Great location, If you book this hotel try a get a sea view, we booked 8 months in advance but could only get a Island view. Rooms clean, Breakfast good, outside with the view of the coming and goings of the sail boats. Staff very good. Book your boat trip from Rhodes at least 24 hours in advance. On the Cat it is 15 euros each way time 50 minutes. We had an evening meal at the Hotel good value and service and a table at the waters edge. We have been visiting the island of Symi for many years. We always stay at the Nireus hotel with it's outstanding location overlooking the harbour. views from the rooms located at the front are magical. We will be back again this year Relaxing, quiet, good food, excellent wine (greek which before I'd struggled with). Then it happened..... Greece won the European cup WOW. Dinamite in the harbour. Free beer every where. Hey, wether then won or not this is the friendlist island in the world. They say if you go once you will return - I agree. Plymouth argile fans most welcome (fore said barman in the football shirt) why Im not sure! If you love Greece then Symi is a must as it is breathtaking in beauty. The town caters for day trippers from Rhodes, but once the crowds have dissapeared you can enjoy the quaint little streets and alleyways and the lovely harbour. The Hotel Nireus is ideally placed at the end of the harbour with views out to sea and within walking distance of restaurants, bars and the local beach. The hotel is typically Greek and the rooms are simply furnished but well maintained. The staff are friendly and they make you feel very comfortable and at home.It has its own sunbathing platform(which can be used by non residents as anyone has a right to access the sea from the waterfront)with comfortable sun loungers and tables to sit and enjoy a cool drink! We combined a week in symi with a week in halki and it was a fantastic holiday if you are looking for the real Greece and a laid back holiday. The Nireus was very enjoyable and a charming hotel to stay in,well worth trying. We stayed at the Hotel Nireus for 4 nights and enjoyed its benefits as a base for our holiday. Short walking distance to everywhere and great swimming in the harbour immediately outside the hotel. The views from the seaview rooms are great and the air conditioning was effective. These are not luxurious rooms, but have all the basics required, and the large fridge is also a bonus. I would thoroughly recommend Hotel Nireus as a convenient base in Symi. This hotel has a great view of all manner of boats coming and going from the harbour. A view to take the stress of life instantly away. The reception staff went out of their way to be helpful. The accomodation was clean and the cleaning ladies great, they even cleaned the tea stains from our own cups. One down side was that the shower rose did not attach to the broken wall mount, this created a very wet slippy floor after each shower. Although mention to the staff nothing was done. The sea is so clean and fish life abundant that you can swim and snorkel from the steps outside the hotel. It is good to use the water taxis to get away from the town when the day tripper boats arrive. Symi is not cheap we paid English prices for meals, but to stay on the island was worth it. We have just returned from two glorious weeks in Symi staying at the Hotel Nireus. The hotel is located right in front of the harbour and our balcony directly overlooked the water and all the ships coming in. The hotel itself is modern with air conditioning, fridges in all rooms and the best beds we've ever had. On the downside, having peered into the other rooms whilst they were being cleaned, not all rooms were so modern and to such a high standard (although still very acceptable). Breakfast is in buffet style and is simple but fine. You can also eat dinner for reasonable prices overlooking the water in the Nireus restaurant in the evening. The food is quite good. Located close to the Nos beach, you can swim directly outside the hotel or take a five minute walk to the beach. Swimming shoes are definitely advisable as almost all beaches on Symi are pebbely and there are also a number of sea urchins around. You can also take taxi boats (between 7 and 9 Eur per person) off to a number of other beaches. We particularly liked the Nanos beach with beautiful clear waters and lots of fish swimming around you. During the day, the day-trippers arrive but leave around 4 or 5pm so the island becomes quiet again. There is however, limited things to do. Whilst we like the beach, after two weeks on different beaches we were ready to do something else and (unless you like walking) the options are limited. Symi is a wonderful island, with one of the most picturesque harbours and wonderful sea waters for swimming. Symi in general does not have any big resorts. It is a small island with about 3-4 hotels and many houses for rent. Nireus was a typical Greek hotel in a very good position, in harbour but at the same time at a quiet corner with a nice view. The room was good, typical, but very clean. The breakfast was fine. In the afternoon, during the sunset we used to take a drink at the hotel's bar close to sea, which was really a magnificent and relaxing time. The food during dinner was traditional greek with some Symi specialties, generally good taste. But most of all,we were impressed by the service of the personnel; they were all very friendly and helpful and we felt very comfortable from the very first moment. They deserve congratulations. We will definetely go back to Symi one day, and Nireus will be our first choise again. We stayed at the Hotel Nireus during the first 2 weeks in June this year. The hotel is situated in a lovely spot and we enjoyed the sea view from our balcony. The rooms have individually controlled air conditioning and nice bathrooms with good power showers. All were kept spotlessly clean by 2 very hard working ladies. We were supplied with plenty of clean, soft fluffy towels every day. No need to take beach towels as the hotel provide at reception. Sevasti, the main Receptionist was very friendly and helpful and the service in general throughout the hotel was very good. Breakfast is served buffet style with bread, eggs, fruit, cereals, juice, yogurt, cheeses and meats to suit all tastes. The bar is well stocked and has a very comfortable seating area in which to relax. We would definitely stay at Hotel Nireus again. | ||||
