The location of this hotel is supurb. I arrived early on a Friday morning from an international flight from the US and got lucky enough to get a room that was open. The bathroom was clean - which was the best part of the room. The room was very, very small and dark. The bed did seem clean and was comfortable. The area was very loud all night long and it was difficult to sleep through the noise from outside. I only needed the hotel for one night and wanted it to be cheap and in a great location for touring the city - so it was perfect for me. I would not recommend for groups, couples or families. There is a lot near the hotel. TONS. Great restaurants and shopping and the Louvre. You can easily run to the Siene river and run down along the bank. There is a wonderful - expensive - restaurant nearby. It is Le Grand Colbert, where "Something'sGotta GIve" was filmed. Great food, very French, and excellent service. On the second half of my trip I knew someone staying in this hotel and they were offered the handicap accessible room on the 1st floor and he said it was a rat hole and left the hotel. My first room was on the 3rd floor and faced the street.

This is a real find. Location is excellent - just a block back from the Marais and walking distance to Notre Dame and Isle St. Louis. Rooms are small but the bathrooms are huge - largest I have had in Paris. Ask for rooms at the back if noise is an issue - front facing rooms do tend to be noisy. We negotiated breakfast included in our rate but even paying full price it's generous. Plate of croissant, pain au choc and bread; yoghurt; cereals; fruit juice; salami and cheese; fruit salad. Staff are friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again. just a few blocks east of Hotel de Ville. Great location and easy access to metro, and RER is just over the bridge at Notre Dame. Room was small (most hotel rooms in this price range are typical "paris small". ) Bathroom was really quite large and spotless. They have an elevator and breakfast is served daily. Wall mounted flat screen TV but only gets a lot of channels and only BBC is in English....but you are not in Paris to watch TV. I really liked the unstocked refrigerator in the room....great for picking up a few item to have in the room. Front desk staff spoke english and were VERY pleasant and accomodating. I will stay here again and again. Hotel room has air conditioning and radiator heat. I loved staying at this hotel! The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean and cozy. It was in a perfect loacation. Cafes, ATMs, laundry, stores, metro stop all within quick walking distance. I will certainly stay here again on my next vacation to Paris! Hotel was nice and clean. Room size typical but bathroom could be another entire hotel room which is a plus in Paris. Price is great for its location. Central to everything, Metro, Bus, Water Taxi all within one block. Staff was very friendly, French, English and German. No language barrier here. Breakfast is free and can be taken in Hotel Cafe or your room. We stayed for three nights in Paris at the Hotel Rivoli at 42 Rue de Rivoli. The Hotel was clean but in need of some renovation (We were informed that the owners are in the process of this now). For only 50euros for the two of us per night we had a double room with shower/toilet and the option of breakfast for only 4euros(which is good for Paris). The best Part is that From Room 19 you can step out onto a 5th floor balcony and have an amazing view of the Hotel de Ville and the Rue de Rivoli. Windows are double glazed and staff are friendly and helpful too. I spent few days at Paris Rivoli and really enjoyed it for its location. It is in a very good position, right in the Marais, few blocks from Notre Dame and 50 metres from the metro stop. My room was lovely with a tiny balcony where we could smoke and most important it was very clean. Breakfast is not so great, there are 2 boulangeries just around the corner where you can have a cheaper and better breakfast. The night porter ( sorry I don't remeber his name I just know he is muslim and speaks very good Italian )who checked us in, was really nice, helpfull and friendly. The rest of the staff were polite but not very helpfull:for me it wasn't a big problem, as it was my 6th time in Paris, but it could be a problem for people who don't know the city at all. Anyway, Paris Rivoli is a good hotel in a great location and I hope to go back next year. We really felt us being welcome to this hotel, and it´s the first time that we got a big enough room with a bath that is worth the *** (3)stars. We had a room at the 4th floor facing the street without any noise problem, the breakfast buffe´ that was included, was good (thanks to Ramia who sees that you´ll be pleased!). one more plus is that you have a small fridge or cooler in the room so you can have your own drinks there. Another plus is that the hotel is about 100 meters from St. paul´s metro, which is just in the center of Marais. And yes...for 130 € for two this hotel is a bargain !!! This hotel is in a great neighborhood - the Marais. The street, Rue de Rivoli has everything you could need very close by. I used a laundromat, an internet cafe, a grocery store, the bank, baguette shop, pastry shop, and metro stations, all within a 4 block radius! The staff at the hotel are available 24/7 and they are all great English speakers, if French is not your forte. They were also extremely pleasant. I had a problem with my room phone, and I asked the staff to investigate it at 1 o'clock in the morning, which they gladly did. There is a mini-fridge in the room which is convenient for storing bottles of water or sandwiches to be eaten later. The bathrooms are huge and the cleaning staff did a great job keeping my room neat and clean. The only one downside I would say is that I tried sleeping in one day, and was awoken by members of the cleaning staff in other rooms singing (pleasantly, but still, I was trying to sleep!). Then again, it was 11 in the morning, so I probably should have been up by then! I stayed here in September 2008 and highly recommend this hotel to others. If I am lucky enough to visit Paris again, I would definitely stay here again! Really greate location - 2 metro-stations in 200 steps from hotel, Louvre is about 20-30 min by step, Notre-Dame - 10-15 min. We had Rivoli-faced room - may be some noisy, but nice. Very good prices for this area Rooms are really small, but it's everywhere in central hotels. As hotel is small, there was not opportunity to save room at departure-day till evening - also the problem of most of central hotels The next visiting Paris we'll try to go here again I have stayed at this hotel twice in the past few years. It is inexpensive, but nice. The bathrooms are actually quite large and comfortable for the price. I would highly recommend getting a room facing the street, however because some rooms overlook the courtyard/alley and it is not pretty. Clean, cheap, great location and great balconies. My friend and I were looking for a hotel a step up from a hostel and the Hotel Paris Rivoli turned out great! Our room was on the first floor and faced the back so it was a little dark and noisy, but as students we didn't really mind at all. I would request a street view next time but it still was not 'horrible' enough to switch rooms. The bathroom was huge/clean. The room was clean and safe and decorated. Flat screen tv was a surprise. Same with the huge mini-bar fridge which was empty so we could fill it with our own delicious french food! The people were friendly and looked out for us (especially the night porter and the maid for our floor). The location is amazing. We hardly used the metro and walked everywhere: spending the evening along the Seine or in one of the small, friendly bars behind the hotel. Amazing food/bakeries everywhere. Good shopping (both small boutiques and large stores) near by. The Marais is my favourite area of Paris. While its old, and nothing close to the RitzI have definitely stayed in worse 'modern' accommodations. If you are not coming to Paris for the hotel (student/young travellers) and just need somewhere clean, safe, friendly and central to stay, you really can't go wrong. I'd stay again. Spend your money on food/art/shopping/wine. I have stayed at this hotel several times while visiting Paris. It is definitely not for the business traveler on an expense account, but if you are a middle class North American or European tourist looking for a clean, safe and comfortable room at a reasonable price, then this is it. It is in an excellent central location in the Marais, a stone's throw from l'Hôtel de Ville and Notre Dame (on Rue de Rivoli, between H d V and St Paul metro stops on #1 line). Rooms are generally small (bathroom relatively large) with flat-screen TV, small fridge and wifi in room. Few cable channels (French, German, English, Italian, Spanish). Many maps and tourist info available in lobby. A small elevator reliably goes to all the floors! Breakfast is standard European (croissants, bread, ham, cheese, yogurt, muesli, coffee, etc.). Tip the server 1-2 euros and she will give you special treatment the next AM. The people at reception are all quirky, but never unfriendly or unhelpful... All speak more than enough English. Will definitely stay here again... have recommended it to friends many times. We stayed at the Hotel Paris Rivoli from April 20-23. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is in a GREAT part of town. We loved the atmosphere of this part of the city and found great places to eat, shop etc. It's also walking distance of EVERYTHING! We only took the Metro 3 times. The staff are friendly. One woman at the front desk seems a bit unfriendly, but she warms up after a while. She also speaks beautiful english. The breakfast was very good and quite satisfying. I would definitely stay there again and would recommend highly. The Hotel Paris Rivoli was a great find. A charming little hotel in the heart of Paris that didn't blow our budget. It had everything we needed as a base for three days exploring Paris in September 2006 - although with some minor flaws (noisy aircon, no room safe). Our room was on the 5th floor with a small balcony overlooking the busy Rue de Rivoli - a good place to relax with a cold drink after a hot day's sightseeing before heading out for dinner. The room was small - but the bathroom was surprisingly spacious and included a clothes line over the bath. The tasty continental breakfast was included with the room price and is served in the little hotel restaurant looking out onto the street where you can watch the Parisians heading to work. The best thing about the Paris Rivoli is the location. A couple of hundred metres from either the St Paul or Hotel DeVille metro stations makes a Paris Metro pass your ticket to all the sights of Paris. It is also only a few minutes walk from Notre Dame, the Louvre and the departure points for several Seine river cruises (a must for first time visitors). For travellers heading south by TGV the Gare de Lyon station is only a short taxi ride - or Metro ride away. At the end of the day return to the Paris Rivoli for a freshen up before heading for one of the many Cafes and Restaurants in the area. After dinner you can stroll past Notre Dame to see the buskers and other sights around the river. We were more than happy to have chosen the Paris Rivoli for our stay and can recommend it to anyone on a budget that wants to experience the heart of Paris. We stayed here for 2 nights near the end of December and were very pleased. The hotel had a good size bedroom and bathroom (and from the emergency map we had the smallest room). On arrival the owner had a joke with us that he didnt have a booking (very funny!). The rate was good especially for the quality of the hotel - which in Paris is always a risk. The room had a small balcony overlooking the main street with double glazing (although you can walk to the other rooms on the same floor) - so no noise at night. We didnt need it but there was an air conditioning unit in the room - i imagine that can be a bit noisy. We also had a flat screen TV on the wall and Tea & Coffee. Breakfast was included (even though expeida said it wasnt) - although we over slept and missed that! Location wise it is idea for exploring the Marais area (gay quarter) with its bars, cafes, boutiques and restaurants and also for the Hotel de Ville (less than 10 min walk) and Pompidou Centre (about 15 minute walk). The Metro is a short walk and busses pass the hotel. It was a nice surprise when we got to the hotel. We accidently went into Hotel Rivoli first, thank goodness it wasn't that hotel judging by the reception! Hotel is actually 3 star, definately worthy of it, no more no less. The review previous to mine really says it all, totally agree about the woman at reception, she brings down the overall stay really. Would also like to add breakfast was better than expected and the lady who serves, who is also the cleaner, was always ready with a smile. Shower was broken in the room, was only there for 2 nights so could handle just holding the shower so did not say anything but I am sure it would have been fixed promptly. We were allowed to check in really early which was a great help. Did not hear any noise at all and as it was a street facing room, was totally impressed that I didn't hear traffic either Would definately recommend Stayed there several times over the past 2 years - recently for 8 nights. Rooms have AC. Twin bed rooms are good size (beds pushed together). Rooms with double bed small. Very clean. Modern bathrooms and furnishings. Staff friendly. Multi-lingual (including perfect English). Wireless Internet too. GREATEST LOCATION - can walk everywhere. Best shopping, restaurants bars within 3-10 minute walk. Enjoy. Paradise in Paris at a good price. Stayed for 5 nights. Rooms were small as expected but more than adequate.Location iwas perfect for us. Two blocks from river. One block from Metro. Walk to latin quarter. Continental breakfast was fine. Staff very friendly and helpful. One problem - Air Conditioning was turned off from 10PM to 7AM. I stayed at the Hotel Paris Rivoli for four nights last week and was quite pleased overall! All staff members were friendly and helpful; most spoke English, but would also graciously humor my French. As other reviews have mentioned, the location is fantastic...short walking distance to many sights/museums. Also, nearby Rue Vielle du Temple has many great shops and cafes. There was quite a bit of noise from the street, as well as construction in the building next door, which would be less than ideal for light sleepers. The lack of a shower curtain made for a very wet bathroom floor, but it was nothing that an extra towel couldn't handle. For the rate I paid, I wasn't expecting much more than a clean bed and a hot shower. I'm happy to say that my expectations were exceeded! Mini fridge, A/C, and shampoo/shower gel were all pleasant surprises! I was expecting a dingy mess of a place thanks to a couple of reviews on this site, but was relieved to discover an above average hotel, decent clean room, good view of Rue de Rivoli and of course the excellent location which everyone mentions. Bathroom was good and clean, the provided breakfast, while not especially fancy, was fine to start the day, and let's face it, people on holiday usually make a point of eating away from the hotel - probably more in Paris than anywhere else. Very good value, and in many ways even better than the other two hotels I originally wanted to book, but which I couldn't reserve due to short notice. Weigh the info. After I had already booked this hotel, one of the reviews on this website about the Hotel Paris Rivoli got me scared. I'm very happy that I did not let that become my deciding factor for this hotel. One huge plus was the fact that the room did have air-conditioning. It was unusually hot in June. We had our own very nice bathroom (see picture), we didn't have to share with anyone. Cute, very small balcony. The beds also had pillows. We did have 2 twin beds pushed together, as a queen, which was a little weird, but it was comfortable. Mini-Fridge in room. The staff was helpful. Though we think the owner tried to tongue my friend. The decor of the room was a little outdated, except for the bathroom, but it was clean. Lots of great restaurants and shops close by. We bought a metro pass, but hardly used it. You can walk to Notre Dame and Latin Quarter. There was an outdoor market within walking distance every wednesday eve, and saturday morning near the Hotel De Ville (city hall). Also, they have a nice breakfast in the morning for 7EU. I'd recommend this hotel to a friend. I saw plenty of hotels of equal quality for much more $. If it wasn't for the price, I would've rated it average, but the value makes it above average. Check out my photos of the room. Feel free to email me with questions. We stayed here three nights in July. The location is unbeatable as others have noted. We walked almost everywhere, except to watch the Bastille Day fireworks at the Eiffel Tower. The Marais area is wonderful (shopping, restaurants, museums, ...) and you are so close to Isle St. Louis (and the two best gelato stands in France!), the Isle de Citie (Notre Dame) and the Latin Quarter. The rooms are small but comfortable. We had rooms on the back, which avoids the noise from the busy Rue Rivoli. The air conditioning was welcome. The bathroom was roomy and modern. The staff were helpful and gracious. The breakfast is a good deal and better than many petit dejeuner you will encounter- they included yogurt and offered an additional choice of cereals- you can only eat so many croissants! My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Paris Rivoli during December 2003. Overall, we were happy with the hotel. We were on the side of the hotel with balconies overlooking Rue Rivoli. The hotel was great in terms of location (in the Marais, as other reviews said, perfect location for everything - shopping, restaurants, etc.). There was quite a bit of traffic noise on our side of the hotel, since Rue Rivoli is a very busy street, so we used earplugs to sleep. The bathroom was large with a full sized tub, and our room was a decent size (small by American hotel standards, but fine for a European hotel). The room had a mini fridge, which was nice for keeping some snacks and drinks in the room. The best thing about this hotel is location. We only took the metro a few times during our entire stay even though the St. Paul metro station is very nearby, because- most things (Notre Dame, the Seine, the Lourve, the Latin Quarter, etc.) were within a 15 minute walk, and we really enjoyed walking around the city. The employees were very nice - while some had rather limited English skills (We unfortunately don't know French!), basic communication went smoothly. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel because we wanted to explore the city, but the breakfast room did look quite nice (with a window opening to the street - it looks like a real cafe from the outside), and in retrospect, we probably should've had breakfast there for a couple mornings just to save money (since many places in Paris charge $4 for just a cup of coffee, we realized breakfast at the hotel is a better deal). We stayed in a double room at the Hotel Paris Rivoli for 5 nights in late July 2003. The best thing about this hotel is that it is situated on Rue de Rivoli in the heart of the Marais district (4e arr), a short walk (<5 mins) from the St Paul metro stop and close to restaurants, nightlife/bars, supermarkets, patisseries, etc. And you are about a 10-15 min walk from Notre Dame on Ile de Cite, and close to the Hotel de Ville. The room was larger than we expected, but still not all that large. The bathroom was extremely spacious too (for some unknown reason). We had a room NOT overlooking Rue de Rivoli, which was probably better in terms of traffic noise - our room was quiet. Aircon too, but beware that they turn off the power to the aircon sometime in the evening, so in summer leave the aircon on as cold as possible during the day while you are out so that the room is cool in the night when you are sleeping. Complimentary breakfast was always good and filling (pastries and coffee basically). Staff were all extremely helpful and friendly. Most seemed to speak english quite well too. Would definitely stay there again. We stayed for five days on March 26 at this hotel. The best feature is it's location, near the river Seine, Notre Damme, Louvre. It is situated on the Rue Rivoli, between St. Paul and Hotel De Ville Metro Stations. Otherwise, the rooms are small with worn out carpets and bedcovers. The en suite bathroom was big, which is not very common in French hotels. Central heating worked well too. Breakfast is not included, and it's price is too high for it's value. You can have an excellent breakfast for half the price in any of the nearby patisseries. Don't buy a week long metro pass, better to hop on and off the L'Open Tour bus for two days and pay with individual metro tickets the rest of your stay. The best way to get to know Paris is on foot! Front rooms are noisy, better a back room without a view. I only spent 1 night at Hotel Paris Rivoli for my short visit to Paris. The location was excellent with an easy walk to 2 metro stations. I booked a single and was put in room 101. The room was fairly nice but the bathroom was great. It was of decent size and had a window, filling the bathroom with natural light and fresh air. My only complaints are that the walls are paper thin and the smell of cigarette smoke from another room wafted into mine during the middle of the night. As other reviewers had mentioned, the hallways and stairway were ridiculously dark, I had to turn on the hallway light everytime I got out of the elevator to my floor and since I was only on the 1st floor (2nd floor to Americans), I preferred to take the stairs but it was too dangerous because it was so dimly lit. I tried booking this hotel directly through their website but after not receiving any reply for over 2 weeks, I booked with Expedia instead and got an instant confirmation. As a solo female traveler, I felt perfectly safe and comfortable staying at this hotel. Booked two double-occupancy, twin bed nights at the hotel after reading the reviews on this site. The fantastic location (close to several Métro stops, sights, shopping) at a decent price was a big plus. Stayed in room 305, next to the elevator and in the back of the hotel. Some noise -- you could hear opening and closing doors, but no the elevator -- but bearable. Room was a decent size with a decent selection of European cable stations on a flat screen TV. The modern bathroom was surprisingly large. Check-in and -out were a breeze, but the lady at the front desk seemed rather indifferent. Took the elevator after trying the stairs once: they were narrow, twisty, and unlit for the first two floors. Seemed a bit dangerous should a fire break out. Overall, a good bargain. I would stay there again. We stayed at this hotel for two nights. I would recommend it for short breaks on a budget if you're looking for somewhere clean and fairly comfortable in a good location, only a few stops direct from Gare du Nord. Our room was small but nicely decorated. Facilities pretty basic with, surprisingly, a large, flat screen satellite TV (not that we watched much with only two days in Paris!). Bathroom was clean and good sized, and everything worked. The only annoyance was that our room was stuffy and too warm. There was an air conditioning unit on the wall, but it wasn't on and couldn't be switched on. I don't know if it was too early in the season or just not working, but we weren't aggrieved enough to complain. We propped the balcony door open for some air, but the street noise was pretty horrific, particularly on Saturday night. Staff were very helpful and all spoke enough English to be able to communicate. The included breakfast was the usual croissants and coffee fare, and the kitchen staff very friendly, but beware they speak almost no English, so be careful how you order your coffee! All in all, the price and location really can't be beat if you're on a budget. Stayed at the Paris Rivoli for 3 nights in May. From a location perspective, you cannot go wrong with Rivoli. You are a short walk from St. Paul and Hotel De Ville subway stops as well as a short walk from the Louvre, St. Germain, etc. The rooms require some updating. The room we had looked scary and unclean and was pretty much only good for sleeping (you wouldn't want to stay longer then you need to...) The bathroom and shower looked unclean and for some reason the shower doesn't have a curtain so you have water splashing all over the place. The hotel's walls were also paper-thin and you could hear people in the hallways at all times of the night and early morning. As for the staff, they could be friendlier... my husband an i just spent last week in hotel paris rivoli on 19 rue rivoli (there's another one at number 42); we go every spring to paris and never had a hotel in such a good location; other than that, the staff was ok; they didn't speak any english (so practice your french); the rooms are extremly small and the breakfast is complete if you wake up very early in the morning (if not, you don't get any ham, cheese or croissants, only a third of baguette); the cleaning lady only took the garbage every day and made the beds, but no more(we had to ask for new soap bars, no vacuuming the carpet or cleaning the sink, no dusting for a week!); another down-we had a room at the 5th floor to avoid street noise and we had ANTS!we even took some home-i found them in my luggage when i unpacked. anyway, nothing can beat the location and most hotels in paris are no better. We had heard rave reviews of the Hotel Paris Rivoli from friends who stayed there last year. Our conclusion is that it's a decent hotel in a great neighborhood, with a caveat. Just two blocks from the Hôtel de Ville Métro stop, it's very convenient to many key sights, such as Notre Dame. And the Marais itself is a fun, busy, safe neighborhood with lots of shops and restaurants. In general, we can't complain much about the hotel. The room was clean; the elevator was functional; we had a big, beautiful bathroom; the staff was courteous (despite their complete inability to understand my broken French); and the traditional French breakfast in the first-floor café was very tasty, with accommodations to foreigners such as meat and cereal. Our only real complaint is that the hotel room itself was extremely small. The queen-size bed occupied nearly the entire room. These two slender adults found ourselves tripping over each other whenever we tried to navigate the room. The wardrobe contained only two hangers and one small shelf, so there was literally no space to unpack. Overall, a good place to stay for one or two nights in Paris. Beyond that, you might feel claustrophic. really, you can't beat the location and the price is good too. staff are friendly and speak english. complaints are: no pillows, shared shower on other floor with hand-held shower head only, and all rooms face very noisy street (bring earplugs). but i would probably stay there again, unless i have more money to spend elsewhere. I stayed here one week the end of March. Overall it wasn't bad---great location, that in itself makes me think I may stay there again. The room was clean, it was just annoying that even with the do not disturb sign up, housekeeping every morning would knock on my door. If I were to stay there again, would make a point to tell the front desk for a later cleaning, so as not to get constantly woken while getting over jetlag! The front desk staff was very friendly, with the exception of one woman (the one with long hair, luckily at the end of my stay). She shrugged her shoulders when I (nicely) informed of a problem, and actually rolled her eyes when I said bye to her (in French mind you!), very rude. But the other four staff members over the course of the week were great. Paris is so beautiful, can't let one rude person ruin the great memory! I wonder if some reviewers were reviewing the Hotel Rivioli (down the street and around the corner) instead of the Hotel Paris Rivioli. I found the Hotel Paris Rivioli (no. 19) to be in a fabulous location, the staff very friendly, the breakfast above normal (yoghurt, cereal, big cup of good coffee, 3 types of rolls, orange juice), small TV, and the beds comfortable and the bathroom modern and just fine. The room was small, but that is what 3 star European hotels are like. All for under 100 Euros a night, double occupancy and breakfast. We were hardly ever there as Paris was at our doorstep. March 2005 Very good location and good price. The staff is helpful in general, but better you start the conversation with bon jour or excuse me moi!! Handy for the Louvre and Notre Dame area and near to the metro which is easy enough to see all the sights. The room was ok (could have better pillows and tea making facilities). Considering the cost of the surrounding cafes the breakfast was good with friendly staff. The rooms a little dated but acceptable - road noise but no problems. Bathroom good size and very clean. All in all not a bad place to stay if you want to walk the city - but take the metro - it is far easier!! My Partner and I stayed at the Hotel Rivoli for 2 nights in November. You definitely cannot beat the location as the other reviews have said -- walking distance to shopping, the Louvre, Notre Dame, Metro, etc. It gave us the opportunity to pop back in to freshen up before going back out to eat or have a drink. The negatives were that the beds were hard (probably could use being replaced) and the room was not as clean as we are used to. (There is noise from the street side, but I happen to like that.) Albergo delizioso in stile parigino.

Stayed there for weekend of the Ireland v France rugby game, Six Nations 2008. Location was excellent but was not overly impressed with the hotel. Rooms are clean but very small and basic, no tea or coffee making facilities, no minibar etc. The night porter was obviously not bothered about noise in the hotel as we were woken by another drunken guest hammering on our room door late at night. He was looking for his friends room apparently! Did'nt give us the impression that it was the most secure and safe place to be staying. Would'nt stay there again. My wife and I stayed at this hotel from May 24th until the 31 st of this year. The location is superb! It is very close to the Cité and Cathedral of Notre Dame. It is within walking distance of the Hotel De Ville (City Hall) and the very nice little restaurants of the Marais. It is also very close to the Ille de Saint Louis. The area is safe to walk at all times. The room is small and the bathroom has a very nice size (for Paris standard). It is also very very clean. They clean every day and very very well. So far so good... The thing is that there are a few employees that are very rude and with very bad manners. Isabelle is a very rude woman with no regards for the customers´s need whatsoever. Only two employees at the Reception are nice: Monique (wonderful lady) and one of the night concierges (short, bulky with white hair); but there is nothing that can offset the rudeness of Isabelle. Overall, I wouldn´t recommend that anyone stay at this hotel, unless you leave very early in the morning and return after 7:00 p.m. Wouldn´t recommend you pay for breakfast either, unless the give it to you for free (they do that during the low season). There are many pattiseries around the corner where you can have a nice meal for less. I stayed here in 1989 with my sister on a college summer trip. Bed was lumpy, shower terrible, and what was up with those crazy french tube pillows? However, the view from the room was great. Because the experience was so campy, I went back with my wife in 1995 as a joke - things hadn't changed at all. Pink toilet paper ahoy! E'nuff said, The French Guy. My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights in early November 2004. I agree with the other reviewers that the location is great, but the room itself was not very good. The room was quite dirty, the beds were hard, and the hotel was very noisy. Though it is not very expensive, there are better deals out there. RuN Away from this place! ~Expensive, dirty, cramped, broken down, beat up with sticky bathroom floors and angry screams coming through a cracked window that looked out to a closed dirty atrium. We read the reviews on Tripadvisor.com and my husband and I reserved a room for a week, sight unseen. We had hoped to spend our 9th anniversary here. We were so upset when saw the place in person!~~ The roomsare dated broken down 70's decorwith broken down pressboard furniture~matted down old short shag carpet~little hand written "DO NOT" signs everwhere~Avocado, brown and brown amber colors everywhere~walls had cracks~stains and chipping paint~a cracked window and honest to GOD the bottom of my husbands shoes stuck to the white ceramic tile floors in the bathroom! I tiptoed into the bathroom and noticed that I could see wide streaks of cleaning residue everywhere~toilet was right next to the tub which is right next to the pedestal sink~with the dripping faucet!!I must tell you that Hotel Paris Rivoli reminds me of some of the prostitute hotels that I have walked past quickly in Times Square New York . I did not want to sleep in the bed because the old bedspread had mysterious fluid stains on it and I noticed a deep pool like dip in the center of the narrow double mattress. The stairway was not lighted and the elevator did not function. After the long train ride from Koln, Germany, we set our bags down in this place only long enough to get out of here. We used the phone, we called Expedia. We left our bags in the room. We struggled to close the door to our room and struggled to get the door, locked?. We took a cab to the Bureau of Tourism near the opera house downtown. For the same price we ended up staying at a REAL 3 star hotel~which was clean quiet and safe. This took 2hours to work out and I was relieved to find our 2 bags there when we got back to our room. WE only had to pay for one night to cancel our reservation~we ended up being robbed of $110.00~including the additional charges for calling the 800 number for Expedia! The front desk madame was nice though and kind to us and every quest she welcomed. Yes, she was nice enough in a dismissive way to the elderly senior ladies who were having problems with the broken elevator and the broken lock to their room. She took a break from the screaming argument she was having over the phone to acknowledge their pleas for help! The narrow hall like front desk area is nice enough in a backpacking across Europe/youth hostel sort of way. However After being out of the USA for 35 days and attending an academic conference in the Baltic States and staying in England and Germany~I expected more from this hotel. This place is great if you only need to rent a room for a couple of hours !
