Gala has a nice location at playa de las americas, but it is a place for people who are 50+ and think that an Elton John imitator in the lobby bar is top entertainment. Waiters in the restaurant (boring food, altough it seems they try their best) are simply not interested in giving the customers the attention they deserve, and seemed more keen on leaving their job to hit the bars. You might blame the management for this since it seems to be a lack of proper training. I am 26 and came with my brother for a 4 night stay, and was happy with the stay had it not been for the fact that the people working there seem to live in 1985. We asked for wireless internet and not only did they not know what it was, but pretended that it was available from the room from a dial up number that of course never worked (ok, they had an internet room, but supposedly there in only one place in tenerife sur that offer wireless if you bring your own lap top). Neither was it appropriate to charge money to use the fridge that kept about 15 degrees. If I could choose again, I would gladly pay GBP 200 more and stay at the mediteranean palace which is goergeous and gives you a true feeling of being at a holiday resort. I feel that the hotel has too many amenities to give it only 3 stars, but it really is far from a luxury resort compared to other resports in Asia and South America. The breakfast is decent/good, but please skip the lunch and dinner and find a nice local restaurant (Banana Garden is excellent, even locals go there!) as the hotel buffet will bore you after one bite. Lastly, what hotel would charge you for using hotel towels by the swimming pool?

This is the fourth time I have stayed at this hotel and I love it! It is clean, the food is excellent and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The animator was brilliant, she really worked hard and the evening entertainment was varied and good. I have booked for next Easter already. I stayed at the Hotel Gala with my boyfriend for one week intending to have relaxing break and we enjoyed every minute of it! The reception staff were very helpful and friendly on arrival and throughout our stay! We stayed there on a bed and breakfast basis and found the choice at breakfast was of a good standard. A nice touch to the breakfast service was the live cooking, one of the chefs cooked fried eggs every morning. We ate in the hotel restaurant once during our stay and we were very impressed the hotel runs theme nights and on this particular night it was a mexican theme. The food was really nice the only downside was the dessert selection but if you like icecream the coconut icecream was especially nice. The rooms were of a good and comfortable standard and a safety deposit box is avaliable on request. We requested a sea view when booking our holiday, which was granted if you stuck your head out over the balcony! We ate at many restaurants while we were in las americas, we would reccommed 'THE LITTLE ITALLY' which is on the promonade towards Torviscos, this is a MUST for anyone who enjoys steaks and pasta! We were suprised how busy the resort was considering the time of year. The only point i will mention that might be useful to parents with young children is the the hotel is positoned on a street where there are alot of bars and the music went on until around 2 in the morning. We could hear the music in our room when we returned at about midnight. So parents should take this into consideraton. The beaches are nice in the las americas area however if you take a walk towards torviscos on the promonade you will come to some more comfortable (softer sand) and cleaner beaches! The habour is a must see its very pretty and the shops and the restaurants around this area are slightly nicer than that of las americas. I would certainly return to the Hotel Gala and would certainly reccommend it to any type of traveller including families. we recently stayed at this hotel in a family room with our 2 daughters aged 8 and 4.the hotel is lovely, very clean and tidy.our room was nice, great bathroom although shower not the best.cleaners very good, clean towels and beds made up every day.pools lovely really spaccous.sara the entertainmer very good with kids.we had a sea-view room and heard no noise whatsoever.the bad side of this hotel was the drinks are expensive.the entertainment at nite not great and often turn up late.it wasnt a huge problem but if yu are british you will be in a minority.this is well known in tenerife as a scandanavian hotel.so if your looking to make friends or have a chat this is not the right hotel.we cant wait to return to tenerife as its the best holiday we have had yet although we will stay in the toravicas area (which is to the right of the hotel and really is lovely) next time as more family orientated.also take your credit card or over enough money as in the centre can be expensive, if you go out a little further will find cheaper bars and restaurants.last thing is the loookie-lookie men who try to sell you jewellery, the hair braiding ladies, the chinese ladies who try to sell you toys that light up and the promotion workers be stern and say no. An outstanding hotel, great location, a overall fantastic holiday . All the staff were very friendly, very helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The pools were all non slip, the childrens pool excellent, very safe and child friendly, to be honest i was amazed. All the rooms were cleaned , fresh towels every day, even a supply of shower/shampoo, tissues, soap replaced when used. Food, WOW what a choice, differant menu's every day, it was very hard to choose what to eat, again fantastic, well cooked. There is a dress code when u eat your evening meal, but it seemed no one except us took any notice, well it was hot. Another good thing, is u need no money, just your keycard to buy drinks at the bars in the hotel. But some people hated this idea and u are landed with a bill at the end of your holday. I had an inland view on the 6th floor, it was a bit noisy, due to the disco and music from the bars across the road, but the hotel has thought this out very well, but putting 2 double glazed doors in, so no noise can be heard once the doors were shut. The sunbeds and mats are charged 1.90 euros a day for the useage, not bad. U can still use the sunbed with your own towels. No reserving of sunbed iare allowed, if u reserve your sunbed and go out for the morning your belonging will be gone by the time u get back. My overall holiday was fantastic, i will be going back there again in january. Went to the Gala with my boyfriend last December as a last minute get away hol. To be honest, we went with flat expectations of the hotel, as we had read some not-so-good reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel looked beautiful, inside and out, and there was no other hotel that we looked at in the main part of Playa that we would rather have stayed at. The hotel looks really grand when you walk in, and I loved the trailing plants that lined some of the ceilings and outside wall. Even in the Winter months there was beautiful pink flowers all over the front of the hotel. The staff were freindly, and didn't seem to mind when we fell in in the early hours of the morning. My boyfriend and I were the only ones brave (or stupid!) enough to go into the outside pool- which had no heating and so I presume is always freezing in the Winter months! Our rooms were spacious and neat, nothing to complain about. One night a light blew in our room, and the hotel sorted it immediately- great service. The hotel had a fantastic location- right round the corner from the beach and the strip- although you can't hear a thing from the clubs at night from the hotel rooms. To the right of the strip the beach is stunning- my boyfriend and I only discovered this when walking to the Aqua Park (approx.15 min walk)- we had always subconciously turned left after the strip, where they have a lovely bar overlooking the sea. The food at the Gala was much more varied than at other hotels I have stayed- each night they had a different nationality which they based their food on. We thought it was great, and there was always loads to choose from. The resturant staff were especially freindly- my boyfriend would have spent hours discussing football with them if I had let him! We would definitely return to the Gala, it's fantastic value for money, in a great location and there is nothing bad I can think of to say about it. I was at Gala sept 2006. Excellent hotel. The rooms were great, tidy , food was great, the pool was super. It is close to shops and close to the beach. The beach and the ocean were a big dissapoitment(it was all black because the sand was black). L'oro Park is a must. Also visit the waterpark on the island. We were very anxious about going here after reading some of the reviews. However, we were over the moon with the hotel, service, room, food - everything was just fabulous. The location is a bit daunting as it is directly opposite the Veronica's strip. However, the way the hotel is angled is clever, because you hear NOTHING from the strip! We have a daughter aged 2.5yrs & she was able to sleep soundly in her bed every single night. We loved it so much, we're looking to go back again in June!! We arrived at the Gala Hotel by Taxi and found a spotlessly clean reception area. We checked in and the concierge recommended we head straight to dinner as the restaurant was closing soon, we were meant to be there earlier but the flight had been delayed. This was good service from the reception staff as soon as we arrived and to be honest this level of service was maintained. Room: Our room was spacious and consisted of 2 single beds and a fold bed for our son. The bathroom was spacious to with plenty of toiletries, large bath, bide and loo. Room and bathroom were very clean. Pool Area: There are 3 pools in the Gala, 2 adult pools and one toddler’s pool. One of the adult pools was heated which made a big difference as the unheated one was like the artic ocean! A waiter would appear periodically with a drinks trolley and do a tour of the pool. Beside the pool is also a bar/snack bar serving drinks and fairly good quality lunches, there was also a buffet lunch available for 14 euro. Restaurant: Meals are served 0700 - 1030 and 1830 - 2130. Breakfast consisted of a contental buffet also sausages (German) bacon, eggs, toast, breads etc. There was plenty of choice and you can find lots for breakfast. Evening dinner was also served buffet style; each night had a theme, French, Chinese, Canarian, Arabic, and German. I personally enjoyed the food, but if you are a square eater and don't like to be adventurous you'll not find much variation. Entertainment: Firstly there are 3 free internet points to access your emails and check flights home etc, there are 3 playstation 2's for the kids, and also a large TV with a DVD on every night for the kids such as Madagascar. The Hotel Entertainers were both easy going fun Spaniards, great way with the kids and a good sense of Humor. In the evenings there was a mini disco for the children at 730pm, there was also jewelry stalls set up and other items for sale each evening. At around 9pm the main show was on, every night a different show, acrobats, a very funny Charlie Chaplin, flamenco dancing, live band etc. In the day time there was bowls (French Style on Gravel), air rifle contest, children’s club, water aerobics, fashion shows, sub aqua diving, shuffle board and few others I can’t recall. The hotel is well situated about 5 mins walk to the beach and at night was very quiet with no lager louts. I would say the average age in Feb was about 65, and there was only about 4 British Families there, but everyone was very friendly, lots of Germans Italians and Swedish. I definitely will visit the Gala again, great value great hotel top marks! I have read some reviews on this hotel and think that I must have been staying in a different world !! This place was superb !! The food was fantastic. If you cannot find something to eat at night then you must be bulimic!! If you can afford it ,then get the twin superior rooms.Included in this package is a free mini bar ,bath robes, sea and pool view (the cheaper rooms seem to face a wall), and free pool towel and sunbed pads . Evening entertainment is the usual nonsense, but then after you have had dinner it was nice to take a walk .All the hotels seem to have the same entertainment. So what's new !! We want to go back again next year. Can't wait !! This is a great hotel right amonst all the bars and nightlife. The restaurant is buffet style and plenty of choice for everyone, we have had better, but still its good enough and we will go back. The rooms are quite large with excellent bathroom and nice balcony, we opted for a seaview and were pleased we did. The noise is not a problem due to double balcony doors, at least in the seaview rooms, the bars and nightlife go on till 4.30am but never bothered us at all. There were not many Brits in the Hotel, lots of Germans and Italians and Spanish of course, but we didn't see it as a problem and the staff were very good. We kept our room on the last day and it was just 30 euros! A bargain we thought. The swimming pool was so clean and no problem for beds, at least in June, although a charge of 1.90 euros per bed is made for using hotel towels and cushions, which are free on subsequent stays. All in all we will definitely go back, even if only for free towel and cushion usage. We are a "young" 50 year old couple who do like Tenerife and recommend this hotel to old and young alike. The hotel gala is one place i would always go back to as this was my 12th time there i really enjoyed it there is very pleasent staff, enjoyable food and loads more as you may have to pay for quite alot of stuff i think it is worth it. The wheather was great but on some days it was a bit windy and one thing to enjoy even more is that every night at around eight there is show they are always magnificent. I hoipe every one else who has travelled there has had the same experince as me! My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Gala with our four month old daughter. We were very pleased with the hotel. The public areas, swimming pools and restaurant were beautifully maintained, the food was very good and the bars reasonably priced. The hotel was centrally located , although a little too close to the scruffy Veronicas bar complex. The staff were helpful and friendly and there was plenty of entertainment, although this was aimed more at middle-aged/elderly people. All in all this was an excellent hotel and we would like to return. Just spent 3 nights at the Gala Hotel in Tenerife, Fenruary 2005. The main reason why I have rated this hotel as excellent has to do with the dinner buffet and the excellent high quality entertainment available at the hotel every night. Out of the 3 hotels that I have stayed in in Tenerife the dinner buffet was the best out of all of them. The hotel is located next to a nice beach and there are lots of shopping areas surrounding the hotel. The pool area (one warm pool and one cold pool) is also very attractive with a large number of sun chairs are available. However, you have to pay for your pool towels and the cushion to put on the sun chair. The only complaint that I had about the hotel is its location close to Las Veronics. Depending on what side f the hotel you stay on you can hear the music from these clubs all night long. As well the view unless you are facing the ocean/pool area is very unappealing. Given the price payed for this hotel in this area the hotel does offer good value for your money. The Hotel Gala was perfect for a relaxing Holiday. The rooms and all facilities were immacculate and entertainment was of the highest calibre. My partner and I found the staff to be both friendly and helpful and we are looking forward to returning again Just returned from 10 days in the Hotel Gala Tenerife. Researched independently on the web, including flights. Hotel is excellent, definately rates a 4*+. Very welcoming reception, fast check-in and delivered to room. Room very spacious with excellent sea-view, all balconies inside and out festooned with creeping and hanging plants. No problem with noise at all as all rooms are double/double glazed. Food all buffet style but superb with so much choice you just didn't know where to start, even Champagne for breakfast on Sundays. Highly recommended 10 out of 10. Stayed at the Gala for one week. The hotel itself was comfortable and a high standard of cleanliness. We booked a club Alexander room that overlooked the two pools and the sea. I wouldn't recommend some of the lower ground rooms unless you want to look at a brick wall. Included was a large complimentary fruit basket, robes, slippers, water and a wide array of toiletries. The hotel is well located within the resort and within half hour walk to either Los Christanos or Costa Adeje if you feel like a change of scenery and near to the nightlife although sometimes bar promoters and lucky lucky men were a nuisance but after all they are only doing a job. I agree with other reviews the food is abit hit or miss and not four star standard and we are not fussy eaters. There were no vegetables at dinner except frozen mixed with rice. The salad bar was maybe pate one night or fish (baby eels and octopus). The restraunt staff appeared efficient but not very friendly. The cleaning and reception staff were fine. All drinks, sunbed pad/towel charged to your room card which you settle at the end of your stay. There are two pools one being heated. Both looked as if they had been recently refurbished. The heated pool had a spongy floor nice and soft on your feet. No problem getting a sunbed and brolly. Good activities and facilities for young children. Next to the hotel is Fitzgeralds a great irish bar with a resident duo who could play and sing most songs from Dire Straits to rock and of course irish songs, well worth a visit. The hotel has a spa but thought £65 for a massage a bit steep. rooms spotless and smelt fresh, although beds extremely hard.we could not fault the food so much to choose from, the only problem we found was any drinks we had at the pool bar we had to hand over our room key card so everything we had was charged to our room and the same thing happened in the dining room at evening meals,so we had no idea how much our drinks cost until we checked out of the hotel,i must admit it was good not to carry money to the pool etc but it would have been far easier to keep tabs on our bill had we been given reciepts for our drinks. i must agree with other reviws the staff on reception are not very welcoming and rarely smile .the cleaners work very hard and are always smiling .we thought we would hear noise from the clubs at night but there was no problem at all.really enjoyed our stay . It was very nice,do not believe all that people who some of them(Sariettenorway stayed in best Tenerifeand commented for Gala!!!!)...it is a nice hotel, very well placed with nice people.Food wasexcellent, location the best possible close to the beach, centre and also to the Highway. Please believe it was some of my best I ever seen, but you have to be careful and to check your room...discuss at the reception when you check in. Have a nice holiday! I stayed some nights only in a single usage double room. My good points are definitively for - restaurant with a large buffet, very good quality of food, always with vegetables, meat, fish, different sauces, desserts, ... - cleanliness - out-services provided (car rent, excursion) - free internet and free wifi (if you have your laptop or other wifi device) My neutral points are for - situation: well situated (5min walk from beach and promenades), near bars, pubs, restaurant, car rent offices,... but maybe TOO close of that bars. All room in front are quite noisy the night. However the double-door system at terrass is diminishing the problem. My bad points (unfortunately) - except of 2 waiters/waitress, the staff is really not smiley. However they stay helpful but straight. At the outside bar they are quite slow except of the team leader who is a very dynamic and nice guy. Well. I enjoyed my stay anyway. The pool is nice and big enough for everyone and animation the night are very good! Large room, plenty of light&view (thanks to the travel agency). But check your room! Large pool, yet not enough sunbeds for all guests (free of charge). Great vulcano view from the pool. Great hotel restaurant, lots to choose from. Go for Breakfast&Dinner package, and eat anything you can from fish to pork to salads. Average cofee, though. The walk to the beach is 10 min. Dark sand (volcano rock), funny on wet feet. Sunbeds on the beach are costly if paid on daily basis. Not much to do for a couple (be it married or not). Bars and restaurants empty till 10 P.M. (when mainly British youngsters crowd in). Live bands entertaining. Not quite lively though ... Kids, beware: it's a steep-streeted resort. A 5 minute-walk away from your hotel could mean a painful uphill ride back. Playa is all about going up and down. Cheap shopping. I mean CHEAP. The island's tax free, and every little shop lures you with special offers. Do not bring on the island beach/summer/travel clothes or cosmetics. It's half the price in Tenerife. Plus free gift. Bring extra bag instead. Rent a car, go north. Highway included. More shopping. Beautiful small towns to discover. Great seaside or inland places to eat and relax. Go for local meals. Or wine, if you like. Photographers will love the light. I did. Never forget to drink twice the amount of water/liquid you use to. You're practically in Africa, look at the map. Enjoy, Cris Leon A very good hotel in an excellent location as there are a number of bars and eateries right across the street - We favoured Murphy's Irish Bar where Adrian entertained us nightly. The bar staff are also friendly and efficient. As for the Gala - we went half board and both the breakfast and the evening meal are buffet style with plenty to choose from. The quality of the food was good. There is nightly entertainment at the Gala. The hotel has 2 pools and a kids pool. The pools are open 10:00 to 18:00 so peace and quite is maintained when you most want it. The hotel also has a gym and games room, pool tables and free Internet access in the lobby. We stayed in hotel Gala the week before Christmas and I must say - after reading some of the reviews here I wasn't really sure, what to expect. So it was nice surprise, that the hotel was lovely, clean, staff really nice and helpfull and location just perfect! It is true, that it's not new hotel and you can see it, but there was definitely more pluses then minuses. Pools are clean, food good, especially diners. Breakfasts could do with more variations, but we still loved it. We didn't rent car from hotel, but still didn't have to pay for parking in garage:-) And bar staff is great (especialy Manolo), we wanted to go out every night, but they were so funny and we got so many free drinks, that we went out just once! And if you are there, go to the Bee Gees Revival, they are really good and after three coctails absolutely amazing!!! Never hade more fun, even though I'm not their fan:-)) My wife and I stayed here for a week in mid July and had a great time. From what we saw we were the only americans at the hotel. In fact we didn't see any other americans anywhere not that it was a problem. Everyone we talked to was very friendly and helpful. The pool area was great and it never seemed crowded. With the beach a short walk away it was understandable. The food was good and there were a lot of choices for breakfast and dinner. We were half board so we ate lunch while we were out exploring the island. My only problem with the hotel was the ac in the room. Ours did not work very well. To the hotels credit, when we ask the hotel about it they sent someone right away to look at it. We figured out that it was cooler to just open the doors at night. We had a great view of the pool and the sea. The location was perfect. All the bars and clubs were right outside the hotel. My wife and I would start with dinner at the hotel then head out to enjoy the nightlife so I can't comment on the hotel entertainment. It was a great trip and we can not wait to go back. Hotel Gala - 4* (May 2007) We have just returned from this hotel in Tenerife and i must say it was very very nice, very clean, well presented, spacious and the food was exceptional, we could not fault the hotel quality or standards at all. The hotel is located right across the road from many many clubs/nightlife, so if your a party goer you will be well situated staying at this hotel as all nightlife is within short walking distance. Despite the fact that the hotel is so close to all the the clubs you will not be disturbed if you choose to have an early night as the hotel rooms have double glazed/soundproof patio doors. The shops were fantastic to visit selling very fashionable clothing and footwear for cheap. There are many sellers on the street but just say no thankyou and they will not harrass you. However, if you do choose to purchase from them don't be afraid to HAGGLE as they want the sale more than you probably need the item. There are so many restaurants and places to eat near the hotel that you will be spoilt for choice if you choose to eat out. The weather is hot with some mild wind in areas, which helps if you have been in the sun and getting hot and bothered. Overall nice place to visit as you have the option of making your holiday either a relaxed and chilled out one or a busy one by getting out and about. Maxine (West Midlands) We are simply baffled by some of the negative comments about Hotel Gala hotel and wonder if the writers were staying at the same hotel . My wife and I spent a week at Hotel Gala (23 March - 30 March 2006)and it was great. I have spent 25+ years travelling on busines throughout Europe staying at 4 and 5 star hotels and I can assure you that I have never stayed in a friendler cleaner hotel than the Gala and what's more it's about half the price of most north European hotels. Sure the Gala doesn't have an a la carte restaurant or but who needs one with the huge and superb range of food on offer at the self service buffet here. The bedrooms are a bit minimalist but are, as is the rest of the hotel, spotless. The Gala is a haven of tranquility from the busy surrounding areas and is that rare thing - a modern hotel with character. If you stay there you will not be disappointed. Here are a five tips 1. Go half board - it cost very liitle more, the food is great and exceptional value for money. We eat out 3x but the meals didn't compare with the hotel buffets 2. Best rooms are those on the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors with pool AND seaview. Some seaview only rooms are on the back of the hotel and can be a little noisy if you sleep with the double glazed balcony doors wide open. 3. If you have a hire car reserve a space in the under hotel garage. Parking in the street outside is difficult. The garage is secure and costs EU14 (£10)per week. 4. Buy your G & T or whatever at the little supermarket next door and store in the free of charge room fridge. It makes plenty of ice and does not run at 15 degrees as some other reviewer stated. 5. If you decide to stay around the pool for a day, eat from the BBQ. You get a vast range of starters, main courses and desserts for EU11.50 (£8.25) far better quality and cheaper than you get in the surrounding restaurants.
What to expect Rooms 4 Service 5 Value 5 Cleanliness 5 Pool Recommendations 5 families with small children - looks good - not much to do for 11 - 18 year olds seniors 5 couples and romantics 4 singles 5 honeymooners - adequate What a plesant surprise! The hotel is well located in the main hub of PDLA's. On Arrival you will be impressed by its spacious lobby and welcoming staff. We were allocated room 123 which is located in the he west wing. Whilst we did not have a sea view/pool view we looked out to a pleasant garden area that afforded you peace and privacy during the day, although if you sat out in the balcony at night you did have to endure the entertainment noise from the next hotel. This never ran past 11.00pm, so it was no great hardship, and did not disturb your sleep if you were an early bedder as the room has double-double glazed patio doors The room itself was spacious bright and immaculately clean (the domestic staff kept it that way throughout our visit) doors The pool areas were of a similar standard and had an added bonus of having some glorious separate sunbathing areas that were a tranquil haven. For 2/3 euros per day you could get a lovely matress and large beach towel from the poolside. Children had there own special water area that was an adventure playground in water. It had slides, waterfalls etc and in a safe secure area. The food was a delight. A feast to suit all. Well presented and tasted just as good. The hotel staff were first class. Hotel has a full programme of entertainment but being so close to the heart of PDLA we chose to go out every night after dinner. At the height of the British summer season this hotel only had a handfull of Brit visitors. This was a bonus for us. No badly behaved families or Football shirts to be seen!! A great hotel.............You will not be disappointed. I disagree with the other review which said there was no problem with noise. Our room had a 1cm gap under the door which meant you heard all conversations in the hallway like they were in your room. Also the sound proofing between rooms is terrible so we had to listen to some poor couple argueing next door. Worst is that many rooms are over the entertainment area (loud music until 00.00hrs) or facing the bars on the street (music til early morn). Other than that the food is great; main entertainment area is very leafy and looks like the scene in the Bond movie (Moonraker?) with the little bridge that opens up to slide Bond into the piranhas; receptionists were all fluent in English/German; rooms and public areas clean; parrot show funny; cocktail piano every evening; internet access hardly ever working; gym well equipped but too many kids messing around in it; no heating in rooms so expect to freeze in January; nice balconies with plants and furniture and handy mini-clothes lines. The nearby beach was cleaned daily and great for swimming if you like the black sand and can avert your eyes as you walk through the awful, tacky environs to get to it. Count your blessings with black sand though- we went to Playa Duque and although the golden sand looks great, it really hurts your feet because of all the gritty bits added to it. I went to Hotel Gala it was fantastic but i even found one cockroach in my room. Hotel Gala is a 4 star hotel. I wonder what the cockraoch problem is like with the cheaper hotels ? Saying this i would go back to hotel gala. the food was good they had nice pool surruondings it was very clean the beach wasnt as good as other places i had been it was black sand.the hotel staff was very friendly and their was lots of germans. the entertainment was quite good. their is lots of landscape gardens and big spacious swimming pools. any queries contact me I worked in Tenerife in 1990 and at the time, the Gala was one of the better hotels alongside the Vulcano, Bitacora, Torviscas ...... Going back there on 20/12, the hotel looked as though it hadn't been updated since 1990 ! Although rooms are spacious, main areas bright, pool excellent with a good outdoor bar area, everything looked so tired and dated including the weird 50's brass sculpture over the stage area in the main lounge. Stayed for b and b so can't comment on evening meals, but breakfast was very average - not kept warm on hot plates and toast maker took 3 trips around the elements to brown the bread ! Plus points are location near Veronicas if you're 18, pool area, free spa use, daily maid service. If you're looking for 4 star accom there's much better out there that can be easily found for the same money as Gala. Location is quite tacky, near Veronicas, worst part of Las Americas really... quite dirty and noisy. Hotel common areas are very clean and elegant. The room is a bit of a let down, very plain, nothing special about it. Cean though. The entertainment was awful The day actvities rarely happened as scheduled and didn't last for long. The entertainer seemed more interested in PR than in keeping people entertained. Night shows quite precarious too. Best thing about this hotel was the food. Great variety. Congratlatons to the chef/s. Overall, average hotel. I doubt i would go back since there are much better hotels in Tenerife for similar prices. We made our second visit to the Gala in May, having been impressed with our first visit, but the experience this time was much poorer. The choice of food on the first two nights was a little disappointing, and once or twice, the staff attending the tables were a little slow to move dirty crockery - my wife on one occasion moved our dirty plates to a vacant table, and when the girl eventually came to clear them, she said something in Spanish which we didn't quite catch! We have a 7 year old daughter, and one of the main reasons we go is the children's entertainment, which was spot on as usual, and she also makes a lot of use of the excellent pools. Unfortunately, on our last night, whilst trying to find out if we could keep our hotel room as we had a late flight, one of the reception desk staff was very rude and ignorant, and as we left, when we told him we needed a big taxi as there were 3 adults and 1 child, he just said, "You get whatever the taxi firm send"! What a jerk - you need calm, understanding professionals on the front desk, not dickheads like the guy (bald head). Niggles aside, we will probably go again! Arrived early hours of 13th, quick and easy to check in. Got the room, went to it first notable thing was it was quite small (for 3 people) and stank did so throughout holiday but after air freshner, open doors...not much of an issue. No view or no sun on balcony, that was a bit disappointing. room TV only had CNN and Sky news as UK channels Asked to be upgraded (offered to pay) however turns out rooms are all the same size, plus they had no spare rooms so had to stay put. Breakfasts were good, several serving areas, however constant lack of glasses for juice, and table settings made it a bit of a chore waiting for things (I did go and get cutlery from a drawer and a waiter said that was his job) Pool Area was good, although upper areas had no safety barrier at the edge making it a risk for young kids. Didn't realise at the time, but you pay for use of towels/lounger mats, that costs about 5 Euros per day for 3. outside bar was a bit of a chore, they never had change or seemed not to see you standing there. The kids play area was great, one of the best I've seen Entertainment through day and evening was good, beatles tribute band, reptile show, circus acts. Through day the animacion team were good Hotel gave free Internet access, but with 3 PCs meant it was popular and some guest tended to be on there all the time (some holiday that!) Good Gym facilities, several pool tables, playstation 3's so something for everybody Hotel is located in good location for the beach, bars, shops, restraunts, however as like most areas bar, timeshare People out to get your custom and quite a number of hawkers with fake watches and sunglasses. Within 2 mins walk is pharmacy, Mcdonalds, Burger king, Supermarket, Bars so well located. Hotel can organise excursions, and in checking about their prices were same as anybody else's so ended up booking through the hotel instead of tour operator etc. No option for late check out, hotel was fully booked, Some staff could do with training in customer awareness etc, never smiled and everything was a problem. overall, was a good hotel, let down by the room we got and attitudes of some staff We have stayed in this hotel for 14 days in july 2007. It has been awarded with 4 stars but according to my expirience it is much closer to 3 and a half. Simply because some of the hotel parts are quite old. The staff( receptionists, maids and waiters) are very friendly and polite . Some of the waiters are not Spaniards and do not speak good english, but with their will for work we got managed to understand each other what we want!!!! The food for breakfast is accpetible but after 5-6 days it starts to be kind of boring because they do not change much of the menu. It is Buffet and there is enough of coffee and juice . The dinner is very good, there are many types of food and every night there is a different cuisine choosen for the main dish (Chinese, Italian, Spanish, continental,American......) . Try the fish it is always very well prepared. The bad thing is that you have to pay for the drink for the dinner and it is quite expensive (draft beer is 4 EUR/400ml which is the same as in the bars at night) . There are 3 pools but we haven't been there much ,since the beach is 3-4 minutes walking ........ no reason for pool when you have the beach so close. There is a large garage down and if you rent a car from the agency which has desk in the hotel lobby ,the parking place is free. Otherwise you have to pay for your place. All in all it is older hotel , but it is very well operated and cleaned so I will give it 3 and half *. Veronicas is very close but there are 2 sliding doors to every balcony so you will surely not here any of the noise coming form the bars . We were 4 girls in our mid 40s and we were amongst the youngest people there! Very few English there. Mainly German. Were initially disappointed with the room as we had paid extra for a sea view (just about!) we asked to move rooms but staff were most unhelpful and after much badgering did offer us another one which over looked the pool area! We stayed put. Yes you do have to pay extra for fridge, safe and for towels and mattresses for the sunbeds! Never heard of that one in a hotel before. Food was good I thought but I agree with some of the other coments that the staff were at best unhelpful at times, although 2 of the restaurant staff tried their best. Not sure about the entertainment as we never stayed in the hotel at night. We used it as a base only and were more than satisfied on that score and have in fact booked this hotel again for March 07. I think if you expect your holiday to be mainly hotel based then book a better one. We (a group of 13) stayed at the gala, nice hotel, good location and excellent wheelchair access but the food was not 4 star stantard and we found the staff sometimes rude and unhelpful but the cleaning staff and pool attentant where very nice. Sun loungers where scarce even though it was not high season and food was very repeatative. But just to the left of the hotel literally 2 minutes was an Irish bar called Christy O'Connor's which had the best live band we had ever heard called Murphy's Mis Fitz the staff where very friendly and helpful and owner was a brilliant guitarist and singer along with the 2 other members of the band (a must do) to be avoided at all cost the Brazenhead across the street from Christy's, an irish bar but only in name, Stevie D was one of the most ignorant and boring would be preformer, can't understand why an irish bar would have an english entertainer who very obviously doesn't like the irish, the one and only night we went he emptied the bar completely wih his insults and comments. On a more positive note 3 great restaurants would be the Banana Garden, Tony Roma's and Sugar and Spice which had great food and even better service and reasonably priced (don't forget to tell them it's yor birthday, champagne all round) all in all a good holiday and we would definitely return to the island.

As the holiday was for my 60th birthday we decided to push the boat out, and not go for the usual cheapest late deal we could get, which in all fairness have all been better than this. The total cost of the holiday was just under £2500 and a four star hotel so we assumed that we would receive four star treatment. On arrival we had requested a sea view, we were looking onto the Wigan Pier pub, if you leaned as far to the left as you possibly could you could get a glimpse of the sea, When we questioned the sea view we were told it was only a request and this doesn't mean you will get one. This we decided to tolerate to begin with until we realised the balcony roof went out further than the balcony, and hence received no sun at all. We requested a kettle in the room and for this privelidge we were charged 28 euros, which to me is pretty steep. The use of a hotel towel for the pool is a cost of 1.95 euros per day so if you happen to be a family of four on holiday for two weeks this is going to cost you 109.20 euros for two weeks, a lot of money for towels. The food although there was a variety given each breakfast and evening, very little that the british holiday makers would enjoy. this was served luke warm and if you were not in the dining room at the begining of the service which was from 6.30-9.30 invariably what had been worthwhile eating, had all finished the cleanliness of the hotel could not be faulted, and the domestic staff were excellent.. The rest of the staff on the whole were helpful, but very few could understand what we were saying except for the reception. the entertainment was barely passable, It is certainly not a hotel to reccomend to british tourists as you will possibly be the only british staying in there at any one time. During the time we were there we only had one drink from the bar, half a lager and a whiskey and coke 8 euros. Another couple had pasta and a beefbuger and 2 drinks at lunch time and this came to a total of 32 euros.. On speaking to various holiday makers we discovered that most hotels had a variety of tv programmes, the gala consists of CNN news and euro sport, not that you want to watch tv, but it is nice to listen to the news occassionally, we were told they were having problems with the system, but two weeks later it had not been sorted. Overall I would rather spend half the money on a holiday as in my opinion what you spend doesn;t mean to say you will get better service. i have been revisiting tenerife for the past 10 years after spending many holidays there with my parents. I had booked to stay in the la siesta hotel but unfortunatly the hotel had over booked and i was put in the gala a week before depature . (these things happen). I have never read reviews on a hotel before but decided to and was unsure what to expect with different opinions . i just want to start by saying if you visit this hotel time after time then you have obviouslty not stopped in the proper hotels i have such as h10 conqistador , tenerife princes (best hotel), santiago 3, bahia princess , la nina , gyuamimina etc you can stop at all these for around the same price !!!! Any way my experince!! Arrived at hotel @ 1am with 2 children in prams fast asleep with 4 suit cases (between 4 adults & 2 1 year old children) no porter to help you to room .. enter rooms (very small) with no cots ... waited 30 mins finially arrived .... opened balcony door only to see that we are on the main strip dont get me wrong im a 25 year old lad who likes to be in the centre of it but this took the pi** as we had to young children. I did not have a good night sleep for 10 nights as my balcony door vibrated with the music till 6-7am every night !! when i comfronted the desk i was basically told the hotel is full you ll have to make do !!! The staff in this hotel did not even crack a smile apart from one very friendly waiter . As for the staff at the front desk i have never met people as moody and un helpful in all my life. The food well :-( this was very very dissapointing i ended up having to eat out every day and night i have eat at places all round the world and i would not even class this as food !!!! as for the service you had your dirty staters plates , main course plates and desert plates all stacked up very very slow !! we even had to approch the staff to get a drink !!! having to pay for towels and sun bed matts round the pool !! whats all that about might only be 1.90 euro each but x that by 4 over 10 days and hey presto another 76 euro on your bill !!!! the entertainment during the day was ok water polo shooting etc but at night time there was nothing that i found entertaining and was all in different language !! anyway could go on about bad points out all day the fact is this is a lovley hotel spotless and tidy but everything else lets it down it is not an english bases hotel and is not in any of english broches... i think its just a get of jail hotel for some travel angents when hotels are over booked or cancel!! the hotel did not spoil our first family holiday abroad and i will be returning to tenerife but this hotel will defo be a no no hope this all helps !!!!! arrived with a bad back ,wife and 2 children (under 4) 2xsuitcases 3xhand luggage 2xprams and were was the porters no were they dont have them this is a large hotel!! reason for staying at this hotel was the heated pool ,what heated pool?? i tried to find all week to no avail not enough bar/restraunt staff in day time (probably because you use your room card and not cash so very few tips. We stayed in the Gala at the beginning of May 2007. Although the hotel is a beautiful hotel and very close to the local amenities bars, clubs, shops and beaches the staff in the hotel left alot to be desired. The hotel occupants were predominantly German and Spanish in the whole of the hotel there were only a handful of british holiday makers. We found the staff to be very surly and off handish. It appears that only the reception staff spoke english so if you required anything a bit different from the restaurant or the pool bar or lounge bar the waiters just shrugged their shoulders tutted and walked away. I have worked in hotels in the Lake District and would never treat any guest with the contempt that the staff at this hotel treated us. It was as if it was some huge effort to serve us and never once did any of the waiting on or bar staff smile. Towards the end we began to feel like second class citizens and began to dread going to the bar (quite often i was ignored and others were served before me) and restaurant. I would not recommend this hotel to any of my friends or family, The hotel was spacious and modern, with numerous bars. Entertainment was pretty poor (local jugglers and musical chairs)which for some reason the Italian/German guests seemed to enjoy. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was served buffet style and after about the third day craved for some decent grub as all very bland and samey. One had to pay extra for the safe deposit box, mattresses and towels for the pool and the gym was full of old tired kit.The hotel shop was well stocked and a supermarket right next door ( so can fill the mini bar up) Our room was on level 0 ( Basement) which meant no light and no view from the balcony, which didn't matter as the door was jammed and couldn't get out there. The room was a long walk from the lifts, suggest one gets a room above level 3 The hotel is opposite a load of tacky burger bars and pubs and in the evening one had to run the gauntlet of lads/ladetts trying to push you into their establishments. If your room overlooks the main road would be rather noisy as right outside is where the taxi's seem to drop off the "kids" Some good bars up the road including a jazz club with live music, the Irish bar on the same side as the hotel had a great father & son band. All in all pretty average Gala has a nice location at playa de las americas, but it is a place for people who are 50+ and think that an Elton John imitator in the lobby bar is top entertainment. This hotel is absolute terrible. We had ordered and paid for a room with view over the pool or sea. We got a room with a view over an old dry canal with a lot of garbage in . Well they changed that one. The next room was told with pool view. Yes if I stood up , lent over the rail on the balcony I could see the pool. But what we did see was the chimney to the barbecue house there just in front of us . And you can imagine the smoke and smell from that one. But the smell could not be compared to what came in the night. Pure waste water smelling like you stood down in a waste water well. From about 1 o`clock in the night you could not have your balcony door open and absolutely don't sit out. I told theme about it , but nothing was done. I can say that absolutely non of the staff at this hotel can smile. Except one man in the reception. Absolute every other person working there was not service minded at al. Just an example an old English lady stood in the pool bar ordering tee and asked to just borrow a tray who now one used . He answered quite angry, "no, this is only for the waiters. But there was no waiters there. So I helped her carrying it. I stood at lunch taking something from the barbecue and accedently put down the fork they had to get things with on wrong place, and he almost yelled at me. "cant you see that this is the wrong place to put it, don't you understand that the food gets dry if the lock is not on place .................... " (the food was dry anyway. ) Every where if you asked for something , you got a short answer without any help in. I have never in my life been in a hotel where the service was so poor. I travel about 120 - 150 days pr year. So I do try many different hotels . Do not waist your holiday on this one. The food was also very boring. Not much to choose from . And the same everyday. The bufè they call breakfast is so small that you ends up with egg and bacon. Bacon who is not even roasted properly only dry from the oven. And the scrambled eggs was , well I don't know how I can descirbe it. The water in the pool who was told warmed up, was so cold that my children did not want to bath there. And they are used to Norwegian temperatures. The difference between the pool they said was heated and the other was minimal. I can guess that it maybe was about 16-17 degrees in the cold one and 18 -19 in the warmed up. The distance to the beach is about 10 minuets walk or you can walk on about 5 minutes, going through the hotel in some "backyard stairs " where you absolutely don't want to go alone. They write that this one is perfect located to the center of playa de Las Americas , but there is at least 30 hotels better located to Centrum than this is. No one helping you with your luggage when you arrive, we had to wait for one hour extra after check in to get the room . No changing on sheets for three nights . We left after three days, since we was able to get us another hotel, Best Tenerife , cheaper and much much better, nice rooms, nice pools , nice staff, nice food, . Everything was 100% nicer. For example the staff recognized you and asked how you where when you came to breakfast and so on. Small things who makes it so much more comfortable. So use your money on some other place. The photograph who has taken this picture has been very very good. It doesn't look like this at al. Even my children asked for me to get another hotel. So try Best Tenerife or La Siesta. We tried to get a room at the La Siesta but it was not available any. But we had a look at it. So this is absolutely a very good hotel. Both Best Tenerife and La Siesta is very good placed. Just to walk out to shops, restaurants and not fare to beach. Pitty that they run the hotel as they do. I cant understand the leading of this hotel. Dont they want to earn money. It could have been a nice hotel stay on if the managment was running it properly. It could have been a 4 start , but how its now, no more than 2 stars. Boring food, rooms on the first and the second floors are like a celler, cold, wet and there are COCKROACHS... Sorry... We chose this hotel because of generally positive comments but this hotel can't be recommended for most British visitors. The problems were: The food - you had the feeling they tried but many of the dishes were strange (e.g. chicken in a rich chocolate sauce) or not kept hot. The rooms - most of them seem to face north and although we paid extra for a sea view you really needed to be a giraffe. Try asking for a pool view instead, this should give a better view of the sea as well. The clientel - nothing wrong with our continental cousins but many people like to hear the occasional British voice, there are very few Brits at this hotel. The area - actually its very centrally located for las Americas and about 200 yards from sea but the surrounding roads are dug up for modernisationand getting around is tricky for less mobile visitors. Not the fault of the hotel though. On the positive side the sun beds are good and plentiful, however you pay daily for mattress and towels. Overall, very disappointing I couldn't rate it Okay so the only other option was Terrible. went here for christmas 2006 have been to tenerife many times but this was not good. the staff were rude even to the children it is a german hotel and they only catered for the germans the pool towels are not free and we were charged for a lunch time meals on the day we arrived and we didn get there til 8 at night so please please check you bill would not go back they ever again it spolit our christmas there was ten of us so they were not happy when we wanted a table for ten every night going to the island for easter but going back where we like island village Sorry for my english, this is not my main language. I know well Tenerife island and this is my 3th travel there (i'm a big traveler, I saw more than 25 country at this day). I'm staying with my girlfriend at the hôtel Gala for 10 days (i'm 33 and gf 26 yo). First : everything cost money in this hotel, nothing included, charge for electronic safe, charge for pool towel (!), charge for using minibar (it's better to buy your own drink from the supermarket), when you arrive the minibar are empty (also nobody has cleaned our glass during 10 days !). Then we pay charge for a seaview room (front of swimmingpool), unfortunatly Tenerife have some windy days, the wind coming inside the room with all the windows closed (at night you have 15 degree...), so my girlfriend need to sleep with a lot of clothes during the night, not very funny. The hôtel is not more than 3 stars (cheap design, cheap components, cheap service, impossible to have a a fresh orange juice at Bar pool. Every morning the noise are soo big than we wake up 10 times from 6am to 9am (noise from group of spanish customer speaking without respect for other sleeping customer, noise from staff cleaning other room, noise from child playing inside the hôtel, noise from staff doing repair inside the hôtel room early morning) Loby staff very rude/arrogant, food horrible in lunch or dinner. So take your chance to another hôtel like "Jardin Tropical" my best experience in Tenerife or the brand new hôtel "Abama" who look amazing, and didn't cost much more when you pay charge for everything in Gala.
