Stayed at the Red Roof this weekend where we saw Roger Waters at the Ford Amphitheatre at the Tampa Fairgrounds. There are only three hotels near this venue, one being the Hard Rock, and that is terribly overpriced, with a casino containing only slot machines (no table games, minus a poker room). Deciding between the other two hotels, this and the Holiday Inn Express was a rather easy choice due to the $100 cheaper price tag at the Red Roof. Although the room was terribly small, it was nicely renovated and very clean. Another plus was the BP gas station and WingHouse restaurant which were both literally within a few steps from the Red Roof. Also, when taking in a concert you will also be pleased to know that everyone staying at the Red Roof can walk right across US301 to the concert venue. It looks like it is right there but it actually takes about 20 minutes to make your way to the ticket entrance. Overall, this was a good experience and I recommend this hotel to anyone attending a concert at the Amphitheatre. Great for concerts at the fairgrounds. It's a short DRIVE to Hard Rock Casino and a long WALK to the Ford Amp. There is a Ker's Wing House and gas station in the "parking lot", so just "camp" out for the show. Has a tint of truck stop feel to it, but it felt safe.

We reserved three rooms for the Eric Clapton concert. First, if you are staying here for a concert, it is bearable ...if you are only sleeping here. There are NO frills. No pool, no shampoo, no hair dryer. no coffee (But I guess that is the way they keep costs so low). Our first room had vomit in the toilet and the toilet wouldn't flush!! Gross! We immediately changed to another room. All of the rooms had a musty smell. The Bedspreads had some obvious stains and burn marks (in all three of our rooms). The front desk help were less than friendly and had zero customer service skills. Check in was easy and our room change was handled effortlessly, just no emotion or customer service skills at all. (from any of the three people we met) Keep in mind we are all low maintanence and never complain. You can walk to the concert theater area if you are in good health. This was nice. We cleaned our room with some clorox spray and febreeze before the concert and this cleared the smell. (thank goodness for Target near by). The beds were comfortable and we were not bothered by noise during the night. I would stay here again if the two hotels next door were booked up. I would just come with my own linens and a bottle of clorox spray and febreeze.
