5 of 5  very clean, A TripAdvisor Member, Ishpeming, MI, March 25, 2007

Very nice and clean had no problems at all. My husband didnt want to spend much on hotel stay, so this was perfect. I saw the review that said no coffee makers, but ours had one in the room. loved the waffles in the morning, not what we expected at a super 8!

5 of 5  Excellent!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Wisconsin, May 11, 2005

This was the cleanest Super 8 we have ever stayed at! My husband was even impressed - which says a lot in itself. We had a couple of bad experiences at Super 8's and were not going to stay at another, but it was late and we were both too tired to drive so we stopped in since they were right off I39.

The general manager was even working and helping cleaning rooms, something I have never seen before! She was so friendly, she even offered to clean an extra room in order to fit us in because they were sold out.

The breakfast in the morning was better than the usual danish and coffee, they had juice, bagels, english muffins, fruit, cold cereal and oatmeal, muffins and some kind of pastry that was excellent! They even set it up to look really cute.

The staff was very friendly, the desk clerks were cheery and made us feel very welcome. This hotel deserves honors in my book!!! They could use some upgrades like coffee makers in rooms, but they did have coffee in the lobby all night long, and the manager said to tell the desk clerk and make fresh if it didn't seem like it was. :)

If we are ever in Portage again, we will definitely go back to the Super 8!

4 of 5  won Pride of Super 8 award and deserves it, A TripAdvisor Member, Iowa, June 25, 2008

We stayed at the Portage, Wisconsin Super 8 at 3000 New Pinery Road, 53901. This property, we discovered, is a Pride of Super 8 award winner so it is more like Country Inn & Suites or Fairfield Inn than Motel 6. We were impressed!

There are plenty of restaurants nearby (KFC, Taco Bell, Wendy's, McDonald's and just a short drive to a fantastic and affordable local Mexican restaurant called La Tolteca). The view from our room was of a gravel parking lot with a light industrial complex behind...but it was quiet.

There is a $1.50 in-room safe fee which you must decline at check-out (I wonder how many people forget to mention it and end up paying it?).

Location was good, easy access. The lobby had a PC for guests to use. Free wi-fi within the hotel.

Our room had a small refrigerator, shampoo, soap, firm but comfy beds and newspapers were for sale in the lobby. The desk had a work space with a light that caused a shadow, pen/note paper, and two very good tourism information magazines. The rainfall shower head was mounted a bit low on the wall. There were plenty of towels and our room was clean. Very clean. Impressively clean and tidy.

The included Expanded Hot Breakfast included waffles, toast, coffee/tea, 2% milk, OJ, apple juice, two cereals, instant oatmeal, a few pastries, fresh apples and fresh pears. The door to the public restroom opened directly to the food bar/breakfast area, which was a bit odd. Breakfast staffer and the front desk employees were always knowledgeable and friendly.

Threatening weather was in the area and the front desk let us know that should a tornado warning be issued, they would contact second floor guests for relocation to first-floor hallways, and first-floor guests would be instructed to occupy their bathrooms. Kudos to them for having a plan and being prepared to use it, while keeping guests informed!

The head housekeeper was featured on a big display in the lobby; she won a corporate trip to the national Super 8 convention for her efforts.

Based on this stay, we will book future Super 8 rooms that have received Pride recognition.

4 of 5  Great, low-cost stay near the Wisconsin Dells, A TripAdvisor Member, Chicago, August 31, 2007

Newer property which is clean, comfortable, and very reasonably priced. The is a great alternative to the high-priced inns right in the Dells. Portage is only a short 10-15 min drive from the attractions. This property is a very basic motel which offers a family a clean, quite night's sleep at a low price. Note that there is no pool or resteraunt in the motel, but they do offer a free coffee and muffin breakfast,.

4 of 5  Highly recommend!, A TripAdvisor Member, Indiana, July 16, 2007

We stayed here 5 nights and thought it was a great and very reasonable. The staff at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast they offered included waffles, and these were actually good! Unusual for an economy hotel breakfast. Our room was very clean, comfortable and included a coffe maker and small fridge. Overall for the price we paid for the room it was better than expected. I'd recommend it to anyone. The one and only downside was no pool.
