I had misgivings about staying at Hotel in a suburb, but this hotel is literally built ontop of a subway station, without downtown Toronto all of 20 minutes away. The hotel is fairly standard. The rooms are okay. The bed is comfortable, but the bathroom lighting has a blueness about it that is almost annoying. Internet was free, which was a blessing in disguise. Breakfast, which was included in my roomrate, was about as good as they come - great spread and choice. The location is excellent. It is located in North York Center, on Yonge Street, allowing walking distance access to some excellent restaurants, including a mini-Koreatown. There are two movie multiplexs - one across the street from the hotel, and another a 10 minute walk away. The neighborhood is nice and safe. The staff are polite but appear to avoid contact whenever they can. No problems with checking in and checking out. All in all, worth the money. But this is not, by any means, a downtown hotel. I have to say that this hotel was fantastic. The rooms were very spacious and although there was no window for the bathroom it was very light and airy. Nice big double kingsize beds and the hotel reception staff, bar staff and restaurant staff were amongst the friendliest people I have ever met. The friendliness seemed geniune as well. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and would not hesitate stopping there again, if I ever have the opportunity to visit Toronto again. For a city it was very clean and the people extremely friendly and such a wonderful diverse of nationalities. I would highly recommend this hotel to other travellers whether for business or pleasure. I was very pleased with this hotel. I'd stayed in Novotels before, so knew what to expect, but this surpassed my expectations. The room was clean and comfortable, recently decorated. The staff were helpful and friendly and the food was good. The pool was a bonus on a hot evening. I knew it was a subway trip away from central Toronto, but didn't realise it would be so quick and easy to access the tube (metres away in the same shopping complex) and so cheap to use. I made full use of this and got around very well in Toronto, which felt very safe for a single female traveller. It was so easy to reach this hotel too. I took a GO bus from the airport to York Mills, then the subway for two stops to North York. It cost less than $7 CAN - a real bargain. When planning our trip to Toronto for a couple of hockey games, We decided that we wanted to spend a night in North York to be closer to the Vaughn Mills mall. I was able to get this hotel for a very good price through priceline, and was quite anxious to get there, as the reviews on here were favorable. Here are a few observations... 1. The staff on the phone were extremely helpful when asking for directions to the hotel. It is actually quite easy to get to and the parking garage is easily accesible. 2. The staff inside were great. I have heard of some people getting treated different for getting their rooms through hotwire or priceline, but this wasn't the case. They were extremely helpful and polite. 3. I loved the room. We got a King sized bed, and absolutely loved it. The room is very modern...kinda like an ikea ad. The bathroom was very nicely decorated and modern looking. 4. I didn't get a chance to check out the mall , or the subway that is attached, but having a subway stop in such close proximity would be great for those needing to venture into the city, but prefer to stay on the outskirts! Again, We truly loved our stay. The novotel is rated as a 3 1/2 star, and I can say that I prefered it to a few 4 stars that I have stayed in. I hope this helps... Please don't hesitate to chose the Novotel This hotel is one of the nicest in the city of Toronto. It is in the fancy North York shopping district...Sheppard and Yonge and is close to the highway 401 allowing easy access to pretty much anywhere else in the city. The accomodations were wonderful. Spacious, fresh and clean. The staff was courteous and referred to us by name. The brunch served in the main dining room offered a variety of savoury dishes and very healthy options, such as home made breads, yogurt, fruit salads and cereals. The savoury part was the eggs benedict, hash browns, scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes and a variety of juices as well as your staple coffee and teas. I have stayed in a few other hotels in Toronto and have found that the Novotel, North York is the only hotel I will now stay in when I go to Toronto. They are consistent and reasonably priced. This hotel was a great place to stay. I enjoyed the location and the convenience of the proximity to local events. From the time that I made my hassle free reservation to the courteous staff that greeted me at the font desk, I knew that my stay would be a great place to lay my hat. I was impressed with all the services this hotel had to offer, especially the pool. This is not a big hotel so the attention and the speed that you receive from room service is great. I shall return. Great place, not the best location , though good service and minutes away from toronto! great beds also Having posted a review of this hotel earlier this year that simply rated it 2/5, I felt the need to post an equally honest review when we had a more typical stay here. We have stayed at this hotel 4 times now. Each time the service at the front desk has been excellent. On this occasion, there was never a wait, not even when we checked out at the latest possible check out time. The rooms at this hotel are clean and modern. Although they have a european feel, this did not put us off. It is still easy to feel comfortable in these rooms. The beds are big and comfortable. While a previous post about unfriendly minibar language is accurate, there are many other things to look at in this hotel than unfriendly minibar language. There is complementary wi-fi internet. No computer? There is one in the lobby to use. The showerhead is good, and the curtain bends out so that there is room to shower without rubbing against the curtain. All of the products in the bathroom are decent. The view will likely either be of parklands or the mel lastman square, either has suited us fine. The best part of this hotel for us is that they really accomodate pets. Not only do they not charge you for bringing your pets, but they provide you with a free bag which includes bowls, leash, bags, a frisbee (the dog one anyway) and treats. Non-pet owners do not fear. Our dog is non-allergenic, and we've never visited a room here thinking it smelled like pet or had an allergic reaction while visiting. You should also know that they do not have many smoking rooms, I think 4. While smokers will complain about this, it is part of a general Ontario trend of pushing smoking outdoors. As a non-smoker I appreciate never receiving a room that smells like cigarettes. This hotel is also directly on the subway line. This is convenient if you are going downtown, and can be more convenient than staying and paying for downtown location. The restaurant is understaffed. Enough said about that. Anytime we travel with our dog, we endeavour to stay here. Even without him, we can count on clean, modern accomodations which allow us to access our uptown and downtown friends. Had a great stay at the Novotel North York this July with my family. Stayed in the Novation Suite - loved the room. This hotel is very central to many locations in Toronto. Subway access is a bonus when not wanting to travel by car. Staff were excellent. Clenliness of room was great. Only problem with room was it didn't have a fridge that customer could stock with their own beverages - fridge was a stocked item fridge. Otherwise amenities were great, enjoyed the sauna, and the pool was stocked with many pool toys for families with younger children. When back in Toronto this will be the hotel we choose to stay with again. Our first night on Canadian soil was here at the Novotel North York. Extremely Satisfied with our choice. Ok it's not central, but only 10 mins drive to CN Tower & centre. We had a novation room, What a nice room, very modern, bright and clean. Staff was more than friendly and very pleasant. If you don't mind being a little out of Toronto, I would reccomend this Hotel. Parking is under the hotel in a 24hour manned parking lot. I found this hotel to be a better standard than some 5 stars we stayed in whilst in Canada. Just a tip :- If you do the Cn tower, Have a meal at the 360 degree restaurant - then entrance is free, Otherwise it's expensive to go up there. After reading some reviews i had some concens about the hotel which had been provided as part of a flight/hotel package, but all were unfounded. The staff were great, allowed a 2 hour early check in, were extremly helpful and friendly. The room was very nice. Everything in order and the heating worked well (-8 outside but a cosey 24 in the room). The walkway from the Lift to the Room was cold though. The pool was nice but seemed cold even though the temp indicated 28. The hotel breakfast was fantastic, an all you can eat buffett for $12.95can, which for us brits, i think was good value. Dinner was had in the room via room service and again offered good value. I was disapointed in the parking charge which i felt was high at $15.00 per day. I would suggest either a flat charge for the stay or reducing the cost, other hotels i stayed at in Toronto on previous trips made no such charge, but if your only there for a couple of days, then i guess it's not that bad. Overall, this was a great hotel, with good, friendly, helpful staff and good food. I will stay there again, the next time i visit Toronto. Stayed at the Novotel in June 2004 for 2 nights. Everything was great with this hotel. The rooms are very nice with large king beds. The staff at the hotel was very helpful and friendly. In addition, the subway entrance is next to the hotel, and makes it very easy to get around the city. Will stay at the Novotel next time in Toronto. Good location next to subway, quite easy to find too. Very clean and spacious rooms, friendly staff, good bar and excellent European restaurant. Cheaper than the downtown Novotel and it even had some rooms available during the Toronto film festival! I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again My boyfriend and I stayed at the Novotel North York for 4 nights. The room was clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable, but only had a duvet and a sheet to cover the mattress. Another sheet to cover up with would have been nice, but we were fine with the duvet. We both had problems with the pillow as well - one pillow wasn't enough, but two were just too much. Maybe we are both picky, but it was a small annoyance. The bathroom was nice, but could have been brighter. The shower was amazing: the water pressure was perfect and there were several different streams to choose from. The day before we left there was no hot water in the hotel in the morning, but we were compensated with two free vouchers for their breakfast buffet. We left for the day and the hot water was back when we returned in the afternoon. The only real issue we both had with the room was the lack of a refrigerator. There was a mini-bar instead with a noticeable sign listing the prices. The hotel's location was great and there is a subway stop in the little shopping center the hotel is adjacent to. There is also a larger shopping center with restaurants, a movie theater and grocery store across the street from the hotel. We particularly liked Cafe Supreme, which was in the small center and had great breakfast. Parking is expensive at $17/night, but we somehow lucked out and only got charged for two nights when we were checking out. Overall, we had a very nice stay at the hotel and would definitely stay there again. We stayed one night, while in town to see Jersey Boys at the Ford Center of Performing Arts. The location was great. Within a short walking distance of the show, right next door to Mel Lastman Square, right above the subway, and a few blocks from the Sheppard Centre. Parking was underground in the parking garage, at $17 per night. Room was nice, with minimalist design. We planned to use the pool, but thought it was too cold, even though it is advertised as heated. I would definitely stay here again. The location is very good with direct connection to subway, room not very spacious but OK, staff friendly with free internet in lobby. The big advantage is a very good breakfast with excellent pastries. We just returned from staying 6 nights at the Novotel. Upon check in, I requested a room overlooking the park. They gave us a room on the opposite side of the hall (I guess the woman working at the desk daily does not know the odd/even system-duh). They changed it after I complained and after having to take all my luggage back to the lobby and stand in line again. Other than having a carpet tack stuck in my foot that was at the doorway leading into the bathroom, the stay was very pleasant. Very clean hotel. Not too many public meeting areas other than the bar and restaurant within the hotel however which makes extended family visits hard as the lobby was always packed with people. The hotel is well situated in North York between Sheppard and Finch, with a bunch of restaurants and shops within walking distance, and the hotel has a restaurant and bar. The check-in and out was a bit slow owing to only having 2 receptionists, but other than that the hotel was great. The room was clean and modern, as was the bathroom. There was free wi-fi throughout, and a public access terminal in the lobby with a printer. Underground parking with in-and-out priviliges was $17/day. There was a small fitness centre with a pool in the hotel. The hotel is connected by underground footpath to the subway (maybe 45 minutes to the Eaton's Centre), and it's about a 45 minute drive to the airport. Overall this hotel was very nice and we'd stay there again. This was a great place to stay. I was traveling with my two daughters 14 &11 we all liked it. The hotel was very nice, large room, very clean modern decor. The swimming pool and fitness center were clean and bright looking out over a lovely garden across the street. The hotel is located in a very nice upscale area - trendy wine store & grocery with great deli & fresh fruits across the street. Coffee shops near by. It was a long slow drive with lots of traffice down to harbor on surface streets. It took a day or two to find quicker freeway access. I found a great rate $99 with advance purchase on gta.com can I say that on this list? I stayed at the Novotel with my wife for 3 nights (14-17 June). We don’t use a credit card when travelling and normally leave cash deposit for incidental expenses; however this hotel wanted a deposit of $50CAD per person per night – totally outrageous!! Room (611) was clean, modern and spacious with extremely comfortable beds and a mini-bar (expensive) but lacked a fridge where one could put milk etc. Hotel has indoor pool which although small was adequate but lacked proper changing facilities / lockers. Recommend buffet breakfast in the hotel restaurant (Cafe Nicole) for about $14CAD; and reasonably priced bar snacks in the hotel bar (Stage Door Lounge). We don’t drive so access to public transport was essential. The hotel is located in the North York shopping Centre on top of a subway station giving access to downtown Toronto in around 25 minutes. Hotel is approx $40CAD away from Toronto airport by taxi. Overall good value for money stay for the price paid and would probably stay again if in Toronto. My family and I attended my nieces Bat Mitzvah and my sister had arranged a block of rooms for her out of town guest's. This was a great idea it was hassel free from the time we called to make our reservation to check in and to the time we checked out. The excellent level of service we received from the front desk was fantastic! The front desk customer serive girl was also great as she arranged with my sister welcome gifts for all of us upon check in. The hotel overall is very clean. The rooms were a bit small but very modern and the room attendent was very friendly. We did not have a chance to experience the fitness facilities and the restaurant during our stay but we will make a point of returning to Toronto and the Novotel Toronto North York hotel will be our #1 choice. I stay at this hotel about 6 times a year. the furnishings are simple- a lot of birch and clean lines. Beds are very comfortable and bedding is nice quality. Bathrooms are good. Front desk service is pleasant neighborhood is safe with good runing and walking trails close by and very close to the subway. Big food store across the street For the price this is a very good location to stay in or nearToronto. I usually pay from $119 to $169 depending on the time of year I stayed here early last year and was very pleased with the hotel I came back to this hotel once again this year and once again I have not been disappointed. The rooms are excellent, the service very caring and they took care of the small details. i had on my last stay requested that I be given a room facing south on a high floor and they remembered ! WOW that is service. The Breakfast buffet in the restaurant was very good and the evening staff were very helpful I would highly recommend this hotel to any visitor in Toronto When we escaped from Glen Grove midtown after one look, we found ourselves sitting at their parking lot with no place to go. We stayed at Novotel North York for one night 2 years ago and remembered it being a more than an OK hotel so we decided to ring them. We couldn't get the lowest rate offered on the Internet ($119 or $109 prepaid and nonrefundable) but were given THEIR lowest rate at $139 per room. They managed to find us two adjoining rooms at last minute even though the reservation agent over the phone offered us rooms with 2 beds that were not available when we arrived at the check in desk. Each room has a queen and a pull out sofa, European style, that upon lifting up the seat pad, it's a bed. The lower layer of bed sits on the floor tucked under the sofa. The sofa bed accommodated our 14 & 19 yr old sons. The first day we didn't find any shampoo in our bathroom so there are slip-ups by housekeeping here and there but we find the place clean and inviting. Parking is $15/pday. The Novotel North York is a good value if you get a good rate like I did ($119 Travelocity). It is very European with it's limited amenities (no bellhops, small lobby, etc.) but- we loved the stylish Scandinavian decor. It looks like it was designed by IKEA. Not everyone's cuppa tea, perhaps; but we liked it. Very clean! Our room was a bit small but adequate, with a nice view. The front desk was reasonably efficient and pleasant without being cloying, as was the rest of the staff. If you want to be pampered- this is not the place, but the staff was amenable to our request for extra towels and little things like that... Note: the walls seem a bit thin. We could easily hear a family in the next room...North York is a lovely area, not as congested as downtown---but, it does take more than 10 minutes to get downtown. Fortunately, there is a subway station conveniently located in the same building, There is a quaint little park directly across from the hotel, and also Mel Lastman Square on the other side- a relaxing urban oasis. There's a food court in North York Center, where you can get a good breakfast cheaper than the hotel. Although, parking at the hotel is $15/day, that's reasonable by Toronto standards. The area lots are not much cheaper. All in all a superior value...we had a great stay. Rooms at Novotel are great! It is at a very convenient location, if you are familiar with Toronto Transit, North York transit station is just right by the lobby. Underground stores, coffee shops and the library are also on the main floor. There is a big movie theater located right across from the hotel. Rooms are modern and clean. The mattresses are so comfortable to sleep on, we all slept like babies during the stay. AC is quiet and soothing(this means a lot to me!) , but the occupancy rate of the hotel is high, so do expect to hear some noise from the hallway. Their linens and towels are very nice and clean, they have very nice scent! Parking is expensive though, expect to pay $15 per night! But we found the underground parking to be helpful when visiting Toronto in winter. Lots of ethnic restaurants on Yonge Street! We will need to stay longer at our next trip to try more restaurants on the street. We stayed at the Novotel in North York for a 3 night weekend and what a comfortable visit it was. I was traveling with my wife and son and I am usually a business traveller but this time it was for pleasure. The rooms were cozy and clean. Flat screen tv, duvet and feather bed ... beautiful. My wife and I joked about how the bed was more comfortable then the one we sleep in at home. My son brought my laptop and was able to connect to the internet with ease. When we had to deal with the staff we were greeted with a smile and were spoken to as friends... not snobby at all. Great location on the subway line if you want to go downtown and not deal with traffic. I've been to Novotel North York before and this is where I'll be staying when I return! Great job on the renovations! Just got back from a trip to Toronto. Stayed at the Novotel North York and we really enjoyed our stay. The staff was professional, nice and very pleasant. Our Novation room was extremely comfortable and quiet. Had breakfast at the hotel 2x and had really nice food....kinda felt like home cooking. Next time we travel to Toronto, we'll stay there, again. Stayed at the Novotel North York twice in 2002 because the hotels in downtown were either all booked or too expensive. I booked it both times online and never heard a review about the place. However, I have stayed in the Novotel in downtown New York and found it to be memorable - nice, clean, spacious rooms with friendly and helpful staff and modern decor. So I decided to take a chance and book this one in North York. It was a fantastic price and right on the subway line. It's also a smaller side street just off Yonge st, so it was convenient for our friends to come pick us up from the hotel when we could hitch a ride. But the best convenience was the attached subway via the mall entrace. Even when it rained we didn't get wet returning to our hotel ! I would definitely stay in the Novotel North York again. Oh - and parking was relatively inexpensive for the area, if you did have a car. We rented a car the first time thinking that the hotel was a little way out of the city. The parking gargage is part of the mall's and the library's so it was a little tricky with all our bags at first. You have to take two different elevators and the 2nd elevator is not exactly in the line of view from the first one in the parking garage. Staff is fully bilingual French and English. Not a bad hotel, but not a Fairmont-which I knew not to expect. If you do underground parking, good luck trying to find out how to get into the building to get to the hotel...the directions inside the parking garage are awful. The actual hotel is inside a building with other stores. Registration was quick, service good, hotel room a bit small, but we were there for only the one night. It was nice to be able to go to the different shops in the building to get a coffee. The best thing about the hotel was the convenience to the restaurants and the Toronto Centre for the Arts. If you are going to see the Jersey Boys (which is fantastic, by the way) you are only a couple minutes walking distance to the theatre. We went to Milestones restaurant, (across from the Novotel) and it was okay, but the service was bad, they brought our entrees while we were still eating our appetizers, waiter did not come back to check on how our meal was, didn't offer coffee/dessert, we had to ask for that. And my mom had mentioned she wasn't too impressed with the pasta dish she had, and there was no mention of a discount or a free dessert to compensate. The best part of the night was seeing "The Jersey Boys", which i highly recommend. If you are going for one or two nights, the hotel is fine, but I cannot see spending a week at this hotel. We stayed at this hotel for the SHI Hockey Tournament from 4-15/4-19. We booked a room with a Queen bed and a pullout couch. Be aware, the pull out couch isn't a folding couch bed. It is a trundle bed with a couch top and mattress on the floor level. Hot water boiler was out yesterday morning for most of the day. Parking was free, garage is tight. Breakfast is a RIPOFF! $18.00 for continental breakfast... Go to Moxie's restaurant for great service! Had a 3 night stay while in Toronto on business. Originally was scheduled to stay 4 nights but checked out early--better rate and better hotel near airport for final night. Room was OK, linens could be upgraded. King size bed , limp linens, with 2 regular sized pillows and 3 10 x 10 accent cushions looked kind of sad!! I found the quality of food in the restaurant poor and the prices high. A Club sandwich made with deli chicken slices just doesn't do it for me. Service slow at times. I don't know if I just didn't find them (single traveler, cold weather) but I really didn't see anything else close by to eat. Wendys or Milestones across the street was about it. Didn;t use it, but access to the Subway was good. Hotel was clean and free internet in the lobby was a good thing. I would not stay here again. My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel May 24th after going to see a Jays game. It's a decent hotel. The rooms were clean and well put together. We got a good deal from hotwire so it was worth our money but I certainly don't feel it's worth the 145 bucks expedia was charging. We enjoyed the fact that the TTC station is in the center and was easy to get to. It made our trip to the game alot less tiresome since we aren't from the area and weren't sure where we were going. The food/bar was overpriced and we ended up paying 15 bucks each for a breakfast buffet that was kind of terrible. The eggs had the texture of chalk. I would definitely recommend staying if you can get a good deal just stay away from the breakfast. It's not worth your money. We did go to the pool. It's very small and when they say no diving they really mean it. It's about 4 feet deep all around. Luckily it wasn't very busy so we could play around in the water as much as we want. 10 people would definitely make it very crowded. The fitness center looked nice and the equipment looked new but we didn't get a chance to use it. I didn't like the fact that there wasn't a co-ed sauna. We enjoy saunas but they aren't much fun to take by yourself and they were in the change rooms so we couldn't have one together. All and all we got a good night's sleep in a comfortable bed and that was really what we were looking for so our stay was average. Too bad the cheerful, courteous, efficient staff have to give their customers such tired rooms: plastic surfaces with cigarette burns (not a trace of smoking odour, though), leaning mattress, uneven sofa (pull-out). Otherwise, the Novotel North York would be pleasant. Excellent wireless connection in your room (included in price). And if you have problems connecting, the front desk will give you a wireless "bridge" for your laptop, which works perfectly. Walking in the front doors, you get the impression of a very modern, upscale hotel. However, the rooms were small and ours looked a little worn. The walls were paper thin and we could have almost been able to carry on a conversation with our next door neighbors. The subway is very convenient but that's where I made my mistake. This was the most expensive subway system I've encountered -- $2.50 a ride -- and with three of us, we spent close to $30 riding the subway back and forth to the harbor and downtown. I could have spent a little more for the hotel, not ridden the subway, and saved a half hours trip each way. We got a great price through Expedia so all in all, we got our moneys worth.

I stayed at this hotel overnight last week (Feb 20th-21st) as I got it at a good price on Priceline. The hotel was okay, staff was friendly, had a good view from my room with the floor to ceiling windows. However some of the cons include: The room was pretty small, the walls are ridiculously THIN. I heard the people in the next room speaking and coughing and had to turn down the volume while watching Leno at night so as not to bother the neighbours. In addition, one of the towels in the washroom had a stain on it (looked like a blood stain but not 100% sure), and finally they charge $15 for parking! I thought they would at least waive the parking fee because of the towel incident, but they didn't. (At least I got an apology I guess) Overall, I don't think I will be returning to this hotel, it's definitely not worth the $160+ regular hotel rate. Reserved my smoking room online one month inadvance and was required to pay in full for this room upon booking. Website provided a cost of $109 for a two single bed smoking room, which I booked. Upon check-in was told that there were no standard smoking rooms available, had to go to upgrade to a delux room for smoking at an additional charge of $30. I paid for the upgrade and questioned it later directly to the hotel manager via email. He stated "We only have delux smoking rooms, not standard smoking rooms." When I asked why the hotel's website did not state this, he had no reply. I asked why the front desk personnel did not tell me this, again he had no reply. I was refused any refund or satisfactory answer to my question of not being told in advance and why the front desk did not know about only the "Delux Room Only Smoking Policy". Hotel is other wise OK, but there are better hotels, closer to downtown at less than $100 a night. I stayed in one later during my stay in Canada. I just returned from staying at this hotel, and frankly I was a little disappointed. Where to begin? As a business traveler, I have certain requirements to ensure a pleasant experience. This hotel did not meet any of them. First, access to high speed internet (and necessary connectors) was not available in my room. When I spoke to the front desk, they conceded that they were having problems with their service and would bring me the necessary wireless connectors when they resolved the problem. I never heard from them again. High speed internet in my room is very important in order to connect with my network at work. As a result, I could not access any of my work from the hotel and needed to go elsewhere. Second, if you like peace and quiet, this is not the place for you. I could hear conversations taking place outside my room so loudly that I could practically repeat word for word everything they said. Third, the room was very small and the furniture and decor looked like a 1980s flashback. That was my first and last time staying there. We stayed at the Novotel North York on May 17th and 18th. I had previously stayed here when I attended a course at my employer's head office up the road. I had a good stay then so even though I would of liked to stay closer to downtown I booked this place because I got a rate of $145/night on hotels.ca. The first night was good. The beds are comfortable and the staff is friendly and professional. We were visiting my daughter in the city so we were really just using it as a place to bed down for the night. The 2nd night wasn't so pleasant. We turned our tv off around 10 o'clock and we could hear the neighbour's tv really loud. I didn't really expect them to turn it down because it was early yet. However it was loud enough to stop me from sleeping. My husband was able to fall asleep. Every once in a while I would here the person through the walls and I could tell that they were very drunk. After listening to the tv noise I determined he was watching some extended Ultimate Fighter Marathon. I imagined someone that wanted to kick the crap out of someone. Hubby woke up and said that we should call the desk. So I called and got no answer. Then tried to sleep some more. At 2:30 a.m. I tried again. The desk answered this time and they couldn't get the person to answer the phone so finally they were going to enter with the key but he came to the door. I could hear him suggest to the desk clerk that we could do something unspeakable to his private parts. But he did turn it off but started yelling insults through the adjoining door. It was a bit hard to fall asleep after that. Even though the breakfast was good, the beds comfy and the staff night I will never stay here again. Really one shouldn't be able to hear so clearly through walls. Booked standard room. Found dead fleas in the bedding. I was switched to another room and upon entering it found dirty socks left by the previous guest. The third room they took me to had gravel embedded in carpet. The walls were thin so I was kept up by the neigbours - it sounded like they were in my room with me. The shower made an awful loud noise when turning off the water. I stayed there due to its location. I will NEVER stay there again because it was so unclean. i think this was my worst hotel stay. the room was clean enough i suppose but: couldn't adjust the temperature of the room b/c "the heater was off until the season started" so if we wanted ventiliation it was just the fan which blew cold air. the chair broke in the room we were staying in. and the mini/ bar fridge had a sign warning you to almost not go near it - like it was fort knox. very off putting. location was ok - on yonge street but further up. staff was friendly enough - but the hotel was just weird. I was invited for family wedding in Toronto. My host made reservation and paid for the stay at Novotel, North York for three nights, for my wife, children and myself. On the second night we were locked out from our room, denied access to our luggage and requested to bring our host in person or we can't get in. There were several other rooms with my relatives staying in for the same event at this hotel and they had experienced similar problems as well as other difficulties. That was the worst experience I ever had at any hotel anywhere I stayed in the world. I will certainly never recommend Novotel chain to anybody traveling for business or pleasure. My husband was booked into this hotel for business the week of May 8th - 12th. It all started with a call to the hotel to upgrade the room. Couldn't find his reservation, call back tomorrow.....Called back next day to upgrade (at our personal cost). No, you can't do that I was told; when I asked why I was told - quote ' That's just how it is." I asked to speak to someone else; after being on hold for 3 mins another operator took my request and noted it on the reservation. I also enquired about a day rate as our flight did not leave until late Friday night. I was told to talk to the front desk on arrival. Arriving on Sunday the 7th there was no record of the upgrade request but they took my word for it and put us into room on the 14th floor. Flat screen TV, duvet and feather beds were all offered on the website - not......we called down the desk and asked to be moved into a room that hosted these things. Now off to the 17th floor. Still no feather bed but we stayed in that room. Very, very small! No where to sit except for the bed, 1 small club chair and or at the desk. As for the day rate, we were told no, the hotel is always booked and no day rates are avail. I found that very odd and rechecked later in the week and yes, stay until 1pm for no charge or until 6pm for $60.00 - (must have talked to the woman who wouldn't let us upgrade before) This is not a hotel for the female business traveller, a small mirror at the front door, no dresser, a very small vanity in the bathroom (no where to get ready) a shaving mirror that can only be used if you are over 5'8". Soap the size of a silver dollar and a one use bottle of shampoo. Forget about dining at the hotel, the food was tolerable at best. When trying to dine at lunch I was seated and waited for more than 10mins for a waiter, no one came. Keep in mind that there are only 3 other people in the resturant.....I gave up and left, no one seemed to care. Spend your $$ elsewhere, the Novotel, North York doesn't seem to need it. My wife and I stayed at this hotel on October 5, 2004. We called about 6 or 7 other hotels in the area, simply looking for a jacuzzi tub for us to enjoy together. No other hotels seemed to have this feature, but it was important to us, so when we called Novotel, and were told that they had ONE jacuzzi room left, we booked it. It was steep at $204 for the night, but we felt we had no choice since there were no other hotels with this feature that we called. We were told that the tub would fit two people "comfortably" on the phone by a Novotel employee. We arrived at the hotel about 3:40pm, check-in time was 3pm. When we got there, we were told that our room wasn't going to be ready for another 30 minutes. We were upset because the room should have been ready at 3pm check in. We were told the person before us checked out late, even though we made it clear this was not our fault or problem and should not have been made to wait. We were "comped" by them waiving the $15 parking fee (yay). This was only the beginning of the problems however. Finally we got up to our room, which was an "upgrade", with jacuzzi tub, "king size walk-in" shower etc. Well, when we got into the "non-smoking" room, the bathroom REEKED of smoke. Then, we discovered that the jacuzzi tub that would fit two people "comfortably" was actually a NORMAL sized BATHTUB with jets in it, barely enough for ONE person, NOT two, especially not "comfortably". Then, the "king size" shower was a normal corner shower, again only big enough for ONE person. Part of the seal on the door was missing, letting a bunch of water out on the floor. My wife called down to the front desk at 6:40pm to get some towels to mop up the water mess, and 45 minutes later, we still had not received towels. She went down to the front desk, was told they had no towels there, and that they'd bring some up to the room "right away". She went up and finally someone came by 10 minutes later with towels. An HOUR to get towels! The hair dryer was non-operational as well. In the main part of the room, the bed was comfortable and the duvet nice, however there was NO SHEET to cover up with on the bed, ONLY the duvet. We either had to be boiling hot under the duvet or with no sheet for some coverage at least. It was hot in the room, the thermostat was turned down to 40F, which we knew it wouldn't go that low, but even with it turned that low, it really never went below 70F. The balcony door had to be opened to get any cool air into the room. The curtains also had holes in them that we could play "connect the dots" with. We went downstairs to check out, and we spoke to the Customer Service Agent on duty. He was empathetic and understanding to the situation, but without a manager on duty he said he could only lower our room rate to $169, which was the "standard room" rate. We felt this was unfair, but he said he couldn't do much. He assured us that we were told the wrong thing when we were told that the jacuzzi tub would fit two comfortably, and shouldn't have been told that. He also stated that the hotel was more of a business hotel that didn't really cater to just married couples. He asked the manager to call us at home later. My wife talked to the manager, Vas, when she called later, around 5pm. While she listened to the complaints at first, she was ready to say goodbye without offering anything else in the way of compensation. She asked what we felt would be fair, and we felt at least a room voucher for another night free, even though we'd like our money back, period. My wife was informed by Vas that she thought we were compensated "fairly enough" by the waived parking and the $35 room fee reduction. We were told that the matter would be "reviewed by management", and we would be contacted if THEY thought it was fair for us to receive any more compensation. By this time, Vas was rather condescending and smart in her tone. She also informed my wife that the hotel has had many just married couples, who were "more than pleased" with the jacuzzi tubs, that they were "always" advertised as a two person tub, and that they never had any complaints. My wife informed Vas that she was told that she was misled about the size of the tub by the Customer Service Agent we talked to at the hotel, and if they were advertised as two person tubs, that it was obviously false advertising. She also made it clear that the jacuzzi was the ONLY reason we rented the room to begin with, and the ONLY reason we were willing to pay $204 for the room, and that we'd had better stays at sub-$100 rooms. If we knew that the tub would be a ONE person bathtub with jets, we would have gladly stayed at one of the seven other hotels we called, without a jacuzzi tub, for a lot less money. AVOID this place like the plague!
