5 of 5  great holiday, A TripAdvisor Member, ireland, November 18, 2008

My family and i stayed at the above for 1 week all inclusive in august of this year, after reading such horror stories regarding this hotel we almost cancelled our holiday but i am so glad we didnt. We stayed in the nogal beach annex and our apartment was in between the pool and bar having 2 young kids this was ideal as we didnt have to go to far for fun or for eating. We found the apartments clean with maid service everyday and the pool area very clean. The kids enjoyed the evening shows and the first choice kids entertainers excellant. The food in the hotel had a lot of choice although there was mostly chips with everything but we found quite a lot of food which didnt require eating chips.ps the pasta,s great.

5 of 5  BRILLIANT, A TripAdvisor Member, staffordshire, October 6, 2008

we have just returned from our holiday in tenerife i can honestly say we have never enjoyed ourselves so much on 1 holiday the kids club was amazing (AMON) ha ha the entertaiment staff were also very good and they all worked very hard our room was very clean we were on floor 335 and the maid came in every day for clean towels and every other day for clean bedding she was a complete star. The food was very good and the staff in the restaurant were very pleasant and polite, the entertainment at night was superb they tried their best to get everyone up and dance some more than others, i had a few bad heads to say the least!!!!! Our son (7 year old) never tended to join in on any kids club where we have been but he did here and he did enjoy himself. We were quite anxious when we read the reviews, but we had a brilliant holiday well done to u all. JEN,NAT, CHLOE, THE GORGEOUS STEWART. ALSO WELL DONE TO AMAN LOREN EMMA JAMES NIKKI JESS. So sorry if i havent mentioned you but u were all very good. BABS & SUNSHINE SARA should be very proud of you all. x x x x x DEBBY JASON & JACOB. x

5 of 5  Absolutely Fantastic!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Grimsby, June 24, 2008

Having read previous reviews on this hotel, we were hesitant to say the least before going on holiday.

On arrival we were pleasantly surprised with the hotel being clean and well looked after, with the staff both efficient and pleasant.

We got allocated our apartment and it was in the older part of the hotel, which as pointed out before is not 4 star but it was clean, the beds were comfortable and the patio was a sun trap, what more do you need?

The food was lovely, in fact i daren't go on the scales since i got back because of the sheer quantity i consumed!. There was also burgers, toasties etc available for in between times, which we washed down with plenty of free drink.

The kids and me like to keep busy and there was always something organised, from football to water polo but my wife was quite happy lazing by the pool.

I must confess i soon got into the 7.30 sunbed club!.The tiles around the pool could be slippery but as we were all aware of this we had no problems with them.

We had no problems at all with theft or cleaners however we did get a safe on the first day anyway.

Entertainment was absolutely fantastic with Jen, Nat, Chloe and Stuart working themselves to death to provide non stop entertainment and fun which we looked forward to every night.

This was our first visit to tenerife and we are already looking to book for next year, unfortunately First Choice/Thomson have pulled out of this hotel for next year, much to our dismay as we can say it was the best holiday we have had yet!

5 of 5  !!!!!!!Read This Before Booking!!!!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Hereford, United Kingdom, May 27, 2008

I was very wary on arrival having read one or two not so good reviews about this hotel. When we arrived at the Hotel, we were through reception, wearing our all inclusive bands, and in our room within 10 minutes....Faultless....

The room was exactly how i thought it would be. Fairly spacious, very clean and airy. No complaints at all. The food was very good also, they varied the menu as often as you would like. So it didn't get repetative and boring. The drinks were all very nice and on tap as you would imagine for all inc. The pool area was very nice, the only thing there is that people do reserve the sun loungers very very early. You have to have your towels out by at least 7am.....Not perfect seeing as your on holiday, but there you go. The hotel is well positioned, only a short walk to the beach if you want to go there. Plenty of nice shops on route. The staff are very helpull. i went with first choice, excellent staff.

All in all i would glady go back again tomorrow.

5 of 5  First class Holiday A*****, A TripAdvisor Member, Birmingham, April 18, 2008

WE have just returned from this holiday to Ocean Resort and it was fantastic. I was a little wary as I have never been here before and reading some of reviews I thought oh no! But what a surprise Hotel rooms lovely ,staff excellent, entertainment good, food excellent especially the english breakfasts , lovely safe pools, overall view A******** for complete package. We will be returning next year as Kids loved it.

5 of 5  loved it 'again', A TripAdvisor Member, Devon, March 20, 2008

We have stayed at this hotel 4 times over the last 7 years and everytime we have been we have loved everyone of them! It is the perfect hotel for children, our daughter age 13 and our son age 10 said ' its the best hotel we have ever been to!'

The food...we were all-inclusive and although after 2 weeks it does get a bit repetative everyone ate well.

The accomadation...We have noticed over the years that the rooms could do with a little TLC but however they are cleaned everyday but over all nothing major to complain about.

The entertainment...The entertainment and the Reps did a very good job with all the kids and amusing the adults. The reps and entertainers put some very good shows on which were enjoyed by all ages.

One of the main reasons why we would go back there is because we have found that the pool temperature is warm compared to all the other holtels we have stayed at.

We would recomend this hotel to all families who want a good value for money holiday, however it may not be suitible for people who want a bit of peace and quiet or a child free zone!

5 of 5  love this hotel...., A TripAdvisor Member, Lisburn, Northern Ireland, January 12, 2008

my husband , myself and our 2 children age 13 and 10 have stayed at this hotel for the last 3 years in a row at Easter and are going back again this year also. we absolutely love it, each year when we go its been all the same staff in the reception, bar (Nacho the cocktail waitor is fantastic) and restaurant and they couldn't be more friendly and helpful. There is plenty of space around the pool area and theres no need to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve your sunbed as there are plenty for everyone. The first choice reps are all very friendly and work long hours, the shows in the entertainment lounge are very good and the atmosphere is brill. It is very family orientated and each year we have made some new friends as did the kids. Costa Adeje area is lovely, its a about a 20 minute stroll into las Americas but there was enough for us to do in Costa Adeje, the market is just down the road and is on 2 days a week. we were All Inclusive which was great value for money, I have read some of the other reviews about the food not being very nice, I know people like different things but we loved the food, we have stayed in other hotels where the food has not been good but for me there was a fab choice every day, chinese, indian, Italian, even roast dinner with yorkshire pudds on a sunday. we stayed for 2 weeks and they did not serve the same thing twice. theres always something for everyone. the only negative would be that sometimes at peak times the water for the bath/shower was cool as everyone in the hotel was using it at the same time. and there was some loose wooden tiles at the walkway across the pool which would need fixed in case someone trips and gets hurt on them. we are looking forward to returning again this Easter, cant wait.....

4 of 5  Too much bad press - actually had a lovely time!, A TripAdvisor Member, Brighton, August 27, 2008

We have just returned yesterday 26/08/2008, and I vowed I would come back to this to leave comments.

We were dubious to say the least upon reading the reviews on this before we went. Well my comments follow (for what they are worth LOL).......

1. Hotel staff great, room cleaned daily, rep (Babs) very good when you can get passed the feeling of being shouted at - just her way.

2. Yes, granted hotel a little tired and could do with a make over - but seriously not that bad - lets remember we are on a family package holiday - you get what you pay for - the same with the food - it is not that bad!!! You have sun, drink and snacks all day....

3. The only major problem with the hotel - is the common, nasty chavs. The type who can not say please or thank you and bark at the pool staff serving drinks! moan about everything, the people who leave kids to roam (you know the type), the rubbish strewn about at night I cannot believe people can leave it in such a state - I am ashamed to be British at times (god knows what the cleaning staff must say about us) - you don't see the Germans behaving like that!

Oh and the people getting up at 5.00 in the morning to put towels out - the same type who leave the kids to roam so they can sit in the sun, and whilst I think of it the type who 'get it' on with a stranger in public while the child is roaming and crying - YUK.....

4. The resort itself is lovely.

5. The kids club staff are brilliant. My daughter loves James (lol) - great - my kids went three times just to give us some time - but they really enjoyed it so I did not feel guilty about leaving them.

6. Met some lovely people.

Give it a chance!!!! we did and loved the trip!

4 of 5  AVERAGE JOE, A TripAdvisor Member, LONDON,ENGLAND, June 15, 2008

the hotel is properly a three star in my eyes but worth the money u pay for it .Room was nice and clean i would only recommend a week tho due to the lack of varaity of food in the the buffet resturant and location, all tho taxis are cheap and on hand. The hotel is great for kids as the reps all ways go out there way to keep the kids involved.Swimming pool was very cold and floor area around pool slippery kids falling over all the time,The pool bar opens about eleven which is a bit late in my eyes if you are use to all-inclusive in the carribean then this will not be for you but like i said you only get what you pay for.

4 of 5  Fantastic For Families, A TripAdvisor Member, Tamworth, May 1, 2008

Booked with First Choice All Inclusive, with 2 adults and 2 young kids. We had a fab holiday. The kids loved the clubs and discos. The entertainment team could not be faulted. They worked hard all day long, and the kids were sad to leave.

The hotel itself is a comfortable 3 star. The rooms are clean, but a little tired around the edges. The food choice is fairly limited, but was of good quality. They did try to vary the food with different themes, but would be a bit boring if you were there for a fortnight. I wouldn't go self catering here though, as there is very little in the way of restaurants nearby.

The resort is aimed at families, plenty of daytime activities, not really for people without kids. The hotel staff we friendlly and helpful. The whole place was cleaned well, including daily around the pool area. The pool can be slippy inside, so you need to watch the depth changes, as the slopes were quite steep! The toddler pool was quite nice for the little ones, small and shallow enough for you to stand and watch.

Didn't venture very far, unless on excursions, free food to tempting to make us leave!

If you go to the beach with little ones, go to the far end of Torriviscas Playa, (by MacDonalds) as there are free toilets and an outdoor shower area, useful if your kids get as dirty as mine!

Loro Parque is worth visiting with kids the shows are great, it's a fair coach trip (about 1 1/2 hours).

We'd love to go back again if we can afford it!

4 of 5  Good - but not 4 star, A TripAdvisor Member, Hants, April 16, 2008

I booked this 4 star hotel expecting 4 star. Sadly, I would only rate this hotel a good 3 star.

On arrival there was only one person on reception, so we had to queue to check in and could not pay for a safe until the next morning, so it was dump the cases and find the restaurant as we were starving.

We took our cases to the room - we had a suite (use that term loosely) in the Ocean Palace part of the hotel. The room was fine, but noisy as it overlooked the football pitch.

The restaurant was another matter..... small, very busy and I certainly did not expect plastic chairs, paper table cloths and plastic cups (unless you were drinking alcohol) in a 4 star hotel. The food itself was fine - not a huge choice, but I would say something for everyone, but not top class.

There were 2 other restaurants and you were allowed one visit in each per week. However, they were only open twice a week and if you hadn't booked the day before by about 09:00am you had no chance. None of this is clear from the brochure.

Cleanliness, staff, reps etc. are good - but to be honest, I felt like I was in the cast of a Tenerife version of "Benidorm" - it was all a bit like Butlins Abroad. Entertainment is a bit "holiday campish" as well.

Lunch is like a "bunfight" as there are nowhere near enough chairs to tables. I suggest going up to the food area early with a book and a drink and bag your table until the food is ready to be served - otherwise you'll end up eating around 2:30pm or on your sunbed.....

Location of the hotel is good and you can have a nice walk to the beach front / shopping areas. If you want perfume - it is much more expensive in Tenerife, so I would suggest you get it at Gatwick.

If you go to Teide, be warned, the cable car cost us 60€ for 2 adults and 1 child and you do not get to go to the top. For this, you need a permit which has to be obtained in Santa Cruz (I think) before you go. You cannot get a permit at Teide. We were were not aware of this and therefore were disappointed. We still enjoyed the trip though as it is an experience.

My final warning is about Aqualand. Use the 5€ discount ticket you'll get from the rep - we paid 66€ for the 3 of us and then found when we got there you then had to pay for sunbeds (4€ each ) and also another 10€ for a rubber ring otherwise you can't go on all the slides - something we wish we'd been aware of as we didn't take loads of money with us. Also, safes are about another 6 €. Expensive day when you add it all up and that's without eating or drinking We took a picnic from the hotel - a tip, make your own at breakfast and add it to the ones from the reception as the hotel ones are not very good.

Still - it wasn't all doom and gloom. Weather was great and we did chill out, but I didn't feel that I got £1300 worth.......

Wouldn't recommend it to a friend.....

4 of 5  Back Again!, A TripAdvisor Member, Dundee, United Kingdom, April 9, 2008

We have just come back from a week at the Ocean Palace Resort Hotel, we were there this time last year and had a reasonably positive experience so went back again this year for our easter break. Via the First Choice website we booked a two bed appt as there were 5 of us (2 adults 3 children 8,9&10) this accomodation is in the hotel annex which is adjecent to the main hotel building. In fact we had the exact same room allocated as last year - anyway - This part of the hotel is deffinately a lower star rating than the hotel itself, probably 3 max, but we found the accomodation to be clean and fit for purpose. Again we chose the all inclusive option this year - but this was a real disappointment. We felt that the food last year was bland but in the main there was something for everyone. This year the standard and choices were far lower and there was more than one evening where we found that at least one of us went hungry!!!! There were only really a couple of negatives to this holiday the food as detailed above and the pool area!! Last year you could make your way to the pool area after breakfast and secure beds no bother although there are no where near enough umbrellas available for everyone, this year however it would appear that to stand any chance of having somewhere to soak up the rays you had to be up before daylight. Hotel staff and reps discouraged this but didn't really do a lot to deter people from doing it - in fact it all got a little silly with people arguing, throwing towels in the pool and just taking umbrealls from unattended beds! One man complained that his towels had been moved from the sunbeds he had 'reserved' at 5.30am!!!!!! Apparently in high season the beds are chained up at night and released 9am ish. I think this is something that should be considered all year round. Whilst we were there the hotel was full and we felt that this just created unnecessary pool side tension. The area around the pool is still very slippery and dangerous and is commented on in a lost of posts for this hotel.

Postives were that the childrens entertainment was flawless with something for everyone all day long. The resort is lovely and very clean and well worth exploring. Would we go back again next year? If we could stop our children from arguing - then yes.

4 of 5  good trip!, A TripAdvisor Member, manchester, February 26, 2008

Got bak on friday after a great 10 days at the ocean resort. Have stayed here before early last summer but was dissappointed with how much it had changed.....Wether it because it is out of the 'busy' season or it just could not cope with the influx due to the english half term?! Service was good but there was less staff than last time and they all seemed a bit overworked!!

Food was of a good quality and usually a good range to choose from. Pool area still slippy...come on guys fix it!! Still have the security guards try to make you go to bed at midnight..thank god for veronicas!

Disco bar..well quite frankly unless u have kids i just dont see the point of it all, after a few drinks we usually left and went out of the hotel or too the irish bar for a few drinks. Barman in there was great, very fast and nearly always rememberd your drinks!! Did notice a few members of the bar staff gettin friendly with some girls drinking in the bar....quite typical of that kinda job i suppose..perks of the job!! mind u i wudnt have said no to one of them!!

Again we found the first choice staff to not be very friendly and they all appear to have changed!! They did good work keeping the children entertained in the evening but none of them seemed very approachable....wasnt a problem for us though as we booked through a different website and not through that travel company.

room was always left spotless, had heard rumours of the maids not bein great lately and things goin walkies but we had no probs at all.

All in all had a great holiday, just a few bits i would reccommend changing..dont make ppl go to bed at midnite (altho to be fair i can understand it is quite a ''family'' hotel so young children wud be in bed and awoken by drunken ppl)...make sure there is always toilet paper in the loos and all the doors are fixed!! and maybe make some of the evening entertainment more adult orientated!!

4 of 5  Good for a 2nd year, A TripAdvisor Member, Kent, February 25, 2008

Two adults and two children (girl of 7 and a boy of 4) stayed for a week at The Ocean Resort. We got home on Friday 22nd February 2008. This was the second year running we’ve stayed at this hotel all inclusive in one of their two bedroom apartments which was plenty big enough. We never had problems with water pressure or lack of it; the apartments are through reception and over small foot bridge from the hotel which is probably why. The apartments are also away from the main pool, it is quieter, cooler and breezier than the main hotel. The apartments do have two pools of their own which are freezing at this time of year as was the Jacuzzi on the roof of the hotel!

The food like last year was great and cooked properly, we really enjoyed ourselves. Scrambled eggs tasted a bit funny though. And the deserts seemed to be the standard Canarian misc sponge with different coloured topping, all tasting just about the same! You get breakfast and dinner in the buffet restaurant and lunch is outside if the weather is fine, but they will put lunch inside the restaurant if the weather is rubbish. Unfortunately we had a couple of days of rubbish weather. In fact it rained for the last two days of our holiday, but I still got a tan for the other 5 days.

We had our one meal in the carvery restaurant which we enjoyed. But unfortunately 8.45am was too late the day before to book the Italian restaurant. You can only book these two restaurants the day before. People must have been up at dawn to book the Italian that week!

The First Choice kids club was as usual fantastic for the kids. They thoroughly enjoyed it. That meant we got a break which is why we went. But I would say check with the kids reps for the times that the mini disco starts. The information board said 8.30pm. We turned up at 8.30pm on the first night we went to find that it was just finishing. It actually starts at 8.15pm and that particular night it finished early. I was fuming and my daughter was in tears. The cocktails at that bar are not included in the all inclusive package. They cost 6 euros. (Never went to the Irish bar) For adults the kids mini disco is best faced with a few rum and cokes inside you as the reps are really keen in getting the adults involved. I’d sooner sit that out frankly. It’s a kids disco, if I wanted to make an idiot of myself, I’d stay up late enough to go to the one that finishes at almost midnight. We didn’t stay for anything other than the parrot show one night as we’re not interested in a quiz or bingo, which on the other nights were the two things that followed the kids mini disco. The entertainment doesn’t start until about 10pm. I was asleep by then let alone the kids!

About the only bad thing I can say about the place is be careful around the pool side. When the floor is wet it’s VERY SLIPPERY. In fact my son couldn’t walk down the slope at the front of our apartment without slipping over when it was raining, it was just like an ice rink. Kids were flying all over the place in the wet. Saying that though, apart from when it rained towards the end, it seemed that the people who were dripping water everywhere last year around side of the pool where lunch is served weren’t there this year, but you’ve still got to go really careful.

One thing I will say is that without the kids club there’s not an awful lot around for the kids to do. Mine are not interested in playing pool or darts or football which are mainly for the older kids. The two play areas are really for preschool kids only as they are equipped with small plastic playground stuff. The pools are freezing as I’ve already said so you can’t spend all day in them. Other than Aqualand the hotel is a bit out of the main resort. (We did a water park in Fuerteventura last year and were unimpressed.) So you’d be looking to go on excursions for the week, and that frankly can be hard work, and we go for a rest not to march around an animal park rushing around from one animal show to the next trying to get there in time for the start of the show. (Again did that on Fuerteventura last year – very tiring!)

So the thing is, on returning to the UK, I looked up the Ocean Resort on the First Choice web site with a view for booking it for the February half term 2009. Now the web site says the kids club isn’t there next year and it is the main thing that we go out there for. So we’ve booked to go somewhere else instead. The brochure on the other hand says there is a kids club in 2009, but that could have been printed months ago. The web also says that no cash will be used at the hotel in 2009 and that for the bars and shop you’ll have to open an account when you check in and it all gets billed to that account. I’m more inclined to believe the web site over the brochure as there was evidence of new management in the hotel this year.

We would go back again, but only if they had the First Choice kids club. Due to the confusion we’ve booked a week at the First Choice Sun Tropical Holiday Village in Lanzarote instead – it’s guaranteed to have a kids club!

3 of 5  really enjoyed ourselfs, A TripAdvisor Member, walsall, January 18, 2009

WE stayed at the ocean resort hotel for 2 weeks in may as a family of 4 2 adults and 2 children we had a fantastic holiday . we stayed in the nogal apartments but had wished we were staying at the hotel . they were very basic and had a shower in cold water most of the holiday. but that didnt spoil things the reps were fantastic and very hard working. and my daughter loved the kids club and mini disco. we were thinking of rebooking for the year after .but were told that first choice were not renewing there contract.

3 of 5  not half bad, A TripAdvisor Member, england, September 25, 2008

we have just returned from ocean resort hotel and we had a good holiday, the hotel is good not great dont expect 4* though, it is tired and needs updating and decorating especially the communal areas. we stayed in a superior suite room which was ok a very large living and dining/kitchen area, good size bathroom and bedroom. there was a couple of ittle problems with the room like the floor was lifting in the bedroom, dining chairs looked like they'd seen better days and overall the furniture was looking rather old. There was plenty of food lots of choice, although the puddings were the same everyday but just different flavours!! general organisation was a bit disorganised there was nothing to tell you opening times of snack bar, where to get ice creams just small things that you had to find out from other guests. my 3 yr old loved the kids club. swimming pool was cold and i would agree that all the pools need a good clean. didnt have a problem getting sunbeds although lots were broken (but still useable) entertainment in eve was quite good even if it was run by a group of 18yr olds! dont bother booking trips go on your own most places run free buses and taxis are quite cheap. we had a good stay but suppose your holiday is what you make it!

3 of 5  Not a bad Hotel, but more a 3* than a 4*., A TripAdvisor Member, Pogo86, September 3, 2008

I went to Ocean Resort Hotel in February 2008. We went for 1 week all inclusive and were expecting a 4* Hotel. This was the first time i had been all inclusive but it wasnt the first time for my partners family who we travelled with. We had superior rooms , which were nice and sapcious with a seperate sleeping area and a HUGE bathroom and a decent sized fridge. The balconies we had were more like terraces, they were massive and had large walls either side so were nice and private. My sister-in-law had 3 children in her room with her and they had plenty of room. One thing we did have to complain to reception about was that our shower head was broken so didnt work, by the time we returned from the pool that afternoon, it was all fixed so that was fantastic.

The food was nice, but not a very large selection. For a week this was okay but may get a bit boring for 2 weeks. We all managed to find something each night. Burgers and Hot dogs were served most the day and a nice selection of salads etc were served at lunch time. Ice creams are available all day too.

The entertainers worked very hard, although the entertainment was a little bit to be desired.

The location was okay, can get a taxi to the local water park or to Playa de Las Americas for a few euros so not too bad. Hotel is in walking distance to the beach and restaurants and shops!!

All in all it was pleaseurable visit... just dont expect 4* standard if you are used to 4* hotels.

3 of 5  Dont believe everything you read!, A TripAdvisor Member, Essex, August 31, 2008

Having read so many bad reviews about this hotel we wondered what we were letting ourselves in for! First of all let me say that the First Choice team were fantastic, they worked hard and were always pleasant and friendly, every day Jenny, Chloe and Natalie walked past our appartment and always said hi, whatever time of day or night. We stayed in the Nogul annex and we loved it. The pool area was a lot quieter than the main one, our room was at the end of the block and we had our own patio area with sunbeds which meant we could go back in the room easily. We only saw 2 cockroaches in the room and as Tenerife is known to have lots this didnt surprise us.Make sure you lock all your money and valuables in the safe as we had some English money taken out of a purse in a bag in the bedroom that we had forgoten was in there, we dont really know who took it or when it was done so beware. The food was just typical all inclusive, not brilliant but certainly eateable and definately not greasy or rubbery! There was a lack of staff and they could have done with another person serving in the snack bar and in the evening bar.The evening shows by the entertaiment team were really good and they always gave it their all, especialy Stuart. We didnt think much to outside shows e.g. the parrot show, Eagle show etc being repeated every week, who wants to watch them twice, especially the grumpy woman from the Eagle show. All in all we had a great holiday and I dont know where some of the people who wrote some of these terrible reviews were staying but it certainly wasnt where we were! Some people are never satsified!

3 of 5  Dont expect too much, A TripAdvisor Member, Wales, August 20, 2008

As a party of 8 adults and children on all inclusive we were dubious after

reading some of the reviews. Im no critic but here goes... Approx 40 minute

coach transfer from the airport. Helpful reception staff. Great hard working

childrens entertainers throughout the whole day. Rooms not very toddler friendly

(steps from bedroom to living/kitchen area) Cleaners were fab and kept the rooms

tidy. Take flip flops/Crocs or something similar for around the pool area as it

is very very slippy. At breakfast there was a wide variety of food available and

in its plenty. Lunch was just snacks chips burgers pizzas hot dogs. evening

meals .... were greasy and tasteless. waiting staff rushed off there feet and

dont have time to let you finish your meal before they take your plate away. No

selection of vegetarian options. drinks and ice-creams were fab all day, if you

didnt mind the queueing and waiting for the one bar staff to serve the whole of

the poolside. toddler pool was filthy and I wouldnt have washed my dog in it.

Approx 10 minute walk to the shoppin centres 15 minutes walk to the beach. It is

an uphill walk back.although the taxi's are only a few euros. The building itself seems to be suffering from some neglect and could do with a touch of modernising.

3 of 5  Nice One, A TripAdvisor Member, London, April 25, 2008

Stayed at the Ocean Resort Palace April 2008, after reading some of the reviews I was very sceptical about staying here, but it was too late all had been booked.

I am an extremely fussy person, where as my partner will shack anywhere, but I have to say we both had an enjoyable stay, including my 12 year old son who had a whale of a time.

The hotel is clean but where they let themselves down is the attention to detail e.g no soap, toilet paper in communal toilets on a number of occasions, no spreads on the beds, no mattress protector just one sheet to lay on one to cover with a blanket. Some of the doors do not close properly e.g bathroom wardrobe etc. Had a leaky fridge in bedroom bit rusty. Had a safe but had to pay 25euros to use. Had satellite TV but had to pay 3euros a day. No iron. For these reasons I would say it borders on being a four star but it is by no means a bad or uncomfortable hotel.

The other very important thing is this hotel has a sisiter hotel next door and a lot of people had booked the Ocean Resort Palace but ended up in this 2/3 star Nogle hotel next door. Although they were able to use all the facilites there were a lot of disgruntled people, that felt cheated. I think this maybe where all the confusion lies regarding the bad reviews.

The foyer, grounds, and pool area are very nice always enough sun beds. The english breakfast and pancakes etc very good spoilt for choice , although the evening meals were well presented did not find the choice as good.

The staff extremely friendly and accomodating. The entertainment is good with excellent first choice reps who round up the kids every day leaving you free to relax by the pool etc Definately a family hotel with lots to do for the kids.

All in all a good hoilday, excellent location.

3 of 5  Not 4 Star, A TripAdvisor Member, Yorkshire, April 17, 2008

Just returned from a weeks all inclusive hol in this hotel. Firstly, although we had a good time, in our opinion it is not a 4 Star hotel, and no where near the standard that we have experienced in other 4 star hotels. Paper table cloths, plastic chairs and paper napkins in the main restaurant on an evening is not a 4 star hotel. Bar service especially in the pool bars is poor, more often than not there was only one member of staff serving, rushed off their feet and we waited up to 30 minutes in a queue on many occasions - not how I really want to be spending my holiday.

The food quality is good though a bit repetitive- lots of chips! - but there is plenty of choices of meats and salads etc.

Lunch time food is served outside, but was again very busy and we often struggled to get a table to sit down and eat as people use the table and chairs to sit at to sunbathe as there was not always enough sunbeds to go round- yes the usual towels on sun beds at dawn goes on here and it tends to be a case of if you cant beat em, join em!.

The pool area at the Nogal Apartments side is a bit quieter, but again a long wait at the bar for food and drinks. One member of staff has to serve all the drinks, and also prepare and cook the food, very understaffed again, no wonder they never seem to look very happy.

We had a one bed apartment located in the annexe known as the Nogal side, which as the brochure states is 3 star accomodation. This block we felt was in need of a majot refurbishment, the rooms are dated, look tired and have seen better days.

Entertainment is good, the reps work really hard and put in a lot of effort. The constant reminders from the entertainment team to tick the excellent box for entertainment on your holiday questionnare "to ensure they all keep their jobs" can become wearing though, a couple of mentions would suffice guys- we can see the effort you put in.

All in all we enjoyed our hol, weather was great, and we got what we paid for, but dont expect 4 star luxury or you will be disappointed.

3 of 5  Not bad, A TripAdvisor Member, London, United Kingdom, April 16, 2008

Got back from the Ocean Resort this morning, following a week long stay. We went All Inclusive, which turned out to be a bit of a mistake.

If you're going to Tenerife and staying in the Costa Adeje/Playa de las Americas/Los Cristianos area, then I would advise against going All Inclusive full stop. There are so many bars and restaurants nearby, all competing for your business. I was able to get a full english breakfast and a pint of locally produced beer for 3 Euros at a beachfront bar. If you're coming to the Ocean Resort, going all inclusive wouldn't be advised. We found the food in the main restaurant to be so poor and repetetive, that we only visited it 2 days out of the 7. If you're happy with chips for lunch and chips for dinner every day, then go for it, but otherwise stay well away. On top of this, the 'All Inclusive' option only applies to locally produced drinks, and only one brand of beer was included in this. On top of this, the bar closed at 11:45pm, so there are no included drinks after this time. All drinks from the poolside bar came in plastic cups, which usually ended up scattered across the pool area. The Italian and Carvery restaurants weren't too bad, however there was better food to be had at the many restaurants on the beachfront.

Our room was a 'suite' and was located on the top floor of the main building. It had a rather unique layout, whereby the bedroom is it's own room, and there is a narrow walkway bypassing it to get from the door/bathroom to the lounge and balcony. This seemed to be a good layout for anybody who came in later than the other occupant and didn't want to disturb them. However, two of the three walls between the bedroom and the rest of the room were translucent, meaning that although the bedroom was seperate, any light from the lounge or bathroom still shone brightly into it. The bathroom light also had a fan which seemed to make a very loud and annoying buzz when the light is left on for any length of time. On at least two occasions, the shower practically switched itself off, or turned freezing cold. This was probably down to the fact that most people were showering at the same time, but it was annoying nonetheless.

On top of this, the TV only seemed to have two channels working (CNN and Eurosport). Now I'm guessing that most people won't go to Tenerife to watch TV, however with the entertainment finishing early, it would have been nice to have all the channels working.

The First Choice entertainment team were nothing short of excellent. They seemed to work all day and pretty much every day, and offered activities for both children and adults. I ended up playing football on two occasions, for some much needed exersize on the holiday. The team were also very approachable and seemed more than happy to have a conversation.

We didn't usually watch the evening entertainment, preferring instead to either head out of the hotel or to go to the 'Irish' bar, however we did go to the 'Battle of the Sexes' night, which was good fun and got almost everybody involved. The 'Robbie Williams experience' seemed like it was directly pulled from Robbie's famous gig at Knebworth, even down to the clothing worn by the performer. The 'Irish' bar was a nice retreat, however it was in no way Irish - They didn't serve Guiness for a start! Also, any non-alcoholic drink came in small plastic cups, and if you wanted water, you had to get it yourself from a water tank outside of the bar.

The maid service wasn't bad, however if you weren't out of your room by 10am, your room wouldn't get cleaned. Our room was only cleaned 3 times in our 7 night stay, and on more than one occasion we ran out of toilet roll.

Overall, we seemed fairly adament within our group that the hotel definately wasn't 4 star, and reading a few of the reviews on here seem to back this up. It wouldn't surprise me if one of those big green stars on the top of the hotel is brought down in the future. However, where the hotel had it's shortcomings, the First Choice team more than made up for this.

3 of 5  not 4 star, A TripAdvisor Member, JJACKSLAD49@BTINTERNET.COM, February 21, 2008

W e booked this hotel for a week of rest, relaxation and sun, which is what we got . The facilities that the hotel offrered looked fine on paper but the reality ws something else.

The food was acceptable , if bland. The rooms were of a reasonable standard but basic.

The so called entertainment was diabolical. If you can imagine pontins or butlins with sun you would be doing them an injustice.

Even the kids left early to throw pool cues at each other.

There is no way in this world that this hotel is 4 star. We booked with First Choice and, aithough we have travelled with them previously this is the worst experience we have had. Even the reps. were useless.

All inclusive was good but I would not recommend this hotel to anybody for whatever reason they would wish to go.

We shall not be going to Tenerife ever again because of the service we were given by the hotel and the travel company.

2 of 5  Avoid the apartments! Not nice!, A TripAdvisor Member, Norfolk, March 14, 2009

This place seems to get very mixed reviews! My guess is the good reviews are from those who stayed in the front part of the hotel. Avoid the apartments at the rear of the hotel. Definitely NOT 4 star. We have had a few holidays abroad and in the Canaries, usually cheap and cheerful and we don't like to complain. This time, we thought we'd spend a bit extra and treat ourselves to 4 star. Very disappointing.

We had a resident cockroach in the bathroom. He or she was able to come in through the cracks in the tiles. There was mould around the bath and the shower hose was also black and mouldy. There was a build up of grime in general, worse in the bathroom and kitchen area. If you do go and find yourself in these conditions, report it to the management straight away. We wrote to our tour provider - youtravel.com - on our return and although we received an apology, we were made to feel that it was our fault for not speaking to the management. I sent photos to the company but they expressed very little concern about the state of the apartments

Food was quite nice. Nice pool at the "posh" side of the resort but we did notice this was actually fenced off from the apartments. You really will feel like the poor relatives!

Oh yes and as in a previous review - air conditioning doesn't work.

Enjoyed Tenerife in general, visit Loro Park and Mount Tiede, well worth it.

2 of 5  Definetley NOT 4*****, A TripAdvisor Member, Manchester, October 26, 2008

Well where do i start, this was our 3rd year at the hotel and its definetley been run to the ground, it was filthy, the food was rubbish, the pool was a disgrace, there was a terrible smell coming from the drains!! My daughter got the tummy bug everyone was getting, i blame the pool or the food, but one of the reps reckon somebody brought it in from the UK which was a load of rubbish it was down to the lack of hygiene!! The one thing i can say is that the ENTERTAINERS were absolutley fantastic and always have been for the 3yrs we have been there, especially Natalie & Chloe my daughter Elle idolised the pair of them they were fantastic and worked god dam hard aswell as Stuart who is a fantastic singer i wish them all luck in whatever they do next!!!!! As for the hotel the Germans are welcome to it hope they clean it up as they wouldnt do it for the English we only pay over the odds for our holiday and kept it going, but we dont matter to them!!!!

2 of 5  Not 4 star and what we paid for, A TripAdvisor Member, whitehaven, August 30, 2008

We booked this hotel through youtravel.com via olaholidays.com because it stated 4 star and showed us pics of a nice hotel. They didnt tell us that we would be shoved in a block of apartments behind which the ocean resort had bought, these used to be called Nogal apartments and were joined to the main hotel via a wooden bridge and were 3 star (well struggled even to be 3 star). Our friends booked at similar time and were put in the main building, these rooms were tons better than ours. We called our block of apartments "the council estate" and theres "the private estate". Many things were in disrepair at the hotel and we got told that first choice were pulling out . I asked at reception for towels and toilet roll but never got them after asking several times,. so i had to pinch them off the cleaners trolley when she wasnt looking and i also had to ask the diy man to fix our aircon because reception never told him when we asked...many people said there aircon didnt work..Our room didnt get a good clean for the first ten days, didnt make beds or empty bathroom bin, it was disgusting, but i guess we just got a lazy cleaner because after ten days a different cleaner did it and she cleaned everywhere, even the balcony...wow .Cat poop was on the stairs down to the pool for a few days...lazy cleaners again.Had to queue for sometime in the midday sun because there was only one behind the bar...The food wasnt the best but was edible and we enjoyed it a couple of times, dinner times were like been in a works canteen. Saying all this, the barstaff and waiters were friendly enough and worked very hard. The first choice entertainments team worked hard and were a good laugh. The entertainment at night was inside and sweat poured off you has it wasnt airconditioned and if you went into the irish bar it was even hotter.

2 of 5  Sespit, A TripAdvisor Member, Manchester, August 20, 2008

If you want a good hoilday at this hotel don't bother getting off the plane.Costa Adeje beautiful. On the first night we arrived we went down to see the entertainment and had our drinks threw at us. If you want a lying in the morning you have no chance as the maids have big mouths.Don't bother taking a alarm clock as you wont need one.Entertainment brought in was very good but first choice entertainment was rubbish have seen better in our local pub.Stayed in Nogal apt 118 god help you if you get this room you will find everything wrong with it.The fan was going at half speed had no air coming off, lock on the door had to be changed four times ,air condition was leaking so we called the mainteance men and all they did was turn off the air conditioning and had to roast. No light outside door just bare wires showing.Look out for bare wires around the pool hid behind blue wheelie bin near the toilets. Also in the big pool you had a light hanging off only attached by its bare wires.Food nice but not for children squid rings and cod balls nearly everynight and chicken nuggets only 3 night out of fourteen but beautiful. Most stafff pleasent but odd one very rude.Hope you enjoy your holiday more than we did. Apart from all this very nice lol but woudn't send my dog there. P.S resturant is more like a cafe and if you get own late to dinner prepare to queue for a table.

2 of 5  The Demise of a good hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, West Lancashire, July 13, 2008

I have just returned from a two week stay at this hotel and what a shame. It was our third time there in 4 years and the standards have certainly dropped!

Firstly, the food and beverages. All drinks are now watered down and the choice of food is limited. Indeed, you probably would find a quarter of the menu in the freezer isle at Iceland! Even down to the choice of dessert - very limited. Also Ocean Palace need to sack the head chef as a lot of the food was slightly burnt.

Service. Oh dear what can I say. Apparently the hotel is having financial troubles and First Choice have not renewed their contract from October 2008. There are fewer waiters than previous years and everything you need you have to queue for. Even down to a saucer for your cup of tea, there simply wasn't enough staff to keep on top of everything.

I must say though that the staff were at all times courteous and polite even though under immense pressure to deliver a service.

Sunloungers in pool area. Well this is a joke. They are not hosed down every night and so they are all sweaty and full of ice cream. Also people in our first week were getting up at 5am to secure their beds with towels. The management had to resort to chaining them and releasing the beds at half hourly intervals during the second week so everyone had a chance to acquire a bed! There simply isn't enough sunbeds to go around and very few parasols.

Kids Club. We had a terrible time the first week trying to get our old son Harry aged 5 into the Kids Club because everytime we went to put his name down other guests were taking up the 16 places allocated for each slot and writing friends/relatives kids names down as well! I talked to the Kids Club Mgr regarding this and she introduced a fairer system the second week so well done.

Actually you can't fault the reps at First Choice for the effort because I did hear a lot of people complaining to them about various things - broken hairdryer, theft, poor food - you name it!

Even down to the apartments at the back of the Ocean Hotel, the Nogal, which was 3 star but part of the 'Ocean Resort' but quite honestly were one would put the poor relations - no view etc and really grotty. The tea and coffee machines were inoperable in the Nogal section but because you had the use of the 4 star facilities at Ocean Resort/Hotel you were charged the same for a grotty Nogal apartment as the Ocean Hotel suites. Not fair really!!

I must mention Paddy the Swim Kids coach who taught our son how to swim on a one to one basis. I would strongly recommend him as he is such a good teacher and great withe the kids.

The entertainment was okay but was the same the second week as the first. The First Choice reps work really hard and put on an excellent Jack and the Beanstalk for the kiddies.

Our suite in the Ocean Palace Hotel was cleaned everyday bar Friday and was faultless. The maid was very good and did a thorough job although I did hear terrible accounts of guests having to make their own beds, manage with dirty towels etc. I think this must be down to the floor you were on as I heard no complaints about the third floor suites.

It is worth checking out the roof top jacuzzi for adults only. You get a key from reception and the sunbead are so comfortable up there. Also there is a shower, fridge, bathroom facility there so anyone checking out in the afternoon with no kids could go up their and shower instead of hiring a checkout room for £30 plus!!

The Ocean Resort is in a lovely area called Costa Adeje, a 10 minute walk down to the beach front where right you can go to the very posh Playa Del Duque, Fanabe beach or left towards Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos way. The hotel is sea facing and on a slight incline so you dont have to pay extra for a sea view.

All in all I am very sorry to see that service and food have badly let this hotel down and I will not be going there again.

2 of 5  Beware!! There is no air conditioning in this complex., A TripAdvisor Member, ireland, July 4, 2008

Beware!! There is no air conditioning in this complex.

My top priority when booking our family sun holiday this year as always was A/C I made this quite clear to the travel agent.

As a party of 4, 2 adults and 2 big teenager boys (one a friend of my son)

I really wanted a 2 bed apartment but could not get one with A/C.

We decided on a one bed in the Ocean Palace/Resort in Tenerife because it’s a busy resort (for the boys) and it has A/C.

On arrival as soon as I got into the apartment the first thing I checked was of course the A/C there was none.

I went immediately to the reception and was informed that the so called A/C was not working because of a technical problem!!!!!!!!!!!

It turned out that there was a little vent in the wall and they were trying to pass this of as A/C.

Next day I tried to resolve this major issue with the rep she showed me a room in the hotel but surprise surprise they have no A/C there either just bigger vents.

I asked to be transferred to a different complex without any luck, the solution, they gave us a fan.

I had to fork out € 140.00 to hire a small portable A/C unit which was inadequate to say the least.

Also the apartment block is quite older then the hotel our front door jammed half way the place was in need of a really good deep clean and as for the cockroaches!

So to sum up I paid €2500.00 for two weeks in June/July to stay in a stiflingly hot, run down pretty grotty one bed apartment with cockroaches.

Forgot to mention there were no umbrellas at the apartment pool complained about this also but to no avail.

As far as I’m concerned this complex is misrepresented in the Falcon holidays brochure as they only show a picture of the newly built hotel and its pool the apartment block is completely different

2 of 5  disappointed, A TripAdvisor Member, southampton, June 26, 2008

went with an open mind after reading previous reviews, stayed in the annexe as we needed 2 bed ok it was not 4* but it does state that these apartments are only 3* it was clean and roomy but very basic not what i expected for all inclusive, it is situated at the top of a hill with nothing much else near it, fanabe beach is a taxi ride about 4 euros with loads of shops/bars/restuarants. Firstchoice reps excellent with kids and entertainment ok not always suitable for kids, food was not bad but chips everyday! even with the carvery that you have too book early day before, its in the bistro next to the hotel, tried to book the italian 2 evenings and didnt get it but from what was said we didnt miss much. Loro Park was excellent but be prepared for 90minute coach trip to get there, aqua park small and only 5euros in a taxi well worth a visit just too see dolphin show, did boat trip on royal delfin packed on like sardines but did see whales/dolphins you get a meal and drinks too but should have booked the pirate boat or freebird catamaran loads of space on those. all in all liked tenerife but not the ocean resort it needs a major refurb lots of people were not very happy they had paid alot of money for a butlins style holiday but eh at least the sun was hot happy holidays

2 of 5  Wouldn't recommend it!!!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Northampton, United Kingdom, June 24, 2008

Date: 13th June, 2008

Reviewer: Trip Advisor Member, England.

Found more faults as the week went on!!!

First off lovely rooms in Ocean Palace side, not sure about the apartments in Nogal Beach side though (adjoined accommodation to the hotel). Rooms were cleaned every morning. Great variety of food in the restuarant ranging from fishfingers and chicken nuggets for kids and meats and fish in different sauces and pasta for all. Never went a day starving, especially being such a fussy eater!!

The maximum depth of the Ocean Palace pool is 1.5 metres, but tiles missing and loose drain covers, deeply cut foot twice VERY slippy around the pool when wet, saw a few people slip on it! Nogal Beach pool is deeper and the wooden platform around the edge of the pool has nails sticking out of the bottom, very dangerous!!!

Stayed there as a couple but when the weather wasn't brilliant there's not much for kids to do, they were bored, reps had nothing going on to keep them entertained.

Nick in Coopers Irish Bar really friendly and always has your next drink ready for you before finishing your first! The type of service I like and the best service there!!

Nice view of the sea from Ocean Palace rooms, walking distance about 15 mins, but steep hill when it comes to walking back (and slippy surface!!) saw people slip down the street aswell, be very careful!

Rarely saw a smile on the staff's faces, and they seemed to be overworked, hence difficult getting a smile out of them! Staff on reception should be able to speak good English but either didn't or pretended they didn't and were really ignorant at times!

Didn't want to believe the negative reviews before booking our stay there but thought we'd take a chance, overall had a good holiday and didn't let these points ruin it but not 4* status by far and wouldn't recommend it!!

2 of 5  Not my cup of tea, A TripAdvisor Member, UK, May 25, 2008

We stayed at the Ocean Palace in May o8 AI for 2 weeks.........

2 adults and 3 year old.

They kindly put us in the Nogal Beach side of the hotel which was the scummy side! First floor rooms were ideal for families, but you had unwanted visitors quite regular! COCKROACHES.

We were put on the 2nd floor rm 217, not bad, but not 3/4 star either. We got cockroaches the last 4 days of our holiday. I wasn't impressed.

First one in the shower had the hot water, after that it was freezing!

Staff couldn't fault, really friendly.

Food, fine for AI. Hubby loved it, I thought it was okay!

May is the quiet part of the season, i couldn't imagine how bad it would be in the peak season! Mayhem.

Only 1 bar staff on each bar, so takes ages to be served, even when the hotels empty.

Pools, freezing. Staff throw inflatables over the wall if u leave them at the pool.

Had mixed reviews from others staying at hotel, some have been 2/3 times and others were horrified!

Very noisy, walls paper thin. We could hear our neighbour on the toilet! NICE

Kids running a riot, Parents letting them get away with murder,so they can have peace!

Costa Adeje, fine, not overly impressed with the place.

We wouldn't go back, feel ripped off, i booked a 4 star hotel, not to be put in the shitty part!

we will try los christianos next time xxxx good luck

2 of 5  Dissapointing...the reps are great though!!, A TripAdvisor Member, north yorks, April 14, 2008

We arrived here on the 25th march after a great flight. we were given a one bed apt, we actually booked a suite but were told there were none avail. the apts are supposed to be 3 star but they are nearer 1-2. Not what we were expecting after saving all year for a 4 star holiday.

No shade on the bedroom wall light, leaving bare wires and bulb in reach of a 12 and 5 year old. We reported this on the first day and then 5 more times, it still wasn't done after 2 wks.

No wardrobe doors.

Only one mirror and that was in the bathroom! (ever tried to curl or straighten hair after 4 people have showered?)

filthy fridge, i left the tray out for the maid to clean again and it was still sat there when we left after a fortnight.

Very rude pool bar staff, on the apt side the bar closes on sundays, even when the hotel is fully booked and when it open only from 12 to 6pm or before if the bar staff feel like it.

Very long queue's for the pool bars as always only ever one person serving, ( hotel fully booked)

Food edible but repeated every week, def the worst all inc food I have had the misfortune to taste.

the first choice reps were fantastic, the kids reps were really fab our son loved Rocking Ryan, Nat is great, they are all fantastic and they made our holiday bearable they are so hard working..well done!

I usually take the reviews with a pinch of salt but after getting there and finding out for myself I moaned for two days then i had to switch off cos our kids loved it here and thats why we put up with it! Please note.. If you are not bothered about quality of food, Standing at the bar for ages, Slipping by the pool or been given sub-standard accommodation for which you will not be reimbursed then book this hotel!

If..like us, you like to get what you pay for and have a worry free holiday then please don't, We have stayed in far superior 2-3 star.

This has been a great hotel in its time but has had no money spent since it was built. IT EITHER NEEDS 2 STARS TAKING AWAY OR A MAJOR REFURB!!!

OH AND DON'T GET ME GOING ABOUT THE DINING ROOM!! (CANTEEN)!!!

2 of 5  Hotel nice, watch your money, A TripAdvisor Member, Hampshire, January 1, 2008

The hotel was clean and the staff work very hard. We went on Friday 21st and discovered on Thursday 27th Dec that I guess the maid had stolen £200 (280 Euros and £20 note) from my husband’s wallet in his bed side drawer. We were extremely upset and the main rep Ms B LePage was so awful. She literally said 5 sentences to us and two of them were "you should have got a safe". Well that was now obvious and she said we can ring the police as they speak good English. Not at any point did she ask us our room number or say that it would be investigated. We called the police station and they gave us a crime number but we had to get to police station to collect it. The police station is too far to walk and as we had little cash left we could not get a taxi. She said have a nice day as though we had just bought tickets for a day trip. Hotel nice but First Choice lack or support/sympathy worse ever experienced. We are fortunate enough to have a few holidays per year and this is by far the most unprofessional experience we have had. We completed a postcard with our comments and Ms LePage did not even bother to come and discuss this. This also gave me the impression that this happens a lot. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU GET A SAFE. Will never go back.

2 of 5  Hmmmm definitely not 4 star, wouldn't return., A TripAdvisor Member, Glasgow, December 31, 2007

I'm not too sure whether I actually enjoyed this holiday or not. We went out 18th Dec this year and flew back on xmas day.

The First Choice entertainment team and kids club reps here are very good. Natalie one of the entertainment team has an excellent voice and the girls quite obviously enjoy their job. However, it felt a bit groundhog day to me. Perhaps I've just stayed in too many first choice hotels!

The hotel itself is ok, its not fabulous and there is no way on this earth its a four star. We were lucky enough to be allocated a superior suite in the hotel which probably did make the four star grade. However, having seen the other hotel rooms I would say they are three star. The hotel room was kept really clean and if the room had been rubbish I would definitely have been asking for a move.

The food is a different matter, I'm hard pushed to give it a two star rating. It was the same old boring bland stuff almost every night. We've been all inclusive several times and I would say this is the worst food I've come across in a hotel yet unfortunately.

There is only one toilet near the pool and entertainment and it very rarely had toilet roll. This is a real bugbear of mine!

If you get a really cheap deal here and are not used to staying in decent four star hotels then you will probably love it.

I have a real problem with the amount of seriously drunk people who stayed here during the period. These people just let their kids do want they want while they stayed at the bar and got drunk then made a twit of themselves.

Definitely won't be returning to this hotel, but as I said, for a cheap deal its ok. Quite sad as First Choice are a great holiday company and this hotel really lets them down with the food quality!

2 of 5  very average, A TripAdvisor Member, gilly30, December 29, 2007

we stayed at this hotel as a winter break and 30th bday present for me. we were recommened it by someone.......and it shows we all expect different thing!!

the hotel itself is good the rooms are a great size we were on 2nd floor with a pool view and sea view which was nice.

the food.... well its like a cafe, food just warm and a terrible choice i think they expect kids to live off chips for the stay (which our child doesnt eat) breakfast the best and then the choice gets worse throughout the day

the pool.... it was very dirty, the dirt inbetween the tiles was not good

drinks ok and mini disco ok. we went for some great walks towards veronicas, beware of the time share people giving away scratch cards after a while it does begin to get on your nerves.

2 of 5  More like 2 or 3 star, A TripAdvisor Member, Isle of Man, November 19, 2007

We arrived at the ocean Resort on a bus that was not air conditioned and when my husband mentioned it to the rep as our one year old daughter was bright red and we had had to strip her due to the stuffiness on the bus, she said oh it was fine at the front we had the window open. (Not the response we were looking for) We are not usually ones to complain at all but we felt we had been sold this hotel by First Choice as a 4star and it was anything but. Even one of the reps said to me on the second day that the hotel had gone downhill and was more like 3 star maximum and she couldn't wait to leave! That really made us feel good about spending the next 2 weeks there.

Rooms were fine apart from the fact the maids only ever made the bed, it wasn't cleaned once whilst we were there. In the end i borrowed a dustpan and brush from reception and swept the floor myself then used wipes to clean it as we did not want our daughter crawling on the dirty floor. I reported this to reception many times but made no difference. We had 13 cockroaches in our bath one morning and still nothing was done!

The food:- this was more like a truck stop/ greasy spoon/ school canteen. The food was poor - no much choice at all, you had to order your drinks from the staff so were lucky to get more than one with your meal. The food was greasy and the main staple was chips. Both our children are good eaters and our 3 1/2 year old ended up living on chips and bread as there was not anything else he liked as the choice was so poor. The were 5 highchairs in the whole complex and way more babies so our daughter ended up on our knee eating her dinner on more than one occaision. We also ended up having to queue for dinner and breakfast , sometimes for up to 45 mins which totally defeats going all inclusive.

The pool area was very slippy with cracked tiles and broken very sharp sunbeds. There was one toilet for ladies and one for men to services the whole hotel during the day that often had no toilet roll and we didn't see soap there the whole time we were there.

The evening entertainment was ok and we made the most of it.

Kids club was good and our son loved it. Suzy, Gemma, Darren, Zoe and Nikki were great with the kids but rest of the reps acted like they did not want to be there.

I did express our dissatisfaction to Babs the First Choice rep but she really did not have that much interest and just blamed the fact the hotel was so tired on the fact that it was busy all year round and they never got round to fixing things - hardly our problem. They should close for a week and give it an overhaul.

This hotel is such a shame as it could be so good and we met people who had previously been there and said it was good then but were very disappointed with it now. I don't know what has happened apart from the fact they have taken on the complex behind and i don't think the hotel could handle all residents that were there.

Most of the staff are friendly although some of the First Choice staff really could care less and it showed.

We would go back to Tenerife but not to this hotel.

1 of 5  do not go to this hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Dalkeith, Midlothian, October 25, 2008

We have just returned from this hotel early this morning and felt I had to write and let everyone know about it. I've never left a review before but felt compelled to do so.

Firstly we arrived at approx 10pm, hungry after a long day and was told there was no food but here is a pizza menu!!! MMMM is this a sign of things to come. Got to our room and generally everything looked ok. We were booked into a superior room but to be honest the only thing that was different was the whirlpool bath which I wouldn't go in anyway cos it was minging!! The tap for the shower was also coming away from the wall and this was reported but not fixed.

The room was only cleaned maybe twice in the fortnight although the maid did come in nearly every day but don't know what she did.

Onto the pool area - set your alarm clock for about 7.30 so you can get down to get yourself a broken bed and fight for one of the broken umbrellas (there is only about 6).

The bar area at the pool only had one guy serving and there was always a queue for drinks. The snack bar served toasties, burgers, hot dogs and chips but closed sharp at 6 just the like pool bar. If you wanted a snack after that then you were out of luck. The lunches were served outside and were normally just the food from the night before. The food was edible however there was a lack of choice unless you want to eat chips every day!!!

The pool was never cleaned and there seemed to have been a sickness and diarrhoea bug that was rife in the complex. All of us had it and nearly everyone I spoke to had had it at some point. I'm pretty sure this would have been due to the lack of cleaniness in the pool.

First choice are leaving next week so they hotel management are busying sprucing the place up for the germans arriving. pretty sure this should have been done when the hotel was closed though.

Also the kids club wasn;t up to much, my kids are 7 and 11 and the whole reason for booking this hotel was for the clubs. There was supposed to be a wavelength club which never ran due to lack of numbers but believe me there was loads of kids aged 11-14 just hanging about. The only positive was the first choice entertainers who worked really hard to provide something for everyone. WELL DONE to them.

I can honestly say that I would never return to this hotel, I was truly disappointed with the whole experience. I have been to many 3 and 4 star hotels and this was definitely not 4 star.

1 of 5  Dont bother!!!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Portsmouth, June 16, 2008

How can this be advertised as 4 star! The room we had was nice, spacious. Staff very polite and friendly. Well, thats the good stuff over!

The pool was freezing. The "restaraunt" (or sloppy cafe)... food diabolical, chips, chips, chips. No veg or choice. More like a 2 star hotel, Paper serviettes and tablecloths, not that we are "posh" but god you need to feel a bit elegant when eating in a "4" star eh. You get the choice if all inclusive to visit the Italian and Carvery, both are managed by the same staff!!!!!

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of 4 Star. Well below the expectations. Watch the cockroaches, only saw 2 but they are so big they wear war paint!!!!!

1 of 5  butlins with cockroaches, A TripAdvisor Member, London, March 2, 2008

I booked my holiday via first choice website. Classed as ****. Which ia actually in neon lights on the building. But i was told this is four sun???? (later)

When booking i was given the option of a 1bd apt or a suite, for the same money, as i was travelling with a teenager, i choose the apt. BIG MISTAKE The apt s are behind the main building (they are classed 3key???) You feel like the poor relation..

My view was a snooker table a bar, at eye level, so everyone can look in. My fridge was broken, wardrobe, had only one door. And it was cockroach infested. Whem i complained to the reps and hotel staff. I was told this is the way it is here!! This went on for three 3 days, i found one in the bed!! They would not move me to the front and treated the room, which did not work. I then moved to a higher floor, apt was cleaner no cockroaches but no hot water.

The food was canteen style, breakfast ok, lunch leftovers or burgers and salad. Dinner was spot the food, we did not know what we were eating, i have shellfish allergy, so three times had cheese salad.

1 of 5  Worst hotel ever stayed in, A TripAdvisor Member, Yorkshire, November 23, 2007

We have been travelling abroad for the last 20 years and on average we go 4 times a year. We are not at all the complaining type, in fact just the opposite. We usually just pass off small problems, after all, you have to remember you are in a different country and obviously standards can't be expected to be the same as at home. However, we never stopped complaining at this hotel, it became embarrassing, I even felt sorry for the receptionist. The problem was, they were all things that you just couldn't ignore. I really don't know where to start.

Things we complained to reception about:

No electricity in room - this we could cope with except that we waited for 3 hours and telephoned reception 4 times as was now dark and we couldn't get ready to go out.

Towels in room filthy and still not changed after 4 days - felt that couldn't use them again. Asked 3 times for clean towels and finally came at 7.00pm, considering that the bath took 1 hour to fill to a suitable level and shower just trickled out, this meant that we didn’t get out until after 9.00pm that night

4 young Spanish men in room next-door, must have been on a stag night or something. Were awakened at 1.00am with what sounded like someone banging loudly on our door and shouting. Noise outside our room continued until 5.00am When we got up in the morning, found that they had vomited outside and up our door. The floor outside was littered with cigarette butts and what looked like the remains of a take away. Complained to reception and asked to move rooms, the receptionist said that they knew the young men and would speak to them and that they would not do it again for a second night. The cleaner only swept up the vomit from outside our door. The stains and the smell remained.

They did start to make a lot of noise the following night at 1.00am but true to their word a call to reception put a stop to it. The receptionist said to me that you can not expect your neighbours not to make any noise. I agreed but told her that if I had wanted to put up with this kind of noise until the early hours of the morning, I would have gone on a Club 18-30 holiday and stayed in the centre of Los Americas. There was a time when I would have even enjoyed this type of holiday, and probably been so drunk myself that wouldn't have even noticed the noise.

Things that we didn't complain to reception about:

The room was absolutely filthy!!!! The floors were very dirty and if you walked around in bare feet this soon became apparent. The bath had to be washed out before use. The shower screen looked like it was 2 inch thick with grunge. The soap tray covered in old hardened soap. The toilet was stained and filthy as were the sinks. You really felt that you didn't want to touch or use anything. I bent down to get something off the floor in the bedroom and don't even want to mention what under the beds looked like. Everywhere was just absolutely filthy.

The rest of the hotel was dirty and scruffy, the sad thing is, it looked like it could have been very nice at one time but has now just been left to rack and ruin.

The food was awful, and believe me I like my food and will normally eat anything.

This hotel is quite a long way from anywhere. If, like us, you wanted to go out for a meal or a drink elsewhere on an evening you had to walk quite a way down a hill. We can recommend the Thai resteraunt just opened opposite the hotel though. The food was good and the service excellent. Shortcut if you are going to Fanabe beach (to the left of the hotel),although Del Duque beach (to the right) is the nicest:

From the main hotel, walk past the tennis courts on the pool level, when you reach the end you will find some steps, Go down the steps and turn left. Cross the road at the bottom where it is a dead end and continue to your left until the end and then turn right. You will see a shopping complex ahead of you over the road. Continue down the wide path at the right hand side of the shopping complex and it will take you to the beach (there is a cafe called 'The Pantry' on the ground floor level of this complex which serves delicious home made deserts. This is by far the quickest way of reaching the beach. If you go to Del Duque beach, take one of the side streets to your right and just keep following this it will take you to the beach eventually.

They just shut the outside bars during the day as and when they feel like it. The bar at the Nogal Beach side of the hotel didn't open at all one day and likewise the one at the main hotel also didn't open one day.

Coffee, which was foul tasting, was served in plastic cups in the main bar on an evening unless you specifically asked for a cup and saucer. I know this may sound a bit fussy but is one of the reasons why this hotel is definitely not 4 stars. The staff really did appear as though they couldn't be bothered.

Probably, the only good things about this hotel were the entertainers and the reception staff. The entertainers kept the kids well amused and the kids seemed to really enjoy themselves. The reception staff were pleasant, and I should know I had enough dealings with them. It even became a joke within our party that every time I passed reception the receptionist developed a nervous twitch and ducked down. I think they must be really used to people complaining, I even felt quite sorry for them.

I would never, ever stay at this hotel again, even if it were offered free of charge. I would rate it as a very poor 2 star hotel. This hotel really does need to pull its socks up. I was just amazed at how bad a hotel could be in almost every respect.
