I felt the need to write a review on this site as I know that many brides check out tripadvisor before booking their reception venues.. We were married last month (Sep 06) and our reception was held in the Elite Suite at the Elfordleigh. I cannot speak any more highly of the staff at this hotel - in particular the Wedding Coordinator, Julie and Function Manager Chris. The organisation and professionalism during the wedding planning and on the day only proved that this hotel has the art of wedding functions perfected to a tea.. Nothing was too much trouble and the service received on the day was first class (particularly as we had bad weather and the hotel had to rearrange a few things last minute). Its fair to say that some parts of the hotel are in need of a bit of modernisation although the Honeymoon Suite was really lovely with superb views and a four poster bed.. We had the most wonderful wedding day and we didn’t even get to make the most of the beautiful views and patio because of the weather, but it really didn’t matter.. This hotel understands the importance of getting it right on the day and I would 100% recommend them to other couples considering getting married there! It's a lovely place and we shall definitely go back, maybe taking the golf clubs next time. Helpful staff, big rooms and nice firm beds. Small gripes: there was a function every night which produced a bit of noise till past midnight; the brasserie food was a bit stodgy and this put us off trying the more expensive restaurant. But it's a beautiful place and they make you feel very welcome. Great pool and sauna etc too. Had a fantastic time here, staff excellent, manager superb. Leisure facilities great, nice swimming pool. Big family room for 5. Breakfast great. Nice surroundings, nothing bad to say about this place. Definately recommend and would stay there again I was greeted at the hotel by the super views over the golf course and the piece and qiuet. the hotel staff at the reception were more than helpful, as i needed help lifting my suitcase from my car. The rooms are spacious and very clean, and again the view from my room was great. The facilities are really good, the indoor swimming pool is lovely although i did not use the fitness and beauty facilitys. The food menu is extensive and again the quality is of the foodsecond to none. Well worth a visit. We stayed here for a wedding earlier this year and it was the perfect setting. The weather was supurb and the food was great. The boys all took full advantage of the golf course and us girls of the great wine list. The rooms were very clean as were the common areas, the staff were all very friendly. We have stayed at several hotels in devon but this is the first i have felt the need to write home about. My colleague and I stayed three nights here on business. The building is a converted stately home, so the walls are a bit thin and you can hear people when they tramp up and down the corridors. Having said that, when it’s quiet, it really is quiet – you can’t hear a thing. We ate in the bar each night, plenty of choice on the menu and nothing to complain about. Breakfast was great, with the option of fish. The breakfast waitress was nice and remembered my colleague’s idiosyncrasy. Some rooms look out over a courtyard, some over the golf course and the surrounding countryside, which is green as far as the eye can see. The rooms have a flat screen TV. There’s a gym, sauna and pool. I spent an hour in the pool, it is quite big and there were maybe three other people in the water with me. The only possible downside is that we were told all rooms were non smoking, yet the rooms had ash trays in. Having said that, the rooms were not smelly. Next time we’re in Plymouth, this would be our first choice. Stayed at the hotel for a weekend as it was a friends wedding on the saturday actually in the hotel. I found the hotel in need of upgrading the decor, however the staff, food and rooms very very good. The wedding reception day and evening were very good and the service was great all the staff were friendly and very helpful. The health club was clean and modern and again staff helpful and friendly. This hotel is ok.....staff are quite freindly....we only spent one night here, good for a one night stop over.

Hotel is rather dated and needs updating Staff seemed uninterested and unskilled in their roles. Lunch and Dinner menus were the same and very few choices and for the price was poor, breakfast terrible. Room was large and clean but did not have radiator turned on and was therefore cold in the room with outside temperature just 1 degree. Bed was broken. Leisure facilies good, golf course interesting but a bit of a pysical challenge. Difficult to find hotel. The price of accommodation matches the quality of the hotel. I would recomend the leisure side but not the Hotel. Stayed here in Feb whilst attending a wedding in the area. The reception was actually in the hotel. The room we stayed in was pretty big, and the bathroom was too. Guess we had a family room as included a double bed and a set of bunk beds. The light in the rooms is pretty good and they back out on to the golf course. All pretty standard but clean and quiet. Overall the hotel does have a bit of a strange smell and it was pretty cold throughout (OK it was a very very cold day in Devon but all the same the heating did not appear to be on in most places). The room where the reception was held was good, lots of space, nice areas, bar and dance floor. Overall, an OK place to stay for a wedding but wouldn't rush back for another reason. This was a last minute get away over Easter weekend. Never been to Plymouth so thought it might be nice. This hotel seemed good value for money and relatively close to Plymouth itself, but with a countryside feel to it. Food and service in the brasserie/bar area were fairly good, if a bit pricey and not very varied. The atmosphere, however, was dreadful though. It felt like eating in a social centre or the entertainment hut at a campsite. Very draughty, uncomfortable chairs, kids running riot with pool cues. Not what we expected - perhaps the term 'brasserie' was a little over egging the pudding. Canteen would have been better. The room was okay, apart from a whole chest of drawers collapsing when opened and a door hanging off the built in wardrobe. Can't help us for thinking Fawlty Towers. Breakfast was a farce. Basically too busy, food was cold and on our last day there rain poured through the conservatory air vents - when we reported it to recpetion we were given no apology or help at all. Reception staff were, quite frankly, rubbish. All in all, very pretty site, lovely golf course grounds. Hotel isn't worth the money, even if you get a deal! after one week ove great traveling we decided to tay at Elfordleigh hotel, before catching the ferry to France wath a disappoinment!!!! * the place is very hold, with a great need of cleanning and rennovation * the food felt froozen and reheated * you could heard the macrowave bleep hold the time. * breakfast was just as bad, and when talking with the staff, no one cared!!!
