Beautiful Rooms, small pool area | Read all reviews
We thought the rooms and the beds were heavenly, the staff was efficient, and the breakfast was good, the lady looking after the breakfast was also pleasant. Parking got bit tough in the evening as there is a steakhouse across the parking lot which is popular and that takes up a lot of the parking availability. Our only main beef is that the pool is small and shallow, no place for someone that really wants to swim, especially teenagers.

This Country Inn and Suites is quite new, very clean and non-smoking! The staff was friendly. Check-In was a breeze and check-out was even easier. The pool was small but had a nice waterslide. There was a kiddie pool with a fountain in the middle. Again, small but nice. There was also a hot tub. The continental breakfast was fabulous, with the usual items as well as waffles and egg and sausage. Good price, great hotel! This motel could very well serve as the model for how to operate a motel of this caliber. Unfortunately, in my extensive travels I have found Country Inn By Carlson to be somewhat uneven in quality – some are fair and far too many are simply awful. This particular inn is very well managed and offers a frequent traveler a real respite from the usual succession of mediocre to poor accommodations. The staff is professional, friendly and very helpful even when confronted with crowds of people asking for assistance all at the same time. The rooms are specious, very clean and very comfortable. As a business traveler I appreciate the well lit work area and the high speed wired and wireless Internet provided in each room – for once, the term “high speed” applies honestly to the connections provided! The free breakfast is offered in a small, but very functional and comfortable room. The breakfast includes the standard items such as cereals and muffins as well as do-it-yourself waffles (2 waffle irons with regular syrup and strawberries); fruit and other offerings. Parking is easy and the parking area is well lit – something that is appreciated by the lone woman traveler. All and all, this is an exceptional property that is well suited to almost any traveler. The hotel was extremely clean - the morning we left I met 3 staff members who were out polishing in the lobby. very good continental breakfast, including waffles, biscuits and gravy, plus cereal, pastries, etc. The water slide was very fun for the kids. The only downside was that the pool area smelled VERY strong chlorine. It was a stronger smell than any pool I've been in. Another guest said that it had not been that way the previous day. Maybe just a fluke experience. We will definately stay there again when visiting Duluth. Country inn north was awesome. We live in Duluth but stayed with some friends from out of town. It is the newest hotel (june 05) and it is the best hotel in Duluth. It has a waterslide and a microwave and fridge in most rooms. It is within a mile of the mall and has an airport shuttle. The lifeguards were cranky and there is no view of the lake but this by far the best hotel in Duluth. The hotel is close to the airport and Miller Hill Mall, but a few miles from downtown and Canal Park. We stayed in a standard room, which was clean and spacious. Housekeeping was prompt (brought us additional pillows) and most of the staff was very accomodating ~ They even followed me to drop off a rental car and then took me to the airport! There was one guy at the front desk who had a bad attitude, but we only saw him the night we checked in. The free breakfast and the free internet were both good. The swimming area has slides for the kids and the fitness center has several treadmills and an eliptical, with a tv to watch, but no headphones. There are some restaurants nearby, but I highly recommend the trip downtown to Fitger's Brewhouse. It is very casual, with a great upscale bar-and-grill atmosphere, and really delicious food! The new Country Inn and Suites is actually in Herman Town. It is very close to the Miller Creek Mall area. About 4 miles from the hustle bustle of Canal Park. We enjoyed out 3 night stay there. The rooms were very comfortable and well maintained. Housekeeping was very on top of it all. Our only negative was our toilet the first night when flushed in the middle of the night made a noise like a machine gun going off. We couldn't figure out what the heck it was. Very loud! My husband lifted the back of the toilet and opened a valve. It seemed to have fixed the horrible noise. They have a nice pool area with a whirlpool, large pool slide, and a kiddy pool. The breakfast in the morning was also very good. Make your own waffles were a big hit. We definitely would stay here again. The hotel is one of the newer hotels in Duluth and the best choice given the competition largely consists of old full service and lots of Super 8's, Comforts, Days Inns and other tired economy brands. The pool area was a little small but the slide (only one) was fun but the line was long when the hotel was full on our 2nd night. Breakfast was served in a little room with about 4 tables and one waffle maker. The line for waffles was long and you had to fight to find a place to sit! The staff was OK but not necessarily friendly or helpful and the room was OK but not as big as other Countrys we have stayed in. Overall this hotel is the best choice in Duluth again given the lack of high quality lodging in this market, but it was not up to the standards we have experienced in other Country Inns.
