5 of 5  Great place to stay to explore the city, A TripAdvisor Member, Binfield, Berkshire, June 21, 2009

Good location (close to Singapore Flyer, Marina and Suntec Malls). Excellent rooms with every concievable facility (although a little smaller than some hotel rooms in its class). Service very good and would certainly recommend this hotel if you wanted more from your city break than "just somewhere to lay your head". Try and find yourself some time whilst you are there to spend around the roof top pool- the service there is fabulous- certainly on a level with hotels such as The Four Seasons. Complimentary fruit, papaers, magazines, sun tan lotion. Chilled water replaced every hour and the most wonderful complimentary sorbets delivered on a regular basis. Well done Mandarin Oriental, we shall certainly seek out other Mandarin Orientals on our future trips around the world.

5 of 5  perfect location, A TripAdvisor Member, hyderabad, June 20, 2009

the location is perfect just opposite marina bay. we spent our new year there to see the fireworks display. of course to get a view of the marina u have to pay little more but it was worth it. the whole hotel is done in an oriental theme. the rooms are lovely. downside being the pool area and a lousy gym. however proximity to the mall is good and so do not eat at the hotel which can be expensive - just hop into the mall and there are tons of good restaurants on level 2

5 of 5  good location, quality hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Denmark, June 20, 2009

i have stay there in aug 2005 and july 2007. both times were excellent. nice breakfast buffet. nice standard in rooms.

5 of 5  I am a Mandarin fan, A TripAdvisor Member, Delhi, India, June 15, 2009

It's always a pleasure to stay at the Mandarin. Theirs' may not be the most spacious hotel in Singapore but they always make up for that by their excellent service. This is one hotel where I feel pampered on each of my visits. The staff is excellent and very courteous. The rooms are very cozy and their mattresses are probably the most comfortable I've ever slept in. Rooms are well-equipped with the latest electronic equipment and excellent quality toiletries, though their standard TV remote still remains a mystery to me as I always end up struggling with it. But apart from this small niggle, stay at the Mandarin is always a flawless experience. Check out their pool and health center, they're undoubtedly the best in Singapore. And not to speak of Melt, the world cafe which feature exclusive cuisines from all over the world.

Overall, I would definitely recommend a stay at the Mandarin, no wonder it has been rated amongst the 50 best hotels in the world.

5 of 5  Awesome!, A TripAdvisor Member, Mumbai, June 10, 2009

Everything was great, upto 5 star standards. One of the best places I have stayed at. Beautiful view from the room. Everything was perfect. Superb staff. Great place for a romantic getaway.

5 of 5  Absolutely Devine, A TripAdvisor Member, Pilbara, June 8, 2009

We spent 3 nights here in late May in a club room. We couldn't have asked for more. Service was exceptional, food excellent and the evening cocktails to die for. We enjoyeda coulpes spa treatment which was fabulous. We will certianly be returning to this hotel in future.

5 of 5  Stunningly beautiful hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Seoul, South Korea, June 5, 2009

The Mandarin Oriental in Singapore is absolutely gorgeous! The lobby, the restaurants, the rooms, everything is just amazing.

I have to say that the room I stayed in was one of the best ever! It was beautifully appointed with all modern amenities and extremely comfortable, too. The desk was lovely. The bed was lovely. The bathroom was lovely. Everything was stunning! You could do business at the professional-looking desk or you could enjoy the amazing view or you could take a nice shower in their rain showerhead shower or go for a relaxing bath in the luxurious tub.

The only thing is the hotel is not located on Orchard Road, so it is a drive to many places.

SUMMARY: I loved this place. The location was not so convenient for me, but the view was spectacular. I would definitely stay here again.

5 of 5  REFRESHING, A TripAdvisor Member, MUM, June 4, 2009

Its one of the finest hotels in Singapore near Singapore eye. The rooms have very good view and one can see atleast one attraction from their room.

Breakfast is exclusive with all that one can dream of.

Rooms are very cozy and the suite room is amazing. Though expensive its worth spending time and money.

5 of 5  Great Place to Relax and be Looked after, A TripAdvisor Member, Sydney Australia, June 3, 2009

We agree with the wraps in the recent reviews -- we too had a Club Room (upgraded complimentary to a Harbour View I think it is called). The room was good and the bed very comfortable. Bathroom good too (although if I was picky the bath was fine but not particularly big).

But the service and friendliness was what we thought set it apart. The Club is very comfortable, great food and drink, and the people there couldnt do enough for us. A limo from the airport thrown in and an 8pm checkout for a late plane were appreicated inclusions. The spa -- particularly in our case the couples suite -- was luxurious and comfortable. As another reviewer said, on the pricey side but a good treat. Same friendly and attentive service at the pool and the fitness centre and probably anywhere else!

There is a bit of construction around the area at the moment but it didn't interfere at all and there was no noise that we noticed. Until it gets finished, you might say that some other hotels are a little closer to areas you might want to be -- particularly as it gets steamy if you walk -- but if you don't want to walk off the excellent food there, there are plenty of taxis to take you anywhere for only a few dollars.

We couldn't fault the service from anyone and it made it a great and relaxing few days. We'd love to be back.

5 of 5  Love the Club Lounge and Pool and Spa, A TripAdvisor Member, muir77, June 1, 2009

The best things about this hotel are the Club Lounge, the pool and the spa. The room is ok (stayed in a Club Cityview). The view from the room is fantastic. The bed is comfy, the bathroom is fairly big although it only has one sink (much prefer double sinks). But its not the room that is the best part about this hotel. Its the service and the way you are made to feel in the Lounge, pool and spa. You just get spoilt rotten. In the lounge: Champagne for breakfast, snacks all day, gorgeous food and more champagne in the evenings. Poolside: sunglasses cleaned, loads of ice cold water and ice towels for your face, snacks all day long like frozen grapes and sorbets. Spa: great staff and great treatments. The best spa expericence ive had in a long time. Pricey - yes. But worth it. Im a big fan.

5 of 5  Amazing Experience - even if you only do it once., A TripAdvisor Member, Australia, May 28, 2009

Wow.. First class treatment all the way. We stayed here for three nights to experience a little more of SIngapore than a stop over lounge. From the limo driver to the reception staff, our first taste of 5 star treatment was addictive! We were rushed straight up to our upgraded suite and checked in whilst sitting in the living room of our suite. Long stemmed red roses, tapas and wine also greeted us on arrival.

The flowers and tapas and wine were changed every day, the room was sparkling and nothing was too much trouble. Every morning at breakfast, we were greeted by name. How they remembered this I have no idea! Each morning we were given our favourite table and unobtrusively served coffee.

The evenings were spent in the Lounge with a fabulous Jazz singer, plenty of free tapas (HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE CRUNCHY ANCHOVIES AND WASABI NUTS) and lots of lovely cocktails.

Would definitely go back to Singapore, even just to stay at this hotel! And the weddings were lovely to watch as well.

5 of 5  The BEST of the BEST, A TripAdvisor Member, Mount Gambier, Australia, May 27, 2009

My beloved and I had to wait over 3 1/2 years to do the honeymoon thing (kids in uni), but THIS particular hotel chain and their staff made it very much worth the wait.

Impeccable rooms, fastidious in detail, and the most wonderful of Staff who excelled in every area. Marion and I in our future travel will always seek out the OM Hotel chain, and hopefully they see fit to open in Australia sometime in the future.

The Hotel is beautiful, but it's the Staff and services proffered that make it such a stand out from a lot of others. Our room on both occasions looked out to a harbor view and that in itself was simply stunning. If you're looking for an affordable Hotel, where you'll feel pampered, valued and be happily ensconced in a few days of luxury then this is for You too.

Special thanks to ALL the Staff who made our stays memorable in so many ways, Sherrin at Reception, Sumit at Reception, Chris at Melt Restaurant (Good luck in Marrakesh Chis), Jack in Dolce Vita, Marco in Dolce Vita (BRILLIANT Chef) and ALL the Staff at the pool.

Sumit actually went out of his way to assist us by re booking us back into the Oriental Mandarin after a bad experience at Angsana Resort in Bintan Island.

Not only did Sumit find a room for us on short notice but he extended an upgrade which was VERY appreciated. We left this Hotel feeling as if we have gained new friends and feeling quite special.

So is there a downside, well wine is hideously expensive, but that's Singapore NOT the Hotel, and Singapore We Loved.

Marion and I are happy and proud to recommend the Oriental Mandarin Singapore and ALL of their Staff and Services

5 of 5  Excellent hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Scarborough, May 27, 2009

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel for 4 nights. Our room was large with an amazing view of the harbour. The room had every facility imaginable including daily complimentary fruit. Superb bathroom and breakfasts to die for. Staff were so friendly and attentative and could not do enough for you. Hotel pool was super. Cleanliness was of an extremely high standard throughout the hotel. This was sheer luxury.

5 of 5  Great hotel, great location, great staff, great food!, A TripAdvisor Member, London, May 17, 2009

We were honeymooners, and we were upgraded to an ocean suite, and it was so nice. We had a balcony and the room was large, with a sitting area, and nice view. We went to eat at the chinese restaurant called Cherry garden, and it was awesome, we had a great meal, and the staff were always here for anything we wanted!

It is right next door to the Marina Square and The Suntec Mall, and it was great to just walk 5 mins and be in a enormous shopping mall!

Its a great hotel, although they seem to be very busy, still i felt like we were well taken care and one more thing the breakfast is awesome, great array of food!!

5 of 5  Great hotel...even if only for one night, A TripAdvisor Member, Singapore, Singapore, May 17, 2009

My husband and I stayed at the OM for one night in May. From the moment we arrived, we were treated as pampered guests. The room was impeccible, the bed was soft and sumptuous. The pool was sparkling and the lifeguard even recognized from a previous location! We ate at Morton's which was great (a little pricey on the wine). But the food was overall exceptional. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone who wants a romantic getaway with all the frills !

5 of 5  A wonderful stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Newbury, May 13, 2009

This hotel is brilliant, the service is second to none. We arrived off an early morning flight and because our room wasn't ready we were offered a complimentary breakfast and drinks.

The room was nicely furnished, and we had a harbour view, which was worth the extra. Every eventuality was catered for, I had a blister on my foot, and found sticking plasters in the room, besides everything else like toothbrushes etc.

The bed was a dream. I rarely sleep well in hotels but this was the exception. Also loved the large fluffy towels and everything was absolutely spotless. I'm a clean freak and notice these things.

Location wise, its a bit off the beaten track, but hey taxis were so cheap it really didn't matter. Don't push yourself to walk too far in the heat!

The food in the hotel is delicious. They have an evening buffet which was truly excellent, all kinds of seafood, chinese, indian, malaysian...makes my mouth water remembering...

Lastly, since our flight out was early evening, the room was made available to us until 2pm....a nice touch.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel. Its rare that I find nothing to gripe about, but this time I really couldn't fault them on anything.

5 of 5  Fabulous 12th wedding anniversary, A TripAdvisor Member, Sheffield, May 13, 2009

We stayed for two nights in April and had a fantastic time. Our travel agent was quite emphatic about the MO having a strict 2pm check in policy and that the only way to guarantee an early check in was to pay for the previous night. We didn't bother doing that and arrived at 7am after a 13 hour flight expecting to dump our bags, caffeinate ourselves, and go out for a few hours. We were delighted to be able to get straight in to our room. Our anniversary had been mentioned on the booking and the reception staff were really sweet- congratulated us on our long marriage and how we didn't look old enough! And they upgraded us to a harbour view room (809) which was fantastic. The room had a full length picture window with a view across to the Merlion, an enormous comfortable bed, and a fabulous bathroom with separate shower Don't miss the lemon grass and ginger body lotion and shower gel! There were thoughtful additions like fruit and a pot of Chinese tea, and on out anniversary they left us a complimentary bottle of red wine. The service was fantastic- it seemes that every time we'd been out, someone had been back in and tidied up my shoes! Everything in the room was of a very high quality and looked brand new.

An earlier reviewer was very uncomplimentary about the lobby and the atrium. I admit that on first inspection it seemed a bit odd and possibly slightly dated. But after a few hours out in the heat and humidity, the cool, shady tranquility was very welcome. The pool area is fantastic. Both days we were there we went for twilight swim and loved the views of the city. Again, fantastic service with towels and a little bottle of water brought to your lounger.

The breakfast was fine, although we slept so well in the comfy bed that we nearly overslept and missed it. On the second day we had an early start so had the room service breakfast. Again, superb. Especially the freshly squeezed carrot juice and the tropical fruit plate.

The cocktail bar on floor 5 was a real treat. Stylish but not pretentious, never-ending complimentary nuts and rice crackers, and a great mango marguerita. And tremendous city views.

The area is great. If you cross the road at the front and head towards the water, there is a really lovely promenade area, with the Gluttons Bay hawker centre (which we didn't try) , an outdoor auditorium with free concerts at weekends (great atmosphere, lots of families out for an evening stroll), and loads of restaurants . We loved the No Signboard seafood restaurant.

Other things we loved- the waterside bars in front of the Fullerton Hotel, really cool and trendy at the weekend. (It seemed that every round of two drinks cost us £20 wherever we were, but you're only young once!), the Hippo bus tour (one guide who's surname was Nicolai- exceptional), the Botanic Gardens (the restaurants there looked great).

Fab! Fab! Fab!.

If it wasn't 13 hours away, Singapore would be my favourite city break destination.

5 of 5  Top Class!, A TripAdvisor Member, Taipei, May 5, 2009

My partner and I stayed at the Mandarin Oriental from 30 April to 4 May 2009.We were upgraded to the 20th floor (there are 21 floors). We initially wanted a harbor view, but unfortunately there weren't any available. We got complimentary Axis bar drinks.

An excellent hotel.Superb service! The hotel staff were always friendly and helpful.A cool oasis in the heat and humidity of Singapore.

We had breakfast at Melt every morning. The maître d' welcomed us back every morning.Believe me there are literally hundreds of people eating breakfast every morning and she remembered our names and room number within a day.A very big compliment for us.The food was excellent.A very very wide variety of food. One hour isn't enough for sampling all the delectables!

Great location.Walking distance to all the main attractions and shopping malls.

The rooms are quite big.The 42' TV with good quality sound was a big plus! The bathroom was big enough and was beautifully finished in Italian marble.

What I loved the most was the bed. It's heavenly.I was looking forward to taking a well deserved rest after a long day of shopping and sightseeing. The bed did the trick. The pillows were just right.Perfect for insomniacs like me.

We wanted to try the spa,but we didn't have enough time.

All in all an excellent hotel. One of the best I've ever stayed in!

Thanks Mandarin Oriental for making our stay such a wonderful experience. We will certainly come back next time we visit Singapore!

5 of 5  A perfect stay at Mandarin Oriental Singapore!, A TripAdvisor Member, Helsinki, May 3, 2009

I stayed at MO six nights from the 21st April 2009 for an anniversary holiday with my husband.

Before the trip I did lots of research and considered also the Raffles, the Ritz-Carlton and the Shangri, but decided on the MO. And that was the best decision, we were most happy with the hotel!

We took a limo taxi from the airport (about 18 euros) and were checked-in in our upgraded City suite (with Club services). We had a bottle of red wine, green tea, fresh fruit and bottled water (both replenished every day) and beautiful fresh flowers in the room. The suite had a large living room, a suitably sized bedroom, a dressing area, a guest wash room, a marble bathroom with a separate shower (and lovely Elemis toiletries, a big plus!). We had two large tv's and two entrances as well. There's lovely art all over the hotel, also in the rooms. The windows are from floor to ceiling.

The club services included: a champagne breakfast, an afternoon tea, evening coctails with lots of things to eat (both warm and cold, a theme every night (loved the Indian especially), well chosen French cheeses, and Moet, of course). Soft drinks all day, pressing of two items per day, late check-out until 8 PM, newspaper delivered every morning etc .etc.. The service in the hotel is exceptional all over, but especially at the Club. You can naturally use a PC, fax etc.; read magazines and books in the Club.

We liked the pool area, there were always vacant sun loungers and umbrellas. The nice young men were most helpful, they bring you fresh bottled water, fruit and sherbet and even clean your sunnies, if you wish! The pool is open from early morning to late evening. There's a really nice view to the city, the Merlion etc. from the pool area. You can also see the Singapore "eye" on the other side near the Ritz-C. As the sea is next to the hotel there's sometimes a welcome light breeze from the sea. There's a kiddie pool, but unfortunately some parents bring their small kids who can't swim (and who make lots of noise) in the adult pool. Scary! Fortunately this was not daily and normally the pool area was an oasis of calm.

Altough you can stuff yourself with the delicasies at the Club, the restaurants are well worth visiting as well. My favourite was the Dolce Vita (I'd come back to Singapore for the truffle risotto only) , the Cherry Garden was excellent and the more casual MELT was nice as well. All restaurants had good food and excellent service. The Cherry Garden is very nicely decorated.

The housekeeping at the hotel is exceptional. The room and the public areas are spotless. Nothing was ever missing in the room like in some other top hotels we have stayed in, on the contrary the amenities were ambly replenished every day. I sent my "travel trousers" for laudry and they had also resewn a hanging button! The laundry and pressing were always returned in excellent condition and much earlier than expected.

The location of the hotel is brilliant, you can walk to lots of places once you get used to the heat and the humidity which took us polar bears a day or two . The colonial area, the Esplanade, the Merlion, the Raffles etc. are only a short walk away. Singapore is much more greener than expected, my husband saw a big parrot next to the hotel! Taxis are really cheap, don't hesitate to save your feet in the heat. The lowest fare was less than two euros from the hotel to the City Hall MRT (underground) station.

There's so much to see in Singapore, our only regret was that we only stayed six days. We'll certainly return to Singapore and the Mandarin Oriental!

5 of 5  My new favorite hotel brand!, A TripAdvisor Member, Alberta, Canada, April 30, 2009

WOW! What an amazing hotel! We arrived at the MO around 5:30 am and they allowed us an early check in at no charge. Our luggage was left behind in Vancouver and the staff took it upon themselves to work with the airline to sort it out on our behalf. While they did this, they also loaned us clothes so that we had something clean to go shopping in. The hotel is connected to a mall (these are so plentiful in Singapore that you're never far from one!) so we quickly picked up some necessities after a quick nap. The breakfast buffet at MELT (in the MO) was incredible! They had fresh fruit, homebaked breads and pastries, homemade jams and preserves, all the western buffet classics, Indian choices, and Chinese choices including Dim Sum. It was the best breakfast I've ever eaten, but it wasn't cheap. We had booked a Harbour View Room, and the upgrade cost was well worth it. The room (#1207) was exactly as they show on their website and we were able to take postcard perfect photos right from our room. The bed was very comfy, which was important after a long trip from Canada and all the staff made us feel like we TRULY mattered. Every detail was taken care of and the hotel was immaculately clean. It was a delightful experience and we will definitely stay with MO again.

5 of 5  Standing ovation, A TripAdvisor Member, Riga, Latvia, April 30, 2009

I've no idea what the correct smiley or web-speak or whatever it is for the emotion that I'm trying to put across but I believe it can be summed up with:

*standing ovation*

Without a doubt the best of the 5 hotels we stayed in during our little SE Asian trip (Four Season’s Jimbaran Bay, Banyan Tree Bangkok, Mandarin Oriental KL, Le residence Ankor Wat)

We stayed in a Suite, 2 entrances and 2 bathrooms, not too large at 75sq/m and good views, 2 plasmas, cinema system, guest bathroom, etc.

Hints for a good stay:

• Club lounge is a must simply for the additional level of service.

• Use the hotel limo service for transfers. We’re used to 1 or 2 people ready and waiting as we enter, but they had 10 people waiting for my wife and I.

• Try the Sushi and the Italian restaurants which were highly enjoyable.

• Harbour view may not be worth the extra it as the skyline is damaged by the cranes developing the casinos across the bay (take note of the when we were there though).

• The cocktail bar was well stocked and presented some exception live jazz and soul.

What didn’t we like: Actually could not criticize anything except maybe the Italian a la carte restaurant sitting right next to the pool where you run the risk of noisy kids disturbing your meal.

The after stay follow up was good with the club lounge also re-confirming flights even when we had checked out and were at another hotel.

Highly highly recommended!

5 of 5  wonderful service!, A TripAdvisor Member, England, April 25, 2009

Just what you would expect from the Mandarin Oriental! But it was even better than you could expect from a big chain hotel. When we checked in they asked us when our flight out was 3 days later. It was 10 PM so without us even thinking to ask they said that we could have the room until 6 and that after that they had somewhere we could have a shower and change just before we left. We have never come across this and were delighted and very surprised!

The breakfast was amazing! The first day someone takes you on a tour of the breakfast to show you the many areas from which you can select.

They do a special deal which you book on line through the hotel website and it is a bed and breakfast deal. Definitely worth it!!

A great stay in a very special hotel!

5 of 5  Amazing Hospitality, A TripAdvisor Member, Mumbai, April 22, 2009

Being my first time to Singapore I greatly the recommend the Mandarin Oriental. Newly refurbished the hotel offers spectacular views over the Singapore harbour including the famous lion fountain and the Singapore opera house.

The first thing that hits you when you enter the hotel is its vast ceiling, natural light and architecture along with the extremely friendly and well trained staff you seem to get over your jet lag immediately.

The rooms are an eclectic mix of colonial charm with a modern twist equipped with a plasma tv and warm interiors. The oriental spa although a bit expensive rates top notch for its ambience and treatment rooms. The pool uniquely shaped and located on the upper floors offers a great view of the singapore skyline. The fitness centre also offers yoga classes in the open foyer.

The breakfast in this hotel is not to be missed as it offers a vast array of options, along with exotic fruits and juices imported from other parts of south-east asia.

Overall the hotel staff get full marks for service with a smile.

5 of 5  Great Hotel!, A TripAdvisor Member, Mumbai, April 22, 2009

Debjani Gupta

Mumbai, India

All of us from the conmpany travelling to singapore for our quarter business meetings were staying at the Madarin Oriental.

The staff is very friendly, they greet you by your name (don't know how) when you arrive, the check-in is smooth and swift. One of my colleagues from China had broken one of the locks of her luggage and the handle was also coming loose. She requested the hotel to help her get it fixed. She was pleasantly surprised when she received a new bag as a gift from the hotel.

The breakfast spread is awesome and you can spend the whole day trying to taste a bit of everything laid out and still not finish it.

I love the view from the rooms facing the bay.

5 of 5  Wonderful, A TripAdvisor Member, usa, April 18, 2009

Outstanding experience. Hotel itself is beautiful, nicely laid out and in great location. Rooms have extensive amenities, from fresh apples and bottled water daily to loose bath salts to umbrella, and much more. It feels like every detail has been considered for comfort and convenience. The breakfast buffet is phenomenal. Service was excellent all around. Spa experience was exceptional. The business center charges 50 cents/min for computer, but a quick email check of less than 5 mins was free. Our pre-arranged late checkout was extended by 3 hours without problem.

Highly recommend the Morton's Bar happy hour, with half-price martinis and delicious complimentary steak sandwiches. The Axis lounge also offered complimentary appetizers and half price drinks at happy hour.

This hotel and breakfast buffet were highlights in and of themselves.

5 of 5  One of my favourite hotels in the world, A TripAdvisor Member, Mumbai, April 17, 2009

Amazing hotel and experience. On check-in they upgraded me to a harbour view room, which had the stunning views of the harbour, esplanade and central business district. I could even see the Singapore Merlin. The hotel is well located and connected to the Marina Mall and Suntec City.

The rooms are a good size with a comfy bed and with all the excellent amenites, including dvd player with home theatre style sound.

I'm usually not much of a breakfast eater, but the breakfast served at the MELT Restaurant was simply superb, that I made sure I got up half an earlier. The breakfast spread is by far the best I've ever experienced in any hotel around the world, for both the sheer variety and mind-boggling quality. Had Dinner had Morton's one night. Superb steaks and crab cakes, but a bit pricey.

I requested for a late check-out. And they agreed without hesitation. Overall, the staff was very couteous, and made my stay fabulous.

5 of 5  Loved the veiw, A TripAdvisor Member, Mumbai, April 16, 2009

Great place, great location and a variety of food options make this place one of the best places to stay in Singapore. The rooms are priced very attractively and you will find Indian food available here. If you decide to have food here, the spread is lavish and offers a a lot of choice. One should go for the buffet if you are really hungry - it also offers unlimited beer.

The place is very comfortable and most of the rooms are having an oriental fragrance. rooms are very nicely placed and offer all facilities one will require. Staff is very courteous.

Again one of those places which is VALUE FOR MAONEY. Also it is tied up with JETAIRWAYS so you earn miles.

5 of 5  Perfection, A TripAdvisor Member, High Wycombe, England, April 11, 2009

Loved it, loved it , loved it. We had previously booked to go to the Shangri La on Sentosa Island for Xmas but having read some reviews on tripadvisor we cancelled our booking and went to the Mandarin Oriental - and we are so glad!

Everything was great from start to finish, honestly we could not fault it.

We were there for Xmas day and they made the whole day really special - Christmas stockings on our door in the morning and mulled wine with breakfast.

We had the buffet dinner there for Xmas Day and the food was excellent. We had breakfast included in our rate and the choice was a little overwhelming!

would go back without a doubt.

5 of 5  Superb service, A TripAdvisor Member, Edinburgh, April 2, 2009

Given the large size of this hotel and the number of guests they have to cater for the enthusiasm, friendliness, and efficiency of the staff is truly remarkable. Over three nights from check-in to departure everything was handled so well that not once did we have to expend any thought on anything other than enjoying ourselves. OK, it is clearly part of as very slick corporate machine but the presentation (even when you can see that they are having a stressful time) is flawless and only the presence of other guests interrupts the illusion that you are their sole focus and a genuinely welcome guest.

At reception Jenny (I think) noticed that it was our birthdays so, completely unprompted, she sent a complimentary bottle of wine & a cake to our room (and was also generally very helpful and friendly throughout).

The quality and range of food available is also fantastic. They seem to cover all tastes including British, European, Indian and Japanese - which meant that the MO delivered real pork bacon, scambled eggs (cooked for you personally by a special chef) AND spicy bhajis for breakfast - perfect.

My only gripes are that the bath was tiny ( I'm just over 6' tall and could barely squeeze into the tub - couldn't even extend my legs fully - which makes it a contender for one of the smallest hotel baths I have ever been in - so small in fact that I had to fall back on the shower to get clean.) and, although the service, food, etc are excellent, as a huge, business focussed, hotel the MO does lack the intimacy and uniqueness that you might want for a more romantic holiday.

5 of 5  Impressive Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Whitehaven, United Kingdom, April 1, 2009

We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of our holiday. Check in was fast and we were upgraded to a suite as this was our wedding anniversary, the suite was lovely and there was a complimentary bottle of red wine waiting for us. Our suite overlooked the swimming pool and the Singapore eye.

We chose to pay approx £50 per person per day to upgrade, this entitled us to breakfast and entrance into the executive lounge in the evening. The breakfast was good with a wide choice of cuisine and champagne if you wanted it. In the evenings the executive loung was quite and very relaxed, there was a wide choice of drinks and nibbles readily available. The choice of drinks ranged from Moet to branded spirits to bottled beers. As drink is so very expensive in Singapore this proved to be a good option for us . The bars and restaurants in the hotel are very expensive, spirits are approx £10 per shot.

We visited Raffles for a Singapore sling, the pianist in there is out of this world. A visit to the Swiss hotel is a must for the night time view of the sky line. We went on the city tour on a double decker bus, this was a bit of a let down as half of the trip was spent travelling to a gem factory and some botanical gardens, neither of which is our thing, if we had known this when booking we would not have gone.

We spent the some time lying by the pool, cold bottled water is replenished regularly and sorbet and fruit is served throughout the day.

Singapore was not quite the 'wow' place we expected it to be but there is a certain charm about it, however, the Oriental Mandarin was an excellent choice as a base for us.

5 of 5  Classy!, A TripAdvisor Member, Tasmania, April 1, 2009

This was our special treat on our way home to Australia after 5 weeks in Ireland and the UK. We did the Singapore stopover - which I highly recommend - to break the long flight from London to Melbourne.

The Mandarin does what Singapore does anyway - but at the top level. The service is brilliant. Our room was quite stunning - very large, beautifully appointed and very comfortable. We were jetlagged and ordered room service. Dinner was lovely and the service incredible.

On our arrival I was stunned at the orchids as we walked in the door to our room. I thought they were fake they were so perfect, but soon discovered they weren't. Have since bought two phalaenopsis orchids and look forward to buying more!

We needed to source some good digital bargains in our short time before our flight back to Oz and the reception staff were very helpful and spot on in sending us to the right shopping centre. If you want a little bit of luxury to finish your trip, this is the place to go!

5 of 5  Excellent, A TripAdvisor Member, Dubai, March 29, 2009

Top class on all fronts. I would thoroughly recommend staying here! My only negative comment (if you really pushed me to have one) might be the pool area, just felt a little bit dated.... Excellent breakfast, superb concierge service and top class business centre not to mention superbly comfortable room and fabulous view. Great gym too. Bravo!

5 of 5  Sumptuous hotel with stunning views, A TripAdvisor Member, North London, March 28, 2009

We stayed here on a friend's recommendation and did not regret it.

Ask for a Harbour view room - stunning. Even the ensuite has a glass wall so you can see the view from the loo!

The room was compact but very comfortable with very attractive touches like fresh fruit and flowers.

The hotel has a range of bars and restaurants, not cheap but all with excellent service. The air con in the public rooms was a little chilly for our taste.

The hotel has a lot of staff per guests. Every time we left the hotel or came back there were lines of staff greeting us and ready to help, almost too much!

The location near the harbour is an easy walk through shopping malls or along the main road to the historic city centre, and the Boat Quay for eating out.

We enjoyed it so much we extended our stay.

5 of 5  Great hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Melbourne, March 17, 2009

We stayed here for 2 nights on the way back to Australia from Europe. Upon checking in we found out that it was Singapore independence day the following day and the hotel was fully booked. This meant that the room that we thought that we would get (ocean view) was not what we got as these rooms were allocated to people that wished to see the national day parade which passed the hotel. Our room therefore looked over the pool with a "glimse" of ocean.

Having said that there is little to fault in this excellent hotel. The best feature for me (I like food) is the incredible breakfast buffet. I have NEVER seen a better selection of food for any other hotel - it was fantastic (pricey but worth every cent - we had it included in our room rate so I was delighted).

Staff were extremely helpful and accomodating. I would recommend without hesitation.

5 of 5  fabulous hotel, great service!, A TripAdvisor Member, london, March 7, 2009

Have just come back from a trip to the far east which included a two night stay at the mandarin. The room was a decent size, the level of service was brilliant and the hotel itself is beautiful. The location is ideal being a 15-20 minute drive form the airport and ideally located within singapore. I would definately recommend this hotel, deserves its 5 star rating !

5 of 5  One of the World's best, A TripAdvisor Member, surrey,england, March 3, 2009

We stayed here for 4 nights in February. Confusingly there are three hotels with very similar names in the Marina area. We got very close to checking in at the Marina Mandarin which is where our taxi dropped us. I can vouch for how charming they are!

Having arrived at the correct hotel the first thing that strikes you is how understated but stylish the decor etc is but this is pretty typical of the chain. What else strikes you is the level of service, consumately professional and very charming.

We got a great rate for the hotel which others have mentioned. I think that this is because there are definite signs of refurbishment and updating needed particularly around the pool area and in our room. (slightly bad tiling repairs, slightly old decor) This doesnt detract from the superlative service. Everywhere you go you are met with smiles and offers of assistance. The pool staff are excellent (so is the pool). Restaurant service exceptional. Door, reception, concierge staff all brilliant.

If they do refurbish the Mandarin then the price might be out of sight for the likes of me - so go for it while you can!

5 of 5  Perfect hotel to explore Singapore, A TripAdvisor Member, london, UK, February 28, 2009

I have had my fair share of 5 star hotels, travelling on business a lot.

but this one stands out on all accounts:

excellent service, extremely friendly and competent staff, nice pool, great gym (new state-of-the-art machines), very good bar

very convenient location, across a nice mall where there are lot of nice places to eat, close to the singapore eye (highest in the world, not for the faint hearted!), 15min walking from Raffles for the Singapore Sling.

i will definitely come back to this hotel, may be next time when i stop over in singapore.

5 of 5  I Loveeedddd It!!!!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Surabaya, February 22, 2009

I did not know where to start. This hotel is just so delightful! It is close to Changi International Airport, about half an hour of cab ride. There are 3 shopping malls nearby, which are Sintec City,Marina Square Shopping Mall and Raffles Place, ALL are within walking distance.Besides, Bugis Junction Shopping Mall is also near but I took a cab.The beds are really comfy and nice. The room is quite big.I booked for 2 connecting bedrooms for my family so it's very convenient for me.The lobby was very pretty decorated.I went during Christmas time and there was a huge Christmas tree where I remembered taking photos. Overall, this is a perfect place to stay and I would love to stay here again during my next trip.

5 of 5  Delightful, A TripAdvisor Member, Palo Alto, CA, February 16, 2009

I stayed at the MO Singapore multiple times in 2006 & 2007 while traveling on business. The hotel is well placed for walking access around town and a quick ride from the airport. I recommend booking a car from the hotel, they pick you up just outside customs.

Booking the club level is a nice treat, but not as smart as ensuring you have a harbor view room. At the time, they were refurbished more recently than the city view rooms. Room service and staff treatment throughout the hotel was excellent. The spa is nice, but small and isn't separated from the flow of guests going to their rooms.

5 of 5  One of Worlds best Hotels, A TripAdvisor Member, February 12, 2009

I really enjoyed staying in this wonderful hotel. It has a perfect view to the Singapore Flyer and the ocean. surrounded by big shopping centers.

5 of 5  the best hotel I have ever stayed in, A TripAdvisor Member, manchester, uk, February 7, 2009

120 pounds per night via netflights. Speechless. The service, the location, the views, the rooms, the cocktails, the afternoon tea, the restaurants....Need I go on?

4 of 5  Man O - a solid choice, A TripAdvisor Member, NSW, June 20, 2009

My wife and I stayed here for only a couple of nights for our honeymoon on our way back from HK and Malaysia. We were tempted to go to Raffles only because it’s Raffles but the $1000/night price was enough for us to say no.

Man O was recommended by a friend who has stayed there before. We had a harbour view room so we could see the Merlion from our window. The harbour is starting to be dominated by cranes and shipping so is not attractive as say HK harbour but it was nice all the same.

Service was very efficient on arrival, check-in was smooth and professional. We were immediately shown to our room which was nice and features were all explained. Welcome drink took a little while but the quality made up for it.

The bedding was very comfortable; TV was still CRT but that wasn’t a huge problem. The decor at the entrance was a bit ho-hum, the quality of the wood was very good but it was very plain. Some like that, others don’t.

The hotel is very quiet and the service is very friendly.

We tried Morton’s Steak House. To be perfectly honest, we found it overpriced. The quality was good but I have had better steaks in Australia for cheaper. Quantities were humongous, probably too much actually!

For some reason though, the Man O seemed to embody Singapore a bit too much. Professional and clean, certainly, but perhaps also lacking a little character. But for no-frills, business-type travel, it’s definitely spot-on.

Location is quite good though the walk to the MRT is not exactly short – having to walk through a labyrinth of shopping centres to get there.

4 of 5  Great! A definite 4 (at the very least!), A TripAdvisor Member, Manila, May 9, 2009

Let's start with breakfast @ Melt. Definitely the best breakfast buffet of any hotel I've stayed in (and I've stayed in a lot of hotels over the years). Let me just say one more about the abundance and quality of the food on offer... if you're on a diet, you would, without question, gladly break it and not feel guilty afterward.

Nice lobby, featuring dark woods and black marble (Mandarin Oriental's signature style). The soaring atrium was something I very much enjoyed.

The rooms were (near) fabulous. Nicely decorated, featuring clean lines and dark(er) woods. Noting gaudy or opulent here. Also very well maintained and gleaming clean.

Separate shower and bath. The tub was A1 in my book (but probably to small for guests over 5'10). Toiletries were more than complete... the bathroom even had bath salts and toothbrush kits in stock! Great, great, great towels... exactly what a bath towel should be!! More than sufficient water pressure and water went from cold to warm to hot quickly. No temperamental water heater here.

I have to express my disappointment though that, while I got a harbor view room (fantastic views!), it still featured a CRT TV rather than the new 42' inch LCD (or Plasma) found in the other rooms. The in-room speakers made for great surround sound experience while watching TV though. The bed was soft (but not overly so) and comfortable. The pillows were just ok... a bit to large and heavy for my tastes. Have I mentioned the extras? Beyond the complimentary bottled water, fruits, mini-bar, slippers, daily newspaper, large in-room safe, etc.? Well, it was a pleasant surprise to find my room stocked with a stapler and paper clips. Note that the extras were higher quality stuff as well - laundry bags made of actual heavy cloth rather than the thin plastic-like material found in some higher end hotels, for example. A choice of daily newspapers (IHT, Strait's Times, Asian WSJ) rather than a single newspaper choice for all guests.

WiFi is available but not free... why I can get free WiFi in a Best Western but not in the Mandarin Oriental Singapore, I've yet to fully figure out.

The staff were top notch. Very nice and friendly all around. I lost power in my room the last night I was there (apparently a guest in the adjoining room had plugged a charger in the wrong outlet and blew a fuse) and the problem was fixed within five minutes. And the greeter at Melt really does remember your name!

Negatives (sort of):

Unlike the Pan Pacific or the Meritus Mandarin, the Mandarin Oriental's access to the Mall is a bit complicated. There is no direct access to the mall from the hotel itself. Rather, you have to leave the hotel, find the stairs, climb, walk through a corridor before you actually get to the mall. No big hassle but it would have been nice to have direct access via, say, the fourth floor of the hotel directly onto the mall.

I can't say I'm necessarily a fan of the location; if only because it's quite far from the nearest MRT station (City Hall). This should change, however, once the Circle Line opens. On the other hand, the Mandarin is within walking distance of the Singapore Flyer.

Overall, a very good hotel and one I would not hesitate going back to.

4 of 5  Rihgt there in Hub, A TripAdvisor Member, Delhi, April 29, 2009

Mandarin hotel is situated right there in hub of Singapore. Though travel time from airport is there but its applicable for all the hotels. The sea is just a few steps away. The hotel has got magnificent candeliers. The ballrooms are real grand ones. The pool side is located on a terrace which provide a panoramic view of the city. Though no diving!. The room are nicely laid out, especially the bathroom area. The in-room entertainment is good with bose speakers around.

The reception area tough looks small but is explorable to great details. The hotel has got adjoining shopping area. The connectivity to and from hotel is good.

4 of 5  3rd stay - still great but a few issues?, A TripAdvisor Member, dubai, April 26, 2009

We have just spent 6 nts at the MO, our 3rd stay at the hotel. I personally am a great fan of the Group and the Brand, and have worked them with them in the past, having been in the hotel industry. However, some disappointment that there was no real recognition of the fact we were returning leisure guests ( come on MO, if Ritz Carlton can do it!!). We were given a harbour view room, when my husband mentioned that we had been automatically upgraded to this on our last stay - but we had to ask. Remembering that a 6 nt stay is quite good for the hotel, particularly in this business environment. It was also my husband's 50th birthday and again no real recognition, evn though I mentioned this on my first reservation request e-mail. Subsequently, I asked what birthday amenites were available - and received a good response. But these things should be picked up by reservations in the initial communication with a Brand of this calibre and not prompted. We were not sure if th hotel is economising in this difficult environment, but the room AC could not be set below 18.5 and the ambient temperature was actually 20 degrees in the room - it was very warm at night and we found ourselves hot and sleeping without covers. We did request to have the AC checked - which it was. Unfortuantley, a maintenance card was left in our room, noting that the room termperature had been reduced to "VIP Level"! So, we assume that if you take a suite or the club floor, your room can be set to a cooler temperature! O.k, so internally these"standards" can be agreed, but the guest doesn't need to know!! By and large, the staff are still superb and one of the main reasons we come back to the hotel each year. But, we noticed some variation this time, depending on department. Room service were terse and abrupt when I asked if it would be possible to receive 2 glasses of wine in under 45 mins, as we were going out. We were not requesting a full meal! I understand the operational restraints of hotels - but this a 5 star establsishment. That said, most staff are excellent and a huge assett to the hotel. Our last small gripe, relates to breakfast ( not the food, which is amazing). But the hotel clears down exactly at 10.30 am, to set up for lunch ( being a business hotel). It is uncomfortable when your unfinished plates are cleared quickly and when you are aware that people are waiting to do this! Also, being told every morning, for 5 days, at 10.15 am that the breakfast will be finishing at 10.30 am, is just annoying. A discreet sign at the entrance woud be less officious and intrusive.

To sum up, even though the rooms and bathrooms are smaller than the RC next door, this is still a classy hotel, with great views, in a fantastic location. There is excellent attention to detail in most areas and it is a haven in the midst of the bustle of S'pore. Being opposite the Esplanade and a pleasant walk to Clarke and Robertson Quay are also big positives. On balance, we would still choose to stay here again, but it would be good to see the service standards being more consistent - as they have been in the past. However, the hotel is almost top of the Trip Advisor list for a reason - and most people will not be disappointed at all with their experience.

4 of 5  World class luxury, A TripAdvisor Member, Mumbai, April 24, 2009

Excellent location, in the heart of the city, some of the best restaurants in town are in this hotel. Comfortable, spacious room, good room service.

4 of 5  Loved the Mandarin, A TripAdvisor Member, Dorset, England, March 30, 2009

Stayed at the Hotel in a Harbour View Room for 3 nights in early March. The staff are very welcoming and the room wonderful with views of the harbour and wheel.

The breakfast buffet is wonderful with a wide selection of food although a note of warning for people with small children as we were charged £70 for an evening buffet for our 4 year old who does not eat £70 worth of food! Our mistake as we should have checked but just to warn others beforehand.

All the staff were extremely helpful and made the first part of our holiday memorable.

4 of 5  Great.....apart from Moretons restaurant., A TripAdvisor Member, Nicosia, Cyprus, March 17, 2009

Wonderful hotel, great staff, great location, upgraded to suite overlooking the harbour, on arrival, whisked straight up to the room for check-in, what a great arrival. Beautiful food and service from the Italian restaurant by the pool, and a very nice treatment in the spa. Very nice, well equipped, and spotless, gym. Great location in the city.

A couple of irks however. Was very pleased to read in the blurb that no-one wearing shorts or flip-flops were allowed in the club lounge and mobile phones should be switched to silent. In reality this was not the case. They are probably too polite to say anything but plenty of people ignored the rules which was a bit off.

Moretons restaurant. Meant to be steak to die for, but wasn't - my fillet mignon was chewy, and had to be replaced - and prices to give you a heart attack. $$16 for a jacket potato!! Not a well cooked one at that. $$128 almost the cheapest bottle of wine, a 2006 Margaret River shiraz, priced way over the top. Thought Dubai hotel food was expensive, not compared to this. Probably the most expensive and disappointing meal we have ever had, which was a shame as it was our last night in Singapore.

4 of 5  Slightly dated?, A TripAdvisor Member, Norfolk, UK, February 2, 2009

We first stayed at the Oriental in 1990. It was brand-new then and its atrium lobby was quite an eye-popper and that, combined with the trademark Mandarin Oriental levels of service and fine food, made it one of the greatest hotels we had ever stayed in. Today, the views from the rooms have become more spectacular with the development of the financial district and the marina, but the hotel is showing its age. That vast lobby now looks very, very dated, with acres of empty gloom, almost like a Soviet-era convention centre. Our premium harbour view room, 1402, was a bit dated and rather small by today’s standards, with a bulky TV set-minibar unit taking up a lot of space, though the newly installed bathroom was excellent and generally speaking this was a pleasant space to occupy. Downstairs, the restaurants are inward-looking, lacking any natural light, though our two meals were truly excellent - an evening buffet offered a wonderful tour of Asian cuisines and the buffet breakfast was world-class. The pool area lacks elegance or shade - something we crave - and the crazy-paving also betrays the hotel’s age. If I ran Mandarin Oriental I’d be looking to build anew here, take their brilliant staff with them, and sell off this brutalist building. On our return visit, in two months’ time, we’ve booked the next door Ritz-Carlton Millennia after inspecting their rooms and their pool area which seem to be a notch up. And we got the same room rate as the Oriental - around S$450 for B&B with a guaranteed 5pm check-out. So four stars out of five for what is, for most people, a great place to stay.

1 of 5  Not delivering what promised, A TripAdvisor Member, tokyo, February 26, 2009

Checked in and was given a bad room. I had reserved one room as a Marina view delux room that was a quiet room. They over booked and when arriving shoved me into a room with a view requiring me to stretch my neck to see on a terrible tiny corner room that was smaller than a standard room on a low floor. Requests to management were negatively recieved. I immediately checked out and went next door to the Ritz carlton that gave us a better rate, an early check in as was 550am and a beautiful high room. My hat off to the Ritz Carlton and as for the Mandarin oriential - they will never get my business again in Singapore!!
