me towels I did not need, poor internet service, small pool in need of new chairs. I had a view of the water. Was neat to see the dolphins jumping around outside the window. Over all if you are looking for a clean room - if the price is right it is a good stay.

4 of 5  Good HI Express, A TripAdvisor Member, Iowa, October 25, 2007

My family stayed at this hotel for two nights in July. Clean HI Express. No complaints about the hotel, rooms, lobby, breakfast were all within HI Express standards. My only complaint is there is not really much around this hotel. If you need munchies or want to go to a restraunt you have a short drive. It is close to the airport and I would stay here again if I needed someplace close to the airport. Otherwise I may choose another location when in the Tampa area.

4 of 5  Great Hotel for the price, A TripAdvisor Member, Ohio, April 28, 2007

We stayed here for two nights in April and enjoyed the view of the bay. The hotel had free internet, free continental breakfast and the location was perfect. They offered shuttle service to the airport and the malls. The room and the hotel were clean and we had all the little bathroom items such as free shampoo, conditioner, gel, etc... (I didn't receive this at a higher end hotel so I was surprised this little hotel offered what it did.) It had a pool and a laundry facility to wash clothes. The fitness room was good. The Bahama Breeze next door was a plus and overall we enjoyed the visit. The staff was very pleasant and helpful and if your looking for a no frills hotel that is clean this would be the place.

4 of 5  Easy from the airport, Big rooms, Good Quality for the Money, A TripAdvisor Member, Saffron Walden, April 12, 2007

We stayed here for one night in March as a stop over on the way down to Englewood on the Gulf Coast. Flying in from the UK we were all pleased to find the hotel located within a 5 minute drive from Tampa airport.

The Hotel itself is pretty much a lobby, small pool and rooms, but for what we wanted it really didn't matter that there wasn't a restaurant.

The rooms are pretty spacious with 2 queens and a sleeper sofa which suited our family of 5 perfectly. The beds were comfortable and everything was in good condition. The only complaint we'd mention was the air conditioning, which is a unit on the wall rather than central piped air so it did rattle and hum like and old fridge when it kicked in through the night.

We'd stay there again without hesitation though, because for the money, the quality would be hard to beat!

4 of 5  Recommended for the business traveler, A TripAdvisor Member, Rosario, January 12, 2007

Stayed for a few days, found it very good for the business traveler. Clean, friendly staff, good breakfast, good Internet access in room, adequate gym, and since everything is pretty close by in Tampa it was fine location-wise. Recommended!

4 of 5  Nice hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Woodstock, Georgia, November 5, 2006

My husband & I stayed here for 1 night prior to a flight from TPA. They have a great fly/park package esp. if you have an early flight. We left our car there & took the shuttle to TPA-upon our arrival back,we called the hotel & they sent the shuttle to pick us up (at 12 midnite) we arrived back at our car & drove home. The room was very nice & clean but the mattress could have been more comfy. The restaurant next door Bahama Breeze was very good, also.

4 of 5  Great Choice, A TripAdvisor Member, Atlanta, GA, October 17, 2006

We stayed here based on TripAdvisor reviews and the proximity to Raymond James Stadium and were not disappointed. I requested a water view with my reservation and when I checked in, I was upgraded to a water view suite. The suite was very nice, which included a sitting area with a sofa and chair. The hotel is convenient and although it is close to the airport, we never heard any planes. My only complaint is that the front desk clerk in the evening was more concerned with getting off than giving good information. I requested the shuttle Saturday night to go to the game Sunday and when we went down to catch it, he had overbooked it - only taking room numbers and not the actual number of guests. Overall, the good definitely outweighed the bad and the price was very good especially with USF and the Bucs having games that weekend (but try to book at least 2 weeks in advance; the rates went up significantly with a shorter time).

4 of 5  Nice but out of the way, A TripAdvisor Member, Sheboygan, May 12, 2006

Very nice hotel. We stayed there 1 night before taking a cruise. Not much to do around there though. Bahama Breeze was very nice. If you are taking a cruise I would recommend staying downtown near the cruise terminal.

4 of 5  A great stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Maple Grove, October 3, 2005

This review is very delayed but still heartfelt. We arrived on a Saturday at 12:30 in the afternoon with no hope of our room being ready yet but just wanted a call on our cell phone to alert us when the room would be ready while we were site-seeing (check-in I believe was at 3:00 p.m.). To our surprise our room was ready and within 3 minutes we were checked in and on our way!! The young man who was at the front desk was very friendly, but not in an obtrusive or obnoxious sort of way.

The non-smoking 2 double bed room was fine and had a lovely view. There were a few small black marks on the walls from suitcases and were not too objectionable (I try not to sweat the small stuff). My 10 year old daughter swam in the pool and found it just to her liking. The hotel is in a great location to do a lot of traveling and it suited our needs just fine as we had a very early morning flight. I was disappointed that we did not have enought time (after exploring) to take advantage of the jet skiing available from the place next door. My daughter was very happy that the cinnamon rolls were ready early and she was able to take a couple for our short ride to the Tampa airport.

If I was staying in Tampa for a cruise, or needed a place to stay for a late night flight or an early morning departure, I would not hesitate to stay at the Holiday Inn Express at Rocky Point.

4 of 5  Excellent Value, A TripAdvisor Member, Chicago, September 14, 2005

I was a little leary with the very low price, but it was a winner. Free wireless, breakfast stuff, great location close to the water, quiet. Bahama Breeze right next door which is a pretty cool place.

4 of 5  Short visit, wish it was longer, A TripAdvisor Member, Allison Park, Pennsylvania, March 28, 2005

My husband, myself and my two teens stayed at this hotel on Mar. 26, 2005 because it was close to the Tampa Airport and we had an early flight. We didn't get to the hotel until 5:00 pm and the pool was already almost all in the shadow of the building, but it was a clean and heated. The road noise was loud from the pool area, as well as the constant jet ski traffic on the nearby bay area. Our room overlooked the parking lot, but was very affordable. The room was fairly clean and comfortable. Nothing ourstanding, but adequate. We had dinner at the nearby Bahama Breeze. They have "call ahead seating" which I highly recommend. There was a line to check in and the people ahead of us were told 1 1/2 to 2 hour wait, while we only had a 20 min. wait. The food was good, affordable, and the atmosphere fun (even with the crowds of spring breakers). It is very convenient to be 2 miles from the airport and would recommend this hotel. Good quality for the price.

4 of 5  very nice stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Maine, March 19, 2005

Stayed here in early March after a late flight into Tampa. After shopping around for the best rate I was able to get this hotel at $98.00 per room with my AAA discount. The courtesy van picked us up at the airport around midnight and also took us over to get our rental car the next morning. The driver couldn't have been more helful with directions and information. He showed a lot of patience and good humor. The room was fine but the pool and patio area were the best. We enjoyed the very nice complimentary breakfast (bagels, muffins, cereal, etc.) in the sunshine - very pleasant and relaxing. The location is bayside but has a busy highway nearby. I would definitely stay here again when in Tampa.

4 of 5  Hotel location is great. Service excellent, be sure to get a clean room, A TripAdvisor Member, Boston, MA, March 17, 2005

This is the 2nd time I stayed at this location. Its a great location, right near the airport. The ocean view rooms are ausome. Its a very low key place. The heated pool was ok, a little cold for the time of year, went in March 2005.

I stayed in a nice room, but I noticed a blook stain on the curtain for the shower. I had it replaced. Be sure you check the room, before you use it.

I was pleased with my stay. I stayed there about two days.

The breakfast is fantastic. Everyone loved it.

The traffic can be a little busy. The hotel is off a very busy , causeway. Around 5pm on Friday. The traffic is deadlocked. So it's a little hard to getout.

My 2nd recommendation is the Springhill Suites hotel by Marriott. Its a really nice hotel near Dale Mayby.

If you need info, email me at Boston35@yahoo.com. I go to FLorida every march for Baseball training.

3 of 5  Good Value, A TripAdvisor Member, Boston, August 24, 2006

Stayed here in August 2006. Staff was friendly and very helpfull. Large room had 2 dbl beds, sleeper sofa, microwave oven, coffee maker(complimentary coffee), small fridge, free internet. Room was clean but a bit worn. Common areas show lots of wear stained carpets scuffed walls. Vending machines and coin operated washers on each floor. Nice view from pool area. Free continental breakfast was good. Toast, muffins, some dry cereal, coffee, juice, danishes. Some restaurants near by, close to a small public beach. Overall a good place to stay. Would be excellent if they replaced carpeting and painted the walls.

2 of 5  first time I was ever disappointed by a Trip Advisor review., A TripAdvisor Member, Brush Prairie, WA, November 13, 2007

Hallways are dingy. Hotel badly in need of remodel. Breakfast bar was all cereals and breads. No protein. Housekeeping walked right in at 8:30am without knocking. The picture on the website made it look like the view over the water was a lot better than it was. After looking forward to staying at a lovely hotel with a good rating from T.A., I was very disappointed.

However, it was very conveniently located by the airport, and Bahama Breeze was a nice place next door to go have a cocktail.

1 of 5  Don't trust the guarantee of a bay view room, A TripAdvisor Member, Jacksonville, FL, July 16, 2007

I called two weeks in advance and booked a suite with a bay view (guaranteed). When I called the day before arrival, I was told it was NOT a bay view (that meant parking lot view). I cancelled the reservation with 30 minutes to spare before the penalty kicked in. The guy on the phone was disinterested and unapologetic.
