2 of 5  Noisiest Hotel Ever, A TripAdvisor Member, british columbia, canada, July 16, 2008

We just got back from this hotel, after needing a place to stay before a very early flight. The actual hotel seems a bit tired looking but is certainly fine and the pool was large and ell been in our room. We tried to drown the noise out with the airconditioner but every time it kicked on, it was so loud we had seemed clean enough. The room was standard, not posh but not terrible either. BUT, I have never stayed in a noisier place in my life. The trucks on the highway may as wto eventually turn off the power and then were bothered by both the heat and the noise! Terrible! Next time I'll sleep at the airport.

5 of 5  Efficient staff, enjoyable stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Letchworth, United Kingdom, May 6, 2008

Myself and my partner have just returned home after a 3 night stay at HI Pointe Claire.

The staff were polite and friendly and welcomed me as a Platinum member and was rewarded with an upgraded room, something that rarely happens in europe.

The room was large, with two queen beds. The room was on the 6th floor and on the quiet side away from the Highway. All the usual amenities including a fridge, coffee maker, bathrobes and clock radio. Bathroom satisfactory but ok.

Made use of the small gym, and swimming pool/whirlpool, all maintained well. Breakfast excellent with a wide choice, either ordering from the menu or full buffet with chef on hand. Ate in Rickards Bar one evening, food tasty and staff efficient. Room service on first night, food arrived within 10 minutes piping hot and served with a smile

Great stay, we will definately stay again and felt that the staff really did care about their guests.

5 of 5  Great Hotel and Value, A TripAdvisor Member, Halifax, N.S., July 6, 2004

Was very surprised with the hotel and the size of the rooms. Montreal is about a 20 minute car ride on highway 40. Hotel had easy access from highway.

Room was a king bed with a sofa and desk, very large and clean room. My wife and I were very pleased with the hotel and the value we recieved.

5 of 5  Excellent, A TripAdvisor Member, Victoria, BC, September 6, 2003

Excellent. I'm 18 years old, and this was my first trip away from home on my way to school in Quebec. Westjet had lost all my bags, and I rolled in here tired and scared, but the staff was excellent. They helped me in every way possible, and the next morning I was on my way.

I would stay here again. No question.

Take care.

4 of 5  Comfortable Night's Stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Newfoundland, Canada, August 27, 2006

We spent one night at the Holiday Inn Pointe-Claire in Montreal as we waited for a connecting flight to our final destination the following morning.

The hotel certainly met our expectations. Our room was spacious, very clean, and was nicely decorated. The staff at the front desk were polite and gracious. We had no problem arranging for the free airport shuttle the next morning.

Although this hotel is termed an airport hotel, it is a good 10 minute drive from the airport. This was actually one of the reasons I booked the hotel, as I thought it would be quieter and was in a neighbourhood with several restaurants and stores. However, our flight was over three hours late arriving in Montreal; by the time we arrived, the hotel shuttle was no longer running (it stops at 11:30 pm) and we had to get a cab to the hotel which cost about $20. Therefore, I would recommend this hotel for an overnight in Montreal if you are arriving late afternoon/early evening and can avail of the free shuttle and sevices in the area. Otherwise, I would stay closer to the airport.

4 of 5  Can't go wrong here, A TripAdvisor Member, Spain, January 9, 2005

If you want a decent, comfortable and convenient stay near the Montreal airport then look no further; this was a great place to spend the night for the $100 Canadian. Allow me to break it down for you:

Pluses:

- Free shuttle from the airport. A taxi ride will cost you $18. (I know this because we were very tired from our trip and didn’t want to mess around so we sprung for the taxi. We took the shuttle on the way back though, and it was free, so the taxi decision cost us a 20 not to mess around…keep that in mind).

- Lobby was clean and very presentable (hey if you are looking for international design awards you should be looking at $400 a night hotels).

- Staff was pleasant, efficient and very friendly. They didn’t snub us or talk our ears off either, just the right mix of pleasant chit chat (they take the cue from you I think, if you’re tired they’ll leave you alone, if you’re in a talking mood they’ll oblige). The doorman was particularly nice and helpful. Post-stay I was quickly faxed a new receipt on request and my wife left her glasses in our room which were promptly mailed on to our next hotel free of charge. I have absolutely no complaints about anyone here at all levels we encountered.

- We were assigned Room 1122 which was very large, clean, well appointed, and completely silent. A big surprise actually (I don’t know why I expected worse maybe it’s the image “airport hotel” conjures up). Pillows were large and comfortable as was the bed. Bathroom floors are heated and the shower pressure is divine and offered immediate hot water. If all rooms in this hotel (remember I only stayed in this one) are of the same quality and noise-proof-ness, you should have no problems getting a good night’s rest.

- There is a big newish shopping mall across the street, well actually it’s more like across a highway, it’s a four lane and very busy. It’ll cost you a fiver to get a taxi from the hotel to the mall and I do recommend doing that in winter if the weather is bad, or the roads are slippery. In summer it’s possible to be adventurous and take the walk. The staff will tell you how to get there if you ask (see above). It has all the upper end chain stores, restaurants and a pharmacy. I think they have cinemas too, but don’t hold me to that.

Minuses:

- Honestly the only minus I could find with this hotel was the small, slightly cheapish looking bathroom. Re-do the bathroom and all will be perfect (I suggest marble-ish tiles and a new marble-ish countertop). It was clean though, and admittedly this minus is being somewhat picky, but this is a review after all.

Bottom Line: Look, I’d rather spend a hundred bucks and stay in this type of hotel any day than spend seventy bucks and get a dirty, smokey, noisy room with cranky staff. That can and does happen believe me, so stay here instead. Hopefully they’ll keep up this level of comfort and service. If you are overnighting in Montreal and want to be near the airport; it’s a more than adequate hotel for this purpose.

4 of 5  Great hotel, rooms, service. Restaurant was expencive, A TripAdvisor Member, August 16, 2003

I stayed at this hotel for 2 days on points, so all I had to pay was the room taxes.

The rooms were cleaned and restocked 2 times daily and the maids were at service whenever you needed them. The restaurant was very expencive and the food quality wasn't as good as you would expect. The room service menu did not have a lot of choices for food. Lobby staff were very nice and always helpful. The view from the room was great. I would stay here again for sure another time. This hotel is great for pleasure and business travelers.

3 of 5  Not a Bad Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Mt. Arlington, NJ, July 29, 2008

We stayed here for 3 nights for wedding as well as some sightseeing while we were in Montreal. The hotel is dated, however, the front desk accomodated our request for a top floor room and in the back of the hotel, away from the highway.

The front desk was very helpful in recommending restaurants and shops. The breakfast buffet was ok.

3 of 5  OK hotel, good location, A TripAdvisor Member, Lincoln Park, September 30, 2007

I stay here at this hotel for work. It is not my personal choice, just one the company has picked for my overnight stays.

Most of the rooms are very noisy. You are next to the highway, so be sure to ask for a quiet room when you check in...otherwise you may be up listening to cars pass by. The rooms are adequate, but really nothing special.

It is a good location across from a mall, although you have to cross the highway via an overpass to get there. They do have an airport shuttle which is nice.

3 of 5  What you see is what you get!, A TripAdvisor Member, Surrey, UK, September 30, 2007

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in September 2007 to attend a friends wedding at a nearby Golf Club. They had negotiated what I thought to be a very good deal of $125 CDN per night. The room was very large, with 2 double beds and a large bathroom. We found the staff to be very friendly, the breakfast better than average, with freshly cooked eggs, bacon etc. Basically it was what you would expect from a Holiday Inn. Very comfortable. Would stay again if needed to.

3 of 5  Very average, A TripAdvisor Member, Ottawa, Ontario, May 7, 2007

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Pointe-Claire for one night in May 2007. We booked it for its proximity to the event we were attending in Montreal's West Island area. The Quality Suites across the street, where we've stayed before, was fully booked.

The lobby of the Holiday Inn was nice, and the staff was fast and friendly. We didn't have any problems at all, so I don't have any comment on how good they are at dealing with adverse situations.

We stayed in a room on the fifth floor. The room was very dated. The bathroom is in dire need of a renovation, with the porcelain in the sink having been stained by hard water and the tub and tile just looking too old for comfort. It was clean, so I don't have any complaint other than the aesthetics. The water pressure in the shower could peel paint, which I kinda like.

But in the room itself, the carpeting was also very old and really, really needs to be replaced. I'm by no means a clean freak and these things don't gross me out, but that carpet looked at least 20 years old, and no carpet should be allowed to live that long.

We didn't try room service or the hotel restaurant.

We paid $132 CDN + tax for the room. If I recall correctly, the newer, larger Quality Suites is around the same price. I would definitely recommend the Quality Suites over the Holiday Inn for comfort of accommodations.

3 of 5  A very mixed experience, A TripAdvisor Member, Wellington, New Zealand, August 21, 2005

I stayed in this hotel for an overnight stay upon arrival in Montreal from New Zealand. This hotel is further away from the airport than I had expected. The shuttle van took ages to arrive and did not stop at its designated space -- instead it raced on ahead to pick up an air crew and was about to take off again. I chased the van and got on. A not very reassuring first encounter. At check in, even though I'm a gold priority club member, the receptionist was far more interested in the air crew than in checking me in -- a very perfunctory welcome. I got to my room at 10 pm and immediately ordered room service because I hadn't eaten for most of the day -- a huge sigh from the other end of the phone. So: people wise they definitely need to shape up their act. On the bright side: a splendid, very clean room, underfloor heating in the bathroom (but the hairdryer was broken), very comfortable setting. The room service food arrived promptly and was still a hot, a rare bonus. A very mixed experience.

2 of 5  Highway noise... they aren't kidding!, A TripAdvisor Member, Toronto, Ontario, May 29, 2008

This is a very old property (I'm guessing 1960's?), Although it seems that much of the interior has been renovated, what has NOT been changed are the original patio doors onto the balcony. They were nowhere near as soundproof as modern windows to begin with, and they don't even begin to seal anymore. This hotel is a tennis-ball throw away from a VERY busy Highway 40, and the traffic noise on the highway side is very intrusive almost 24 hours a day. I don't doubt that if I made a phone call, my call recipient would hear traffic in the background. I absolutely do not recommend a highway-side room, and from what I'm reading here, the other side isn't much better. I suggest that you find a newer hotel to stay in, there are plenty of others in the area.

2 of 5  noisy, A TripAdvisor Member, USA, July 19, 2007

I stayed two nights at the hotel. While the hotel rooms are good, with free internet access, my room face the highway, which made it really noisy. I woke up both nights in the early morning because of the traffic. so, if you stay there, you may want to request a room not facing the highway. The AC is powerful, but also extremly loud. The resteraunt in the hotel is tetrrible and very expensive, so don't eat there. I did not normally stay in holiday inn before, but I found that their bed is nice with very good pillows.

2 of 5  An incredible amount of freeway noise in the rooms, A TripAdvisor Member, Washington, May 22, 2007

Did not sleep for the two nights I stayed here. The hotel is right next to a busy freeway on one side which is fed by a large busy main arterial sidestreet on another side. I had heard of the road noise problem so asked for a room on the Executive Level 14th floor bordering on the back parking lot away from the side of the freeway. Well, this did not help at all. I think the hotel must have very cheap windows in their rooms because the noise from all the cars on Autoroute 40 and Blvd Ste-Jean was incredibly loud to the point that my wife and I had very little sleep for two days. I travel frequently almost every month and never have stayed in a hotel before with this amount of road noise coming into the room. After the first night, I looked at another room but it was equally noisey.

Otherwise, the hotel is fine. The service and food were good and the room clean and spacious. However, I would never stay here again or recommend it to any one else because of the noise.

1 of 5  Ugly room, A TripAdvisor Member, Ontario, Canada, July 26, 2008

i just stayed at this hotel and i hated it. the rooms were too small, the bathroom was small. some good things were nice staff clean room big lobby. overall i hated this hotel.

1 of 5  Noise + insects in the room ...., A TripAdvisor Member, amsterdam, July 3, 2008

I just needed a hotel not too far from the airport and got a deal with priceline.

Check in was already a mess, the clerk had to go from one computer to another, and made me go left/right all the time ;-(

I knew about the noise, and asked for a room in the back. I was given a room in front. The noise indeed woke me up early.

But the worse is when I stepped on an insect in the morning !

It was right there, next to the desk, and I found a second one crawling 3 minutes later. GROSS.

I complained at the desk on my way out, no apology, just a 'oh yeah, they probably came through the window'.

Save yourself trouble and go somewhere else, even if priceline price is good....

1 of 5  Do Not stay here, A TripAdvisor Member, Tulsa, August 26, 2006

We booked this room for one night, wanting to stay near the airport for an early flight the next day. I was a little put off by the outside appearance of the hotel and so after my husband checked in we went upstairs to look at the room.before taking in our luggage. As we entered the hotel from the back entrance, there was a huge 3-4 foot stain on the carpet. The lighting was poor and the hotel had a dirty and rundown appearance. The room had been cleaned, but then someone had been back in it and sat on the bed , propped up against one of the pillows, deposited trash in the trash can and used the bathroom because there was a wet towel hanging over the curtain rod. The counter in the bathroom was chipped badly at the edges This may have been a 3 star hotel in its prime, today it is not. I doubt that it meets even one star standards. We did not try to change rooms because I was totally "creeped " out and there was no way I could have stayed there.

We immediately began looking for another room. We ended up staying at the Quality suites , a new hotel for us and a very pleasant surprise. We then cancelled our room and told the management why. AAA has this listed as a 3 star hotel. I have contacted them. This hotel does NOT meet their standards. We have also contacted the chain.
