5 of 5  Amazing spot with everything we needed, A TripAdvisor Member, Calgary, June 23, 2009

Have stayed at the Delta Kananaskis a few times now (in winter and summer), and will continue to visit annually. Located in quaint village of Kananaskis, it's 1 of 2 hotels available. Dog-friendly hotel (a must for us) with decent indoor pool, fitness centre, indoor/outdoor hot tub, and many great restaurants and shops. Stayed in a suite most recently which had a giant bedroom with large jacuzzi and separate TV/living room, perfect for the kid(s) and dog. Speaking of kids, expect a lot of them to be staying in the hotel during most times of the year.

Not a lot 'to do' per se in the village, but if you're into hiking, biking, skiing, etc., it's a great spot to be at any time of year. Friendly and very helpful staff too.

5 of 5  Spectacular in Every Respect!, A TripAdvisor Member, Seattle, WA, June 15, 2009

Only the view from our balcony surpassed the friendly and efficient service we received during our stay. This was definitely one of the most pleasant vacations we've ever experienced!

5 of 5  Magnificent Place to Visist, A TripAdvisor Member, sanford, June 2, 2009

The Delta Lodge was a beautiful and relaxing place to visit that I would highly recommend. The staff mostly young people were very helpful in every way. The pool, giant hot tub, sauna and steam room are great along with the massages. The room with the loft was very roomy and the beds were very comfortable. There were not many activities since this was off season but there was still plenty to do if you like the outdoors. The scenery in this whole area is just as beautiful as the adjacent parks. Food was good but expensive but enjoyed the outside pub for light eating. The new casino is nice but for me very tight. Still alot of work to be done but it had just opened.

Overall my wife and I enjoyed everything about this trip and our experience at the hotel.

5 of 5  Breathtaking., A TripAdvisor Member, Ontario, May 20, 2009

I went to Kananaskis for a conference in December of 2006. It was an amazing experience all made better thanks to the AWESOME staff. On the way from Calgary, the shuttle picked us up at the junction and I dropped my bottle of Grappa in the middle of the highway! Brad, our shuttle driver felt so bad for me that when we got to our room, there was a bottle of wine and some truffles to replace the broken Grappa (even though it was my fault!). He also went on a chase for my friend's purse (she forgot it on the bus, after all the Grappa comotion) and it was returned to her the next morning. Besides the excellent and very friendly staff, the place is very pretty. The rooms are great (love the deer wallpaper) and in the morning, my breath was taken away when I opened the curtains to find the most beautiful mountain view! No matter what room you are in, there is a mountain right outside your window. The event staff organized some very fun games outside for us and we got to play in the snow surrounded by mountains. At night, we would walk around the area and have some drinks at Woody's, the bar a short walk from the main building. All in all, a really great experinece and I would recommend it to anyone headed that way.

5 of 5  Beautiful Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Edmonton, Alberta, May 6, 2009

We stayed a week at the Delta Lodge and had a wonderful, relaxing time. The room was well appointed and fine size for the two of us. The location is spectacular and the pool, spa area is excellent. Food is pricey for the quality.

5 of 5  Wish we stayed longer., A TripAdvisor Member, Calgary, Canada, January 22, 2009

My husband and I had a wonderful stay here; our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. From the moment we arrived the staff was very friendly and helpful, which freaked us out a bit since we are used to big city indifference. We booked an Executive suite in the Main Lodge and were pleased with the size and location of the room. I can't remember if the bed was comfortable or if the hotel was quiet so they must have been fine. The food was a bit expensive, but no worse than Banff or downtown Calgary, and there was quite a bit of choice. I have many food allergies and the staff was excellent in accommodating my issues. Our extra blanket had a big goober in it, which grossed me out, but the staff replaced it right away.

Of course, the highlight of our stay was the surroundings. There are many hikes within walking distance around the lodge (bring good/ appropriate footwear as the snow sticks around) all with beautiful views. We are planning to go back this winter (with our dog - they are pet friendly) and are looking forward to it.

5 of 5  Beautiful Lodge in the Wilderness, A TripAdvisor Member, September 12, 2008

The best thing about Delta Lodge is its remote location and the worst thing about Delta Lodge is its remote location. You are surrounded by a vast wilderness of indescribable beauty. If you can handle that, along with top notch accommodations, multiple restaurant selections, fitness center, spa, planned activities, gift shops, grocery store, and a delightful staff - then give it a try.

We exchanged my timeshare for the Delta Lodge, and were assigned a room within the Lodge itself. Our room was very nice with a view of Mt. Kidd. The beds were very luxurious and we found the resort to be gracious in every way.

We ate at several of the restaurants and the food was good and the service was excellent. The gift shops are well stocked with a variety of local treasures. We especially enjoyed the little coffee shop just off the hallway of the lobby. And the lobby is great - with a nice fire and tasteful local decor.

The resort is nestled in the Kananskis region, which is surrounded by numerous provincial parks. The views are spectacular, wildlife abounds, and you are only an hour plus from Calgary and Banff.

Many hiking trails right outside the front door and you are close enough to make day trips an easy task.

Take the time to stop at the visitor centers at Peter Loughheed Provincial Park or Spray Valley. Their insight into the area and tips of well maintained back roads make for a driving adventure you will not forget.

We give the Lodge and that entire region a thumbs up and we would jump at the chance to stay here again.

5 of 5  Beautiful location, A TripAdvisor Member, St. Williams, Ontario, August 27, 2008

My family and I chose this resort because it was located near Banff and was still in the mountains and we weren't disappointed. The resort has really nice grounds with lots of wildife and interpretive hikes. The pool and hot tub was large and very nice. The staff were friendly and nice. I would suggest shopping for food before staying because the food was expensive and not that great. We stayed in Mount Kidd Mannor which is a bit dated in decor but clean and spacious and had a fridge. Our room was large with a loft, pull out couch and gas fireplace, however, the bathroom was tiny. It was a bit bashed up at the entrance and my guess this is because the hotel is used in the winter mostly by skiers who have wall and furniture bashing equipment. For the price of 119/ night it was completely exceptable and we enjoyed the interpretive hike immensly, we had a humorous and knowledgeable staff member. The parking is kind of wierd, as were the direction signs since the portion of the lodge that we stayed in was called Mount Kidd Manor but the signs said Executive Lodge so we had a bit of trouble finding our way around at night. The place had lots of activities for kids (I think these are only in the summer though; If you look near the check in desk you can find a listing of activities which took us a day to locate) and was very child friendly and kids under 6 eat free and half price for 7-12 year olds. However, if the food isn't super, then it is better to bring your own and picnic at the amazing picnic sites all around the Kanaskis Valley, which is what we did and we had great weather so it worked out. You are also only 40 minutes from Banff town and 20 minutes to Canmore which has a selection of restaurants and grocery stores. There are bears and deer and a variety of wildife in the woods, which can add to your expreience.

5 of 5  First Class Service, A TripAdvisor Member, Atlanta, GA, July 29, 2008

If you are planning a trip to the Canadian Rockies, and are flying in and out of Calgary, it is worth a trip to Kananaskis. The Delta Lodge, which hosted the G-8 Summit in 2002 and the Calgary Olympic Games in 1988, knows the meaning of service. Nothing is a problem here...if a guest is dissatisfied about anything, it is quickly remedied. You pay for this class of service, of course, so we could only afford to stay one night.

From the moment you open your car door, the service begins...The staff rushes to greet you and offers bottled water. We arrived an hour earlier than customary check-in time, and that was not a problem. Our room was ready. We were stunned a little, however, when we were told that it would cost $9 to park in the hotel's garage overnight. We elected to park in a visitor lot that was not that close to the hotel; my husband shuttled the luggage from the faraway lot to our room...no easy task.

We were exceptionally pleased with our loft room, which overlooked the gardens. This particular loft room had 2 bathrooms; a bathroom up in the large loft area, and a bathroom on the main floor. The loft also had 2 comfortable beds and a separate TV area. The bottom floor had another comfortable bed, a pull-out sofa bed and a dining area and work area. There was a refrigerator and a balcony as well. It was wonderful for our party of 4 to have so much room to spread out; there was ample room to store luggage, too.

We spent most of our free time walking the loop trail around the village, snapping photographs of the wildflowers. The wildflowers were beautiful and there were plenty of benches along the way to sit and gaze at the mountains and the countryside. If we had had more time, we would have hiked a few more trails. The Delta Lodge has a naturalist on staff, who conducts programs on variety of topics on certain days. We would have liked to have attended one of his/her talks.

My teenaged son enjoyed swimming in the salt water pool, and I enjoyed the whirlpool in the spa. My son was interested in meeting some other kids in the game room, but came back quickly when he discovered that there was an additional charge to play most games; he said that the only thing that did not accrue an additional fee was the ping-pong...

The concierge arranged for us to horseback ride at a nearby ranch. There were numerous other activities that we could have done in the area i.e. whitewater rafting, golfing, fishing, but we had to return to Calgary to catch a plane...

We all agreed that Kananaskis would be a wonderful weekend retreat if we lived close to Calgary. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, there is lots to do in Kananaskis. The Delta Lodge can help you plan it all...

5 of 5  Outstanding staff, A TripAdvisor Member, Calgary, March 1, 2008

I would like to add to the commendations made on the staff at this hotel.

I had an unplanned stay at the hotel with my two children due to my 4 year old daughter starting to vomit repeatedly following an afternoon of skiing at Nakiska. Upon arrival, I was assisted by the valet parking attendant who provided complimentary valet parking, cleaned the car exterior and left fresh water bottles for us. The front desk attendant upgraded us to a family room and arranged for gingerale and sprite to be sent to our room. On seeing us the following morning, the same front desk attendant immediately inquired as to how my daughter was feeling. I found this level of service and concern for our wellbeing to be far beyond anything I have ever experienced at a hotel.

Aside from the wonderful staff, the rooms are of a good size with a beautiful outlook onto trees and mountains. The pool is large, warm and clean with an atrium roof overhead and an adjacent hot tub. The restaurants and room service are reasonably priced and serve quality food. The children programs are excellent. I have stayed at the hotel three times and have been unfailingly impressed.

5 of 5  Perfect Stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Barcelona, Spain, December 10, 2007

Our stay in Delta Lodge at Kananaskis is one of the best hotel stays I can remember.

We were roadtripping from Calgary to Vancouver, and Delta Lodge was the second hotel we stayed in. The room was incredibly spacious and comfortable, the bathroom was great too, as was the service.

The hotel whereabouts are beautiful. We strolled down on different paths and the views were really awesome.

The continental breakfast was also very good, and the restaurant very comfortable and not very expensive. If someday we go back to Alberta, we'll make sure to stay in Delta Lodge again.

5 of 5  Hidden Jewel, A TripAdvisor Member, Atlanta, October 12, 2007

Nothing could have been better - the room, staff, service, attention to detail, beds, food. We were very pleased and would reccommend it to others and definitely go again.

This is a beautiful property, in a gorgeous part of the Canadian Rockies. Don't miss the Kananaskis area if you are headed to Banff.

5 of 5  Excellent, A TripAdvisor Member, Calgary, September 19, 2007

Very friendly staff, tastefully decorated rooms, has several boutique stores and food places inside hotel, salt water pool, sauna and hot tub, and located next to many walking trails. Overall it was a very nice place to stay and reasonably priced compared to the hotels in nearby Banff (n.b. Kananaskis is about 200 dollars cheaper per night and still has beautiful scenery of mountains). We got an upgraded room with one bedroom for a few dollars more a night, and it had a beautiful view and much larger than the standard rooms. I would recommend this hotel to all my friends.

5 of 5  We stay here often!, A TripAdvisor Member, Airdrie, Canada, July 20, 2007

We've stayed at the Delta several times a year for the last 4 years.

We've been there at Christmas (my favorite!!!), Easter, Thanksgiving, Labour Day and almost every other long weekend.

We do this because on long weekends they have wonderful kids programs on those weekends. They even empty out the mini fridges in the rooms so that you can bring your own milk/meats/buns if you want so you don't have to buy food all the time.

The kids/family progams include everything from nature walks geared to the season, to arts & crafts, parties, family games, GPS adventures, treasure hunts, pumpkin carving, visits from Santa or the Easter Bunny, star gazing, birds of prey programs, and on and on. My kids just love it!

Some long weekends some meals are included and other weekends it's not. The Labour Day weekend is by far the most affordable weekend - especially if you take your own food. The one weekend I wouldn't advise people go is Family Day in Alberta - the place is a zoo!

The views are incredible from every room and believe me, we've been in a lot of them. The service has been imbeccible so far. We haven't had a lick of trouble but even if we did, no one is perfect and things happen.

In the lobby there are couches and tables set up beside the large, stone fireplace and there is often a wonderful pianist playing the grand piano. It's a great place to sit and visit or cozy up with a book in the winter and read. In the evenings they offer hot chocolate and cider.

Go and enjoy!

5 of 5  Absolutly Amazing!, A TripAdvisor Member, Hamilton Ontario, May 24, 2007

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the lodge for 3 nights and absolutly loved it! Loved every meal, loved the rooms, and LOVED the views, trails and other activities that were available. Spa was really great and pool/hot tub was awesome! hot tub sits indoors and continues to the outdoors. I would recomend this lodge to everyone who is away to relax and also for people who want to get away for some outdoor activities!

5 of 5  Idylic, A TripAdvisor Member, Devon, England, March 9, 2007

This place is quite simply idylic. It is remote, but that just adds to the appeal. The rooms are large & well furnished. The pool & gym & indoor / outdoor hot tub are really pleasant. The food outlets are very good quality & very varied, some with fantastic views. The only tiny criticism is that the food outlets can be expensive by Canadian standards as you are a captive audience - but they still look reasonable compared to European prices & the quality is excellent. But the best feature is the friendliness & helpfulness of the staff.

5 of 5  Return to Delta Lodge, A TripAdvisor Member, Kendal, United Kingdom, February 22, 2007

Having stayed here in Summer 2002 and adored it, we decided to add two nights here onto our recent ski holiday so that we had easy access to the ski area at Nakiska. We booked into a Signature Club room (separate building to the main lodge). Room was beautiful and clean. Complimentary breakfast from 7 am (although it wasn't set out at 7.15 am on the Saturday morning when we left for the airport!) Hors deouvres from 4 pm.

Normally an adult only environment, one thing to watch if you are a couple that wants a bit of peace and quiet, is because it was a holiday weekend the Signature Club allowed children in there (which wouldn't be so bad if adults controlled them, but whilst we were there a table top was smashed as children ran riot)!

Dinner both nights at the Fireweed Grill absolutely brilliant. Staff as always courteous. Would have no hesitation in returning.

5 of 5  so beautiful, A TripAdvisor Member, Calgary, August 7, 2006

We stayed in their adult only signature club. It was so nice. The signature club serves free snacks from 4-6 pm and I was delighted that it included smoked salmon and bruchetta and various other goodies. We spent lots of time in the pool and hot tub. To sit in the outdoor portion of the hot tub and look at the mountains is amazing. We had an issue with a previous guest's personal belongings being left in one of the drawers. The hotel discounted our room and appologized for that happening. I can't wait to stay here again.

5 of 5  Long weekend getaway, A TripAdvisor Member, Calgary, Alberta, May 22, 2006

Lovely time, took the motorcycles up to the mountains for the weekend. Good drive close to home for us. Very good reception when we registered in the hotel. Room was very large with massive windows to enjoy the mountain view with. We had a corner room with the Deluxe room package. Room was very large, I believe they said it was 400+ sq/ft. We dined at the Fireweed restaurant and this is where we suffered some problems. First they did not have a reservation for us even tho we had made one 2+ hours before. The restaurant was over run with kids..... I know its the long weekend and its a family favorite to leave town but don't put a couple between 4 tables of kids. After requesting to move they found a remote corner for us. Food was excellent and service was not far behind. Just to note there was a nice bistro type restaurant beside the fireweed that was almost unoccupied and I think we should have dined there. We hiked on the trails around the hotel, very nice and the concierge had a nice printed map for us. The following day we requested in room breakfast. Turned out to be very nice. All said and done a very nice weekend out of the house.

5 of 5  Easter Bunny Delivers!, A TripAdvisor Member, Calgary, April 16, 2006

We just arrived home from a Easter weekend getaway at the Lodge at Kananaskis, and we will definitely return.

This was our first time to the Lodge, but from the number of families there it must be a tradition for a lot of people. On top of their regular programs there was a full slate of activities to keep the kids engaged all weekend. The amazing thing was that, with all the kids there, it was not noisy and the facilities never seemed crowded.

We were in the area early and the hotel had no porblem with an early check-in. Apart from some lagging service at one dinner, the staff was exceptional: polite, helpful, and approachable.

We booked on points and had the lowest level room, but even so found it very comfortable and well appointed.

Overall a great experience... and we didin't even scratch the surface of the area attractions (skiing, hiking, biking).

5 of 5  Great Getaway, A TripAdvisor Member, Calgary, Alberta, April 8, 2006

My wife and I decided to stay at the Kananaskis Lodge last minute - essentially had nothing to do on a Friday night so we drove out and stayed! The staff were extremely polite and friendly - everywhere we went we were greeted with smiles.

We ate at Brady's restaurant and had the best Veal I had ever tasted. Brady's isn't as presentable as the Fireweed Grill, but the food makes up for it. The service at Brady's was great and I would recommend eating here.

We loved the pool in the resort spent a few good hours here. The hot tub is partially indoors, and partially outdoors. If you come here, make sure to head outside in the hot tub and take in the cool mountain air and count the stars!

5 of 5  Awesome Place Loved It, A TripAdvisor Member, Calgary,Alberta, February 9, 2006

What A awesome place my husband and i stayed in the king executive suite with hot tub in room (huge room)

staff was awesome.

I LOVED IT.

5 of 5  Wonderful and good value, A TripAdvisor Member, New Jersey, August 27, 2005

We stayed 3 nights in the Signature Club section in 8/05 and loved it. The free breakfast was good and the room was quiet and comfortable, with a good bed. The advertised "room with a view" didn't have much of one, but that was a minor fault. Seasons restaurant was good but not great (overly complex and ambitious dishes), but the "market" restaurant (forget the exact name) in the main hotel was very good.

5 of 5  A wonderous place to stay!!, A TripAdvisor Member, denver colorado, August 12, 2005

This Beautiful Hotel in the midst of the beautiful mountains was a great hotel with nice rooms. i Have stayed there numerous times and had a 2-floor room everytime. The room had stairs leading up to a loft which had 2beds and a sofa couch on the main part that also had a nice fireplace by the t.v. If you are heading out to this area, I indefintley suggest staying here(if you like to shop and are worried that there is no place close to shop, dont fret, they have a mini-mall on site)

5 of 5  High Quality Mountain Paradise!, A TripAdvisor Member, Winnipeg, MB, July 23, 2005

What can I say - my family simply loves the Delta Lodge At Kananaskis! As former residents of Calgary, we spent a lot of time in the mountains in Kananaskis Country - and whenever possible we also stayed at the Lodge.

Now living in Winnipeg, we have travelled back twice in the last 3 years and each time have made a return visit to the Lodge. While the mountains and the wildlife are a big part of why we visit Kananaskis, it is truly rewarding to return the Lodge at the end of each day and enjoy the wonderful facilities.

The pool and fitness centre are quite spacious; along with the large pool and numerous types of fitness equipment, you will also find an indoor-outdoor hot tub as well as a steam room complete with infused eucalyptus vapours (wow!). For those that desire, there is a full scale spa on site to provide any necessary pampering.

The rooms are very comfortable; we stayed in a loft suite that included a fireplace (logs provided), fridge, dining table, sofa bed and two queen beds up in the loft. This suite even has two bathrooms - one on the main level and one in the loft.

The staff at the Lodge are all extremely friendly and will do everything possible to make your stay more enjoyable.

We will most definitely continue to be regular guests at the Delta Lodge At Kananaskis.

4 of 5  Great resort location, include outdoor activities, A TripAdvisor Member, Winnipeg, May 29, 2009

We were there with two kids, tagging along on a business trip. It is a lovely setting and I'd say it was very good.

They call it a Village, but really it is more like a singular resort. There is not really a village with a variety of independent restaurants, shops etc., although they have tried to create a village atmosphere.

If you do some skiing (downhill or XC) or mountain biking, hiking or horse riding, a stay here is really worthwhile. It is also not too far to consider for day trips to Banff and Canmore. The setting is breathtaking.

Nice pool, too, with a hot tub that goes outside, which is great when it is snowing!

4 of 5  Great views, great staff, really expensive mediocre food...., A TripAdvisor Member, sacramento, ca, May 26, 2009

We picked this resort as an exchange through RCI. We were impressed with the look of the resort upon arriving and were equally impressed with how friendly the staff was. While we wanted a room with one king bed, we were told that we would have to pay more money for that, and so we stuck with the assigned room we were given with two queens. The room was nice enough, if not a bit stuffy, but there was a great view of the mountains out the window. However, it wasn't but 10 minutes before we heard a dog barking from the room next door (dog-friendly resort), and we promptly dialed the front desk to request a move. A friendly gentleman at the front desk moved us to a room with a balcony and an even better view of the mountains. We were very satisfied! The rooms are equipped with a mini-fridge (smaller than your standard mini fridge) and a hot water boiler.

The biggest complaint we had was with the food selections. There are several restaurants in the resort, and because we were staying in the main lodge we weren't really aware that there was another restaurant in The Signature Club. Anyway, our selections were Bighorn Lounge, Fireweed Grill, and Grappa. All food is over-priced, but the best value is probably the bar food at Bighorn Lounge. We decided to eat at Fireweed Grill one evening after being cooped up in our room all day due to snow, but we were very disappointed. As an appetizer, my boyfriend and I shared a bowl of the corn chowder. We should have left after tasting the soup. It wasn't that it was bad, but the potatoes had disintegrated leaving the soup grainy and thick, indicating its age. I ordered the smoked sablefish which came with a tomato compote, potatoes, and green beans. My boyfriend ordered the roast chicken with a potato cake and broccoli. To give some credit to the restaurant, my boyfriend said the chicken tasted fresh, but my meal was dreadful. The whole dish was swimming in an egregiously pungent and foul tomato compote. The sablefish tasted as any typically smoked whitefish, but the tomato compote made the whole dish difficult to stomach, and the waitress was surprised when I told her I was finished considering how full the plate appeared. Both dishes were a little under $30 a piece. Sorry, I know this isn't a restaurant review... But, beware.

Anyway, I can't speak for the other lodges on the property because we only stayed in the main lodge, but we were satisfied with the stay. For the most part, the room was quiet, but there were a couple nights where we could hear the neighbors talking. If you encounter this problem, I recommend requesting a humidifier to drown out the sound of the neighbors and put some moisture into the nose-bleeding-causing air. There is an indoor pool, indoor/outdoor hot tub, steam room, dry sauna, and gym available until 11 PM every night, with 10-11 PM being adult only. The resort also has a small grocery market, sports fields, a hockey rink, trailheads for hiking, and a beautiful rim path with amazing views of Kananaskis Valley. Oh yes and there is free wired internet access in the rooms.

4 of 5  Wonderful K country, A TripAdvisor Member, Calgary, Canada, May 19, 2009

We just spent a wonderful w/end at the Delta Lodge. Our rm(2222) was in the Signature Club part of the hotel. This is adults only ,well I'd say 90% adults to be honest .

Our only let down ,was at check in, there was no one at the reception desk to actually check us in , finally(after about 5 minutes) when a staff member walked by,she informed us"to wait a few minutes"and someone would be by to check us in..She herself came back to check us in maybe 5 minutes later only after she had helped other staff lay our the evening Hors doeuvres

Our rm was large, 2 queen beds..slightly dated but very clean .

At the Siganature Club you have complimentary Hors Doeuvres served from 4-6pm..smoked salmon, spring rolls, cheeses etc..a. A continental b/fast is also included in their rate..not bad at all...yogurt, fresh fruit, muffins, toast etc etc B/fast is served until 10am.

The pool facilites at the hotel are great, hot tub too. We rented mountain bikes one of the days from the store at the Delta (Kananaskis Outfitters)and biked up to one of the lakes about 15 km away...stunning!! If you get the chance ,do try and do this..it was wonderful.

We ate at Woodys pub one of the days &.we thought it was good pub food..not too over priced as some reviewers have said..

We would stay at the Delta again in a hearbeat, it was a wonderful retreat away from everyday life.

4 of 5  The newspaper isn't free, but the whirlpool is great!, A TripAdvisor Member, Edmonton, Canada, May 5, 2009

On Saturday morning there was a cloth bag containing a national newspaper hanging on our doorknob. We assumed it was a complimentary paper so we took it in. When we checked out we saw that you are charged $1.50 for the paper if you "accept" it. Nowhere did we see anything informing us of this before we got our bill upon checkout.

Take your bathing suit, even if you aren't a swimmer. There are two whirlpools -- one indoor and one outdoor. There is also an indoor salt-water pool with lots of toys for kids. The shower rooms have lockers with keys on elastic wristbands, so you can lock up your clothes and not have to bring your own lock. The steam room (also free) has eucalyptus added to the steam. Very nice! The spa is pricey, but those who did book services were happy with them. There is also a nice work-out centre by the pool/spa.

I found the bed hard. I tossed and turned all night. The pillows were too small, I thought. I wish I had brought my own.

There is a little fridge in the rooms, plus a coffee maker and kettle, hair dryer, ironing board and irons.

I prefer the rooms in the Mount Kidd Manor to the ones in the bigger Delta hotel. (They are both owned by the Delta now.)

4 of 5  girl power, A TripAdvisor Member, calgary, April 19, 2009

My daughter and I went to the delta hotel on Friday night April 17th. We were there for the girl power package for Saturday April 18/19th. We decided ti get the extra night to really relax annnd enjoy ourselves. Check in was fast and the staff are very friendly and courteous. We got to our room and were pleasantly surprised. The room had a fireplace and pressed logs which last two hours of burning time and a dining table and four chairs. It alsoo had a hide-a-bed couch and a chair and ottoman for the feet. There was a cabinet with a television and also a full bathroom. The loft up the stairs had two queen beds, another full bathroom and another television. My daughter took the upstairs bathroom and I had the main floor one.

There was lots of coffee to make and a small fridge. .We went swimming in the large pool and used the hottub which is bothindoors and out. It was very nice and warma nd great for the body. There is also steam room which we used.

We got a one hour massage each as part of our package and enjoyed that. We tried the pub/restaurant called Woody's. It was good but very pricey. The only thing we were not happy about at all was the buffet breakfast. It was $42.00 each and the food was all cold and not enjoyable. The bacon was cold and fatty and the potatoes were soogy and cold. I definitely would not recommend the breakfast at the Firewood Grill at all. The pizza at the patiiserie is good.

The check out was fast also and the girl was extremely helpful to us. We definitely enjoyed most of our stay there. We had done the girl power package once before quite a few years ago. but we might think of going back later sometime in the future.

4 of 5  nice property, A TripAdvisor Member, bali, April 10, 2009

Decided overnight in Kananaskis after all day snowboarding, I thought it will be another hotel to sleep in but this hotel has more than what I expected. Nothing better than a full size swiming pool and a nice hot tub (best part indoor and outdoor) to relax after all day shredding the slope.has few restaurants selection, nice room but they charge you for internet service.

We had a great stay at the Delta in Kananaskis. It's like a self-contained, tiny hamlet.

Rooms were satisfactory, we were upgraded upon arrival so we ended up in a suite with a jacuzzi tub. It was very nice. Decor a bit outdated but relatively clean.

The food in the bar downstairs was outstanding. Upper end dining in the facility was OK and so was the daytime diner. The prices are very high so expect to pay out more than the usual amount for drinks and food.

This location hosts a variety of events from business meetings to weddings. On that Saturday we saw a minimum of 5 bridal parties but the property is so well set up that it did not seem to be crowded.

This property is pet friendly.

4 of 5  Nice stay but please don't expect anything special, A TripAdvisor Member, London, August 19, 2008

We stayed in the Signature Club of the Delta Lodge for 1 night as we wanted to come to Kananaskis and I have to say that it is a very odd place. The rooms in the signature club were large and well equipped if a tiny bit dated and the location in the heart of the beautiful Kananaskis region is simply stunning. The food in the Grill was excellent as was the overall service at the Lodge. The pool was lovely and the outdoor hottub a real treat. The treatments in the spa were also very good.

The problem with this place is however that it doesn't seem to know what it is. There are clearly pretensions of grandeur and luxury which seem slightly comic when the general atmosphere of the sprawling, campus-like hotel reminded me slighty of an English Aberdeen Steak House/Harvester restaurant meets Scout Camp - dated furnishings, tacky shops and restaurants with the atmosphere of a half-empty church hall. And without being snobbish (well, being quite snobbish I suppose...) the family-heavy, slightly overweight, cap-wearing-at-all-times clientele were not exactly suggestive of a high class establishment.

I certainly have nothing against the Delta Lodge and actually really enjoyed my stay there. I would also recommend it as a good base in Kananaskis. But I wouldn't recommend it for romance, for a luxury break or for anyone seeking a classy refuge unless Delta stop harking back to the fact that there was once a world summit there and spend some money taking it out of it's time warp.

4 of 5  Great for families, A TripAdvisor Member, London, August 16, 2008

We stayed in a signature club room which was very spacious and well equipped. The signature club lounge was great and we enjoyed the evening hors d'oeuvres and the morning breakfast.

Our son and daughter-in-law enjoyed the pool and hot tub and we also had very nice manicures and pedicures in the spa.

It was a pity we couldn't make a reservation in the Grappa restaurant and had to queue for a table. The food was OK but we preferred our dinner in the Fireweed Grill where, although somewhat lacking in atmosphere, the food was very good and good value.

We very much enjoyed the trails from the lodge finding them very well marked, easy to follow, and completely uncrowded.

4 of 5  Amazing Views, would return, A TripAdvisor Member, Halifax, Canada, July 28, 2008

I stay at Delta's whenever I sightsee within my own Country. This hotel was amazing. It was in prime location and the views were out of this world. I went during May, so I didn't have any intention of doing any winter sports. Me and my partner went on a few walks, and took a horse ride. We stayed one night as it was only meant as a romantic get away before I left the country for a month for a family reason.

I booked the Signature Club room, Deluxe with two floors. Cost was $249/night however I wanted to go all out on this occasion. The room was amazing! It was like a little apartment. It had a bathroom downstairs, along with a living room with REAL fireplace ( complete with matches and logs!!!) a nice work stations and a good size TV. Upstairs was a king bed and another bathroom. It was kind of strange to have one bed, but two bathrooms. The room really made me feel like I was living the high life, for sure. Since this was a romantic get away my interaction with the staff was very limited. They checked me in without a hassle, and checked me out at 6pm the next day ( Free late check out) without a hassle. I didn't encounter house keeping or any other staff. This is partly due to the fact the Signature rooms are in a DIFFERENT building! In most hotels the Signature rooms are just on a higher floor, but here you get an entire building all to yourself for signature guests. I was very, very impressed.

The day we left it started to snow, which is typical for the last week in May. we seen some wonderful wildlife on the road that leads into the hotel, so please BEWARE when driving up to the hotel.the road is curvy and animals can be right in the middle of the road. If I can find a picture of the animals I seen, I will post them. I will also upload a few pictures of the room.

IF you go to this hotel, and you stay in the signature rooms, you'll have a great time and be very impressed.

4 of 5  Great Service and Views, A TripAdvisor Member, Calgary, Canada, June 2, 2008

Great hotel and excellent service. This is an older facility (you can tell) so I'm glad that it is undergoing renovations. We had originally booked a room with a king, queen, and sofa bed. Upon arriving, there was a king bed in the loft and a sofa bed. The staff was very friendly and gave us an additional room with two queen beds without charge. All the staff were very friendly, including the housekeeping staff. I just wish our room had air conditioning. Due to the renos, some rooms are better than others. Overall a great stay. The views are outstanding.

Just a note, their catering services are expensive. The food was okay and pop was cheaper out of the vending machine.

4 of 5  Relaxed time, A TripAdvisor Member, High River, AB, May 19, 2008

As we arrived we were greeted by a concierge who asked our name and told us something about the activities that were going on. It was Hollywood in the Mountains.

It was nice as one he knew our last name then we were greeted by the check in staff.

The hotel was busy because of the special weekend, although it was geared toward the kids, there was still a good amount of peace and quiet at night.

The room was average with lots of information and comfortable beds. There was no a/c but the room did have a coffee maker and a kettle. Also it was a nice feature to have a sink outside the bathroom as well. There is no denying that the rooms need updating.

The three places to eat were good, a little pricey for what you get. The Grappa was very good with a decent wine selection and fresh tasting food. The Sunday brunch is not worth the money though, and we were a little disappointed in the in room breakfast, no butter or cream for the coffee.

The pool facilities were good, very expansive exercise room, steam room was excellent. Could have been a little cleaner in the pool area.

Housekeeping were excellent very clean with good attention to detail.

Good selection of in room entertainment.

There are some amazing views when you go on the walks around the area with benches everywhere.

All in all a fantastic relaxation spot in need of a little bit of updating.

Had a great time

4 of 5  Incredible Staff, A TripAdvisor Member, November 4, 2007

We regularly have our education conference here and the staff are perfectly amazing. When the room size didn't work for the amount of people we had sharing, the staff quickly changed us to a loft suite. Later, after joking with the booking lady, I found a chilled bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates in the room for the wait time between rooms!

Rooms are nice, especially the loft rooms, although the hotel can be spread out quite a bit. The area is beautiful. The staff go out of their way to help you have an amazing conference experience there.

4 of 5  Always a welcome escape - Girl Power Package all the way!, A TripAdvisor Member, Calgary, AB, October 1, 2007

I live in Calgary but for girls weekends away the Delta Lodge is a fabulous spot. The spa is wonderful and the staff are fantastic, the product is great. The Big Horn Lounge had a wonderful variety of drinks and snacks and the staff was very helpful for someone wanting to try something new (port wine). The food and service in the Firweed Grill was excellent as was the service - a little on the slow side but you are supposed to be RELAXING..... no rush - where are you going to go??? Lovely shops on site, great walking trails, the view is breathtaking year round. The rooms are nice, they are comfortable and serviceable, nothing elaborate but comfortable and clean. The Girl Power Package is a fabulous deal for value for your dollar - great stay - been there 3 times now!

4 of 5  A hidden gem, A TripAdvisor Member, Washington DC, August 7, 2007

We came to the Delta Lodge at the end of a two-week vacation where we stayed in the Fairmont properties in Banff and Jasper. We loved staying at those hotels, but felt every day that we were paying extraordinary amounts of money for our rooms and meals The modest rates we'd booked at the Delta Lodge caused us to imagine that we'd be heading for a much lower-end hotel. Were we ever surprised.

When we checked in, we concluded that the "family suite" with three queen beds was simply too small for our family of six -- not enough closet or drawer space. We called the front desk, and -- no problem! They moved us into two rooms in the "Signature Club" wing, which offered very nice amenities -- AC, bathrobes, turn down service -- all very nice.

We were astonished by the quality of the food at the lodge's main restaurant, Fireweed Grill (again, having walked in with very modest expectations.) And when the hostess informed us that our three younger kids would eat for half price, we nearly got the vapors. Our kids enjoyed the big indoor pool and the indoor/outdoor hot tub., and we loved the lodge's breathtaking viewpoint that overlooks the Kananaskis Valley.

Our kids voted Kananaskis their favorite stop on our journey through the Canadian Rockies (great horseback riding at Boundary Ranch, thrilling whitewater rafting with Inside Out Adventures) and it would most certainly be a key destination on any return trip to the area. And we would be happy to make the Delta Lodge our home base again.

4 of 5  Honeymoon Suite, A TripAdvisor Member, Hong Kong, March 3, 2007

My wife and I stayed at the Delta Kananaskis for two nights on Feb 3rd and 4th directly after our wedding.

Our reservation was botched from the start. I booked the Anniversary package special ($357 CAN/night) for the first night and told the phone reservation agent that we would like to stay on in the suite for the second night ($219 CAN/night) but didn't require the spa package for the second day. When we arrived at the hotel we were booked for one night only. This was a shame as I had called three days in advance to confirm the booking.

During my advance call to the hotel I requested a bottle of champagne and snacks be waiting in our room prior to arrival. When we arrived at the hotel at 1.30 AM we found nothing in the room. I called the front desk and they did send up the night staff with a bottle of champagne and chocolates. The night staff was very friendly and efficient. I called the manager in the morning and she removed the charges for the champagne. While I was happy that the hotel acknowledged the error and refunded the charges I was disappointed at the oversight. After all, you only get married once and only get one opportunity to get it right on your wedding night.

My second problem with the hotel is that the spa is run independently from the hotel. When I called in advance to book our spa appointments we were told that we were not guaranteed a spot in the spa even though we had booked the anniversary package. The package includes two spa vouchers. In my mind, if the hotel is willing to accept my anniversary package booking they should reserve a spa booking at the same time.

Now that I have those two beefs out of the way I would like to say that the other elements of our stay were very positive. The suite was brilliant and the hot tub very relaxing. The food at all our meals was plentiful and well presented. The bell staff was very courteous. The rooms are a bit dated, but kept in excellent condition. The on demand video system worked flawlessly and the selection of movies was both current and wide.

Our best times at the resort were taking walks on the vast pathway system and enjoying the excellent breakfasts.

My wife and I were there for a post wedding breather and only wanted to relax and have a couple of good meals. The hotel delivered in spades. Despite the problems with the hotel and spa reservation systems I would still recommend this property. Our overall impression was great. I would recommend this hotel to honeymooners as well as those looking for a weekend getaway.

I would like to add one final note. The phone charges at this hotel are extortion. I did use the hotel phone to dial long distance and made two calls to Calgary - total time - 17 minutes for which I was charged 35 dollars. Buyer beware.

4 of 5  odd mixture, A TripAdvisor Member, London, February 13, 2007

Delta Kananskis Lodge is an odd mixture. On the (very) positive side, by European standards, the rooms are huge and good value, the views from those rooms that have views are fantastic, and the isolation (which I loved) reminds you why the G8 summit was here - as does the slab of concrete in the grounds allegedly the site for a rocket launcher. .On the less positive side, the 'village' has all the charm of a 1950s holiday camp. The restaurants are as cavernous and noisy as school canteens, and the staff, though willing and charming are largely citizens of the world with something other than helping to run a hotel in mind., If you are here for a romantic time a deux, order supper in your room, enjoy the rockies, and remind yourself that unlike your boarding school, which this may ressemble in some respects, those groups of kids in the hotel are having a great time, You might too, but brief yourself well first on whether this is the right place for you.

4 of 5  A welcome break away, A TripAdvisor Member, Cork, Ireland, November 25, 2006

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights of our honeymoon and really enjoyed the seclusion and quiet. It was a very quiet time of year although it seemed that there was a conference on. Some of the shops were closed, which was a little disapointing but there were other amenities that we enjoyed including the gym, spa, and pool/outdoor hot tub. It was perfect to go soak after a morning of hiking. To be honest, now a month and a half later, I don't remember too much else about the hotel, so it couldn't have been too impressive nor disapointing. Really, the highlight for us was to go outdoors walking through the paths.

4 of 5  a very nice getaway, A TripAdvisor Member, Calgary, AB, October 16, 2006

I was at the Delta recently for a work conference. I would describe the hotel as very nice, but not extremely nice. The hotel has nice rooms, good places to eat and a nice pool and spa area. the only problem or advantage (depending on how you look at it) is that is is very Secluded. I would like to go back with my wife for a getaway sometime.

3 of 5  Don't have much to complain about, A TripAdvisor Member, Calgary, AB, November 30, 2008

Stayed here for a night for a Christmas party. The staff here are friendly to a fault. Everyone we met during the check-in phase made it a point to greet us, smile brightly, and say "My name is ___ and if you have any needs, just let me know." While that was nice and overbearing, I really didn't enjoy the phone call I got in my suite as my about to have a nap, when the hotel staff wanted to call and ask me if there was anything we could do.

The suite in the Mt. Kidd Manor we got wasn't anything to overwhelm us. It was a loft, where the bed was located above the main living area of the suite. The 10 steps you had to climb up and down were a little steep, and we were concerned about them to leave a light on during the night in case we needed to visit the bathroom downstairs. The bed was very comfortable, but the rest of the suite didn't do anything for us. The bathroom was tiny, the TV did not have many channels on, and the high speed internet connection left something to be desired.

At least I didn't have to pay for anything other than parking, but now that I know the place a little more, I could have parked outside instead of the underground parking fot $9. The map they gave us gave the illusion that the free parking area was farther away than it was.

3 of 5  Well ... it's okay ... not quite what I was expecting., A TripAdvisor Member, Toronto, ON, February 10, 2006

I've travelled to the Kananaskis area before and stayed at the Executive Resort, but I got a great price for the Delta and decided that this time we'd splurge and stay there. I think next time I will save the money and spend it on a longer ski day.

The rooms are nice, but nothing too spectacular - clean, tidy, slightly dark. I was somewhat disappointed when, despite requesting a non-smoking room, we were given a room that clearly had just been converted for the occasion, as the odour of smoke was still quite strong in the room. The front desk, when I inquired, assured me that it was indeed a non-smoking room. I guess that means that I was just imagining things. :)

The pool area was nice as well ... the indoor/outdoor hot tub was quite relaxing after a day of skiing. We were told that there were times in the day when no children were allowed in the hot tub -- maybe we should have held out for that time, because it was like a ten-year-old's birthday party while we were in there! Beautiful to be out in the hot tub with snow falling regardless, however.

In terms of restaurants, we didn't have a ton of time to try them out, but we did have dinner at the Grill. Food and wine were excellent - desserts in particular were amazing and I strongly suggest partaking!

I think overall my disappointment stems from the fact that I was expecting much more (in comparison to other Deltas in Canada). Also, the fact that this is where the G8 summit was held -- I think I was looking for something a little higher scale with a staff that went out of its way to make your stay pleasant. I felt that this resort really catered to families ... maybe we didn't fit into their usual clientele, and that's why I felt these things were lacking.

I think that next time, I will return to the Executive Resort with its lower prices, fewer amentities ... but nicer rooms, better service and tasty apples!

2 of 5  A Family Oriented Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, October 14, 2008

My husband and I are new to Calgary and decided to take advantage of the Thanksgiving long weekend to explore the region. We booked at the Delta Lodge knowing it was dated and nothing too fancy ... from reviews here and the hotel website, it seemed like a nice retreat in the woods to enjoy a glass of wine by the fire and indulge in an outdoor hottub.

How wrong we were.

Upon check in it became evident that we had walked into Romper Room. There were children everywhere. And their dogs. Running, screaming, playing with the complimentary coffee dispensers. Oh well ... it is Thanksgiving, a family time, we'll seek refuge in our room and the spa and take that hot tub ...

Not so much.

The room, a studio with "fireplace", was straight out of 1982 and hardly a refuge. The furnishings were in bad shape and the TV remote didn't work. The bathroom was too small to change your mind in and at one point, the fuse blew. The ice machine down the hall had a terrifying brown stain on it (cancel the champagne bucket ... ).

All evening we enjoyed through the thin walls the sounds of children running up and down the halls and dogs barking.

We ventured down to the pool area to discover that it and the hot tubs were completely over run with children. There was no room for us, had we even desired to play along. I commented upon this to the spa staff and they informed us that the pool area quiets down around 845pm. The pool closes at 9.

Our spa treatments were good.

I will say that the area around the Lodge is stunning. Also the service in the restaurants is quite good. Servers tend to be young and inexperienced (fresh grads from hospitality school) but they do care about your experience. Seasons was nice if dated and we enjoyed the live entertainment.

I suspect we will not return to the Lodge until we have children and dogs of our own.

In the meantime, if you are looking for a Rockies retreat it may be worth your while when booking to inquire if the hotel will peaceful or more active ..... so to speak. Nothing against families we were simply overwhelmed by the sheer amount of children. Live and learn....

2 of 5  Good thing I wasn't paying, A TripAdvisor Member, Calgary, Canada, August 10, 2008

My wife and I decided to stay one night up at the Kananaskis Lodge, as the company was paying as a reward for work performed. All I can say is that I am glad I wasn't paying for this visit. The hotel staff were all friendly and their service level was very good. We were greeted at the door when we parked out front for registration and the desk clerk made sure to provide us with all the details of the facility. The hotel has three parking options, self parking for free, underground for $9 and valet for $15. We went with the self-parking and it was away from the building and in an awkward space to access the building. You actually park on one side of the Lodge and have to go around to the back to get in. The hotel room was a reasonable size and the bed was comfortable. The remainder of the furnishings needed some upgrading. The wooden chairs were in need of restaining since they were badly marked up, the desk could use a touch up, the armoire with the tv would not stay open unless I used a chair to keep it open and the bathroom is something out of the 80s. The biggest knock on the place was no air conditioning. They do give you a fan but when all the bed has is the fitted sheet and a comforter, there is not much you can cover yourself with, it is all or nothing. Even with the window open, there was no air movement and we had a restless "sleep". The entire Lodge needs a facelift, it is looking a little old and shoddy. The hallways were a little dark and somewhat dingy.

The spa and fitness area are modern and well appointed. It looks like they are independently owned since it was a marked improvement from the rest of the hotel. My wife decided to have a treatment and said the service was good and the facilities were nice.

The restaurants were bad in our opinion. For dinner, we ate at Grappa, the Italian restaurant. We had the share plate appetizer but it was really smothered in too much olive oil and their were items missing that were listed in the menu. My wife's spinach salad was to have a lemon vinagrette but all she could taste was the red wine that was included in it. I don't know why the wine was put in a vinagrette. I had the mussels and clams. Certainly not worth the money and in some cases, the shells were not fully open like they should be. The service was slow with a line to get in as the two staff members could not clear the tables and service the patrons fast enough. For lunch, we ate at the Fireweed. We had the fresh mozzarella appetizer. I am still looking for the mozzarella. For $10, I couldn't find it and when we did, it was 5 small slices and it certainly wasn't fresh. Having been to Italy, we know this wasn't the fresh stuff. Each small slice was served between a stack of tomato slices. A total waste of money. My wife has the bean and fish salad. She said it wasn't very good and would not order it again. I had the chicken panini. I am still looking for the chicken and the panini was actually two pieces of flatbread. There was lots of the bread that had no food under it. The fries were the McCain's frozen stuff that they used. There was no refill or offer to refill my Coke. Considering what we ordered, waiting 40 minutes to get it seemed really long. We left the restaurant and went to look for something to supplement the meal as we were still hungry but down $40. The restaurants want you to believe that they are gourmet but the descriptions do not match the quality of the food. You are a captive dining audience up there and they know it. The restaurants need a makeover and someone who is interested in providing a good dining experience.

We will not be visiting this declining hotel in the future as we spent $500 on the weekend and even though we didn't pay, felt totally ripped off.

2 of 5  Kind of disappointed, A TripAdvisor Member, Sherwood Park, Canada, August 4, 2007

This was a first trip to the Delta at Kananaskis, and unfortunately it was somewhat disappointing. We have previously stayed in Delta hotels, and have been quite happy with the accomodations and services. The room was just OK, nothing special, could use some refreshing, but we were very discouraged when we stepped out onto the balcony and found a pile of dog poop. Dogs are welcome in the hotel, I believe for an extra charge, but I feel that they should have asked if anyone in our group (we had 3 teenage boys with us )had any allergies before putting us in one of those rooms. We did make a call to the desk, but 2 hours later nothing had been done to clean it up. Once we made our second request, they did send someone to clean it.

We did try out the pool and hot tub and it was fine, again, nothing special. The fitness room was well equipped, but we did not try any of the spa services.

Given the location, there is not a lot of choices for dining. We chose the Grill, and sat outside because the temperatures and view were beautiful. Just be prepared as the outside tables have metal tables and chairs that are very hard. This was probably the most disappointing part of our stay....the service was the worst service I have had in a very long time. We sat for probably 10 minutes before we got menus, then another 10 minutes before they even took the drink order. We are now 20 minutes into dinner and don't even have a glass of water yet. We did order an appetizer that came even before the wine, we requested some utensils, napkins and side plates but that never arrived. We ate our buns by scooping out some butter with the bun from the dish (remember we had 3 hungry teenage boys with us !!) Even after our meal arrived, we still had not received any utensils. Now had the meal been spectacular, it might have been somewhat easier to overlook some of the inadequacies, but again it was just OK.

The scenary is incredible and there is lots of hiking, biking and other things to do, but I don't think we will be rushing back to this hotel. Unfortunately, there is not much choice for staying in the area unless you want to camp.

Next time I think we will stick we the Delta in Banff.
