comfortable bed, noisy, 9 euros for breakfast | Read all reviews
Good location. Handy underground carpark (6 euros per day). Bed confortable and good medium size room. Our room allocation(despite staying for multiple days)was on the road side and this is very noisy as major intersection is in front of hotel - I slept with earplugs. Wireless is not included, about 9 euros a day. Computer with internet available downstairs for free. Breakfast is not included in their standard rate: 9 euros a day. We had an unfortunate run in with one receptionist who took a rude and aggressive approach about an enquiry regarding making phone calls. Never understood why he took this approach. Other staff were great.

The hotel is well located and easy to find with ample parking even for high vehilcles (up to 2m05). The reception staff were very helpful as to where a chemist would be open on a Sunday and allowed us to store our daughters medicine in their refridgerator. The room was an average Ibis size, and the cot provided was excellent – a proper cot with a proper matress not just a travel one. The rooms were cleaned, though the bathroom was qutie small...just a shower with a deep base – just enough to bath a baby in. Would definitely recommend. Nothing special, just your average modern hotel. Rooms are nice and clean. Location is close to a train station, but not the main one, so its not exactly in the prime location. But still within walking distance of the center of the city. Would recommend. We stayed one night at the Ibis Mainz. We got what we expected, a clean, functional, room for the price. The room and bath were small, but well designed. We missed having a hair dryer. Breakfast was good but very crowded with folks on a tour. After they cleared out, the restaurant was more enjoyable. We took the money we saved by staying here, and splurged on dinner at the outside terrace at the Hilton on the river. Stayed here for 3 nights in April 2009. The hotel is going through a revamp which should bring it into the 21st century. The staff there are polite and helpful plus they speak good English. There is a small bar area that is nothing special and they can provide snacks in the evening but nothing more. Breakfast is a buffet and has all the normal things including freshly prepared fruit salad. Rooms are basic and mine smelt of cigarette smoke. There was a small desk to work from and the TV only had BBC World as an English language station. Location wise there are quite a few restaurants within 10 minutes walk and the main shopping centre is less than 15 minutes away. If your looking for a basic room and nothing else then this place is fine. We booked this hotel not knowing where it was in Mainz. We were very pleasantly surprised that it was located right next to the 'old' area of Mainz. One block down from the hotel and we would touring the old city. A great location. We parked the car in the underground parking lot went up stairs and quickly register. The room was larger then what were we use to in Europe. Clean and had a nice view of the street in front of the hotel (Which I requested). Down the street there is a Police Station, so there were police cars with sirens on waking us up at night. I should have asked for a room in the back. Next time... The hotel does have a public computer in the lobby with free internet. Worked well. We chose to make the Ibis Mainz our home base for a 3 night stay, June 30th –July 2nd. We rented a car from the Frankfurt airport with the goal of exploring the vineyards and castles along the Rhine and taking a day trip to Koblenz. The hotel is in a good location with easy access to the Autobahn. The Ibis’ parking garage was a great place to stow the car at about 5-6 Euro per night, which is a much cheaper rate than most garages in the area. It’s worth parking the car at the hotel and walking into town. Both the town center and Altstadt are only a ten minute leisurely walk from the hotel, which makes this location just fine. The Ibis offers a clean, comfortable room at a reasonable rate. There is ample closet and shelf space, a bathroom with shower and soap dispensers, A/C, extra bedding, and television with local German programming including Eurosport, MTV, business + international news programming (no English stations). Be aware that the bathroom does not have a hairdryer. There is no mini fridge and no alarm clock – you can ask the front desk to program a wakeup call. Our room faced the street but the noise didn’t bother us. Breakfast is available all morning but we found the bread wasn’t fresh and the value wasn’t worth the price. Instead, try Citrus, which has a huge breakfast buffet (serving both American and Continental fare) including the hot beverage of your choice. Also for cheap local eating, try the mini-mall and office space, called Malakoff Passage, located across the street (and opposite Citrus) for drinks and a good selection of snacks and larger meals. Other hotel features include multiple German newspapers, free internet in the lobby, food and drink onsite if you need it, and an English-speaking concierge. Great location and value if you don’t mind walking a bit to get to the action. I just returned from Mainz and quite enjoyed my stay at the IBIS. Pros: - underground parking unproblematic, plenty of space, easy access - room in IBIS standard - room on side street was quiet other rooms facing main street could probably be very loud ... - excellent breakfast offer, good value for money - free ADSL internet in lobby - very near to Altstadt - staff quite pleasant and efficient Cons: - no restaurant, but proximity to Altstadt with a great restaurant choice is a good solution, I tried the restaurant INCONTRO in Augustinerstrasse, a good Italian restaurant, very good food, good wines, excellent service a bit pricey though ... - TV programs very limited only German programs ... except for French speaking TV5, no English channels ... - at the time of my visit they had a very large group of American students on tour, young adults behaving like 4 years old, very noisy !!! - you have to stick your door card in a box to get light and power in the room, box very awkwardly placed, you have really to look for it, probably place is different in every room ..... Other staff were great. Pretty standard Ibis, our room was a bit scruffy and carpet had many stains. However, the hotel is in a good location for the old town and cathedral. Another benefit was the underground car park below the hotel – reasonably priced (Euro 6 per night) and we had no problem getting a space. Having read the reviews about the hotels nearer to the station, I think it was OK overall.
