After Having a Pleasant stay at the vagabond SFO I decided to try this Vagabond Inn on Figueroa while on trip with a few friends. The exterior and curb appeal was nice with palm trees and well kept grass and flowers. Check in was fast and easy the front desk attendant was very helpful and informed me with all the amenities. We had a family suite on the second floor that consisted of a large room with a king bed and a smaller room with bunk beds. Both rooms had a TV and shared a bathroom. The room was clean had all the basic necessities along with working ac. There was no Wi-Fi but they did have DSL and were generous enough to lend me an Ethernet cable. The hotel seemed high on occupancy, the pool was somewhat crowded but we had no parking problems. The vicinity was great everything seemed to be with in walking distance and open 24 hours we did not feel threatened at all by the neighborhood. The location was perfect for our needs. On Saturday night we had the front desk call a taxi to take us into Hollywood and it was there within 10 minutes and only cost us $30 one way (in SF that would have been a good $50 trip). Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone. I am content with my decision of having stayed there and will definitely go again. We are glad that you had a wonderful stay with us in Los Angeles and we hope to see you back soon. With the forthcoming added amenities such as a buffet continental breakfast at the Cafe Cinecitta, we are sure you will find your next stay with us more satisfying. I just returned from a trip to LA and I booked a stay at this hotel. I must say I was pleasantly surprised.. It is one of the cheapest accommodation I could find in the area, but yet it had the amenities and facilities of any other regular hotel. The room was neat and large enough for two. TV had 99 channels so no lack of entertainment.. The staff were friendly, and although I arrived early, the front desk staff was very helpful and accommodated to me checking in early (at 11am as opposed to the stated time of 2pm). Free parking is a convenience to all those who drive. The restaurant staff were also very friendly. Breakfast was included in the booking, and although it was simple fare, it was adequate to start the day. The only gripe I had was the internet connection wasn't working throughout my stay. Reason was that the provider didn't come down to service it. It was mitigated somewhat by the availability of a stand alone in the front desk, as well as wireless connection at the restaurant, but still it caused some inconvenience as the restaurant is not open 24/7 and there is only ONE available terminal to be shared by all tenants. This is the only reason why I wouldn't rate it a 5/5. We would like to thank you for taking the time and writing a review of our hotel. Your opinion and recommendation is helpful to improve our service to you. We pride ourself on the quality of service provided to the guest. We try to offer the best to our guests that is why we have teamed up with Cafe Cine Citta to offer you an expanded breakfast buffet which includes: coffee, tea, juice, fruit, yogurts, hard boiled eggs, pancake and waffle station, dry cereals and oatmeal with milk, wheat and white bread, and assorted baked pastries. We hope you come back to visit us and try us out again. Very good value. Appreciate the fast internet connection. Standard motel-type accommodations, but it seems like they do an especially good job, esp. considering the price. Rooms are quiet despite the busy street. Location is good - hop on the free and frequent DASH bus to downtown in 10-15 min total. We would like to thank you for taking the time and writing a review of our hotel. Your opinion and recommendation is helpful to improve our service to you. We pride ourself on the quality of service provided to the guest. It is great to hear feedback on how we are doing. Our guest enjoy all of the amenities that you would find at a high priced hotel without having to pay the high price. We hope you come back to visit us and try us out again. We arrived on a weekday, early in the afternoon. The front desk staff were cordial and helpful. We were two adults and two children under 4. When we arrived, our room was not ready. A senior staff member offered to let us wait in the pool area under some shade. The room was clean. The furniture is relatively old but in good condition. There were ants in the "kitchen area" - where the sink, fridge, and microwave were, but the management is taking care of it--the fumigator was there during our stay. At night, the neighbourhood is generally quiet. The continental breakfast begins at 6:30 a.m., which is great for those of us who are early birds. We were able to get to the Convention Centre by bus - the Dash for only 25 cents per person. The Dash and other bus services are available within a block from the Inn. There are lots of eating places in the vicinity - McDonalds, Subway, Mexican food, etc. If we visited LA again and needed to be close to Downtown, I would definitely stay at this Inn. I recommend it for any traveller who wants to be close to Downtown. Dear Valued Guest, We are glad to know that your recent stay with us was very comfortable and satisfying. Thank you for your comments and suggestions. We are always doing our best to meet every guest's expectations. We hope to see you and your family on your next visit to Los Angeles. Overall, a great value compared to most properties in the LA area. Will definitely stay there again. Clean, well kept property with palm trees lining the pool. Read on for more specific details.... Good Stuff: * Free parking * Visibile Security (Figueroa Corridor Security) * Many restaurants & coffee shops within walking distance * VERY reasonable rates (check out their website for internet & AAA deals) * Family Rooms (one bed for parents, bunk beds or 2 doubles for the kids in a separate area) * Down the street from Staples Center & USC * Continental breakfast offered (a few bagels & muffins) * Gorgeous pool * Bank of America ATM across the street Not So Good Stuff: * Top bunk bed not made- had to do it myself, but as anyone who's ever slept in a bunk beds knows it's hard to make the top bunk (fresh sheets were provided and the fitted sheet was always put on) * If you go too far past the airplane in front of the USC building, you'll end up in "da 'hood"- be aware of your surroundings! * Continental breakfast- nothing to write home about, we ended up at the donut shop next door (BTW: my family ALWAYS uses the continental when we travel, so this breakfast was LAME!) * The extra room where the kids slept was stuffy (there was a window that you could leave open) Note: During other times of the year the atmosphere may be very different. USC has a popular football team (the Trojans), so things might be a bit rowdier if you visit in the fall. Since the Lakers & Clippers play down the street, you may also notice some basketball fans from the end of October on into April. (Playoffs are in May & June- the Lakers are a perennial playoff team.) We stayed during an off time for this hotel. The Room & Staff The Vagabond staff was courteous & professional. The front office is open 24/7 and offers drinks (water, coffee, tea & juice) anytime. The rooms were clean & neat. Furniture was in good shape and was fairly modern. The property was located down the street from USC and Interstate 110. Overall Impressions I enjoyed my stay at the Vagabond. I mentioned earlier that "da 'hood" was down the street. In spite of that, I felt VERY safe. (BTW: the more expensive Radisson is far closer to "da 'hood" than the Vagabond ;)) Don't be put off by the surroundings as the city is obviously working hard to make tourists feel safe in the area. I am a Univerisity Professor. My collegue and I came to LA to do some research at USC. I stayed at the Vagabond Inn because our reservation at the Radisson was not found when we arrived. I was pleasantly surprised, when I entered the room, as I am not familiar with this name. The room was clean, and looked to have been renovated recently. The most exciting part, is that they were filming a movie on the premises. As a theatre-buff, I was excited to see this! I would recommmend The Vagabond Inn to any of my collegues travelling to LA. I have been to this area several times lately because my youngest is going to college at USC :) I have always had a great stay, and the staff has been very accommodating to me and my family. I just recently found out about this site from my son. I was shocked to read above comments. This place is my home away from home, and I will be coming out to this area several times for the next four years. My daughter and I stayed here visiting the University of Southern California (just down the street) based on a trip advisor review. Everything in the review was accurate. The hotel was not much to look at from the outside, but the rooms were clean, decently furnished, and a decent size. The beds were very comfortable, too. There was an Internet terminal in the office available for guests' use. I had no safety problems walking to and from the University during the day. Also, it was pleasant to jog around Exposition Park and the museums (across the street from USC) in the morning. I did not see many other joggers in the morning, but a lot of people seem to jog there after work. Given the rate I got, $85, I felt like it was a bargain for visiting USC, along with other downtown sights--Museum of Natural History, China Town, Olvera Street, the fashion district, etc. This is a motel...in the middle of Los Angeles....so do not expect luxuries. PROS: Great location for a USC visit FREE Parking Continental breakfast included Comfortable beds Free and fast internet connection in the rooms (at least in the one we stayed). Non smoking rooms. CONS: Not exactly a model of cleanliness Outdated and cheap furniture Weird characters around the hotel (I felt safe with hubby and son, but I would not stay there by myself). I went to this hotel with some friends, the trip wasn't planned so as soon as we got in L.A. we booked the first place we heard of, here are some good and bad things: The good: Comfortable beds and pillows Air conditioner Coffee maker, instant coffee, hair dryer Nice bathroom Friendly cleanning staff Decent breakfast The bad: The price was a bit expensive, i searched other hotels for the same price and they were better. The front desk people a bit rude Not a safe neighborhood Noisy air conditioner Ants all over the place even in the bed

I needed to stay close to the Sports Arena for one night for a Bruce Springsteen concert. This is a budget hotel in a poor downtown neighbourhood so I wasn't expecting much. The front desk staff were pleasant enough and the motel grounds seemed well maintained. My room was pretty dingy but generally clean. The bathroom looked quite new and was a pleasant surprise. However, when I pulled back the bedspread soiled pillows where visible through the pillow cases and I slept with a towel over them. The skimpy sheet revealed a stained mattress which was pretty revolting. Despite being close to a busy road it was quite quiet at night and once I'd locked the door I didn't feel particularly unsafe. Bruce was great but I don't think I will be staying here again. Thank you for letting us know about your experience at our hotel. Your comments help us to improve our hotel and the quality of experience for our guests. We are in the process of updating the beds in all of our rooms. We have also replaced all of our pillows with new hypo allergenic pillows. I am sorry that your stay with us was effected and we hope that you will come back and try us again. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you. Rooms smelled, toilets ran all night, everyone at the front desk was completly and overly rude on purpose. I asked for a smoking room and the guy at the front desk said the whole hotel was non-smoking, The man behind me asked for the same....and GOT IT! This hotel is geared more toward the spanish speaking. They called at 9 am and reminded me that check out was at 11 am, they then proceded to tell me that I had to get out as soon as possible so the maid could clean the room by 11 for the next guest. I will never stay at this hotel again.
