Didn't like it-Dirty and Damp! | Read all reviews
I wish I could write a good review of the Hyatt Place Busch Gardens since this was the place that started off our 7 day trip to Florida. Unfortunately, I found the hotel room extremely damp. The pillows felt wet, our clothes in our suitcases had to be hung out to dry when we arrived at our next hotel. The carpet felt spongy, wet. My husband and I used the lobby bathrooms one morning and couldn't believe how dirty they were, as if they hadn't been cleaned in a few days. No toilet paper. The glass case where the muffins and cookies were full of finger prints and grime. The pool area wasn't used at all in our two day stay and that says a lot. It is in the back of the hotel, and had stuff floating in it. Two positives that I do have to say are that the decor was neat and the free breakfasts were nice. However, I wouldn't stay there again.

I booked this hotel last moment as I wanted to be close to the airport. Our room was a brilliant size with a separate living area & a 42 inch TV. Did not smell any damp as previously suggested. I have to say the staff made our stay they were very pleasant & the courtesy bus took you up to 3 miles without charge We chose this hotel because it was in close proximity to Moffitt Cancer Center and, also, had a financial agreement with Moffitt to provide better rates for patients. We were very surprised to find such a spacious room with a large sitting area, king size bedroom, a 42" plasma TV, refrigerator, micro, and two sinks, one with a very large marble vanity. It had recently switched ownership from AmeriSuites to Hyatt and the upgrades were obvious. The pillowtop mattress, multiple pillows and lovely linens added to the luxurious feel of the mini-suite. We thought that, the courtesy of the staff ,along with the ambience, were enough to please the most discerning traveler but an extra bonus was the Sarbucks across the street. We would not hesitate to stay here again and look forward to our next visit to Tampa! My 8 year old son and I stayed here for 2 nights in Mid July. Everything was great. Are trip purpose was to visit Busch Gardens, Adventure Island and go to a Devil Rays game and for all of that; this hotel was perfect in every way. This hotel is a 5minute drive to either Busch Gardens or Adventure Island-very easy drive. The room was clean, roomy and the beds very comfortable. The pool area was large and also very clean. The breakfast area was clean and the continental breakfast was good. Most important-the Hyatt team of employees were all friendly, smiling and willing to offer any help needed. You will enjoy your stay at this Hyatt Place. Stayed at this hotel for 1 night mid-june whilst visiting busch gardens. We arrived early at the hotel and they were able to get us both rooms we had booked way before check-in time which was great so we could get straight to the park. Staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel is situated 5 mins from busch gardens, and there a quite a few restaurants nearby, including a TGI's within walking distance. Had lunch at hotel, they do a good selection and also sell starbucks. Breakfast came with package, and there was plenty to choose from but it gets quite hectic. We were very pleased with both rooms, spacious good interior, including a large bed, desk, large sofa and tv. Bathroom was a bit small, but size of room made up for it. Both parts were very clean. There is a pool outside which could have done with a quick clean, but decent sized. Free parking, and free internet access. Only other thing we could have wanted was a shuttle to the park, but with it being so close this wasnt a problem. The price of the hotel was great and we would definatly recommend and use again. This is the second Hyatt Place I have stayed at. It was a good experence. The rooms are always the same. BIG TV and comfortable sitting area. Bed is comfortable. Tub is strange in that the bottom is kind of curved in the middle???? The breakfast was easy to get something to take back to the room. I still do not understand the order process; when I checked in the girl told me it was included but then I saw a menu with prices in the morning. I picked up a muffin, fruit and cereal ...it was fine. They have starbucks coffee also. Like I have sayed this was my second experence with Hyatt Place (one in Birmingham and this one) and they are exactly the same. The girl checking me in said that was the point and I could expect that everywhere. WIth that in mind I am sure I will continue to seek these out with future travel. What a hotwire deal $45.00 I wish I would of just stayed here for my whole vacation but Our Last night it was worth it. As with all the Other reviews the room was awesome the staff is outstanding we had a room with a bad AC and we were moved to another room and the staff was super courteous. We stayed for 7 days, to be near the hospital as we were visiting a relative. The hotel was clean, included a simple but nice cont. breakfast, free wireless internet, free apples all day (kids liked that) The pool was nice and heated although outdoors. Bush Gardens.. about 2m away... We booked using Priceline, and got it for about 75% off the published rate.. no lie... so it was very reasonable. The rooms were very modern, and had a 42" plasma tv that has all the connections for a video game/dvd/computer...way cool. The staff was fantastic, always asking how our relative was at the hospital, and went out of their way to make the stay comfortable for us (and others as we discovered). I would say this is a great 3 star hotel, with great service, nice and clean, and would come here again in a heartbeat. Staff was friendly, the room was incredible, the complimentary breakfast was great... I'd come back in a heartbeat! A smart 4 star hotel (I think) with a pool and internet facilities, the kids especially liked the huge TV in the bed room. We were also impressed with the sofa bed, which was larger than the double beds. It was a lovely room and had basic kitchen facilities. We also used the “entrance cafe” and ordered pizza’s for the boys to consume in the room. The breakfast was good. The foyer internet and printing facilities were useful. We had chosen the Hyatt Place for its convenience to Busch Gardens (which we loved - 5 minutes drive away), and although there were hotels closer to the park we were very pleased with our choice. Easy to find, we booked direct with the Hyatt telephone booking and paid £106 per night. We stayed for one night on 26th March '08 and found the staff very pleasant and helpful. We are not hotel snobs but I'm a stickler when it comes to a hotel smelling, looking and being clean so expectations are always high. We were VERY pleased with our stay at the Hyatt Place. We stayed 2 nights and it was SUPER convenient to Busch Gardens as well as MANY restuarants in the area. It is also convenient to a CVS Pharmacy which is very helpful for those last minute forgotten items! The staff at the counter were very helpful and pleasant and genuinely seemed to appreciate our patronage which isn't always common from hotel staff. The continental breakfast had toast, english muffins, fruit, bagels, cereal with all the condiments but if that doesn't suit you, you could order a huge waffle, or some other breakfast dishes from the kitchen and then there was always IHOP right down the road. They also have a display case at the check in with snack and drink items so it was very convenient. We grabbed a 12 pack of diet cokesat the local CVS and stuck them in the in room fridge so we didn't purchase any drinks from the snack counter. Now the room, the TV is HUGE which was nice even though we didn't spend tons of time in our room. The NCAA tournament was going on and it was nice to lay in bed and see BBall before we went to sleep. There was a pool outback but we didn't use it since we were at Busch GArdens all day and then off for the cruise. Our 11 year old daughter slept on the fold out sleeper sofa and said it was VERY comfortable and she could see the TV as well from bed. We would definitely stay at a Hyatt Place again. The rooms aren't huge but definitely workable for 3 people not planning on spending all day in the room. Everything was clean, bed slept great this was a great LOCATION! We stayed in various hotels in Tampa in the last year. The first time we stayed at Grand Hyatt Tampa, near the airport. Wonderful, wonderful hotel, we got a great deal during the summer time. Next time we stayed at Hyatt Place next to Busch Gardens. We wanted to stay at the Grand Hyatt again, but the price went way up. During the summer we paid $99/night. But in October the price went up to $300 and that was a lot. We decided to stay at the Hyatt Place, for $109/night. And it was a great choice: flat screen 42” HDTV, very comfortable beds, good free breakfast food, everything was really nice. And the service was excellent. The rooms are really big and spacious; it is really perfect for a big family with children as well. I didn’t find anything that I didn’t like about the Hyatt Place. And the price was right. And just to let you know, it is very close to Busch Gardens. Very nice hotel indeed! I stayed at this hotel while in Tampa for a training class. The hotel is very close to Busch Gardens - just down the road, although I never went there. The lobby area is beautifully decorated and the dining area where the complimentary breakfast is served is also very nice. Very clean kitchen area with nice dinnerware to eat from - the complimentary breakfast was the usual cereal, yogurt, fruit stuff, but you can also order other items from the kitchen at an extra cost if you want. The room was very nice - with an awesome 40 inch flat panel HD tv - I really liked the separate sitting area with the couch - which folds out into an extra bed if needed. For people on business, the desk area is spacious but oddly there is only one outlet right by the desk - which is already being used by the desk lamp and the phone - so you need to string your laptop electrical to the outlet right by the bar - a very minor annoyance but could have been better thought out. Free wireless wifi is available which worked fine - but would also prefer to have a ethernet option as sometime wifi reception can vary. The hotel staff was very friendly and I had a nice stay while here, the bed was very comfortable as well. While the hotel is near busch gardens - the choics of restaurants is plentiful, but limited in optoins, mostly TGI Fridays and similar fare - the Hyatt Place near the airport has higher end restaurant choices if that is your preference. The hotel is about 15 miles from the airport. My husband and i stayed here this past weekend for his birthday. We drove from Orlando, mainly to go to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino for a couple of days. The room was really nice, clean, large 42" screen T.V. and comfortable bed ... The room had a nice living room area with a large sofa and a small refrigerator. There were 3 things we both noticed that were not satisfactory ... The toilet was constantly running and making noise, so we had to keep the bathroom door closed, we never walk barefoot in a hotel room, but we took our shoes off for a moment and still had our socks on, the carpet appeared to be wet or damp, we couldn't tell if maybe it was just cold, and one thing i personally didn't like too much was the bathroom area is not really seperate from the rest of the room ... so there's really no privacy. Otherwise we only spent one night and it was quiet, staff was very friendly and courteous ... i would recommend this hotel and would stay here again. By the way you can get an excellent rate at Priceline with the "Name your price feature". Our party of 7 reserved 3 rooms at Hyatt Place Busch Gardens for one night before sailing from the Port of Tampa the next morning. Everyone loved this hotel - from the super comfy bed to the contemporary design, it was both comfortable and beautifully renovated. The fitness facility is fairly small, but included a couple treadmills, ellipticals and a recumbent bike. Two computers were available for Internet use, and they were always in use. The continental breakfast also was really good. I would definitely stay at this hotel again ... no complaints whatsoever. I recently stayed at this hotel when a group of friends and I decided to visit the Busch Gardens theme park. I had not been to the area in a good amount of years so I did not know what to expect. The hotel was fantastic! Everything that we needed and more. And its location to the park could not have been better! The rooms were spacious and adequate to accomodate all of us and the hotel employees were beyond helpful and friendly. We will definitely keep this hotel in mind when returning to Tampa. We stayed here for two nights last weekend. Our trip to Tampa was primarily to visit Busch Gardens, so we chose a hotel close to the property. This was our first stay in a Hyatt Place (since being re-branded from Amerisuites). We were extremely impressed. The brand has come up with a great concept, that the staff and management deliver with real aplomb. It really feels like a home from home. They give it a small B+B feel, but with all the benefits of a larger hotel. There is a reasonable size pool, which unfortunately we didn't have time to use. The rooms are really impressive. Big and very nicely appointed with a large flatscreen TV and lovely comfortable bed. Plenty of space to relax. The only thing lacking is an onsite restaurant, but who ever uses them anyway? (Within a few minutes walk there are numerous dining options to suit all tastes.) Continental breakfast was included in our rate, and that was a real bonus. It's served buffet style in a lovely "kitchen" area. It included fruit, yoghurt, juices, bagels, muffins and toast, aswell as Starbucks coffee and Tazo tea. If you want eggs etc. you can order them for an extra fee. What really sets the hotel apart is the fantatstic staff. Everyone we encountered was very friendly and professional. They seemed to really enjoy working there, which always makes the difference in any establishment. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. On future trips I will always look out for a Hyatt Place. The best luxury and price, great for business and pleasure. - mary - Today I have just returned from staying at this hotel, I thougfht it was wonderful. The room comfort and spaciousness of our room far exceeded our expectations. The staff was responsive and feindly and more attentive that some five stars that I have stayed in. The business center was a convenience that saved us much time and money planning other projects.
Our breakfast bar was always fresh and with starbucks coffee we were set to begin the day. There are also atleast two resturants rihgt outside the door with one being open 24hrs. for late night stops. The central location was great for us as we went downtown on 275 and south on 75 to several suburbs. The mall is just around the corner and of course Busch Gardens across the street.
This was my best stay in years, I loved it....
We were happy happy and well rested My father and 6yr son and myself stayed here for 1 night since we were visiting Busch Gardens and relatives. I was very impressed with this hotel. The staff and service was fantastic as was the nice spacious room and the free continental breakfast with all the Starbucks coffee you could drink from 7am till 10am. Free usage of the internet as well. I will stay there again if I am ever back in Tampa. AmeriSuites is newly renovated and rebranded as "Hyatt Place". I have stayed there several times in the past, and it has always been comfortable. But with their renovations, they've added really stylish decor and flat-screen TV's. Also, the location is very convenient to both Busch Gardens, USF, and lots of restaurants and shopping. This time around, I found a really cool book and music store called Mojo Books and Music -- highly recommended for any readers or music fans in your family -- we dropped over a hundred bucks, but we got a huge box full of good stuff (the prices are really good). In the same plaza as the bookstore was a new Chipotle Mexican Grill. The burritos are awesome and ridiculously cheap ($5 for a burrito big enough for 2). Hope you enjoy your stay as much as I did. The Hyatt Place Busch Gardens was a fantastic place to stay. Everything more than you would expect, from the sitting area, mini frig, 42" HDTV, power shower head, new/soft bath towels, free head phones in the workout room, treadmills with TVs, to the most comfortable bed and pillows. For the continental breakfast, the dishes were upscale, and the plates were heated. This hotel adds every little upscale detail you can think of to make your stay more comfortable. I appreciate their thoughts to all the details. We had a fantastic stay. Busch Gardens is less than one mile away. Great place to stay for Busch Gardens, esp. with the mini frig for keeping foods and drinks. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I traveled with a large group and had to make quick reservations because of other problems. We called and got a great rate with availability. The hotel is under renovation with the lobby area half way done. The rooms were aleady done and they are great. Very large, with a slight separation of the sleeping and living area. A HUGE flat screen TV for both sides to view. A great kitchenette and desk area too. We had 2 adults and 4-5 kids in each room, and it was just fine. A large sectional sofa in the living area that pulls out to a queen size sleeper, and still there was floor space for more kids to sleep on. The pool was simple, but adequate for our swimmers. It was clean. The whole property was well maintained. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. It is very close to Busch Gardens and USF. I would recommend for families and business travelers. We only stayed here for one night to do Busch for another day but can only say the room was fantastic!!! Nothing prepared us for such luxury...would we stay again...oh yes please!!!! My friends and I stayed at the hotel for a little getaway and must admit we were very pleasantly suprised. I booked it because the price was very cheap (for a getaway) but when we arrived to the rooms...wow....very posh! We live in Miami and are used to trendy, modern looking hotel rooms so when we walked in, we felt right at home. Its not an upscale hotel so dont expect to be slapped by luxury but I'll tell you what. . .Its one heck of a "Bang for the Buck"!! WE were OVERLY PLEASED with out stay at the AMERISUTES DIANE AT THE DESK WAS ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL ! WE HAD AN EARLY FLIGHT FROM PITTSBURGH TO TAMPA GATTING US TO THE HOTEL VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING She took our bags and we headed to the Busch Gardens Park ! the hotel is going thru renovations however we were not bothered at all---it is changing to HYATT PLACE !!!! these are mini suties with frig and microwave--- the nice breakfast was a treat also ! we appreciated the kindness we were shown thanks and GOOD LUCK with the HYATT CHAIN ! 1 mile from the park ! Paid $49 through Priceline for this hotel. We have stayed at many Amerisuites and were happy to find that this had been one before Hyatt took over... We checked in early, about 1pm. The staff was happy to accomodate us, which was a big plus. Our suite was clean, roomy, well appointed and newly renovated. My husband was happy about the 42" flat screen tv. Many channels were offered. The bed was very comfortable and we did not notice any dampness as others have reported. Everything was clean and we have zero complaints about the room. The hotel has free wifi and a free business center, where you can use the computers and print stuff. It was very convenient to print up mapquest directions when our GPS crapped out on us. We never took afvantage of breakfast, opting instead for a fuller breakfast at local restaurants. THere are many restaurants nearby. We brought Popeyes home one night, and had dinner at a local buffet restaurant nearby called Morrisons. Great place, filled with locals, lots of down home food, lots of choices. All for $6.99/pp. I need to mention how wonderful the staff was at this hotel...we were treated kindly and politely at all times, and the staff was especially welcoming. Lucia, in particular, deserves a special mention. She was wonderful. I accidentally left my bag of diabetic injectables in a drawer when we checked out and she called us and mailed my bag to us, free of charge. The hotel was very close to Busch Gardens, about 5 minutes. My only complaint about this hotel was the location, the neighborhood is not the best. You are relatively close to the park, yes, but it is a rather industrial area and we were once approached by a homeless person while at a local convenience store at night. There is a police station closeby, so no real worries, but I would not walk around at night if at all possible. Oh, and yes, you are next to train tracks, but we did not hear a single train pass by. All in all, we were very pleased with our stay. This is was my first time staying that the Hyatt Place Tampa/Busch Gardens and second time at a Hyatt Place. The building is set back from the main street and is next to a railroad track. I never heard a train during my stay. My room faced the pool which faces the back of the hotel. The train tracks face the front of the building. The lobby area looks similar to the one in Fremont California except for the location of the computer area. I was traveling with two co-workers and we were put on the 3rd floor next to the elevator, I had room 316. The room was not as large as the one I had at another Hyatt Place but was good size for a single traveler. The room had a door that opened outward, a single sofa and ottoman, a desk, refrigerator, coffee maker, 42” plasma TV, a comfortable king size bed, and a rather loud A/C unit. I think they may need to install a new A/C unit in the room because during the entire time I was there, the A/C was constantly running and the carpeting felt damp and room was a little humid the entire time. My co-workers also said their room’s carpeting was also a little damp feeling too. We are from southern California which is not very humid. I stayed in Tampa in June at a different hotel and do not remember the room feeling damp. The room as a whole was clean however the shower/tub bar had some sort of mold/mildew around one of the sections connected to the shower wall. The bath towels were also not consistent in quality. There was one nice and fluffy bath towel and two other bath towels that were flat and old looking. The complimentary wireless internet connection is also not very stable. Both of my co-workers and I were unable to connect to the wireless network the first night and the second night we all had to mess around with the computer to get the network to connect. The complimentary continental breakfast was just “ok”. The cantaloupe and honeydew were not very fresh tasting. However, the Starbuck’s coffee was very good. The second night I ate early and then went for a swim. The pool was very refreshing and clean. Beer and water is rather expensive in the lobby area but there is a CVS a short distance walk away were you can stock-up on drinks and snacks if wanted. Overall I would stay the Hyatt Place Tampa/Busch Gardens again. My family stayed here about two weeks ago. I have two teenagers. They were very impressed with the flat screen TV and couch area, and my husband and I loved the large King bed and the nice linens. This hotel was clean and very comfortable and roomy. The breakfast was average, the internet computers had good access. My only complaint was that the toilet was leaking so I had to keep the door to the bathroom shut all night. I value a clean hotel room.... and this room was clean and comfotable. We had a good nights rest. Have just come back from this hotel as part of our honeymoon in Florida, here are our positive points on this hotel: 1) Spacious room with large flat screen TV/kitchen area/sofa area/separate bathroom. 2) Very comfortable BIG bed! 3) All amenities/internet access on site/starbucks/free complimentary breakfast. 4) Outdoor pool area 5) Staff very polite, always welcomed us on arrival into the hotel, helpful and cheerful. 6) Great location for Busch gardens/Adventure island (water park)/shops and malls in close proximity(walmart/target etc) plenty of food chains and diners nearby. Negatives: 1) Very busy sat/sun with families (was memorial day weekend so people off work) could'nt get to the breakfast area so grabbed a banana and tea and went back to the room, very hectic! 2) Room wasn't cleaned on 2 occasions, kept getting missed! This hotel was comfotable, clean and good sized rooms, an ideal base for our 1st week in the west coast of florida to visit attractions as planned, very pleased would reccomend to all. We chose this hotel after weighing up the other reviews on TripAdvisor for hotels in and around Tampa, specifically near Busch Gardens. We made the right choice. Hotels in Tampa seem to be sigificantly more expensive than other places we stayed at in Florida, so we realised that getting a room for around $100 a night just wasn't sensible unless you want to end up in a dodgy room or location. We paid around £80 for a king-size room through expedia. The money we paid was worth it - all rooms have a partitioned off living/work area with an enormous, and I mean enormous TV! The bed was very comfortable and we slept very well there all but one night. The one night in question was an exception to the quiet-room experience. From around 9pm we heard music coming from outside, but figured it would quieten down by 10.30 or so. It didn't. At around 1am I got up to turn up the fan in the hope that it would drown out the music. It didn't. But the fan and some ear plugs did. We never did find out what caused the noise, though I suspect there must be an occasional outside music venue very close by. However, despite the noise, I don't feel that I can fault the hotel for this issue - the rest of our stay was really quiet. The hotel is pretty classy for a 3 star hotel - there was free wireless internet access which was speedy, you could plug a myriad of devices into the TV should you so choose (e.g. laptop, games console, video cameras etc) - this could be a good way of entertaining kids in the evenings if you bring along their Wii or XBox console. The pool was clean and towels were provided. The free continental breakfast was OK, though nothing to write home about. The location is great for Busch Gardens - about 5 minutes drive away. You do need to drive because the entrance to the park is the other side of the block and across some pretty busy roads. I think the hotel offers a shuttle service, but we didn't take advantage of it. There are a few chain-type restarants within walking distance of the hotel, and many more close by in the car. The rooms would be good value for a family as there is a sofa bed in each room. Stay here for relative luxury and proximity to Busch Gardens and I imagine that you won't be disappointed. You have no reason not to stay here. Hyatt Place may not look like much when you pull in from the road but once you get close you realize that is a very nice place. Extremely clean, Complimentary breakfast, 42" Flat Screen TV in room, nice & cozy. Very cool and modern looking as well. The bed wasn't the most comfortable in the world but not bad either. The shower head was a little on the weak side too but everything else was so nice that it didn't really matter or inconvenience us. We stayed at the hyatt Place Busch Gardens for 4 nights in April 08. The hotel is centrally located, 5 minutes from Busch Gardens. There is a very nice deli in front of the hotel, perfect for lunch and a CVS walkable next door. I would recommend stocking up there for drinks and snacks if you will be there a few days. There is a fridge in the room and you will save over the $3 cans of iced tea and $1.50 small bags of chips at the hotel. The room was nice, an average size hotel room with a divider, not really a suite you would think. A very nice big TV was terrific. The pool is nice sized. I think I saw a review with a small pool in it. It must have been an off week because the pool was empty a lot. The only bad thing was the room cleanup. One day they came like 5pm, one time they barely did anything and one time we had to chase them down for new towels. The other service was terrific, very friendly and informative people there. The free breakfast was great. It got crowded our last day and I can see it being jammed there. In room internet was great. The area around the hotel is ok, the nicer area is around the University there, much cleaner and friendlier restaurants than the ones on the main drag there, definitely go to those places, same restaurants but nicer. While this was a generally acceptable property for a quick visit to Busch Gardens, the following instances definitely contributed to the disappointment of what could have been an excellent first-time Hyatt Place experience: Family of four stayed two nights in a king suite (with queen sofa bed). Upon arrival we noticed that there was a used cotton swab on the floor in the hallway outside our suite. At the time of our departure two days later, the swab was still on the floor. In our efforts to support their green initiative and conserve water and energy, we requested that the bed linens not be changed while we were there. Not only were the linens not changed, but the beds were not remade in typical hotel fashion. The sheets were just pulled up over the pillows very haphazardly, and not smoothed out at all, just the way a very young child or a lazy person might make a bed. While it was obvious that housekeeping had serviced the room, the sink area had not been tidied. Toiletries were in disarray as we had left them, soap had not been replaced (we had to call and request this later), used ice bucket was not emptied, and the sink and counter had not even been wiped down. The property does have some great features -- contemporary decor, comfortable bed, 42" HD plasma tv with outlets for various electronic media, free (but very slow) wireless internet access, and good free continental breakfast. However, based on the price that we paid ($150 per night) and the Hyatt brand reputation, I would have expected more attention to detail where housekeeping was concerned. I have received much higher levels of housekeeping service at lesser-priced and what could be considered "lower-level" properties and as such, was very surprised and disappointed in this regard. We found this hotel to be a decent place to stay if you want to visit Busch Gardens. The park was 10 minutes away. USF was also nearby. While someone else mentioned the Hyatt Place Airport, the price difference ($75 a night) was not worth it. This hotel was a little more worn than the Hyatt Place Airport but not terrible. For example, the sliding mirror door for one of the room closets was missing - we wouldn't have noticed it if we hadn't stayed at the other hotel a few nights previous. The mini-suite was spacious. The sectional sofa was more comfortable than the traditional hotel room sofa. The comforter for the sleeper sofa bed was dirty however - ugh! Luckily, we did not need that bed. The big screen TV was nice but in a weird location. I disagree with a prior review - there were plenty of outlets near the desk (2 on the TV console, one under the desk, 2 on the side wall). The bathroom is one of the those no-sink kind with the sink outside - not my favorite. Plus the bathroom was painted olive drab with a very dim light. Felt like I was in a prison. The room had all the promised amenities. We used the wireless internet with no problem. There were a couple of local food spots within walking distance and some major shopping areas with chain restaurants nearby. The hotel had a continental breakfast - it was average with fruit, yogurt, toast, juice, coffee. Free apples in the lobby. The front desk was a combination desk with snack bar. Food choices were pricey - we tried a couple of sandwiches with sodas - came to $23. While the food was tasty, the service and price were not worth it. The poor desk people have to work both the reception desk and the snack bar. It would get a little hectic during busy times. The staff seemed stressed out. We did not use the pool or exercise area. We asked about purchasing Busch Garden tickets - the staff was clueless despite brochures in the lobby saying to buy your tickets there. One major down side - the hotel was near to train tracks and we heard very loud train horns a couple of times. Overall, I would recommend staying here again. The reasonable rate (about $150 a night) was better than some places in the area and the place was decent. Bring your own food in. The Best Western down the street (our other possibility) did look more worn down when we passed by. This hotel has been renovated and has a very contemporary theme throughout. It’s not a luxury hotel but it has all the amenities one would want. Either for business or leisure. Continental breakfast included daily. Free WiFi. Every room has a big flat screen TV. Although room is on the smaller side, but it’s adequate and clean. Only minutes away from downtown tampa. Good value for the price. Would stay again. My group of four traveled to Tampa for a concert and booked a room at the Hyatt Place based on location and price. As we walked into the lobby, we were struck by the stylish and contemporary decor, which had clearly been recently renovated. The layout was open, unique and user-friendly. We checked in effortlessly with very friendly staff and headed up to the room. The room, though not grandly large, was perfectly adequate for two couples. The comfortable L-shaped couch (with matching leather ottoman) opened into the only sofa sleeper I've ever used that didn't feel as though I was sleeping on train tracks. The pillows and sheets were crisp, clean and comfortable. The room had a small but thoughtfully designed and stylish divider that lends privacy between the bed and sofa sleeper. Bridging that space was a 42" flat panel HD television which offered a pleasant musical video effects montage when turned on. Near the TV was a panel into which almost any manner of electronics could be plugged into, from MP3 players to laptops. There was a small desk and leather chair, room refrigerator, safe and wet bar. The air conditioning was extremely effective. The shower had a shower curtain bar that bowed out which meant that we weren't brushing up against the shower curtain every few seconds when showering. A small but very nice touch. A full 1875 watt hair dryer and iron with ironing board were included in the room. The complemtary Portico Spa shower products offered were white ginger and were nice enough to take with us when we left. The room was very clean and the bathroom spotless. And I'm the kind of person who runs their finger along the tops of photo frames to check for dust. Though we didn't get a chance to use all the services, Hyatt offers 24-hour food service, a full continental breakfast and Starbuck's coffee. Checking out was as easy as checking in. If there's one caution, it's to shut your door slowly if you stay there. The substantial room doors swing shut with a bang that can be heard down the hall. Other than that, though, we never heard anyone else. If you're in the area, I would strongly recommend Hyatt Place for it value and cleanliness. Florida can be a spotty area for good hotels, and this is a very safe bet. I stayed at this hotel in October. I went to Tampa to go to Bush Gardens horror night. Well I deiced to stay in this hotel based on the good reviews. I rarely go to Tampa, no offence to it, but it’s just not for me. Going to Orlando almost all my life Tampa just does not compare. As far as off park scenery. Well back to the hotel. Here is a simple 123 review. 1. Location: Great location if visiting the park. 2. Service: The service was good, I had no complaints. 3. Room: Room was great. Spacious, with separated areas and a nice flat panel. Bathroom was kind of tight. But overall room was clean. If I return to the park next year, I will stay in the hotel again. Also, if you are doing the Halloween scare thing; get the VIP pass, you see everything in half the time. We stayed in this hotel three years ago when it was still Amerisuites and were very pleased with it. We just stayed again, two weeks after it switched to Hyatt Place. Again we were very pleased....excellent service, clean, spacious rooms; nice TV's in the room; great continental breakfast (although 3 years ago they had waffles, now just standard cold breakfast plus eggs and sausage). We laid out by the pool for a while. The area around the pool was nice enough, although small. But we didn't get into the pool...I'm very picky about pools and it could have been cleaner. There were other people in the pool though, so it must not have been that bad. This is a great hotel if you are wanting to be near USF or Busch Gardens. However, if you want to be closer to downtown Tampa or the beaches in Clearwater, this would be a little bit of a drive. There is also a MacAlister's Deli right in front of the hotel which we could walk to. There are lots of other restaurants in very short driving distance. The guy at the front desk said they are supposed to be adding a Starbucks, a bar, and a deli/restaurant in the hotel as it continues renovations to Hyatt Place. Stayed for 1 night while at Busch Gardens with our annual passes. This is definitely one of the better hotels in the area. Breakfast was okay and plentiful. Not gourmet, but, filling. Suites are decent and clean. Not a "resort", but, good for a night or 2 while visiting the Tampa attractions. I stayed at the Amerisuites Tampa, near USF and Busch Gardens, in mid-September. The Amerisuites is undergoing a transformation to Hyatt Place, which is a new hotel brand for upscale business travellers. Although I can't insert a web-link into this review, you can do a Google search for "Hyatt Place" and see what this new line of hotels will offer. As my stay was in mid-September, in the midst of this rennovation, please understand that the renovation is underway and will probably be in a different phase by the time you travel. The front desk staff is quick and courteous. It is worth mentioning that the hotel is near a railroad track. One night I heard the train whistle around 11 PM, and again at 11:45 PM. The other nights I did not hear it - maybe the air conditioner covered the sound, or maybe i just slept through it. Either way, if you are sensitve to noise, request a room on the opposite end of the hotel. It appears they began renovating from the top-floor down, and now they are working on floor one. My guess is that the lobby is last, followed by changing the signage outside. So - your room will by Hyatt Place, and the lobby is still Amerisuites. The hotel has handled the renovation well. I have stayed here on business twice since summer, and I have never been disturbed or inconvenienced. As you enter your room, your first thought will be JACKPOT! You have just scored an upscale, designer room at an Amerisuites price. (I have included some photos, but you need to go to the Hyatt Place web-site to see the modern room design.) I felt like I was in a millionaire's uptown bachelor pad! Of course, everything is new. There is a HUGE plasma TV on the wall. The bed is the comfiest I have experienced in 15 years of travel. However, there is a price to pay for this artistic style. I am not a "road warrior" like some of you are, but I do travel on business about 5 or 6 times a year, and my average stay is about 4 nights. I am thrilled to book Amerisuites because I can "move-in" and make it my home base for a few nights. It has the comforts of home. Many of those comforts are missing at Hyatt Place. 1) The large coffee pot is gone, replaced by an ultra-modern one cup brewer. The brewing is quick, and you soon learn to brew the 2nd cup while drinking the first, but this is a negative change. 2) The microwave is gone. I sure missed my midnight snack of leftovers from lunch or dinner! No more in-room popcorn either. I guess that's a bit low-brow for Hyatt. 3) The chest of drawers is much smaller and has moved beside the sink. Underneath the plasma TV is a cubicle bookcase - which is basically a useless item in a hotel room! Hyatt didn't seem to know what to do with the bookcase either - they placed the ice bucket and four water glasses there. Each evening I moved the ice buck and glasses to the sink, and by afternoon the maid had moved them back to the book case. Am I supposed to put my underwear on the book case, or simply enjoy the symmetrical negative spacing? Too complicated for me. 4) The bedside table is gone, replaced by a small shelf on each side. Barely enough room for wallet, keys, etc., in addition to the phone. I had to put things on the floor beside my bed, like a college student in a dorm. 5) Although the small refrigerator is still there, the cabinets are gone, replaced by a huge mirror. No place to stash the snacks and convenience food you buy at the grocery store. There is one small cabinet, that is filled with a safe. 6) The bathroom sink is arsty, but inconvenient. When set to trickle water for shaving or brushing my teeth, the water flow falls short of the sink, slowly flooding the counter. 7) The thick plush carpet has been replaced by rigid patterned carpet that reminded me of a Japanese tatami mat. 8) The plasma TV is impressive, but the only input is analog. The feature to change the display has obviously been disabled or locked. So - all TV images are the narrow 16 x 9, and there's no way to change it. Watching a baseball game, the players looked about 4-feet tall, and chubby. So - the TV is a gimmick. Maybe digital TV is coming to the hotel, but in the meantime, leave me the 27-inch Magnavox. The Hyatt Place web-site makes no mention of a breakfast bar. Instead they mention the Gallery Cafe, and the Gallery Grab-and-Go, featuring items that you can charge to your room. I already miss Amerisuites. I miss the thick, plush carpet, the couch with rounded corners, and the big bedside table. I miss microwaving my leftovers, and grabbing a granola bar from the cabinet. I miss the big bureau underneath the nice TV. I will really miss the breakfast bar - and I probably won't buy over-priced food from downstairs. There's gotta be a Waffle House around there somewhere. My advice - call the hotel directly, and inquire about the status of the renovation (when they renovate the lobby it might be messy!) Stay here while the prices are still low, and the breakfast buffet is still open. Play "hide the ice bucket" with the maid. Bring lots of books for the bookshelves, and leave the microwave popcorn at home. I recently stayed at the Amerisuites for 2 nights for a business trip. After reading the reviews I was a little leary but I was pleasantly surprised. I had the TCB suite (taking care of business)which included free high speed internet and a desk which was perfect for after hours work. As for the room, yes the carpet was a little stained but the room and the sheets were clean. Maybe I was lucky but I had no issues with my room. The staff was very friendly. Don't expect a gourmet breakfast buffet, it's very basic: danish, bagels, toast, coffee. They also had a nice, clean pool. Although it didn't pertain to my trip, the hotel is very close to Busch Gardens. There are many restaurants in the vicinity, however I would suggest you don't travel too far south of the hotel for dinner. Also, your room reservation is guaranteed until 2am, so they won't "give your room away" before then. I stayed at this hotel for one night. We booked on Hotwire.com and when we arrived (@ 11:00pm) we were given a suite. The desk clerk was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and quite large. We ate the breakfast and it was good..they had eggs and sausage along with the usuals (cereal, pastries, bagels). We went @ 8:00am and it wasn't busy but when we checked out @ 9:30 it was very busy! I am usually picky about the hotels I stay in, but this one met my expectations. Stayed here 2 nights for Busch Gardens with the kids. The hotel is very nicely decorated. Beautiful 42-in. flat-screen tv, that the kids enjoyed. The continental breakfast was decent. I agree that the muffin case in the lobby makes the entrance look like a cafe. I found the front desk staff to be very cold and unfriendly. And when I went to the park, I put the "do not disturb" sign on the door. When we returned, we saw that the housekeeper had entered the room, emptied the garbage and made up one bed, while leaving the rest of the room undone. Do not disturb became very disturbing... Overall I would consider staying here again. The check-in desk is next to some glass refrigerator cases housing muffins, snacks and drinks (overpriced) which gives the lobby area a cafe-like ambience. The rooms have been expensively renovated judging by the built-in furniture with granite tops, large screen TV and large sectional sofa. But the heating and plumbing haven't been upgraded. There was a noisy old fashioned window heating/airconditioning unit just a few feet from the bed. The sink wasn't draining properly. The halls had a stale odor and seemed to lack ventilation. We cancelled our second night's reservation. Good location. Room was clean and bed reasonably comfortable. Good location for eateries and sight seeing. Nothing fancy. Good budget room. I'd stay there again.

The positive is that it is close to Busch Gardens so I guess this is convenient for those going to Busch Gardens. I found it a little too simplistic for my tastes. The room was okay, the bathroom extremely small; reminded me of a bathroom on a cruise ship. I also don't believe that the housekeeping staff did the best job that they could do. The room was clean but there was evidence that they did not pay attention to detail, as I found little things that were quite obviously trash and left by accident, remained in place until I threw them out (like little pieces of tissue; -- insignificant but symptomatic of a larger problem?) And, we had to call for towels on the evening just before the sink backed-up, causing us to have to change rooms. The room change was handled efficiently by the staff, however. The rest of the staff was very pleasant. Based on the reviews on Trip Advisor, I had high expectations, not necessarily of a luxurious stay, but of one a little more than functional. I guess Hyatt Place is just not my cup of tea. Chose this hotel because AAA gave it 3 stars and it was close to Busch Gardens. Nice staff and good breakfast, but rooms were run down and unkempt. Checked out early and drove over to Clearwater Beach instead. Stayed at the wonderful Best Western Sea Wake Resort! We stayed there for two nights in mid December. The hotel looked great from the outside and the lobby was nice. They gave us a smoking room and we DON'T SMOKE (they never asked what we wanted). The wireless internet connection was very weak. The rooms, however, were quite spacious and liveable. Be aware of takeout menus in the room. We ordered from a place called BONELLAS...worse food I have had in years. They took about an hour to deliver. The meatballs were small and overcooked, ham was boiled and pasta smelled old. They used BACON BITS for bacon. Anyway, Amersuites is only worth it if you get a room for half price on PRICELINE!!!! My sons and I stayed in the hotel in April 2004 and chose this one due to proximity to Busch Gardens. The Good - free, hot and cold breakfast buffet The Bad - very wet smell in the room. even after requesting a room change, the 2nd room had a damp smell. Bathroom toletries looked as though they had been re-used. Very noisy in the hotel. The pool was also dirty. My sons had now nicknamed Amerisuites " Ameri-SWEATS". the family we were traveling with changed hotels after the first night. We were stuck!! Would never stay at this location again-- WESTIN Hotels have my business since that time. M.R.S. - Oak Park, Illinois We stayed during Feb vacation with two children. The suite was not as advertised, there is no divider between master bedroom and kitchen/living area. We also had overflowing toilet issues and maintenance cleaned up with our bath towels without mopping with disinfectant. The rooms and carpets were dirty and smelly before that. Breakfast was just ok, not up to their competitors. For over $125 a night I expected more - I wouldn't stay there again.
