5 of 5  Nice clean place-great value, A TripAdvisor Member, NY, September 25, 2008

We stayed here for two nights on our trip to Florida last week b/c of the good reviews I saw here. I'll echo all the positive comments about the hotel. Nice room, LCD TV, comfortable beds...etc.

Staff was friendly and helpful when we were inquiring about surrounding towns around Tampa.

Good stay and I would return if I'm ever in the Tampa area again.

5 of 5  Great place to stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Alpharetta, GA, August 28, 2008

The Wingate was a great place to stay. Our room was nice and quiet. It was on the back side of the hotel which faces a quiet wooded area. The room had everything as advertised - a comfy king size bed, sofa, free wireless and wired internet, flat screen plasma TV, small fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. The free breakfest is the morning was good, pretty standard continental breakfest fare along with some hot items. The hotel is close to I-75, so getting around town is very convinient. I would definitely stay here again when I'm in Tampa.

Also, I'd recommend booking through the hotel's website directly. They have the best rate, easily beating any of the third party sites (even if you factor in the "free" gas promos that are popular nowadays), and I didn't have to pay in advance.

5 of 5  best place to stay!, A TripAdvisor Member, Alberta, August 26, 2008

Great location, great service. Shuttle is better than driving! They were quick to pick up at Busch Gardens after a phone call. Loved everything. It's the place to stay!

5 of 5  Wonderful stay, great deal, A TripAdvisor Member, Las Vegas, NV, July 6, 2008

I thoroughly researched hotels in the Tampa area before booking this hotel. I am happy to report what many have discovered already: Wingate by Wyndham Tampa North is not only a great deal, but one of the best places you'll stay at...ever. Forgive me for the long review, but here's why:

The room: Sure, it's a typical standard (small) room, but it makes up for it with its amenities. Seriously, the most comfortable beds, sheets, and pillows you've ever slept on. If you don't like the 4 DIFFERENT PILLOWS they offer you initially, they will gladly bring up a 5th, 6th, or 7th different type of pillow for you. A large dresser with 4 huge drawers to unpack your clothes into. A desk with FREE wireless. An alarm clock that serves as a true radio and i-Pod hookup. Forget about a sofa--how about a RECLINER with a reading lamp and end table to read your daily (free) USA Today?! An empty refrigerator (you know, one without those overly priced snacks and alcohol most hotels try to give you), so that you can go down to the local Super Wal-Mart to buy essentials. Microwave oven that actually works and cooks your food evenly. Marble bathroom countertop and tiled shower with Moen Showerhead/faucet. Small safe in large closet. OK, so the TV isn't a flat-screen, but they gave me basic cable, which allowed me to watch CNN and ESPN. My 6-year old loved that he was able to watch all his Cartoon Network shows.

Free breakfast: Not your typical continental one, either. Yes, they served every pastry on the planet, but they also had freshly made waffles, omlettes, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, etc. Great juice selection, too. Flat screen in the dining room to watch CNN Morning, as well.

Happy Hour: Yes, a complimentary happy hour Mon-Thurs, serving beer, wine, and snacks--very nice touch.

Business center: Complimentary use of laptops, fax, and copier.

Pool: Small, but very clean. My son and I were the only ones using it, so that allowed him to splash and make all the noise he wanted.

Jacuzzi: Inside the hotel, in it's own room, off of the exercize room (which I didn't use, but looked nice). Watch out for the slippery floor when you exit the jacuzzi.

Laundry room: Washer and dryer just for guests at end of the hallway on the 3rd floor. Great for when we needed to leave, and our swimsuits and towels from the beach the day before were still wet and needed to be dried before getting on the airplane to go home.

Customer Service: Employees greeting you at every turn, offering their services at any time, checking up on you to see if your stay is enjoyable, etc. When I couldn't leave the room to get the movie times of the theatre across the street, the front desk brought up a printed copy for me. They also gave me directions/recommendations to all the excursions we did (Tropicana Field, Busch Gardens, Disney World, Clearwater Beach, etc.)

Extras: Judith Jackson Spa amenities in the bathroom, and Wolfgang Puck coffee/tea in the room. Side entrance to the hotel off the parking lot (which came in handy when we got caught in a downpour and needed to get in the building fast).

Off-the-beaten-path: In a safe, clean, new part of Tampa (basically the 'burbs). The furthest I had to drive was Disney World/Clearwater Beach (both 1 hour away). Busch Gardens/Adventure Island were 10 minutes away, and downtown Tampa/airport/Port of Tampa/Florida Aquarium was 25 minutes away. The area makes you feel at home, like you're one of the locals--I liked that.

Last thing: I was worried when I got a room facing the front entrance, at the end of the hallway against a stairway. I didn't hear a sound or a peep from the driveway or the stairway, so there was no need to request a room change.

My husband works at a high-end "Strip" property in Vegas, and I can tell you that, between the amenities and customer service, his hotel would've been given a run for its money if the Wyndham was out here. I was very impressed with Wingate by Wyndham, and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to stay at an affordable hotel with high-end amenities.

5 of 5  Excellent property, A TripAdvisor Member, Orland Park, IL, June 26, 2008

We booked the hotel through Busch Gardens, which was 7 miles away. A beautiful hotel in a new section of Tampa, close to the Interstate and very easy to get to Busch Gardens. The staff at the hotel was wonderful and very helpful. The hotel was spotless and the free morning breakfast was terrific also.

5 of 5  loved this hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Lisburn, United Kingdom, June 12, 2008

this hotel is truley the best, for going to bushe gardens we staid here once before and we loved it then and now.

the room are big and the beds bigger, my husband loves the breakfast which is included a real breakfast with sausages and bacon and cereal, muffins, waffles and so the list goes on.

all the staff speak and say hello. the fron desk guys are the best and even give us free tickets to the local cinema, there is fab chinese restaraunt around the corner and you MUST go there. if we could move this one to orlando we would we will be back.

5 of 5  Great hotel, great service, A TripAdvisor Member, Southampton, May 1, 2008

We stayed here for two nights on a tour round Florida from the UK. We arrived late from the airport, were greeted cheerfully and quickly given our rooms, which was good as we had been travelling 20 hours. The beds are really comfortable and the hotel is quiet.

The breakfast is good, with some hot choices and great waffles. Particularly liked the sliced fresh fruit.

There is a good pool and a well stocked fitness centre.

The hotel is very convenient for Busch Gardens and the Science museum.

5 of 5  Excellent value, A TripAdvisor Member, Syraucse, April 24, 2008

This hotel is located near many restaurants and stores and immediately off I-75. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were great. Breakfast every morning was better than expected. The pool and hot tub were clean and operational. I would certainly stay here again.

5 of 5  Great, fantastic hotel!, A TripAdvisor Member, Florida, March 23, 2008

This was absolutely one of the best hotel visits we have ever experienced, from the moment we arrived and was greeted by a very friendly, and informative staff to the moment we departed.

Everything was perfect. The happy hour and great full breakfast was terrific!

It is 1/4 mile from a very nice park with a running, biking, etc. trail.

5 of 5  Excellent Hotel Stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Iowa, March 22, 2008

Our family of 4 including 2 teenagers just returned from a 5 night stay at the Wingate. The hotel was very clean, very good hot/cold breakfast with waffles, toast, pastries that meets both business and family needs. Coffee can use some improvement (of course Starbucks, etc. would be better). Beds were very comfortable and TV worked well. Housekeeping did a very nice job.

We selected the hotel based on the reviews here and was not disappointed. Certainly deserves the tripadvisor ratings.

Good location for the airport (30 minutes), Busch Gardens (10 minutes) and Legends Field (35 minutes). To the Clearwater, Madeira Beach areas expect 40-50 minute drive. The fitness cener and whirlpool area were not used due to our schedule but very adequate. Outdoor pool available.

5 of 5  Enjoyed the Wingate, A TripAdvisor Member, utah, March 16, 2008

The room was great - clean, comfortable. The staff was fabulous - helpful and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

5 of 5  Jan's review of the Wingate, A TripAdvisor Member, Lakeland, February 12, 2008

Excellent experience, excellent staff, excellent facilities, would highly recommend to other travelers.

5 of 5  Best value north of tampa, A TripAdvisor Member, Andover, Massachusetts, February 12, 2008

We stayed five days in the North Tampa area (Busch Gardens, University of South Florida). We researched all of the value (2-plus star) hotels.

The Wingate by Wyndham was hands-down the best option.

Bruce B. Downs (the location of the hotel) is clean, safe and offers many options for dinner and entertainment (many restaurants, 20-cinema movie). The hotel back up to the nature preserve.

The hotel is relatively new, very clean, and chock-full of amentities (fitness center, hot tub, internet access, business center, complimentary hot breakfast). Each room has LodgeNet (pay per view) access, hbo, and a good offering of channels. Each room has both a safe and a refridgerator. Every morning, guests receive a complimentary copy of USA Today.

The rooms are very quiet. You can't hear the tv from the neighboring room, or the traffic from outside.

The staff was very polite, and helpful.

5 of 5  The staff were wonderful, A TripAdvisor Member, tucson arizona, December 6, 2007

We were visiting Tampa for a sad reason. My only sister had just died of cancer and we had driven from Az to attend the funeral. Because of the emergency trip we brought our pet with us. When we arrived in Tampa we could not locate a hotel/motel which was pet friendly near Land o' Lakes FL. As a last resort we drove into the Wingate on Bruce B. Downs Blvd. My wife went in expecting to be told "no pets" but to the contrary we were treated by the staff with sincere caring for us. They made every effort to locate a room in their hotel for us for the night and then worked very diligently to find a room for the second night. They were booked due to a soccer tournament. Dara at the registration desk, Steve in maintenance and Najwa the general manager were all very kind and wonderful. The facility was very clean, well maintained and modern with a nice fitness room. The complimentary breakfast was excellent. They even offered to carry our bags to the room we transferred to for the second night. It was a nice upgrade at no additional cost. The hotel was very pet friendly and made our Standard Poodle feel at home. The location was very convenient to the Interstate 75 and local shopping and restaurants. But the wonderful hospitality of the staff and management brought back the true meaning of inn keeping for travelers who are tried and experiencing a family sadness. We will always remember the stay at the Wingate with warm thoughts of a staff who really care and reached out to help us in a time of personal sadness.

5 of 5  Excellent Facility,Excellent Staff., A TripAdvisor Member, Illinois, November 21, 2007

Excellent Facility. The building and grounds are relatively new. The maintenance is Superb. Front dest staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean, comfortable and well appointed.

This hotel is simply the best we have stayed in over the past two years. (We have probably stayed in a total of a eight to twelve.)

You won't be disappointed if you choose to stay in this hotel.

This is the one located on Dona Michelle Drive, Tampa, FL.

5 of 5  Fantastic service, great value, A TripAdvisor Member, Manhattan Beach, CA, November 4, 2007

We came in late and were leaving early the next morning. Even though we were not able to use all of the facilities, we could see there were plenty. Free internet, free printer, free gym, free breakfast... amazing. What was even better was the staff. Since we were leaving too early to have the breakfast, the two staff members made us a breakfast to go. This was truly beyond the call of duty.

Everything was clean in its place. The halls, rooms, bathrooms, and lobby. Would high recommend this hotel.

5 of 5  Very, Very , Nice, A TripAdvisor Member, altanta, October 26, 2007

The hotel is brilliant tand we have never experienced such incredible service before. It was so lovely that it was hard to drag ourselves away from the hotel to go to the theme parks at all. nice hotel...with friendly people like Richi we made us feel like we were in our house...

5 of 5  The Breakfest is Awesome, A TripAdvisor Member, Washington, DC, October 5, 2007

We stayed here for a mini vacation to Busch Gardens, Which we had booked through the Busch Gardens website. We were very happy. The Hotel was clean, the staff was nice. The breakfest was the best, I was surprised by bacon and sausage and a Waffle Iron.

The room where clean, down comforter was nice and warm, sheets were clean, internet acess was available through wireless or a wired connection for Free. I couldn't get a wifi signal, but the wired in room box worked great, I was able to keep up with my Fantasy Football. While eating breakfest one morning a staff member offered and gave us some coupons to the a local resteraunt for free kids meals it was a welecome surprise. Lots of good places to eat close by, the Movie Theatre is pretty close for a walk, but I would suggest a drive. Busch Garden was about 20mins away Just get on Briuce down and head southwest....

I would definately go back to the Wingate when I go back to Tampa

5 of 5  Would do it again!, A TripAdvisor Member, Indiana, October 3, 2007

My fiance and I were in Tampa visiting family and we decided to stay at the Wingate. We were very pleased with our stay. Once we arrived the staff members were very friendly and upbeat and they took the time to talk to us about the hotel's accomadations which included a free breakfast, a workout room with a whirlpool and also the business center.

The business center was great! There was never a wait to use the computers and that was definitely convenient for us. It felt like we were at home!

The rooms were very clean and the breakfast was very good as well. I think we were expecting "typical" hotel breakfast food like small cereal boxes and milk but they really had a large selection of food and drinks so we were pleasently surprised.

We really had a great stay and would definitely stay during our next visit to sunny Tampa!

5 of 5  The Beer is Free!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Stuart, May 7, 2007

I have been staying at the Wingate Inn New Tampa for years. The staff goes out of their way to make our stay pleasurable. They have a great happy hour with complimentary wine and beer. In passing one day I commented that they didn’t have Budweiser Select and that it was my favorite. Sure enough the following week they had it, and ever since they always make sure they have some for me. Somehow I also seem to receive complimentary upgrades without even asking. The staff is very professional and friendly. Any time I’m traveling in Tampa this is the only place I stay.

It’s my home away from home.

5 of 5  Exceptional!!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Sarasota, May 3, 2007

This hotel was simply wonderful!

As a constant business traveller, I spend most of my time living out of a suitcase moving from one average hotel to the next. However, my stay at the Wingate Inn was one of the most comfortable & convenient stays I have had in a long time.

At check-in, I was offered a cold bottle of water and friendly conversation with the manager, Eric.

The guest room was incredibly spacious - a refrigerator, a microwave, & a safe in the room. And the room was CLEAN!!!!!

The breakfast spread in the morning was overwhelming - eggs, bacon, fresh bread, & best of all, make your own waffles. Delicious!

But, most of all - the staff was amazing! From the housekeepers that greeted me in the halls, to the breakfast attendant, Rodrigo. The entire staff seems overwhelmingly committed to guest happiness! Well Done, Eric! Please pass along my praise to your staff.

There is no doubt that I will be back, because I have already booked my next reservation.

5 of 5  Finally a great hotel!, A TripAdvisor Member, PBG, FL, April 25, 2007

I am the travel coordinator for my daughter's gym. We have stayed at a lot of places this season and a handful of them turned out to be awful so I was very anxious when we got to this hotel. I was happily surprised that this hotel turned out to be wonderful! The beds were so comfortable, the rooms were clean, and the staff was very polite and helpful! We didn't get to use the pool that weekend because it was being repaired but they were more than happy to bring us to their sister hotel via the hotel shuttle for anyone who wanted to swim. Of all 10 hotels we stayed at this season, this was the ONLY one that I did not receive any complaints about!

5 of 5  Spotless hotel, great beds, nice area, good value, A TripAdvisor Member, Milwaukee, WI, August 24, 2006

I normally stay in the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in the same area whenever I come into town however they were sold out, so I decided to give the Wingate a try and I was very Impressed.

I arrived early (before check-in time) and they were able to get me right into my room anyway. The room was spotless. A small but nice touch was the welcome note from the maid. The microwave and small refridgerator in the room made for my night stay feel like home. But the real topper was the bed, I slept so well on that bed that I wanted to take it home with me.

The area this hotel is in is very nice with lots of restaurants and shopping. Before dinner I stopped at the hotel's early evening happy hour. They gave out free beer, wine and snacks. Good restaurants in the area are Stonewood Grill and Polo's (which is an Italian place). By the way, I checked almost every travel website to make sure I got the best rate. In the end, the hotel's own site had the best rate. The rate also includes the wireless internet and a pretty good breakfast with eggs and sausage so I'd rate the value as good.

5 of 5  Just Great, A TripAdvisor Member, Chicago, Illinois, August 7, 2006

This is a fantastic place! You can tell the management really pays close attention to this property. It is sparkling and feels very new and well-kept. The staff is very helpful and friendly and they did their best to to be concierges (rare for an economy hotel). The lobby and breakfast area is spacious and clean. The rooms are well equipped with wifi, irons, coffeemakers, minifridges, and microwaves - all of which I used and appreciated during my brief, 2 night stay. The location is right off the freeway in the middle of suburban sprawl so it's convenient to dining and shopping. There is a Walgreens about a 5 minute walk away. Not sure I'd stay here for a beach vacation but it's great for Busch Gardens and any business/pleasure in the north Tampa suburbs. I will definitely return to this property and will look for other Wingate Inns for my travels.

5 of 5  Great value in the Tampa Area, A TripAdvisor Member, miami, January 4, 2006

Stayed for 2 nights starting December 30, 2005. This is a great inexpensive option relatively close to everything (15 to 20 minutes from Busch Gardens and 20 to 25 from downtown/port/Ybor area). The hotel has just been renovated and offers very spacious rooms with free internet access, microwave and refrigerator. The bathroom had an excellent shower and nice toiletries. Breakfast was included and offered an impressive selection including eggs, sausage and waffles, apart from standard continental staples. The staff was very friendly and helpful. In all, an unbeatable value at $99 per night.

5 of 5  Great Location for Golfer, A TripAdvisor Member, Nova Scotia, Canada, April 12, 2005

My wife and I stayed there for a golfing vacation and couln't have been more pleased. The breakfast was excellent. The location was ideal for the golfer with no more than a 15 minute drive for golf. After the golf game we always jumped in the hot tub to relax those tired muscles.

(Walgreen's next door sells cheap golfballs.) Two college golf teams were there at the same time and it was great to see their enthusiasm.

Great restauants are close-even a Home Depot if you need some hardware repair.

We will definitely stay there again. Clean and friendly.

5 of 5  Wonderful Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, February 26, 2005

This hotel is excellent, the staff, the rooms, the breakfast, the 'happy hour' in the evening. The only downfall that this hotel has is that the location is a little 'out of the way'.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Made my holiday!!

5 of 5  A very good hotel!, A TripAdvisor Member, Winnipeg, Canada, January 28, 2005

My family (including two kids age 6 &9) stayed here January 10-11 and again on the 23rd. I had read all the previous reviews and they are pretty much accurate, it is a very clean, nicely appointed hotel. The rooms are suprisingly spacious, especially after we stayed at the Disney Pop Century. However, there are a couple of observations I need to make. The free computer access was nice, but the impatient and annoyed Businessman hovering behind me was not. This hotel is primarily geared to business travellers, less so to families with small kids. The outdoor pool is not heated. The free breakfast was a nice bonus. As a travel professional, I was able to obtain a reduced rate, and each front desk person I dealt with made a comment about it. Call me paranoid, but after that, I felt a distinct coolness coming my way. In all fairness however, the Manager (who must sleep in the back room, he is ALWAYS there!) and staff seemed to be very friendly to the other guests. Maybe it's just me. The location is far from downtown and the airport, but it is a nice suburban residential area, lots of restaurants nearby and not too far from Busch Gardens. I would definetly recommend this place!

5 of 5  TERRIFIC HOTEL, A TripAdvisor Member, Marietta, GA, January 3, 2005

Really pleasant, clean room and an outstanding staff headed by Manuel, the superb general manager who obviously has inspired his whole team to do a great job. Best breakfast buffet we've had anywhere. Plenty of restaurants and shopping just down the street. We travel a lot and wish we could find hotels like this everywhere.

5 of 5  wonderful hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, chicago, November 3, 2004

this hotel is just wonderful clean clean clean comfortable large rooms the whole hotel is great the manager manny and his staff are friendly and will help you with all your travel need from were to eat to what to see they find all the informatin for you in just minutes the free breakfast in the morning was like going to IHOP but it was free great location close to busch gardens you can buy 10 day ticket at the front desk for a adult ticket for 10 days was only 79 dollar and this is for unlimited admission to bursch gardens and adventure island for ten days we are going back to tampa again next year to stay at this wonderful wonderful hotel

5 of 5  Manny is the manager with the most!, A TripAdvisor Member, Scotland, UK, June 7, 2004

The Windgate Inn was a clean, friendly, well oiled machine. It ran like clock-work and the manager and staff were friendly and intelligent. The rooms were large, clean and perfect. The jacuzzi was a blessing, the breakfast and morning papers a great touch! All in all this is the place we are returning to. They can even get great deals on car rentals that are brought right to the Inn for you. Everything is mint. I don't think it would be the same if Manny wasn't there. He is an amazing manager and person.

Thank you for a wonderful stay! It made our trip!

5 of 5  A class act, A TripAdvisor Member, March 22, 2004

Hotel was immaculate, service staff was informative, friendly.

Breakfast bar was an added plus. Room was spacious and well attended to. Only downside was our room had mattreses that were on the older side. Would recommend this hotel highly.

5 of 5  Excellent Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Toronto, Canada, January 4, 2004

This is a great 2 1/2 star hotel. A safer, better, choice than many 3 stars, at a lower cost.

Am typing this from the hotel (business center with one computer with free internet access for guests) at end of a 3 night stay (12/31 to 1/3).

Meets and exceeds expectations. Rooms are as advertised -- larger than typical hotel rooms. Very well kept. Free breakfast, in-door hot tub, small exercise room outdoor pool.

Great location in North Tampa, an upper-middle class suburb with lots of good restaurants nearby. The staff are great. The General Manager, Manuel, is very helpful and seems to be on duty at all hours!

The location is an easy 10 minute drive from Busch Gardens (simple straight drive), and is next to the I-75, but is very quiet.

This hotel is an award winner among Wingate properties.

5 of 5  Wingate Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Phoenix, AZ, September 6, 2003

We stayed at the Wingate in July 2003. The staff at the hotel were great, and always helpful! We liked the location because there's shopping all along the road, on both sides of the Interstate, and lots of restaurants. The location was also convenient as a midway point between Plant City and Tampa.

We also enjoyed the outside pool and the inside hot tub, plus the daily breakfast buffet and the afternoon happy hour.

We also stayed at the Wingate because we had high-speed Internet access in our room.

We plan to stay at the Wingate again when we visit Tampa!

5 of 5  Loved the hotel and the area around it!, A TripAdvisor Member, New York, New York, October 20, 2002

A really great place to stay! I was there in June of 2002 and loved it. One of the best things about this hotel is its location; There is a great Movie theatre near by (Muvico) and a lot of places to eat (like Ruby Tuesdays). Not too far from Tampa's attractions (Make sure you visit Ybor City).

The staff was really great and the room exceptional.

The next time I visit Tampa, I will definitely stay at the Wingate in North Tampa.

4 of 5  Pleasantly surprised, A TripAdvisor Member, Detroit, MI, July 29, 2008

We were not expecting to stay at this hotel or in this area. We went to Clearwater Beach first but were very unimpressed with the hotels in that area, so we came upon this property. We had Busch Gardens tickets so we decided to stay close to that park.

This hotel is roughly 10 minutes from Busch Gardens. On arrival we thought the hotel was in the middle of nowhere and were thinking why would they have a hotel in this area. However over our stay we did notice it was NOT in the middle of nowhere, there were plenty of restaurants and stores nearby. The hotel was clean. The pool was like bath water, very warm. Our kids enjoyed our stay at the hotel. So if you are looking for a place to stay and DO NOT want to be by water but want to be by Busch Gardens this hotel is for you. Again it is roughly 10 minutes from Busch Gardens.

4 of 5  A really nice place to stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Gatlinburg, Tennessee, July 22, 2008

Located across the street from the campus of the University of South Florida, this was a pleasant surprise. OK, it's not the Ritz, but is very clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, and my room was one of the best accessible rooms I've ever had. It's surrounded by restaurants, malls, attractions (Busch Gardens) and if you have business at the university, it's a lot less expensive than the Embassy Suites across the street. The free breakfast was good and filling, and you can make your own waffles. The pool, fitness room and whirlpool are open 24-hours per day and there is a guest laundry. My room was equipped with a refrigerator and microwave and free safe. There is a charge for the Internet. It's a little on the plain side, but I enjoyed my stay and plan to return.

4 of 5  Loved the Wingate, A TripAdvisor Member, Boston, April 29, 2008

The hotel staff was lovely and the rooms were clean and larger than we had expected. The breakfast was quite good and kept us filled well into the mid-day. The staff was also very helpful with suggestions of restaurants and beaches.

4 of 5  Would return, A TripAdvisor Member, Atlanta, Georgia, April 26, 2008

We stayed 3 nights. We chose this hotel because it is near USF and we were visiting my son. Also it accepts pets and we travel with two small poodles.

The only complaint we had was that it had rained a lot recently and the room felt a little damp, otherwise it was just fine.

The location is perfect, the employees were very helpful and nice. The room was fairly clean and the housekeeping staff we saw spoke English.

We would return without hesitation.

4 of 5  Nice!, A TripAdvisor Member, Washington, DC, March 13, 2008

I like Wingates, as an overall chain. The room was large, clean, and well maintained. The breakfast was good and they had both hot and cold food options. A nice plus was they have a shuttle service that will take you to places in the local area and they have free internet service.

4 of 5  great hotel to stay at, A TripAdvisor Member, New Jersey, November 27, 2007

we had a wonderful vacation at your hotel due to

three employees at the front desk, Eric, Rob and Ritchie.

They were very friendly. helpful and courteous .

We hope you would commend these three people.

4 of 5  Saint Leo University graduation hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Strawberry Plains, May 13, 2007

Overall this hotel was very nice. We stayed here on our visit to my graduation at Saint Leo University and we also went to Busch Gardens. This hotel was in a good location for both. First of all I am very picky, when entering a hotel room I usually go straight to the bathroom and check it for hair, etc. This hotel was very clean and the beds were nice and had good quality sheets and bedding. I used the exercise room, which was a little small and would have been overcrowded if more than a few people were in it, but it met my needs just fine. The pool was clean and water temp for May was great, the chairs poolside could be of better quality, but they were usable. The breakfast was very good for a free breakfast, they had omlets everyday along with cereals, variety of breads and bagels and waffles you can make yourself. The only problem if you could call it that was on Sat. morning it was very crowded and they kept running out of food faster then they could replace it so you had to wait a bit for it, but it was a reasonable amount of time. The only thing I didn't like was going to the front desk, on several different trips of walking by or asking a question, they were talking badly about guest and laughing and upon checking my id, the clerk told me that I had a cheesy smile in my picture, which I felt was rude. It made you not want to ask questions because you didn't know what they would say next or about you when you left. This was on check-in and on Sat. It was the same clerks. The other clerks on Sun & Mon seemed very nice and helped with directions to Busch Gardens and also the beach (which is about 50 min away) Overall the hotel was very nice and if we were in the area we would stay there again.

4 of 5  Well Worth It!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Atlanta, GA, August 1, 2006

My husband and I decided to visit the Tampa area to take our 4 children on there first trip to Busch Gardens. We were very pleased, despite some negative reviews. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. The pool was ok...the kids spent hours at a time in it. The breakfast was awesome....our kids loved being able to make their own waffles! I agree with a previous review which states that the young lady that maintains the breakfast bar really does a great job with keeping it clean and stocked...and she does it with a smile! The service was pretty..we were always greeted with smiles upon entering the lobby....regardless of what time it was. The only small issue that I had was that housekeeping forgot to leave clean towels after cleaning the rooms one day. Even though we didn't realize until returning to our rooms at 10pm, once we contacted the front desk..they had fresh towels delivered promptly. The location was perfect for us. Busch Gardens was only about 10 minutes away. Also, the hotel is located right off of the interstate and a main strip which has LOADS of shopping and restaurants. Overall, we were all very pleased with the experience and whenever we decide to visit the area again....we will definitely stay at this hotel again!!

4 of 5  Would stay there again, A TripAdvisor Member, Golden Valley, MN, April 23, 2006

We stayed at the Wingate for 4 nights. The staff was very nice and friendly. The lady who worked with the Continental Breakfast really earns her salary. Kept it well stocked with a variety of food choices. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Stayed at this Wingate instead of Wingate closer to Busch Gardens even though it costed more because it had a safe. Only complaint is that it said the safe was big enough to store our laptop, which it was not even close. Nice quiet neighborhood though. Was worried about seeing roaches, which we never saw even one. (Maybe they are seasonable??). Indoor jacuzzi would be better served outside, but I guess at least they had one. I am pretty picky about hotels, I am willing to pay a tad more to avoid roaches. This one passed my test of expectations. I therefore would recommend. I count on these reviews when planning a hotel stay, so I hope this helps someone. Hope you have the same luck we did here.

4 of 5  Great place to stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Northwest Indiana, April 21, 2006

Just returned from Florida, where I took my step daughter for a spring break vacation. We stayed at the Wingate Inn North in Tampa. I can say that it was one of the best vacations I have had in years. The staff, the breakfasts and my accomodations (particularly the comfortable beds, and soft white pillows) were all fantastic. The refrigerator & microwave in my room with a teenager (they are always hungry) were a blessing. I feel like this is a great value as everything is included in the price! This has to be one of the cleanest hotels I have every stayed at. The only problem I had was that I was unaware that Florida had become "no smoking" inside public areas and at the resturant I had to go outside for a cigarette but that was very minor for what we got in return.

I would highly recommend the Wingate North to anyone going to Tampa.

4 of 5  Loved the Hotel!, A TripAdvisor Member, Upper Marlboro, MD, May 4, 2005

My family of three stayed at Wingate Inn in New Tampa for two nights. Our rooms were better than expected and the hotel staff was very pleasant and helpful. There was a price difference of $20 between our online reservation rate and the rate at check-in. However, we did remember to bring a copy of our online reservation form and the hotel staff gladly changed our rate. The expanded continental breakfast was good, it even had waffle grill. The only downsides were the pool and the spa. They both were way too cold. The pool was also cluttered with leaves. It should be cleaned more often.

However, we would gladly stay here again as it is only about 25 mins from Tampa's airport.

3 of 5  Good value, but some problems, A TripAdvisor Member, New York, NY, January 23, 2008

Ok for budget travel. Room was depressing. Color on the television was off - the picture was green. Did not get my wake up call. No restaurant or lounge. If you want to eat, you can have pizza delivered or you can pick food up from a nearby chain restaurant. Good business center. Comfortable bed.

2 of 5  Beware - Get written price confirmation, A TripAdvisor Member, Knoxville, TN, April 6, 2005

My family stayed at this hotel March 19th - 21st based on other posted reviews, and I was in general agreement with other reviewers' positive comments ... until we tried to check-out. I had previously called the Dona Michelle location twice - one time to make reservations (including their Busch Gardens Package and upgrading to Jr. Suite) and second call to confirm reservations (about two weeks prior to arrival). I asked for the TOTAL price (specifically asked that it include all upgrading charges, tax, etc.) and wrote that quoted amount in my notes. Upon checkout, price was ~$40 more than quoted. There were no incidental room charges incurred (phone, etc.) so I showed the hotel clerk my notes with total price written on the paper and asked (nicely) for an explanation. The clerk could not figure it out so he asked the Manager for help. The Manager came out to the front desk with an attitude saying that the price charged was correct and he didn't know where I got my quote from (his staff!). In my opinion, he was rude and embarrassed me in front of other guests and my 8 year old daughter. I am not a confrontational person, so I just signed the tickets for the increased amount and left, but will never go back based on how I was treated. I guess I've learned a good lesson - get all reservation quotes IN WRITING in the future.

These people really don't care.

They say they have a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Good luck collecting on that.

We had reservation weeks in advance. I check back twice to confirm my reservation including the day of our reservation.

We arrived very late (which we notified them of) and they have given our room away. We waited in the lobby for over an hour while they goofed off and then gave us a room of lesser size then we needed. Too late to book another hotel! Plus, I met two other groups, that night, that were given the same run around.

I tried to talk to management to no avail. Sent letters to management and corporate. No reply.

If I were you I would pass on this one hotel. Unless you want to risk it !
