1 of 5  worst hotel experience ever!, A TripAdvisor Member, Boca Raton, Florida, April 14, 2008

AVOID THIS HOTEL IF YOU HAVE ANY SORT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SENSITIVITY OR ALLERGIES ! OR HAVE A PROBLEM CLIMBING!

Check in is at 3, we arrived at 3:30 and were given the keys to a room on the 4th floor. Upon opening the door, we were struck by a strong, fruity odor. After entering the room, the smell became more obnoxious, as if some previous guest had left a piece of fruit under the bed and it had rotted. I called down to the desk, and was put on hold for several minutes. I literally started to feel like I was choking, so I left my husband on the phone while I went out into the hall to breathe. He came out and said they would meet us on the 5th floor with keys to another room. Opened the door, same problem. Hotel employee told us that after the maids clean the room, they spray this stuff to hide any odors. I do have some sensitivity to strong odors, like Pine Sol or very strong perfumes, and I guess this fell into that category.

I asked for a room that hadn't been sprayed and we were told to wait in the lobby. Thirty minutes later, we were offered a drink, which we declined. By then I was crying, I felt terrible. I had been in a workshop all day and I was tired and wanted to rest before dinner. But sitting in the lobby unsure if we were even going to get a room was not restful. Then we were told they found a room that hadn't been cleaned yet, so if we could wait another half an hour or so, we would get a room. Finally around 6ish, we were sent up to the 10th floor and the room didn't smell. But it did have a used bar of soap in the shower.

Everyone on here comments about how comfy the beds are, and they are, once you get into them. They are very, very high - as is the bathroom sink. I'm 5'6" and I was barely able to use the sink. Anyone shorter than that, forget it. I think these rooms were designed for 6' tall businessmen.

We were told that the hotel has turn-down service with chocolates on the pillows. We did not get that service. We didn't get the newspaper in the morning either. We were, however, charged for a $6 bottle of water. On the way out we questioned the charge and were told there were 2 bottles in the room, and we must have used one. How they would know that since no one had been in the room in the 12 or so hours we occupied it, I don't know. They agreed to remove the charge though, wasn't that nice?

All in all, this was about the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The staff member we dealt with was uncaring. I really feel that a manager should have been notified after the second room was no good, and that didn't happen. I'd rather sleep in my car that stay at this hotel again.

5 of 5  Everything was 1st class, A TripAdvisor Member, Alabama, June 12, 2008

Stayed here because I am a priority club memeber, and had 1 free night at this brand to use.

My wife and I would not stay at this kind ($$$) of hotel normally, but since we only paid for 1 night, it was ok. Well, now I know why it is so costly - the room was great - 2 very large flat screens, pillowtop mattress, seperate LR, and a nice cold plate of fruit the following morning! Our showerhead was loose and only shot straight down ( not a real issue ). Told the staff at the desk and they were on it like it was a fire. I told her it was no big deal - her reply was no sir, it IS a big deal.

Nice mall across the street, and a Shulas inside the hotel - would stay again if I could.

5 of 5  Absolutely great!, A TripAdvisor Member, Atlanta, April 17, 2008

This place must be among the best hotels I have stayed in--and I have stayed in very nice places, really! I was very impressed by the attention to details, which is what counts in the end. Otherwise all four-star hotels would be the same. Check in was a breeze and people at the reception were super friendly. The room was wonderful. Relaxation music was playing in the background when I entered and I found a bathrobe on the bed, slippers on the floor, two chocolates and a pillow mist to spray on the bed for further relax! I had never seen that before. The decor was superb, everything was very clean and well appointed. The toilettries in the bathroom were of high quality and there was even a scale there. A huge flat screen tv, free wireless internet and a well-stocked minibar (careful, though, it is operated by sensors so just by moving something it will be charged to your room) are just a few of the other things I loved. That and the possibly most comfortable bed and pillows I've ever slept in. Amazing!

5 of 5  Excellent Stay!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Woodbridge, VA, March 18, 2008

We recently booked 2 rooms for 2 nights from Hotwire for a decent rate. The Intercontinental was a very beautiful hotel. The rooms were well appointed and the beds were extremely comfortable! We enjoyed breakfast one morning & the lounge both nights we were there. The food was a bit pricey (as expected), but was excellent along with the service. The location was great. We were minutes away from the airport, restaurants and main highways. You can't go wrong staying here.

5 of 5  Very happy with our stay, A TripAdvisor Member, March 11, 2008

We recently stayed at the Intercontinental in Tampa and were very happy with our stay. The hotel is very modern having recently been renovated. There is free parking in a multi-story car park next to the hotel. We had a standard king bed room which was immaculate and quiet. The room had a flat screen television and free wi fi. There were very nice toiletries in the tasteful bathroom and good quality towels. When we entered the room for the first time a relaxation cd was playing which was a nice touch. The room had a safe and tea and coffee making facilities. A bathrobe and towels were provided for guest use. Each night there is a turn down service including chocolates on your pillow. We found the staff to be helpful and polite. We enjoyed drinks and food at Shula's bar in the hotel. The hotel is well located near two nice shopping malls. The one just across the street has a cinema and several good restaurants. The hotel is close to the airport but there was no aircraft noise in the room. The hotel has a rooftop pool but it is very small and therefore the leisure facilities are limited. Although the hotel appears to cater primarily for business guests we enjoyed staying there on holiday. We enjoyed exploring the area around Tampa including the coast and seeing some Manatees. I also particularly liked visiting the Ringling Museum in Sarasota and the Henry Plant Museum in Tampa.

5 of 5  Wonderful Time at the InterContinental, A TripAdvisor Member, Holliston, MA, March 1, 2008

My family (husband, and two sons 9 and 12) spent a weekend at the InterContinental while in town for a family wedding. The location couldn't have been more convenient as it was minutes from the airport, close to the Causeway to Clearwater, and across the street from a lovely mall. The room was gorgeous, immaculate, and distinctively decorated. The beds may have been among the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The staff was gracious enough to put us on the same floor as the pool since we had children with us. The parking was free, covered, and easily accessible. There is a Shula's steak house in the building, as well as an illys coffee shop. This hotel was recently renovated, in fact there is still some renovations ongoing, but nothing that affected our stay. Note that this hotel is connected to an office building, our room overlooked an atrium shared by the offices. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this hotel for vacationing families, it's more geared toward the business person. We just happen to enjoy superior hotels, and since our main purpose for being in Tampa was a wedding and related festivities, this was a good choice for us.

5 of 5  Heaven in Tampa!!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Boston, MA, February 23, 2008

I absolutely loved this hotel!!! I stayed for only 1 night out of my 3 night stay in Tampa and I'm sad I didn't discover this awesome hotel sooner! I got a great AAA rate and was there on a Friday night. I think I got such a great rate because this hotel is located in the Westshore area of Tampa, reserved mostly for business travelers. My room was very nicely decorated in dark wood and blue fabrics and very good-sized with a huge king sized bed- (I had to hop onto it because it was so high and piled with lots of pillows), a desk and a lounge chair & ottoman. There is a huge flat screen TV on the dresser, and the dresser itself housed the honor bar as well as the coffee maker. The bathroom was nicely appointed and felt like a bathroom at home, with a nice dark wood vanity. After I checked in, I changed and went up to the rooftop pool. The weather was perfect so I spend a few hours up there lounging in the sun (this pasty Midwesterner has missed the sun this winter!). The pool itself is pretty small, but adequate, as this doesn't really seem like a hotel with a huge pool crowd. After burning myself to a nice shade of lobster red, I went back down to my room, showered and went down to the 4 computers they have in the lobby area to research area restaurants for dinner. There is a pretty good sized mall right across the street from the hotel and they have a lot of good restaurant options. When I returned after dinner, I came into my room and heard soft music playing and was utterly confused. Upon entering my room fully, I see that the shades have been drawn, my robe and slippers have been laid out for me, my bed has been turned down and there are 2 chocolates on my pillow. I was very pleasantly surprised as I didn't realize they had turn-down service! The bed was very, very comfortable and I had a great night's sleep. The next morning I went to work out at the fitness center. The hotel is in a huge office building built in a courtyard style, so the fitness room looked into the center of the courtyard. There were plenty of treadmills, a few ellipticals, some bikes and weights. The cardio machines had TV monitors built in and there are towels, bottles of water and headphones available. The hotel has a coffee shop in the lobby, as well as a full service restaurant, but I opted to walk across the street to the Panera to grab some breakfast. I packed up and got on the free shuttle to the airport (they run on the 1/2 hour) and was very sad to leave the hotel!

All in all, this is one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at in a long time. There is such attention to detail here and you can tell the main focus is to make the guest as comfortable as possible. I HIGHLY recommend the Intercontinental Hotel and will definitely be back if my travels ever take me back to Tampa.

5 of 5  Excellent experience, A TripAdvisor Member, Maryland, February 13, 2008

Stayed at the Intercontinental on business and was very impressed. The staff is friendly and efficient. Furnishings in the room were of very high quality, with thick towels and nice bed linens. The room was also spotless. On checkout, a minor issue with the bill was quickly and courteously resolved. Free parking is a real bonus, and the location of the hotel is excellent. Highly recommended.

5 of 5  Excellently renovated!, A TripAdvisor Member, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, February 8, 2008

I previously stayed at this hotel for a seminar, Oct 2006 and that following December my company booked rooms for our Christmas party here. I refused to stay and booked myself and 3 staff members at a local marriot instead. This year I was assured the hotel had been renovated and was much nicer. That was an understatement, the rooms were completely redone and there was nere a trace of the old Wyndham thank goodness. I quite enjoyed seeing the pics from another poster for the corner rooms. They were previously dreadful and now I want to go back and stay in the new ones.

5 of 5  Top of the Line, A TripAdvisor Member, jeffsuch, February 7, 2008

Very nice and pleasant stay. Great rooms with all the bells and whistles. Highly Recommended to anyone staying in Tampa.

5 of 5  Best value I got in the states., A TripAdvisor Member, Berlin, Germany, January 12, 2008

As has been said before, this is a really nice, newly renovated hotel with friendly motivated staff. The rooms are spotless and offer everything you might ask for. They got flat screens and a big variety of channels to choose from. Plus you can plug everything from ipods to notebooks into the TV. Some rooms even have a alarm clock radio where you can plug your mp3 player in – if like me you are to lazy to confront yourself with all the technology. There also is a rooftop pool and a small but well equipped gym. The hotel is conveniently close to the airport (they have a free shuttle) but you never hear a plane in the rooms. Tampa centre is only a short drive away. If you want you can even jump on the highway just a few blocks from the hotel and you are there even faster. International Plaza, also a short drive away, offers excellent shopping. You can have breakfast at Shula’s steak house right next to the lobby. The buffet breakfast (w/ free flow of coffee and orange juice) looked OK but I opted for steak and egg breakfast. The beef was EXCELLENT and is not to be missed – of course also available for dinner.

I stayed here twice and on both occasions I was upgraded to one of there junior corner suites although I had reserved the cheapest room rate (about 130$ incl taxes). These rooms have a sleeping room and a separate living room (no door in-between). The flat screen in the living area is even bigger than the one in the bedroom. The view from these rooms is also really nice.

On the first occasion I was placed in a standard room by mistake. So I can say that these rooms, too, would have been very good value for money. After a call to reception they offered me to change rooms and immediately made up for their mistake by sending a huge fruit plate and a few bottles of water up to my new room. Also at one occasion the internet in my room did not work properly and had to be fixed. But I still give this hotel the top rating for its friendly staff, the good value for money and the superb equipment of the rooms.

5 of 5  Awesome Makeover---new favorite for Tampa, A TripAdvisor Member, Gainesville, FL, November 27, 2007

They did more than add a paint job to the former Wyndham! The new InterContinental is hip without being pretentious. The rooms are fabulous. The location still feels rather business-like (many rooms look into an office courtyard!) yet could easily be mistaken for a new-hip boutique hotel. Free wireless in the room worked great for me and the Hi-Def Flat Screen TVS with HD reception and hookups for all your personal electronic gadgets is really nice touch. We stay in Tampa a lot and I can honestly say this is the new go-to hotel as it beats the socks off the Marriott, Hyatt, and Westin Harbor Island.

5 of 5  Thumbs Up to Renovation of Tampa Hotel!, A TripAdvisor Member, Savannah, GA, September 11, 2007

I'd previously stayed at this property many times as the Wyndham Westshore and was kind of sad to see it go. However, upon my last visit to Tampa - was very impressed by the extensive renovation done in its re-branding to Intercontinental Hotels. They closed the hotel for a few months and really did a major renovation to all areas. We only stayed one night, and to be sure there were signs and smells of new renovation. I guess the hotel had been reopened less than a week. Fresh paint smelled in my guest room, but the positive changes were many. A modern look and well thought out furniture made the small guest rooms very functional. A small entertainment cabinet had room for clothes, as well as a flat screen tv on top of unit. In various parts of it were a laptop sized safe, a fully stocked mini-bar, as well as ice bucket, glasses (both wine and cocktail), wine opener, etc. The bed was very comfortable, wireless internet worked flawlessly. Nice big desk work area as well as plug-in's on the lamps on desk and near bed for your laptop and/or wireless phone. The bathroom is again small, but very servicable with lots of good amenities including high end lotions/shampoo/soaps, a nice bathroom scale, salon style blow dryer - large shower/tub in my bathroom. 24 hour room service, Nightly Turndown Service, Helpful concierge, Fast Bell Staff and Efficient Front Desk Staff all impressed me. The restaurant is still Shula's Steakhouse which is a bit pricey, but excellent steaks, seafood and attentive service. Sports Bar is still near rear parking area, and Shula's No Name Bar in lobby has renovated as well - with more comfortable furniture, barstools and large flat panel HD Tv's to watch sports. Nice health club and pool are on 9th floor. Parking is free if self and good valet is available. Location makes this a great property. It's across the street from Westshore Plaza which has shopping and great restaurants. A short drive to Downtown Tampa, Raymond James Stadium and less than a mile from the bridge to St. Pete. For the price, I really like what you get at this property! Rooms run a bit higher for outside and bay views, but the cheaper interior view rooms are just as nice for less money! If you liked the Wyndham, you will love this renovation. If you didn't, you may want to give it a try - a new lobby, better service, faster elevators, and nicer accommodations await you.

4 of 5  Great hotel in a convenient loation, A TripAdvisor Member, Montreal, June 2, 2008

We just returned from the Intercontinental in Tampa and found it to be a great hotel in a very convenient location.

The hotel has a great lobby, efficient elevators, and very nicely decorated rooms. Also, the beds are very comfortable, might be a little on the high side for some.

The hotel staff was very attentive and courteous.

4 of 5  Great Location, A TripAdvisor Member, Immokalee, Florida, May 19, 2008

This hotel is in a great location, very close to the St Pete Times Forum, which is where we were going. There is a mall with an AMC theater right across the street. Only negative for us was that they couldn't put a rollaway bed in our room, so my brother had to sleep on the floor. But we are looking into staying here again in the fall since it is close to Raymond James Stadium.

4 of 5  Great Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Apopka, FL, April 29, 2008

We stayed at this hotel and loved it. The rates were reasonable for a hotel of it's class. We booked a King Bayview room and we very pleased. The room and the amenities were very nice. Our room was on the top floor (11th) and had a view of the Bay and of the outdoor heated pool which is on the 9th floor. The staff was very courteous and helpful which was nice when we needed a suggestion of a great place to eat nearby. We would definitely stay here again!

4 of 5  Great hotel - love the decor, A TripAdvisor Member, White Plains, NY, April 11, 2008

We stayed at the Intercontinental to visit my sister, who lives in Tampa. It was very conveniently located near her work, apt and many of the places we ended up visiting.

The decor in the common areas of the hotel was modern and fresh. A great first impression.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The fella at the check in desk got us checked in a few hours early - even though we didn't ask for early check-in.

The room was also nicely decorated. Also modern and fresh. A little seaside influence. There was a flat panel tv, a well-stocked mini bar (with not bad prices for a mini-bar). There was also a safe that would fit a laptop. There were a lot of surfaces and spaces - always a plus for all your things. The bed was exceptionally comfy. The bathroom was really nice. Modern and new. Marble tub/shower.

Best feature - Turn down service. Bed was turned down, with robe, chocolates and next day's weather on it , slippers at the foot. Relaxing music was playing in the ipod compatible clock radio from sharper image. The lights were turned down. I've never seen that before.

Also, b-fast in Shulas. Didn't get to go for dinner but the b-fast was wonderful!!! Buffet was really good and priced nicely. All the fresh-squeezed oj you could want. Really was spectacular. (Not the usual crappy buffet b-fast in hotel restuarants)

Not so great feature - the room window faced an atrium in an office building. We were on the 2nd floor too. Had to keep the blackout curtains closed so no one could see us!

Overall, great hotel, great value! Highly recommended!!

4 of 5  this is a great hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, April 3, 2008

I stayed here in March 2008. The hotel was nice, service was great and the room was very comfortable. This is one of the best hotels in Tampa and I would not hesitate to stay here again.

4 of 5  Chic, A TripAdvisor Member, Washington, DC, December 27, 2007

Very comfortable place to stay. Convenient and quiet with all the amenities. Staff is friendly and helpful. Parking was easy and free and the hotel is in a great location.

My only complaint about the place is that the bar is basically in the lobby, is ALWAYS crowded, and is loud. If you want a quiet bar in the hotel to sit , relax, have a drink and eat dinner, this probably isn't the hotel. Also, be forewarned... because the restaurant there is a nice and well-known steakhouse, there really isn't any such thing as a "quick bite" in the restaurant, either.

4 of 5  Posh hotel, responsive staff, change to Intercontinental was great., A TripAdvisor Member, Atlanta, Georgia, September 12, 2007

Last year, when I stayed at this hotel it was the Wyndam Westshore, and I wasn't overly impressed.

Since then they have changed names and remodelled the hotel.

The new decor and furnishings are lovely, a 300% improvement.

The rooms have large flat screen TVs and wireless internet. The wireless was a bit spotty though. It stopped working sometime around 7:30 PM, and was not yet working the next morning.

The staff was very responsive to the issues I had. My first room had a closet light fixture that was buzzing very loudly. They moved me to a new room. I enjoyed the new room for a few hours until I discovered the internet did not work there, but did if I walked down the hall. They moved me again, and sent up a bottle of wine and fruit and cheese plate to make it up to me.

The bed was quite cushy and soft.

Everything was spotlessly clean.

Hopefully they get thier wireless internet issues fixed soon, as this could be a big problem for business people who absolutely must have working internet.

A note about the previous reviews: check to see when bad reviews were written. If they were before the late summer 2007, they are reviewing the hotel before the switch to Intercontinental.

4 of 5  Great Location, A TripAdvisor Member, Raleigh, NC, September 8, 2007

This hotel was formerly know as the Wyndham Hotel. The property was recently reopened on 8/25/07. The location of the hotel is perfect for newcomers to the Tampa, Fl area. Approximately 15 minutes from Tampa International Airport.

There is a mall across the street from the hotel where you may find several alternative eating choices. (P.F. Chang's, Maggiano's to name a few) There are Bank of America and Wachovia branch locations in walking distance as well as Walgreens, Panera Bread and a Starbucks.

The hotel has recently been renovated and they are finishing up some of the final touches. The staff here is very courteous and attentive to guests. There is a Shula's Steakhouse located in the lobby, a lounge and coffee show. The business center is very convienent. Five or six computers with internet access, laser printers and full size copy machine. There is also wireless access in the hotel rooms.

The rooms are great. 42 inch flat screens, Plush king-size bed(very comfortable) cordless phone and regular desk phone, wet bar, safe which can fit laptops, desk, lounging chair, makeup table and mirror. Fullsize bathroom. Fitness Center on the 11th floor has a good selection of cardio equipment.

This hotel shares its space with an office complex. This is a Clas "A" commercial property. Hotel share an atrium with the other building/complex tenants. This property was recommended to me by a company my company works with which mad it easier to get to their office on ti,me istead of having to drive. The atrium was under construction while I was there but, it will be very nice when completed. The only problem with this was at times you could hear electric saws or drills while the workers worked at night.

2 of 5  Weird Place, A TripAdvisor Member, boston, ma, August 20, 2008

Strange Place, not very Florida like or resort like. Very urban. Everything is for design purposes only..nothing for the comfort of the client. Bed is very high, coffee maker requires a PHD to figure out.

Felt very uncomfortable there. Got on priceline for $60.00

2 of 5  Not what I expected, A TripAdvisor Member, Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY, June 29, 2008

The Intercontinental appears to be an older 1980s hotel that was recently renovated. It is not a free standing hotel, but occupies part of an office building.

There are rooms that do not have windows to the outside and only face the shopping mall atrium. My particular room faced offices, thus necessitating me keeping my shades closed the whole time. This was disappointing.

Rooms are ridiculously small, perhaps about 250 square feet or less. I'd say the rooms are smaller than most hotels even in NYC. Mechanicals at the property are in dire need of major repair. The tub drains very slowly for instance, and the closed 1980s HVAC system just isn't effective and leaves the air stale.

The pool area is a joke. It is basically part of the parking garage, surrounded by concrete with almost no decoration besides the pool furniture. There were 6 reclining chairs and the pool itself is perhaps 30x20 feet. It is smaller than many pools in the backyard of people's homes.

Lastly, the location of many other hotels in Tampa is greatly superior. This hotel has one asset: it is near the airport and the unusual number of strip clubs in the area. After having checked out the area, I would have preferred staying at one of the convention hotels near the Channelside area. There, you have water views, presumably larger pools, and are closer to the action in town.

But, that wasn't why I was in Tampa. I was there to work, and the hotel room worked ok for that. While small, the furniture is of a high quality. The bed is comfortable, the desk chair is perfect, and the desk itself is useful for laptop road warriors. The internet access was fast and free. Service was excellent with every request met quickly. Housekeeping did their job well. It is entirely possible that good service and clean rooms are hard to find in Tampa. If that is the case, maybe this hotel is a good choice.

Ultimately however, I would have preferred a more spacious room, better AC, better access to the Tampa area nightlife, and a nicer pool area.

I would probably not stay at this hotel again, and I do believe it tarnishes the Intercontinental brand.

2 of 5  Our experience was not 4-star worthy!, A TripAdvisor Member, Gainesville, FL, April 27, 2008

Fortunately we got the hotel room off priceline so we did not pay full price for the hotel. While the bathroom was nice, the lobby well decorated, parking was easy and free, and there was free wireless, we ultimately did not enjoy our stay very much.

- We were on the second floor and could hear every single person who walked past the hotel room. Not only could we hear everyone walk by throughout the day, but were awoken throughout the night by people coming back to their rooms after a night out. We should not have to listen to everyone's conversations walking by.

- Although it was a Sunday morning, and we were checking out that day, housekeeping felt the need to come around 9am... they then preceded to come two more times before we finally checked out before noon. If you do choose to stay here, do not assume you will be able to sleep in past 9 without being being bothered - make sure to hang your do not disturb sign.

- The hotel pool is extremely small and we were unable to find a single seat available to swim. We decided we would leave our clothes on the side and go swimming to find that the towels had not been replenished, and thus swimming did not happen.

- We actually found the bed to be extremely uncomfortable. While it was big and decorated well, the pillows and bed were not our taste. Others might love it though.

We enjoyed being able to walk over to Westshore and it was convenient to the highways, but we definitely could not believe the hotel was a 4 star hotel.

2 of 5  Not Great but Not Terrible, A TripAdvisor Member, MA, February 28, 2008

My wife and I stayed here from Wed. Feb 20th - Sunday February 24th. I had business in Tampa on Th. the 21st so I brought my wife with me so that we could spend the weekend in Tampa Bay. I lived in Tampa in the mid 90's so I am familiar with the area and knowing the location of this recently renovated hotel I figured it would be best for my business and keep us centrally located, close to beaches, nightlife and airport.

In a sentence this hotel is strictly a business hotel and the renovations are not 100% completed. We stayed on the 4th floor and our room was right next to the elevators. Overall the room was clean but noisy being next to the elevators. We asked to be moved to a room not so close and they put us in a room in a corner with a smaller bed and less room so back we went to the first room we were in and put up with the noise for the weekend. Not terrible but for the price I would expect a little bit more. They were relatively friendly about the whole ordeal but they could have been more accomodating as I know the hotel was not sold out.

Positives of hotel:

1. Free wireless

2. Relatively clean

3. Free self parking (valet will cost you)

4. Great location for business travelers (close to airport and downtown, as well as good restaurants)

Negatives of hotel:

1. Maid service was not great. Missed are room one day and we had to call down to complain. Sloppy job in making up our room all other times.

2. There is nothing going on in the hotel except for a few people at Shula's bar.

3. Shula's steakhouse was a great disappointment in my mind. I did not like the food and felt the service was not up to par.

4. The lobby and inside of the hotel for that matter is not very enticing. Very blah and boring.

Bottom line in my opinion: You can do better in Tampa put this hotel down on your list but ok place to stay if you can't find anything else downtown.

Things not to miss if your in the area:

- Ft. DeSoto Park (beautiful beach)

- Cleawater Beach (touristy but nice walking beach)

- Old Hyde Park Village (shopping - chain stores)

- The University of Tampa (great campus)

- Bayshore Blvd. for a walk or jog

- Ybor City (if you like nightlife, occasional trouble in that area)

- Spring Training (Yankees, Phillies, Rays, BlueJays etc.)
