You may take a few 4-legged friends home from this place!!! | Read all reviews
We had a few problems with this hotel as I have listed them below: Problem # 1 When my family and I first arrived at this hotel, our first impression of the place was that it was roomy, it smelled pretty good, and it seemed to look pretty clean for the most part, so we all decided that it was safe to begin unpacking our things because we were definetely going to stay. That's about the time my first bad experience occurred. As I was unpacking the kitchen items, I went to open one of the cabinets in the kitchen and a COCK ROACH scurried out-yes, a cock roach!! I have to say, I was pretty freaked out for a while after that. Everywhere I went in the 'apartment', I was on the look out for more. The next time I was going to be prepared when one jumped out at me! It wasn't long either. I spotted the second one in the bedroom about 45 mins. later. We jumped in the car and went to the grocery store to buy some Raid roach killer and I sprayed the entire apartment when we got back. Thankfully, I didn't see another one the rest of the time that we were there. Now...I know that in Florida, and an occasional palmetto bug (roach) in the house isn't unheard of. I've lived in this state for 25 years, but 2 of them in 1 hour is usually not a good sign!! Problem # 2 After we unpacked our things, I decided to set up my laptop. I brought my computer so I could get some work done during down times; read my emails; ect... So, I set up the laptop and try to connect to the internet. Nothing. I call the front desk thinking maybe I've got to request internet service for the room. Nope...it's free with every room they tell me, so they send someone to see about the problem. 2 very nice maitenance men show up in a decent amount of time, unfortunately, neither one of them could fix the problem w/ the computer even though they were in my room trying to figure things out for a good 30 mins. They also forgot to replace the light bulb that I found was out while they were there. They probably were thinking about how they were going to fix the window that wouldn't shut in the bedroom. Before they leave, one of the maitenance men tells me that he is going to have the 'computer technician' that he had been speaking with on the phone call back after he gets the information that he needs to walk me through the problem, so I wait for about 45 mins. and suddenly realize that no one has called me yet and it's starting to get pretty late. I decide to call the front desk to see if I can light a fire under someone, but aparently, the front desk couldn't even put me in touch with the same person that the maitenance man had been on the phone with. At this point, they tell me that the entire hotel is having probelms connecting to the internet, and they will have a technician out first thing in the morning to fix everything. No one ever showed up and I never had access to the internet the entire time I stayed there. I began to feel like I was getting the run-around everytime I asked about it. My advice to anyone who absolutely needs an internet connection would be to plug your computer in BEFORE you unpack your things. Problem # 3 The second night we were there, we were coming in from a long day at Busch Gardens. When you enter the hotel grounds, you must use your key to get into the security gate, which is a wonderful idea provided that your key works everytime you enter!! Since ours didn't work that night, we just thought we were doing something wrong, so we pressed the call button on the machine where you swipe your key and an operator let us into the gate. That was not really a big deal, but then, after driving all the way to our building and then walking up 3 flights of stairs up to our room, we go to unlock our door and find that our key is not working in our door either!! Needless to say, we had to walk back down 3 flights of stairs, get back into the car, and drive back up to the registration clubhouse to get the key fixed by the front desk. A few other small things that bothered me were that the laundry facilities and the pool were pretty far from our room. We had to drive back up to the front to get there as we were about 1/2 mile away from these ammenities. Also, the kitchen didn't really have anything in it to use when cooking. I knew this coming in so I tried to bring every thing I needed to cook each meal that I had planned, but I still forgot a few items. I also expected for some of the items that were missing to be there, such a plates (we had 3 saucers) and silverware (we had a fork, a knife, and 4 spoons).
All in all, I felt like the hotel had some issues. The positive points about my experience were that the hotel staff was very friendly (even though they were pretty useless). The rooms were really big and they came stocked with their own vaccuum cleaners which I found to be very convenient since I always bring my own. Also, the work out room and pool were both very clean. We didn't get a chance to eat at the restaurant in the hotel, but it looked nice and the food smelled great at night.

While having out patient surgery at the Laser Spine Institute, we stayed at the Mainsail for a week. What a great place. The facility was well cared for and our apartment was perfect for what we needed, i.e., two separate bedrooms and two separate baths. They were always available to take us to the Institute and pick us up when we were ready to come back. All the employees were friendly and helpful. If we had any problem, there was someone there right away to resolve our issue. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone needing to stay in Tampa We had a great stay at this resort. Didn't have time to use the pool or fitness room but it was clean. The staff was friendly and we were checked in within minutes. Loved the idea that the rooms were behind a secure gate. Thanks and we will be staying there again. travel agent had us booked somewhere else we thought, ended up having to find a place in a hurry. Read reviews and booked hotel online. Wonderful stay, staff was smiling and pleasant constantly. I turned out to need a lot of attention from them and they always responded with utmost care and consideration. Hotel staff provides shuttle service to nearby destinations, located in a gated area for security, ROOMS 5 STAR QUALITY would stay there over and over again. My husband, sister-in-law and I stayed at the Mainsail on New Year's Eve, partly due to the close proximity to the Outback Bowl and partly due to the good reviews I had read online. We were initially concerned about the area, but once we reached the Mainsail and saw how safe the "resort" is, we no longer worried. We were greeted by a very helpful front desk clerk, who even printed directions for us to the restaurant he recommended. We headed back to our suite, which was very spacious, very clean, and equipped with all that was promised. We even had a little balcony. Following our dinner (which was good, at the Bahama Breeze), we went back to the hotel to hang out at the Mainsail's hot tub. This was our only disappointment. While the pool area was clean and well laid out, the our hot tub experience was quite brief after we noticed the floating clumps of black scum. Thankfully, the heated pool was much cleaner and warm enough to relax in. Taxis were at a premium, so rather than heading down to Ybor City, we went to the hotel bar/lounge. We were unexpectedly pleased to find the bar was handing out party favors and party hats in honor of New Year's Eve. Then, at midnight, everyone received a complimentary glass of champagne to kick off the New Year's right! I would definitely go back to the Mainsail, though might steer clea rof the hot tub. We definitely got our money's worth. We were very impressed with the hotel, a former private accomodation for IBM employees. Located in a gated community we felt very comfortable right away. Our apartment-like unit had 2 bedrooms with 2 beds each and 2 full bathrooms, very roomy closets, full kitchen with LR and DR. An outdoor pool and spa along with a very nice exercise facility (plenty of equipment to use!!) are on the grounds. The staff will take you by golf cart to your room, since they are some distance from the front desk and they are happy to pick you up to carry you back to the front desk or to a range of local eateries or grocery stores, using their shuttle. There is only one restaurant on site with limited menu and somewhat pricey and a small "store" where you can get some items for your room. We did not try to go out to a restaurant, since you'd have to work out getting back to the hotel if you went late in the day. If you're going to be there any length of time, you really need a car, since things are just far enough away to be inconvenient (Westshore Mall, etc.). Getting there from the airport is no problem, since they have a dedicated shuttle pick-up phone line at the terminal and an uncrowded pickup area to wait in. We dropped our car at the airport first, since we had an early flight the next day. Staff was very friendly and helpful, rooms clean and pleasant. It's somewhat hard to find since the Airport Cargo road is also Eisenhower, where the hotel is located. Hotel is near other airport hotels, but it really feels like a home - well suited for a longer stay. We'd definitely come back again. We stayed here for 3 nights in July 2007, choosing this hotel for its proximity to Busch Gardens. We were not disappointed - our 2 bedroom suite was huge with very comfortable beds. The room was spotless. The surrounding area was quiet despite being so near to Tampa airport. The hotel has a great pool and a good restaurant bar that stays open until 2am. We were delighted with our choice of hotel. We stayed at Mainsail Suites from May 7th-12th. I had to admit I was a little nervous staying that close to the airport, but was I pleasantly surprised! We heard the planes minimally and never heard them at night whatsoever. The property is beautiful with a tropical atmosphere and a great pool and hot tub. We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath for a really great rate. Clean nice rooms, a kitchen and more than we could ask for. Nice location, sort of in the middle of everything. We would definately stay here again. Great, great place!! We booked a golf vacation and Mainsail was our residence for a week. It was conveniently located near the airport. Two bedroom , two bathroom suites fit our needs perfectly...and a GREAT value to boot. The greatest value by far was the excellence of room services and the front desk. Each day we came back to perfectly clean bedrooms, bathrooms with abundant towels and kitchen. Hats off and a big thanks to Goldie Fink the guest services manager. She knows the dining industry in Tampa intimately (her husband's a chef). We relied on her recommendations and were always pleased. Charlie's Steak house was the best. Any question or concern that came up was dealt with immediately. The pool and exercise room were clean, available and everything worked (except for one treadmill). The laundry was conveniently located near the pool. The breakfast buffet was quick, convenient, very good and open early! The restaurant /bar was located near the front desk and the food was also very good. We would highly recommend Mainsail for anyone looking for this type of accommodation because you won't find a better deal in the Tampa area. My family of four stayed in the two bedroom suite for one night. We booked with Mainsail after reading excellent reviews in TripAdvisor. We were not disappointed. It was very easy to locate on the corner of two major roads. The grounds were lovely; large oak trees, beautiful shrubs, flowers, and even ponds with baby ducks! The suite was like an apartment and was very spacious. Kitchen had a large refrigerator and stove. Nice table in dining area. Walk in closet in bedroom. Large bathrooms. Short walk from parking lot to suite. Had problem with a/c and maintenance people were prompt, friendly, courteous, and efficient. Lots of restaurants nearby. Small "store" off hotel lobby has snacks, drinks and other items for sale. We would definitely stay here again when we visit the Tampa area. This is a very detailed review. I hope it helps. I first booked for one night, but didn't get a single room for the other 2 days. I could only get a 2-bedroom, which was only $25 more per day, but check back - I wound up getting the single bed unit after all. This place looks more like a country club than a hotel (or the traditional national-chain extended stay units), as I pulled up to the Mainsail Suites Hotel in Tampa, on Eisenhower Blvd. It's perhaps a long fly ball away (hit by a steroid-using batter, perhaps) from Tampa's airport. I arrived before noon, after trying to waste time since I had arrived at 9:30am. The front entrance looks more like a country club, and grounds keepers were busy outside, doing general maintenance on the road. Opening the door to the front desk area, an employee was busy, scrubbing what looked like a tan slate-like floor. The desk clerk didn't even flinch when I asked if I could check in early, just after 11am - "Your room is ready," he said, instructing me to enter the gated area and head for the 300-series buildings. The place is better than I expected. A lived-in look with shrubs and trees providing a wealth of shade for sunny days, I drove past 2 cranes that searched for fish in the ponds beside the road. Opening my car, I saw a poor small dead frog... My place was on the third floor, and I do regret my request, even when I was warned that there are no elevators for the units. They look more like condominiums, and you should think along that line since you may see a tied bag of trash at the front entrance to a unit. This is made for extended stay residents, but what a great find for a short stay. Lugging my equipment to the third floor, I loved the view of my room. A square table set, with settings for two (including wine glasses and cloth napkins), and there was also a small living area (with sofa bed, TV and 2 big chairs), a small balcony with table and 2 chairs, a full kitchen complete with dish washer, dishes, pots and pans.... I suddenly thought about actually baking a cake and cooking some lobster, which I still may do. There's even a toaster and electric can opener, and there were 4 coffee bags for me. A room beyond the kitchen revealed a utility room, where a long-term stay person can have a washer and dryer installed. A short walk to a nice-sized bathroom (not at all dinky, like some other places I've stayed), a room that is only for the hot water heater, and a decent-sized bedroom, with wired ethernet (they also had a strong-signal wireless connection as an option). Queen bed with 4 pillows and the standard weird-colored cover. Another big chair, 4-foot-long desk with small chair and outlet (and there are a nice number of those in the rooms), and a walk in closet (?!!), a first that I've ever had at any hotel. And, digital thermostat and room fans above the bed and in the living room. The carpet had some dark stains in the corner near the walk-in, which is about the size of the bathroom! That walk-in is incredibly big and has shelving for hanging a ton of clothing along all 3 walls, including shelves for shoes... someone with a large wardrobe would die for this closet space. You get your OWN phone number which doesn't go through an operator; two televisions in my unit; mirrors in the bedroom, walk-in (full-length), and dining room; more outlets than I have in my own home; what appears to be another ethernet outlet in the living room; and nice views except a big dumpster sitting in the parking area (but it's a covered type); a ton of cable TV with a placard cheat sheet including golf, cartoon, oxygen... movieplex, and alot of local stations; and a couple fake green plants to give you an added depth of imitation warmth. Wow. I love this place. In a heartbeat, you could move here and do most of what you could do at home. It's right near the airport (but the noise wasn't an issue with me), within about a mile of a Publix market (people claim it's the best market), about 3 miles to the Tampa Bucs stadium and that nasty Yankees spring training place), it's a gated, secured place, you can get a breakfast buffet for less than $7 and they serve until 2am, I heard... and you can still order room service. You may even be able to get lunch buffet as well during the week; weekend breakfast lasts till noon, I was told. You also can walk or even jog, I guess, around inside the property. I don't jog, though, so I'm not sure if this is good-jogging-stuff. Mainsail is the BEST value and bang for my buck that I have ever had. And I am not affiliated with any hotel and not paid to write this. For less than a hundred bucks? I asked them how they can make money. Please have this hotel chain in every NFL town, I'd stay at Mainsail instead of the regular chains. For anything "negative" to claim against this property, Mainsail more than makes up for everything. I feel safe, it's beautiful, and you have a wealth of options of how to live (you can pay $1.50 per day to ask for room service, cook in or dine out). Okay, sorry Yankees fans - No, I'm an Orioles fan and I'm not sorry. But you can stay here too. Stayed here for the week of 7/26-8/1/06 and found this place to be everything I wanted it to be. The suites are more like apartments and are really nice and clean. We had a party of nine (3 ADULTS AND 6 CHILDREN in a 2 BEDROOM SUITE) and still had plenty of room left (WE HAD TO BUY AIR MATTRESS FOR THE KIDS). The suite comes with a full kitchen and 2 full bathrooms. I read one review with someone complaining about this hotel, DON"T BELIEVE THEM!!! You would not be dissapointed. This hotel is in the middle of everything. Although it is very near the airport, the noise is not a problem. I have found a place where my family and I can return and not have to worry about whether or not they will find out that there is alot of people in the room. This place is great for large families or couples. The suites provided privacy as the rooms are located on opposite sides of the suite. There are volleyball areas, bar-b-que grills, a pond with swings, pool, jacuzzie, fitness center, laundry facilities and much more. The staff is extremely nice and quick to repsond to your request. I am sure that you will enjoy your stay at Mainsail Suites. Fabulous, service great, atmospere very good. The suite was large, immaculate with excellent facilities and looked quite new. We didn't use the pool, but had two very good meals in the on site restaurant. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful and the general condition and size of the apartment superb. For the cost of the stay this was the best value we've had in Florida yet. We landed at Tampa airport at 6pm and were in our suite by 7pm, that included clearing immigration and collecting bags and car. It's really close to the airport, only 5 minutes away and the best mall for designer shops. Thoroughly recommended. We will return to Mainsail without a doubt, this was 4* accommodation. We stayed for 2 nights I wish it could have been longer. The staff was so friendly and helpful. We had a problem with a televison in the room and with in 30 minutes someone came and fixed it. I found that the noise from the airport was not all that bad. The rooms were VERY CLEAN! Everyone in our family felt they had theyre own space. we had requested a rollaway bed and it was in the room when we arrived. It was an easy drive to Busch Gardens and we will be staying there again. The drinks at the bar were very very good!!! My husband and I stayed here for part of our honeymoon. It is very nice and clean, spacious rooms. We were not charged the correct rate for our stay and the staff was excellent help, they changed the bill as fast as could be expected. I would say that if airplane noise bothers you, you may want to consider another place to stay, because this is only one exit down from the airport. Other than that, this is a GREAT place to stay. We flew to Tampa airport so only intended to stay at Mainsail for a couple of nights but we all loved the place and stayed two extra nights. Free shuttle bus to/from airport was great, very helpful staff. The suite was massive, very clean and great value. The pool was excellent as were all the hotel facilities. Although very close to airport there was no noise and also very close to Busch gardens etc. Would definately stay here if we flew to Tampa again and would highly reccommend. My family and I stayed at the Mainsail Village 14 -17 Aug 05 and we loved it. We requested a room on the first floor near the pool and we were extremely pleased. The Staff was very helpful and went out of their way to ensure that all of our needs were taken care of. The suites are large, clean and comfortable. On our last night we ate at the restaurant and the food was reasonably priced and delicious. We were so happy with the the Mainsail that we have already made reservations for our next trip to Tampa. I highly recommed this hotel for families of 4 our more. My family stayed there the weekend of July 22 for my son's birthday. A family trip to Busch Gardens. An excellent time at this place. We had so much space. A bargain considering if you want the same luxuries at any other place. Newspapers delivered daily just like home. Fully furnished apartment living. Absolutely loved it. This will always be my resting stop in Tampa. Stayed for 1 night 7/3. Wish we could have stayed here the entire vacation! Stayed in a 2 bedroom suite - just like an apartment. 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, dining, living room, & small outside terrace. Used Triple A when booking through the MainSail website & received a very good rate of $105 per night. Very clean! Grounds were very nice. Pool was great. Staff gave good directions, located near places to eat & shop - just down the road. Very quite at night & felt very safe here. Definitely the place to stay if visiting Tampa. This was a wonderful place to stay. We stayed in a one bedroom suite for 2 nights. Check in was quick and easy, and the staff was friendly. We went back the next day to see if we could get a later check out and had no problem with it. The unit was easy to locate. It was very clean. Our unit had a view of the pool and of the small lake. The bed was comfortable. There is a television in the living room and in the bedroom. There is a large walk-in closet with a lot of hangers, a desk, plenty of lighting in the bedroom. The carpet was clean throughout (I walked around with white socks on and they were clean). The kitchen comes equipped with the bare necessities to cook a meal, a full size refrigerator, a full size stove/oven, and a mirowave oven. There is a dining room table with 4 chairs. It reminded us of a time share unit. You need to use your key card to get into the parking lot, the door of the unit, and the pool. We felt safe there. Perhaps the only negative aspect is that it is close to the airport so the planes fly by on occassion. It didn't bother us at all, and the planes do not fly at night (I think the planes stopped flying at 10pm and then started up at 7am). There is a pool which was nice (they supply pool towels) and a fitness room (there were some people using the fitness room) with lockers. We swam in the pool and it was relaxing. There is also a convenience store and a restaurant there. When we return to Tampa we will stay here. We have recommended this place to our friends and co-workers. We just returned from our vacation and I had to comment on the wonderful stay we had the night before our flight at the Mainsail Suites in Tampa. We were so pleasantly surprised with the accommodations there. My husband, myself and our 3 children stayed June 19th, 2005 for 1 night before an early morning flight. We have stayed at several Tampa Hotels before an early morning flight on various park and fly program hotels and not one of them was worth writing about. The Mainsail is another story. These "suites" are more like spacious apartments. We reserved a quad room. 2 bedrooms (with 2 beds in each bedroom), 2 full bathrooms. Quality toiletries, plenty of towels, extra pillows, blankets, etc. A full kitchen, living room, and dining room. We went to the weight room and it was huge. They allowed all 3 of my children, ages 7, 13 & 16 to use the exercise room. We then used the pool which was heated and again, huge. We had a 6:00 a.m. flight. We requested the shuttle to pick us up at 4:40 a.m. He arrived at our room at 4:37 a.m. He loaded the shuttle with our luggage and were at the airport in minutes. The driver was very friendly. We were able to park our car at the Hotel for the length of our vacation. They had no restrictions on the amount of days, etc. They don't advertise a park & fly program but when you call and tell them that's what you want, they told me that I could park the car there as long as I needed to. There was no charge to leave the car there while we were away. When we returned to Tampa, we called Mainsail from a courtesy phone at baggage pick up and we were given friendly instructions on where to wait for the shuttle to pick us up. He arrived soon after and returned us to our car and unloaded our luggage to our vehicle. The rates were 1/2 the price of other hotels near the airport (we were 1/2 mile from Tampa International) and we got twice the room, service, etc. We will stay at the Mainsail every time we have an early flight out of Tampa and we plan on staying there for our next soccer tournement! Due to the reviews here (and I did some research even for our only one night stay), I chose Mainsail. We live near Orlando, and were needing someplace for a one-night stay after a wedding. We REALLY liked it! I got a great rate from writing to the email on the website for a special. They included a hot buffet breakfast in our rate as well - which was great! The one bedroom was very clean, and had two TV's, a balcony, a huge walk-in closet, and a nice kitchen. Also an ironing board in the laundry type room. The toiletries in the bathroom were Neutrogena - nicer than what I expected. Lots of cable channels. Great location! We had dinner at the hotel - cheesesteak sandwhiches - not overpriced at about $6.99 each (we paid an extra $1.00 each for fries instead of chips as well). I definitely would stay here again! My family and I planned a trip to Tampa and had reservations at the Hilton Hotel near the airport. When we got to that hotel, we were dissappointed with our room accommodations. We had 2 adults and 3 small children. We originally reserved a room with two double beds and when we arrived, they only had a king. My husband went on line and found this hotel. WOW!! It was like a home away from home. We couldn't believe the size of the suite for the money we paid. We would have paid more at the Hilton for a small room. Also, we saved money because of the full kitchens so I could cook for my family instead of restaurants. I recommend this hotel for families like ours. Very clean, staff was excellent, and the grounds were very beautiful. Next year, we have no doubt where we are going to stay. I was quite pleased with this facility - it is more like condos than a hotel - just a few minutes from the airport and the location is convenient to major routes. There's not alot to do in the very immediate area, so a rental car is necessary (a whopping $10/day from Payless Rentals at the Tampa airport) - but you are close to the major highways to go in to Tampa, over to Orlando or to head South. A good touring base. The rooms are apartments - full kitchen, living area, bedroom, bath and dining table. I had decided 1 week was too long to spend cooped up in a small hotel room with my husband - after awhile you just can't take another restaurant meal - I'm glad I booked here - the staff is very pleasant, the rooms are well-appointed & very clean - almost like small model apartments. There are no elevators, so try not to book on the 3rd floor if you have alot of luggage! We were fine on the 2nd floor - I had been worried about hearing people above or below me, but it wasn't a problem. The restaurant/bar at the clubhouse is reasonably priced with a sandwich/light entree menu - the food was above average not great, but OK with very good service. I highly recommend this location if travelling with children - shop around for prices - we paid under $100/night. Great property for anyone especially FAMILIES. We just returned after staying in the 2 bedroom suite with 3 kids for a week. Couldn't ask for a better layout. Don't let the 2-star rating fool you. This is an excellent property and the staff was friendly and helpful. Good location also, next to airport and expressway(don't worry, you don't hear much noise) so very easy to navigate around Tampa and to beaches and still find your way back. Only downfall is that it doesn't have elevators and we were on the third floor so luggage was a pain. It is a very large property so if you want easy pool access, I would ask for it at time of reservation. I will definetly stay here again when on Florida's west coast We went to Tampa for the Outback bowl and had a wonderful stay. There were six folks in my party so we got a one bedroom suite and a two bedroom suite. The rooms were spacious, clean and had everything we needed. We stayed for three days and had no problems whatsoever. Dishes and cooking utensils were provided and although we didn't do too much cooking, it came in handy for breakfast and late night snacks. The staff were courteous and professional. Mainsail is less like going to a hotel and more like going over to a friend's apartment and watching it while he's out of town. Great place to stay, I wouldn't stay anywhere else. Go Dawgs! We picked this hotel for our four-day Tampa stay based on the reviews on tripadvisor, and we thank the previous reviewers. Before we came, we were concerned that Expedia had given this place 2 stars, and we were worried that the previous reviewers were describing something too good to be true. After staying, we will not trust Expedia star ratings, especially after driving by some of the places they had given 3 and 4 stars. And, we proudly tell let everyone that the previous reviewers who gave this place 5 stars on this site sure knew what they were talking about. As for our experience, we booked a 2 BR suite through Expedia, but when we arrived they had us in a 1 BR suite. They showed me the reservation from Expedia that said 1 BR, even though my confirmation said 2 BR. Despite the fact that Expedia screwed up, Mainsail upgraded our reservation to a 2 BR without charge and without me having to argue with anyone, call Expedia, or anything else. This took all of about 3 minutes. I appreciate that the front desk caught this before I did, and the problem was fixed before we were even sent to our room. When we arrived, we found our room to be clean and spacious. Having the table set with plates, glasses, and silverware was a nice touch. Let me just say that having 2 bedrooms for 4 adults is sure nicer than having all 4 adults crammed into one hotel room - with this there is really no comparison, even though the prices were comparable. With that thought, we had wondered if Mainsail was too good to be true, but upon arriving, it was all we expected and more. We also feel very safe here - there is a fence around the entire complex, gates that require your room key to open on the road, a patrol apparently by a "real" sheriff, and emergency phones all over. But the area around the hotel looks to be decent, so the security is, in our opinion, above and beyond what is actually needed. One bit of advice is that the although it's a "full kitchen" the cooking utensils are quite limited - we had to share the one pot that most resembled a frying pan between making eggs and potatoes for breakfast - so if you're planning to cook a gourmet mail in the in-unit kitchen, you'd better bring your own pots and pans. To sum it all up, we recommend this place and we will stay here again should we ever travel to the Tampa area. Thank you tripadvisor.com and previous reviewers for helping us to make the right choice. We stayed a couple days ago on an Orbitzsaver rate - during a very quiet time at the hotel. This is a fully gated / secure property near the airport. Airport pickup was great with a very friendly driver who helped extensively with baggage. The rooms are huge for a 1BR - with a walk in closet that was big enough to have a crib in it. Upgraded kitchen, two seat balcony, dining room table, full cable. The onsite store sells wines / beer / food at very reasonable prices - Kendall Jackson for $15 for example - and the restaurant is very creative food combos. We requested a crib, which was a Graco portable, and they gave us a brand new infant blanket to use - nice touch!! Looked like a nice fitness center, but did not go in - laundry was up near the store. Very friendly staff and very helpful. Minor gripes - we stayed in building 800, which is a five minute hike to the pool / rest / store. We had a 3rd floor unit, with no elevator, so be ready to hike up your luggage. The pool was not heated - we did not ask if it ever is...ask. No in room menus - so had to go get one for room service. It looks like this may be only a partial hotel - possibly most are condos - but don't know for certain. We loved it. I stayed at a Mainsail in Tampa & I absolutely loved it! The suites are very spacious and have everything you need! I would not hesitate to stay there again. The Mainsail is spacious, clean, and fun. For those of you visiting Tampa this is the place to go. The late night fun at the Pub at the Mainsail is awesome and the employees there are great. Say hello to Jimbo at the bar, and all the Southwest crews that are there nightly providing great times. We stay here with our sons sports team and WOW..it was really great!...Huge apartment-like suites...I loved the fact taht we had a living room and weren't all crammed in a hotel room....For the same price....Can't wait for another tournament. just returned from 5 day stay at Mainsail, everything was wonderful..We stayed ina 2 bedroom 2 bath suite. everything was spotless, rooms cleaned daily, newspaper delievered everyday, also starbucks coffee in the lobby., 24 hrs. .Ate at the restaurant one night and food was great, even watched red sox game on widescreen..Laundry was located in main building with plenty of machines and reasonable price, I also believe you can ask for a unit with machines as well..Since we were bringing our daughter to college all shopping was very close with large stores within a 15 minute drive..Easy on and off highway and airport nearby..Beware of fast drivers though ,speeding past you on the right hand side, they say Boston drivers are bad, I believe Tampa is worst..Visited St Pete one day and the beaches are beautiful, as are the homes along the channels..Would definitely stay there again, for our purposes it was the perfect choose. Recently stayed at this hotel during a long weekend away with my wife. The hotel is tricky to find, but once I learned the area, t was fine. Just remember to use Hillsborough Ave exit. Place is next to highway and close to airport. Even though airport is nearby, it was very quiet. The hotel is made up of 10 different buildings so if you want something close to pool, remember to request one of the closer buildings. There are no elevators, so if you get a 2nd or 3rd floor room, you will need to climb stairs. The room was nice with a living room, kitchen, and bedroom. We went to store and got things for our stay. The pool is nice and warm, but not too big. the fitness center is very large and has different equipment though not the newest stuff you might have at your local gym. Bar was comfortable with good atmosphere. If I need to stay in the area again, I would use this hotel again. Although this hotel is situated 5-10 minutes from the airport, it was not problem. No sound issues. The 2 bedroom suite my husband and 2 kids stayed in worked really well for us. The suite was clean when we arrived. Only thing...the toaster was broken, but we didn't request a new one. The hotel site is great for walking. I did this one day after I dropped my husband kids off at Adventure Island. The bedroom configuration was weird. Each bedroom had 2 full-size beds in them (which was really too small for my 6'2" husband!), but one of the beds was situated right in front of the big walk in closets (they were really nice!). Can't be a big person to get around the bed into the closet. If we got a room with queen-size beds, it would be only 1 bed in each bedroom and that would not fly with my 2 kids (girl-13, boy-8). So my husband dealt with the full-size bed and it was fine. Two days we didn't get our towels refreshed, but we helped ourselves to the closets in the hall. Actually, we had to call housekeeping for towels, a spatula and a dish rag on separate occasions. The pool was really nice. It's heated....which I could not understand--a heated pool in Florida, but it was really nice. Couldn't keep the kids out of it. The fitness room was huge!! The biggest I've seen in a hotel. It has 4 tvs. One of the treadmills didn't work, but they had 3 others to use. We did not eat at the restaurant on-site. We ate out most nights and had our breakfast in. We went to the supercenter walmaart and bought breakfast foods. Busch Gardens and Adventure Island are about 15-20 minutes away. We went to Clearwater Beach which is about 25 minutes away. Perfect location to get to these places. Also, our building at the hotel was right outside a lake. My son stayed at the lake most times catching frogs and lizards!! He just loved it. I would definitely recommend this hotel to families and to couples and for family reunions. Very nice and pleasant stay. I would definitely stay there again! Oh, the front desk was very helpful. We actually went to see a movie at a mall that they recommended. The movie theater (AMC) and mall was very nice. We did some shopping after the movie. I had to hurry and get out of that mall or I would have to buy another piece of luggage to get my things home!! ; ) We needed a place for four, with two separate bedrooms. It's always too expensive to pay for two hotel rooms, so I searched tripadvisor and found Mainsail offered a two bedroom suite. I was a little leery because it's an extended stay hotel, but we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the suite hotel. The grounds are spread out, with ponds between the buildings, with lots of birds to watch. Warning, you have to walk outside to get to the lobby and restaurant area. We had beautiful weather, so this was no problem. The pool was a decent size and was heated. The suite was large, with two separate bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, a dining area and a kitchen. It was very clean. We were only there for one night, but wished we could have stayed longer. We got the room for $204, which was less than half the cost of two rooms elsewhere. I was glad that I read the reviews before we went, because we knew to ask for a first floor room because there is no elevators. The $6.95 breakfast buffet was pretty good for hotel buffets. Overall, we were extremely happy. If you're one of those travelers that likes to be completely spoiled and pampered by the place you stay, then this is not the place for you. If you have a large family, or group of friends, and trying to watch the dollars spent, then this place is an excellent choice. We would definitely stay there again. The suites at Mainsail are huge and well appointed. Our suite was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We had no problems with the room or the staff and were happy with the location and price. It pays to have a car there though as most attractions, shopping and restaurants are not in close walking distance. We caught the complimentary shuttle from the airport, very friendly driver, then hired a car. There is lots of secure parking at the Mainsail village. I would definitely stay there again if I ever return to Tampa. Stayed from 7/4/06 - 7/7/06 with our 2 teenaged sons....quick access to highway was a plus - the accomodations were very nice. We were in the 3rd floor of the building next to the pool and clubhouse (bldg. 100). 2 bedrooms, TV in each, living area, kitchen area, 2 bathrooms, nice big walk in closet in one of hte BR's. Enough privacy for teens and adults both! The pool was very large in comparison to most hotels - the photo on their website does not lie! Lots of seating area around the pool, too. We ate at the pub our first night there - snack food - nachos....boring but edible. Kind of like any sports pub. A meal there the following night after a day at Busch Gardens was better (bruschetta pizza for me and chicken penne in ricotta cheese sauce for DH). The beds were comfy for all of us - no complaints whatever about that. And although we were about 5 min. from the Tampa Int'l Airport, we had no issues w/noise whatsoever...the only time we actually heard the planes was when we were in the pool area during the day - and even then they didn't fly right over, we only heard the rumble. The front-desk staff was very helpful. They even have a computer and printer available for free internet access - I was albe to print off our boarding passes for our flight home for nothing! They offer a breakfast buffet - we didn't have it or see what was offered. They have complimentary Starbucks coffee in the lobby - nice! Bought a couple of bagels to go with the free coffee for breakfast. There's also a coffeemaker in the suite, and free coffee filterpacks (reg. & decaf both) The fridge was handy for keepnig milk for the kids, and botteld water. Any questions, please feel free to email :-) Staff was prompt and very helpful-from the cleaning staff to the front desk. Everyone went out of there way to help us. From finding places to dine to things to do. They even had a file box with printed directions which was very helpful. My only complaint was Small bugs on the counter and inside the dishwasher. That rate is a graet deal for what you get-looked like a small condo. My family stayed here from July 2-7 2005. We had a pleasant experience. We were pleased with the size of the suites. We have three teenage boys and it was nice for them to have their own space. The beds could have been more comfortable. They were very soft. I'm used to firmer mattresses. I liked having the full kitchen, even though we ended up eating out most days. We purchased snacks, drinks and sandwich stuff which was great to have around. The kids enjoyed being able to swim from 8am until 11pm. The airplanes really were not too much of a bother. We were out most of the day and they didn't seem that loud at night. All in all we had a great stay! I would stay there again. My fiance and I recently stayed at this hotel while we were in Tampa to go to Busch Gardens. I checked TripAdvisor's website prior to booking a reservation and was very impressed with the reviews. This place is definitely a bang for your buck! There's a clubhouse which has a convenience store, a bar/restaurant, pool table, fitness center, and the pool. The staff was very nice (w/the exception of our housekeeper talking on her cell phone while cleaning our room). Since the suites are practically located right next to the Airport, we got the opportunity to see planes fly over the highway (while traveling down Hillsborough Ave) many times. Despite the airport's vicinity, we never had any noise distractions. The only reason I would not give this hotel a five is b/c of a loud neighbor we encountered during our stay. We were located in building 300 on the first floor, which meant we picked up any noise from the 2nd and 3rd floors. The walls are paper thin! Apparently the guests above us had young kids b/c they would run back and forth throughout the suite late into the night. Saturday night we got so fed up with the noise that we called the front desk. I asked them to just give them a courtesy call to keep the noise down. They went a step further by actually sending the security guard over to their room....HOW NICE! The noise stopped immediately afterwards! Without a doubt, I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Although other reviews have said staying on the 3rd floor was a problem (b/c there's no elevators), I would say go ahead and request one in order to avoid the noise problems we had. My family stayed at Mainsail Feb. 21 - Feb. 24. The rooms are clean and neat. The only drawback is that it is not a resort for vacationers. I found mostly business people and airline employees. I had booked my stay with Expedia and they messed up my reservation. I had booked a 2 bedroom suite and when I arrived was told Expedia had booked a 1 bedroom suite. They did accomodate us very well and found a 2 bedroom suite which was much more expensive but did not charge us any more $$. I would definately recommend Mainsail to others. Stayed at the Mainsail for a week in mid March. The unit was spacious and the grounds quite nice. We like to make use of cooking facilities, and chose the Mainsail because it featured full kitchens. The problem with this was that the kitchen was not adequately equipped to cook all that much. We all agreed that with the difficulties of cooking in the units, they make it so that you almost have to eat at the restaurant. Maid service was ok, but on some days our towels were not restocked. The hotel had many spring breakers, but we knew this ahead of time and this was not a problem for us. Made use of the laundry facilities, which were fine. Nice pool and hot tub also. All in all, it was a good spot to stay for the week, with pretty good access to the airport, shopping, highways, etc. We spent our days golfing, and the only complaint is the lack of the advertised cooking facilities in the unit. Also, if you plan on BBQing, the grills are not gas but briquette. Not a problem as long as you have a little extra time and a few cold ones! : ) This hotel was fine for what we needed. The suites were very large and clean, newly painted I think, and some new furniture. Bathrooms and kitchen were spotless. They have many rooms and I don't think their pool could accommodate a full house as it is very small. They weren't too swift in replacing the pool towels. Cleaning service was timely and efficient. We asked for the breakfast rate, which was about $8.00 or 9.00 dollars a day added to our room rate. This was a bargain for 4 people (2 adults and 2 kids). The breakfast buffet was adequate, but had the same stuff every day. The usual price is $6.99 per person, still not bad, but the room rate was the better deal. One great feature is the free Starbucks coffee (or tea) all day (yes, I said FREE). A washer/dryer of our own would have been great, but you have to rent them and our next destination had them so we just waited to get there. It is very close to the airport, but plane noise was not an issue. Overall it was a pleasant experience and I would stay there again if need be. Nice and clean. Floors are thin and heard thumping from the room above at 4am. It was OK overall.

The check in process was poor, the woman who registered me was disinterested in her job (not friendly, just routine), but it didn’t concern me. I mentioned we needed an early shuttle, I confirmed via email ran 24 / 7 to the airport. The same woman told me, no shuttle available at 4:30am, we should call a cab. I insisted that was one of the main reasons for booking this hotel, she listened and then told me to call a cab. Another employee told her and I, a shuttle would be available (I think it was to move me on my way). Rather than risk it at 4:30am, I elected to keep the rental car another day. Not a big deal to keep the rental another day, but I did confirm and have it in writing We requested a roll-away, no mention made during registration, my wife called when we went to our room, she spoke with a woman, we then went to dinner and returned 90 minutes later….no roll away. My wife called again, she told her they were still checking into it??? She called back a few minutes later and got a gentleman named Jason who was able to get us a roll away within a few minutes. Again not a big deal, but the process should be better, we had a very early flight and some tired children. Now the big deal, at 1:30am someone opened our door using an electronic keycard, luckily we had the latch on, so when I yelled the person took off. I then dead bolted the door (I thought our teenage daughter had done so, but she only latched it) Why would someone be able to open our door with an electronic keycard, this is not acceptable!!! Even with the deadbolt my family did not feel safe afterwards. We needed a place with lots of room for us and our two children. For the price and location, our experience was very disappointing. The restaurant's food was below average and the bedrooms smelled like an old cabin in which the sheets and comforters hadn't been washed in years! Not worth the money by any stretch! Poor customer service by both night and day manageros of the complex! Was given 3 different nightly rates and fortunately I had my confirmation print out to verify actual cost. If it wasn't for that, they try make it look like I was full of it and didn't know what I was talking about! If you don't mind airplanes flying over head on initial take off or landing than this is the place for you. Also, HIGHLY recommend to ask if there any conventions going on or tournaments. The 3 nights I stayed there a basketball tournament for teenagers was in town and all my neighbors were thugs running around the complex like a bunch of a wild animals, bouncing their basketballs up against the walls, steps and vehicles and being loud and did not care about being confronted about the noise! Fred Sanford had better furniture in his house than this place. Dishes were put back in the cabinets from the prior tenants cooking without washing them! Highly recommend a room away from the stairs going to the parking area and get a room on the 3rd floor (less noise)... A decent gym and laundry facility to end on good note. My boyfriend and I stayed at the Mainsail for 2 nights for the American Idol concert in Tampa. We chose this hotel because of tripadvisor. Overall the hotel room was roomy but we couldn't sleep very well because the beds were horrible. The queen size bed in our room seem like it was a full size. The bed was very uncomfortable. The mattress was thin and the springes seems to be poking at us all night. I am use to a large king size beds with big fluffy pillows and we did not get that at Mainsail. First off we had a bad check-in experience because the key card to our first room was not working so we had to stand outside to wait for someone to fix the problem. I wasn't going to wait another 20 mins so I asked for another room. We were tired from a long trip and wanted to rest but couldn't really rest because of the bed. I went to take a shower and the shower head was dirty looking and old and the pressure wasn't very good. Also the small patio area where the screen door was had an infestation of ants running along the screen door. I was too tired by then to call front desk to move us again so I just decided to ignore it and not go outside. The noise from the planes and police sirens also kept us up from time to time. When it came to the food, I ordered our dinner from the hotels only restaurant on site and it wasn't worth the money I paid for. We ordered a steak well done and it was medium rare. I also ordered a salmon salad and the salmon was also raw. Thank goodness we had a microwave in the room to cook the food longer. As for location it was pretty central to everything except for the fact that it was in a bad area and too close to the airport. One of the gates were broken so the whole since of security wasn't really there at all. There were not too many restaurants around but we did go to the Denny's down the street after a late night of gambling. I wish we were in a different area of Tampa. For the room size I guess we got our $$$$ monies worth but the beds were horrible. I rather be in a 3 or 4 star next time with a smaller room with a better bed and a better shower. So if you plan on not sleeping much then go stay at the Mainsail. The couch was more comfortable than the bed. However I have to say that the staff was very nice in the front lobby. They did give us good directions to the casino and downtown. So I will give them a 2 star for that. But if I would to return to Tampa, I would not stay there again. I knew I shouldn't of expect much from a 2 star hotel. Sincerely, tourist from Jax, FL to Tampa, FL I checked in on a Wednesday with my Wife and two children. We were given a room at the very end of the development. The development is made up of apartment buildings and it is a long walk to the pool area (we drove). We visited the bar for a drink and the bartender was more interested in getting her days off talking to her manager than getting our drinks. As we had a 2 bed room with a kitchen we went for a little grocery shopping. We could not cook a pizza because there were no pans, no paper towels, no washing liquid, nothing to work with so the kitchen was useless. The kids were walking around the room with no shoes on and their feet were black with dirt. Beds were not made up. There was a party in the parking lot consisting of cars being parked with their doors open with the radios playing loud rap music at 4am. You can hear both above and below units. The toilet was running Thursday morning and I reported it. It was not fixed until that night after I complained again and was told I did not call that morning. Friday morning we left to go to Busch Gardens, on our return at 8pm our door was left open (all day)the handle fell off after we closed it. After complaining again, I was told I could not be compensated as there was no manager and had paid in full through the internet. I WAS GIVEN A BUSINESS CARD TO CONTACT SOMEONE LATER. Worst Hotel I Have Ever Stayed At. Very noisy, rude employees, and negligent. Very dirty room. I gave up a room at the HYATT to stay at this hotel thinking it would be convienient for the kids. Never Again. Needing a single night hotel stay before I left for my 7 day cruise, I researched hotels in the Tampa area. After reading the many positive reviews of the Suites at Mainsail Village, I expected a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, my experience at the Suites at Mainsail Village will never be described as pleasant. #1 - Free Shuttle Service They are great at getting you to the airport to leave but don't expect them to show up after you call for your complimentary shuttle pick-up. I called twice and each time was connected to the driver who answered with a rude "What!?!" each time. To use the words of the airport workers at the Tampa red terminal, the Mainsail pick-up is an "urban legend" as I was told they have only ever seen people being dropped off in Mainsail shuttles and never picked-up. After calling a third time, I was told to take a cab to the hotel and they would reimburse me. Once I checked in, I had to fight for them to reimburse me the $15 I paid to get there. I asked to speak to the manager (John) who only said "Wow, he never picked you up? Sorry." And that was all. His attitude was that he couldn't be bothered. I did get a chuckle when the desk clerk trainee finally paid me the taxi fare and then asked "will you need a parking pass?" #2 - The Broken Luggage When you arrive, you can park your own car near your building or they have a golf cart shuttle that will transport you and your bags to your room. My cart driver pushed my suitcase into the back of the cart (it had a flat bed area in the back of the cart that was framed by wooden fence-like stakes). As it landed with a giant "thud" he looked at me and sheepishly said "Oh! I hope you didn't have anything breakable in there." Upon arriving at the building, the cart driver took my suitcase out, put it on the ground and as I went to wheel it away I noticed it wasn't rolling. Why? because it was missing the entire right side wheel assembly! When I pointed out the damage to my suitcase, the cart driver first professed that I brought it to the hotel that way. Only when we walked to the flat bed area of the cart and we see the entire wheel assembly did he admit he must have caught it on the wooden stake frame and asked if I wanted him to call the office. John, the manager, first said that they would have their maintenance man fix my suitcase. Only when another desk clerk pointed out that my case now had a large, gaping hole and probably couldn't be fixed, did John start to become concerned about the situation. He asked how much my suitcase cost and then told me I paid too much money for it. He left to "research" the cost of a new, large, Eddie Bauer suitcase (as per the other desk clerk on duty) and didn't return for 20 minutes while I waited at the front desk. I asked for a replacement suitcase and he offered that he would have the shuttle take me to Wal-Mart! I asked to be taken to Macys as they have a larger selection and would carry a suitcase comparable in features and quality to the one they ruined. He then tried to tell me that Macy's was closed after 6pm on a Saturday. Luckily, I had called Macy's while waiting for him to do his research and they were open until 9pm. I cannot help but think that he was playing a game with me so I would be forced to get a cheap suitcase and thus, save the Suites at Mainsail Village some money. After another 30 minutes of arguing, John left and sent a desk clerk to give me $200 so I could get a new suitcase. #3 - Cleanliness The room was fairly clean. The carpets have seen better days as the one in the bedroom had a few large stains on it and the carpets seemed to be unravelling at the seams in many places in the room. The corridor to my room was lined with trash and various items. I noticed that the piles of trash were never moved, even after I pointed them out to the staff. The kicker was the roll-a-way mattress left in the hall. It was very dirty and appeared to be soaking wet. It was also never removed during my stay. In short, while the rooms are large and of the "apartment" variety, I would steer clear of the Suites at Mainsail Village. It's good days are very far behind where they are now.
