Atlantic Hotel Vegesack

We just spent three nights here between Christmas and New Year's. We were visiting relatives in the north end of Bremen, an area known as Vegesack. The Hotel Atlantic is very conveniently located beside the main shopping street in this part of the city, as well as the small harbor (featuring a tall ship used for training by the German navy) and to the local train station (trips to downtown Bremen take 15-20 minutes). The staff was very friendly and check-in and check-out went quickly. We stayed in a double room for Euro 75 (including a continental breakfast, sometimes with bacon and eggs in the buffet). The room was well maintained, clean and modern, and relatively spacious. There is underground parking for Euro 6 a night. We had to leave earlier in the morning than originally expected and, although the dining room wasn't open in time to serve us, the staff prepared "lunch boxes" for us to take along. All in all, a solid hotel in a pleasant part of Bremen. Well worth a positive recommendation.

We stayed here for one night in August 2007 - we paid extra for a "room with river view" - we had a very acceptable room - and we could see the river (just) over the roofs of the intervening houses. Next morning it was too foggy to see anything and we were woken by the fog-horns from the river.

We had trouble fnding the hotel as we were looking along the river front. When we finally found the hotel we were initially disappointed - but the internal decoration is much better than outside.

The restaurant was not available (website misleading again) - so we ate in the nearby Tinto Tapas bar in Alte Hafen Strasse -this was excellent and to be recommended.

Be warned that restaurants/banks in this part of North Germany seem to only accept cards with EC on them, not Visa or Mastercard. We had some trouble finding a cash machine where we could obtain Euros on our Visa debit cards.

Rooms were clean and breakfast good, garage secure.

We would happily stay here again.
