STAY AWAY FROM THE ELEVATORS | Read all reviews
During a recent trip for a marathon, we stayed at the Doubletree, Rocky Point. After a brief dinner at Landry's (yummy), we retired to our room for an early evening. We were placed in a room which was right next to the elevator shaft. I was not too concerned having stayed in similar rooms previously and typically there is a ton of insulation to reduce the sound. This Doubletree has NO INSULATION and not only did we here the Whoosh Whoosh of the elevator the entire night but we were also party to conversations of those on the elevator. What a treat. I think collectively we got about 3 hours of sleep. I am scarred for life and will not seek out Doubletree again.

I'm a bride that blocked out rooms at the Doubletree for my visiting guests. This was a perfect location. About a 5-10 minute drive from the airport, with free shuttle service. The shuttle also took guests anywhere they wanted to go within a 5 mile radius, perfect for guests that didn't rent a car. Guests also took the shuttle to my wedding which was about 2 minutes away... and didn't have to worry about driving home after a few cocktails. Wonderful heated pool in a secluded area near the water. Hammocks all over in the back. Free WARM chocolate chip cookies upon check in. There is a restaurant/bar in the hotel, but prices were a little high. $7 for 2 bagels in the morning. Bar is open until midnight. Overall a great location, wonderful staff, and beautiful rooms. Everyone was very happy with their stay. Husband and I spent 8 nights here, as he was having back surgery at LSI (which is just down the street). The 2 room suite was very spacious and clean. Since they’ve recently remodeled, everything was in excellent condition. Most all of the staff were VERY friendly and helpful. After my husband’s surgery we needed ice packs frozen. The front desk was happy to do this for us, and we would just go down and exchange the ice packs as needed. The only minor thing we noticed was that a couple of the restaurant wait staff were not the most friendly. Sometimes we had to ask for something twice before getting it. However, all of our needs were met each morning and the breakfast food was terrific. The pool area and grounds were very clean and well kept. Also, the refrigerator and microwave in the room came in very handy for this lengthy stay. We used the shuttle service a couple of times. They will only take you within a 3 miles radius, but that allows you to get most anything you might need/want. It was a real plus to not have to rent a car. Overall - - this is a A+++ property and I would highly recommend it for your stay!! Went to Tampa for a quick business trip and chose this hotel based on the positive reviews from others. I was not disapointed. Staff was very helpful when I called to request the shuttle from the airport. Shuttle came and driver was very courteous and friendly. Front desk staff were very nice and seemed to be happy I was there. When the front desk staff is happy it really goes a long way in making a weary traveler feel welcome. I really liked the size of the rooms and the bed was very comfortable. Flat screen TVs were a nice touch as well. I found my short stay to be very pleasant and exceeded my expectations. Only 2 downsides. They charge for Internet access. I wasn't able to get the Ethernet to work in the room but wireless worked. Wireless was slower than it needed to be. They'll want to upgrade that pretty soon. Other than that my stay was great. My husband and I stayed at this hotel Aug 7, 08 through Aug 10. The overall experience here was terrific!! We would love to come back and stay here again and we would also past the word on to family and friends. Service was great and the complimentary cookies were so good. The bed was so comfortable my husband and I woke up late every morning. If your looking for a great place to eat we reccomend Bahama Breeze which is located to the left of your hotel. The food and service is great there too. We had a great time here and we hope you do too. Have stayed here every year for the last 5 years and when I think it cannot get any better they do something else to make my stay better then before. GM-Mike Rose-personally accommodated our very early check-in. The upgraded Orlando Suite was spacious and perfect. Both lunch and breakfast at the Galerie were delicious and served by a very friendly staff. The waterfront pool area is a great place to watch dolphins and stingrays splash through the canal. For a property being so conveniently located to a major airport you get the feel of a peaceful resort. Would highly recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to stay again if traveling back to the Tampa area. p.s. Can't forget the delicious warm chocolate chip cookies! I was moved here by HHonors after leaving the Westshore Embassy-see my other review. This property is in much better shape for less money and they have completed a recent renovation as well. More bang for the buck. The rooms are huge and well appointed for work or leisure. Great bay view of the sunset. Great location if you have access to a car to get around the area. The staff was attentive and eager to help. I had breakfast both mornings in the restaurant. The first day was iffy and mentioned it to the restaurant manager in passing on the second morning and complimented him on the improvement, he explained it he was off the day before and apologized for the inconsistency. Will use this hotel first for any future stays in the area. Hats off to a job will done! Can't praise this hotel enough, warm cookies on arrival, huge suite with gorgeous view of gulf inlets. Great pool area and the hotel restaurant serves good food, try the cajun prawn skewers. Typical Hilton pillows, who can forget them? All the staff extremely friendly and chatty, including the courtesy coach drivers. This is how all hotels should be run. We were only here for 1 night but had a great stay (it was just hubby and I)! We got a good rate thru hotwire and really can't say anything negative about this hotel. We arrived at the airport very early (9:30 am) and called for the free shuttle. They said they would be there within 15 minutes but it was more like 45. Our room wasn't ready so we had breakfast in the restaurant (which was great) and checked again. They said it would be another hour so we changed in the lobby restrooms and relaxed by the pool. The pool area was very tropical looking and very clean. Our room was ready about 12:30 pm and was very clean and spacious. The shuttle took us to the mall in the evening and picked us up within 15 minutes of calling them to let them know we were ready to come back to the hotel. We had a great stay. All the staff were very nice and the grounds and room were very clean and well kept. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!!! The rooms in this motel are outstanding, very large and well appointed. Our room on the seventh floor had a refrigerator, sink and microwave. Very large living area separated from the bedroom by a folding door. The bedroom was also very large, with a king bed and very comfortable matress and pillows. Also, many rooms have a nice view of the bay. The pool area is small but well kept. We did not use the restaurant. We treated ourselves to Bern's Steakhouse (wonderful) about seven miles away near downtown. We saved the cookies and made some excellent in-room coffee and tea for a quick breakfast. (We were still stuffed from Bern's). There is a lot of construction on SR 60 near the airport, so pay attention if you are entering from I-4. Keep left through the construction. My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night (January 7, 2006) after attending the Bucs/Skins game in Tampa. We won a Priceline bid of $85 for the hotel and we were just happy that we had a place to stay after the game. We usually stay in 4 or 5 star hotels, and seeing as this was a 3 star hotel we weren't expecting much. However, we really enjoyed our short stay. Parking was a breeze, check-in was quick and efficient and our room far suprassed our needs. The hotel is an all-suite facility and we had more than enough space to move around in. Everything was clean and we felt very comfortable in our surroundings. The bed was extremely comfortable and we both slept soundly. The clock on the nightstand was illuminted in a way that made it very easy to tell the time, however, it wasn't an irritating neon glow that would normally bother me while trying to sleep away from home. The blinds really kept the morning sun out of our room. When we did open the blinds in the morning, we were treated to an excellent view of the water and the water fowl inhabiting the area. Although the pool was drained and going through a rehab, we didn't mind because the temperature was somewhere in the 40s. We left our breakfast room service order on the door after we checked in (around 10:30 pm) and our breakfast arrived hot and tasty at the requested hour the following morning. We enjoyed our very short stay and will certainly consider staying here again in the future. The room had ample space and is in a great location for anyone who is visiting the Tampa area. We hope to stay there in the future when we go to see the Red Sox beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. :) We stayed at the Doubletree Suites one night for a pre-cruise. At check-in I showed my Hilton Honors card and we got upgraded to a room with a bay view. Our room was awesome and very large - we even had a TV in the bathroom! Certain areas were a little worn, but what made this hotel was the staff. We used the free shuttle from the airport and also went to the shopping center. When our driver learned we didn't get the Pepsi we wanted, he drove us to a supermarket. Our driver later took a group of 6 of us to the Bahama Breeze for dinner and picked us up when we called. The hotel also arranged for 4 of us to go the port the next day (for a fee). The hotel staff really went out of their way for us and we would highly recommend to anyone. It was well worth the $$. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. This hotel was very clean and roomy with a medium sized fridge. The breakfast buffet was good. We had a first floor suite with a patio overlooking the pool and the bay. The hotel was only 5 minutes from the airport and centrally located between Clearwater and St. Petersburg. They had jet ski rental onsite and many nice restraunts and nitelife nearby. Got a great rate $109/night for bayview room by booking directly on the hotel website and choosing Advance Purchase. Cleanliness is very important to me and I always bring along my disinfectant wipes to clean remotes, switches, doorhandles, but surprisingly, this room was very clean to start with. I will agree with the other reviewer that the front desk staff was not very friendly. The view from our room was great - we saw dolphins and stingrays. The room was spacious, however, the doors separating the bedroom from the living area were thin folding doors and if someone was watching tv in the other room you could not block the sound. We requested a rollaway bed and believe it or not, it was extremely comfortable and even better than the pull out sofa's mattress. The main bed was the best - lots of pillows and very comfy! After our second night, we decided to stay one more night and asked at the desk if the rate would be the same - I was told no, that the rate would go up to $129 since the rate we booked was on the website only. They suggested that I go to the website and try to book it there. While I thought this was unusual, I tried and the rate was $139. I then talked to the manager and was told the same thing. I found a rate for a hotel nearby at a much lower rate and told the manager that we would hate to move, but would do so if he couldn't match the $109 we had the first two nights. He then complied and we were all happy - I just wish they wouldn't have given us the runaround to begin with. Very disappointed that there was no complimentary breakfast - and the restaurant on site is quite pricey. Otherwise, great stay! We just got back, sad to say. We stayed here for 4 days and the hotel was everything I wanted. We felt very safe here. It was very clean, the rooms were big, great location, but the staff was the nicest ever, from the minute you enter the lobby, to the maids and the restaurant , they couldn't have been more helpful. The warm cookies were great too. The pool was amazing, clean and we did see dolphins swim by when we were in the pool. I definately found my new hotel when I come down to visit my family. From the time I arrived until the time I checked out, the staff was friendly and welcoming. A beautiful property with clean and very spacious rooms. The hotel bar was great! The evening cook and bartender, Eduardo were great. The best fitness center and business center I have seen in a hotel. Great location, within minutes from night life, the beach, and shopping malls. We just returned from a one night stay at the Doubletree Guest Suites. It was great being welcomed by the courteous front desk staff after the hustle and bustle of stressful rush hour traffic and construction. We were greeted with delicious chocolate cookies, they were not stale or cold like many other Doubletree hotels. The room was spacious and elegant, much higher than our expectations of Doubletree hotels. There is a kitchenette, with a large desk, couch and TV in one room. The other room had two beds, an armoire with TV, table (which was great for getting ready to go out), and bathroom. This worked out well because we could watch two different things on TV. The bathroom had spacious counter space, and was very clean. The beds were extremely comfortable. The pool area was average, but had a lovely view with hammocks and all. The fitness center was small but very well-equipped. A few restaurants, but we did not visit them, although they looked very good. The only minor complaint about this hotel is the very bright and colorful decor. This was only in the lobby and exterior. Other than this, it was a great stay. It was a little hard to find due to rain, rush hour traffic and road construction but the front desk staff was fantastic in assisting us. When we arrived, the staff answered more questions about getting back to the airport and the check in was fast and pleasant. The room was the typical roomy, nicely appointed Guest Suites room we've had in the past. Nice view of the bay (sunrise was awesome). Bed was comfy, TV sets were nice flat panels, bathroom was roomy and the terry towels were great! The day of check out (a Friday morning), we had no problems with traffic and returning the rental car and getting to the airport. I would stay here again without question. Hotel is in a very convenient location - easily accessible to Tampa attractions yet only 10 minutes to the airport (but you do not feel like you are staying at an airport property). Suites are large, very clean - two large big screens, large living room area. Good service, plenty of complimentary parking, and hotel is right on the water (not ocean for swimming, but great views of the bay). Good deal! Stayed for buisness, brought wife and made a long weekend out of it. The elevators STILL had issues, one kept breaking down. The rooms were clean, every room has it's own AC, which was pretty loud. The pool is small for a hotel this size but it was not too crowded at any time. The pool area overlooks a bay ... we saw a group of dolphins swim by. Free towels which were all over the place on the weekend. The rooms have nice furniture, a very soft bed, but shows some wear and tear. The bathroom tub is rusted, the towel rack was loose. The wifi should be free; it was not very strong and pretty slow compared to other hotels. There are 4 good places to eat pretty close by, Clearwater Beach is 20 minutes west, and the airport is close by. All in all a good value, I wold stay there again. my two boys and myself stayed 3/24-3/29/08 ..went down for baseball spring training games ...great location to start from ..the hotel is quiet great for families ..the pool was clean and well maintained.... connie at the front desk was great ..i would stay again when i come to the tampa area ...great choco cookies A little confusion about our reservation, but the Mgr. fixed it immediately. Were on 5th Floor. Suite was rennovated and very nice. Virtually all rooms have a water view. Inside rooms have the better view. Hotel was clean throughout. Ask for a Bayview room and Dream package to include breakfast. Food services were very good. Breakfast buffet is done very well. Drinks a little pricey but that seemed to be everywhere in Tampa. very nice Pool area. Maybe that is why the bar was so quiet. Have to travel a bit in Tampa traffic to get to attractions but would definitely stay here again. We spent Christmas night at the Doubletree in Tampa Bay. The hotel was lovely. Our room was clean. Both the bed and pull out couch were very comfortable. You could tell there were some recent upgrades to the room, but the hallway had a slightly musty smell. We had a nice breakfast in their restaurant. Our biggest problem was getting back into the room after breakfast. Our keys stopped working. We went back down to the lobby and had the keys reprogrammed. They still didn't work. This happened 2 more times before engineering met us at the room and told us of a myriad of problems that could have caused the defective keys. Nevertheless, it was frustrating as all we wanted to do was check out after breakfast. While waiting to get into our room, our 10-year old learned the words to "Hotel California" - you can check out but you can never leave. This delayed starting our day by about 30 minutes. Even with our issues, the staff was friendly and curteous. I recently stayed at the Doubletree Suites Hotel in Tampa Florida for 1 night on business. The hotel is nicely maintained although still undergoing some renovations in the gym area. The rooms are large and very comfortable, they look as if they had been recently renovated. There is a large living room and bedroom. The room I had was a patio room and it was nice to be right by the water. The bed is very comfortable and the climate control worked well. Once the gym has been updated it will be very nice, they already have a nice pool, whirlpool and sauna. I would definitely return to this hotel next time I am in Tampa. The DoubleTree Guest Suites Tampa Bay is an all-suites hotel that despite having some age on it has undergone a nice renovation. It is located on West Highway 60 near the airport. Unfortunately, not much else is located near the property. Each suite is spacious, very clean and having undergone a recent, very nice renovation. The only complaint I had was the smallish bathrooms that despite the renovation were not that great. Overall, a nice hotel for a decent price. The location, while being away from the hustle and bustle of Tampa traffic, is good if you want to get away and rest. That being said, there is not much around this area so expect to travel 10-15 minutes say if you need to go to a Walgreen's, etc. As previous reviewers have mentioned, The Castaway restaurant located across W. 60 from the DoubleTree is a nice place to eat. The views are spectacular, the food is pricey but ok. One evening I ordered room service from the downstairs restaurant The Galerie and it was surprisingly good. It arrived fast, the server was efficient and it was much better than some. I cannot comment on the breakfast as I never partook. I didn't have many dealings with the staff but they seemed efficient and friendly. Overall this DoubleTree is in a great location, with a recent renovation, clean with nice views. For the price not a bad value. I would stay there again Nice hotel with spacious rooms right on Tampa Bay. About a 25 minute drive to Clearwater Beach. Breakfast buffet is ok, but nothing great. Try to get it with your room rate, individual prices for the buffet are too high for the quality of food. Pool is nice, and right on the bay. Jet ski rental right outside by the parking lot. The Castaway restaurant is across the street, pricey but awesome tables with views of the bay at sunset. Tampa Bay Doubletree Suites Rocky Point Dr, Tampa July 16,2007 My husband and I wanted to get away for a few days. The Doubletree Suites on Rocky Pt. Dr. was great!. The hotel is just completing renovations. We stayed in room 731 (highest floor) and had a brand new 2 room suite (all rooms are suites) with incredible views. We looked out over the water and the pool area below. We watched dolphins and tropical birds from our livingroom and bedroom areas. Entire suite had new berber style carpets, fresh paint, new curtains, livingroom furniture and dream beds and linens (you will wish you could take the bed home!) There was a small refrigerator, sink and micorwave set on a marble top cabinet in the livingroom area. There was a large work station with special comfort work chair and two tvs. The room was done in browns and creams with touches of red. Bathroom was very clean .Tub area had new tiles but tub looked a little worn. Great Neutrogena products including face cleaner and sun screen. Big fluffy towels. Pool feels very secluded and is surrounded by bay views. You can lay in hammocks and watch dolphins jump. Pool water was perfect temp and pool seemed very clean and well maintained. You are very close to Tampa Airport but you never hear planes from hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Tampa Bay! Plenty of parking. Our room wasn't ready upon our check-in and were asked to come back. The desk clerk upon our return couldn't find our reservation, and came off as being rude. But upon getting our warm cookies(yum) we made our way up to our room and were very pleased. The room was very clean and spacious. Kitchen area with a sink, fridge and microwave. Living room area with pull out sofa and chair, large t.v. and desk. The beds were in an area separate from the living/kitchen area giving it a bedroom feel. Large mirrored vanity area and a large clean bathroom with a small b&w t.v.. Could have used a few more towels. Room was decorated very tastefully. We had a beautiful view of the pool area and bay,and within minutes of being in our room saw dolphins.A mama and baby dolphin swam up and down the canal very close to the hotel allowing for some great photos. The pool area was was beautifully landscaped(very tropical) and had ample supply of clean towels. The gym/spa area had a t.v. and view outside but some of the equipment wasn't working correctly and is in need of service. The laundry facilities were on the 7th floor which is being remodeled and is vacant( a little scary if going up by yourself at night). There is only 1 washer and 1 dryer,so expect to wait. We never recieved a wake-up call as requested(late for meeting). Were given printed out directions to to mall/restraunts.I will stay again and highly recommend. We were very pleased with the Double Tree Hotel. We stayed for the New Year and also to Watch the Seattle Seahawks play against the Tampa Bay Bucs (which they won-Go Hawks!). The rooms were roomy, clean and cozy. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets were clean. The pillows were a little too soft. The A/C seemed to have a mind of its own. They gym needs a serious upgrade (no free weights and the machines are from the 1920's). The pool was quiet and serene, the breakfast was delicious and the staff was pleasant. Would definately stay again. Highly Recommend this hotel. I only stayed in this hotel for one night. It was great. The living room was seperate from the bedroom. Which was nice because I had just had lasik eye surgery and I could close the door from my mom and sister (who accompanied me) so that I could rest, and they watched tv in the livingroom. We had 2 very comfortable beautiful double beds. Very nice sheets. It had a small round table that I ate my dinner. It was great. I would totally stay there again. As a business traveler who logs 100+ nights a yar I rate this hotel above average. Usual clean hotels expected with this hotel chain. Above average front desk service. Beautiful facilities (Lobby, Pool, Resturaunt.) Great views of the causeway. Excellent sunset. Would stay here again. We had a wonderful stay at the Doubletree Guest Suites in Tampa! The staff was very courteous and helpful in accomodating every request we had. Our room was very comfortable, quiet, and large. We had a king suite and were very happy with both the size of the bedroom and living room area. Nice view of the water. Quick drive to the airport. Nice linens and comfortable pillows. It would be nice to have solid doors between the two rooms, but we didn't have any other complaints. Loved our stay! The hotel was good for the price ($70/night on priceline). It's centrally located, and the most basic room - which is what we got on priceline - was a suite with mini-kitchen, dining room, living room, and enclosed bedroom and bath. It's slightly run down and could use some cleaning and redecorating but overall, I would recommend it. Nice big rooms. Small beach and a good restaurant on the opposite street. The location is pretty far from the downtown and there is no decent public transport. We stayed in Tampa for 2 nights at the Doubletree and enjoyed it. Our suite was spacious, with a small wetbar/sitting area on one side of the living room. Bedroom and bath was behind two double shuttered doors. The bed was very comfortable and there were plenty of pillows. Some of the furniture in the sitting area was old and nicked up and the refrigerator never got really cold. The hotel's restaurant closes at 10, so we went to the Radisson across Rocky Point Drive and ate. There is also a Bahama Breeze nearby, and several places to eat toward Clearwater. We stayed at this hotel for three nights in early July, 2005 on our Florida vacation. We paid $105 a night, including tax, which we thought was a bit pricey. Our room was above average in size and quality, and appeared to be newly remodeled. It was comfortable, clean and spacious, with a great shower and plenty of closet and drawer space. It included a kitchen and eating area with a table and chairs (which we never used). The view from our room window of Tampa Bay and the pool below was wonderful. I'm guessing that due to the angle of the hotel, most rooms had a view of the bay. We had two complaints about our room. The bifold doors between the bedroom and the living room were shuttered (allowing sound to pass between rooms) and did not close properly. Also, some of the hooks holding the upscale drapes in the bedroom were the wrong size allowing the drapes to sag at the top and allow light to come through. This was a shame for such an otherwise elegant room. We ate breakfast at the hotel restaurant on the morning of July 4th, and that was a big mistake. The restaurant was understaffed and disorganized. This resulted in long waits for seating, beverages, etc. The breakfast buffet was mediocre and a bit overpriced. (We paid for our breakfast, unlike some guests in earlier reviews who got it free.) Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would highly recommend it to others. The room is spacious enough, bed was comfortable. I had a first floor suite, so I could walk out and was about 20 steps from the bay as well as the pool. One morning I saw what looked like a dolphin fin poke out of the bay water, maybe it was floating trash...it was early. Things that could be better: Lighting - it could use a few more lights it was kinda dark. Shower drain - the water pressure was great, but the drain couldn't keep up. Breakfast was included in the price and was outstanding. Nice outdoor pool area and they have jetski's to rent. Good location. Five minutes from the airport but it feels like five hours away. BIG room. Took the family on a business trip and this was perfect for all the bodies. We have just returned from a stay at the Doubletree Suites in Tampa Bay Florida. The stay was overall a good stay. The cookies at check in are delicious. The hotel suite was spacious and very clean. The hotel personnel were friendly and very accommodating to our needs. The exercise room was clean and well taken care of . The only problem during our stay was that the air conditioning was not keeping our room cool and they graciously moved us to another suite. Also not the hotel's fault someone knocked on our door stating that they had mail. This was very suspicious to us and I did not answer the door as my husband had just left to go to the exercise room. I notified the hotel of this and they said it was very unusual for this to happen and said they would alert security about this issue and even stated that I could speak to the manager about this. Although it did not make us feel unsafe because the hotel staff made sure that we were comfortable and were very accommodating about this issue. Overall when back in Tampa visiting relatives next year, I would not hesitate to stay at the Doubletree again. The service was lacking and the front desk was not very friendly or professional. The room was spacious and clean. The only drawback was the room location. It was right next to the ice machine, and the housekeeping person woke me up in the morning to check if we were still in the room. It was only 8 AM though, so im not sure why they did that. First off we booked through priceline which I suggest people be wary of...I had googled Doubletree Beach Resort to find the best price. Priceline came up on a site even though they don't actually book the beach resort. They sneakily are quoting you a price but it is actually for Guest Suites - 2 different hotels. You hit a button and then realize you have made a mistake but are committed for a price above the hotel quotes. The hotel was okay. Rooms were spacious but colours very dark and dreary and seemed moreso since you are unable to open windows. Beds are comfortable. Very clean. Nice area. Quiet and in a nice setting overlooking the bay. Service is very good and friendly. The pool is small and was crowded with kids. There were outdoor tables that never seemed to be wiped off - sticky and dirty all the time. The pool lounges and chairs are horrible - cheap hard plastic with no cushions - Come on Doubletree! How cheap! On the same note, why do you have to charge $4.75 for a bottle of water that the stores seem to make a profit on at $1.25? - Yes I am talking the same brand at Target. We have stayed in more reasonably priced hotels in Tampa area and been more satisfied. We had 6 rooms on a business trip for NINETEEN (yes, 19) nights. They gave us little - we asked for free internet (6X$10X19 is well over $1,100.) and they only gave us a small discount. We asked for a discount on breakfast - nada. We asked for free cookies - even that we were told is just for check-in but they usually gave them anyway. That said, it was clean, most of the shifts had helpful workers and nice too. Restaurant was better than most hotels. It was far from anything, but across the main road was a cute little beach and a few nice restaurants. We never used the shuttle so I can't comment. Do need to mention tat the internet was spotty at best in the free areas, and i did break down and get it for 2 nights, it was SLOOOOWWWWW. Business center was a bit better. But that, along with the gym, kept getting moved as they closed them both down - the gym for total renovations. hope they get better equipment, lighting and tv's for it. Clean nice rooms, great beds. not all views were great. i had to turn my head a bit to see water. All in all, if you don't care if you're in the middle of things, its a decent, good place, if you don't need a computer! I went to Tampa for 4 days in the sun at Xmas; unfortunately the sun decided not to show its face 'til my last day. My biggest mistake was not heeding the warning of another reviewer who said the place was basically far from civilization - but was that right! The hotel offers a shuttle to the two local malls (just a few minutes away) but other than that, you're somewhat stranded. To go downtown - $50 cab ride round trip! Another draw back: the pool faces northeast so it's not in the sun's view for very long (particularly in the winter). Rooms were spacious but unless you're on the ground floor, no patio (and no opening windows - another drawback in a warm climate, as far as I'm concerned). Two good restaurants within walking distance, however - Landry's and Rusty Pelican - which offered seafood in pretty settings on the water. Crabby Bill's - a Florida staple - is also across the street for more casual dining but facing west on the water for wonderful sunsets. Doubletree Suites is undergoing renovation and it shows, however, friendly staff always at the ready. I wanted an inexpensive getaway and their rates were cheap but in this case, I guess it's safe to say I got what I paid for. Nice sized suite. Clean. Good sheets. Good mattress, albeit a little too soft for us. Three TVs, including a little black and white one in the bathroom. Tiny bathtub. Heated outdoor pool (a rarity in Florida). 80s era decor. Not too noisy overall, but the whine from the nearby elevator kept my spouse up at night until she put her earplugs in, and kept me from getting back to sleep after using the bathroom in the morning. Two pizza flyers passed under our door in about a 15 minute period - I'm not used to hotels that allow soliciting. After we paid $240 for a room, they charged us $10 for Internet access, and would have charged us $5/bottle for water if we had drunk any. Internet worked fine at night, didn't work when I tried to reconnect in the morning. I told the front desk and they gave me a technical support number. After 10 minutes on hold and about 15 minutes of troubleshooting, we determined that the automated service giving my computer its connection information was giving it the wrong information (technical: the DHCP server kept giving my box an IP that was not on the correct subnet). I finally hung up - my time was worth more than the benefit of Internet access. To their credit, the hotel refunded the $10 with no questions asked. On the whole, we would have loved this hotel at $100/night. We disliked it at $240. I'm really conflicted with regard to the Doubletree Guest Suites Tampa Bay. I suppose what is giving rise to those mixed feelings is the wonderful view and serene pool area. Because of these two things, I'd consider going back. Check in was not overly friendly or attentive. Not what I've come to expect as an Hhonors upper tier member, or as a guest of any hotel, frankly. Arrived around 12:30 on a Friday and was told by the young lady (J) that, nope, nothing ready. It may have well been the case, but it was the 'Too bad, so sad, see ya', wouldn't wanna be ya' attitude that was so out of character for Hilton properties. No 'Can Do' attitude here as Doubletree professes. No biggie; we simply left and came back a couple of hours later. Other staff we encountered seemed friendly. While they've tried to update, I had a general 'ick' feeling when I was in the room. Maybe it was just more of a 'blah' feeling--I can't quite put my finger on it. Housekeeping seemed to have done a fine job in the room. But the fridge was positively archaic, as were the bi-fold style closet doors which separated the bedroom from the LR area. The big stain on the BR ceiling from the blowing (or the intake?) of the AC was more than obvious, and things like this are easy to take care of. Oh, yeah--the chocolate or BBQ sauce smeared throughout the in-room dining menu prompted us to head out for dinner instead. At least I'm praying it was chocolate or BBQ sauce... Having said all of this, the view was indeed beautiful, and the pool area was very relaxing with above par pool towels available and a fabulous ocean breeze. Basically, the beach minus the sand. As a gal who grew up in FL, I can live without the sand! This alone MIGHT make me tolerate the other things if I were given an offer I couldn't refuse. We paid $99 for the night with a AAA discount. I wouldn't pay anything higher, and suspect I'd have to find an even better deal to return.

This hotel leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to a Can Do attitude. Front desk staff was always blah when you spoke with them. They acted like you were always bothering them when you needed something. Room was OK. Furnishings were out of date. The only good thing going for them is location and free shuttle. But let me say this the free shuttle drivers the one that worked during the day was outright rude. Hotel is nice with spacious rooms. Internet service is promised, but no prices can be found. At most Hiltons (DoubleTree is a subsidiary) Internet Service is free. Here they want exhorbitant fees and they have no business center as an alternative. The staff has a rude & uncooperative attitude. We are not used to this sort of treatment and found it most unpleasant. We usually spend 15 to 20 nights a month on the road. I am asking my employer to no longer book us at the DoubleTree Guest Jail in Tampa. Recently returned from a 3 night business trip at this hotel. Staff were pleasant enough at check in. The hotel is directly Tampa Bay and has a great view. Upon check-in I gave my Hilton Rewards card but wasn't upgraded to the top floor because I was told "the airconditioners are too loud there". I stayed on the 6th floor instead and the airconditioner there was so loud that everytime the airconditioning fan came on, I had to turn up the sound on the tv!! And the airconditioner vent is right near the bed. If you have to have quiet sleeping you'd never make it. In the morning I asked to change rooms and was told they were all like that. At least the bed was comfortable. The rooms are big enough, but in dire need of refurbishing if they want to be competitive with other hotels. The "kitchen" table was some outdoor yard sale discard that was scratched, patched and discolored. The first night a colleague and I were the only two people in the dining room for dinner and STILL we had to wait for service and our meal, which was overcooked and bland. Several times during my stay I called the from desk for a message or to set a wake up call, and exactly 50% of the time no one answered - good thing I wasn't having an emergency. The first day I called the front desk at dinner time for someone to service my room. They sent a lady up to clean my room and all she did was make the bed and throw out the garbage in the pails! I had room service that evening and put my dishes outside my door when I was done. A full 24 hours later those dishes were still sitting outside the door and housekeeping had even been there to clean my room!! The entire time I was there a large commercial vaccuum stood out in the hallway. The last night of my stay I found FOUR bugs on my bed - looked like termites. The bathtub had a patched area on it and there is this OLD black and white tv on the counter. To turn the channel you have to rotate a knob like you were adjusting the volume. My last day there I got up and turned on the tv to listen to the news as I got dressed. 10 mins later the satelitte went out and never came back on. Being on Tampa Bay gives them the only good thing they have to offer Thankfully my client asked for feedback on this hotel and I asked not to go there anymore. This is my very first time posting a review in ANY travel website, but we just returned from this hotel and I had to post something. My boyfriend and I booked this hotel for an overnight stay in Tampa to visit friends. The picture on the website looked promising, was reminiscent of the Contemporary in Disney. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The room itself was....tremendously lacking. I was impressed with the size, and the seperate living/bedroom areas. However, the dining room table was absolutely filthy, with crumbs in the space between the top of the table and the sides and what looked like ketchup stains. The carpets looked very dirty. The TV in the bathroom (yes, there is a very small b/w tv by the toilet in the bathroom) did not receive picture - but also looked like it had not been cleaned in years. Not something you want to see in an appliance near a toilet. The gauzy lining of the drapes by the computer desk had what looked like to be a few old blood stains. I slept in the bed wondering when was the last time the mattress pad had been cleaned. The decor itself was very out-dated. I am not a very picky person at all, but I was grossed out to even touch the remotes. The high speed internet service was $6.95/day. I would have been happier at the Holiday Inn Express. Yuck!
