Clean Room but Other Guests Made Us Nervous-Stay someplace else! | Read all reviews
We were looking for an inexpensive place to stay for a couple of nights, well, we should have remembered that you get what you pay for! From the outside, the hotel looks new and well-kept. The staff was nice. But, the walk to our room really made us wonder what we got ourselves in to! The room was clean but just going out to the car made us feel like we needed to be armed. It turns out that this place is actually a long term home to many people that can't afford to go anywhere else. We saw many people carrying beer back to their rooms from the convenient store across the street and saw one couple that really made us wonder. She was wearing very little and appeared to be no more than 16 and he was much older...and acting strange. It was all very depressing and I wish that we had checked it out better. Stay anywhere else, but not here!

I am still residing at the Suburban and still extremely happy here. The staff is exceptional and I have not had the first problem since I moved in on October. In reference to the above Sheriff's visit, I am sure every hotel has had a guest who has had a little too much liquid encouragement (alcohol) and got a little loud. It was an isolated incident and the first to occur since October. Nothing to be concerned about. Suburban Security was on the scene immediately and the Sheriff response time was also immediate. As a single female security supervisor I can tell you that you will have no worries enjoying The Suburban. Your comfort Always comes first here. Stayed in room 121 toward the back, end unit. Good value for $67/night. Quiet, 2 double beds were comfy, had sink, fridge, microwave, 2-burner stove and some pans and plates, 1 closet, adequate bathroom. Room was clean and basic, bring your own kleenex. Was fine for one night, might get a little claustrophobic with 2 or more people for several nights, depending on how cozy you like to be. Would stay there again. stayed here for a week in january. was only $37.71 a night when booked on their website, choicehotels.com. room was small but clean and effecient, with a nice kitchenette including fridge, microwave and stovetop. expanded cable- 80 some channels. request a room farthwer back from the noisy road. i tend to be a light sleeper so i ran the fan at night for white noise. was a good location for my purposes, near tampa airport with good access to tampa, st. pete and clearwater. I attended a trade show in Tampa and needed a place to stay for a week, so I booked this hotel from it's parent company website (Choice Hotels). I was a little apprehensive after reading the review about the other guests. I didn't need to worry. I never saw anything or anybody that was the least bit threatening during my stay. I felt completely safe and comfortable the whole week. Most of the other guests I saw looked like families on vacation, some construction workers, and other professionals. It turned out to be an above average property at a very reasonable price. Not mentioned on the hotel's website is the fact that all local AND LONG DISTANCE calls are free. I took advantage of the free long distance to check in with my family each day, saving my cell phone minutes. The free wireless internet service was adequate but slowed down at night as the hotel filled up. Signal strength was very good but throughput declined at times. My room had a complete kitchen which I used to prepare snacks and even some small pre-packaged meals. It was handy and I saved money by eating some meals in my room, although I took advantage of nearby restaurants as well (a Golden Corral is next door). The staff was exceptional. Every contact I had, from front desk personnel to housekeeping, was professional, cheerful (how many times do you hear that?), and helpful. The property itself was built in an old grove of live oak trees and fortunately, they left as many of the trees as possible, which provided shade and that "old Florida" feel. I would have enjoyed a pool but as it turned out, the weather didn't cooperate much, so I'm not sure I could have used it had one been available. Was it luxurious? No. Was it clean, comfortable, and a good value? Absolutely. The next time I'm in Tampa, this hotel will be my first choice.
