Frauenhotel Artemisia - A Women's Hotel

I hadn't planned to stay at this hotel but arrived in Berlin wanting a one-night stay. I found this hotel in my Rough Guide and rang to make the reservation. Apparently this hotel does get very busy so early booking is advisable.

This hotel is lovely. the staff are really friendly and accomodating. We had a huge room with a seating area (including a sofa and two chairs), a huge double bed, and all the regular room fittings. It was very clean and although the hotel is obviously very old it still has a lot of the original features. This hotel has loads of character and a definite must!

The other residents seemed very friendly and would be ideal if you were a single traveller.

It's in a good location with loads of restaurants close by. It a 20 minutes walk to the Kurfurstendamn and about 10 minutes to the underground (that was the closest we found).

The breakfast was great. The breakfast room was very light and airy and the food was really good - buffet style.

If I was visiting Berlin again - which I'm sure I will, I will definitely go back to this hotel.

Exclusively for women, this is a wonderful hotel. Its a bit off-putting when you first arrive. The "hotel" is the 4th and 5th floor of a large town house, not well marked from the street (make careful note of the address). The entrance is only accessible by a buzzer, which lets you into an unmarked foyer. You have to get in the elevator and go to the fourth floor (the button in the elevator is marked). Once there, you have to be buzzed into the reception. However, once through that, this is a great hotel. The rooms are simple but clearly newly renovated and smart. The bathrooms are a very good size and well designed. The hotel is very quiet (no street noise, even with the windows open). Breakfast in the morning is a treat. The breakfast room is sunny and there is a deck and the buffet is diverse, healthy (by German standards) and fresh. The staff here are wonderful and it is a very comfortable environment. Wireless internet is available throughout (free) and there is a bar and library for socializing. You will feel right at home.

ホテルは地下鉄U-BahnのKonstanzer Str.駅から歩いてすぐのところにあります。繁華街クーダムには歩いて行ける距離です。また、他の場所にも地下鉄や近郊電車S-Bahnを乗り継いで行けるので、便利な場所にあると言えます。私は空港からバスでAdenauerplatzまで来て、そこから歩きましたが、スーツケースをひいて行くと少し遠く感じる距離でした。雨の日などは地下鉄を利用するのが良いと思います。ただ、Konstanzer Str. 駅は地上に出るとき階段を上るので、荷物が重いときは注意。

共同住居の３・４・５階（の一部）を改装してホテルにしているため、建物の入り口は居住者と共用です。木製の階段があり、壁にホテルのプレートが出ているので、気をつけていれば通り過ぎてしまうことはないと思います。入り口でフロントにつながる呼び鈴のボタンを押し、宿泊客であることを告げると、ドアを開けてくれます。ホール中ほど左手に小さなエレベータがあるので、４階まで行きます。降りると右手のドアがホテルの入り口です。ここでまた呼び鈴を押してドアを開けてもらい、到着です。

今回初めての宿泊で、それも12泊と比較的長い滞在だったので、どんなところかと少し心配でしたが、ここをはじめネット上に書かれていたレビューのとおり、とても静かで居心地の良い、安心できる場所でした。スタッフの女性たちはどの方も親切で、信頼できる人たちという印象を受けました。

ビュフェ式の朝食は、種類が豊富で楽しめました。旅行中に不足しがちな野菜をとることができたのは、嬉しかったです。５階の食堂は明るく開放的なつくりになっていて、天気の良い日はテラスに出て食事もできました。

客室は清潔に整えられていて、寝心地の良いベッドと枕でした。また、ワーキングデスクがあったこと、鍵付きの衣装ダンスがあったこと、無線LANでネット接続（無料）できたこと、浴室にドライヤーが備え付けられていたことも、非常に便利でした。

難点は、建物自体が古いためか、床を歩く音、水が流れる音などが響きやすい点です。しかし、私が泊まっていた間に限って言えば、22:00-07:00のRuhe Zeitには宿泊者の人たちは極力、音を立てないようにしていたようで、夜は静かに過ごせました。

ぜひまた泊まりたい宿です。
