5 of 5  Loved Every Minute!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Ohio, June 12, 2009

I have read all of the bad reviews on this website and can honestly say that I think some people just like to complain.

My family and I have traveled with Westgate for the past 3 years and have taken four vacations in Westgate Resorts. We have never had the problems that some of these people have had.

We went in May to Gatlinburg and were so impressed with the room. There were five of us and we were very comfortable in a one bedroom. Not the efficiency but a true one bedroom. (I think this is where a lot of people's complaints come from). Our kids slept like babies on the pull out sofa and my husband and I had no complaints with the bed or bedding.

The staff was incredibly friendly and we had no wait time checking in or being shown to our room. Our kids absolutely loved the waterpark which was free to us because we are owners. The shuttle picked us up whenever we wanted to go down there and brought us back to the room without any problems.

Food was great at the restaraunt. We had breakfast there. Also saved a ton of money by eating meals we could cook in our kitchen. (Yes, they need Teflon pans!)

Great location because both Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and the GSMNP are just minutes away.

We didn't have a problem with any noise (except the loud toilets). Not a big deal!

We got to bring our dog with us which was wonderful.

Tons of stuff to do in the area! Never were bored.

I think it depends on the kind of person you are. If you focus on the negative then you are going to be unhappy....in life as well!

I could spend a bunch of time saying they need more green spaces to walk the dogs and the pans didn't have teflon and the shower mirror fell off of the shower wall (fixed within 30 min) and there were golf carts, and the hill was steep where we parked...blah blah blah

But seriously, we had an awesome vacation and the room was what we expected with a very friendly staff. Great location, great service, great experience!!!

5 of 5  so much to do, A TripAdvisor Member, New Jersey, USA, June 6, 2009

Each villa has everything you could need. The resort had an indoor water park and 2 outdoor pools. They were expanding while we were there. It will soon have much more and a restaurant. The resort was situated nicely btween downtown Gatlingurg and Pigeon Forge. Smoky Mountain National park was very close also. This area is booming and we had no idea there would be so much to do.

The resort has a log cabin atmosphere yet all the ameities. The only downside was the amount of people taking tours to buy timeshares.

5 of 5  great place, helpful, A TripAdvisor Member, indiana, April 9, 2009

i use a walker and it can be very difficult to get around. althouygh we were on a mountain (great views) The staff was very helpful. If we needed to go somewhere there was a van to call. The cabin itself laked some handicap needs, but it was very clean and roomy. I loved it . They also deliver groceries to our room. That was a little expensive but well worth it. The resort has an awesome waterpark and fun activities that my 10 year old daughter enjoyed. The Spa was very nice. Everything about our stay was wonderful. We are going again in July.

5 of 5  Excellent service, hospitality, and quality of stay., A TripAdvisor Member, Urbana, Il, March 27, 2009

We stayed in a one bedroom two bath unit the last week of March this year. The unit we were given was less than four months old, and very, very nice and well appointed. We were a little hesitant about the trip after reading some of the prior tripadvisor reviews. I can only say I have no idea what the negative reviewers were talking about.... our trip was the best, the staff was very friendly and accomodating and went out of their way to make our stay the very best it could be. The water park was lots of fun, the views from our balcony were amazing, and the resort location perfect...right by Smoky Mt Natl Park. There were a few errors in our initial check in experience, and an error when our son checked in later in the week...they bent over backwards to make any corrections needed and to be sure we were taken care of. We normally seek out Marriott Resorts, and I can honestly say that our stay and unit rivalled any of the many Marriott Resorts we have visited.

5 of 5  Perfect for a relaxing, fun-filled trip!, A TripAdvisor Member, Powell, Ohio, March 26, 2009

My friend and I took our three daughters (aged 12, 10 and 9) for a three night trip over our Spring Break. We were guests of an owner of a West Gate in Orlando, Florida. After reading some of the reviews we were not expecting much and just figured we would "get what we get". Let me tell you. Everything was perfect. We were welcomed nicely. Esscorted up to our room (at the top of the mountain - the units we stayed in had only been open for two weeks), given a "tour" of our room and a packet of resort activities, phone numbers, coupons etc. Our room was absolutely beautiful. A view of the Rocky Mountains. Two fireplaces, 4 flat screen TV's, Two king beds, two spacious bathrooms. I can't say enough about it. They offer a "shuttle" from morning till night that will come and pick you up within minutes of the call and take you to the pool, the lodge or the waterpark. There is also a Trolly that comes to the Resort that will take you into Gatlinburg (only .50 cents per person) and Pidgon Forge is only a five minute drive. The pool was perfect - a good old fashioned swiming pool, no diving boards, no slides - just lots of fun. The waterpark was great. All three kids loved it. We paid for one day (about $15 a kid) and they could come and go as they please within that day.

I can't say enough nice things about the resort.

5 of 5  Decent resort, A TripAdvisor Member, Phoenix, AZ, December 23, 2008

I took my family to this resort and had a wonderful stay. I see reviews on here about "rude staff" and "lying staff"... Honestly, salespeople are generally desperate for a sale. Consider the source! If you don't want to buy, tell them you don't want to buy and then walk away. You paid for your vacation and you should enjoy it. Don't let someone else ruin it! I had a nice time in my unit or on the grounds with my family. Would I consider recommending it to a friend? It would depend on which friend, and what they plan to do there.

4 of 5  Great time in the smokies!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Boones Mill, VA, June 17, 2009

I have to admit I was nervous about going to this resort after reading some of these reviews!! Just like another person has written on here, SOME PEOPLE LOVE TO COMPLAIN!! And typically most people will write a review if they want to complain and if they had a great time, they do not. Just like the news, all the focus is on the negative and not the positive. We did stay in the efficiency unit, yes it is alittle small, but you do have a mid-size refrigerator, small stove (no oven) , dishwasher, and a microwave. Not to bad, because you do save ALOT of money by cooking your own meals. The bed was comfortable the couch was AWESOME. The A/C unit was alittle loud. The bathroom was nice. The swimming pool at bottom of hill was very crowded after the waterpark closed. Alot of traffic, but to be expected. Good security. The on-site store is conveinent. Overall Great time!!

4 of 5  We would stay at this resort again., A TripAdvisor Member, Lehigh Valley, PA, May 17, 2009

We are not Westgate owners, but booked this resort as a trade. Had I read the reviews prior to booking, I may have been scared off. Glad I didn't, because we really liked this resort. The resort was just far enough from Gatlinburg to be away from the noise and crowds but was a designated stop for the Gatlinburg Trolley; a real plus since parking in Gatlinburg was a hassle.

We found our units to be very comfortable and well stocked with everything in working order (could use towel racks in the bathrooms). We actually found the beds to be more comfortable at this resort than at the Opryland Hotel (the last leg of our trip).

The staff was friendly and helpful. Although there was a pitch to attend a resort presentation, it was very low key and the staff member wasn't the least put off when we declined.

We didn't use the water park (no kids along on this trip) but it appeared to be a really nice spot for families with children. The resort also offered some free activities/entertainment on the property which we took advantage of and enjoyed.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay at this property and would stay there again.

4 of 5  Overall good but Exchange beware of this Nickle and Dime resort., A TripAdvisor Member, Virginia, May 11, 2009

Overall we enjoyed the resort. It is very clean the staff are very helpful and on the spot if you need anything. The first night we checked in was a disaster, the kitchen was missing alot of the utensils and we had to contact the staff to get them replaced. We checked in with small children one is a baby. No one thought to let us know that there are playpens and high chairs available. We took a stab in the dark and was pleased to find that they were available. The person who shows you your room will tell you of a tour of the resort and give you a date. We found out during the tour that it was really a sales pitch to buy at their resort. Buying your tickets through the resort concierge may not be the best price, we went to the aquarim and found the tickets cheaper there. The city of Gatlinburg has two places that children can fish free and the kids were able to catch their first fish there. If you exchange into this resort, you don't get the same amenities that the owner who traded their time through Interval International does. We received maid service midway through the week, I've stayed at other resorts where we were told in advance of the service and once the service was performed the maid left a note to let you know they had been in your room, none of this was done. You will have to pay $40.00 per week internet service and if you want to use the onsite waterpark the adult ticket is $18.00. If your aware of all this when you exchange in and your in agreement then you should have a good time.

4 of 5  Beautiful, A TripAdvisor Member, Baltimore, April 22, 2009

We were heading to Pigeon Forge and decided to head down a day early but Pigeon Forge was booked solid due to a car show (that's an entirely different story) so we decided to stay in Gatlinburg for one night. It's only a 5 mile drive. We pulled into the Westgate after sitting in car show traffic for 4 miles and 4 hours to see an absolutely beautiful resort built on the side of a mountain. The hotel staff was fabulous - friendly, helpful, I can't say enough good things about them.

Our room was nice - queen size bed, mini fridge, microwave, 2 burners complete with pots and pans, utensils, glasses, plates and bowls. My only issue with the room was the bed was very uncomfortable. Our bed in the motel the next 2 nights in Pigeon Forge was much better. I expected more.

The gym was much nicer than you usually find in a resort and there was a heated pool outside - kept at 85 degrees. They also have a water park that was free if you owned a place at the resort otherwise it was $18 per person(adult). Everything closed at 10pm in the resort but you could take the trolley down into Gatlinburg as long as you were back before it stopped running.

Overall nice resort, great staff, need to upgrade the beds.

4 of 5  awesome once past check in, A TripAdvisor Member, indpls, March 22, 2009

We picked this resort because we wanted an indoor water park for kids age 5-17 and traveled with another family. Water park very clean however there was a physical fight with an older obviously intoxicated white man picking on a preteen black kid which security had to be called for and then the police which was a bit frightening to our kids. Staff handled it promptly thank goodness. Kids loved the park and prices much better than staying at a Great Wolf Lodge(GWL) and the indoor water park was comparable to a GWL.

Our room was clean modern spacious and well decorated as was the other families room we traveled with. Hilly area to climb to rooms plus we were also on the 3rd floor so lots of walking. Resort appeared to be full but our room was very quiet. Scenic views. Things that weren't working quickly fixed as were extra towels brought to our room.

The cons- check in was a nightmare. I had not realized this was a timeshare selling place as I had booked a stay n play pkg. Lots of people constantly milling about to hear and get the free weekend pkg. Check in confusing and long if you weren't there to hear the spiel and get the free weekend. We eventually found check in downstairs but it is not well marked bc they want you to sign up for the free pkgs. If you are looking for quiet and romantic this is not the place bc little golf carts whiz people around all day doing the pkg spiels.

Kids liked the playground and we ordered pizza in from the room service which was pretty good.

I can't comment on the stay for free to get the pkg bc I could never tolerate listening to all that droning on stuff . Price was good for what we got but I would never buy there as its too daggone busy all the time.

4 of 5  It was a very good experience., A TripAdvisor Member, Scottsdale, Arizona, March 3, 2009

Before we went, I read the reviews posted on this site, many of which were quite negative. Frankly, they scared me. However, our experience was quite different and positive. The rooms were comfortable, the location is excellent for a visitor to the area, the service people were good, and the sales people were quick to understand that we did not wish to purchase a timeshare and were not pushy. The area aims to appeal to families with children, and it has a heavy touristy atmosphere. The resort was fine for us, and we would stay there again.

4 of 5  I will be going back in the future, NICE place!, A TripAdvisor Member, Ky, February 17, 2009

My fiancé and I stayed at the Westgate Resort on Valentines day this pass weekend. The staff was really nice and the condo was extremely clean. To be honest I was a little nervous after reading all these reviews. The parking does need some work, they would not let us park in front to check in. You have to pay a $200 deposit to get the room which I was not aware of, but that’s only a bad thing if you have to pay cash, they just hold it on your card. I have to say once again the staff was very friendly and a pleasure to be around. I loved the condo itself, very clean and very nice. The hot water is an issue however, we ran out of hot water for the Jacuzzi pretty quick. All in all I had a wonderful time staying at this resort and I will be staying there again in the future. It is so convenient, located in the middle between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, I absolutely love the location! Not to far away but just close enough!

4 of 5  Good Choice - For Us, A TripAdvisor Member, Danville, Illinois, December 22, 2008

My wife and I booked an exchange through Interval International for December 13-20. The weather was unusually warm. This is a slow time of year for Westgate AND the Gatlinburg area, and it was reflected by small crowds at the resort, in town, and at the attractions we attended.

After reading lots of negative reviews we went in cautiously, but were nicely surprised at the service, location, and amenities. We checked in Saturday night at 8 PM and were the only ones at the desk, so we breezed through. We were taken to our condo - a roomy 1-bedroom on the ground floor of an 8-unit, 3-story building. I'll note there are a LOT of floorplans and buildings of different sizes throughout this large resort property, and judging by the reviews some of the problems may result from exactly which building/condo you get assigned to. We were VERY satisfied with ours. Everything was clean and the place was well supplied with dishes BUT, you need to bring your own Teflon frying pan. All of their pans are aluminum. We had a broken toaster that was quickly replaced with one phone call. The fireplaces are gas fireplaces, so don't bring fireplace logs. It would be nice if the resort propoganda would say that. Also, there are DVD players in each condo - something else not mentioned.

We had a friend come for a couple of days and there was no problem getting him a parking pass. The folks at the security gate do check and will chase down someone with no pass. As for the golf carts coming and going - we were on the "inside" of the building, away from the roads, so we never heard one until we went outside. There was no construction evident from our location, either, and nighttime was quiet. Except for a rare thumping of folks walking around in the condo above us, we never heard our neighbors.

The exercise room is nicely done - treadmills, free weights, ellipticals, weight machines - all looked new and seldom was there anyone using them. We did not use the indoor water park - it looked like it was designed for 10-year olds - the water wasn't deep enough for adults to really enjoy but kids would love it. We also did not use any of the resort restaurants, mainly because we cooked most meals in our condo and when we did dine out it was at a cheaper restaurant in town. That's not to say the food didn't look good at Westgate's restaurants - it did - we just didn't dine there.

Our condo was a 1-BR (king size bed), 1-Bath, full kitchen, nice big living room with pull out couch, gas fireplace, big TV with DVD player, balcony (with a great view of the indoor waterpark and the mountains beyond). We had to walk down two flights of stairs to get into our condo. We shared a full-size washer-dryer with one other condo and Tide was provided. Soap was also provided for the dishwasher in the kitchen.

We were asked to meet with a Westgate rep - "instead of filling out an inventory form, we'll meet and discuss your likes and dislikes and what may be missing from your condo". We said "NO THANKS!" There were sales reps everywhere leading folks around and the first thing we did when we got to the condo was unplug our phones so they wouldn't bother us. That was a good move!

To sum up - we very much enjoyed our stay at Westgate. The facilities and staff were all very good to us, and we would not hesitate to return.

3 of 5  Good location, liked the waterpark, lots of golf carts., A TripAdvisor Member, Virginia, May 26, 2009

We traded in another timeshare for this one before reading the reviews on this site, so we were not expecting much when we got there. We were pleasantly surprised that our 1 bedroom condo was big enough to fit pack in plays for our twin boys. We were in building 304 on the 2nd floor, and this unit was right across from the restaurant and gym, near the pool and the waterpark. We liked our room, but the studio that we saw was tiny. Not too much noise from neighbors but the golf carts & construction equipment made us feel like we were in the city. My kids enjoyed the waterpark, my wife and I enjoyed the on site restaurant and the pizza delivery option, and the place was right between Gatlinburg & Pidgeon Forge. By taking the Gatliburg bypass we could be in the GSMNP within minutes which is where we spent most of our time. We canceled the sales pitch since we have owned an Orlando time share since the 90's. My only issue with the staff is that they gave us the wrong address to the Emergency room when one of our boys was sick - thank God for our car's GPS! Great location, good amenities on site, cabins were hit or miss, staff was friendly, the kids liked the water park. Too many golf carts zipping by and the cabins being too close together is our main issue. It would be nice if they added some free weights in the gym and added dumbells up to 120 lbs, but I was able to get a decent workout there.

3 of 5  Nice, but loud., A TripAdvisor Member, TN, May 25, 2009

We just spent a few days at Westgate in Gatlinburg. We had a studio which was a bit small, but it did have a kitchen. The room was clean, but the walls are like paper. If I would have raised my voice only a little, I could have easily carried a conversation with someone next door. Studios, evidently, do not have a balcony. The outdoor pool is heated which is nice on a cool mountain night. I have seen in some other reviews that former guest speak of the staff trying to sell them a timeshare. I did not have anyone try to sell me anything. The staff were nice, and I was for the most part pleased. I would not suggest getting a studio though. Spend the extra money, if you can, and get a larger room.

3 of 5  waterpark rocks, environmental crime, A TripAdvisor Member, portland maine, May 17, 2009

got to stay at relatives' time share. the unit was pretty but loud. it had a balcony which was nice. there is a great little playground for the kids, and the waterpark it totally awesome. However, I was troubled by what a heinous development this is from an environmental standpoint, it is so poorly designed and they just carved off the top of one of the mountains to slap a big ugly apt complex on it. depressing.

3 of 5  Make your needs known and be ready to make compromises, A TripAdvisor Member, greensboro nc, April 16, 2009

Just spent 6 days at this resort. Came back one day early b/c it is a money pit and very much like Myrtle Beach w/o the sand and lovely ocean. Westgate is a notorious time share operation so just know that going in. Try to avoid anything to do with the timeshare aspect of it unless you are well informed (look up their reputation on-line) or you indeed like timeshares (we do not.) That being said, our one bedroom condo was very clean and pleasant. I did ask the desk for the quietest area possible and I requested 3rd floor. You have to trade convenience for quiet. Yes we had to lug and hike a decent ways to make it from the parking lot to the end top floor unit in the very last cabin building up 3 small flights of stairs. You could not do this if you are elderly or not well any way. As for us, we looked at it as excercise. My children are 10 and 13 so they can walk it fine.

Yes, the other reviewers are correct. It is a noisy place with somewhat thin walls. I think all door slamming you hear is actually no ones fault but the designer. Every room has doors and they are wood and slam shut. We were not disturbed being on the top floor and having only one neighbor in the front condo. We were in the back condo and really enjoyed the peace.

You have to share a washed and dryer with your neighbor and they are in the hall. These are incredibly badly designed and awkward. The doors dont stay open and are heavy and they are always slamming shut unless you keep one hand on it while loading and unloading your wash. I would have much prefered a private washer and dryer in my unit.

The mattresses are very cheap and uncomfortable as are the pillows. We always travel with our own pillows and forgot this time. The pillows are very cheap and uncomfortable.

The sleep sofa is also uncomfortable as they usually are. I was very dissappointed with all bed situation. We often stay in Marriott properties and dont have these bed issues.

This is a big complex but once we were in our condo we were quit comfortable. I stayed away from all staff so dont have much to say on that front. As for the indoor waterpark, we had a free pass. The girl at the desk rarely checked and you could probably walk right in. It was crowded and there were only 3 areas my children used on 3 occassions. They do have pool towel there but people just drop there junk on all the chairs and leave them there indefinetly so there was never a place to sit. Westgate should address this issue since you shouldnt take up all the available chairs with your junk and swim the entire time. I did not see lockers or benches or anyplace for you to put your stuff so people could sit that were not dressed to swim. I think the waterpark is overrated.

If you stay there know that you will make trade offs so decide whats important to you and work around it. For us it was quiet and I have to say it was quiet where they put us but many people would have been put off from the hike we had to make.

One more thing. This property charges for everything. There is no free internet anywhere on the property. Read everything .

* the best part of our trip was a visit to Parrot Mountain. Please go if you are in the area you wont forget it. Contact me if you want more informaiton on it.

3 of 5  Work in progress at Gatlinburg Westgate, A TripAdvisor Member, Alexandria, Virginia, April 15, 2009

We are Marriott owners and exchanged to stay a week at Westgate Gatlinburg. We were fortunate to get a 2 bedroom condo that was brand new and on top of the mountain. The Condo was extremely nice with plenty of room. This may be the largest 2 bedroom timeshare that we have ever stayed in. The views from our balcony of the smokies were fantastic as well.

Like many others that have commented previously the service at this resort is sub par and that is probably being to nice. When we arrived there was no line to check in so I wrongly assumed that this would be an easy process. The clerk behind the desk was incredibly slow and seemed bothered to be doing her job. We were then passed off to another person who escorted us to our unit. Being timeshare people we have come to expect some type of sales pitch when you are away from your home resort. So we had an idea that this escort was just a way to get face time with us. Our escort was fraudulently friendly and it felt like a scam. She provided us with false information and when she was confronted with her her errors she stumbled around and was at a loss for words. This was a bad experience to start off the week.

The waterpark on property is fairly nice. It is a smaller version of a Great Wolf Lodge water park. The cost is $20 a day unless you go to a sales presentation and then you are given free tickets for the week.

Mid week the television went out in our unit. We called the front desk and was lied to that the whole town of Gatliburg was out of service. We then called someone in maintenence and were told that it was a on-site problem. This was representative of most of our interactions with Westgate Staff. Questions were never answered directly and they gave you the feeling that customer service was not a priority. The only exception to this was the employees in the deli/store on the property. I was there on three separate ocassions and each employee went out of their way to assist me.

Overall we had fun and the condo was great. We did not experience the problems with the accomadations that others have wrote about. Most likely due to us staying in a new unit.

At times the lack of service overshadowed the niceness of the property and our experience.

3 of 5  Paper thin walls, waterpark hours shortened for season...., A TripAdvisor Member, smoky mtns, April 4, 2009

We just returned from an overnight visit to Westgate in Gatlinburg. We live about 45 minutes from Gatlinburg and chose to go to Westgate for an overnight trip to spend time in their indoor water park.

Our package included 2 days of play at the waterpark. We were disappointed to find, however, that the hours of operation were shorter than we remembered from our last trip there 2 years ago. Evidently, hours of operation change seasonally, and despite the fact that several folks were there on spring holiday, the hours were still shortened. The park opens at 11 am on Saturday morning, one hour after checkout time. This means that on your second play day, you have to return sans parking pass, hope you can find a parking space and that if you do, hope you won't get towed.

Another disappointment we experienced this trip was the loud voices/sounds coming from the rooms around and above ours. Last night we could hear EVERY NOISE--doors slamming, people talking, people stomping overhead--at times it seemed as if the ceiling would fall in. The walls must be paper thin; I've stayed in 2 star to 4 star hotels and have NEVER heard so much noise in all of my years! The buildings look nice on the outside and appear to be nice on the inside, but the basic building structure is poorly made.

The water park was fun and I'm assuming less crowded than the Wilderness park in Sevierville. If you decide to go, just call ahead to get the hours of operation for the waterpark so that you can plan your stay around it and not be disappointed.

3 of 5  Great place but expect alot of walking up hill, A TripAdvisor Member, Des Moines, April 2, 2009

Very nice place. Beautiful views along with being hidden from the busy town. Good place to relax. Good for families and friend get togethers. Place very spread out and required alot of walking up and down hill not enough golf carts to get people around. Only had two small outdoor pools for huge resort to share which was not good. Rooms nice and big. Great waterpark. Tolley rides worked well to get to town instead of driving to a town with no parking available. Good kids club. Would not recommend for young couple looking for fun and nightlife.

3 of 5  Bigger Cabins ONLY to New Comers, A TripAdvisor Member, Alabama, March 29, 2009

The parking was a joke. The room was so small you couldnot turn around one shower. We was have been just has good to stay in a motel!! We had bought into this mess to see if we wanted to become owners that was 2 yrs ago.I could get on the web and find a bigger room now for about 200.00 less per week. I told the ladyover the phone when she call to confirm our registion you may become owners and thereis so much more benefits!Ha We had no parking the bellman didnot help with the bags because it so far to walk! The room was so small! And still we listen to more lies trying to sell us this place from12:30 till 3:05.Smart a--. You get what you pay for. A little respect being they wanted us to buy and when they seen we wasnot it was bad! I donot recommend this to noone take the free nites if you have 3 hrs.to listen to lies DONOT BUY even if just to return. NOISY SMALL and NO PARKING. Building new cabins bigger and better to rope you in .

3 of 5  Not What I Expected, A TripAdvisor Member, Tennessee, January 6, 2009

At first our family thought this place was a dream come true. We had a two room suite and it was beautiful. But after being there a couple of days, we decided this place was just not for us. We had a few maintenance issues, but they did come immediately upon calling to repair.

One issue is the complex is HUGE and you can't really walk anywhere and you have to rely on the lodge trolley. They do come immediately when you call, but beware if they have to go to the employee parking lot! It was dark and the drive drove full speed up and down the mountain...we were all VERY car sick by the time we were finally dropped off.

Secondly, the waterpark needs to be opened longer hours. It doesn't open until 11 a.m. and it closes at 7 p.m. For us, if we wanted to do anything else, it was inconvenient hours. We bought three three day waterpark tickets and were only able to go one time. When we did go, the heat pump was not working and the water was so COLD that my daughter and her friend would not even do anything. $150.00 I could have spent elsewhere.

I had no problem checking in and everyone was extremely nice. However, If I had been five mintues later at check-out, it would have taken forever. The line was wrapped around the lobby. They have eight computers but only two people working the front desk! People were very very angry.

Overall, it was a nice place, but not for us. We won't go back.

3 of 5  I don't like being lied to, A TripAdvisor Member, Phoenix, AZ, October 28, 2008

Visited this resort for a week on an II exchange. 2BR/2BA with 4 people.

Like many others, I read lots of both positive and negative comments about this resort. I did not find some of the negatives I read about, specifically no problem with parking or with noise from other units--I did hear a lot of walking noise (squeaking)from the unit above us, but nothing from those units next to us.

The units are quite small in size. Kitchen is ridiciously small. Bedrooms are a little larger than the bed. Kitchen furnished badly. I've seen more small appliances, glassware, etc. in a Residence Inn or other similar LT stay room. Nice granite countertop and nice furniture in LR and bedrooms. Bathroom size okay.

Most every resort person we had contact with had excellent customer service skills, saying the right things and at times, being helpful.

OUR BIGGEST COMPLAINT was being lied to by the "Concierge" Jeannie. After we checked inn, we were directed to a desk just off the lobby. There, we were pushed to attend a "tour" of the property. My wife and I own 5 timeshares and have attended our share of those sales presentations. We declined, stating we had no interest in purchasing at this resort and did not want to spend time in a sales presentation. A lady who identified herself as the concierge walked up and told us that this tour was NOT a sales presentation, (she said they did sales presentations, but this was not one of them, but something new they were doing to help exchangers learn more about the facilities at the resort) but a tour to help us understand what the resort facilities were like and where they were. We said, okay, if it is not a sales presentation, we will attend to learn what facilities you have and scheduled a time for the next day.

We were picked up and immediately taken by a sales person to a table to begin the usual sales presentation that timeshare companies use --tell me about how you travel, how often, where do you go, etc. etc. We stopped the guy and said, this sounds very much like a sales presentation and we were assured it would not be. He said, of course it is a sales presentation, that is why we are here. So, the concierge, Jeannie lied directly to our face. Something I do not enjoy happending to me.

2 of 5  No Public Parking at Westgate Wild Bear Falls water park, A TripAdvisor Member, Tennessee, April 6, 2009

On March 26, 2009, we visited the Westgate Wild Bear Falls water park at Westgate Smoky mountain Resort.. The security officer showed us where to park and we went in and checked prices, height requirements, etc. The next day, we came back to enjoy the day with the kids. However, this time cecurity informed us that we could not park there, because we were not staying at Westgate resort. The water park is open to th public! He told us that we would have to park at the Gatlinburg Welcome Center and walk over. The welcome center is across the Great Smoky Mountain Parkway (two lanes going each way and two turn lanes each way for a total of eight (8) lanes.)! This is not a lightly traveled road. While inside the water park, you can see the parking lot and there were at least twenty (20) empty parking spaces available all day long. Why would you offer a water park to the public and then expect them to walk across a very dangerous highway with small kids?

2 of 5  Bad experience, A TripAdvisor Member, jackson, tn, March 24, 2009

Don't waste your time... When we arrived to rooms, the kitchen is tiny(only room for one at a time). Their was hair in our bed! We booked b/c of waterpark b/c you had to stay there to come to waterpark- now it's open to the public, and way too crowded! Not to mention, some days the water was cold( it's supposed to be heated ). We got a couples swedish massage at the resort spa. The prices are per person!! They didn't tell us when i made appt. After our massage, they charged us $216.00- the couples massage said $100.00!!! Even though we went through the whole timeshare spill when we booked vacation, still had to go through again- they PRESSURE you big time, won't hardly take no for an answer!! Everything costs extra. Beware....

2 of 5  Tiny rooms, very noisy, won't be back, A TripAdvisor Member, Atlanta, February 22, 2009

I have been going to Gatlinburg several times a year my entire life. This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. We stayed in the studio style room. It was TINY. You share a door / foyer with the neighbors. We were on the ground floor, so we could not open our blinds at all. It was also very noisy, it sounded like someone was moving furniture above our room except it happened day and night for two days. Only one of our two keys worked. Customer service was fair, the woman who checked us in was very nice (mentioned that the resort no longer allows employees to eat at the on-site restaurant, I thought that was extremely tacky). The studio felt like a guest bedroom to the larger suite that we shared a door with. We could hear the neighbors, the people in the parking lot, etc. Had to turn on the air conditioner to drown out the noise. If you are going for a weekend and plan on getting any spa services, make sure you call in advance. The weekend we visited was definitely not "peak" season for Gatlinburg, but we could not get an appointment at all to get massages. Also, they will charge you a $50 deposit when you check-in (I didn't read anything about this before I went), you get it back when you leave, but if you're using cash... Overall, extremely disappointed...stay in one of the older hotels downtown, much more charming and much larger.

2 of 5  Not Elderly Friendly, A TripAdvisor Member, ALA, February 15, 2009

My sister and I ask for rooms next to each other when we made reservation .She called and I called too to make sure that they had them and that they would be elderly friendly for our mom would be with us. The rooms was not together nor elderly friendly. Bellman Dianna did have them change one of our rooms because there was stairs. She was very helpful. The rest tof the staff fromcheck in to check out was rude. The girl at the check in took 45 minutes had a bad attitude. Try to eat in the resturant it was a nightmare.

2 of 5  Looks good but a lousy experience, A TripAdvisor Member, NC, January 20, 2009

We went with a friend's family...they had the larger unit and we had the smaller unit with a shared hallway. I loved the fact that we could have our own unit but be close to our friends. Upon arrival we were very impressed with the beautiful facilities. But once we were assigned our room, we knew there'd be problems. My husband and I have been staying at timeshares with his family for 15 years, and the first thing we look for is how well do they take care of the owner? Well, we were given a THIRD FLOOR room with NO ELEVATOR! Very cumbersome with luggage and groceries. Next thing we noticed is that there wasn't a welcome basket. Just dish detergent and trash bag. Had to use a coupon to trade in for laundry detergent and coffee! Next we went to put our things away. We were staying for a week and there wasn't a dresser in the bedroom! Just a desk with two drawers and two small end tables. Nowhere to put anything! Our unit was very tiny...just an efficiency kitchen and when the sleeper sofa is pulled out there is hardly room to walk. The tvs are nice but don't swivel.

The shuttle is a nice idea, but I had to wait 20 mins to get it after swimming! They went and picked up employees first. The indoor waterpark could be awesome if they would extend their hours and HEAT THE WATER! It was FREEZING! The slides and one hot tub were down for two days and the indoor heat was down also! VERY disappointed!

Great activities nearby and great restaurants in the area.

2 of 5  Small rooms noisy property, A TripAdvisor Member, Brandon, Florida, January 19, 2009

This property is great if you do not spend too much time in your room. We had a 1 bedroom unit which was very compact. There were kids everywhere and absolutely no way to enjoy the pool unless you get up really early int he morning before the families start to the pool.

2 of 5  Will not Go Again!!, A TripAdvisor Member, myoffering, January 8, 2009

My wife, brother-in-law, his wife and I stayed from Dec 12 to the 19th. Most of the staff was okay. Some of them are just rude! We were suppose to get 2 maid services during our stay. We did not receive either one. If you stay at the Westgate all you have to do is get your clean towel out of the rubbermaid containers that are left outside your door. Speaking of them the containers remain outside your door the entire stay. Nice touch!

A COUPLE ISSUES:

The hot tub had dropped on the north side about an inch causing sand to get in the tub. It also did not make me feel very safe.

The pool was suppose to be 80 degrees but I would say it may have been 65 degrees.

The closet on the deck housing the heater had a lot of mold on the ceiling.

The dryer would take about 3 cycles to finally dry the clothes

The water park cost I think $20 a day and unless you are under 7 you will not enjoy it.

The wireless internet COST $50 a week. That is right $50 a week. I have stayed in Days Inns who have free wireless internet but the "resort" charges you.

THEY WILL NICKLE AND DIME YOU TO DEATH IF YOU LET THEM!!!

Take the tour and take their money or tickets then stay in a hotel. If you are thinking about buying at any of these resorts take your down payment and invest it. Then that the monthly payment and pay it into the investment fund. I will bet in the end you will have much better vacations and you do not have to deal with them controlling your stay.

2 of 5  ok, but MAJOR problems, A TripAdvisor Member, Atlanta, Georgia, November 28, 2008

this place COULD really be a great vacation spot. My kids and I loved the water park. The staff was really friendly although they didnt know anything. Ask 3 people, get 3 different answers.

We got there as soon as it opened (1pm on Thanksgiving...made no sense) even though check out was at 10am! So we had our pick of the chairs. I recommend getting to the water park early if you want a place to sit. The water was not gross. It was clean. But as we were leaving someone threw up in it and they had to close it down. Lucky we were leaving.

Now...Check out at 10am? We had to leave the resort and find something to do. I asked for late check out and they refused.

The room was good. Not great. No shower cap or lotion. Just soap and shampoo. We stayed in the lodge and found parking even though we got there late the night before (11pm) which reminds me, all of the food spots at the resort close at 10. If you are coming in late, stop at McDonalds. We had to turn around and go back to find food.

Now here is the big problem. I booked the stay and play package and booked through their website. They overcharged me. I have been home for 2 days and made 4 phone calls and no one at the actual resort knows anything. They keep telling me to call another number. I think that because it is a timeshare, people dont often book directly through them and reservations are handled elsewhere. I dont know how I could have prevented this. I was quoted one rate and charged a higher rate. I prepaid before I even got there, so they only way I knew was by checking my statement.

I did not take a tour but maybe I should have and gotten a free night. Paying through them with my credit card has been a bit of a disaster. My kids really want to go back, but if I do, I think I will maybe buy a gift card and then let them charge that.

2 of 5  Will not go back, A TripAdvisor Member, New Orleans, November 27, 2008

My wife arranged this as an anniversary gift for our daughter, her husband and the grandkids, They had never been to the mountains in Gatlinburg, and she thought that it would be a nice holiday getaway for the family. Check in was slow even though it was at night with not many others guests checking in. There was a total of six in our party, so we reserved a 2br2btr villa. The floor plan was not what we saw on the web. My wife and I shared the one bedroom side which was small with mini appliances and a shower, no tub. The floor plans on the web showed whirlpools in both rooms.

My daughter, husband and two kids had the larger side with a king sized bed, whirpool bath and decent sized kitchen, two tv sets, gas fireplace and living area. It is true, you can hear others walking on the other floors at night, but it did not really disturb me. The resort is in the mountains and beautiful, a trip to Cherokee N.C. through the mountains is a must. There are enough negatives reviews about this place and most of them are true, but the major problem happened when we tried to check out.

The night before checking out, my wife checked the final bill, and she was quoted about $700.00 by the night clerk. Upon checkout, it had balooned to over $800.00 with several different taxes added on. The clerks on duty could not give an adequate explanation for the disparity. They would not budge or offer any relief. Needles to say it left a bad taste in our mouths and If I ever go to Gatlinburg again, it will not be at the Westgate Resorts. I believe that the best thing that I can do is to write them and tell them to go to this web site and read all the negative reviews. Hopefully when they see them they will make an attempt to become more cosumer friendly.

1 of 5  This place is HORRIBLE and we will never go back there!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Tupelo, MS, June 16, 2009

My family and I went to Gatlinburg to celebrate my parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary. We had reserved a condo with 3 bedrooms and a common area so we could all be together for the week. When we got there we were told that there was not a condo available. I showed them the reservation conformation and they stated that the resvervations were not made through them, but through an agency and they would not honor the reservation. In time, they did give each couple A room each with a queen size bed, a small couch, a tv and small refrig. There was no tub--just a shower and there was NO cleaning of the rooms the entire week--not even clean towels or clean sheets for 8 nights! There was a fee of $5 per 15 minutes to use the WI-FI and there was NO cellphone tower unless you had Verizon. There is a charge of 75 cents for each local call including calling the front desk or another room on the site. There were several golfcarts zipping around the grounds and they hardly looked up to see if anyone was coming, so you have to drive and walk at your own risk! The toilets overflowed in the entire building one day and another day the toilet didn't flush. The front staff was rude and obnoxious. You also have to pay to use the waterpark on the grounds. There is a pamphlet in the rooms that say that they "would make sure you have a comfortible stay and they would make right any problem during the stay." THIS IS A LIE!! The staff could care less about you. The staff in the restuarant were not interested in seating you quickly, even when no one else was in there. I would NEVER go to this place for any reason--even if it was free. The only positive thing was that the night time security officer named Scott was nice and helpful. He had been contacted when my brother had been given a key at the front desk to a room that was already occupied by someone else!!!!!!

1 of 5  The good, the bad and the ugly, A TripAdvisor Member, Sarasota, June 3, 2009

Wanting to get away after our daughter got out of school, we made reservations at Westgate for May 30th, checking out June 1st. I saw some questionable reviews on Trip Advisor and was a little bit nervous about staying there, but we kept our reservations. Here's our experience.. The room was very nice.. we upgraded from a studio to a one bedroom and was impressed. Granite countertops in the kitchen, Maytag appliances, fireplace in living room, two bathrooms, awesome view. Not one staff member approached us on a timeshare presentation. I've seen reviews where people complained about the pillows, but the hotel does not claim to have the luxurious bedding some hotels do, so they shouldn't have been surprised. The sheets were a little bit like hospital sheets (stiff), but once again, they promised no upscale bedding, so it was no big deal to us. I guess "the bad" part, if you can call it that, was some noise from other guests entering their room. The buildings are set up like condos, so you share a foyer with another guest, so you do hear them come and go, but it's no big deal. Other than that noise, I heard no more noise in the room than any other hotel we've stayed at. Now, for "the ugly" and I do mean ugly.. After our first night's stay, I noticed I had some bug bites on me. I didn't remember getting bit while walking around Gatlinburg at night, so I just brushed it off, but I was woken in the middle of the night, scratching. On the morning we checked out, I woke up, went into the bathroom, looked down and saw little black bugs on my ankle!! GROSS!! These bugs were biting me while I was sleeping. We were able to kill six of the bugs, put them on a paper towel and kept them to show the staff when we checked out. Totally disgusted, we hurried up and finished packing. I went in the bathroom to make sure we had everything and I noticed that I had two more bugs on my ankle. These bugs jump like fleas, though they don't look like the typical dog flea you're used to seeing on dogs. So obviously, the whole room is infested with these bugs. Does the hotel not spray their rooms for bugs? They charge a fee for pets, so what is that fee going towards? My husband went to check out, told them about the bugs and was told this was a housekeeping problem. He waited a good 15 minutes for someone in housekeeping to show up.. they apologized, but wondered why we waited until we checked out to report this.. Well, had we known the first day that it was bugs in the bed, we would have, but until we saw them on me, we had no idea. We assumed we'd get a call back regarding this, but my husband ended up calling the manager. She knew nothing about the incident and after my husband explained everything, she said she'd look into it and get back to him. This morning he calls me from work to say that the manager offered us free water park tickets for our inconvenience. Are you kidding me? My feet look absolutely awful. I have between 3 and 5 DOZEN bites on my body. I have bites on my abdomen, legs, arms and back, too. We should have been offered some kind of refund on our room, if not the full amount. It's a shame that a nice hotel like this has a problem with bugs, (I've seen another review about bugs) and you'd think they'd do a little more for the guests who do have to experience this, but they obviously don't care. We were actually thinking of going back there for Thanksgiving, but after this experience, we will never stay at Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort again. I'd post photos of my bites, but I don't wanna gross everyone out. I highly suggest that you call the hotel directly if you're thinking about going there, and ask them specifically if they've taken care of the bed bug problem. If they say they don't have a bed bug problem, make your reservations elsewhere.

1 of 5  What is a timeshare?, A TripAdvisor Member, Kentucky, May 10, 2009

Anyhow? Went to this place when they were first opening in Gatlinburg with interest in buying . I listened to the sales pitch and decided against it. I was then told that I could "buy a week" in order to try it out and then make my decision from there. I thought that would be a super idea and did so. Being at the end of our trip to the area I did not have the $800 or so dollars to pay for the week up front so I financed it (lucky for me!) I was told from the get go that I could use my week anytime except for major holidays and the like after paying it off. My total finace time was for 12 months.

I got back home and paid as I was suppose to for around 5 months and then called the resort and requested a payoff amount and wanted to schedule my week. Huh, I was ripped off! Every week that I mentioned I was told that I would not be able to use it and then they started to suggest weeks for me to stay...Hey wait!, this is my vacation and not yours so I will stay when I can. Anyhow, I became angered and did not get to stay at this place nor did Westgate get the rest of their money. I do not know what the deal is with this place or Westgate but it has made be very leary and stand offish of any timeshare people that I see when traveling.

1 of 5  salespitch nightmare!!, A TripAdvisor Member, piney flats, April 26, 2009

We didn't actually stay at this resort, but i feel that our experience with the presentation speaks volumes about it! We were actually approached by what one of the Westgate staff referred to as a "bodysnatcher". We decided to take them up on the offer to view the resort with a 90 minute presentation(what a joke). In exchange for our family of five to receive water park passes or $75. Also we would be served a breakfast buffett. We knew better, but went ahead to give it a try. Breakfast consisted of your usual doughnuts and cereal, what started out to be a very laid back sales rep. turned out to be one of the three "vultures" that would not take no for an answer!! They got angry when we finally said that we had to leave, 3 hours later. We did tell them that we were approached to come visit, not that we wanted to in the first place. Several lies were told to us, we caught on relatively quick. So i can't imagine buying into a place that treats people this way. We wasted 3 hours, but we did receive our money. We didn't mention the water park passes, we didn't want to come back. So for those of you considering a stay in exchange for their salespitch, you better think twice!!

1 of 5  NASTY AND NOISY, A TripAdvisor Member, South Carolina, April 5, 2009

I booked this resort because it had a indoor waterpark. Upon arrival they could not find my reservations, they had me booked under a misspelled name. We got into the room kind of late and the next morning when I got up I found dried toothpaste on the door casing and everything looked really dirty. I took all of the sheets and towels and washed them in the washer/dryer that is shared by two units. I put all of the pillows out on the balcony to air and hopefully get the germs out. I then proceeded to deep clean all of the unit. I found dried crud on the hairdryer cord and there were stains in the toilet. Below our cabin was the storage unit for all of the maintenace tools and the first morning it was very loud while the golf carts were pulling in and out and the maintenance people were very loud. No one was in the unit above us until the next morning and believe me the units are not soundproof. Also, the pool was advertised as heated and the first day that we were there the pool did not get fixed and on the sign posted at the pool it states that it is only 15 person capacity. So this is the perfect place if you want to have to clean the entire time, get up earlier in the mornings due to the noise, and swim in frigid waters. I would not come back to this place, to use the word "resort" in their name is a joke.

Nightmare at Westgate - Bedbugs

My sisters( 5 of us) decided to get together and go to Gatlinburg for a fun week. Wrong!!!

We spent 2 nights and on the second morning when we got up we discovered a bug crawling around on the pillow. Checking closely we found they were bedbugs. Yes!!!!!

BEDBUGS!!!!! Lots of them. We called the number given to us and told them that we had a problem. While we were waiting we managed to capture a couple of the bugs and put them in a baggie. A couple from security came and said they were sorry. " We will wash your clothes. " As we all know this will not take care of the problem and lots of things cannot be washed. They called management and a couple of guys from management came and varified that the bugs were bedbugs. Westgate even raised the covers on the beds and made pictures. They were that bad. We left that day without a coat on our back. All clothes were left and for three months management promised to take care of the problem. Then all at once too bad. We are not going to do anything. If you are looking for a place to stay I would not recommend Westgate. Check it out lots of complaints. A couple of of us had to be treated for the bites. We lost all our clothes, belongings, had to pay our own doctor bills. Time share with Westgate is a joke.

1 of 5  Worst Customer Service I Have Ever Experienced, A TripAdvisor Member, Dallas, February 18, 2009

My husband have been to the Smoky Mountains a few times so we were looking for something fairly close to the park and picked Westgate. But I guess we should have read more of the reviews on this hotel before we picked it because is awful. Upon our arrival the security team that allows you into the area couldn't even tell us were to check in...incredible. After we found a place to park (poor parking) and made it to the front desk the person took 15 mins to check in. They had to find a room...please. Then they turn you over to a sales person to get you to buy a condo...what? We had flown in to Knoxville and drove to Gatlinburg and that was the last thing we wanted to do was listen to speech about the resort. After politely refusing the tour we were ask to follow someone in a golf cart to our room. Once we got there they had put us in a condo with two double beds. Since we booked with Orbitz we were guaranteed a king bed - 1BR Suite. Of course the nice gentleman who took us to the room said this was all they had but would get on his walky talky and check for us. Supposely the computers were down and we would have to wait. So we (and the resort bellman) sat on the sofa and waited for a call to see what they could do. Approximately 45 mins. later we decided we would just go back up and check with the resort desk to get on a list for another room. What do you know the computer miraculously was working..hmmm? We spoke to a person at the front desk that didn't have a ounce of customer service. She yelled over her shoulder to another woman...she had a problem with a reservation. We later found out this was the person in charge of room management. She never said hello, sorry about your room...or kiss my ____. She looked at her desk clerk the whole time and told her to get a copy of our reservation (while we were standing in front of her) and to give us a room that was available. It must have been a special one because she said if she got chewed out for giving it to us she wanted a copy of the reservation we had from Orbitz to back her up. We felt like aliens. The whole resort was like this. Your were not a customer ...they made you feel like you were bother and not really interested in your stay. I am a meeting planner so I am always looking for new sites for meetings. I look for leisure places , not expensive, and don't expect to be waited on hand and foot but customer service at the front desk is not to much to ask for. Lying about not having another room and not even acknowledging our presence is ridiculous. I wouldn't even invite my worst enemy to stay here!!! This resort is not that special and their are tons more in the area you will like much better.

1 of 5  a horrible experience!, A TripAdvisor Member, Rock Hill, SC, February 17, 2009

We booked our romantic Valentines getaway on Feb 2, 2009 with the Westgate. We looked it up through hotels.com & then called them in order to tell them exactly what we wanted. We told them of bad experiences that we have had before in the Gatlinburg, Tn area. In the past we have had hotel staff at other hotels tell us that their in-room jacuzzi tubs were big enough for two, only to find out they were garden tubs or regular bathtubs with whirlpool jets big enough for one person. We were looking at the online virtual tour as we spoke with the agent & told them we wanted that type of room that was in the VT. They assured us it was a condo with a king bed & a very large jacuzzi. On Valentines Day we rented a car & drove 5 hrs to get to the resort. The first problem came as we stood in line. They were supposed to put the dozen roses my husband ordered for me in our condo to surprise me. Instead the greeter started calling out my name in the lobby when the flowers came. Then the guide that takes you to your condo & opens it for you couldn't get the key card to work. We stood outside for 15 mins before they brought more keys. When she opend the door, there were 2 small beds & a garden tub in the condo. We asssured her it was the wrong condo. She called on her radio & I spoke with a person, telling him we didn't pay all that money for that condo or drive 5 hrs for it & asked what he was going to do to make it right. He said he would try to work it out. We waited yet again for them to bring keys to another condo. When they finally came, those keys didn't work. So she (the guide) thought maybe they told her the wrong condo & she took us to the one at the end of the building. The key opened the outer door but not the inner one. She knocked on the door & finally someone came out & she said we had the wrong condo. She called again & we waited for a very long time until they brought more keys to a condo next door. We drove over there & found out they were for someone else's condo whose keys didn't work. We asked our guide if that happened all the time & she said yes. Finally we received more keys that also didn't work. She called security & after a long wait a woman came with a unit that programs the key cards. Her pass key wouldn't even work so she called another security person. He tried & he couldn't get the door open. She used one of his tools & actually took the security unit off the door. We walked into the condo & it had a king bed but only a 1 person garden tub. Once again we called down to the front desk. We were told they would check with the manager & call back. When he finally called back he told us that this room was the next to the best that they had. My husband told him that we were promised a room with a large jacuzzi like the one in the virtual tour. He told my husband that they only had a handful of those units & they weren't available! He didn't offer to make it right in any way. He didn't apologize for making us stand out in the cold for over 2 1/2 hrs while they sent us on a wild goose chase to 4 different condos, all of which had non-working keys. We spent money on a rental car & drove 10 hours there & back. My husband demanded a refund & was told that we didn't pay at the desk & would have to get our money back the way we paid for it. There were no vacancies left anywhere so we drove back home to SC. I had to file a complaint with hotels.com who has assured me we will get a refund. The cost & pain of this disaster goes well beyond the money we spent. We will never rent a condo or stay in Gatlinburg again & feel that the Westgate was a rip-off!

1 of 5  Ruined Our Vacation, A TripAdvisor Member, sherry121172, February 16, 2009

Where do I start, first of all no hot water all weekend, small room, heard every move the neighbors made. When my husband went to let them know of our concerns he was lied to about the availability of the manager and made to feel like he was just wanting something for nothing. We were given a business card and a phone number to call and was told there was nothing they could do for us at the "service desk". Not very friendly check in/check out. How did they manage to get so many rude people to work for the same establishment? Mislead by the photos on the website. We were under the impression the property was overlooking Gatlinburg, NOT!!!!

1 of 5  Never been treated so poorly in my life, Worst Travel Experience Of all time.., A TripAdvisor Member, VA, February 15, 2009

**Short Version**

The staff is rude and sometimes downright MEAN

The Parking Situation is terrible

The waterpark is expensive and overratted

Broken coffee cups in the cabinets

Mattress felt like it was made of stainless steel

Hot tub was nothing more than a dirty bathtub with 4 jets in it

Internet access is ten dollars a day extra

Nothing is included even cheap crappy coffee is a dollar a pack these people wouldn't even give me a extra pack of sugar I had to buy it myself

**Long Version**

My wife and i Traveled here to look at buying a time share. I am sure glad we came here first because looks can sure be deceiving. From the road the place looks great. Check in was a total nightmare. We arrived at 8:30..none of our stuff was ready, the lady at the front desk was so strung out she literally passed out standing up and our check in had to be completed by a supervisor. After waiting a little over an hour to get everything straightened out and get our keys we get up to the end of the parking lot which was about 50 yards from our room. After the hike to our room of course or keys did not work. so after waiting 15 minutes on security to come unlock the door and fix our keys we find out this is not even our room, so the we go another 20 yards up the side of a mountain to our actual room. So finally at about 11 we get to our room, after going through our paperwork we notice that our credit card was billed twice for our room deposit. We called the front desk only to be treated like we were lying about it. So its 11:30 now and we get to walk the football field back to our car to go prove to the rude people at the front desk that our card was charged twice. They then credited it back (supposedly i still have not received the money back in my account) So the next day we get out of there as quickly as possible only to arrive back around 10:00pm and find the hotel has all of their shuttle vans parked in our spaces, they say they can't move them because they don't have the keys and the next closest parking place was a little over a half a mile from our room. We had to beg at the front desk to finally get someone to give us a ride on their little golf cart up there and when he finally showed up he acted like we owed him something for bringing us up to our room. Not to mention is smart-alec comments under his breath the whole trip. Needless to say if i ever get my room deposit back I hope to never hear the name WestGate again and would not wish a stay here on my worst enemies. Please don't make the same mistake we did...

1 of 5  Terrible Accommodations And Service - By An Owner!!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Northwest Ohio, January 16, 2009

As a Westgate owner (in Mesa AZ), we booked this room through Westgate 10 months ahead; after I had visited the property to see their model a year earlier.

Totally unlike the model, the living room was very small; when the sectional was made into a bed, you could not walk around in the room. We had an upstairs one-bedroom, slanted walls on both side of the living room, gave us about 5 foot to walk in when the couch was not a bed.

Kitchen was even smaller, Comfort Inn has larger kitchens. The table was about 2 ft by 4 ft. If the leaf was raised, you couldn't walk between the table and couch. Only had 3 kitchen chairs, we had to take a plastic chair off the balcony so all four of us could sit to eat.

Extra charge to use the pool; outside pools would have been free but it was 10 degrees. Each person cost $12/ day to use the water park; they told us IF you were an owner HERE you could go free; but we were second-class owners.

If you wanted internet, again, there was a fee, I think it was $20+ for 4 days.

I WILL NEVER VISIT THIS PROPERTY AGAIN; I have gone to at least four other Westgate properties and not had this terrible service and facility!!!! Go to Painted Mountain in Mesa, or Branson's Emerald Point or Woods, or even Tunica MS.

No one was helpful even after calling Westgate's main office!

This resort is on its way down. I stayed in 2007 and had no problems and a very nice stay. When I returned this year it was a different story. The first room we were shown was not clean with sheets and dirty towels in the floor. The balcony door was also left open leaving the assumption that someone had snuck in and used the room between guests. The second room had no heat, which was a big deal at 11:00 pm when it was 21 degrees out. The maintenance men claimed to have fixed the heat and left around midnight. Around 3:00 am I woke to an overheated apartment with a temperature of 81 degrees. The thermostat was broke and the heat would not shut off even after turning the switch to the off position. These are problems that could have been avoided with some proper maintenance prior to my stay. The next day we were without cable and internet due to a power outage in the lower cabins. The problems did not end with our stay as we left a couple of items in our room. In normal circumstances these items would have been turned into lost and found for the guest to pick up or request shipment. Not so at the Westgate resort, their employees kept the items for themselves and apologized for the inconvenience. Poor management would be the sum of my stay.

1 of 5  Definitly not worth my Maintenance Fees, A TripAdvisor Member, Louisiana, November 25, 2008

Went through II to book this destination. Since we own in New Orleans with RED WEEK 24/7,,,365, we booked in TN during the Thanksgiving holiday. In New Orleans, we own the studio which has a bedroom off the main area of the kitchen and dining area.

I realize that all resorts are not created EQUAL, however, the location where my famiy were placed could be called no less than a "CAVE". You walked into the 12x20 room which held the queen sized bed, small closet, desk, fold out couch, and very small kitchen area. You then add the bathroom..which is the only nice thing in the room. The shower was spacious..Hooray!!!!

This was the worst location that I have ever stayed in the "18" years that I have owned this timeshare." Boo!"....to you Westgagte for even having such a location. to place guests.

I have toured with you in the past and you talk a great speech and for such a beautiful location you have given the (Non owners at Westgate) a raw deal. I hope you are somewhat better to your owners.

I strongly "Do Not" recommend this location to anyone!!!!"

1 of 5  The worst 7 day vacation EVER!, A TripAdvisor Member, Ca, November 22, 2008

IT would take more then this computers capacity to write how i feel about this over rated, scam in the smokies! The room was small and you could hear everything going on around you! The walking up and down the stairs! The resort uses propane powered golf carts! and i promise thats all you will hear going up and down the streets all day long! Vroomnmmmm!!!!! VRROOMMMM! It was not relaxing. The staff on site was terrible, I was either lied to, or ignored. They actually used a scare tactic to try and get me to come to a sales meeting! The indoor water park was ok but it will cost ya! Overall worst experience so far of any vacation! DONT BUY THERE, DONT STAY THERE.!

1 of 5  Cabin Fever Alright!!!!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Maysville, KY, November 10, 2008

We bought a package from a time share visit and boy do they show you the world on that visit and not deliver when you actually come to stay.

Besides the fact that we were at the tip top of the hill with NO parking we had to wait until semis unloaded and delayed us from traveling out of this property!!

If that wasn't bad enough the neighbors had a BARKING dog who did not stop barking from 10:00 am until 1:30 pm we made complaints to the front desk as well as the people who wanted us to buy into this time share property and there response was there is NOTHING we can do about the noise nuisance.

We could have stayed in a pet free hotel and got more rest!!!

The room was a one bedroom with the kitchen table falling apart and noise was terrible. Besides the dog you could hear the washer and dryer on both ends of the one bedroom.

The free water park tickets we were suppose to get at check-in

came on the last day we was there and the people in charge were only interested in selling us a timeshare not taking care of the people who were staying here!!

The amazing thing is that we actually own Fairfield timeshare property and have NEVER had such an experience in the 7 years of ownership.

We went for a relaxing few days with our daughter's and what a disappointment!!!!!

1 of 5  Scammy deceptive promotion of tiny hotel rooms as "Condos", A TripAdvisor Member, Pensacola, Florida, November 7, 2008

Promoted deceptively as #1 31/2 star "Condo" property on HOTWIRE as best value IN Gatlinburg on Hotwire. In truth a scammy time share property with very small hotel room no kitchen not a Condo in any sense of the word poor quality construction WAY outside of Gatlinburg NOTwithin walking distance..Staff was rude required a $50 cc deposit on check "just in case".Pretended like small hotel rooms were "Condos" with fully operational kitchens.

Avoid this dodgy scammy remote time share like the plague.
