People who want to book at this Mercure Hotel should know that there is really 2 hotels, one that seems perfect and comfortable, the other that is on the side of the motorway, the side where my bedroom was alas, and that side is absolutely terrible. The noise level is incredible and relentless as the traffic never ever stops, even in the dead of the night. Worse, it is at a crossroad so you get all the braking and speeding... The bed shakes from the vibrations and the window let through most of the rumbles. In brief you don't get a wink of sleep and it ruins whatever comfort and pleasantness the room can have. It is also a rip -off for a Mercure I think, to offer that kind of decibels. I tried to be switched to the 'right' side but to no avail as the staff does not really care about that problem. The breakfast is also masively overpriced as most of the stuff is already eaten if you arrive after 8.30am.

My husband and I booked this hotel via hotel.de. We stayed there for two nights on April and loved it! Firstly, the location is great; 20mins walking from the airport and 20mins walking from the hotel to the heart of the beautiful city of Bremen. There is also a tram (N6) every 10mins that stops few meters away from the hotel doing both directions to city and airport. Second, the staff was friendly, rooms- basic equipped but very clean, there was all we needed for our short stay. Third, the hotel's restaurant was offering food till 1am which is very good considering the fact that in the city most restaurants stop serving food around 11pm. One thing; we didn't take the breakfast option as we thought considering the prices in bakeries and cafes, €15 for breakfast was a bit overpriced...but who knows the breakfast could have been really good and worth the price! We loved Bremen and if we visited it again we would deffinately go to the same hotel. Hotel right on a tram line into the centre - arriving in centre in less than 5 minutes. It is also walking distance - around 15/20 minutes. Big room with microwave, rings and fridge, although no appliances - only 2 glasses! Didn't opt for the breakfast as there are many places along the road for a coffee and lovely pastries. Clean and quiet - we had a room at the back so can't comment if you end up at the front on the main road (which isn't all that busy at night). Good choice and excellent value for money. We stayed here one night and were very happy with our stay. Only Euro 67 (Sat night, including all tax) and near the airport, Autobahn and about 5 min drive from the center of town, which is gorgeous with good eating places along the canal/river. There's also a tram system into town that stops opposite the hotel. The rooms were a good size for Germany and had a small tv and separate bathroom with excellent shower, in fact the water was scalding if you didn't watch yourself! The parking was immediately behind the hotel in a walled area so we felt secure leaving the car there - the hotel staff said to leave nothing of value in the car and we had no problems. There's a small amount of tourist information in the hotel lobby, but best to know where you want to see/go before arriving in town - although just getting yourself to the middle of town and wandering like we did was also most enjoyable. If we were in the area again and especially driving, we'd stay there again. We just returned from Bremen and stayed for two nights in Mercure Hotel Hanseatic. Overall experience was positive. I had booked for the room as a "hot deal" 50 euros/per night and paid before hand. The welcome to the hotel was very warm and we were very delighted about it. The room was comfortable (did not expect to get this for the price). The shower was powerful and in all the bathroom was spacious enough and clean. The bed was also comfortable and there were tv channels to choose from. Like in one of the reviews there was a small kitchen with gas stove, fridge and microwave. The fridge was unplugged and there was no kitchenware. Because it was quite warm weekend around 25 c. The room was awfully warm and the hot air stayed there though we had the window open all night and all the noises from the street were quite annoying. I think when it is not as hot as this time the temperature of the rooms is ok. We did not take the breakfast because of the price (14 euros per person). There are plenty of good and cheap cafeterias in Bremen center. When we left the hotel by walking to the airport it was around 5 am. I just left the key to the counter and said bye because I had paid everyhing before hand. The person behind the counter came after us and knocked on the window and waved us to return. He said that there was 10 euros to be paid on the hotel bill. I was totally amazed because we had not used the hotel services at all (pay tv, restaurant, telephone etc.) We were in a hurry to the airport and said that we would pay the amount if they could show us the services we had used. After little arguing f ex no we have not taken the breakfast slept until 11 am etc they believed us.I don´t know if they truly believed us but we didn´t have to pay the amount. I think this 10 euros was just human error (wrong room number or something) and a small sum but still it didn´t feel nice arguing over that. We didn´t get any apology. So in all despite the situation above the stay was nice and the staff friendly and especially Bremen and would recommend this hotel and will stay here again but not in the summertime or on side where windows are to the street.. This is an OK hotel. Good location, easy to find and parking is fine. Close enough on tram to the centre of Bremen. Staff tend to speak OK English and the bar and food are fine without being outstanding. Rooms are a decent size and have good faciltiies - the cookers and fridge between rooms are useful if you're in a car and have stuff with you. BUT - the road! We've always stayed here in July or August and on a week night it's very noisy - so if it's hot you have to have the window open to breath but then the road keeps you awake (no aircon...). Weekends are *much* quieter. A link road between the port and the motorway was being built in 2007 and should be open in 2009 I'd think. This will take the trucks - which are the main problem - away from the hotel and should bring us back to the Hanseatic. Breakfast is fantastic by the way. Great choice and this is the standard we judge all other hotel breakfasts by! We booked this hotel with Grand City with a web deal they were offering called Hot Deals which gave us a comfort room for the same price as a standard double room. How we got there We flew with Ryanair and got a taxi from Bremen airport for 5 euro. It took about 5 mins. You can also get tram no6 (Universitaat) and get off 3 stops after aiport at Schleiermeicherstrasse. The tram stop is pretty much outside the hotel. Hotel We got to hotel about 10.15pm and a problem arose straight away. They had put us in a standard room instead of a comfort room based on the fact that we had paid the price of a standard through Grand City. They found it difficult to understand that we got a comfort room for the same price as a standard because of the web deal. We insisted that they put us in a comfort room but we had to wait until the following afternoon. We also asked to be put in a room away from the motorway but apparently all comfort room are at the back near the motorway despite the fact they are classed as quiet rooms. The rooms are clean and modern and quite spacious but not equipped at all. There is a kitchenette with 2 electric rings but you cant use them as there were no pans, crockery or cutlery for cooking. There was a microwave though. We asked the hotel to provide us with a kettle as there wasnt any facilities for brewing up either. We didnt have the breakfast as we thought it extortionately priced at 14 euros. We also went to try out the bar one night about 12.30 but they had shut even though its supposed to be open until 1am. Most of the staff are not very helpful with info about touristy stuff, everything seemed like too much trouble after our first night run in regarding the room. If you stay make sure you request a room overlooking the main road which I would class as the front and it has a better view. Location/Eating out Cant fault the location, the tram no6 runs literally outside the door into the centre. You can buy a short hop ticket for 1 euro that allows you to go 3 stops along from where you got on which is ideal for the centre and the airport. It took about 15 mins walking, passing the river and a few shops/bars. Make sure you visit the Schnoor section just after the 2nd bridge on your right. Lovely little streets with quaint houses, shops and bars. Also to try was an area called Das Viertal which you can get to by walking through Schnoor, more shops and bars. We found an excellent pub/restaurant called Schweinske there. It had loads of choice esp in pork dishes, the portions were huge but inexpensive and delicious. We had to fetch some of the meal back and they were happy to box it and provide you with a few fresh bread rolls too. If you like to try different beers, then try the Weissbier, Frank..something (soz cant remember fully). Its quite sweet and cloudy but not gassy. Travelling about We used the tram and also travelled to Hamburg and Bremerhaven by train. You can get a Neidersachen ticket for Hamburg which was 27 euro return but you can have upto 5 people travelling on the one ticket. You need to buy it from the machines at the train station (tram no6 also goes to it - Hauptbahnhof) otherwise it was 29 euros over the counter. if you like the coast, then Bremerhaven is worth a visit. This cost 24 euro return for 2 of us and took about an hour. It has a little beach, a viewing tower, museumships,u-boat and a great shopping area. It also has their version of that 7 star hotel in Dubai overlooking the sea. In hindsight, I think I would have preferred to stay here instead. Things to see/do There is a small museum just before you get off in the centre, through a gateway that has a sommergarten sign. It has mummified bodies on display!! Check out the Four Musicians statue near the town hall, and there was a market on the thurs around the town hall. You must try the icecreams as well, cheap with a range of gorgeous flavours (about 60-80 eurocents - 50p). All in all a nice break, shame about the hotel, we have paid less for more in the past. i have just come back from a 3 night stay in the Mecure hotel. it is correct what people have said, about there being 2 hotels with this name, the other being the Hotel Mecure Columbus by the train station. The columbus is slightly more expensive so we chose this one in stead. we thought it was great. the staff were very friendly and the hotel had everything we needed. it was in an ideal location only about 4 tram stops (i think) from the city centre. and the tram stop is just across the road. the hotel is by a busy road and if you have your window open it is noisy. so just close it! overall i really liked this hotel and i loved Bremen.

The breakfast is also masively overpriced as most of the stuff is already eaten if you arrive after 8.30am. Stayed for a night this August. The restaurant was closed, the room was small and stuffy, the shower room (no bath) was basic and somewhat neglected. Apparently there have been several thefts from autos, so I was told to bring all my bags in from the car. No nearby restaurants, and the surroundings charmless. Staff pleasant enough, though with an air of tiredness. Not entirely recommended. I don't know when this hotel was last decorated but it seems long overdue for some attention. My room was dirty and being on a busy road was noisy. I asked to change the room for one at the back but this was refused. The bathroom is very basic and no extras are provided. The corridors are narrow and public areas are very small with worn out carpets and like the room quite dirty. Lovers of kitch might like the tableau just inside the entrance from the rear car park which is a life size papier mache model of a fisherman mending his nets but looks like it might have been made by a nine year old. The fisherman theme is continued in the restaurant where there are nets and plastic fish and on every table there is a plaster model of a lighthouse contaning a candle - is this a warning ? Perhaps I had been spoilt because I had spent the previous two nights in a Crowne Plaza in nearby Hamburg for only 25 euros more and that was ultra clean, modern and luxurious.
