Excellent for the price. Convenient for walking to shops, restaurants, public transportation, beaches. We did not rent a car as it was not needed for staying in this location. Clean and comfortable with a beautiful view of the ocean from our lanai. Complete kitchenette, nice swimming pool and spa, direct access to beach. We would stay there again. We went there on our honeymoon in August 2008, and will definitely be back next time we visit Maui. We island hopped for a few days, a few other hotels (Westin, Sheraton..), and this unit blows them away. The whole resort is very nice and located on the edge of the strip in Lahaina - far enough to be quiet but just a short stroll to all the shops and restaurants. Kaanapali is just a short drive north, resorts and tall buildings, but you can retreat to 1500 sq ft in this penthouse. If you want spa/massage and all the fluff then a megaresort may be for you, but if you want your own amazing condo check this one out. www.vrbo.com/103392 The Penthouse #706 won't disappoint. I have to admit, my wife was a little leary going from internet reviews and direct rental off the owner, but she now knows it was better than even higher priced hotels and the transaction went seamless. Congrats to the owner for a well run unit. I stayed at Penthouse 706 at Lahaina Shores Beach Resort during my stay in Maui. This Penthouse is one of the mosy beautiful suites I have ever stayed in. It is on the top floor with an excellent view. It is located next door to restaurants, bars, and stores. The decor is amazing of the penthouse is amazing. It is an upscale, modern decor with a full kitchen and a huge balcony. Expected to feel pampered here. See pictures and book a reservation at www.vrbo.com/103392. It is Penthouse 706. You will not be disappointed! Tom Meyers has a terrific place at this very nice resort. My wife is very particular about where we stay and it exceeded her expectations. It's beautifully furnished and well maintained. Tom's unit is Penthouse 706. Beautiful views ! We were there in May of 2008 and would definitely return. Tom's website is: www.vrbo.com/103392 We spent 12 nights at Lahaina Shores Beach Resort and loved every minute of it! It is not fancy, but it is very comfortable, clean, friendly and convenient to restaurants, shopping and the boat docks. From reading other reviews I learned to ask for a room on a high floor, ocean side. Do not try to save money with a mtn. view or you will be disappointed! We were on the 6th floor with a spectacular view of the sunsets over the neighbor island, boats, surfers, etc. and had an added bonus of being able to hear the luau next door. No, the beach is not great, but great beaches are just 10 min. away. The pool and hot tub were fine. The morning welcome breakfast is not much of a breakfast, but we received lots of helpful info on things to do and did not feel pressured to make a decision right then as we were when we went to the Pleasant Holiday's breakfast. Expedia's prices were also better! We did a lot of things during our time on Maui: played golf, took a van trip to Hana & helicoptered back, snorkeled, drove up to Haleakala, even flew over to the big island to see the volcano but the one thing we enjoyed the most was being able to walk downtown. Parking in Lahaina is limited so it was great not having that hassle! The old town atmosphere of Lahaina is another plus! We were not interested in staying in the big resorts further north with their higher prices, more people and traffic. If we get back to Maui we would do everything the same with the exception of going to the Royal Lahaina luau. There are better ones available and if I had paid attention to the guidebook I bought I would have gone to one of those. I spent a lot of time reading about Maui before we left and would recommend everyone do that. Once you get there you want to get on with your vacation and having a plan makes it more relaxing. Hope we can go back again soon! We stayed at the Lahaina Shores for a few nights last week and loved it! The hotel was clean, quiet, staff was very helpful and friendly, and it is a short walk into town. The room was big and I highly recommend the ocean view rooms - the view is beautiful! You have to pay extra for parking, but that is standard in Hawaii and $7 is pretty cheap compared to many other places. I've stayed on Maui before and this is all around the best place I've stayed. It has a full kitchen, which was great because we could throw beer and water in the fridge (we didn't stay long enough to make food, but you can easily eat meals at the hotel). We didn't use the pool or jacuzzi but they looked very nice and clean. And the hotel is on the beach, which is hard to find in Hawaii. We are a young couple on vacation and I think this hotel is perfect for similar parties, but I also think it would be good for families or people who don't want to deal with driving out to dinner every night. Really good location in the lovely little beach side town on Maui. Extremely quiet and within a walk of everything in town. Great way to save some money on going out during your Hawaiian vacation, as each room has a kitchen with has everything you would need to cook or prepare anything! We made breakfast most mornings, snacks and fruit smoothies on hand, as well as cold pop, juice and beer. We even made pizza one night with fresh Maui pineapple! The room was clean, except the rug in spots but it was pretty minor. Linens were fresh, pillows were excellent! The pool/hot tub and lobby were clean! Staff was pleasant and helpful. Right on the beach. N.B. Parking was extra. If you want to use the hospitality option (a room for an hour to shower before a late flight, after morning check out) let them know upon check out. Spent 4 days, Aug. 24-28 here. Loved it. Quiet and serene. Enjoyed the view from Ocean View lanai. Room was good with nice kitchen and bath. Loved the pool and hot tub, but not good beach. Actually went to another area to swim in ocean as the water here was dirty and could not see bottom. I don't swim where I can't see bottom. I would not stay here again for that reason, but other than that it was good and we spent so much time doing other things, that the beach didn't matter that much. Next time I go to Maui, however, I will stay at a resort that has a better beach for swimming. We have nothing but good things to say about this facility. We went to Maui for the first time to get married, and while we had heard great things about this hotel, it exceeded our expectations. We stayed in an oceanfront view on the 6th floor, and the view was breathtaking. Because the beach in front is fairly small, it's not that busy, so it's very peaceful to sit on the balcony and stare out at the ships, listen to the ocean. Everytime we drove back to Lahaina from touring the island, we felt so glad we were "home" because it was so quiet and relaxing there. We found everything was always clean, and we loved the staff, especially Carmen at the front desk. The concierge helped us with anything we needed as well. The pool area was lovely too - you could sit on a lounger under the plumeria trees in the grass, go for a quick swim or walk on the beach and then head for a dip in the pool. A few other bonuses: You get parking right in front of the hotel (probably a 10 second walk from the lobby compared to those big resorts in Kaanapali etc.), and as has been said in numerous reviews, the most fantastic thing is the location - you can walk up and down Front Street and shop or eat without having to take the car out. We had a beautiful wedding in Maui, and the Lahaina Shores helped us to have a beautiful honeymoon too. We will be back...! Another great stay at the Lahaina Shores. Albeit 33 years after our first. We booked our room through the hotel website. Look at all the specials and regular offerings. We found it was cheaper to book the regular ocean view rather than any of the specials. This property is undergoing room restoration. So when you book ask for one of the upgraded rooms. As stated before some parking is in the garage next door but easy access and there is parking in the front lot of the hotel. Their are shops and resturants next door and you are within an easy walk to the larger downtown area. If you have to wait to book extra outings, the first morning you are on site is hosted by an Expedia group that can make reservations for just about anything you want to do on Maui. A great week. Sad to have to leave. Charles Adams The room that we stayed in was very nice: spacious, very nice decor, very clean, the bed is comfortable, fresh sheets and complete with everything you need: stove, sink, big refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, etc. The staff is very friendly and efficient. The location is minutes away from shopping, grocery, and restaurants and situated along the beach shore (though water was not good to swim during our stay). I highly recommend this place for the quality and price. We first stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon in 2005, and fell in love with this hotel. We stayed at the hotel again in February 2008, and fell in love with it all over again. The location of this hotel is just outstanding. It is located in Lahaina, and just down the street from the main town. It is also located oceanfront, with fantastic views of the ocean or the mountains, depending on which side of the hotel your room is on. I recommend requesting a room on the third floor or higher, for the great views. The rooms are either one-bedrooms or studios, with kitchenettes. It's a great way to save a little money, by having coffee in the morning in the room, and buying food at a store nearby, and having meals in the hotel room, overlooking the ocean or the mountains. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful, for the most part. We did have contact with one staff member who wasn't so friendly, but her co-workers made up for her with their help and enthusiasm. Bottom line - the location is fantastic, with nearby shopping, the beach, and snorkeling. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the kitchenettes are great to have on vacation. We will always stay here when we visit Maui. First and Foremost... We have visited Maui before and stayed at Lahaina Shores Beach Resort. We LOVED the PERFECT Front Street location in Lahaina town, however our room wasn't outstanding. It wasn't terrible by any means, just hadn't been updated since (what looked like) the 70's. At the time, that wasn't a big deal, but for our honeymoon, we wanted something more. After some research, I found a unit at this resort privately rented out through the owner and a company the owner uses to manage their property called "Chase 'N Rainbows". The unit we rented out THIS time was unit #501. You could look at their website: http://www.lahainasunsets.com/ to see their pics and info, and even though the site I saw above took my breath away, pictures could not do justice to what I witnessed when I opened the door for the first time... not to sound cheesy, but I literally got teary-eyed. It was amazing! The VIEW from ANY area in the condo was breathtaking. The lanai stretched from the corner of the bedroom alongside the entire wall to the end of the corner of the living area wall. There was a seperate mountain/oceanview lanai alongside the kitchen/eating area. If you opened the sliding glass doors, turned on the fan and closed the screen door, you could hear waves crashing and feel the most amazing ocean breeze. A perfect view of Lana'i was directly facing you. The bathroom was even great and had the cutest shower area (you can see the photo...won't waste time with bathroom reviews:)..) The kitchen was fully stocked with anything (besides groceries.. we stopped at Down to Earth in Kahalui immediately after picking up our rental car for FABULOUS "health" food and delicious local produce) we needed to cook with... pots, pans, dishes, paper towels, fridge, freezer, blender, microwave, stove top..... There was also a TV (like you need that on Maui) and sitting area with a filled bookshelf and desk with IA ($9 /day or $40 per week, i think) As for the bedroom itself, besides the indescribable view, I am not a good person to rate the comfort of a bed- it was better than most, but my husband is the manager of a mattress store and home is ALWAYS better than away... there was a desk, chair and LOTS of storage space. Besides our gorgeous home-away-from-home's room itself, the location of Lahaina Shores it more than perfect (unless you like the "convienience" of a resort complex). It is next door to the 505 Front Street Shops that houses 2 of the best restaurants on Maui- I'o and Pacific'o. Also a well-known luau "Feast at Lele" several art galleries, a Whaler's General Store (that got alot of our business during our stay) and several smaller cafes and restaurants that we didn't have a chance to try. The other shops and restaurants along Front Street are a pleasant stroll away. We didn't venture out to other areas for dinner simply because Front Street Lahaina had so much to offer and we didn' teven have to get into our car. You name it, we ate there.... (I will review those seperately) There are so many shops to check out which became a nightly activity- strolling Front Street as well as making a stop at "Scoops" an ice cream shop at the "end" of Front Street that serves Lapperts ice cream- The Lahaina Harbor is also very close to Lahaina Shores Beach Resort. This is where many of the tours depart from. If you have any questions, I don't mind to answer them.. we LOVED our 12 day stay in paradise and WHEN (not if) we return, we will again stay in room 501!!! Resort lobby is beautiful, the perfect ocean view we had. Whales were right in front of our room 4 days of the 7 days. Room was nice but needs a little touch up, the maids were clean and paid attention to detail. Front desk staff friendly and helpful but I could not understand the middle age women who could not speak english very good. Other than that this resort feels like a home in the islands. We stayed there in Feb for our 40th anniversary and it was excellent. We were suppose to arrive at 330 pm but due to weather on the flights didnt get there til 11 pm We are SMOKERS ya I know. We had requested a smoking room but did not get one and I told the desk clerk that and he said let me work on it overnight and the next day we had a SMOKING room. Its right in the middle of everything and we walked as parking is a premium in Lahaina. Read several reviews before me and we parked at the 505 (those of u that been there will knw what im talking about) and it was 29 bucks for 6 days hey get over it!! And one said noise we have stayed in Waikiki 4 times and u want noise go over there!! Rooms were nice maids very friendly and will do anything for you (almost) haha Beach is a stones throw away Cant say more trying to book it for 2009 right now but they only go out 330 days so will have to wait til next month. Had a great time at this clean well-managed resort. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. This condo provides all the amenities needed! I had wanted an ocean view when I started my search, but found the mountain views WONDERFUL. The 2 block walk to Lahaina made the location so nice for our trip. The condo was well furnished, clean and spacious - made this trip wonderful. This was the third time we have stayed at Lahaina Shores. My husband and I love Maui, we also love the resort. The mountain view was breathtaking the first time we were there in Jan. 2000, but after that, we have always gotten the ocean view. It costs more but it is more than worth the extra money. We are on our way back in March '08' for our 35th wedding anniversary. We wanted to celebrate in our favorite place. The staff is friendly, the rooms are clean, and you have everything you need in the room. The lanai is one of my favorite parts of the whole stay. We get up in the morning and have our coffee on the lanai. It is a perfect way to start your day. I cant wait to come back!! Tom Myer's penthouse unit on the edge of Lahaina Town provides an excellent location within walking distance of everything in downtown Lahaina. We enjoyed the beach access and the pool area has a lot of room for lounging. Tom has done a great job of providing everything you need during a week's stay in Maui. The unit is in superb condition and we found it to be comfortable, accomodating, and up-to-date. The mountain view is excellent from the large lanai or from the unit's large living area / kitchen. The hotel staff was very helpful during our stay. Use of the parking facility provided with the unit was easy and convenient. We would definitely stay there again on our next trip. We loved the condo 706, it fit our needs for a family get away. The furniture was confortable. Loved the bed. The bonus was the laundry room. This made thing nice when traveling with an infanct. Tom was very helpful with making our reservations. Grounds include pool, jacuzzi, BBQ’s. Excellent shopping is available at nearby 505 Front Street Shopping Center, which offers award-winning restaurants, shops, and exciting nightlife. We would stay here again. John and Shona Bernal My daughters and I checked in to Penthouse 706 and walked in to the most beautiful, spacious place we have ever stayed on Maui. Everything in the condo was perfect. The furniture was beautiful and comfortable. The bedroom was gorgeous and there was more than ample closet/storage space for a full family. The bathrooms were well designed and we loved that there was a laundry room right in the condo. The state of the art kitchen was a delight to cook in. I had my morning Kona coffee every morning out on the lanai and watched the sun come up over the mountains. We walked into Lahaina every day. While we had a car we didn't really need it as we were so close to everything we wanted to see and do in Lahaina. The owner Tom Myers was wonderful to deal with and I booked our stay directly through him. He was easy to contact and more than willing to correct anything that might have gone wrong with our trip. although nothing went wrong. I have stayed on Maui 5 times now and this has been my favorite place to stay. I can't wait until we can return and enjoy the Penthouse again. Our ten day stay wasn't long enough! Jim is the owner of the mountain side unit which is on the six floor middle of the building, and I booked through him via the net. The unit is basic, and I guess could use a slight updating (According to my wife) but it is very very clean. This updating thing was not a factor to me since I was not in Maui to spend time in my Hotel except to sleep and have a breakfast. Jim was great to rent from he extended us a little bit since our plane was late plus the price is very competitive. Lahaina Shores is a great place to stay, it is located near everything you would want, the beach outside is not really a swimming beach, but it does have great surfing near by, along with super safe snorkeling. The town of Lahaina is about a 10 mins walk and has numerous markets ( Food land/Safeway) and all levels of retail stores and eating places to pick up whatever you need. (Look for the happy hour at the moose 3-6p everyday) All the super Maui beaches are within 10-40 mins by car. And if you don't like the first one you go to another close by. There are many more near by all with different characteristic to them. Jim save that room for us we shall be back for trip number five to this great location. Pick up a copy of Maui Revealed it is the must have guide book for Maui, and you will see all the people in the know carrying the blue book PS see my note about rental see in Maui. Aloha (Waves clam snorkeling boggy boarding ECT...) Kam 1/ 2/ 3 in Kehia where my favorites. The view from our balcony was breathtaking. Every evening, we made a point of opening a bottle of wine and being right there to watch the sunset. I cannot adequately describe the calm of that moment. I never grew tired of it. As for the accomodations, location location location. Easy walking distance into town is very valuable to me. There are so many cars on Maui, it was great just to walk out to dinner, or to the pier, or to a bar. As for the room itself, we rented online thru [--] and it was a studio. It was great. We were there for 11 days. Our first time together in Hawaii, and, though we weren't sure about being there that long at first, we both sat in the airport on the way home wishing we could stay. We're going back next month and staying in the same room for four weeks! Stay tuned ;) We stayed here for six nights at Thanksgiving in Suite 520. It was delightful! Yes, the rooms are older, but are nicely equipped. We rented through the owner, which was more cost efficient. We were on the mountain side, but the view was still superb! Lahaina Shores is within walking distance of a multitude of shopping, sight seeing, surf watching, bars, dining, snorkel rental - you name it. We rented a car to explore different parts of the island, but each night retreated to Lahaina Shores and explored downtown Lahaina by foot. Definitely recommend for a couple that is looking for nightlife within walking distance of a quaint, romantic resort. AAA booked our rooms for us, and we did some moving around on the islands, so we didn't stay in many places for more than one night. We were only at Lahaina Shores for one night, but if we were going to stay in that area for more than one night, this would be the place to stay. The beach is right outside, so we could sit out on our lanai and enjoy the view. It was gorgeous! The beach in this area is not swimmable, but it's great for a beach stroll, sunsets, or just sitting on the lanai and hearing the waves. Lanais are a good size and have post railings, so you don't have to crane your neck to see above a concrete wall if you are seated. The kitchen area is fully outfitted, making it a great place for a longer stay. There is a full-sized fridge for anyone who wants to get groceries and save some money by eating in for some meals. There is a pool & a hot tub. We were planning to drive the road to Hana, and we were told at the desk that we could borrow a DVD of the drive if we wanted to learn more about what is on the route. We had a tour book, so this was not necessary, but it's wonderful that they have such things available and take the time to find out if they can help with the rest of your trip in some way. The resort is within walking distance of the town, which is a nice feature, as parking in Lahaina is difficult. Stayed 2 nights at the Lahaina Shores in October 2008. Following a not-so-happy experience at the Lahaina Shores in 2007, we deciided to give it another shot, but only stayed 2 nights in case we encountered similar issues from the previous stay. I am so glad to say that the Lahaina Shores was far better this year than last. We requested an oceanfront, high floor with a king size bed, and got all of our requests. The view from our lanai was nothing short of spectacular. The room was clean and comfortable, although nothing fancy. The studios are not large, so don't expect a lot of space. Enough room for 2. The shower/toilet area is small, but the sink/dressing area helps that out. The lobby is very inviting, and the pool area is attractive, although not very big. Skipped the welcome breakfast in favor of spending more time in Lahaina town. This place is great if you are planning on taking ocean excursions that depart from Lahaina Harbor--the harbor is withing walking distance, and you are all ready parked and therefore do not need to worry about finding a spot in Lahaina Town that has a 3 hour limit, or parking in a pay lot for $15. There is a luau next door--no need to drive anywhere for any other. Their parking charge is $7/nt, and worth it if planning on spending time in Lahaina. Make sure you request the room type you want! Three of us stayed at this property on October 18,19,20,2008. Price per night was $337 including taxes, etc. We stayed in Penthouse PR101 which looked out over the bay/ocean. This was a one bedroom two bathroom condo with kitchen, washer dryer, one LCD TV in the living room and standard TV in the bedroom. Good AC. There was a fold out sofa bed for the third person. This property is old, but well maintained and is clean. No bar or restaurant on the property. The view from the penthouse balcony was outstanding. Parking was $22 for the three nights, but parking is easy access in front of the property. Very small beach and no swimming, but great surfing. This property sits on the beach on the south end of Lihaina (on the west side of the island)a small town with mosty locals and a very nice harbor with shops, etc. There are no super sized resorts in this community which made for a nice slow paced stay. We walked to the harbor using the beach or the sidewalks. Lots of good places to eat in town. It is a 40 minute drive to the airport. We booked direct using www.classicresorts.com site.Great staff. Very good place to stay for the price. We have stayed at Lahaina Shores twice now. We were on a budget, and this place is a great value. It's in a very good location on the water near Lahaina Town, within walking distance to most shops and restaurants. There is a small beach, but I haven't tried swimming there. The property also has a small pool and a nice lawn area overlooking the ocean. We stayed in mountain view studios both times we were there. The rooms have your basic island-style furnishings, a basic little kitchen and a standard bathroom. These particular units have not been remodeled, but some others on the property may have been if their owners chose to do so. Still, they were clean and comfy! We tend not to hang out inside much when we're visiting Maui, so this place was perfect for us. A beautiful view, a bargain value at $160 per night (parking is an extra $7 per night now), and a convenient location. My husband and I stayed at the Lahaina Shores through a condo unit rental (#321) and we couldn't have been more pleased. You are literally 20 ft. from the ocean and a three minute walk from the center of Lahaina. If you are the type of traveler that prefers resorts and spends most of the day by the pool or at the spa, this property is probably not for you. But if you enjoy being in the center of activity and spend most of your day out and about, this is a perfect spot (particularly for the price). The sunsets were breathtaking! Unit #321 had been recently renovated and had everything we needed for a three night stay. The hotel staff was friendly and the resort, though older, was well maintained. As for Lahaina - we enjoyed spending a few nights, but by the third day we were ready to head to another part of Maui. It's basically a manufactured surf town - cute, but a little stale for us. We headed down to Wailea for two nights and were happy we changed it up. This property is well-sited on Front Street. Shops and restaurants are a brief walk away. The room's decor is not trendy, but the place is clean and safe. Staff are friendly and the beach/pool area are nice. The internet connection is slow - you'd be better off to use the wired cafe up the street. Renovations are going on in the building above the parking garage, so it is a bit messy but I always felt safe traveling alone. The resort offers a hospitality suite- which you must book in advance- to tidy up in before you fly home. Warning- food in Maui is not cheap- you may not save by doing your own cooking. Just returned from our stay in Maui. We stayed our first two nights in room 337 in Lahaina Shores. This was a studio accomodations with a queen size bed. We had an ocean view that was amazing. The room was adequate for our needs as a couple. Could use a bit of updating but nothing really to complain about room wise. Bed was comfortable and firm. There is a luau right next door so you will hear the drumming until about 9 pm if you stay on the east corner like we did. We did not try the pool and jacuzzi area but it was clean. We liked the convenience of being able to walk to Front Street where all the shops and restaurants are in Lahaina from our hotel. This is a major plus of this hotel. Would recommend this place, although you could probably get a vacation rental for less money per night that would be in Lahaina as well. But this has the convenience of a hotel, even though these are owner condos. Stayed in Unit 433. Great views and very clean, well kept room. Close to shops/restaurants on Front St, yet quiet and secluded as well. Only negative is that the beachfront is not very functional (very limited beach area with sandy/murky water) . However, for those wishing to enjoy the surf, I would still recommend this resort as it's just a short drive away from other wonderful beaches. We were there on our Honeymoon and we loved the Hotel. The staff was also nice and the ocean view from the room spectacular. The room was clean and big (it was a studio), it had a good space with closet and a good size bed. The best part of staying at this Hotel is the location; we walked everyday to the restaurants and stores. We also found this Hotel very safe and we would recommend it to all my friends and relatives. We will definitely go back to Lahaina Shores My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon, and this place was so peacful that sometimes it seemed like we were the only 2 people there, Everyone was so friendly, they even wanted to take our groceries to our room for us. We booked through our local travel agent and got an excellent deal and was affordable enough to stay 11 days and had rental car, and roundtrip airfare. We went on one of the snorkeling cruises and that was an experience of a life time. I would suggest for anyone to do it. Then we got to see lots and lots of dolphins and sea turtles. It was just wonderful. We had a mountain view room which was fine with me being in Maui and all who could complain of their mountain view with the rainbows all the time. It is great!!!!!!!! We stayed 5 nights at this hotel. We had a corner room 537 on the ocean side. Although we did not spend a lot of time in the room, it was well worth the view. The Lele Luau is held each night right next door and we were able to see it and hear it from both balconys off our room which was nice. The room and decor was very basic. It was nice to have kitchenette to keep drinks cool and snacks. The staff was very tenative and it is keep very clean. It's great that food/shops are in walking distance. I high recommend the restuarants Pacifico and IO right next door. My husband and I stayed at Lahaina Shores for a week. We booked through VRBO and got a great deal, especially for Maui. We stayed 4 days in a room with a mountain view. The room wasn't fancy, but had everything we needed for our stay. After a night in Hana, we returned to Lahaina Shores and stayed in a room with an ocean view. It was nice to wake up with a view of the ocean and pool every morning. It was great having a gate from the garden to the beach. When we tired of the beach, the pool and hottub were there to enjoy. In addition, everyone working there was very friendly and made us feel right at home. MK at the expedia desk helped us out tremendously in booking our activities. She knows everything happening on the island and we are greatful for her help. Lahaina shores was the perfect place for us, right in the middle of town with shops and restaurants a stones throw away. We are already planning a return trip and would definitely stay at Lahaina shores again. We stayed only 4 days at the Lahaina Shores in a Penthouse on the 4th floor. It was beautiful. Everything was recently renovated and tastefully decorated. It is owned separately from the Hotel so you can only book these rooms from the owner directly through the VRBO or Craiglist. It was beyond our expectations as it was so spacious and clean. The Mountain views were lovely but I still would prefer an ocean view as there was some noise from a local rooster that wouldn't stop all night. I thought they woke up at sunrise but oh no.... not this one. I have a small complaint and one worth knowing...Because these units are independantly owned, the hotel will do nothing for you. If you want a change of linens or need a cot, like we did, you need to pay a company to come and provide these things. I needed extra blankets as it got cooler at night and I had to use towels and put extra clothes on my two kids. Also my kids decided they didn't want to sleep with each other so I needed a cot. I had to use a lounge chair instead. Needless to say the sleeping situation was not fun. The hotel has a neighborhood feel. The guests are mostly return guests who come every year. It's a very warm, cozy hotel and I have to say, we quite enjoyed ithe ambiance. Everyone was friendly. It's also a walk to Lahaina which is great for evening walks. Next door is a fun little restaurant bar that has live music each afternoon. The best and most expensive Luau is also next door that you can actually listen and watch from the hotel beach if you want. We would love to return for a longer stay next time and maybe try an ocean view. I stayed here for 4 nights in January and loved it. Coming from the noise and bustle of Waikiki, this hotel was an oasis of calm. If you love big soulless resorts with lots of activities and facilities then this isn't the hotel for you. It's got old fashioned charm and is relatively small. It's only a few minutes walk from the centre of Lahaina with loads of restaurants to choose from and has the beach right outside. The beach itself is quite narrow and probably not the most picturesque in Hawaii but the setting is still lovely. We stayed in the penthouse - was very spacious, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, bedroom and lounge and a lanai stretching all along the front side with a great view over the sea and the neighbouring island. Was a lovely place to relax for a few days. My husband and I stayed in an ocean view studio at the Lahaina Shores Beach Resort and had a pleasant time. Our room had a balcony with a beautiful view of the ocean and palm trees. We'd open the balcony doors in the morning and just listen to the waves - it was so calm and relaxing. We were on a higher floor, so didn't have any issues with noise, as described in some other reviews. Our room had a little kitchenette and was pretty spacious. Parking was extra and the parking garage is a little yucky, but this didn't bother us. We didn't spend much time in the parking garage. The hotel is within walking distance from the shops and restaurants in Lahaina, which was convenient. This is not a luxury hotel, but it's a good value in a great little spot with awesome balcony views! We loved this hotel. It is very well situated in the heart of Lahaina. It is cosy, stylish and very quiet. The rooms are very spacious with a balcony. We had a room with a montain view, which was great. My husband and I stayed at Lahina Shores the week of Jan. 13-19, 2008. We were in a studio unit with an ocean view. The resort has a very nice entrance and impressive lobby. The surrounding neighborhood is a little seedy, though. The resort is located within easy walking distance to Old Town Lahaina where there are many shops and restaurants. The white railed bannisters at each lanai look quaint from a distance, but there's some serious paint peeling going on. Paying extra for parking was annoying; it should be included in the room price. Extra annoying is that the parking garage smelled like a dumpster. Our room (#215) had a beautiful view of the ocean. However, it was located right over the pool and Jacuzzi, so there was a noise problem for anyone who wanted to retire before 10 PM. Even after that hour, the resort's maintenance crew made a racket by dragging the plastic chairs across the cement floor. Before sunrise, the maintenance crew would be out there again, hosing down the area and making more noise. The furnishings of our room were quite nice and well-maintained, although I found it odd that the floor board trim was missing. Unfortunately, there is no dishwasher in this unit, so my vacation included washing dishes. The first time I left dishes in the sink, planning on washing up at the end of the day, the maid squirted a large amount of dish detergent into each bowl, glass, and mug and left. (One such squirt would have sufficed for a whole sink full of dishes.) It took me forever to rinse away all the bubbles that resulted. The maid blew her tip with that stunt. The maid service was a little hit-and-miss anyway -- mildew on the tub's tile, dirty doorknobs, sticky countertop, etc. I would recommend this resort to anyone who didn't mind a place that isn't brand new but still a good value. I would also suggest to anyone that they try for a higher floor to escape the noise, especially over the pool area. Lahaina Shores is an older property and it surely shows. It really needs some updating and redecorating. Our ocean view studio was OK. About what you'd expect from a 70's era property. The few looking toward Lanai was absolutely fantastic. We found the staff moderately friendly with a very lovely and extremely helpful lady down at the Expedia desk. Be sure to book your excursions through MK Williams. What a sweetheart! With all that said, it was a great place for our home base on Maui. Numerous restaurants, a Foodland grocery store, many many shops, even several churches are all within walking distance. Lahaina Harbor to pick up one of the excursion boats is even within walking distance. Although it is 1.5 miles down front street, the Old Lahaina Luau is still within walking distance if you are physically able. We had a fabulous time in Lahaina. Glad we stayed there rather than the generic resort areas up in Kaanapali or Kihei. Good luck with this one. All of the rooms are different. I reserved 6 non-smoking rooms for 6 nights. When we got there, I found out only 5 of the rooms were non-smoking. No other standard non-smoking rooms were left so I expected the staff to upgrade us to a better non-smoking room . . . they refused. Ergo, 2 people in my group did not sleep well and woke up with headaches because of the smell. They did put the two in a non-smoking standard for the next 5 evenings. My room, the person who made the reservations was adequate at best. I had not a view of the mountains, like the website said I would, but a view of the roof that covers the entryway. Plus, it was right by the washing machines and elevators. You think they would take care of someone who purchased 36 room nights from them like most other places do! Avoid 220 if you can. Otherwise, it was a pleasant experience. Very close to Lahaina, convenient parking ($7 a day), luau next door, and great views of sunset. If you have a later flight the day you check out, take advantage of their hospitality rooms. Avoid the free breakfast if you are short on time - concierge goes through a long talk on things they can sell you. 1 and a half hours on Maui for a free lame, non filling breakfast. Some people did not even get to eat because they ran out of food. I didn't expect much from Lahaina Shores & I wasn't dissapointed. The condo faciliaty is old, but clean & with freindly staff. The location is great; right on the water & just a few minutes walk to great shops & restuarants. Paying for parking was worth every penny. If you're looking for luxury, this ain't it. It's basic accomadations. What we didn't spend on a ritzy resort, we spent having a lot of fun on Maui. We just came back from a trip to Maui. We stayed at Lahaina Shores for the whole time. We were able to stay at a cheaper rate much less than $200 a night, after a little searching. Location is not bad. It's the lower end of Lahaina so you can leave to other places like Kihei and Kafului in the morning without too much traffic and coming back. It's a little too long walk to completely tour around the old town Lahaina though. First thing surprised us was we had to pay for parking each night. $7 a night. Come on! What else can we get around in Maui? They should at least grant 1 parking spot per room, after paying around $1000 a week to stay. The cart insert for parking gate is on the opposite side of the road, which made getting into the lot a little awkward. We stayed on oceanfront studio. I loved to leave the window open (w/ screen) and listen to the waves and fall asleep. However, almost every night we had to shut the window in the middle of the night, because of some idiot people smoking in the balcony on adjacent units. Wind from ocean pushes smoke back to the building if somebody smokes on the balcony. Hello? this is 21st century! Smoking is so lame! Especially when people break the fire law and smoke within 20 feet from the building. Apparently each unit is owned privately and resort manager can't do anything as far as people smoking on the balcony. Our room was non-smoking, but it doesn't mean a whole a lot if I have to smell smoke every night. They said there are hotels in Maui that has strict non-smoking policy. I guess I'm not staying in this one, again. Other reason I stayed at this place was because it is a condo. However, the kitchen equipment was cheapest grade tools you can buy at walmart. Knives were so dull (looked new) and pots and pans burned like hell every time. Almost every night I heard other units having get together party of some sort - sounded pretty young. I also smelled pot in the hallway a couple of times. Not my kind of guests I want to stay with. Well, I guess u get what u pay for, for less than 200 a night this season in Maui it starts to get a little low-class.

We booked penthouse unit 706 through VRBO. Interior is very nice with upscale furniture and the condo was very clean. Just one note of caution: although it is listed as OCEANFRONT on VRBO the condo is on the mountain side of the building facing Front Street. So dispite of what it says on VRBO, you WILL NOT be able to enjoy views of the sunset from your lanai ( the two sunset photos shown there cannot have been taken from the lanai). Lahaina Shores is in a great location in walking distance to downtown Lahaina. With the tight parking situation in Lahaina, that's a big plus. The beach in front of the building however is narrow at low tide and almost completely disappears at high tide. So, if you want a nice, clean condo in West Maui this is a good choice. If you want ocean views and a nice beach you need to go somewhere else. We stayed at this resort 3 times in the 1990's and loved it. Sadly, we stayed there in Aug. of this year, and it really is in need of some serious repairs. We had 2 oceanfront units. The shower head fell off the wall in 1, maintenance said it rusted off and sort of fixed it so it could be used. We had trouble with the door locks in both units. Were told the salt air deterioates them over time. They should fix them. The air conditioner in the living room did not work, in 1 unit. This used to be our favorite resort on Maui. The Lahaina Shores Beach Resort has a great beach front location on Front Street, the main street with shops and restaurants in Lahaina. We were offered an oceanfront room upgrade for an additional $25/nt. when we checked in and I am so glad we did it because the ocean view balcony saved this part of our trip. Our balcony and ocean view was beautiful, but the room was NOT. Rainbow murals, framed cartoon dolphin pictures from the 1980 olympics, cheesy baskets of old fake flowers, a bed that folds out from the wall, worn and wild looking furniture, a dank smell, a LOUD airconditioner, and tons of Hawaiian pictures made our room super funky and uncomfortable. I was happy that we only booked this hotel for only the first three nights of our trip, because we then spent the next 7 days at the Grand Wailea, which was wonderful. The TV at Lahaina Shores was flat screen and quite large. If you do stay at this hotel, get the ocean view- it is more than worth it. If you do not like old, worn, funky hotels, this is not the place for you. It is definitely not a resort, it is more like a motel on the beach. Lahaina Shores is a hit-and-miss proposition. I've had good and bad experiences here. In 2007, we stayed at unit 615, which was a beautiful and well-kept oceanfront unit. We absolutely loved it. However, the next year, that unit wasn't available, so we stayed in unit 637, a corner unit. That unit was smaller (we knew it going in), but we figured it had a wraparound lanai, which seemed a bonus. However, that unit hasn't been updated in years -- the cabinets are all crooked and almost falling off. The kitchen utensils were in bad shape. We had to call maintenance twice -- first, the a/c didn't work and also because the closet doors were stuck and we couldn't open them (and in a small unit you definitely need to stash the luggage somewhere). They did fix both the a/c and closet doors. The only saving grace was that this unit overlooks a luau next door, and each night we got a free show. Otherwise, the grounds are well-kept, the condo is very quiet and laid back and very central to Lahaina. However, for our next stay, we'll probably go elsewhere -- that last room turned us off. We stayed at Lahaina Shores for 2 nights in September. On the phone they were nice when we booked our room, but when we got to the front desk they were pretty unfriendly and didn't seem to care too much about customer service. The rooms are very old and run down. The view, however, is spectacular...if you're going to stay here you must upgrade to an ocean view. Otherwise you'll be facing the parking lot! There's a full kitchen with refrigerator, though we didn't use it. The kitchen and bathroom were old but kept pretty clean and seemed fine. Beds are pretty hard and the bedspread looked old, cheap and not so clean...we threw ours on the floor rather than sleep with it. The location is just off the main drag in Lahaina so that was perfect, as we wanted to be close to town. It's the closest hotel if you want to be within walking distance of the restaurants and shopping. The pool was very nice and clean. There is beach access, but it's not the best beach there...very shallow beach and the water was a little murky. It was our wedding anniversary, so they told us they would give us a complimentary bottle of champagne. When we arrived back from our lovely dinner and sunset sail, a warm bottle of champagne was sitting on the countertop. They couldn't even put it in the fridge 5 feet away, and I had left a NICE tip. They also turned OFF the music I had left on for when we got back! Apparently they don't have room service...not even ice. I actually brought the champagne back to them and said to forget it...not that I'm trying to be ungrateful but I'd rather they hadn't done anything than something that dumb. The front desk guy didn't really care and just grabbed the bottle and said "ok." Oh well!
