5 of 5  Great Rooms, efficient staff, A TripAdvisor Member, West Mids, February 27, 2009

For a Leeds City Centre Hotel you can't beat it. Not the cheapest but efficient with fantastic rooms - not dissimilar to the Leeds Marriott. What makes the Crowne Plaze is that it is in a quiet side of town, has large rooms and good staff.Breakfast now starts at 6.30 am which is excellent. Car park is a tad pricey at £10.00 per night. Breakfast good as is evening meal.

5 of 5  great hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, cheshire, December 14, 2008

Great location, only 5 minutes from train station and shops.

Lovely atmosphere. Staff very friendly.

rooms very comfortable, stayed on 5th floor, very quiet.

Food very good, had room service on 2nd night, arrived very promptly, were told probably 40 minute wait, it actually arrived after 20 mins.

Breakfast good, service good.

Bed extremely comfi, we had a bottle of wine and chocs in our room both days.

Bathroom spacious, tv speaker in bathroom really good, able to listen to the news whilst soaking in the bath.

Pool area very good, adequate size pool. jacuzzi, sauna, steam room.Leisure team very friendly.

Would stay here again.

5 of 5  A great hotel and staff so helpful, A TripAdvisor Member, Great Yarmouth, July 21, 2008

This hotel is great. The family room we had was hugh, with two double beds and it was spotless.

We had a meal in the Hotel Restaurant during the evening and the food was fantastic. The childrens menu is so varied, from shephards pie to chicken korma. My girls were tired as we got there late and the waitress bought our puddings to our room! If you book the evening meal in advance, when you book your room direct with the hotel it worked out an extra £5 and the total should have been £87!

There is also a lovely indoor swimming pool, with sauna and steam room, which is free.

It is a ten minute walk to the town centre and The Grand Theatre.

You do have to pay for car park though, which is £12.50 a day, but the car was secure and safe.

The staff just couldn't have been anymore helpful and friendly.

5 of 5  Loved the Crowne Plaza, A TripAdvisor Member, Co.Durham, April 15, 2008

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Leeds 11th-13th April 2008. Given some of the reviews that I had read about it after I had booked, I was slightly aprehensive however our stay was excellent. Our room was good size with a double bed, with all of the facilties you would expect, hairdryer, toiletries, mini bar etc. The cleanliness of our room and the hotel overall was excellent, with our room being cleaned each day we stayed. In other hotels I have stayed at, I have been woken in the night by other guests arriving back after a night out, however this did not happen at the Crowne Plaza - there was no noise during the night what so ever, even though I did see a few hen parties on their way our earlier in the night!

The staff were friendly and helpful, especially the staff in the leisure facilities. The leisure facilities were very good, with a good size pool; I can recommend the jacuzzi for anyone wanting to relax after a long day. The only fault I can point out about the hotel is the price of the bar food.

Although you have to pay for parking at the hotel, it was handy to be able to park on site, and as we stayed on a Friday and Saturday night this was a discounted rate, and much cheaper than if you had to find your own parking in the city centre for 48 hours.

Overall I would definitely stay at the Crowne Plaza again, and would recommend it to others.

5 of 5  Nice Hotel, Great location, A TripAdvisor Member, Germany, June 17, 2007

I stayed at this hotel 4 days with a group on a business trip. The front desk staff were very nice and did every thing they could to make our stay comfortable. I forgot my umbrella and electrical adapter. After one call to the front desk, I was able to borrow both items with an option to buy.

Rm 317 - the view was just ok I could see a few people walking by but nothing special. The breakfast consisted of eggs over easy, different meats, juice, coffee, fruits, yogurt and many other yummy things .The croissants- so soft and buttery...

The location of this hotel -great. We were far enough from the action that the streets adjacent to the hotel were not too busy, but close enough to eat a good and different meal everyday. I did not eat lunch or breakfast in the restaurant. I did eat at 2 restaurants that I really love and would definitely visit again - Wokamania - variety and a chocolate fountain and The Restaurant - great food selection and the presentation awesome. The Indian restaurant Nasaab , was ok as this was my first time eating Indian food - real Indian food.

My only gripe is internet service. I hated the fact that internet service was so pricey. I used in room service during one night of stay. I remember the pricing being something like this:

In room - 15 pounds - 24 hrs or 75pound - 1wk

Hotel's lobby computer - 3 pounds - 1hr

Public area wireless - 6 pounds - ?hr

Overall I would definitely stay here again if visiting Leeds.

Sidenote: Leeds is very big and busy city - not what I expected.

5 of 5  Great hen weekend at the Plaza, A TripAdvisor Member, Wrexham, United Kingdom, May 16, 2007

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Leeds 11-13th May for my hen weekend. Check in was very easy and the lady on reception was very nice. My mum and I stayed in the Trueman suite which was lovely and the little extras such as the fruit, chocolates and wine were a nice touch. Not long after getting to our room a member of staff came up to check everything was ok. 5 others stayed in rooms on the 2nd floor and they also seemed to be quite nice. Breakfast was excellent, can't say I particularly noticed a problem with the table and chairs; there was plenty of choice so you could do healthy or like me the full english! One good thing is that breakfast is served until 11.30am at the weekends, so you still get a lie in without missing it. The gym was small but with enough equipment for a decent workout and the pool area was really nice. Checkout was 12pm which gave plenty of time to pack and have breakfast before setting off. Our weekend was booked as a package with other activities included and after finding out wat it would cost to stay in the room we were in, I would say it is a little overpriced and the parking is very expensive. However, our experience was a very pleasant one.

5 of 5  Excellent hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, staffordshire, January 21, 2007

We have just returned from a weekend in Leeds and can only praise the excellent facilities at the Crown Plaza. We have stayed at lots of hotels both in the UK and overseas and this hotel is up with the best.

The room booked was an executive room on offer at £114 per night for two persons. This included a vast breakfast selection.

The room although slightly small was comfortable. Small things were appreciated ie bath robes, wine, fruit and a free newspapers delivered to the room.

The swimming pool is adequate although could have been warmer.

Car parking is secure and for 24hrs in a city centre the cost of £6 was really good value.

Staff were pleasant and eager to please.

We will return if a similar offer is to be had!!

5 of 5  A great stay at the crown plaza Leeds!, A TripAdvisor Member, england, October 1, 2006

Myself and my boyfriend stayed at the crown plaza for one night at the end of september 2006. We had a great, relaxing stay.

The rooms were lovely, very comfortable bed, hair dryer, ironing board, trouser press etc. I was very pleased with the room we had.

The location of the hotel is excellent, minutes walk to the shops and station etc.

Breakfast was lovely, everything you would expect to find. The staff were all very friendly and helpful in the restaurant.

The hotel has on-hotel parking however you have to pay £6 on a weekend and £10 on a week day for an over night stay.

Over-all we had a great stay at this hotel and I would recommend it to others and I would stay at this hotel again.

10/10

5 of 5  What a lovely stay!, A TripAdvisor Member, london, September 6, 2006

as a business lady, i have been stay so many hotels across the world. my pa booked this hotel for me for 3 nights, and i have to say, its a wonderful experience.

the telephonist was so helpful to give me the direction to hotel and fax the local city map for me the day before arrive. check in was fully prepared and fast, the chinese girl on desk was friendly and very professional. concierge is a lovely chap, he is full of local knowledge and so helpful. by the way, the italian restaurant he recommended to me was so tasty. rooms are average, but clean and quite. breakfast is busy, but it was always fully refill and so many choices. personnaly i dont fancy full english as start of the day, but i can order omellett instead. on the day of departure, i had express check out form and received my receipt after 2 days. really friendly and warm hotel in such a good location. Crowne plaza leeds is the top one in city center

4 of 5  City Centre, A TripAdvisor Member, England, May 10, 2009

This hotel is clean and comfortable and sited right in the heart of Leeds. It is efficiently run and well managed.

4 of 5  ok but not cheap, A TripAdvisor Member, cleethorpes, November 19, 2008

i have submitted a second review i received a request to verify the first review but could not access the link both these reviews are genuine.

stayed here a few days ago on a leisure break with my wife. 3 days stay cost approx £500.dbb.we felt the restaurant choice was limited it was exactly duplicated on two nights and if you did not have soup you had to pay for bread.that said all the staff were very friendly and helpful the hotel is 10 minutes walk from statioj and 15 minutes from shops.the pool is nice. the room air conditioning was very noisy and we switched it off. considering the location the room wa svery quiet however.generally this was a very satisfactory stay apart from reservations mentioned plese note car parking is 12.50 daily 7.50 at weekends and the car park is often busy

4 of 5  A little bit far out of the centre but good hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Chester, United Kingdom, November 13, 2008

I thought this hotel was closer to the train station that it actually was - not that it was far but carrying a heavy bag made it seem further!

The staff were really friendly, the bedroom was large and comfortable with a great view over the ring road (well at night it was nice anyway!) looking towards Kirkstall. There was a slightly random large desk in the room which jutted in towards the bed and the TV was in a cupboard (an irrational pet hate of mine!)

The conference rooms were large and generally good and the food was really tasty.

4 of 5  Acceptable for a Friday Night out, A TripAdvisor Member, Lancashire England, August 28, 2008

I have stayed at this hotel 2-3 times a month over the past two years and always book via Priority Club. The average rate I pay is £59 to £70 plus the parking. Watch out for this as the price is different midweek to weekend. The rooms are always clean and apart from check in being slow if you are not a PC holder I have never had any issues with the staff. The rooms are well equiped for Business and Recreational use.

The breakfast is pricey at £16, but if you cross the lights and go straight up there are coffee bars and cafes opening various times of the day. There is an ATM over the road to save changing money at the hotel for our foreign visitors. It is about 10 minutes walk from the Station and 15 minutes to the Headrow for the bright lights of Leeds.

It tends to be quite popular for girls night out and shopping breaks and I always seem to get a wedding thrown in with my stay!!

4 of 5  Good Value, A TripAdvisor Member, Newcastle,UK, August 27, 2008

As a Priority Club member (using Holiday Inn Express for business travel) I was sent an email inviting me to stay "2 nights for the price of 1" in an Executive Room. Cost was £93 for 2 nights with £8.50 a day for breakfast which represented good value.

Room was OK, though my partner was a bit concerned about a few stray hairs when we looked at the bathroom.

Good location, a short walk from the city centre but far enough away to not suffer any noise. Half a bottle of wine, fruit and chocolates left in the room on both days was a very nice touch.

Staff could have been a bit better. Restaurant Manager had his "power pants" on at breakfast, openly criticising his staff within the earshot of customers.

4 of 5  very clean, A TripAdvisor Member, nottingham, July 1, 2008

This is a large hotel which is fairly typical of the genre. The rooms are very clean (we stayed twice in 3 weeks). The swimming pool is what attracted us to stay here and we weren't disappointed. However the jacuzzi was out of order on our last stay. There is also a steam and sauna room

Breakfast is self service which is great for piggys! Full monty and/or continental available. They will also cook to order omlettes and even a small steak

For an extra cost you can also have a large variety of beauty treatments. I had a back massage which was fabulous.

Car parking is secure with a swipe entry and exit system. You can only exit by getting a pass from reception

4 of 5  Excellent Leisure Facilities, A TripAdvisor Member, Birmingham, November 9, 2007

I was slightly apprehensive about staying at this hotel after reading people's views on this website. I was in Leeds on business and stayed in this hotel for two nights as it is close to my workplace.

The room I stayed in was a standard double room and was very spacious. The room included a trouserpress, iron and ironing board, mini bar (mine was not locked), hairdryer, TV (limited freeview/sky channels), small round table with small two seater settee and chair, two dressing tables and tea/coffee facilities. There were also two chocolates on the pillow. The rooms are slightly dated though and they could do with new bathrooms but they are sufficient and useable. I had no problems with my room at all. The bed was comfortable and I slept really well.

One of the reviews on here said that the rooms have no literature and photocopied breakfast menus - the reason for this is that all of the literature is on the television (including opening times of leisure facilities, restaurant, bar and the room bill). The breakfast menu in the room was photocopied as it was the room service breakfast menu - photocopied to put outside your door the night before. The room service menu (for main meals.drinks etc) was not photocopied and looking through had quite a range.

When I stayed I used both the gym and the pool (needed something to do as was on my own). The gym was busy when I went down but I didn't have to wait for a machine. It is well equipped and complete with three TVs. The pool is a decent size and is a decent temperature. I found the changing rooms quite acceptable (need £1 for the lockers).

I had dinner in the restaurant for both nights. The food was lovely and the staff are very friendly. The only thing with the restaurant is that they do add a service charge which you don't seem to have a choice about paying. They have a specials menu which is quite good value and the normal menu to choose from. Never got to sample the puddings though as too full!

Breakfast is well catered for and includes continental meat/cheese, yoghurts, fruit, crossaints and danishes and cooked english breakfast (ie sausages, bacon etc.) I never had the cooked breakfast as I prefer continental but it all looked nice.

Checking in and out was quick and easy. On check in, if you want to charge things to your room they take a deposit from a card. This is then refunded on check out and you can choose which card to pay your extras on then. It is true that they add a parking charge onto your bill (I saw it on my TV bill), but on check out I didn't say anything and they asked me if I had a car parked outside - I said no and they took the charges off without any further words from me.

I am back there a few times over the next month or so for business and am perfectly happy to go back to this hotel.

4 of 5  Good base for short stay in Leeds, A TripAdvisor Member, wirral, August 23, 2007

We booked two rooms for a one night stay in Leeds for our daughter’s graduation.

The hotel is well located for the city centre, had parking facilities (£10 per night charge), and the service during our short stay was good.

The reception area, bar and restaurant were of a reasonable standard, and although we only had breakfast in the hotel, the selection for breakfast was good and the food was well cooked (buffet style).

The rooms were reasonably well equipped, although the furniture and decoration would benefit from updating, and as some other reviews have stated, appear a little "tired".

We didn't use the leisure facilities although they appeared to be ok.

Overall we would recommend this hotel for a short stay in Leeds, although perhaps not if you are looking for luxury facilities and rooms.

4 of 5  Great Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Harden, August 7, 2007

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza while visiting family in Leeds. Found the hotel easily enough & to be able to park my car was great. Yes they charged, but so what! I was glad to have the facility. I am sure they have to charge to control it. I would rather have a small charge, know that I can park my car in safety and not have to carry my luggage and use the trains. Staff on reception helpful, if not a little busy. Rooms were clean and comfortable and not noisy either, which for a city hotel I thought was excellent. I did go out in the evening, which I am sure most do being in the City Centre, but breakfast was good with nice strong coffee. Good brand and good hotel, would definately use again when I am next in Leeds

4 of 5  Value For Money, A TripAdvisor Member, West Sussex UK, May 14, 2007

Arrived at 8pm and quickly booked in at reception - 6th floor - Bernaud Suite - Sitting Room OK but setee a little'tired', otherwise bedroom and bathroom large and in good condition. Bath was corner bath, three-quarter size, with shower in bath - took a few minutes to get shower working properly but good pressure and water very hot. Towels, flannels & bathrobes in good size, good condition and soft .

Extras in room ie fruit, wine tea and coffee all OK - but why do hotels only leave a few longlife 'milkpots' - they are so small you get thru' them in no time!. Two TV's both remote control with built in radio so limited on radio station choice. Internet and 'phones all ok. Room had air- con that, although not noisy, is easy to hear at night. Suite had its own luggage and ironing board room with seperate WC in sitting room. Good size wardrobes with decent wooden coat hangers !

Restaurant looked dark and nearly empty so ate out nearby - there is plenty of choice within a 10 -15 minute walk.

Bed comfortable and is made with two twins being put together.Plenty of spare blankets etc

Vey quiet with no disturbance whatsoever.

Breakfast in restaurant was a normal affair - full cooked ,continental with plenty of fruit and cheese etc. However, the furniture is of cheap quality and small in size so its all a bit of a squeeze on a table for two. Service was swift and helpful.

Checkout was easy and polite.

All in all good value for money and I would stay in this hotel's suites again

4 of 5  Real Cracker, A TripAdvisor Member, cork ireland, October 31, 2006

Had the pleasure of staying at Crown Plazza for 3 nights October 27-30, superb location, great faciities and above all as pleasant staff as you could ask for, meals were great pint a bit dear, but the wellington across the road compensated.

4 of 5  good location, A TripAdvisor Member, london, October 13, 2006

We spent 2 nights at the Plaza after finding a very good promotion ( called " short break in Sunny Leeds " )for 2 nights b/b plus one dinner at their restaurant Chico latino in an executive room for Just £140 for 2 people which we thought was rather attractive to be missed....we tought there was a catch somewhere but really there wasn't!.....the rooms are modern and spacious with all the comforts you might expect ...including iron and ironing board ......the beds ultra comfortable ...and the bathroom nice and modern with all the usual trimmings.

The dinner was superb and the breakfast very sumptuos..the staff particularly attentive and the service in general very good.

There is not parking in site but is available with discount for about £ 10 for 24 hours in a multistorey car park near by.It did cost us £ 18 for 48 hours ... hardly expensive .Try that in London if you can !

The location is almost perfect as everything is within walking distance ,station included if you travel by train, shops bar restaurant and excet....

The only negative is that this is leeds and week ends are rather noisy, hotel guests included so .....there is a big chance that you will be woken up at 4 in the morning by some rather drunken individual who clearly had one too many.... as we were.....but then again i guess this is one the reason why you go to leeds to start with....

4 of 5  Comfortable stay at a standard 4* hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Western Massachusetts, June 30, 2006

Two of us stayed here for 1 night June 27-28, and were pleased with it. Booked through Priceline and paid $105+tax, which came to about $131 total.

Best points:

Clean, modern rooms

Location

Friendly, efficient staff

Minuses:

Nothing

This is a standard, modern four-star hotel in the ilk that American customers are used to. No need to worry about getting put into a room with two single beds -- their rooms with two beds are double beds. We got a room with either a queen or king size bed. The reception desk was well-staffed -- generally 2-4 people there, and the concierge was readily available.

The room was a good size even by U.S. standards, with a couple of comfortable chairs around a coffee table, along with a desk. Decor was non-descript modern. Room was quite bright, with windows facing out onto the main road (Wellington Street). The bathroom was clean and modern. Air-conditioning worked very well, and was a quiet hum.

The television was a standard size, with the main terrestrial stations and a few others. There was no clock at all, but this was true of all the three hotels we stayed in in England. Internet was available in the room if you had a laptop, but we didn't. There was an iron and a trouser press, along with a minibar and tea/coffee facilities. We didn't see a hair dryer, but it may have been in a drawer (didn't think to look there). There were a couple of complimentary bottles of mineral water and a chocolate, which was a nice touch.

Bed was very comfortable, but pillows, in the European custom, are relatively flat, so be sure to request extra pillows if you need them. Room was quiet at night as well as in the morning.

Location was quite convenient -- less than half a mile from Leeds train station (which is how we got to Leeds from London), and the main shopping area is under a mile away.

All in all, a satisfactory hotel. The published rate for the date we stayed was only $169/night (including tax), so we didn't get much of a price break, but it was worth what we paid.

4 of 5  Great Stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Nottinghamshire, UK, May 13, 2006

We only stayed in this hotel for one night but found both the service and room to be of an excellent standard. When we booked in we did find that we had booked a smoking room and they only had non smoking rooms left. As I am a Priority Club Member they did however upgrade my room at no extra cost. Being a member is free of charge and we have found it can have its perks. Its definalty worth becoming a member even if you don't stay in hotels very often as without this card I don't think they would have offered the upgrade.

Staff were both friendly and helpful at all times. The room was of a high standard and both clean and spacious. The lesiure facilities were good, but found it got quite busy around tea time with a mixture of hotel guests and paying members.

The hotel is only a 5 minute walk to the pubs, restaurants, bars and shops. It is also extremly close to the train station. We found it a great place to stay if you want to explore the city and would recommend it to all.

3 of 5  Seriously in need of a refurb, A TripAdvisor Member, UK, June 9, 2009

This is possibly the worst Crown Plaza I've ever stayed at. Tatty rooms, bodged repair jobs, a bathroom from the 1980's - I can't believe they charge premium prices for a premium room!

Back to the Marriott for me next time!

3 of 5  Average, not right in centre. No one on reception., A TripAdvisor Member, Rotherham, May 18, 2009

We got this as a top secret hotel on last minute.com and for £50 it was ok but wouldnt rush back. About a 10 min walk to centre. Seemed to be short staffed and there was either no one on reception or just one person on. Gym was ok. Staff in spa helpful. Room ordinary and dated. Bathroom could do with a refurb. We had a leak from the ceiling in the night and when we advised this the next morn the reply was 'Why didnt you say sooner?' Well we didnt want someone coming in the room at 3am when we realised!

3 of 5  Just OK, A TripAdvisor Member, Swansea, April 3, 2008

I stayed at this hotel for business purposes, and was involved in a very busy few days here. My room was good and well equipped for my purposes with drink making facilities/ iron and hairdryer. The bathroom was complete with shower and bath, well lit and pleasant. The room was similarly pleasant with broadband facilities and was spacious.

The food at this hotel was not great. I was here for two nights and this included having three lunches at the hotel. The food was repetitive in that the evening meal was practically identical to the lunch options, which was not ideal as there were four options to chose from, as well as a limited salad bar. The bar was similarly disappointing in that the wine and drink list was extremely limited, and prices were disgraceful. I think it's fair to say that to charge £6.50 for a 250ml glass of Ernst and Julio Gallo White Grenache is extortionate.

Had I only needed to stay here a night and not have to have lunch here, it wouldn't have ben too bad. That said, the disgraceful bar prices, thus, a blatant expolitation of guests would put me off ever considering a Crowne Plaza hotel in the future.

3 of 5  A little basic for a four star, A TripAdvisor Member, Gloucester, England, March 18, 2008

Different websites advertise this hotel as 4 stars others as 3. No tea and coffee in rooms, no hairdryer. However did receive an upgrade on arrival from double to twin double. Breakfast very expensive at £15.95 but there is a Starbucks opposite. Good location for shopping and the railway station.

3 of 5  Good location, but needs some TLC, A TripAdvisor Member, Cumbria, England, November 28, 2007

Booked by phone. Were asked if wanted to join as points member giving us early check in from 0830 ? and late check out 2pm. Arrived at hotel 1pm . Reception was busy and 2 staff booking in guests and trying to answer the phone at the same time.Room not ready, told to come back at 2pm. Room still not ready, finally got in room at 2.30. Booked executive double, room 523. extras included in room were small bottle of wine, fruit, chocolates, daily newspaper. Room looked a bit tired, bathroom smelt musty, this was a smelly shower curtain, saw maid and it was changed in 10 minutes. Did "finger dust" test on top of pictures - failed, plenty of dust. Bed and pillows comfy. Breakfast times godd 7.30 until 11.30 so no need to get up early. Good selection of cooked items, fruit, yoghurts etc which was kept toppped up

Easy 10 minute flat walk into city. Had to ring reception to tell them what newspaper i wanted, and ask about breakfast times-they never asked when we booked in

Overall not a bad stay but with a little attention to detail, more staff on reception at check in times and a makeover of the room this would be a better hotel. Nice pool, didnt use - forgot costume

3 of 5  Okay for a city break, A TripAdvisor Member, Suffolk, UK, October 23, 2007

Booked a family room for one night and paid aound £60 on a weekend deal via their website. The room was fairly standard with 2 double beds.

The deal included breakfast, which was pretty good, and the use of the leisure facilities. The pool was OK but a little on the cold side for our liking. Front of house staff were friendly enough. Parking at weekends is £6 for a 24 hour period which compares favourably with Leeds car park rates. I believe the rate doubles during the week. The hotel is a brisk 10 minute walk to the city's the main shopping area.

3 of 5  Great Pool and Gym, A TripAdvisor Member, Oundle, August 6, 2007

Haven't stayed here for a while but we found a really good 2 for 1 deal.

We are platinum members and we were given an upgrade to an exec room, the room and decor were 'tired' stains on the carpets and chairs were a little off putting, the bathroom was a little dirty looking. Keeping it in context the room was worth the 2 for 1!

The staff were wonderful, service is spot on

The gym and pool are very good indeed and quite new. I don't agree with the car park charge when the hotel own the car park and the hotel is outside the main city centre!

I would stay here again if another cheap deal comes up but wouldn't choose this hotel otherwise.

3 of 5  Nice, A TripAdvisor Member, Lincolnshire, UK, April 1, 2007

I stayed here for the weekend using reward points.

Checking was efficient and uneventful, the room was not up to the same crisp modern standard I have come to expect from this brand but was clean and well maintained (a bit small though).

It is about a 5 minute walk from the train station and is well placed in that it is just off the main shopping area but still within walking distance of all the action.

We did have one minor problem with our room however the staff were straight on the case and dealt with it.

The bar was quiet but welcoming with typical hotel bar prices but there are many places to drink for less within walking distance.

And finally, within 2 minutes from the hotel is the Nawwab curry house where I had the best curry I have ever had which considering I lived in Bradford for 7 years impressive.

So if I was in Leeds again I would probably stay here.

3 of 5  It would only take a little bit Extra to make this a good hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Perth, January 8, 2007

We had come to Leeds to be together as a family and to do some shopping. We like the IC Hotels Group and tend to stay with them, so the choice was determined by this and of how central the hotel was. It's a 10 minutes walk from the station.

There was only 1 person in Reception but check-in was immediate, efficient and pleasant. We had requested two double beds but when reserving had been told that they might not be able to make this available due to the fact that they had a group of 140 people that night. So, on arrival only a Standard Room was available (1 double and 1 sofa-bed). However, we were offered a Junior Suite which took us to the next pricing category. We were shown both rooms and though the Standard Room was perfectly okay, spacious, clean, with a nice bathroom, we decided to treat ourselves to some luxury, especially as we planned to stay in the evening and sleep in the next morning.

Both non-smoking rooms had no smell of smoke whatsoever.

The Junior Suite had a feeling of 'opulence', with a big lounge (couch was stained though) with an additional toilet and a 'luggage room' with ironing board. The 'sleeping quarters' were spacious with a huge bed that felt perfect to disappear into to watch a nice TV programme or read a good book while sipping some wine. Maybe lucky for us, the minibar was out of order and a note suggested we contact Room Service instead. Internet phone connection was available in the room. We did not enquire about the charge.

The ensuite bathroom had a corner bath with power shower. There were no bathrobes, only two empty hangers with a note 'The Bathrobe is for your personal comfort during your stay' - We phoned Reception and were told that no bathrobes were available but they would check nevertheless. A few minutes later there was a knock on the door and the Receptionist had two bathrobes in her hands! We were delighted. Toileteries were still 'old style' (full of chemicals and toxic ingredients) but found that their H2K toileteries also has an aromatherapy range but... the ingredients were similar to their standard range. Let's hope that the REACH directives will bring a change to the ingredients in all products we put on our skin.

The individual air-con temperature was not quick to respond to our settings, though very silent. We opted to use extra blankets instead. There was a good range of pay-as-you-go films, at £8.95 per film.

We decided to have a snack in the evening, but after waiting some time and not seeing any personnel we decided to go back to the room. Maybe we should have gone to the Indian Restaurant, just a few minutes away, towards the station, but we ordered room service instead. Though generous portions, the toast of our Club sandwich was burned.

The gym was a health-club and all the equipment for a workout was available, till 8pm.

Breakfast wass adjacent to the entrance lobby but we can not comment on their breakfast as we were asked to come in late, due to the group departing. When we came, nothing was left, but the credit was converted towards lunch. Lucky we were staying on in Leeds... My daughter was enthusiastic about their Chicken Caesar Salad.

We discovered only recently that the IC Hotel Chain operates as a franchise and that each hotel is privately owned. While this hotel has the 'allure' of a Crowne Plaza, there are many aspects which are certainly deficient, service being one of them, though we cannot fault Saq in Reception who was most helpful and seemed to do many jobs in one. The next day there was much more personell around, so maybe the Christmas period had diluted the available manpower?

In this case it is up to ICHG to evaluate premises better. We were on the 6th floor and could still hear the traffic. Insulation in the rooms is not good as we could hear the people talking in the room next to us and slamming doors as well as the workmen the next morning who were sawing something somewhere. These are structural points which need to be evaluated. These impinge upon the quality of one's stay. The stain on the couch is also not tolerated when those coming here expect a Crowne Plaza environment and all this entails. Overall, too many things are not in working order (no bathrobes, no minibar, no insulation, nobody in the restaurant) There does not seem to be a person in this hotel who checks all the rooms and a maintenance dept which deals with broken down items. At this stage we would not come to this hotel again.

We hope that this review is also of help to those who own the hotel because (apart from insulation) all points can be easily corrected.

3 of 5  Average, A TripAdvisor Member, Lichfield, England, January 7, 2007

Stayed on business early Jan 07.

Hotel was very quiet, not many guests. Check in was thus easy. Had an executive room on the fifth floor.

Room was fairly pleasant, a large double bed and a tidy bathroom. The presence of a iron and ironing board was appreciated as this is rare in most hotels.

Lack of deliveries over the Christmas period meant there was only one beer available on tap in the bar.. Not to worry, plenty of restaurants and bars close by.

The only big disappointment was the breakfast. The bacon had been left out too long and was hard and chewy, the remainder average at best.

Car parking is available on site but this is rather expensive and not large so may be a problem if the hotel is busy.

Overall an average experience and would stay here again on business. If on a private visit I would stay elsewhere.

3 of 5  OK but ...!, A TripAdvisor Member, North Staffordshire, August 24, 2006

The Crowne Plaza Leeds is not up to the standard of other Crowne Plaza's. It is better than a Holiday Inn but no that much. Restaurant service was OK but not exceptional, and food was OK but not worth the price paid.

There are better hotels in Leeds to stay in, and the Crowne Plaza has a lot of work to do to bring it up to acceptable "Crowne Plaze" standard. £10 to park for residents is a disgrace. If I was not on expenses I would refuse to pay.

Overall, stay here if you have to, if not there are better hotels in Leeds.

2 of 5  Dreadful bathroom, A TripAdvisor Member, Staffordshire, April 15, 2009

Overall the hotel was fine - not cheap but it had a swimming pool which was of an adequate size. Our bedroom and the whole of the floor smelt strongly of new carpet and fluff from the carpet stuck to everything. The room itself was fine. In fact the word "fine" and "adequate" keep springing to mind as suitable adjectives for most of the hotel. Location was quite good. I have to say the staff were very good - a credit to the hotel. Breakfast was disappointing and the dining room was crammed between 09:30 am and 10:30 am. The food was not very good and they kept running out of things. What really let the stay down was the small, old fashioned bathroom. It really was not acceptable in a hotel of this price. The receptionist explained they were redecordating the bedrooms and laying new carpets first as this was easier than replacing the bathrooms. Believe me, they need to replace the bathrooms. Overall I much prefer Bewleys but they don't have a pool. The car parking is extortionate.

2 of 5  Characterless business hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Aylesbury, UK, November 13, 2008

I stay here every other week for a couple of nights - work obviously.

There have been several times when I have had to be booked out due to problems with the rooms - there are rooms on the 2nd floor where the smell of chlorine from the pool is overpowering and others where the noise from the a/c prevents sleep.

The staff are great - well the check in staff, the Ops Manager......

Don't bother with eating or drinking here - the bar has the atmosphere of a morgue, dinner is just plain awful

The bathrooms could ALL do with refurbishment - they are Holiday Inn standard or worse

And the parking fees are a joke

Half term break with teenage children. Staff were excellent ... reception staff friendly and helpful. Food in the restaurant was very poor ... not acceptable even for a large chain hotel. ( however front of house staff were excellent ) Facilities were good but the swimming pool and shower area are in desperate need of immediate attention. About 10 minutes walk along a busy road from the centre of Leeds. 5 mins drive to cinema and restaurant complex .Complaints about Parking Charge on the web site but this is clearly shown on tariffs and in reception... where else would you park your car in Leeds city centre All in all ok .

2 of 5  Not great!, A TripAdvisor Member, london, September 11, 2008

Leeds has some very nice and original hotels, but the Crowne Plaza is not one of them. Its OK, but generally rather drab and smells a bit musty. Considering the price you can do a lot better.

I do have a couple of gripes. First, I booked for 2 nights, but did not need the second night and told them this at about 12.45 on the second day. The room had not been made up by that time. In other hotels I have stayed in they will waive the cost of the second night, but not the Crowne Plaza! They charge a £50 early cancellation fee since they need 24 hours notice of cancellation. In my line of work I can never be sure how long the job will last, so there is no way I would use the Crowne Plaza again.

Secondly, although they are not in the immediate city cente, and have acres of car parking, they charge guests an overnight fee of £12.50 for car parking. I think that is a bit mean.

Given the amount of choice available in Leeds I shall not be returning to the Crowne Plaza.

This is a very utilitarian accommodation experience! Mainly, it's like every other Crowne Plaza or its ilk you've ever stayed in your life.

Distinctive features of this one are:

- it's location on the fringe of the city centre in an industrial park

- it's cranky staff

Rooms are large and clean. I can't remember anything about the bathroom, which means it must have been fine.

But it's just not fun, in any way if you see what I mean. I also recommend that you do not cross the Reception staff. They have a rather soviet approach to customer service.

2 of 5  Not recommended, A TripAdvisor Member, Scotland, August 10, 2008

The Hotel is quite central - so easy walking distance to centre of Leeds. (that's the good bit!)

Firstly the hotel is hot, very very hot! Outside temp was about 18 degrees - inside it was like a furnace. The air con is totally useless - not up to the job!

The bathroom was in need of refurbishment and was dirty with lots of hairs all over the floor and sink.

Dinner in the restaurant highlighted that the staff were certainly some of the most unpleasant in the business - especially the restaurant manager.

Room service breakfast arrived on time - unfortunately I asked for Granola and got a packet of Banana Museli and the toas had been wrapped in foil - resulting in it being all soggy!

I didn't pay for the stay as it was a business trip and my employers paid.

There are plenty of better hotels in Leeds!

Good luck

2 of 5  Tired Rooms - Poorly Managed, A TripAdvisor Member, West Yorks, January 14, 2008

Stayed weekend 2 nights, booked a deluxe room (612) on their web site 2 4 1 great value but, although this hotel is very well located for Leeds central and loads of pubs & places to eat and nightlife. The hotel itself appears poorly managed.

Paid online but they charged me double but refunded, we were supposed to have the executive package (newspapers, bathrobes, slippers etc) checked in ok, not asked what newspaper we wanted, the room was not very big for deluxe, ok but tired decor and fixtures, no dressing table & mirror so missus had to sit on floor in front of mirror to do hair, bed was broken but comfortable, (portable fan heater provided in room as heating not very good) room was set up for 1 person, had to ring down to reception for bathrobes, slippers and pillows, also had to ring up on the saturday for newspaper as we were not asked at check-in which one required but none left so ordered for sunday.

The swimming pool is small and 4 adults struggle to get a decent swim, good jacuzzi & steam room, sauna is poor.

Breakfast times very good and breakfast plentyful (got free breakfast both mornings for both of us due to credit card overcharge).

My advice is get an exceptional deal to stay at this hotel as we did (£93 for weekend inc freebie breakfast) it is not worth paying any extra for, great location though for visiting Leeds and the nightlife.

2 of 5  No Way a Crowne Plaza, A TripAdvisor Member, Liverpool, November 26, 2007

Stayed here recently for a stag weekend and managed to get a good rate for a Crowne Plaza, but in all honesty this is no better than a standard Holiday Inn.

The building itself looks fairly dated as does the lobby area and all public areas. The room was ok in size but was sold as having 2 double beds, but when we got there it had 1 double and 1 tiny single pull out bed with a really thin mattress. The room decoration was ok but in need of modernising and the shower was fairly good but the bathroom was cramped.

Breakfast is not worth paying extra for as while it is plentiful and there is a good choice, you need to get down early to get the freshest stuff as it was a bit stale by the time we had it. The staff were friendly and tried their best to resolve the problem they had caused, but all in all it was a very disappointing stay for a Crowne Plaza.

2 of 5  Tired and dirty rooms, A TripAdvisor Member, Leicester, UK, August 13, 2007

Having stayed in other Crowne Plaza hotels in the UK I knew what to expect from this 4 star hotel and it was not what I got!

The standard rooms were tired looking and dirty. For example, in the bathroom the towel rail was falling off, the skirting board was swollen, the button on top of the temperature dial in the shower was missing, and there were stains on the curtains, floor and light fitting. One of the telephones did not work.

There also wasn’t the usual literature about the hotel e.g. where the facilities were, times for breakfast and general information about Leeds. Also there was a limited choice of tea/coffee - no Earl Grey, Herbal or hot chocolate.

However the hotel did have some good things going for it such as good food, fast room service, nice lobby and meeting areas.

I have written to the managers with photographic evidence and also suggested they look at this site!

2 of 5  not a family hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, coatbridge, February 22, 2007

I stayed with my wife and my 18 mth old daughter for two nights. When booking online I requested a travel cot for the baby and I called a few days before arrival to confirm this. Upon arrival at the hotel I had to ask twice before I finally got one. Later that night we went to the bar for some food and I asked for a highchair for the baby. The bar tender (foreign) turned around surveying the gantry to see if he had any. I had to explain what it was, he then headed off to find the duty manager to see if they had any. The food in this hotel is reasonable but seriously overpriced, as is the drink (approx £11 for a glass of wine and a pint). The rooms are a bit tired and could benefit from some refurbishment. I still await a response from the hotel regarding my comments card, I was assured that the duty manager responds to them all. if visiting Leeds try the novotel, it far better value for money and alot more child friendly.

2 of 5  Below expectations, A TripAdvisor Member, Kidderminster, Worcestershire, November 14, 2006

I stayed here prior to a training event, but was not pleased. When I checked in few of the electronic keys were working and although I asked for a quiet room I didn't get one. Because the hotel is located near major inner-city roads, you can't open the windows anyway.

Evening meals in the bar should be avoided. I had fish and chips for £10 and that consisted of a small portion of deep fried, battered cod and a modest amount of chips. Cheese and biscuits at £8, gets you three pieces of cheese and about six biscuits, plus a few grapes.

The bedroom walls are very thin. Not only can you hear your neighbours' televisions clearly, you can also hear them urinating. Charming!

Breakfast was relatively poor for the price charged. Bacon with burnt rinds and a modest amount of unappetising croissants. Coffee strong and 'muddy'.

There was no lock to the door of our training room, but the events person said that wasn't a problem as they'd pull a table across at lunch time!

There are bound to be better and cheaper hotels in Leeds. Go somewhwere else.

2 of 5  Not as Expected, A TripAdvisor Member, Wakefield, United Kingdom, October 30, 2006

Crowne Plaza Hotel - Stayed here for one night as I was attended a function at the hotel and it made sense. The wait to check in was far too long, a large group were checking in, but only one assistant made it a very long wait - once at the desk, checked in without any fuss and was soon in the room.

The room was disappointing, slightly dark and seemed unclean -but this was just the dark colours of brown and to be honest, the room was slightly dated, the room certainly needs refreshing. Didn't eat in the hotel other than at the function and that was good.

In the room, I had a half a bottle of red wine, two complimentary chocolates and two small bottles of water - all very nice touches. The bathroom was very dated, white and was dirty (through age) and needs a total refresh - no complimentary bath products other than a "Lux" bottle strapped to the wall - this seemed rather low-cost.

The walls to the rooms seem thin as I could hear doors banging and people talking in the next room.

Much better hotels in Leeds.

Check out was quick the next day - though the rooms need updating, the staff were friendly throughout. I will stay somewhere else next time in Leeds

1 of 5  Shouldn't be a Crowne Plaza, A TripAdvisor Member, Manchester, October 30, 2007

This hotel is dirty and badly managed here's some examples from my room...

The door had been kicked in and the safety lock was broken and door frame split

Rusty towel rails

warped wardrobe doors

stained evacuation details on room door

scratched mirror

stains on bathroom walls, bedrooms walls and roof

dirty carpets

broken toilet roll holder

chipped and dirty bathroom sink unit

locked mini bar

filthy window sills

no guest files in the rooms

photocopied breakfast menus

In the gym the toilets and changing room were filthy and smelt of pee

The gym showers have black mold all over the roof

In the pool the rails to the hot tub are so dirty as is the steam outlet in the steam room

As for service here is a few examples over our 2 day stay...

I have a priority club card and asked if I could have an upgraded room as this is usually offered as standard I was told the hotel was full.

Complained about the room again was told the hotel was full

Checked online rooms available including upgraded rooms!

Some of the cons I noticed going on...

Ordered room service when it arrived I signed the bill but wasn't left a copy I didn't look closely but noticed I had been given a bowl of chips I didn't order most likely I was charged for these.

Went to bar and ordered 4 drinks and charged to the room when I looked a noticed they had overcharged 2 drinks as something more expensive when I asked the barman suddenly lost the grasp of English and said sorry I don't speak English! After 20mins I got the bill changed and it was £5 less.

I then looked at my bill on the TV and noticed a £6 parking charge, I called reception and was advised they charge everyones rooms and it would be removed on check out which is annoying as I usually wouldn't go and checkout at reception in this chain and this is one of their offerings to Priority Club members. On checkout I thought I would wait to see if I was asked about the parking guess what, I wasn't! I mentioned it to them and then they removed it. This was causing problems at reception as people noticed after they had checked out that they had been charged.

Notice a pattern here? the hotel in all depts. are trying to get a bit extra, this seems too common to be coincidence. The hotel uses photocopys instead of authorised Crowne Plaza materials in the rooms it shows this hotel is trying to save or con money at every opportunity.

Over all I would advise avoiding as this place is very poor for price (not worth more than £45) and doesn't meet brand expectations, this is why I have rated it so low. If this was a cheap unbranded hotel then maybe I would have rated it a bit higher.

1 of 5  AWFUL ! Dirty & Dissapointing ;o(, A TripAdvisor Member, Manchester, September 30, 2007

We booked this hotel for the weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary. With the hotel being a 4*, we expected a high standard of quality. The hotel was also expensive. First impressions on arriving outside were that the hotel looked dated and was in need of a facelift. The reception area looked old fashioned and crammed. The rooms were tiny and in desperate need of a good facelift. They needed painting and all the furniture replacing. The bathroom was filthy and hadn't been cleaned, the bath and the toilet were awful and dirty. The bed was broken, with the bedding dirty. We didn't stay long enough to even un pack out bags, we had seen enough, We complained to the hotel management who were understanding and gave a full refund. This was a bad start to what was supossed to be a celebration wknd. We re located to a nearby hotel (Jurys Inn) which was fantastic value for money. I wouldn't recomend this hotel in a million years !

1 of 5  High Price for Low Quality, A TripAdvisor Member, San Antonio, TX, June 12, 2007

This hotel's website looks amazing: great rooms, great gym, great pool, and boasts wireless internet in the lobby and high speed in the rooms. The pictures of the gym and pool cleverly use mirrors, and they are actually MUCH smaller than they appear. The rooms are run down: old carpet, irons and TVs, scary bathrooms with scarred sinks and dingy tiles. All have extremely poor air conditioning and one of those cheap fridges that charges you automatically if you even move something in it. How do I know "all?" becsue my group rented over 50 rooms here, and the complaints are universal. The management wouldn't budge on the exhorbitant charges for anything. Internet - yes, but at a cost of 15 POUNDS a day in your room ($30). Even the lobby wireless is 6 pounds an HOUR. Parking gets put on your bill automatically (another 10 pounds/day) if you have a car or not, and you have to fight with the front desk to fix your bill. My worst first-world hotel experience, and I've been all over. Trust me - stay somewhere else!

1 of 5  Dirty dated bathroom, A TripAdvisor Member, England, April 10, 2007

We booked 1 night at this hotel. Just as well as we all waited till we got home to shower. The bathroom was more like the standard of a really bad public facility. Dirty, chipped, rails not attached.

After complaining we were told by receptionist that they get a lot of complaints about the rooms.

The jumped up chap in the gym would not show me how to use the equipment either. He was apparently the personal trainer and that was obviously beneath him to show me.

The breakfast thank goodness was included in our rate. It was not what this chain usually provide standard wise.

If you can get a good deal to stay here then fair enough, if you can't then you will be disappointed at the cost for poor standards.
