Wingate is great once again! | Read all reviews
My 10 year old son and I had stayed at this Wingate back in July, and thought it was great, so we used it for a two night stay in order to hit the theme parks, and brought along my sister and her 1 year old. We had a standard, 2 double beds room on the first floor. Room was kept very clean, and we really love when there is both a microwave and refrigerator available - makes it easy to bring dessert and leftovers back from the local restaurants. Also, the room has a coffee maket that makes coffee 1 cup at a time using Wolfgang Puck coffee - very quick and efficient, and tasty. The deluxe breakfast never fails to amaze me - cheese omelets, do-it-youself waffles, sausage links, biscuits and gravy, bagels, toast, english muffins, doughnuts, danishes, muffins, many types of cereal, fruit, coffee, milk, and juices. Plenty of seating available also. My son enjoyed swimming in the outdoor pool, which is a nice size. They also have a very large indoor whirlpool that was great to relax in. We were also pleased with the front desk service - had no problems with our bill, and also no problems getting extra pillows, blankets, and towels. This hotel has become our first choice when visiting Tampa. We will be back!

We had a great stay here for 3 nights at the end of July. We had no trouble finding it, having driven from the airport after arriving from the UK. The staff were fantastic, very friendly and efficient. The breakfast was excellent and spoilt us for breakfasts at other hotels later on in our trip! There was a wide choice to suit most people, and we especially enjoyed the delicious strawberry compote and fresh fruits. We took advantage of the free minibus on 2 days to and from Busch Gardens - a great extra. The free internet access just off the lobby was a bonus. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel, and will definitely stay here again if (hopefully, when!) we return to Tampa. Stayed here for a couple of nights whilst visiting Busch Gardens. Excellent place to stay. arrived five hours early and asked if we could drop our cases off, but was offered rooms which were already vacated. Lovely rooms, spacious, clean and within 20mins we were on the free shuttle bus to Busch ( approx 5mins journey ). Friendly staff who were only to willing to offer advice on were to eat etc, good breakfast and good pool. Would definitely stay here again if visiting Busch Gardens/Tampa area. I went to the Wingate by Wyndham on Fowler Street on March 2008 and had a very pleasant stay. The staff is friendly and helpful, the room was clean and the bed very comfortable. The complimentary breakfast was perfect. The only little problem is the lack of restaurants nearby. Fortunately, the hotel offers a shuttle service which is very efficient. The driver will take you to a restaurant (or to Busch Gardens, for example) and bring you back to the hotel. Since I was traveling alone, I felt this was a very safe alternative. We stayed at the Wingate by Wyndham in Tampa for 4 nights in March. We choose that hotel because of it's close proximity to Busch Gardens, and were not disappointed since it is only about a mile away. The hotel has a wonderful shuttle service that will take you anywhere within a 3 mile radius of the hotel and then pick you up when you are ready to come back. We did not have a rental car and were very pleased with the service. The drivers were very friendly and helpful, as well as being prompt. There are a lot of restaurants nearby, but not many were close enough to walk to, so the shuttle worked out great for us. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. There was a large variety of items that would satisfy any appetite, whether you wanted something light or a full breakfast. The food was delicious and very convienient not to have to go out and find some place to eat. Connie, the hostess, could not have been nicer. They have a business center there with free computer access, so we were able to print out our boarding passes, the night before we checked out. Our room was very clean, comfortable and quiet. There is a coffee maker, microwave and small refridgerator in the room also. We would highly reccommend the Wingate to anyone going to Tampa, especially if you are going to Busch Gardens. You can't beat the price for what you get. Some of the cheaper hotels, closer to Busch Gardens are a must to avoid. They look run down and scary. You won't be disappointed with the Wingate!! Five minutes from Busch Gardens - and the hotel provides a free shuttle bus to get you there. In terms of family friendly budget hotels, this is a really good deal. We arrived before noon, and the friendly man at reception found us a clean room ready to go, and booked a shuttle to get us to Busch Gardens ten minutes later. Standard room with two queen beds, but extra touches, like very nice coffee, and a microwave (get your pack of microwaveable popcorn from the vending machine downstairs for a dollar) and fridge. Free paper outside the door in the morning. And the breakfast was great - cereal, bagels, waffles, yoghurt, fresh fruit.; also hot food like omelette and sausage. It rained while we were here so couldn't check out the pool, but I noticed it being cleaned twice in the space of 24 hours. We spent 2 nights here with an 8 year old and a 5 year old. The 24hr check-in was great for us as we arrived at 3am from the airport. Our room was large and clean and the breakfast good. The outdoor pool was pretty cold but the indoor hot tub was fine. The hotel made a very good base for Busch Gardens and for Canoe Escape which rents canoes for trips on the Hillsborough River (we saw 8 alligators, stacks of birds, turtles and an otter and the kids absolutely loved the adventure). The cheapest room rate we found was the Advanced Purchase Non Refundable Rate from the Wingate website. This hotel has become our first choice when visiting Tampa. We will be back! I loved this hotel!! So clean-Front desk helpful knowledgeable-staff fluent in spanish and english! Computer room-fluffy towels-excellent quality mattress! Fantastic selection for breakfast!Even had flavored creamers for coffee!!I will always stay here when in Tampa!! Great location and shuttle for Busch Gardens. my husband and I just stayed here in tampa, the wingate inn is one of the most friendly hotels we have ever stayed at, from the free water and beer at the reception, to the fantisic breakfasts which is free sausges, bacon, omlettes, make your own waffles and toast of every kind and english muffins and cereals, doughts coffee, tea, juice. its not very far from bushe gardens, every moring theres a free newspaper at the door. although the pool is small its quite , the jacuzza is great too and the gym is well equipet, it was mothers day when we where there and one of the stay gave all the mothers a lovley white rose. you can us the office suite and emails are free so is printing good for emailing home. all of the staff are trainded to high standard the hotel wa really clean and the staff all spoke to us and mead us fell at home From the start, I was made to feel most welcome. I utilized the meeting room, catering as well as stayed at the hotel for the week. The staff went out of their way to find facilities and points of interest during my stay and I will certainly stay there on business often when in the Tampa area. James Lamprecht - Raleigh NC I would normally not write a review about a Hotel unless it was a Resort as I stay in alot of common hotels all the time on business. But after reading some of the reviews about this hotel, I had to write this. I'm wondering if the other people who wrote these reviews actually stayed at this Wingate. We stayed in June 05 and the Hotel looked as it was only a couple months old. The rooms were VERY LARGE, and had 2 queen beds instead of 2 full size. It made it nice as we had 3 kids with us to tackle Busch Gardens, and had already spent a week at Universal and Islands of Adventure. Was the Wingate as great as the Hard Rock at Universal? Well of course not, but the Wingate is not $220 a night, I think we paid $80 a night and thought it was a bargain. A word of advise, when you stay close to theme parks, watch out. Most hotels on the internet look fine, but are very run down due to high traffic. This was not the case at the Wingate, it is about 1/2 mile from Busch Gardens and was in great shape. The buffet breakfast was great as well. My husband and I stayed here for three days as part of our florida holiday. The location is good near to Busch Gardens and the hotel offers good value. Nice breakfast buffet included (which is not the norm for the usa!) and free internet access which is good. The room was lovely and large and clean. Customer service was also good! Dont be put off by dated decor in reception breakfast areas as doesnt reflect the quality of the rooms or food! -Overall a good value hotel to stay in for a few days whilst in Tampa My friend and I stayed at Wingate for 2 nights mainly because its proximity to Adventure Island and Busch Gardens, the shuttle service and the reviews of being a CLEAN hotel. Check-in was a breeze and the daytime staff were great and really helpful. Our room was CLEAN and basic. The best part is the shuttle service the hotel provides. We do not drive and needed a hotel that offered this service, If we needed to return to the hotel they were a phone call away. We would call in advance and by the time we arrived at the entrance of the park the shuttle would be there. The shuttle will drive you anywhere within a 10 mile radius from the hotel. The only problem it stops at 8pm. Every morning they would offer a continental breakfast which was more than adequate. Besides the amusement parks there really isn't much to do around the area. Everything closes at 10pm and you defintely need a car to get anywhere especially after the shuttle service ends. I would definitely stay here again on a short visit. This is not a 5 star hotel. So please do not go there with this expectation. We stayed here for four nightsthe last week of October. Used the hotel service for drop off and pick up at Busch Gardens. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Rooms were like a suite. Wonderful breakfast. Having waffles, french toast, eggs and sausage was great Would definitely stay here again. We (2 adults) stayed in this motel from December 16th till December 19th. We've never been to Tampa and I picked this motel based on Tripadvisor reviews. I wasn't disappointed! What is good about this motel: - close to Busch Gardens/University Mall - free shuttle service - free business centre where you can use internet, fax etc. - indoor whirlpool and outdoor pool - hot breakfast with lots of items to choose from - avarage rooms with very good beds What is not so good about this motel: - a bit difficult to reach (you have to take a little sideroad that looks like it's one way - shuttle service only runs till 6pm - NO washclothes!? - business centre is not supposed to be for (unaccompanied) children, but often there were lots of them just playing games and they were not send away The Wingate Inn is a bit expensive for just a motel (we paid around U$ 95 per night, excluding taxes) but when you use the shuttle, the business centre and enjoy the breakfast, it is worth the money. Mind you, this motel is NOT within walking distance from either Busch Gardens or the Mall and I would not recommend walking in this area. This is a nice, reasonably priced hotel. The king room was large and bright. The hotel has a nice lobby and dining area where a pretty good breakfast is served. There is also a business center for those needing internet access. This was my first experience with Wingate, and it was a good one. We only stayed for 1 night but found it to be clean freidly and good value I don't know what other people were complaining about, but my experience with the Wingate Inn Tampa were pretty good. The rooms were clean and the staff helpful. If I were traveling back to Tampa, I would go back. An airport shuttle would have been helpful.

Was not a great experience, being that upon arrival the toilet overflowed and the staff had to come out to fix. The furniture was missing handles and the view of the parking lot/busy highway was not appealing. To top it off the A/C panel was broken and we had to listen to the A/C what sounded like a Mack truck all night, we did not get a very good nights rest. We tried to change rooms, but to no avail. The next day we were fed up and just wanted to leave. The accomidated us with another room with an pool view, which we accepted but, I felt that we should not have had to pay for the first night of hell. The hotel has signs all over that say if you are not satified with aything, there is no need to pay, boy that is totally false. Overall, I would not go there again, was not satisfied. Our room was very dirty. Bathroom shower was filthy. Mirrors looked like they used an oily rag to wipe them. Under cushions of couch there were candy wrappers and food. WINGATE INN FLOWER AVE UNIVERSITY I have been a frequent customer of Wingate hotels for years and never had any problems with any stays at your hotels until now. I have found my recent last stay was a great Disappointment. The room had a very musty smell to it, the carpet was Unsanitary my grandaughter socks where black, the shower had no water pressure house keeping walked in on us twice, the air conditioning leaked and soaked the carpet from the wall to the bed, The Continental Breakfast also had no eggs cooked for 45 Minutes, and The Elevator Fell once i notice it past inspection. Normaly i would not complain about a few thing but this is more then a few thing that should be address. i would like to continue to stay at wingates but i am undecided at this time.
