5 of 5  could not have been better, A TripAdvisor Member, Brisbane, June 25, 2009

Perfect location to view Rome by foot. Staff were amazingly hospitable and friendly and even helped my husband with his rusty Italian. We wouldn't consider staying anywhere else when we return to Rome. The rooftop bar is spectacular and the breakfast buffet was more than adequate and a fresh change from the usual fry ups. Loved everything about it.

5 of 5  Understated Luxury, A TripAdvisor Member, Toronto, Canada, June 23, 2009

Booked a superior room for five nights in the second half of May - and was pleasantly surprised when I got there. Frankly, my expectations weren't that great; the location was smack in the centre, and I thought the room was going to be one of those claustrophobic shoe boxes. Wrong!

The room, though not cheap at ~130 euros/night, was quite spacious with a small living room, a separate bedroom, and a spacious bathroom (the bathroom included little niceties such as shaving cream, cotton swabs, etc. that are not that common in "three-star" European hotels, at least in my experience). Service was impeccable at all times, polite and friendly, whether at the front desk or the breakfast room. The breakfast was on a rooftop terrace, which was a delight in itself in the sunny Roman mornings.

Finally - and I can't stress this enough - the location was ideal in the best sense of the word. Even among central locations, this is really central. The Colosseum is a twenty-minute walk, the Vatican about twenty-five. The Pantheon is a few steps away; Piazza Navona is nearby as well. The Spanish Steps are twenty minutes away. Even the Villa Borghese can be reached within thirty minutes of walking. I never had to use public transportation during my stay there.

The hotel is approximately a 15-20 - minute taxi ride from the Termini Station, depending on traffic.

Overall impression: I can't think of any complaints - none - and highly recommend this hotel.

5 of 5  Brilliant Location, A TripAdvisor Member, London, June 6, 2009

This hotel is so central you could not be better placed. It is only five mins from Trevi fountain. The restuarants outside the hotel are good value too. The breakfast room is located on the roof which is fantastic. The quality of the breakfast was fantastic, Kellogs cereals in sealed boxes - none of this dip into a bowl!

The staff were extremely friendly and could not do enough for us, the rooms were spacious and clean.

We would not stay anywhere else in Rome and would recommend it to all.

5 of 5  Best Location in Rome, Wonderful Rooftop, Great Value, A TripAdvisor Member, Buffalo, New York, May 25, 2009

Been to Rome before and stayed in Trastevere last time. Wanted a more central location this time and Albergo Cesari definitely fit the bill. Everything was close by and was just far away enough from Via Corso that I heard no noise.

The rooftop is modern and very spacious. The view is relaxing and it is a nice place to wind down after a long day. Breakfast was also served upstairs and the selection was more than adequate.

The reception staff was very friendly and when I chose to extend my stay the staff went out of their way to make sure I stayed in the same room. Friendly and efficient.

My only complaint is that the shower stall was quite small but the room was large enough.

Albergo Cesari was an excellent value for the location and amenities. I would definitely recommend it to any one visiting Rome.

5 of 5  Best location in Roma, Italy, A TripAdvisor Member, Brisbane, March 1, 2009

I loved this hotel. I stayed there for 3 nights, while I was by myself in Rome for work back in October 08. From the moment I arrived at the hotel (bright and early in the morning) my room was ready straight away. I walked into my room, which was just a standard room and it was amazing, nothing I could have imagined, the bedroom was huge and so was the bathroom, ultra clean but very old school, hey its to be expected, you in Rome.

My room was on the corner of the building, so I had windows everywhere. Directly below my window was a couple of restaurants and yes you could hear people talking into all hours of the night, but to me that was magical, because not only could I hear all the gorgeous Italian accents downstairs but I could hear some of the men, start to breakout and sing in Italian from time to time, it was truly spectacular.

The Albergo Cesari I felt was in one of the best locations in Roma, 5 minutes walk one way was the Pantheon and less then 5 minutes walk the other direction was The Trevi Fountain. It is alright basically right in the centre of Rome so you can walk everywhere.

All the tour companies picked up from my hotel as well, so that was great.

On the top floor of the hotel is where Breakfast is served, this was spectacular because you literally over looked all roof's surrounding you. The only thing was breakfast started at 7am each morning and if you were leaving early any more for a tour (ie. The Vatican) you couldn't get any breakfast even though you had already paid for it. But oh well, that was the only down fall and I could live with it.

I am a Travel Agent and I have been sending all my passengers to stay at this hotel since I have returned home from my trip.

5 of 5  Great staff & location, A TripAdvisor Member, ORD, December 16, 2008

We recently stayed at the Hotel Cesari. I'd call it a solid 3 star hotel.

To give a point of reference it is 20 meters (60') from the Temple of Hadrian / Piazza di Pietra : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_of_Hadrian

We found the location great. We walked all over (to the Coliseum and Forum, Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, as well as back from the Vatican.)

Breakfast was included and was a very good spread.

We really liked the rooftop bar which has a decent amount of outdoors area. The bartender is a really congenial guy and is glad to make reservations for you or answer questions (as were all the front desk staff).

I know there were cheaper transportation options but the hotel will offer car service for 55€. Wife & I caught different flights and for both of us they were prompt with sign waiting to pick us up. We were able to confirm transportation via email with the hotel.

Room was decent sized, shower was VERY small. Rooms facing the rear of the hotel have more noise as there is a scooter parking area directly behind the property.

I would not hesitate to stay again at this property.

5 of 5  Good location and great roof garden, A TripAdvisor Member, NSW, October 19, 2008

We really liked the Cesari. The location is central and very convenient. Out room was very large (we had a triple), clean and quiet (though the furnishings were a little dated - but I think they are progressively updating the rooms). The roof garden was beautiful - a great place for breakfast or a drink - and the breakfast was very nice. The staff were friendly. Internet access was available. We had a great stay!

5 of 5  Absolutely Perfect!, A TripAdvisor Member, New Jersey, August 27, 2008

This was my first trip to Italy, a birthday present from my dad. I was with my mother, sister and daughter. My daughter and I shared one room and my mother and sister shared another. Our room was wonderful, everything was new and the view of the street below was wonderful. The staff at the hotel was very accommodating. This hotel is centrally located to every site in Rome. It is very close to the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, the Colliseum.. and more.. This hotel is also close to street markets and shopping. The bakery down the street Forno, makes excellent sandwiches on delicious foccacia bread.. and the gelati is to die for....YUM.. all within a few steps from the hotel.

We all loved the plentiful breakfast on the terrace in the morning and enjoyed drinks in the evening also.. Belini's were molto bene!!! I definitely want to bring my husband and son back to visit this spectacular city and stay at this wonderful hotel..

5 of 5  Perfect Small Hotel in a Great Location, A TripAdvisor Member, Bay Area California, August 26, 2008

My family and I (plus two of our adult children's friends) had three rooms at the Albergo Cesari at the end of July after 2 weeks at a villa in the Italian countryside. I thought the rooms might feel cramped after the villa, but they were very comfortable, and recently renovated. The air conditioning was fabulous, especially welcome in July in Rome. The Trevi Fountain and the Spanish steps are just a short stroll away, and most other sights are within walking distance as well.

The staff at the front desk was very helpful - and spoke English quite well (great for us since our Italian was limited!). They made restaurant reservations for us, suggested an inexpensive place around the corner for a late evening meal sitting outside (quite nice, and we had a great time), and mapped out directions each morning for our sightseeing.

Breakfast is served on a large patio area on the rooftop which was just recently opened, and it's a great spot. You can get a cappuccino with your meal (which I loved) and in the evening the area is a bar with snacks. Great way to unwind before heading out for dinner.

We would certainly go back to this hotel - had a great time!

5 of 5  Loved the Albergi, A TripAdvisor Member, houston, August 25, 2008

My family of 4 rented 2 rooms and we stayed 7 nights. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were pleased that the rooms were larger than your typical European rooms. The employees were all very polite and helpful.

The air conditioning worked extremely well, which was nice as August in Italy is very hot. The breakfast buffet was good and offered variety of pastries as well.

The hotel's location cannot be beat, it is centrally located and a block away from the bus stop. The Pantheon, Navona Plaza, and the Trevi fountain were within a 10 minute walk. The shopping area was also within 15 minutes, so my wife loved that.

I highly recommend Albergo Cesari and I would definitely stay there again.

5 of 5  Best location, just beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!, A TripAdvisor Member, New Jersey, August 5, 2008

Just completed a 6 day stay at Cesari. Location of hotel is just outstanding. Hotel is located just off Piazza Di Pietra on a queit street with no cars. About 3 blocks from the Pantheon and 3 blocks from Trevi Fountain. You can just walk to everything.

The front desk was just great and very accomodating. From suggesting restaurants, to reserving musems or just getting a taxi right to the front door.

The hotel has two no smoking floors. We stayed on the 4th floor with our room overlooking the piazza. The room was quite large and the air conditioning was unbelievable. It was so cold we had to turn if off at night. The hotel staff told us the entire AC system was replaced in the last year.

The highlight of the hotel is the brand new rooftop terrace. Breakfast was served everyday on the terrace. Large selection and cappucino or expresso included. At night, the rooftop terrace was open for cocktails from 5PM to midnight. Just spectacular.

We could not have been more happy with this hotel. Some posters have written about the hotel and furniture looking a bit worn, but I don't know what they are talking about. This was a perfect small Italian hotel right in the middle of everything. Would reccomend it to anyone and would absolutely stay there again!!!!

5 of 5  Great stay at Albergo Cesari, A TripAdvisor Member, United Kingdom, June 9, 2008

The location of Albergo Cesari is perfect for exploring the historical part of Rome - we were able to walk to all places of interest, including some lovely restaurants in Trastevere.

We were lucky to get upgraded to a superior room after a problem with the sink in our standard room and although the bathrooms were exactly the same (spotlessly clean but showing some age), the superior room was much bigger and brighter, with lovely new furniture.

One of the best things about the hotel is its great new roof terrace where we took our breakfast (very good choice of cold meats, cheese, bakery, fruit, etc) and which works as a bar in the evening.

All the staff was very courteous and the service was excellent.

5 of 5  Really cosy breakfast, A TripAdvisor Member, Helsinki, Finland, June 3, 2008

Really nice n cosy hotel in a quiet part of the street. Very good breakfast area, rooftop.

The only negative thing is that if U live on the first floor, as I did, U hear all the noice from the reception very easily :(

5 of 5  Perfect, A TripAdvisor Member, kent, April 30, 2008

Fabulous location. 5 mins from every major site. really good helpful front desk staff. Superb breakfasts on new rooftop terrace

5 of 5  Great Location, A TripAdvisor Member, San Antonio, Texas, March 24, 2008

My husband and I spent 3 nights in this hotel, which has a great location. It is located on the Via di Pietra within 3 blocks of the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain. We found it very easy to walk to most of the site in central Rome from the hotel. This included the Forum, the Spanish Steps, the Piazza Navona and the Campo De Fiori. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. And, there are two stores where one can purchase groceries.

Our room was very comfortable with a firm bed and extra pillows. There was a large wardrobe for clothes, but not much dresser space (tiny drawers). The windows had shutters that could be closed to block out light and sound for an easier sleep in a busy city.

The staff was very helpful, fluent in English and patient with our attempts at Italian.

The breakfast was lovely. Standard Italian offering of cappicino, breads, pastries, hard boiled eggs, cereals, juice, fruit, etc. It was served on the 5th floor, where the hotel has also built a lovely roof-top patio area. (It was raining while we were there so we didn't get to take advantage of it.) Some of the reviews I read complained about the size of the breakfast area, but there were plenty of tables and it was never crowded.

We would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants the convenience of walking to various sites in the center of Rome.

5 of 5  A Trip of a Lifetime, A TripAdvisor Member, Spring Valley, California, February 4, 2008

It has been a couple of years since we stayed at the Cesari Hotel in Rome for 3 nights at the end of a 12 day cruise of Europe. It was the trip of a lifetime, and the Cesari was a grand way to finish it off. There were 4 of us in one room, so they gave us one of the biggest ones, which was just breathtaking. You see this little door in the middle of the alley and you don't expect too much. The lobby is tiny and there are little hallways that you go down to get everywhere like a little maze, but you open the door and pow--this beautiful high ceilinged room. A bit of old Europe with a fairly good mattress and even breakfast in the morning. We loved not having to buy breakfast in Rome, and found it very satisfying and quaint. The location was right between the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon, so major sight seeing just steps away. I loved the little shops down below. We will always treasure our memories of Italy, and this hotel.

5 of 5  What a pleasant surprise!, A TripAdvisor Member, Hopkinton, MA, September 24, 2007

We just got back from Rome staying three nights here. It was such a quaint hotel located close to everything. Approximately three blocks from the Trevi Fountain. Three blocks from the Panethon. One block to the Corso where you could get all the bus lines. Our room (#43) overlooked the pedestrain street below lined with cafes. We had a newly renovated room which was quite spacious, large bathroom and immaculate. Bathrobes and slippers were provided for your comfort. I was concerned with other reviews regarding the dining area for breakfast. But it was quite adequate serving a traditional "Italian breakfast" - Meats, cheeses, eggs, fruit, bread, pastries, etc. Excellent cappuccino!!!!! They are still in the construction mode for the rooftop dining area. I took a peek. It will be wonderful when it is finished, but didn't hamper our stay. The staff was always helpful in any of our requests. If there was a down side (which this is a stretch) If your windows are open at night you will hear noise from the street and cafes. But you are in the city on the fourth floor. You are going to hear the city!!! What a great time and location, location, location. I definitely will stay here again.

5 of 5  Great hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Chicago, IL, July 9, 2007

Loved this hotel. Staff was very helpful. They made Borghese Gallery reservations for us; gave excellent restaurant recommendations. They were always pleasant and helpful. Room was clean, nice decor. Breakfast was excellent. Would definitely recommend and stay here again. Location is a big plus, close to Trevi Fountain and Pantheon. You can walk anywhere in Rome from here.

5 of 5  Right in the Middle, A TripAdvisor Member, N Ireland, May 28, 2006

Great hotel right in the center of Rome - minutes from the Trevi fountain and the Pantheon

Excellent continental breakfast - very pleaseant and helpful staff

Rooms small - but expect that in Rome- However very clean and quiet.

Recommend a stay here.

Dont be put off by the outside appearance as it needs a little paint - more than made up for on the inside.

Close to everything

5 of 5  Perfect position, A TripAdvisor Member, Colchester, England, May 3, 2006

We booked a break at this hotel in late April and were more than pleased!

It is right in the middle of the tourist area and all sights are within walking distance (turn left out of the hotel and within 100 yards is the pantheon, turn right and the trevi fountain is 200 yards away!)

The hotel is very clean and the staff are very friendly.

Yes it is noisy at night but you are in the middle of a city with lots of traffic(although the hotel is in a quiter side street) but the hotel has double glazed windows and if you are hyper sensistive sound proof shutters on the inside.

However both my wife and myself were able to sleep with the windows just open a little bit.

I would recommend this hotel for anyone and am looking forward to returning!

4 of 5  Can't beat this location!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Ontario, May 31, 2009

My husband and I stayed at the Albergo Cesari during our short stay in Rome. We just finished a 10 day cruise and wanted to stay in Rome for a couple of days. We wanted a hotel that was walking distance to most of the famous sites in Rome and we got just that. It was perfect. Great hotel choice for a short stay.

The hotel staff was pleasant enough but I wouldn't rate them as friendly. They did speak English well and they do provide maps for your stay in Rome which was helpful. The hotel is located on a lovely side street across from a couple of cafe`s, vendors and souvenir stores. The cab will let you off just a few steps away from the hotel. The street that the hotel is situated is for pedestrians only. Depending on what room you get, it can be noisy at night.

The only thing that bothered us was that they do ask to see your passport when you arrive. They will enter what information they need from your passport into their data base and give it right back to you. When we questioned them, they stated that it was a law in Rome to show your passport on arrival at any hotel. We also stayed at the Crowne Plaza for one night before our cruise started and they did not ask for our passports. So, not sure why only some hotels request for this information.

We enjoyed our buffet breakfast at the roof top terrace. It was a lovely view while enjoying our cappuccino. The buffet was a nice mix of fruit, pound cake, apple strudel, croissants and cornflakes.....nothing fancy. No bread.....you have to ask for bread which I thought was unusual. The selection they had was more than enough to start your day. Breakfast starts at 7am.

4 of 5  Fabulous location, but the room wasn't much, A TripAdvisor Member, Williamsburg, Virginia, April 27, 2009

My first thought on being shown our room (two twin beds) was, "Why on Earth did TWO guidebooks recommend this place?" I figured the "superior" rooms must have been a lot better. The room was extremely small and dark. The only place to open a suitcase was on the bed. There was no dresser or drawers, so unpacking wasn't an option.

But, we weren't in Rome for the hotel room. The hotel rooftop breakfast room and patio were GORGEOUS. I loved being up there looking over all the tile rooflines and church spires and domes. Absolutely gorgeous. The breakfast was fine, but nothing fancy. The hotel staff was courteous, but I wouldn't call them friendly.

The location of this hotel cannot be beat. My 13 year old son and I walked EVERYWHERE and I don't think any place was more than a 20 minute walk, even the Vatican. The narrow maze of cobblestoned streets surrounding the hotel were absolutely delightful. There were tons of places to eat and to do a little shopping.

We absolutely loved Rome. Our pokey little hotel room wasn't able to diminish our joy even one little bit.

4 of 5  Greatest Location in Rome, A TripAdvisor Member, Denmark, January 8, 2009

We spent our Christmas holidays (2008) at the Cesari hotel. The hotel is situated in the very heart of Rome - in walking distance to all the famous attractions. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area.

The first room we got was not very spacious. The walls were very thin so we could hear almost everything our neighbours said. But after one night we got a bigger and better room. All the staff we met were very friendly and very service minded.

Breakfast was good with a variety of bread, cheese, ham, fruit and juice.

There is a very nice roof terrace - must be lovely in the summer time.

Overall I would say this is the very best hotel we have ever stayed in when visiting Rome and we will definitely come back.

Negative comments: The shower cabins are covered with much mould - this should be removed or the shower cabins should be replaced with new ones.

4 of 5  Would stay there again, A TripAdvisor Member, New York, December 22, 2008

I stayed for a week in December of 2005. The rooms were clean and pretty, and the location was right near the Pantheon. I've seen complaints about the noise on here, but I didn't notice anything. Then again, I'm from New York.

The one thing that I would do differently next time is that I would avoid getting the breakfast if I could avoid it. It was included in our package last time, so I was sort of stuck with it. The buffet was large and varied, but the quality was nothing special, and there's no reason to eat such a huge breakfast. It's especially pointless given that the wonderful coffee shop Tasso D'Oro is right nearby, and you could have some of the most amazing coffee in the world and a lovely little pastry each morning for much less than the hotel breakfast.

4 of 5  Great Location!!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Hoboken, New Jersey, December 11, 2008

We stayed here for the first part of our honeymoon, and were very pleased by this hotel! The location cannot be beat! It is within walking distance from the subway (which was awesome!!) and many tourist spots like the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and Spanish Steps. The concierge was very helpful, especially Benny, who went above and beyond to make sure we had a great trip (Excellent restaurant recommendations, booking our train tickets on line, etc). The breakfast is also pretty good in the morning. It is not the fanciest hotel by any means, but the location and service make up for it! We would definitely stay here again.

4 of 5  The Best Location in All of Rome!!!!!!!!!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Miami, October 3, 2008

The Albergo Cesari, by far, has the best location in all of Rome! We stayed her for 3 nights and truly enjoyed our stay! The hotel is located 2 blocks from the Pantheon and 2 blocks from the Trevi Fountain and all of its surroundings. It's just a 10 minute walk to the Vittorio Emanuele II Monument and the surrounding landmarks (Roman Forum and Colosseum).

The hotel room itself is comfortable and clean. The only reason why I did not give it 5 stars is because the bathroom had a bit of mold, but it was very minimal. In addition, the hair blow dryer wasn't the greatest... so girls...BYOB (bring your own blow dryer!).

The staff was very nice and helpful providing us with great directions on how to get around the city and providing us with great dining recommendations. Jan, at the front desk, was extremely helpful and helped us schedule our pick up at the airport. He was very responsive and provided us with great service.

The hotel has a beautiful terrace and bar in the top floor that has beautiful views and a great ambiance. My husband and I would go up every night before we went out on the town for a glass of wine. It was a great way to start our night!

We would highly recommend for everyone to stay in this hotel. Great location, great price and great service . . . what more can you ask for??

4 of 5  Nice Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Chicago, September 24, 2008

Really enjoyed the hotel. Right in the heart of rome...a short walk to the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain. Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooftop terrace very nice. Our room was basic, nothing fancy and small, but clean and it worked for us. Hotel will arrange for a car to pick you up at the airport (60 Euro) well worth it. We'd stay there again.

4 of 5  Excellent location, A TripAdvisor Member, England, April 12, 2008

I chose this hotel because of its location and because of the good reviews it has received. We weren't disappointed. Friendly and helpful staff, compact perfectly formed room with excellent facilities, wonderfully comfortable bed, very useful working safe, and so on. No complaints. Breakfast was great and it was a plus to be able to sit outside on the rooftop terrace on our second morning and soak up the sun. Will def. return here one day.

4 of 5  Centrally Situated, A TripAdvisor Member, oxon, February 19, 2008

This hotel is very central, giving easy access to all the sightseeing you could wish for in Rome, between the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain, (each about 5 mins walk) Great attention to detail for a comfortable stay, nothing is too much trouble and the reception staff are helpful and polite. The hotel is situated in a great area for eating out, with many reasonably priced restaurants situated within two mins walk, some being right outside the hotel. A quiet area of Rome ideal for everyone wanting to visit the main attractions. Comfortable and warm, we didnt want for anything although on the downside the breakfast room (breakfast was included in the price) is VERY small and not adequate for the hotel - the tables and chairs are very close together and all but tea and coffee is self service - a scramble every morning( although the breakfast was good for choice and quality). Having said this the hotel on the whole is very good value for money and we would go back without hesitation. Can recommend!

4 of 5  Great Location, Fine Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Vancouver, October 21, 2007

We (my spouse and I) stayed at the Hotel Cesari for 4 nights in mid-October, the last of 5 locations in Italy over 3 weeks. We were impressed. The room (31) faced Via Pietra and was clean and well-fitted, the only thing to note is that virtually all the doors squeaked when opened. Bathroom and shower were fine. Breakfast was one of the best of the 5 that we tried, no problem with multiple cappuccinos and the fruit was ripe and tasty.

Day reception staff were very helpful, sorting through a surprise 1 day taxi strike and arranging an early morning car to the airport for our departure. Night (after 16:00) reception was a little different, not as friendly and preoccupied.

Location, location, location, as other reviewers have noted for sight seeing is outstanding, but how about the 3 bars and 2 ristorantes right outside the hotel? At night the window had to be closed to keep out the street noise but the A/C worked fine.

After being repeatedly warned about pickpockets in Rome, we instead found police almost everywhere.

Overall, we would stay there again.

4 of 5  best location in rome!, A TripAdvisor Member, lincolnshire, September 8, 2007

my husband and i have just returned from a three night stay here with three other couples. could not recommend the hotel more highly. It has the best location you're likely to find in rome. five minute walk to trevi fountain and same distance to pantheon in the opposite direction. our bedroom was very clean and spaciousand although the breakfast room is small, we never had trouble finding a table and the food is all fresh and well presented and with excellent cappuccino. reception staff were very heplful, booking taxis, which by the way are very reliable in rome, and making restaurant reservations for us.

4 of 5  Good Hotel, Great Locaiton, A TripAdvisor Member, Southington, CT, July 21, 2007

We stayed 4 nights from July 7 through July 10 and were very satisfied with the room and the hotel. I read so many negative reviews about the tiny breakfast room that I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it. The four of us never had a problem finding a place to sit and didn't mind that the breakfast wasn't up to American "standards". Who cares? We were in Rome! And what a great location, location, location. We would definitely stay there again if we return to Rome. Did I mention the great location? Right off the Via del Corso, minutes from the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navonna. We walked to the Colloseum, the Tiber, the Campo di Fiori, the Villa Borghese Partk, Hard Rock Cafe, Spanish Steps, etc. etc.

4 of 5  Love the Cesari, A TripAdvisor Member, Maui, August 22, 2006

I have stayed many times at this hotel and find the location absolutely the best. The staff has always been very helpful and friendly. The breakfast has a good selection. Though the breakfast room is very small, it has allowed us to meet other travelers as we are seated so close to each other.

4 of 5  Can't Beat the Location!, A TripAdvisor Member, Melbourne, Australia, June 7, 2006

The Location about 100m to Pantheon and 200m to Trevi Fountain is excellant. It is on a busy but cute side treet. We had NO problems with noise as the windows were double glazed and had shutters. The room was a good size and had great views. We were lucky enough to get the top corner room as it was our honeymoon. They even gave us complimentary champagne!

We walked everywhere: Vatican, Colesseum, Trastevere including with our back packs to and from Termini so no need for Taxis/buses etc which is great.

Yes the breakfast room is a bit small but the food is good and staff friendly. Reception staff are ok, given no-one attempts to speak Italian to them! We didn't really ask them anything so don't know if they were excellant or not. Price is expensive, although Rome is VERY expensive and for location its worth it.

3 of 5  Great Location, A TripAdvisor Member, Athens, May 25, 2009

Nice small hotel, great location only few minutes from Trevi Fountain, some rooms are very noisy though due to its location. Staff friendly .

What I did not like and surprised me and my friends was breakfast. No bread at all, staff bringing few slices after having asked many times, great view from the breakfast room though...

3 of 5  Mixed impressions, A TripAdvisor Member, Sydney, November 4, 2008

On the plus side, the hotel is well located for exploring Rome by foot, the breakfast on the roof terrace was very good, the general decor and cleanliness were good and the staff were friendly and helpful. However, the room (a single) and bathroom were very pokey and poor value compared to other places I've stayed in Rome, it's almost impossible to get into the shower and close the concertina screen, despite getting a "quiet room" it was quite noisy from other guests going to and fro and it is on a busy tourist walking route with restaurants down at street level, for some reason it was often difficult to get hot water during my stay(although it did come through after several minutes and much fiddling with the taps) and I had to return to the hotel after I'd checked out to collect laundry that wasn't delivered the evening before.

3 of 5  location good but noisy, A TripAdvisor Member, cheshire, October 13, 2008

just spent few days at the cesari hotel good location but was spoilt by the noise despite asking for a quiet room when booking we were put on the first floor overlooking the restaurants on both roads. was okay thursday night went quiet about 12,00 but fri and sat night just never stopped. hotel has double glazing but not good enough when we mentioned to the manager he just said rome is noisy. would not stay there again last time we stayed in rome we stayed near the termini and it was bliss compared to this. room was okay food was good. just spoilt by the room we were given management not very interested.

3 of 5  great location....good value, A TripAdvisor Member, maine, March 4, 2008

We stayed at the Hotel Cesari for three nights in February 2008. As other reviewers have noted, the hotel is in an ideal location for visiting Rome. Our accommodations though somewhat on the small side, were perfectly adequate and the front desk was attentive to all our needs. There has been a major renovation on the rooftop, and instead of a crowded breakfast room downstairs, there is a fabulous new roof top terrace which makes it a joy to have breakfast in the morning. I would certainly stay in the Cesari again just to eat breakfast!

3 of 5  Fantastic location, A TripAdvisor Member, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, May 28, 2007

I stayed here in May 2007. The best thing the albergo has to offer is its location, right in the centre of old Rome, next to Hadrian's Tample and a short walk from the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. I booked a single room and was pleasantly surprised to find a spacious room and bathroom, and a chilled bottle of Prosecco waiting for me. It was evident that the hotel had taken great measures to reduce the noise levels from the busy street below, however, the walls between rooms, and the corridor were not sufficient in blocking out the noise from activities of other guests. I also found the breakfast room incredibly small. I had no choice but to grab a few bits from the buffet and head back to my room. All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel for short stays in Rome because of its excellent location.

3 of 5  Great Location, SMALL room, A TripAdvisor Member, Santa Monica, CA, January 7, 2007

We stayed at the Albergo Cesari for one night right after Christmas 2006. Despite what the website says, the construction work is still going on, so consequently we had a nice view of scaffolding.

The hotel website boasts soundproof rooms because of the location along a busy street. The rooms were definately soundproofed FROM THE OUTSIDE, but the interior walls were paper thin. A few other negatives were the small bedroom with an even smaller bathroom, and the awful downstairs bar.

The positives were the location, the front desk staff, and the (one) free computer with internet in the lobby.

3 of 5  Check before booking!, A TripAdvisor Member, London, November 16, 2006

I stayed in November '06, and, contrary to what their website says, building work is still going on at the hotel. I got a 20% discount for scaffolding outside my window and the noise and dust resulting from clearly major works on the top floors - currently closed. I would strongly recommend checking that ALL work is complete before booking here.

Other than that, I would agree with the general view here - it is a reasonable if unmemorable mid priced hotel, with good levels of service, in an absolutely prime location.

3 of 5  Great location but a bit pricey!, A TripAdvisor Member, New York, NY, May 18, 2006

Room was very clean. But the walls are thin. We could hear everything going on on the second floor. The best part is the location which is tucked away by the Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain. Not so touristy and crowded by via veneto. The breakfast (which is included in price) was nothing special. The people at the hotel are not the warmest, but all in all we were statisfied.

2 of 5  Too expensive for what you get, A TripAdvisor Member, Australia, October 7, 2008

So disappointed in this hotel. The location was good. Staff we OK on arrival but not particularly friendly. Room was a good size and bathroom was big but the shower was in serious need of a good clean as was the bathroom generally. The street noise was dampened well by the double glazing. Roof top terrace was nice and the staff there were very good. I thought the hotel was very over priced for what we got.

2 of 5  Location but little else, A TripAdvisor Member, pittsburg, pennsylvania, July 17, 2008

The Albergo Cesari is in a great location (right between the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon), but that's really all it has going for it. The rooms are of a decent size, but they are by no means "clean." The "freshly laundered" sheets and towels were covered in hair every day. The furniture is rather old and worn, and my room smelled like burning peanuts the whole time I was there. I traveled all around Italy for two weeks, and the breakfast buffet here was the worst I had during my trip. You won't be in your room much in Rome, but I'd search for other hotels before staying here again.

2 of 5  Okay, A TripAdvisor Member, Perth, October 12, 2007

This hotel is okay but one of the staff had a weird manner and the carpets were very dirty. The rooms did not have very good beds and the showers curtains were broken. The breakfast was not that good either it did not have much of the way of healthy things like fruit which were unripe. Apart from that it had great location basically minutes walk from numbers of main attractions in Rome. Altogether i would not entirely recommend this hotel you could find quite alot of better hotels.

2 of 5  Bad service, dingy room, but a good location, I suppose., A TripAdvisor Member, Flyover Country, August 30, 2007

I'd booked a room via hotels.com after reading the reviews here; sorry to say, I did not have the pleasant experience others did. After missing my Eurostar connexion in Florence and winding up on a regional train to Rome (NO AIR CONDITIONING) that took twice as long to cover the same distance, all I wanted was to check in quickly and take a shower. Boy, was that a fool's dream. It was 7PM when I arrived, and after presenting myself at the desk and saying that I had a reservation, I was greeted with a level of hostility I hope to never again encounter from a professional. I was told that I did not, in fact, have a reservation; I asked if he would check, but he refused and kept insisting that I did not have a reservation and had no right to be standing in his lobby. When I called a friend (having her hack my e-mail account to give me my hotels.com confirmation number), the man refused to listen to the number and then told me, with a great deal of condescension, 'Don't worry, I will give you a room.' He also kept repeating, quite cruelly, 'I find it strange that everyone else was here this morning and now you show up at this hour.' (It's strange someone wants to give a hotel money...?) I attempted to explain that I was not with 'everyone else' (?!) and that my train had been delayed, but he was clearly not listening to me and I eventually gave up.

None of this would have been so upsetting if the clerk hadn't been, frankly, so absolutely nasty. His English, while far more advanced than my phrasebook Italian, was not fluent, and at times I had difficulty understanding what he was saying (and what the situation was). (Which, honestly, was not really the fault of a language barrier so much as his total refusal to explain anything to me or let me know what he was doing.) After politely (and in tears) saying, 'I'm sorry, I don't understand what's going on and I didn't quite hear that. Could you please repeat what you just said?' he threw me a withering look, ignored me, and went back to punching things into the computer. The upshot of our conversation was that I was told, after already paying the hotel several hundred dollars, was that I now needed to pay 184USD for a room that night. Too tired to find anywhere else to stay at that hour, I said yes, went upstairs, and collapsed.

Plus side: the air conditioning actually left me freezing in my room, which is a true accomplishment, as it was August, 97 degrees, and I had just spent hours on the world's slowest train. On the downside: everything else. The room was quite dingy and dark; the wood floors were almost completely scuffed up, as was the furniture. There were a number of interesting scrapes and stains on the walls, and the bathroom had not been cleaned properly. The drain in the tub/shower was broken; the stop had to be screwed in manually, as it was actually detached from the tub. The toilet, while somewhat cleaner, was so low and close to the sink that my knees brushed up against the sink while sitting. There was also a delightful rotting meat smell to the room, just to make it all better.

The bed was fine, if a bit hard, and I was able to sleep. In the morning, when I went to check out (having made reservations at a new hotel), a new staff member greeted me, explained that they had found my reservation, apologized for the behaviour of his colleague (apparently, he's 'new'), refunded my money, and generally did everything you could hope for in that situation. However, since hotels.com had agreed to refund my money based on the call I'd made and because I'd already booked a room somewhere else, I checked out.

Left the hotel with mixed feelings -- the way I was treated the first night was a pretty bad start to Rome, but the hotel staff were completely kind the second day and did everything you would want them to do to make it up. At the same time: it shouldn't have happened at all. I can't help wondering if the staff member's hostility wasn't partly generated by my age and my gender -- a twenty year old woman with a backpack is not an imposing figure, and he seemed all to happy to think that the older American who struck up a conversation with me at the desk was my father.

2 of 5  Great Location!, A TripAdvisor Member, New Jersey, July 12, 2006

We were told the Air Conditioning would be working during our stay from June 23 to June 26 and that the entire system would be overhauled starting June 27. Needless to say the A/C didn't work at all. Without the A/C and extreme noise, you can forget about sleep. The staff and location were excellent. If you advertise A/C, please make sure it's working!

2 of 5  Great Location..dirty bathroom, A TripAdvisor Member, Suwanee, Georgia, July 8, 2006

This was our last stop on our 10 day visit to Italy. We stayed here for 3 nights and rented two rooms, one for our kids and one for us. The bathrooms in both rooms were tiled and the grout between all the tile in the floor and the walls was dirty. There was even crud on the light switch which I simply wiped off with tissue. The breakfast was in a very, very small room for the size of the hotel. The breakfast crew was unfriendly. This hotel was the most expensive one we stayed at while in Italy and it was definitely the worse. I would not stay there again.

2 of 5  Great location, but that's it, A TripAdvisor Member, Seattle, Washington, June 6, 2006

We just got back from a 4 day stay at Albergo Cesari and it was by far our least favorite room and it was the most expensive. The location is the best thing it has going for it. The service at the front desk was mediocre at best, our room was TINY even by European standards and I overheard another guest requesting a different room. But the worst part was the bathroom. I can handle small but the shower was horrible. The doors didn't shut, the drain didn't work and subsequently the floor was flooded. And there was black mold everywhere in the shower. It was very disgusting.

2 of 5  Noise was unbearable, A TripAdvisor Member, Chicago, May 24, 2006

Just got back from a month in Italy. Our first three nights were at the Albergo Cesari.

While the hotel is situated in a convenient location (between the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon), we will never stay there again, as the noise level is unbearable. We slept very little each night due to a street cleaning truck that came around at 3 or 4 a.m. followed by a garbage truck that ran for what seemed like hours. Also, the restaurant across the narrow street has an alfresco area where customers sit and laugh and talk while the waiters bang and clang dishes until late into the evening. The desk manager was perfunctory, at best, but not very friendly. From now on, we will stay at The Hotel S'Anna on Borgo Pio (at the Vatican) where it is quiet and we can get some sleep after all the day of walking and touring.
