Pretty Hotel, but we were charged twice the confirmed rate! | Read all reviews
Upon arriving to the hotel in the early afternoon with a 7 and 8 year old in tow, we were told by the staff there was a mistake in the booking and that was the rate for one room. They could charge us double or try an call a few hotels to see if they had space! We had flown all night from Miami and we just wanted to get to our room as you can imagine with young children. Of course, the few hotels that were called were booked, so we were stuck and agreed to stay hoping to sort this out with the manager. The staff was not very helpful and basically said it was our problem that we did not receive another email stating the rate mix up. They could never show us the date and time that the email was sent to us or any proof that it was even sent! My husband and I thought this was horrible customer service since we had our printed confirmation in hand when we came. My husband has travelled for business internationally for 10 years as well as our family has lived in another country for 2 and half years. We are used to things not going as planned so we always travel with as much information regarding reservations as possible. To top it off, our DVD player was missing out of one of the rooms and the hotel staff could never find it! I would expect such in a hotel that was less expensive but not this hotel. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. They were not willing to help us at all!

My husband and I spent the week of April 13-19, 2008 in Paris, and we stayed at Hotel Relais Saint Sulpice. The entire experience was just as wonderful and fabulous as I dreamed it would be. I had this hotel bookmarked for four years, checking back regularly to see if there might be a better place to stay or one that had more of the "French experience" I was looking for. Hotel Relais Saint Sulpice remained the place I wanted to stay and we were both extremely pleased with it. This was our first visit to Paris. I am an artist and art teacher, so the week was spent visiting art museums and churches. The hotel's location is ideal. We walked almost everywhere from the hotel. (Granted, we were sore.) We arrived on Sunday morning at 10, hoping to just stash our bags and come back for the normal 2:00 check in time. But Mirko had our room for us within 15 minutes, and it was nice to quickly unpack and freshen up before walking across the street and up the flight of stairs to the organ loft at St. Sulpice for Sunday Mass. What a way to begin our Paris adventure! The hotel room was charming and tasteful (with French silk fabrics on the walls, and charming bath tile featuring a lizard) and we enjoyed opening our window onto the center courtyard to hear the birds in the morning. It is a quiet hotel on a quiet street. But only steps away from extremely lively streets full of excellent restaurants and amazing shops. Coming back to the hotel at the end of the day felt like coming home. We had not one bad experience. Everyone was very friendly and tres patient with our stumbling French. We were off our diets for the week and savored the breads, cheeses, wines, chocolates and gelatos! When we returned to the U.S., my husband said something somewhat out of character for him: "I miss Paris!" So we must return and return soon. Now that we have accomplished all the things "one must do", next time we will slow down the pace, center our days around restaurants and meals, and try to meld more into the city's vibe. And we will stay at Hotel Relais Saint Sulpice. The hotel was very quaint and fit right in with its French surroundings. If you don't want to stick out as a tourist, this place is perfect. The people are so sweet, friendly and helpful and the place was just perfect! My husband and I booked a stay here based on the trip advisor reviews, the hotel site, and Rick Steve's suggestions in his book on Paris. We were not disappointed. The hotel is small and intimate and is located on a quiet street, but at the same time it is convenient to metro stations, beautiful shops, lively cafes, and a large enclosed market. If you don't mind a few flights of stairs with your suitcases, the hotel is within an easy walk of the RER line C route that comes from CDG airport. We took it coming and going, and, as we are not light travellers, when I say we had no problem, most people would find this the best and cheapest way to arrive and depart. We booked the deluxe room for 210 euros and were given room 10 on the first (ie, second) floor. It was clean, and the bed was comfortable. The window looked on the inner courtyard. The accommodations consisted of a long entry hall, which contained a desk and wardrobe, a separate toilet room, bath, and bedroom. The bedroom had a small table and two small cafe-style chairs. We ate breakfast here three times, and the setting was pleasant. I would stay here again--so many great shops to window shop nearby! What a lovely hotel! My mother, teenage son, and I spent 9 nites here and had a fabulous experience. Both of our rooms were well appointed and spacious; both had lovely balconies looking an interior courtyard. Most importantly, the staff was warm, friendly and welcoming. Despite my butchered French, they always seemed to understand, if not anticipate, my needs. I will stay here again and again. We spent two weekends at the end of June, combined with a midweek trip to Beaune, at the Relais St. Sulpice. As others have mentioned, Veronique and Murko at the Front Desk provided a warm welcome and helpful advice. Prior to our arrival, Murko answered my questions by email, and made restaurant and airport shuttle reservations for us. We stayed in two different rooms over the two weekends. The first room was on the ground floor, facing the garden/courtyard, and was very quiet. The second weekend we were on the 3rd floor, facing the street. The outside noise was not a distraction. Both rooms were very small, but the superior towels and linens, and pleasing decor compensated for the tiny rooms. A couple of minor malfunctions: the safe in one room was not working, and the hairdryers in both rooms were hard to use. We passed up the hotel's breakfast, preferring to find baguettes and croissants on Rue de Seine. The location of the hotel is within walking distance of several nice restaurants. We had very good dinners at La Bastide Odeon, La Maison du Jardin, and La Petite Cour. There are several interesting markets nearby - Marche St.-Germain, an indoor food market and shopping mall; and the outdoor markets of Rue de Buci. We walked up Rue de Seine, across Blvd St.-Germain to access a multitude of shops and restaurants, including an internet cafe at Haagen Daz. Being so close to the Jardin du Luxembourg is a delight. Metro stations are also close by. If you like a small and cozy hotel, the Relais St. Sulpice is an excellent value. You can't beat the location and service! We stayed at Hotel Relais St. Sulpice for our honeymoon May 21-27 and had a most relaxing stay. We chose the hotel based on other reviews in TripAdvisor and we were not disappointed. The staff at the front desk, esp Mirko and Veronique, were friendly, helpful and very patient with our lack of French language abilities! The hotel is very centrally located, we walked to all the major sites - Arc du Triomphe, Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, Army Museum & Napoleon's Tomb, the Eiffel Tower, Rue Cler. The hotel is right near St. Germain Blvd. and close to countless sidewalk cafes, bars, and patisseries, not to mention boutiques and shops. Our best dinners were at Chez Maitre Paul and La Maison du Jardin, both short walks from the hotel. Our room (Room 12) looked out onto the back side of the St. Sulpice cathedral. It was a small room (double bed) but had large double windows that opened wide for good air circulation. The side street could be a bit noisy at night sometimes with foot traffic and the occasional motorcycle, but nothing too unpleasant. The toilet was in a separate closet and the shower and sink in another small bathroom but were spotless. The linens were top quality, large thick bath towels and a fluffy down comforter on the bed. The room was clean and well kept. Overall, I have to say that the best part about our stay was our treatment by the staff. They were so gracious and kind to us, always a smiling face to greet us. They helped us with excursion ideas, restaurant recommendations and reservations and countless directions of how to get somewhere. Highly recommend for that reason alone! Au Revoir ~Denise Just got back from a four night stay. Location couldn't be better: one block from Luxembourg Gardens, five minute walk to St. Sulpice or Mabillon metro(either one can get you very easily to anywhere in Paris), five minute walk to Blvd St. Germain, ten minute walk to the Seine then another five minutes to Notre Dame or Louvre; in the midst of literally dozens of excellent restaurants, bistros, brasseries and cafes as well as upscale and also less trendy shops. Then the hotel itself: most gracious personel ready at all times to answer all questions; spotless and very warm and welcoming rooms(we were in the deluxe rooms which are very spacious). Finally for the value received, the rates are a steal for this area. Naturally as you can tell from the above, we would return here in a heartbeat. I stayed 2 nights at the Relais Saint Sulpice from March 19 to March 21, 2007. Actually, I was fortunate to have visited 5 days earlier all the 6 or so hotels in my list. I was very specific: I wanted to stay at Saint Germain area and close to the Saint Sulpice Chiurch. It is very rare that a traveler can visit each and every hotel option before making a final commitment. Lucky for me I had a full day to visit each hotel in my list before my intended check-in. What attracted me to the Relais Saint Sulpice was the friendliness of the staff (Veronica) who was courteous and gracious enoiugh to show me a room. The front desk at XXX Hotel on my list was gruff and told me to return in the morning and when I did, I didnt find the place as clean. The Relais Saint Sulpice is almost a 4-star hotel with a 3-star rating. The room, bathroom and toilet is humongous by Parisian standards (emphasis on the words Parisian standards) and the soft bed was truly outstanding. Their breakfast was also sumptuous. How about location? It is directly behind the Eglise Saint Sulpice.and is a few steps from the Luxembourg Gardens. Everything that is needed to make the traveller comfortbale is a few steps away from the hotel. Location (the Cafe de la Mairie is about 30 steps away) is great but ithe hotel located on a narrow one-way street. Scooters and motorbikes and cars run very fast in front of the hotel and one could have an accident if one didnt look at the road before crossing. At night Rue de Garanciere is totally peaceful (no cars nor pedestrians) , unilke Rue de Canettes or Rue Bonaparte or Rue Saint Sulpice itself. Anything negative? None that I can speak of. The staff was always cordial and helpful. And for those wanting to hear Mass daily, the Eglise Saint Sulpice has one on Mondays through Fridays at 9:00 a.m. Not to forget that there are several Catholic churches and services morning noon and night that are less than one kilometer away from Relais : there's one at Rue du Bac (miraculous Medal Shrine) , and at Rue Sevres (Eglise Saint ignatius). To cite an often used words:" A big bang for the buck in the Saint Germain des Pres area " - this is it. This hotel is a great hidden secret. The location is fantastic in St. Germaine de Pres-you have the accessiblity of two metro lines. The RER B line is about a 10 minute walk. The hotel is surrounded by wondeful restaurants, boutiques and patissieries. Gerald Mulot a pastissiere is just around the corner. I would go back to the hotel just for this bakery. The room was really nice-duvets on the bed. I doubt that there is a bad room in the hotel as you are either on the street which is quite quiet or facing the inner courtyard. The hotel staff is exceptionaly friendly and helpful. The graciously answer any questions or requests. This was my first time staying here-the hotel I usually stay at was booked. However I would stay here again. There is nothing that needs improvement in this hotel. My husband had the breakfast which was the usual eggs, bacon, ham, cheese, croissants and fresh fruit. I think 12 euros is high for breakfast, but he thought the food was good. I took my own tea, and fruit to breakfast and they were fine with me sitting in the breakfast room. We spent our 10 year wedding anniversary at Relais St Sulpice. We were pleased on all accounts. Small and personal hotel with beautiful rooms! Stayed for 3 days in June prior to beginning of a 2 week bicycle trip in Burgundy. We booked a deluxe room which looked out over a small garden. Room size was fine. Bathroom very clean. Front desk was helpful in booking an early taxi trip to airport. The location is great. On an alleyway across from one side of the Saint Sulpice cathedral (of Da Vinci Code fame). This makes the hotel very quiet, but it is also easy walking distance to restaurants, bakery, bars and two metro stops. Another thing, it has Air Conditioning, which we did not need the days we were there, but the following week the temperature in Paris went over 90 degrees. I travel to Paris twice a year and always stay at this hotel (if I can get in). The staff is unusually friendly and helpful for Paris, I love the location (request a room that looks out on the church featured in the opening chapter of the Da Vinci Code) which is less that five minute walk from the Odeon Metro. The rooms are on the smaller side - but this is typically for this neighborhood in Paris. I would recommend this hotel to anyone! We've been to Paris many times, but this was our first stay here - and it's a real find. This hotel is the perfect match of economy and comfort. The rooms are nicely done - even charming, though sparcely furnished (we were in a deluxe) and the bathroom was a good size. What you're not paying for (and you don't get) is good concierge service (a front desk that makes reservations, knows directions, etc.) but they were very kind. That said, the quality of the rooms is far better than what you'd find in most Parisian hotels for an additional 50 euros a night, so this place is definitely worth it. The neighborhood is fantastic. Skip the breakfast (it's not very good and the room actually has a very musty smell). Also, there's the Marche Saint Germain right around the corner with all sorts of fresh produce, breads, cheeses and meats as well as some good boulangeries. We loved this charming hotel. We stayed there for 5 nights and had a deluxe room. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the courtyard. I wouldn't describe the room as big but it was pretty roomy and absolutely spotless. If you don't have a lot of luggage, I would stick to a standard room. We had a queen size bed, which was very comfortable, with a down comforter and fluffy pillows. The bathroom was a decent size and also spotless. It had huge fluffy towels with a warming rack. The room also had individual air conditioning, a hair dryer, safe, a TV and wireless internet (extra charge if you wanted to use it). The TV was not the best--it was either black and white or of such poor quality that the picture looked black and white--not a big deal if you are not a big TV watcher. The hotel is on a side street, so it is very quiet--great for a good night sleep. The location of the hotel cannot be beat. It is near a metro station and within walking distance of many attractions. The staff was friendly and helpful. Skip the breakfast--it's not worth the price. There are plenty of cafes and bakeries around that have far better food at a fraction of the price. If you are looking for a big American style hotel, this hotel isn't for you. If you are looking for a smaller, clean, comfortable hotel with loads of charm, the Relais Saint Sulpice fits the bill. I would definitely stay there on my next trip. We loved the Hotal Relais St. Sulpice! Paris is wonderful, and this hotel is situated right in the heart of a beautiful Paris neighborhood. We walked almost everywhere...many major sights are at your doorstep. Very quiet, charmingly decorated rooms overlooking either a courtyard or St. Sulpice church (I liked the courtyard view personally). The standard rooms are small, but they are impeccably clean, looked fairly new, and the bathrooms are beautiful, with the nicest towels I have encountered at any hotel! The staff was the best! So very nice and helpful are Veronica and Stephany! We would definitely stay there again. Loved our second stay at this charming French hotel! The location in St. Germain cannot be beat. The room was smallish but lovely with a nice bath. Unfortunately the price of the breakfast is no longer included with the room, but we enjoyed it all the same. For the location and price this hotel was right on the mark. There are many lovely shops and restaurants in the area and the Musee d'Orsay is not far. Very nice. We stayed at the Relais Saint-Sulpice in in June and July of 2004 and found it to be a really great place to stay. Emmanuel at reception was ever so helpful and friendly. The rooms are nice, clean, and modern and the street side views of the Eglise Saint-Sulpice are fantastic. Located in the heart of the city and very close to the Mabillion metro stop made travel easy. Highly recommended! The most wonderful words a jetlagged transatlantic traveler can hear when staggering into a hotel lobby on a Monday morning are, "Your room is ready." It was, and it was the first of many incidents that made our stay a pleasure. We spent a week at Relais St. Sulpice in April '04. The hotel is charming; so is the neighborhood. It's a convenient base for exploring the city. The very helpful front desk staff spoke English fluently (a little basic French is needed to converse with the serving staff). The breakfast buffet was generous -- well worth the price. Our room overlooked the beautful vine-draped courtyard. Room, bath (separate toilet room) and our long hallway connecting us to the public corridor were all freshly and tastefully decorated. The feng shui of Place St Sulpice has always attracted me. The hotel of the same name is just behind the church and highly convenient for where I wanted to be in the 5-ieme arrondissment. Since I found the HRSS an oasis of peace and tranquility, I am somewhat perplexed by some of the sour reviews on your web-pages. As an insomiac, I am most fastidious where I stay and I would surely stay here again, even if it is a little pricey. I asked for a very quiet room and I sure got one. Now, to start with, there are few hotels in Paris as silent throughout the night as this one and in such an elegant architectural setting. The HRSS must have been the bishop's residence perhaps. The staff at the desk were friendly [spoke English as well as French], the bed-room on the court was indeed charming [if a little small], the bed and pillows excellent and the breakfast room delightful. The decor of the hotel was also most tasteful, with many interesting prints and etchings. It was a restful environment, quite unclaustrophobic and unpretentious. Perhaps they could offer a better 'internet-rate' for the room and especially for the breakfast. Paris is indeed becoming a little 'over-the top' since the Euro rebounded. Times are surely going to get tougher and belts will be tightened... 'Charm itself' echoes my companion. What more do you want? I had just stayed a week at the Hotel Elysee for work before checking in the Relais St. Sulpice and let me tell you it was like walking into a 5 star hotel after being at Hotel Elysee. The staff was so friendly and helpful. I believe we were in room 20 which faced the courtyard. The room was a decent size with a queen size bed, nice size bathroom w/ a separate toilet. It was clean, quiet and perfect for the little time we spent in our room. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends. Picking a hotel in Paris is tough - but when you can narrow down the area (Lux. Gardens/St. Germain) and the price range ($250 or less/night) - this is the best hotel you can choose! The hotel is great..small but romantic. The staff couldn't be nicer, and helped us with maps and museum info. And the hotel is in a great location - two block walk to all of St. Germain, Lux Gardens and metro stops. The best news is that it is on a quiet street - it is NOISY in this area and I can't imagine how people ever slept in some other hotels I saw. The library is a great place to have a quick drink before going out at night, and the breakfast is well worth the 12 euros. The bathroom is small, but not sure why that is a problem! This is not an American businessman's hotel - it is quaint, quiet, romantic and a great place to stay in Paris! Not bad value for Paris. Clean tidy rooms, quaint and homely common areas and well located in a quiet street just behind the St Sulpice church. Very convenient for the St Germain area and Rue de Buci. Best thing about it were the staff. Very helpful and friendly. We didn't eat breakfast there (too many other places for croissant and coffee). Sydney, Australia Two things stand out about this place. The freindly staff and the great location. From our arrival we were greeted with warmth and good humour. Excellent restaurant recomendations were suggested and the staff were very happy to ring around in order to get us a table despite the lack of notice on a holiday weekend. The location next to Saint Sulpice is fantastic. You are in the heart of the pretty San Germain. Walking distance to many attractions, atmospheric bars and traditional restaurants. There are a number of metro staions within 5 minutes walk and the RER to the airportis only a 5-10 minute walk away. Our room was a deluxe. It was smallish and overlooked Saint Sulpice. There was a separate ante room with a bathroom and a toilet off it. Being on the street side there was a little more noise than I expect you get with the courtyard rooms but this was not obtrusive and we slept well. The room and bathroom were very clean and serviced well each day. I wouldn't bother with the breakfast, many Parisen cafe's on your doorstep. We enjoyed our stay and will return. We stayed a week at the Relais Saint Sulpice. The "de luxe" room was a bit small, but it was clean and it had a separate toilet and bathroom. The staff were very helpful in getting us taxis, giving restaurant recommendations, and making things easy for us. The location in the heart of St. Germain des Pres is phenomenal, and is within walking distance of the Seine, the Louvre, Notre Dame and several other landmarks. If you want upscale American-hotel style large rooms, this isn't the place, but we were looking for something with old world charm and this fit the bill perfectly. In addition, we didn't spend much time in the hotel other than to sleep (it's Paris, who wants to sit in the hotel?), so we were delighted just to have such a central location. It's definitely a hotel we would go back to on our next vist. We stayed at the St. Sulpice due to a referral from a friend. It was everything we could want in Paris. The rooms are small, but tastefully decorated. We had enough storage space for clothing plus empty suitcases. The service was excellent and most of the staff spoke very good English. We do not speak French so that was a plus for us. It is located by St Sulpice Church and within walking distance to lots of sites. We loved it and will go there again. The rooms are airconditioned which was very important to us in late July. My first trip to Paris and this hotel was recommended by a friend. I found it to be very pleasant, the staff courteous and the atmosphere romantic and charming. I would recommend this hotel. Thanks for making my stay in Paris memorable. A hotel of great taste and charm. As a New York fashion designer for 25 years and having stayed in many fine right bank hotels, this one is still my favorite. Location is superb and the decor of the hotel is very gorgeous and quite individual. If you like impersonal chain hotels, then this one is not for you.

water leaked into our ceiling and shorted out the lites. it took them forever to halfway fix the problem. bathroom tiny and nasty, peeling paint. location is about the only good thing about the place. We reserved a deluxe room over a month before the arrival and pre-paid the entire balance before arriving to guarantee the deluxe room. When arriving, we were placed in a sub-standard room - telling us the room that was reserved for us was given to someone else. End of story. I was shocked at the lack of professionalism and the rudeness. The room looked like something for homeless people. The pictures they display on their website are totally mis-leading and a false representation of what is offered. I hate to be one of the bad stories but this was totally unacceptable. We even had to ask for a refund of the price difference between the rooms. They didn't even offer. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. My husband and I just got home from our "dream vacation" in France and the worst hotel that we stayed in, by far, was the Relais St. Sulpice! It was dirty, expensive, smelly, and certainly not worth the $550 that we paid to stay there for two nights! Our room was tiny, and there were people yelling outside during much of the night; not to mention the annoying street lights...we had to choose between having some kind of air in the room by leaving the curtains open or suffocating (there were no blinds on the window.) I would not recommend this hotel to anyone! How it ever got into the Michelin guide is a mystery; it may be resting on old laurels! Upon arriving to the hotel in the early afternoon with a 7 and 8 year old in tow, we were told by the staff there was a mistake in the booking and that was the rate for one room.
