Not a particularly good Hampton

2 of 5  Not a particularly good Hampton, A TripAdvisor Member, Oregon, October 18, 2007

Not one of the better Hampton Inns; quite possibly the worst I have stayed in. The comforter had a hole burned in it (in a non smoking room). There were only two thin towels provided for a King room. Also the sheets did not fit the bed properly and by morning they were half off the mattress. My husband hated the tv because it was old style with a curved front and poor reception. There were also two tour buses staying when we were there; which meant we heard the sound of doors slamming constantly. The hotel had a small restaurant which was full with the tour bus passengers. There were not many other restaurants to choose from; we tried The Blue Coffee Pot and could not get any service, so we ended up at a McDonalds. I would not stay here again.

5 of 5  Very nice hotel, excellent value, A TripAdvisor Member, Victoria, BC, November 13, 2008

Thoroughly enjoyed our two nights at this hotel, the all-round nicest we stayed in during two weeks of touring the SW. When I checked the hotel's website in August, the November room rate showed at $115, but by the time I booked on line the morning of our arrival, it was only $71 (seniors rate). Not sure if prices were adjusted because of the economic downturn, though that didn't seem to have affected occupancy; there were only 12 rooms left when we checked in, and people kept arriving. Reception and restaurant staff were all friendly and professional, the room was comfortable and well equipped (inc. free wi-fi access) and the breakfast buffet was well above average -- bacon, egg and cheese baked biscuits one morning, sausage patties and mini-omelets the next, plus grapefruit segments, fresh fruit, hot and cold cereal, bagels and cream cheese, bread, delicious banana bread, danish and other sweet breads, coffee and juice. Also ate dinner there; nice food and reasonable price. Interesting display of hogans, etc., just outside hotel, Navajo code talker exhibit in adjacent Burger King, and twin-screen cinema in adjacent shopping centre (centre also has supermarket). Walked over and watched a Navajo comedy one night (Hollywood movies also showing).

5 of 5  Great place to stay for Monument Valley, A TripAdvisor Member, Central Valley, California, November 4, 2008

We booked two nights at the Hampton Inn at Kayenta as a central location to visit both Monument Valley and Navajo National Monument. The hotel was nicely appointed--we were sorry it wasn't cool enough for there to be a fire in the lobby fireplace! The staff was very friendly and helpful and arranged our Monument Valley private tour for the next day in about 2 seconds. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious. In over a week of touring through the desert of Arizona, this was by far the nicest place we stayed and one of the least expensive. I highly recommend this hotel--and the Navajo National Monument 40 miles southwest of Kayenta. (Hint: if you're a wine drinker, DON'T order the non-alcholic wine)

5 of 5  Make a reservation!, A TripAdvisor Member, Kentucky, October 19, 2008

We had an excellent experience at this hotel. I had selected this location based on Trip Advisor comments (thank you!), and was not disappointed. Check-in was efficient, the room was clean, fresh and quiet---I would suggest you ask for a room at the end of the hall next to the stairs, to ensure peace and quiet and to also have the stairs as an option because there was always a long wait at the elevators. This hotel was full (and probably is every night), meaning busy elevators and traffic in the hallway. But in spite of the potential for noise, I had the best night's sleep of the week at this hotel.

Breakfast at the buffet was very good. Some have complained about the smell of cigarettes in the rooms but I detected none.

This hotel is like an oasis no matter which direction you're arriving from, and I was amazed at the number of people turned away on the night of our arrival because they did not have a reservation. I know folks who check Trip Advisor before traveling don't need to be reminded of that, but at this oasis it's too important to not mention.

5 of 5  Good Choice, A TripAdvisor Member, London, September 28, 2008

Stayed here for 1 night after touring Monument Valley & found it a very comfortable hotel with a tastefully done , Southwestern themed dining area & gift shop. Staff were very friendly & I would recommend it to anyone.

5 of 5  Best Hotel in Monument Valley Area, A TripAdvisor Member, West Virginia, August 8, 2008

I expect a certain standard in Hampton Inn and was not disappointed. Although the room was a bit small, it had everything we needed. The pool was nice. The restaurant was fabulous - try the Navajo Taco. The pizzas were great too. Be prepared one pizza will feed two. The Taco will also feed two. Prices were average. The breakfast was outstanding. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. A 20 drive to Monument Valley but well worth it. There is nothing in Kayenta to do and it is DRY. Rather high on the price, but worth it in comparison to the other hotels in the area.

5 of 5  loved the decor and restaurant, A TripAdvisor Member, wellington,Floria, August 1, 2008

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 1 night while traveling around Arizona. I didn't know what to expect, I never heard of Kayenta. The reception was efficient and friendly, we were very early and returned later to pick up our key. The room was decorated in native furnishings, very clean and comfortable bed. The pool was nice, alot of chairs, but no shade (it was about 100 degrees). There was also and area to sit and relax with table and umbrellas. The lobby was beautiful, alot of native Navajo pictures and decorations. A nice gift shop was also within the lobby area. The best thing was the the dinner buffet, $16.95 per person, including soft drinks and dessert. Great salad bar, numerous food choices. The breakfast buffet was served in the same area as the dinner, tons of seating and a huge selection of food, as well as a great (24 hr.) coffee bar. I would definately recommend this hotel, and Kayenta is a good base for exploring Monument Valley and Navajo National Monument. Adriennepollack@yahoo.com

5 of 5  Great base for NW Arizona, A TripAdvisor Member, San Jose, CA, May 16, 2008

I have stayed in other Hampton Inn's before and always had a good experience. I this chose this location because it seemed like a good base and they would allow small pets and I travel with my small dog.

My 3 night stay exceeded my expectations. The hotel is very well maintained. The staff is friendly. I had dinner at the restaurant in the hotel the first night. I enjoyed the food (especially the Black Bean Soup) and the service.

As a base for exploring northeastern Arizona it worked out well as well with Monument Valley less than 30 min and Canyon de Chelly in an hour.

5 of 5  Exceptional in every way, A TripAdvisor Member, Atlanta, GA, May 5, 2008

Excellent base to explore Monument Valley, Gooseneck area of UT and easy drive to east entrance of Grand Canyon. Hotel was impeccably clean, effecient check in-out, competent and friendly staff, relaxed dining and hearty breakfast (included). Our room was exceptional: quiet, spotless, comfortable with extremely comfy mattress/pillows/linens. Free computer in lobby. Highly impressed with this hotel and will seek out Hamptons in the future based on this totally positive experience.

5 of 5  An oasis near Monument Valley, A TripAdvisor Member, FL, May 5, 2008

My son and I were on a 4-state, 1800 mile trek to visit Monument Valley, the Peterified Forest, the Grand Canyon, and get a few kicks along Route 66 as we made our way to Los Angeles. We needed a place to stay that would put us near Monument Valley. Choices are slim in that area, but we are glad that we chose to stay at the Hampton Inn Kayenta. A relatively new hotel, it still looks fresh, the rooms and public places were clean. The front desk, gift shop, and resturant staff were polite and most helpful. We bought T-shirts in the gift shop that we had seen elsewhere (but were cheaper here). We had a delicious dinner at the hotel restaurant. My son the cheeseburger was the best he had during our entire trip. The cheesecake was amazing! The room was what we expected -- roomy, clean and comfortable. We would recommend the Hampton Inn Kayenta to anyone coming to the Monument Valley area. It only took us 25-30 mintues to drive to the picturesque Valley from the hotel. What an incredible sight.

5 of 5  Highly Recommend, A TripAdvisor Member, Mississippi, May 2, 2008

Great stay at a better- than- most Hampton Inn...and I like Hampton Inns. Would recommend highly to travellers in the area. The value was excellent.

5 of 5  Great location with fantastic staff!, A TripAdvisor Member, High Wycombe, UK, April 26, 2008

If you are going to Monument Valley, then this is a brilliant place to stay. The staff are really friendly, polite and happy to help. Positioned just off the main road, the hotel is right next door to Burger King and McDonalds. However, don't let that put you off as the noise from the road is minimal to none. You can eat in the hotels restaurant or go to the afore mentioned fast food chains. Rooms and very comfortable. They are large, nicely decorated, with two double beds, air conditioning, TV and nicely sized bathroom. Shower pressure was a bit weak, but OK. Breakfast was buffet style, but unlike other well known hotel chains, the food was actually appetising and freshly made. Cereals, cold and hot food is available.

In summary, great location, really nice staff and a fantastic nights sleep.

5 of 5  Great place, A TripAdvisor Member, Myrtle Beach, April 14, 2008

Stayed here 3 nights, Very freindly staff, resturant in hotel is very good, Good base of operations for Monument Valley, 4 corners, and canyon de chelli, .

5 of 5  Tremendous Stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Johnston, Iowa, January 6, 2008

Dec 2007

Here is a hotel worth its worth. Everything was extremely clean, the service was spectacular, the meals were fantastic and tasteful. Their continetal breakfast was the best I have had. The accomdations were great.

We arrived here just before Christmas to sight see Monument Valley (22 miles away). I would stay here again. Our cost was $62.50 tax included for one night, we stayed two nights. This hotel is better than Best Western, and the Holiday Inn in the town.

5 of 5  lovely stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Charleston, SC, October 24, 2007

We stayed at the Hampton Inn on Oct. 9th on a brief tour through Monument Valley country and were very pleased. The staff is friendly and helpful, the rooms were spacious and clean - loved the mattresses, slept like the dead. The “continental” breakfast was ample and fresh. There is always coffee and tea available in the lobby, as well.

We ate supper in the hotel restaurant and it was good – nothing fancy, but tasty. Our waitress, Crystal (I believe), was a joy - such a pretty girl and very sweet.

For a large hotel chain, this was a good experience. The pool, that we didn’t have a chance to use, looked quite inviting. There were no surprises and no drama - just straight forward inn keeping.

I have stayed at Goulding’s when in the area previously, but I believe I’ll choose this Hampton again.

(FYI – there is a coffee shop a couple of doors down that is just great. I cannot remember the name, but I believe it is on the left when you turn into the parking lot for Basha’s grocery.)

5 of 5  Cool Oasis of calm and quality, A TripAdvisor Member, shropshire, September 30, 2007

We arrived along with a Harley Davidson Tour and feared the worst, but our registration was speedy, efficient and friendly. Hotel great in every way - very clean and comfortable rooms, evening meal yummy, breakfast complimentary and good. It's a real bonus to have fast free internmet access provided. Super all round.

5 of 5  Best in Kayenta, A TripAdvisor Member, Arizona, September 24, 2007

This is the best hotel in Kayenta. Free breakfast, free internet and a nice restaurant for dinner. Plus a gift shop. The rooms are spacious. It books up quickly so try and make your reservation as far ahead as possible. That should tell you something righ there.

5 of 5  Great for Monument Valley, A TripAdvisor Member, Glasgow, Scotland, September 19, 2007

We stayed at the Hampton Inn, Kayenta last week whilst visiting Monument Valley. We were a bit dubious about what we might be going to as I couldn't really find any reviews on the hotel, however we were so pleasantly surprised! It was a very new hotel, the rooms are lovely and comfortable, and clean. The bathrooms are large and have plenty of towels and spare toiletries should you need them. One thing I found particularly good was that when the main bathroom light went off, a small nightlight lit up for you to find your way to the bathroom during the dark - very useful and thoughtful we thought! The breakfast was good with plenty of choice, although I would have preferred that we had proper cutlery and plates, but I really can't fault them on it for that reason alone. The staff at reception were also very helpful. As for location, it is a 20 mile journey into Monument Valley, but really the scenery starts to get spectacular just as you leave Kayenta. I would definitely stay there again.

5 of 5  Great property to stay in Kayenta, A TripAdvisor Member, Europe, August 24, 2007

After a drive from Lake Powell, we arrived to the Hampton Inn in Kayenta. We stayed for 1 night only. Our room was nice, as most Hampton Inns are. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant and it was a decent meal, nothing special, but not bad either. As Kayenta is in Navajo Country, they do not serve any alcohol.

Free internet worked very well and the free breakfast was good.

I would recommend this hotel when in Kayenta.

5 of 5  Really great surprise!, A TripAdvisor Member, Austin, August 22, 2007

This hotel was the best of our entire 2 week driving trip staying in hotels in the $100-$150 range. The bed and bedding was new and so comfortable. It felt like being home. It was our best night sleep during the trip. The hotel is warm when you enter and it made us nervous about the temp of our room as my husband likes it cold. The room was warm when we entered, but cooled down quickly and was very comfortable all night. The decor is nice, clean & tasteful. The staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant was surprisingly decent for dinner and the continental breakfast was good and staff was constantly refreshing food and drink. Finding this great hotel in the middle of the desert was an odd (but fun!) experience. One of the most interesting parts of the experience was that we were some of the only American tourists in the place. It's incredible how travelers from all over the world find their way to this dusty little spot in the middle of the Navajo Nation.

5 of 5  Great Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Fairfax, VA, August 7, 2007

This is the nicest Hampton Inn we have ever visited, and we have visited a lot. It wasn't cheap, but many hotels in this zone we wouldn't even consider. We think it is owned by the Navajo Council: if so, they are doing themselves proud.

For breakfast, I ate on patio looking over incredible southwestern buttes.

4 of 5  Very good value, A TripAdvisor Member, Warrington Cheshire, November 15, 2008

Stayed here to do the Monument Valley experience. We couldn't get in at Gouldings Lodge which is nearer to the Valley. Kayenta is about 25 miles from the Valley but the road is good and it doesn't take long.

Hotel is Navajo run and very good it was too. Cosy welcoming reception area which was decorated with an autumnal flavour with pumpkins and straw men dotted around. Small gift shop on premises and you get a discount in the shop if you have your evening meal in the hotel.

Lift to all floors. Room very acceptable, clean, 2 big beds and functional bathroom. Guest laundry on premises. Plenty of free parking.

We ate dinner in the hotel's restaurant. Excellent buffet at a very reasonable price. Breakfast the next morning was included in the price of the room and was a very acceptable buffet. The restaurant is not big and it was quite busy when we were there so finding a table for 2 was not easy.

All in all I would have no hesitation recommending this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in the area.

4 of 5  Great Hotel - DRY, A TripAdvisor Member, Doncaster, United Kingdom, October 8, 2008

We spent the night of our wedding anniversary in this hotel the room was very nice and we ate in the restaurant, which was lovely - however we would have liked to have celebrated with drink!

I think that the fact that this hotel is on Indian reservation land - and therefore does not serve alcohol should be better publicised.

4 of 5  Good choice for Monument Valley, A TripAdvisor Member, Isle of Man, September 24, 2008

We were glad to arrive at the Hampton Inn after a long trip via Monument Valley from Cortez. It was a cool, quiet haven after the mayhem at the Monument Valley Visitor Centre! It is only a 20-25 minute drive into Kayenta and would say is really a very convenient stay in the area. We were still able to experience the sunset at Monument Valley by taking a tour - arranged after checking in with a company based in Kayenta - which picked us up at the hotel and dropped us off afterwards. We felt this was well worth doing, though not originally planned that way.

Our first floor room was exceptionally clean and comfortable and I would say had the most comfortable beds of our whole trip.

We had our evening meal in the hotel, for which there was quite a varied choice - there was also a hot buffet. Generous portions all round. Do try the Fry Bread with honey - mmmm. Breakfast was the usual buffet - but was served on plastic tableware, which we felt just let the hotel down slightly.

All the ladies in the hotel were very smartly dressed in what I thought to be a modern twist on traditional dress. Their silver and turquoise jewellery was also beautiful. (How can you tell I am a woman?) All staff were very polite and welcoming.

4 of 5  Great hotel, shame about Kayenta, A TripAdvisor Member, Cardiff, Wales, August 16, 2008

This was my first time in a Hampton Inn hotel and I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel seems to be run by the Navajo. The check in staff and dining room staff were friendly and helpful. The room was large with comfortable furniture and a great bed. Food in the hotel was very decent as Kayenta seems to be a town not worth much investigation. As a base for Monument Valley it is great but may suffer when the Navajo open their hotel in Monument Valley later this year.

4 of 5  Best spot to stay in Kayenta!, A TripAdvisor Member, Kitchener, August 8, 2008

Stayed at the Hampton Inn for one night on a visit to Monument Valley. Nice room -- friendly staff, even though they were full!

Breakfast the next morning was very good for a Hampton Breakfast with a nice patio area to retreat to for a quiet meal. This is the best choice in the area!

4 of 5  Great hotel, greta location, A TripAdvisor Member, Pulborough, United Kingdom, July 23, 2008

From the outside it looked worrying but once inside it changed our opinion. Nice room, good facilities, good food and friendly, local people. We even had some native american entertainment whilst eating dinner. Kids enjoyed the pool.

4 of 5  Warm and friendly staff, A TripAdvisor Member, Massachusetts, July 15, 2008

The restaurant staff offered us multiple options when we had a problem. The building and furnishings were in good condition. The complimentary breakfast was good too.

4 of 5  Very nice hampton, A TripAdvisor Member, NY, July 15, 2008

I have no idea what the previous reviewer was talking about. This is a typical hampton. Very nice decor in lobby, and room. The room was very clean, with comfortable bedding. They had the standard hampton continental breakfast, with a few hot items. There is a restaurant in the hotel, very unusual for a hampton, and I can't honestly say the food was good, but we were tired, and it didn't look like there was much in town, except for fast food, so it did the trick. The staff was very nice, and the manager in the restaurant went out of her way to speak with the diners. This hampton is the nicest in this small town, and I don't know what some people expect. Hampton Inns are not 4 star hotels, they are average places where you can usually know what to expect. I've only been in one hampton inn, that didn't meet the usual standards, and I did complain to Hilton, and was refunded all my hilton honors points for that horrible stay, but I can honestly say you have nothing to worry about when booking here. It's clean, modern, and the staff treated us with respect.

4 of 5  Very nice place to stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Dayton, OH, July 13, 2008

We selected the Hampton Inn simply by location, near Monument Valley, and were pleasantly surprised to find the hotel attractive and the service excellent. The restaurant provided some very good meals.

4 of 5  Good place to stop, A TripAdvisor Member, Guildford, Surrey, June 21, 2008

Used previous reviews to choose staying at the Hampton Inn and have not been disappointed at all. Have stayed at the Holiday Inn here previously but prefer the Hampton Inn. The room is lovely and big and I was worried that the 3rd floor would smell of smoke as other reviews had indicated - but it was totally smoke free ;o) Bed is extremely comfortable for a good nights sleep. The staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to help - marvellous! Great base to visit Monument Valley.

4 of 5  Great Base for Monument Valley, A TripAdvisor Member, Phoenix, May 29, 2008

The Hampton Inn was chosen as base camp for my recent trip to Monument Valley. The hotel was very clean and appeared to be well maintained. As a landscape photographer I am frequently on the road well before sunrise. I really appreciated that the coffee in the lobby is maintained around the clock, allowing me to have a couple cups of coffee before hitting the road. They even have a dark roast coffee that was very good.

The breakfast is a "hot breakfast" served as self serve. Both of the mornings I was there the hot portion consisted of biscuits, scrambled eggs (shaped like very small pancakes) and very mild sausage. They also had fruit, cereal, pastries, etc. All of the food was well prepared and while not gourmet, was tasty enough for the purpose. The pool was open but I didn't use it, the temperatures were still relatively cool and there was no hot tub or spa. The hotel offered free wireless internet connectivity, the signal in my room was adequate, while the signal in the comfortable lobby was excellent. The room was clean and well appointed. The shower used the typical low flow Water Pik massage head, not allowing the flow of water that I prefer but have come to expect in hotel settings. Heating and Air Conditioning are provided by a window unit, that could be noisy during the hottest portion of the year.

All in all, a very comfortable and affordable stay.

4 of 5  Excellent hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Vancouver, Canada, May 24, 2008

Given the limited number of hotels in the MV area this is as good a place as you could find. It seems to be a fairly new hotel and is very clean and the staff was quite friendly. A bus tour checking in the same time as we were meant a bit of a wait at check-in but they were very apologetic and friendly once we finally got our room. The room was very well appointed and we had no complaints with the bed or furnishings. There is a restaurant and gift shop near the lobby area and the hostess and wait staff were friendly and proficient. The meals were fine. The free breakfast was a bonus i wasn't expecting. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of other dining places(aside from a Burger King next door) in the area so this was a help.

One recommendation: phone ahead or make advance reservations. We saw a number of people being turned away on a Friday evening. As I said given the limited number of hotels this place probably fills up quick.

4 of 5  Great place to stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Derbyshire, UK, May 11, 2008

Had no prior experience of a Hampton Inn but booked this based on previous recommendations on TA. Was pleased we did. We debated booking Gouldings but were perfectly happy with our choice. Only stayed here for 1 night but would have loved to have stayed longer.

All staff were exceptionally friendly, hotel was modern and clean. Only downside was that everywhere you went in the hotel it was so hot! Room had aircon but was too noisy to sleep with it on.

Had an evening meal in the hotel restaurant and it was superb. Complementary breakfast was good too.

Definately look at staying here if you are in the area.

4 of 5  Great Staff, A TripAdvisor Member, England, May 5, 2008

I don't think the hotel can have been open for long as it seemed very new and clean.

Everything was beautifully presented, the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Bed was very comfy.

There wasn't much milk provided for the coffee but I am sure we could have had more if we had asked for it.

The hotel restaurant was excelent and again the staff were very good. N.B. because it is located on the Navajo reservation there is no alcohol served.

Breakfast was a buffet with a comprehensive choice available.

4 of 5  Oasis in the middle of nowhere, A TripAdvisor Member, Albany, April 25, 2008

We were on the road for over an hour seeing nothing before entering the small Navajo town of Kayenta and seeing the Hampton Inn looming large on the horizon.

There is very little before the town and very little after as you can see from the photo from my room looking west.

The hotel is about 1/2 hour South of Monument Valley, 2+ hours east of the far Eastern point of the Grand Canyon and just over an hour West of the four corners. It was a good stopping point on our large loop of Northern Arizona.

The hotel is run by the Navajo Nation. The front desk people were very friendly as were the gift shop clerk and breakfast room help.

Our room was very typical - 2 queen beds, desk, tv, large bath. No complaints.

Breakfast was typical Hampton Inn: Egg & Sausage patties with biscuits, cerals, yogurts, breads, muffins, juices, fruit and decent coffee. I have seen the same spread a every Hampton Inn I've stayed at and it is sufficient.

There was a tour bus of French tourists staying while we were there.

Overall it was what I expected and in no way disappointing. The Hampton chains seems to be pretty consistant.

4 of 5  An Oasis on the High Plains, A TripAdvisor Member, Texas, November 26, 2007

The property was a surprise on many fronts. We enjoyed the foyer seating area with blazing fireplace and dining area. The free breakfast had plenty of items for any appetite. The room was clean for the most part with the exception of a large stain on the carpet. The beds and pillows were incredible - comfort beyond description. Ample parking. An oasis on the high plains.

4 of 5  A Very Pleasant Place to Stay Near Monument Valley, A TripAdvisor Member, Garrison, NY, August 11, 2007

This is a beautiful Hampton Inn, certainly one of the best we've stayed at. Check in was quick and easy, and our room was very spacious and clean. Beds were quite comfortable. The restaurant in the hotel serves both the free breakfast and is also open for dinner. We couldn't have been more pleased with the food and service, especially for the price. Our tour guide at Monument Valley mentioned that it is her favorite restaurant in town. The pool area and patio are lovely - very clean and well-landscaped. Perhaps the only negative was that we wished we had a fridge in our room.

We would highly recommend the Keyah Hozhoni Tours run by Tom Phillips. I can't remember how much the tour was for the two of us, but Tom's daughter drove us all around Monument Valley, especially in the areas that are not open to the general public. We were in a comfortable Chevy Suburban, and she shared so many interesting facts with us. The tour lasted much longer than we had paid for - just great!

4 of 5  Very nice hotel, not the cheapest but worth it, A TripAdvisor Member, Carmel Valley, CA, July 27, 2007

Large, very clean, very well decorated with Native American accents. Nice room, largish, quiet, comfortable, good beds. Decent restaurant on site but not excellent. Attractive setting but dinner was moderately pricey and food was nothing special. Staff was fine. Pool, wireless, many other amenities. Paid $139/night. 25 minutes to Monument Valley.

Go right next door to the Burger King and see the Code Talkers display. Worth a visit.

4 of 5  Good stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Hampton, VA, July 20, 2007

We just stayed 1 night when we were seeing Monument Valley. It was a nice hotel. Lobby was very pretty & free breakfast was good. Our refrigerator was an extra $10 per night & broke, but they replaced it immediately and it was a large size. Room was very nice, clean & well decorated. This was a good choice for staying near Monument Valley.

3 of 5  Hotel is fine, but surprisingly expensive, A TripAdvisor Member, Lewes, United Kingdom, November 11, 2008

We stayed here one night as part of a driving vacation, travelling from Phoenix, AZ to Moab, UT. Having read other reviews of this hotel, I would say that we had a better experience than we expected. The few staff we encountered were polite and helpful, but it's not a place you would go for personal service. The hotel is located right beside a main highway, but we were not disturbed by traffic noise during the night and actually had a good sleep. We only used the restaurant for breakfast. The breakfast was fine, just the standard buffet this level of hotel provides across the whole of the USA. We would say the biggest problem with the hotel is the price. It was the most expensive night of the vacation - and this includes staying in a 5* hotel on the Strip in Las Vegas!!!

3 of 5  Beware the Tour Bus, A TripAdvisor Member, Chicago, IL, October 4, 2008

There aren't many hotels in this part of Arizona and so we decided to go with a known brand -- Hampton Inns. The room was fine, but the entire restaurant was taken over by several tour groups enjoying the buffet. My husband and I were seated before the tour groups came in and heard the hostess tell other hotel patrons, not with a tour, that they would have to go elsewhere for dinner as the entire dining area was reserved for the tour groups. The hotel is about an hour from Monument Valley and abouit a half hour from the Navajo National Monuement so it is convenient for touring those locations.

3 of 5  Clean and comfortable but food and service not so good, A TripAdvisor Member, Berkhamsted, August 30, 2008

The hotel is very convenienly located for our recent trip to Monument valley. Rooms were spacious and comfortable for our family (2 adults and 2 teenagers). Service in the restaurant was below average and the food was not great. There are not many hotels to choose from in the area but I would say that it was certainly adequate for a couple of nights.

3 of 5  Beware - this place is smoky, A TripAdvisor Member, Rochester, NY, June 9, 2008

We stayed here for one night while visiting Monument Valley. The hotel is very well maintained, and seems to be very popular for tourists. It is nicely decorated and there was even a Navajo playing the flute in the lobby. However, the entire third floor stinks of cigarette smoke. Even in the non smoking rooms, the smell was pouring in the door. We asked to be moved, but we got there after 7 so they didn't have any to change us to. We had to put a towel under the door just to keep the smell from coming in. Because of this, we would never stay here again.

3 of 5  Cigaretta Smell overwhelming, A TripAdvisor Member, Rochester, NY, June 9, 2008

This hotel was very nice, beautifully decorated with Navajo art and everything is clean and tasteful. The only bad thing is there are many smoking rooms, and especially on the third floor, some of those rooms are right next to non-smoking rooms, and the whole floor, even inside the closed rooms, smelled like cigarettes. We are allergic to smoke, so this was not a very pleasant stay. All hotels should be smoke free. We stayed in a Hampton Inn in Durango, Colorado during the same trip, and it is a totally smoke free hotel. What a difference! Nice clean air to breathe.

3 of 5  Best hotel near Monument Valley, A TripAdvisor Member, Boise, Idaho, April 2, 2008

This hotel was clean, and comfortable, nothing special, just what I expect in a hotel. They met all our needs, nothing more. No complaints here, but nothing outstanding either. They are doing a good job here.

3 of 5  More than I'd have liked to spend, but good accomodation, A TripAdvisor Member, November 14, 2007

Friendly welcome. Coach of 70 meant that we either waited over an hour for food or went elsewhere. This was disappointing as this was the first hotel we'd been to on our trip which included a restaurant. We ended up driving to the holiday inn for dinner. They had non-alcoholic beer which was a welcome placebo in the dry Indian reserve.

Room spacious though accidently booked a disabled room ("accessible") but I think most rooms were the same size. Very clean. Large pillows which were so massive I had to abandon them mid sleep. Quiet a/c.

2 of 5  Our Most Unpleasant Hampton Experience Ever :(, A TripAdvisor Member, Los Angeles, California, November 26, 2007

We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Kayenta, AZ for one night on our way from Flagstaff, AZ to Fruita, CO. We hold a high opinion of Hampton Inns, and were very disappointed with our experience at this location. The grounds were barren and unattractive. The hotel staff, though efficient enough, was less than friendly.

I was glad to find that they accept pets, but was disappointed that they only allow them in rooms with 2 double beds. Consequently, instead of just getting a rollaway bed for my teenager, we had to get one room with a king-sized bed for the tall person in our party, and another room that could accommodate our dog. Though I had called the hotel directly and requested the 2 rooms, they only had 1 of the rooms listed on our reservation when we arrived. Luckily, there was another available.

It may appeal to some, but I found the Native American-themed furnishings kitschy for a Hampton. We were only given 2 towels and 1 wash cloth. They provided us with a bottle of shampoo, but no conditioner. The air in the rooms was unbearably dry, so my companion and I had a terrible night of sleep.

The hotels are few along that corridor, but if we do the trip again, we will either drive straight through or try the Holiday Inn across the street from the Hampton.

1 of 5  Terrible Hampton Inn, A TripAdvisor Member, den haag, July 1, 2008

Terrible!!

The cooperation of the staff was beneath every standard, food was good if you like to get BIG and the room was ok.

If you stay in this area there are only 2 places to go;

- Gouldings Lodge at the entry of Monument Valley

- Lee Ranch in the Valley of the Gods, for the nature lovers

Don't want to be one of those who only have bad comments on things but combined with depressive Kayenta this stay might get you depressive..

The surroundings with Monument Valley, Valley of the Gods and Canyon the Chelly are one of the most incredible nature outings i've ever seen although never go to the Hampton Inn and Kayenta unless you have no other option!

Sorry Hampton Inn.

Take care,

Nicolaas

1 of 5  Not so Great, A TripAdvisor Member, CINCINNATI, July 26, 2007

I've just completed a 2 week tour of the southwest with my 2 teenagers. We stayed at many different hotels though out our trip, but this was by far the most frustrating & disappointing hotel we stayed in. The first room we stayed in was Extremely hot, I tried working with the A/C unit, but eventually gave up. In the middle of the night , the unit stopped working completely. I left a note for houskeeping the next morning to check the unit & clean the air filter. When we came back from our Monument Valley tour, the temp in the room was the same, HOT. So we decided to go to the pool. The water temp in the pool actually made the 98 degree heat outside seem cool! It was like swimming in a HOT TUB. Finally, I decided to do some laundry. Nice idea, this hotel had only 1 Washer & dryer and people were lining up their bags of laundry to wash. I went to the front desk to ask if there was a laundromat in town, and was told yes it was in the shopping center next door. Think they could have told me it closes at 6pm? With the prospect of spending several hours in a sweltering room, I went back down to the front desk to complain. They offered me another room, which I accepted, but what an inconvienence moving all our belongings to another room for one night. Oh & did I mention that our key cards didn't work. It would have been nice to offer me a discount on my room, but they did not. I will be writing to Hampton Home office later this week. Overall , this hotel is poorly managed, and they don't really seem to care. Stay some where else!
