3 of 5  Quite pleasant, A TripAdvisor Member, Stevenage, October 25, 2004

Pleasant, some rooms nice otheres quite dull, poor reception service though, says its 24hrs and we got locked out for an hr along with 5 other guests at 11pm! The cleaner also come into our room on the day of our leave whilst we were getting dressed! Cheap enough but not the ideal place for a stay during a bussiness trip, wouldn't go again.

4 of 5  Cheap & Cheerful but a few niggles, A TripAdvisor Member, England, July 7, 2008

The Good:

The room was right on the top floor offering a relatively pleasent view if you look beyond the multi story car park etc...

Furnishings were good, king size double bed and clean decent bathroom. Modern decor and good service from the staff.

Food was of good quality and value.

The bad:

The room was quite hot and one would think opening the windows would deal with this - but replaces it with another problem - noise... planes to Luton fly directly overhead - not a good combo if you like sleep and being cool.

Car park - had to use the West Gate shopping centre and it costs £2.50 every time to get out - a little inconvenient.

Aside from this - its a nice budget hotel - if you can deal with the the problems - its well worth it!

3 of 5  Cheap & Cheerful, A TripAdvisor Member, Torrevieja, April 21, 2008

We stay here when visiting family & friends in UK as it is conveniently located (we live in Spain).

The hotel rooms are quite large and have king size beds. Clean & adequate. Ask for rooms overlooking the car park side which is quieter than the shopping mall side.

Staff have always proved friendly and reliable.

You can get half price and very good English breakfasts by going across the road to the Tesco megastore or British Home Store in the large shopping mall.

Good rail connections betwen here and London/Cambridge, and a large entertainment and restaurant centre a few minutes walk away.

Stevenage is not on the tourist map and never will be - but a good basic hotel for overnight stay if passing through or on business locally.

You get what you pay for - and we will return - only due to personal circumstances.

3 of 5  okay for the money, but ..., A TripAdvisor Member, Tavistock, United Kingdom, June 12, 2007

I stayed here as part of a Luton airport hotel and parking deal. it was the cheapest on offer, but it's worth spending the minimal amount more to go elsewhere. This isn't really anything to do with the hotel, but more the location. Srevenage just isn't where it's at!

My room was a good size, and the bathroom was fine. Although my room smelt rather musty, it was clean enough. The view over Tesco's roof was uninspiring, and the noise from Tescos ventilation system went on and off all night which meant that windows open was not a possibility. The bed was VERY hard, and the TV wasn't really tuned in. Staying on a Friday, the restaurant wasn't open: when asked, the receptionist (who was really not very welcoming) sent me across a roadbridge to the local leisure park where there is a selection of chain oulets: I ate in the Ask! which was okay if not great cuisine.

The drive next day to Luton took about 20 minutes, and the total package was reasonable (£79 for the room plus 15 nights parking). It's not great, but it's not as dire as some of the reviews say.

3 of 5  Good value, no thrills - close to town centre amenities!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Bristol, May 12, 2007

No surprises, very basic but fully equipped rooms, lifts to all floors, despite being close to town centre, rooms above 2nd floor not too bad for noise - pigeons can be a problem early morning.

Breakfast poor value better option local cafe/supermarket (24 hrs).

Car parking convenient in multi storey adjacent to hotel (small fee) can park next to hotel for unloading.

Ideal for local train station & good service to London or Cambridge.

Hot meals available 24 hrs in hotel - fair price.

Have always found reception staff helpful although dont expect any extras.

Does what it says on the tin for the price.

3 of 5  Very Basic, Very Cheap, A TripAdvisor Member, UK, April 15, 2007

Hotel is cheap but have stayed a few times and had no significant problems.

It is very basic but always clean. It also has a bar attached to the hotel but I have never been in it.

Overview:

Staff were OK.

Room size was OK.

Tiny TV with four channels.

TV/Coffee in room.

Room Internet access at a price.

Parking in the multi story next door (£2.40 overnight).

Pay extra for breakfast.

3 of 5  Value for money, if you can find the hotel!, A TripAdvisor Member, UK, February 8, 2007

OK, but very difficult to find with a car. Had a pleasent enough night. Arrived late and still had a hot meal. No complaints here.

3 of 5  Does what it says on the tin, A TripAdvisor Member, Birmingham, UK, December 30, 2004

The Ibis is a cheap hotel with the advantage that you get a kingsize bed, which seems to be exactly the same as its sister hotel chain Novotel. Any hotel providing kingsize beds gets bonus points as far as I am concerned.

The rooms are not massive but ok for a short stay and the bathroom has a very good shower over a small bath.

The reception service is the usual Accor indifference but the waitress in the breakfast area was bright, chirpy and pleasant. The breakfast itself is continental style and help yourself so anyone liking their fry-up will be disappointed but you can load your plate multiple times should you wish.

At less than £50 a night this is decent value for money.

Stayed at the weekend when prices only 30 quid, if your looking for a cheap clean room then definately worth it.

2 of 5  Poor management, A TripAdvisor Member, Leeds, May 28, 2007

Too many service failures and very disingenuous apologies from receptionist.

Misled on car parking facilities when checked by phone before booking.

Broadband connection utterly useless - wasted 2 hours and about £15 on trying to get connection using their service provider (Orange).

Totally ignored in restaurant for about 15 minutes, so we left and went elsewhere.

No customer complaints facility on Ibis website - hence this review.

Postcard left on pillow in room inviting nominations for 'excellent service'.

Generally I have found Ibis hotels in mainland Europe to be reliable,

if a little on the expensive side now. My experience at Stevenage was

well below standard and with little opportunity to seek redress from Ibis, it has damaged their brand in my eyes.

2 of 5  You get what you pay for (£29.95 a night)!, A TripAdvisor Member, Stevenage, June 9, 2006

Very centrally located for Stevenage town centre.

At £29.95 its a bargain but you do get what you pay for. Only some rooms have been refurbished and others are very tatty.

No car park of its own only use of the council multi-storey next door overnight.

But if you pay £29.95 then you can't complain about the hotel much!

1 of 5  Worst Hotel I have ever stayed in, A TripAdvisor Member, Stevenage, March 21, 2007

Dirty, Grotty and Grungy, i would rather sleep in the street. Horrible brown scratchy sheets. Never ever again.

1 of 5  Living Nightmare, A TripAdvisor Member, nottingham, July 24, 2006

I had to endure a whole week in this hell hole. Yes it is cheap but it certainly does not represent value for money. The room was tatty and dated and had not been thoroughly cleaned- there was hair in the bath plug, the television reception was terrible, after my first night the cleaners didnt even bother making the beds. I could of overlooked all of that if it weren't for the staff who were astonishingly rude and even insulting. The only good point was the feeling of joy i got when i left the place knowing i would never have to return. If i could have scored this hotel any less than 1 out of 5 I would have done.

1 of 5  Never again, A TripAdvisor Member, Cambridge, UK, June 1, 2006

With an early morning flight the next day, we thought that we'd stay at the hotel so that could be close to the airport and get some additional sleep. Unfortunately that didn't happen... the room was terrible - cracked plaster walls, threadbare carpet and a very uncomfortable mattress. Parking is a problem and in the pouring rain we had to carry our luggage quite a way to the hotel. With an early flight ahead, we went to bed early, but rather than sleep, we heard the constant flow of intoxicated people walking by the hotel. While the woman who checked us in was friendly and very pleasant, the gentleman at the desk in the morning was gruff and when a family member from overseas called in the middle of the night with an emergency, he threatened not to put the call through to us. In the future, we'll sleep at home and just get up early to go to the airport!

1 of 5  awful place, A TripAdvisor Member, london, April 9, 2006

This is really one of the worst hotels I've stayed in. I arrived late evening to find that the car park closest to the hotel was not in use due to council repairs and that I had to park at the other side of a deserted (apart from a few unsavoury characters) shopping precinct and walk back to the hotel. It has no road access so you have to carry everything quite a way. The reception staff were the best thing about the hotel - they were at least friendly and as helpful as they could be. The room had a threadbare carpet, a bathroom that looked as if it hadn't seen a good clean in ages and the room was freezing as the heating didn't seem to be working. Luckily I only had to spend one night there. Frankly, this hotel compares unfavourably with some of the low-budget hotels you find in India.

1 of 5  Tired and dated Room, A TripAdvisor Member, March 7, 2005

The only things going for this hotel are that it is cheap and that it is close to the bus and train station. We stayed in a non-smoking room that I would say used to be a smoking room. A fresh lick of paint did not get rid off the smell. There was a smell in the corridor also. The shower and bathroom were fine. The bed waas not the most comfortable. If you are staying only one night it is not the worst place to stay. The guy who checked us in was very unfriendly. While the lady who checked us out was friendly but did not know where the bus to the airport left from!!!! i would have thought that this is basic knowledge known by all hotel staff world over!!!!
