2 of 5  what a nightmare!, A TripAdvisor Member, Kenosha, WI, January 20, 2005

We stayed at the Sheraton Safari for two nights during the International Builders Show. I didn't go to any theme parks so can't comment on ease of shuttle servie to them. I do know that the absolute lack of knowledge regarding the shuttles to the Orlando Convention Center was appalling. Here are a list of my complaints of this hotel.

First, and this is the worst of all, on our first evening there, we awoke around 3 am scratching our legs and arms madly. We searched the rooms for mosquitos, assuming that was the culprit for the numerous bites on us. We contacted housekeeping around 7 am and they sent up a manager to help us. After unsuccessfully checking the bed for "bed bugs" (what are those!?!?!) she told us we were probably bitten by fleas. She explained that the Sheraton is a pet-friendly hotel and they always treat rooms with anti-flea spray after guests leave. She went on to say, however, that not all guests report that they have pets in the rooms so they don't always know to treat. We were appalled - we counted 22 bites between the two of us! She offered to transfer us to a new room - an offer we pounced on. She also said she would talk to a manager to find out any other way they could make us feel comfortable staying at the Sheraton. I was contacted about 20 minutes later and was told that they would be 'comp-ing our stay.' due to the inconvenience. I was pleasantly surprised that they chose to handle the situation in the appropriate manner. Unfortunately, upon returning home yesterday, I found that they had charged for one night. I will now be spending time on the phone trying to rectify this.

Second, don't go near the 'concierge desk' or whatever they want to call the desk that pushes time-shares on you relentlessly even when you just go to get a restaurant recommendation. There were three women behind the desk that were constantly trying to jump away from you so that they could assist another client - meaning they wanted to make sure they could get a 'referral card' to whatever restaurant or attraction you were inquiring about into the person's hands. They must get some major referral fees to be so hyper about giving out these 5%-10% discount cards! I've never felt so ignored and frankly, insulted!

Third, I don't know what the prior posters were talking about when it comes to smoking. We tried to sit poolside to relax a bit our first afternoon there and were driven away by seven different people smoking by us.

The rooms we stayed in were nice rooms - we had a king suite - meaning a separate small sitting area with loveseat, two chairs, a desk and a small kitchenette. The two free water bottles a day were nice as was the empty fridge for our use. There were plenty of nice restaurants nearby but you wouldn't want to cross the streets for any of them! There were, I think, about 7 different restaurants in the strip mall directly next to the hotel.

If you could stay in this room for about $100-$120 a night, it is worth it but anything over (like the $179 we had to pay because of the convention in town) it certainlydoesn't rate the four stars they claim it has.

5 of 5  Good hotel, good location, A TripAdvisor Member, Leeds, England, June 24, 2009

We stayed at the Sheraton Safari for 5 nights and I have to agree with fellow advisors that the hotel was excellent value for money. The room was large and clean. The bathroom was a little dark and needed some modernising but was ok. The public areas were clean and tidy and the corridors were all well maintained. We used the complimentary shuttle buses to get to and from Disney and found the staff helpful enough when we need to get a taxi to Universal. FYI if you aren’t driving I would recommended staying in a Disney hotel instead, we did this on our return to Orlando the week after and found that the Disney shuttles are a lot more frequent which made life easier.

On the whole we enjoyed our stay at this hotel, the only warning I would give is that the staff are keen to take any opportunity they can to try and sell you the Starwood Hotel group time share offer. We got suckered in to this and ended up being stuck at another hotel for a full morning, not as much fun as Magic Kingdom I tell you! Other than this we would say a great place to stay.

5 of 5  Each year our grandkids insist on staying at Sheraton Safari.., A TripAdvisor Member, St. Petersburg, June 17, 2009

We have been staying at Sheraton Safari twice a year since 2003. Our grand daughter fell in love with the place and so did we. The staff is always pleasant and VERY helpful. Rooms are comfortable, clean and well decorated. Our grandkids love the pool and especially the snake slide. The buffet is a great way to start your day. Excellent staff and the food is very good. We notice the same staff stay after stay. That tells me they are happy with their jobs and that says a lot for the hotel. We have stayed on Disney property in past years and since discovering the Sheraton we have looked no further.

5 of 5  Fantastic hotel, would highly recommend, A TripAdvisor Member, shropshire, May 20, 2009

We moved here from another hotel, on arrival they could not find our booking, however they were so helpful and friendly it didn’t really matter. The lobby was large, the kids loved looking at the alligators every morning, they even got there photo done with one on Saturday, it did cost $15 however it went to conservation so I didn’t mind.

We had a one bedroomed suite, it was large and the beds were really comfortable and clean. Only thing the kitchen didn’t have was a toaster, but a trip to Wal-Mart helped, buying a $6 toaster, so problem solved. And the hotel didn’t mind.

Swimming pool was large and the snake slide was a bonus, it was always quite except on the Saturday and Sunday when they had a group of high school students check in, however the hotel had security out, just had to stop my kids swimming for those 2 nights.

Hotel is close to all the local restaurants, would recommend, Joes crab shack, sizzler, and the New York china buffet. There is a supermarket in walking distance (Winnie Dixie) just behind the staybridge suites.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, shame they don’t do free breakfast, but you can’t have everything

5 of 5  Daughters First Trip to Disney, A TripAdvisor Member, Portsmouth, NH, April 26, 2009

We Stayed at the Sheraton Safari in Orlando using my husbands starwood points. We stayed on the "preffered" Starwoon guest floor. Our room was on the third floor facing the pool. It was nice and clean and quiet. We absolutly LOVED staying there. The decor was not our taste, but the location and service was exceptional!! The hotel provided a bus to all the Disney theme parks (shared with other hotels) It runs on a shedule, that at times was not long enough at the park! My daughter got a kick out of the alligators in the loby too!

We had so much fun at the pool as well. We wish the kids pool had been heated as well as the big pool. The location was excelent as well. We were arcoss the street from a 7-11, Chilis, Macaroni Grill, Pizza Hut and TGI Fridays was around the corner.

The breakfast at the hotel was over priced for what you got, so we went across the street to Dunkin Donuts most mornings. We are planning to go to Orlando in a couple years to do the parks again, and will definitly stay there again!! Great location and clean hotel!

5 of 5  A great place to stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Illinois, April 15, 2009

We were a group of 5 - grandma, daughter-in-law, 3 kids. We had a one bedroom suite that I got through Expedia including airfare, very reasonable. I was happy to be able to sleep in the living room with doors closed so that my snoring didn't bother the others. We used the free shuttle to get to Disney World. The kids pooped out by 4pm and we went back to the hotel. There is no way to get back to the parks for the evening except by cab which costs $31 but there are late shuttles coming back. We had a refrigerator and microwave so we had breakfast and a few meals in our room. Even with 2 teenagers needing a bathroom it wasn't a problem because the sink and mirror with a large vanity was separate from the bathroom. My daughter-in-law has back/shoulder problems and she said that the bed was okay.

5 of 5  No Problems Whatsoever!, A TripAdvisor Member, New Haven County, CT, April 7, 2009

After reading reviews of other hotels in the Disney World area we were a little skittish. However, the reviews of the Sheraton Safari were all pretty positive. We arrived 4 hrs before their published check in time and were accomodated with a better room with no upcharge since our room was not ready (had booked on hotels.com). Everyone we dealt with were friendly and very helpful. Our room had slight deferred maintenance (wallpaper seam above bathroom door was unglued and wrinkle in carpet as you entered the room). Very clean! Grounds maintained nicely. Great location for Disney. We were ground floor right next to playground and restrooms and never heard any noise. Very quiet at night both in the hallways and outside.

Only negative was that concierge offers discounted tickets but you must take the timeshare tour of an nearby Sheraton property. That affair took 3 1/4 hrs out of a Sat morning. So be prepared. We did get two day tickets for two adults at Disney (went to Epcot & Animal Kingdom) for $200 for both of us.

We charged the breakfast buffet to our room. The charge included a 4.00 tip so be prepared for that.

Plenty of reasonably priced restaurants right in the area. Could possibly walk to some as there were sidewalks. The souvenir places are stocked with really junky things. Don't bother with them.

5 of 5  vacation in Orlando, A TripAdvisor Member, MI, January 30, 2009

Very nice hotel, very nice staff. Clean rooms. Great price, and conveniently located near many businesses, and close to the theme parks.

5 of 5  Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, England, UK, September 8, 2008

Having read some of the hotel reports on here I was a little worried - Having also upgraded to the suite.

This hotel is great.

The location is less than 5 minutes drive from the entrance to WDW and has Walgreens and restuarants all located nearby.

Having upgraded to the suite we were pleasantly surprised - We are a family of 4 and having the extra room made the holiday even better.

All facilities were there and in good working order and whilst there were some parts of the furniture which were not 100% this in no way detracted from the quality of the accomodation.

Room was cleaned every day with free coffee and towels changed every day. Swimming pool was OK, there were repainting this whilst we were there.

We had a room on the 6th floor, my only complaint was it got noisy around the pool until 11pm but this happened only a couple times at the weekends.

Overall real good value for money in a great location - would recommend enquiring about the suites as it gives you so much more room.

5 of 5  Another fab stay at the Sheraton Safari, A TripAdvisor Member, Brighton, United Kingdom, August 14, 2008

We stayed at the Sheraton Safari for 21 days in July & I am astounded by some of the recent negative reviews. Admittedly, it is not The Ritz but, for the price, you wouldn't expect it to be. It is very clean, in a great location and still the best hotel we've stayed at in Orlando (& we've stayed in quite a few over the last 20 years!!!).

The rooms are spacious, very comfortable & cleaned every day. The pool is fantastic - large, heated & with a huge python slide that the kids absolutely loved (so did I!!!). The reception staff couldn't have been more helpful & friendly.

I can't comment on the food as we never ate at the hotel - I would recommend 'Ponderosa' for a yummy inexpensive breakfast buffet, & 'Ci Ci's Pizza' for all-you-can-eat soup, salad, pizza & desserts. I would also recommend buying 'Kids Eat Free' cards before you travel - they saved us an absolute fortune & were a real god-send!

If you've booked a stay at the Sheraton Safari then you needn't worry - you will love it!!! It is an ideal base for a truly memorable family holiday.

Finally - aswell as Disney, Universal Studios etc... , you MUST go to Discovery Cove if you can. It isn't cheap but it really is worth every penny - pure heaven!!! We still can't stop talking about it!!!

Can't wait to return next year - WE LOVE ORLANDO!!!!!!

4 of 5  Good value, great location, older beds and needs some TLC., A TripAdvisor Member, Collinsville, Connecticut, June 22, 2009

Attempting to provide detail not given by others. We stayed on the first floor of building 4 housing the suites. Our room had a living room with a neutral colored couch that was fairly comfortable yet with a few small stains and tears, and was a sofabed with a very uncomfortable mattress - you could feel the metal bars. Not sure if the cost of the suite was worth it over the regular hotel rooms, which are fairly large and have sofa areas - the kitchenette is probably the best feature of the suites. One bug was in the living room, looked like a small June bug - we killed it and noted the second day that it had not been vacuumed up. There's a nice sized flat screen HD TV, and internet access. the carpet did not look or smell dirty, as opposed to some folks reviews. Next to the living room is a desk and kitchenette with microwave, fridge, sink and some utensils. We did not receive bottled water like some others mention, but did have coffee & tea set ups. The bathroom is split with the sink in a hallway to the bedroom, with the toilet and shower in a separate closed door area. Convenient if one is using the sink while the other is in the bath, but the bath\toilet area is very small. Our bathroom was very clean and had one wall with fresh paint, but the ceiling area in the shower was peeling. We suspect folks don't notice that the switch for the fan in the bathroom (no window) is outside of the room - and helps to clear the steam in the bath. Next to the sink is a small closet. The bedroom is almost the size of a usual hotel room, with 2 queen beds, another flat screen TV and chest, a large full closet with safe. Our room looked out to the pool - which gets very noisy at night - loud parties until midnight. Perhaps higher floors don't get as much noise. The two queen beds were old, creaky, and not as comfortable as most Sheratons. A nice feature is two thermostats - one in the living room, and one in the bedroom that can be set to different temps. Both blasted out cold A/C nicely, as it was 100+ degrees during our stay. The gift shop doubles as a small pantry, with ice cream, sodas, and snacks available. No milk, but the bartender will sell you small grade school cartons for $3 each. The Animal Kingdom African decor is nicely done, and there is a fish tank in the lobby with small alligators. The concierge was friendly, and can arrange Disney tickets there so you do not have to wait in line at the park. We had heard the free transport to Disney could be dicey, so we skipped that. It is true every chain restaurant is within walking distance or very short drive to the hotel. Competing pizza delivery places nearby slip offers under the door each night - we ordered from one and received tasty pizza in about 45 minutes. The pool is quite large and is a kid magnet with the snake slide. The pool area has a tropical garden theme with a Monkey Bar that has mysterious hours but gets quite active when it is open. A kid's arcade is in the hotel, and it is pet friendly. It's a one exit drive on I-4 to Disney, so an easy commute to the parks.

4 of 5  Great Pool & Slide - Good size room if you are travelling with kids, A TripAdvisor Member, Sydney, June 20, 2009

This hotel is a good alternative to the Disney value resort hotels hotels. We stayed here on SPG points after having to scramble to fill in a week when the Swine Flu outbreak stopped us from travelling to mexico.

The rooms were large with a large in room safe, a big drawcard for this hotel is the pool, theres a Python waterslide that kept all the kids ( and a couple of adventurous adults entertained for hours) . We were put in a room that faced the road and asked to be moved, was really noisy, the property has several buildings no noise at all in the 2nd room.

You can buy your disney and other park tickets at the tour desk within the hotel.

4 of 5  10 out of 10, A TripAdvisor Member, Birmingham, June 18, 2009

Have stayed here two years on the trot now.

Our first week was spent on I Drive in a Holiday Inn and all I could think about was moving to the Sheraton!

I prefer the Lake Buena Vista location, I found I Drive too tacky and generally service and the food in restaurants was much better in Lake Buena Vista.

Rooms are excellent, pool areas fantastic and all the staff are really friendly and helpful.

Free internet and daily papers in the lobby shop. Free regular shuttles to Disney parks.

The only criticism I'd have about this hotel is that the taxi's organised by the hotel are a lot more expensive than the yellow cabs. Oh and beware the desk in the hotel that sells theme park tickets, it's actually selling time share!

If we return to Orlando [though I think we're a bit Theme Parked out now!] I'd definitely stay here again and would not hesistate in recommending it.

4 of 5  Great Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, glasgow, June 18, 2009

After reading all the negative reports about this hotel I was a bit worried about my 15 night stay in the Safari. Ok the hotel is a little tierd looking but on arrivial at the Starwood Preffered Guest Desk was checked in quickly given room 3rd floor when opened the door the room was very clean and looked on to the pool the staff were friendly the room was cleaned every day and bottled water put in with tea and coffee. Ok the patio furniture was dirty but wasnt bothered as wasnt going to be sitting on it.Parking was not a problem always spaces pool staff were very nice lets just say it is an older Sheraton maybe not a 4* as stated but 3* but what the hotel has is as follows , good location next to chill's, olive garden ,dennys , black angus,I hop ,pizza hut, need I say more all within 5 minute walk. I feel its a shame that people wanted to dish the hotel as I would go back and would say to any one wanting to go dont be put off by other reports go and try yourself being going to Orlando 15 years and can honestly say the hotel was good.

4 of 5  Extremely Satisfied!, A TripAdvisor Member, Iraq, May 27, 2009

We stayed for 6 days through Memorial Day. We arrived and immediately greated by the staff, upgraded to a two room preferred suite and offered the use of a childs stroller as we didn't bring our own. The food was excellent especially the breakfast buffet, fresh fruit and a waffle iron. Kids eat free. We were used to Florida weather so the frequent storms didn't pose a real issue. The in room carpet was a bit dingy and dated but although it was an older, renovated hotel it was well maintained. The entire staff was friendly and accommodating, from front desk, Tom and Lisa to Ruby at the Concierge Desk who helped with a last minute car rental. The free shuttle to the area attractions was a little time consuming but hey, it was free right. Our 5 year old would have loved to stay at the 75 ft snake slide (Great Pool!!) and visit the alligators in the lobby every day vs the lines at the parks. The fitness center was in desperarte need of repair...lose the hoist station and replace it with free weights and a couple of benches would do the trick. Over all it was a clean and friendly place with an observant staff. Thanks!

4 of 5  Great location shame about the staff, A TripAdvisor Member, England, May 26, 2009

I work as a travel agent and spent a lot of time looking into the best place to stay. The situation of the hotel was fantastic. $20 max in a taxi to any of the parks and the hotel did offer a free shuttle service too although we did have a few problems, overbooking, lateness etc. Hotel was clean and DID need a bit of a refurb but on the whole was fine and a great base. The beds were really comfy which was a massive plus as you are ready for a good sleep by the end of the day!

The staff were ok but not the friendliest unless you were heavily tipping them every 5 minutes. Tipping was a big thing and EXPECTED which i found bizarre. Don't bother going back to a restaurant if you don't give a tip of at least 15% as the service the next time is bad!

Out of season it is possible to do the parks in one day, we managed no problem at all and were finished by around 4-5pm.

Storms were horrific, something i wasn't prepared for at6 all. Take a GOOD umbrella and you will need to invest in some ponchos (they sell them at all the parks but are $8 each so get them before you go)

Lightening hit every day and the rain can be a real drain. It usually lasts around 30 mins but they are having freak weather which is going to stay until end june apparently so be warned!

Buy the express pass for Universal and IOA, this is invaluable even though it was quiet when we were there it saved us lots of time.

Discovery Cove is well worth the time and money and if you can afford it i would thoroughly recommend.

We had $150 per day as a budget and there was only myself and my 8 year old son. We didn't hire a car and found this plenty. We ate4 out at fantastic restaurants every day and didn't want for anything. Only downside with the food is its really hard to find good healthy food when you eat out. Vegetables are so rare! I craved them after 2 weeks!!!

Florida was a great holiday but my biggest tip is go prepared. Plan your itinerary before you go so you don't waste any time when your there....it goes so quickly!

Hope this helps!

4 of 5  Nice hotel, great location!, A TripAdvisor Member, new york, April 28, 2009

**please note** if you book direct thru sheraton u will pay higher rates than what discount websites offer.**** this resort is a great deal if you dont pay full price****

i stayed at this hotel during spring break with my 2 daughters ages 9 months and 8 yrs.

i have stayed at many different places from budget to luxury.

*this is a moderate resort. ~has a beautiful pool scene, the slide is great for kids,

*the main pool is large with plenty of sun & lounge chairs.

*the jacuzzi was hot, but a bit on the murky side. ( i used it with no issues)

*the kids pool is very cold but clean and safe.

*the grounds were well kept. (ie. no trash laying around)

*check-in was smooth, reception staff was nice

ALL of the staff were very nice and greeted us everytime we passed by

*location is amazing, everything is soo close(mini-mart,cvs, restaurants, gift shops)

*entrance to walt disney resort is literally three blocks away!!!!

(the hotel has free shuttle to disney and $15 shuttle to universal...i didnt use either)

*our room was your basic hotel room as far as size goes.

*the balcony was a decent size (overlooking pool is better option instead of parking lot)

*the vanity sink and mirror is separate from toilet and bathroom, which is good bc the bathroom was the worst part of the stay.

*it smelled of pure mold. you can see the mold on the tiles.

*i ate the buffet breakfast about 4 times- it was really good. the price is higher than other buffets but the kids meal is free and its convenient to eat at the hotel sometimes.

*i also used the laundry mat. machines were clean and did the job! (fair prices)

plenty of free well lit parking.

i always felt safe walking around hotel day or night.

*overall i had a great stay and would stay again as long i get a great rate.

4 of 5  do not let the reviews put you off this fantastic hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, london, April 28, 2009

well what can I say about this hotel, well firstly before arriving I had read numerous reviews on the web, some were good , some ok , some marginal and more than a few were nothing better than awful. I had secret fears about the hotel which I felt my wife shared also but it was all booked so we departed with my 2 young daughters and hoped for the best.

Upon arrival from Orlando international airport which is approx 25 mins away I was very pleasently surprised, the hotel looked fantastic from the outside and had plenty of parking and checking in was very easy , the porter took our cases to our suite within 10 minutes.

Our suite was lovely ,very spacious ,clean and well equipped with a small kitchen area which included a microwave and coffee making facilities, fridge and freezer. The bedroom had 2 large beds which was suitible for the 4 of us and the sofa bed in the lounge accomadated my mother in law who is in her mid 60s .The air conditioning was fantastic and was also very flexible.

For your information we are from London in England and maybe our concept of cleanliness in hotels differs from those of US customers, several reviews I read mentioned stains on carpets and furniture and bad smells , well yes there were a couple in our suite also but if like most uk holiday makers who visit Spanish or Baleric hotels you will never get a perfect room and the suite we had would surpass the expectations of 90% of UK tourists. The room was cleaned to a good standard daily with clean towels. To summerise we were VERY PLEASED with our accomodation.

The hotel in general was clean and well kept and the pool area was also clean, the pool was slightly cold in the morning but by the afternoon was of a acceptable tempreature. The water slide was fantastic and both my daughters absolutely loved it , there was also a small bar and the attendent sold pool accessories. The pool was open until 11pm every evening and was used continually til then. There is a laundry which my wife used on a couple of occasions which was well equipped and clean, and a small but dated games room.

We never visted the hotel bar or restaurant as we felt they were quite expensive so I cannot comment on those but I heard no bad reports on them during my visit. Overall I was very pleased with the Hotel and would use it again for future visits, sure it is slightly dated and could do with a lick of paint in places but we found it to be clean well placed for the parks and above all we felt safe during our stay.

My only 2 complaints are firstly I found the front desk staff and concierge staff to be efficient rather than friendly and they pushed the sheraton experince down your throat (sheraton time share appartments) .They were not rude but neither friendly ,this was maybe pronounced after days of super friendly staff at the theme parks. Secondly every couple of hours someone was sticking pizza leaflets under your door, im sure the hotel knows this is happening and should make an effort to stop this.

My tips .

Sizzlers diner is next door to the hotel and does a fantastic all you can eat breakfast for around $5 for adults, scan the local guides for coupons which allows the kids to eat for free , we went there everyday and both our children eat for free every breakfast.

There are numerous restaurants within walking distance from the hotel some of which take discount coupons and you can have great meals without breaking the bank.

If your offered a sat nav system when you collect your rental think carefully where you are going during your holiday , if like us you are doing the parks then trust me you dont need one the hotel is about half a mile from the entrance to the Disney estate which houses all the parks. You are also about 1 mile from the I 4 motorway which takes you to Universal and Seaworld.

Lastly the sheraton experince is offered at every opportunity by the staff on the desks, we saved $100 on seaworld tickets( MUST VISIT) by agreeing to go to the time share presentation which they say takes 90 minutes . we went at 9am and was given a nice breakfast by sheraton this was followed by a 30 min presentation and a tour of the complex. The whole vsit took about 4 hours and we were given the hard sale but i found it quite enjoyable, transport is supplied both ways.

Well I was very pleased with the hotel , location and the parks and had a holiday which our family will treasure for ever, from my experince of this hotel dont let thr reviews worry you prior to your visit.

4 of 5  What to expect. Accurate information here., A TripAdvisor Member, new york, April 23, 2009

We stayed in this hotel for ten nights in Mid-April for about $1000 through Expedia, and we were happy with the spacious room and nearby restaurants and grocery stores. Our son is not yet 3 years old, so that he could enjoy free entrance to the Disney, and he can eat free in several buffet restaurants.

What we used in this hotel:

1. Room: we live on the 6th floor. The room is excellent for its value. Noise-free, clean, with safe. However, when we walked by the first floor, we felt that those rooms look like nothing more than a motel. So try to ask a room in higher floors and facing the pool with a good view.

2. Pool: we had time to use it only once. The water in the kids pool is much colder than the regular pool. Not sure why. The jacuzzi is great. Well, there is no locker or formal entrance downstairs, we basically dress in swim suites and walk down to the pool in the middle of the hotel.

3. Shuttle service to the Disney parks: the shuttle goes through several hotels, sometimes we are the first and hence we have seats, sometimes not and it was crowded. The shuttle also goes through two parks, oftentimes we may experience nearly an hour from the parking lot to hotel. The timing is mostly accurately with 10 minutes delay sometimes. I think that a car may save us lots of time, as there is only 5 minutes drive from here to the Disney, and 10 minutes to Universal Studios. We need to pay to elsewhere, such as $14 per person for round trip to Universal studio, so you can figure out whether it's worth it or you'd take a cab (for $25 one way roughly). There is limited shuttle to Downtown Disney by reservation for free, and the Lego place is fun to play, they have fancy restaurants there too.

4. Customer service. For the basic stuff, they are fine. Yet on transportation advices, they give mixed information. I used to ask a guy who said that there is shuttle to the outlet by reservation, yet others denied later on. They tend to persuade you to take taxis, as they are very closed related to them.

5. I heard about the free wifi in the lobby from 5 to 11 at night, however, I haven't got a chance to use it at all. We used it once in room for $10.95.

What we haven't used in this hotel, as we had no time.

1. Game room, play ground, fitness room. If you just stayed here at night, probably you won't care much about these.

2. Food in hotel, I checked online to know that it's kinda pricey.

Do not expect the public bus service to take us places, the only bus line: link 300 from lynx only runs maybe twice a day to the Downtown Disney. We used to see one near evening time.

What we liked nearby:

1. walking toward our right, the first restaurant is Sizzler with $4.99 for breakfast buffet (7-11), and $9.99 for dinner buffet. The breakfast is pretty good here.

2. continue to the right, there is a plaza with China buffet ($7.29 for lunch from 11, and $13.xx for dinner), kabob and curry (didn't try), Giodiano's pizza (the famous stuffed pizza takes 50 minutes to bake, and we were starving in waiting, so try to plan ahead), Mexican food (fajita for two for $24 only, very tasty). We ate once in "steak'n'shake", we didn't quite like it there though.

3. continue to the right, at the end of this first plaza, on the left hand side of the road is Welgreens, for toothpaste, etc. they have some produce, milk, too.

4. continue to the right for one more block, there is another plaza with a couple of fast food restaurants. Well, the best shop in this plaza is Winn-Dixie, a grocery store with fare pricing and fresh produce.

What we didn't like nearby:

1. walking toward the left side, there is Pizza hut with horrible smell, we exited the minute we entered. they offered lunch buffet.

2. walking two more blocks toward the left, there is a grocery store called Goodings. It's much pricier, and not fresh. The first time we bought there the food was okay, the next time we went there (on a 17th), the carrots were listed to buy "before 14th", you can imagine others.

What we saw in walking distance yet we didn't try:

Olive Garden, Chili's, Ale House, Perkins, Dunkin Donuts, McDonald, Taco Bell, etc. These look good. There are a couple gifts shop, roughly in the same price range as in Disney.

If you have a car, life can be much more freer in the neighborhood.

We booked one week at this hotel through Hotwire, and thought it was excellent value for money. There were a couple of problems but these were quickly sorted by the excellent staff.

I had read some of the earlier reviews and was a little worried but there was no problems.

Things to know; when you first enter your room, don't forget to read the items dotted around; one of which tells you that if you want your bed linen changing to leave the card on the bed. Also if you are happy to reuse some of your towels, hang them up and ones you want changing drop on the floor.

The pool was great and the kids seemed to be enjoying the water slide although we didnt use it.

One thing I will say be careful of the (non-hotel) staff who will try to sell you tickets etc. We went over to check whether they had any information regarding hot air balloon rides. They tried to get us to fill all our personal details onto a 'free draw' ticket. This is a con, linked to a time share company, so don't do it. If you want help with any information the main desk are happy to help and I would suggest you use them instead of the 'ticket touts'.

In general we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely go again if we were in the area.

4 of 5  You get what you pay for, A TripAdvisor Member, Montreal, April 7, 2009

I want to make this short and to the point. I booked my trip through expedia, and this was one of the cheapest hotels with a reputable name like Sheraton. I was very worried after reading the negative reviews. But it seems like there are too many people on these boards that expect to pay less than $100 a night and then get a Ritz Carlton type hotel. If you want to live in the lap of luxury, go and pay $400 a night and stay at some posh hotel. I personally travel everywhere for business, and stay at those posh hotels, but if I'm paying I'm very satisfied with this hotel. Sure, the elevator carpet may have had a stain, maybe there was a cigarette butt on one of the walkways, but if you're in Orlando, you're there to come home later in the day, go swimming and in the hot tub, go for a bite to eat, and then go to sleep and do the same thing the next day. I couldn't get my 5 year old son out of that water slide (kids love the pool and it is very clean), the Air conditioning worked, and the room cleaning service was excellent (She even washed our dishes). It's also close to a ton of family restaurants, and so close to the parks. Don't listen to the snobs that expect to get everything for nothing, this hotel is fine for families looking to enjoy a vacation and not spend a ton on hotels. And most of the people staying there were British, and very down to earth people, would rather have them around than some of the complainers on these boards.

4 of 5  The Sheraton Safari-clone of Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge?, A TripAdvisor Member, miami, March 27, 2009

Living in Miami with children, I have traveled to Orlando often to visit Mickey and have stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge at least 3 times. It is one of my favorite hotels in the world so when I could not get a room there or in any Disney hotel for less than almost $400 a night, I found this hotel. It looks like an ordinary Sheraton from outside, but once you walk in you can see that the effort was made to mirror Disney's larger hotel. The lobby has an African motif, you can pet a baby gator, get a cup of coffee and breakfast at the same time. There is a nice pool with a 75 foot python slide and a lovely courtyard with a big koi pond. They have a small, but good video arcade (per my tween age kids) and the staff, especially in the restaurant are helpful and friendly. There are restaurants, gas stations and the world's largest discount gift shop across the street from the hotel. Most importantly, I-4 is minutes down the road which makes all of the Disney parks minutes away, although unfortunately still off of the highway. Exits are clearly marked, the staff will help guide you, but the only problem is the Orlando traffic. Avoid heavy traffic times which will delay you by at least 30-40 minutes.

The hotel is really a fantastic value. I paid $99 a night for three of us versus my normal bill of over $200 a night at the Animal Kingdom hotel. While its not at all the same thing, it was really nice, clean, had , helpful staff, good beds, good breakfasts and easy and fast access to all of the Orlando area parks. The pool was fine for kids and sunbathing was great for the adults. While it is not a Disney hotel, the Sheraton was definitely a solid clone with great value.

4 of 5  Pleasantly surprised, A TripAdvisor Member, St Pete, FL, March 23, 2009

I stayed at the Sheraton Safari for two nights recently, I should state upfront that I recieved a deeply discounted rate from another travel site. I had always been curious about this hotel, based on it's location. In spite of some of the earlier reviews, I have to say I was very surprised. My room was spotless. Furniture appeared to be brand new. No signs of scuffs or wear anyplace in the room. I found every staff member I encountered to be very friendly. We took advantage of the breakfast buffet the day we left and found it to be good. Our waitress was kind enough to not charge us for our 14 year old to eat. Completely not necessary on her part.

The weather was a little cool for us to use the pool, but we thought it looked fun, and my kids were disappointed we didn't.

If you are planning a trip to Disney and aren't staying on property, it's hard to beat the location of this hotel. A Pizza Hut in the parking lot, an Olive Garden across the street, and tons of more places just under a mile away.

I agree with another reviewer that said this place is a solid three star hotel. If you are looking for more than that, you should look elsewhere. But I was pleased with my experience, and would consider staying here again for the right price.

4 of 5  Great Location..., A TripAdvisor Member, Halifax, NS, March 17, 2009

My husband, myself and 3 kids (ages 6 to 16) stayed 4 nights. We really didn't spend a lot of time at the hotel as we were theme parking it. The kids enjoyed the pool and the games room. We had a suite which we found a bit tight for space. The beds were small but comfortable and the sheets were nice. We did miss our king bed from home. The living room was small and the only place to sit and eat was at the desk area or on the sofa. The "kitchen" area was tiny, but fine for making cereal and coffee. Having a balcony was great!

The overall condition of the room was ok although it is in need of a reno. At least the decor isn't screaming 80's! Hotel staff advised me that they will be starting a refurb shortly. The laundry facilities are old and smelly and also need updating.

This hotel is in a prime location and if you are there to do theme parks, then it's an ok place to stay. Once they renovate, it will be much better. Our biggest complaint was that you had to pay for wireless in your room. It is supposedly free in the lobby from 5 to 11 pm but my husband couldn't get a connection and ended up having to pay 3 bucks for 15 minutes to use one of their computers. Kind of cheesy from a Sheraton.

Also, they will ask you to attend a timeshare meeting. If you can spare an hour and a half, you will be paid US75 for your troubles. Just be firm and say no.

Long story short...Although our overall experience was just fine, there are so many other hotels and resorts to choose from that are in better condition, that we would probably try somewhere else next time.

4 of 5  Best place too stay if not on Disney property., A TripAdvisor Member, Tampa,Fl., March 9, 2009

The location of this hotel/resort is awesome. Trust me if you are not familiar with Orlando and don't want to spend 250 a night at a Disney property(low end) this is the place. Great hotel, pool is big and great for kids big and small rooms are very nice African theme throughout the hotel is done very well. But the location is about 100 yards from Disney property (Hotel Plaza Blvd). We booked the executive suite $129 a night and almost 800 square feet of living space. Only draw back is there are no balconies on these suites. All the other rooms and the smaller suites have balconies which is nice to have that view and open air feeling. We have been here before and unless we plan on staying on property at WDW then this is the place for us. The staff is nice, check in/out went very smooth. they have a shuttle for the parks. There must be around 100 stores and eateries within walking distance from this hotel.

4 of 5  Comfortable and safe place to stay for all ages. Friendly helpful staff, A TripAdvisor Member, london, March 3, 2009

We had a holiday in the same area last year but never stayed in the Sheraton Safari. We are familiar with the area and this hotel is well placed. It's even a good pick-up spot on the bus route!

Our family ( 3 girls aged 10, 12 and 13 and boy aged 3 years) stayed in the hotel for 9 nights. When we arrived the staff were courteous and we had no problems. We had booked two adjoining rooms both with 2 double beds. We had no problems with the rooms and the beds were very comfortable. The only downside of the room was that I noticed that the chocolate biscuit that my son got on the sheets on day one, was still on the sheets on day nine! Too late for us to complain, but something to watch out for. That said, I would still use this hotel again.

We didn't use the facilities in the hotel because possibly like you, ours was a Disney trip and we didn't have time. The hotel runs a free shuttle service to the Disney parks. Although the list says it calls at different parks at different times, don't think you have to wait for the bus to go to the park that you are visiting. You can get any bus to a Disney park and then Disney have free buses and sometimes boats and the monorail to take you to whatever park you want to visit. The same applies for returning to the hotel, you can hop on any of the Disney transport to take you to the coach park that has a bus departing when you are ready to leave. You don't need to book these buses. Beware - the buses do not hang around. Get there 10 - 15 minutes before the bus is due when returning to the hotel, especially if you have small children or want to guarantee a seat. They are gone on the dot and sometimes there can be a bit of a queue.

The breakfast in the hotel cost $12.95. That a lot of money and if you come out of the hotel and walk 100yds either left or right, you can get buffet breakfast at Dennys or Sizzlers. Sizzlers is $4.99 for over 3's eat as much as you like but pay for you drink. You get free refills on fizzy. We didn't actually eat in Dennys because they had a power cut, but the taxi drivers said it was the same as Sizzlers but that you got free orange juice and don't need to buy a drink. Dennys is $5.99 for breakfast. Given the price of the breakfast in the hotel, we didn't even look at the evening menu.

As you leave the hotel, about 3/4 mile to the left is a place to eat called the Golden Corral. Definately worth a visit. It serves everything you can think of to eat, from full salad bar to carvery, most types of meat, veg and carbs and fish. Also great desserts from fruit, cakes, biscuits, sweets and ice cream. Again, this is as much as you like and cost $11.99 for over 10's, and I think 3 - 10 was $7.99. Lunch is cheaper, but the same food at $7.99 for all. When you exit the Golden Corral, pick up the tourist voucher booklets. They have money off vouchers for most of the local eaterys, including the Golden Corral (10% off total bill).

Safari also offers a free bus service to the Premium Outlets. If you like shopping, worth a visit. Mostly designer stuff and I got great bargains in Armani Exchange and Guess. Get a voucher from the hotel, at the counter selling Disney tickets and exchange it in the food hall at Premium Outlets to get a discount leaflet for most of the shops (10% - 30%). If you really want to shop, there is also Florida Mall (about $35 in a taxi). It's ok, but more bargains to be had at Outlets. From Premium Outlets, you can get a bus along International Drive to Prime Outlets. I think this costs $1 - $2 each way, much cheaper than a taxi.

Taxi's from the hotel are instant, but cost around $5 for each trip. We struck up a conversation with one of the drivers and he discounted our fares when we used hime direct. All the taxi drivers will do this for you.

Hope this helps. Happy holidays!

4 of 5  A little tired but great location, A TripAdvisor Member, Brandon, Florida, January 21, 2009

We were upgraded to a suite. It was clean and comfortable however the bedroom was cramped - not much space around the bed.

The location is fantastic. We just went for the parks. The property itself and the pool was not that great and I would not recommend this for a relaxing stay but if you are just going to the parks it is great.

4 of 5  A great place for the family!, A TripAdvisor Member, Branford, Connecticut, November 15, 2008

After reading the mixed reviews, we weren't sure what to expect, but we were very pleased. We spent five days there, and had no issues at all. Yes, the decor is a bit tacky, but everything was clean. The staff spend a lot of time ensuring that things are clean. This hotel must get a ton of traffic, and some of the carpets are worn, but again, nothing too bad. The room was a good size for two adults and our 10 year old. (Our room was much bigger that a Sheraton we recently stayed at in Portsmouth, NH, and the staff here are way more friendly and responsive). I would recommend asking for a room on the third or fourth floor, facing the pool. This way you get a balcony with space to read and enjoy the view. The pool was great, and our daughter loved the slide. She also enjoyed having her hair braided with beads, at a very fair price. The poolside bar is great and the food actually pretty good. We did try the breakfast buffet, but we weren't that thrilled. There are lots of restaurants within walking distance or a short drive that would be better for breakfast.

The staff at the hotel were great - very pleasant, helpful, and always smiling. The check in was very easy and quick. The concierge was helpful in directing us to the Outlets - a very short drive.

The location of the hotel is great. A short drive to Downtown Disney, and to all the parks. We rented a car, so I'm not sure how well the shuttle worked out. If you are expecting the Atlantis, this place isn't for you. But if you want a clean, reasonably priced family spot that is close to a lot of options, you should definately consider the Sheraton Safari.

4 of 5  A True Sheraton Expierience, A TripAdvisor Member, Monroe, New York, October 22, 2008

A True Sheraton Expierience from check-in to check out...I booked two rooms via the sheraton website and requested adjoining rooms, upon arrival that's what was reserved/held for us. The rooms are above average and were found to be clean and comfortable with all the Sheraton amenities. (Our rooms looked as if they were renovated recently) Hotel staff were always pleasant and helpful. Great location with transportation to Disney Parks. Hotel is nearby all major chain eating establishments from IHOP,Perkins to chili's,etc...as well as shopping for last minute souveniers and esentials.Pool area is above average with a terrific safari theme as is the entire hotel.Would definatly stay there again, our room rate was very, very fair compared to the other hotels in the area.

4 of 5  2 magical visits & no complaints!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Toronto, September 28, 2008

I visited The Sheraton Safari Hotel in March 2005, and again in March 2006 and throughly enjoyed both visits.

The rooms are clean, affordable and offer basic amenities. The beds are Sheraton Sleeper beds and are uber comfy - you will feel as though you are sleeping on cloud nine!! After exploring WDW, you will definately need a good rest!

The pool area is lovely. There is one main pool ; kids pool & playground ; hot tub and 'The Monkey Bar' tiki bar for poolside refreshments. It's worth mentioning that I visited at a very busy time of year, and it was a relatively quiet.

As for dining options, there is Casablanca's restaurant, which offers a buffet breakfast ; I didn't eat there, so I can't comment on the food. The food at ZanZi bar Watering Hole which I frequented for my late night snacks had some good fare.

Just across the parking lot, there is a Pizza Hut, an Olive Garden and other shops and restaurants. A short walk will take you to Red Lobster. If walking in the area - be very cautious - the roads are very busy. I don't recommend walking with small children.

All of the staff I encountered during my stay at Sheraton Safari were very pleasant and full of smiles!! Happy staff really influence the quality of your vacation.

There is coach service to WDW Parks. The buses are air-conditioned and comfortable. The drivers are pleasant and some offer helpful information and tips about WDW.

4 of 5  Really pleased!, A TripAdvisor Member, Huntingdon, September 1, 2008

We were really pleased with the hotel. Our children loved the pool with its python slide and enjoyed the Africa theme. Their breakfasts were the best of any we had in the US (especially their made to order omelettes) and with their Kids eat Free deal the best value too! You can almost see the Disney entrance from the hotel and they offer a free shuttle there so this is an ideal location for anyone wanting to visit all the Disney attractions - and no doubt much cheaper than any on the resort itself!

The housekeeping standards were very high and our room was spacious and well equipped including air conditioning, safe, and fridge. A requested kettle to replace the provided coffee maker was provided in minutes!

A great value stay and I would definately recommend to others.

4 of 5  No problems here... Great Hotel. Great Stay., A TripAdvisor Member, Florida, August 25, 2008

I booked online at Hotwire and was happy to have a hotel so close to Disney property. It was definitely within close proximity to everything -- restaurants, shopping, etc. When I visited this site to research it after booking, I was a bit disappointed with the negative reviews. I thought it was important for others like me searching for a hotel at a great price to read about a positive experience.

The customer service was great. The check-in time was brief. The rooms were nicely appointed and they WERE clean! The employees I met in the hallways and elevators were friendly and polite. The bathroom was NOT too small (the only difference was the vanity being outside of the bathroom area). We stayed on the 5th floor and were surprised to have a balcony. We did not experience any road noise whatsoever that other travelers mention. The only thing I found truthful about the reviews that I read here was that there was a funky smell in the hallway when getting off the elevator. Rest assured, it did not carry over to the room which smelled clean all the time. Was it a 5-star hotel? No. It's a 3-star and it was worth more than the price I paid for it online.

I have no complaints about the Sheraton Safari and would recommend it without hesitation.

3 of 5  Not up to par with other Sheraton properties, A TripAdvisor Member, Tampa Bay, Florida, June 24, 2009

The hotel looked promising on the website, but several things kept it from being a place to which we would return. These things centered mostly around the room. It looked like a room that had yet to be redecorated, and this may have been the case. We had a room with two queen beds. The beds were very uncomfortable, and sloped down at the top. My husband tried to sleep in a chair for two nights. The chair was upholstered, but was just a chair from the small table in the room, not a comfortable chair for sleeping. We chose the regular room instead of the business room, hoping it would have a good chair in case he needed it, but there ended up being just a large space in the corner. We wish now we had chosen the business room so we at least would have had a nice desk and chair. The room was nice and cool, but the air-conditioner was so loud that it kept me awake, and I'm a pretty sound sleeper. We left the light on in the bathroom at night. The buzz from the light was also really loud and distracting. There were several spots of something-looked like soda-on the bathroom door that wiped off with water on a washcloth. The carpet was a little frayed at the bathroom door. We were suprised that a Sheraton would still have old style tvs, not the flat screens we usualy find. We didn't use the pool area, but it looked inviting. The rooms that face the pool area have a decent view. Our room overlooked the parking lot. Our room was on the third floor, directly across the hall from several larger meeting rooms that I think would have been very noisy if an event had been going on. There was also silver paint on the floor in one of the elevators. While we were using points for the room, we were not impressed with the value. The room seemed tired and outdated. We are Disney passholders and visit often. We have stayed in many hotels in the area and live only about 1 1/2 hours away. We have found many hotels with much nicer (updated) rooms for the same price, including the Sheraton Four Points. The location of the Shearton Safari is good, with lots of places to eat nearby, but we wouldn't choose to stay again.

3 of 5  good base for the disney experiance, A TripAdvisor Member, west yorkshire, June 9, 2009

clean hotel, good base for the parks and near to several resterants for dining because the hotel food is pricy

3 of 5  You get what you pay for, A TripAdvisor Member, New York, May 18, 2009

We recently spent 4 nights at Sheraton Safari. After reading tons of reviews prior to our departure, I wasn't expecting anything but an ok bed to sleep on. Our room was on the 4th Floor (supposedly Starwood Preferred Guests Floor) with Bliss amenities and also 2 bottles of water each day. We paid $75 including tax and both my bf and I were not unsatisfied with the hotel for the price that we paid for. True that the ac unit was loud, the shower head was too low, the carpet didn't look brand new and our room was literally behind the Pizza Hut roof, but none of these issues really bothered us. We barely spent any time in the hotel/room during our stay except the first day which they let us check-in at 12 noon and we spent the afternoon by the pool. My only complaint was while there were floating mats and other "toys" by the pool, you have to pay $5/hr in order to use it. I don't think big hotel chain like Starwood should nickel and dime like this.

As others have mentioned, the location is great. It's almost right across from the entrance of Disneworld Resorts, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. Buffet breakfast at Sizzler is $4.99+drinks, and $9.95+drink for dinner at Sweet Tomatoes (we love it and went two nights in a row). There's a 7-11/gas station right across the street.

If you are looking for anything that's more than a cleaner version of a motel, this is not the place for you. However, if you are on budget like us (we were supposed to go to Mexico and already paid our non-refundable hotel deposits but had to cancel due to Swine Flu) and would rather spend the money on something else like food and entertainment, Sheraton safari is definitely not a bad choice.

3 of 5  Your average hotel., A TripAdvisor Member, Florida, May 11, 2009

We stayed the weekend in the Sheraton Safari. Just your average hotel is the best way to describe our stay. The hallways were not the cleanest, nor are they well maintained, but I suppose it doesn't matter all that much.

The room was quite comfortable. The beds were soft but the linen was slightly scratchy.

The balcony could be dangerous for families with small children. The balcony furniture was old and dirty. But again, not really that important because it was only the balcony.

Do not be fooled by the hype about the pool slide. It simply was not impressive upon seeing it.

The staff though, were all friendly and willing to help. It was a pleasure speaking with them.

As far as value for money, yes, I will recommend this hotel.

3 of 5  Great staff, but very run down property, A TripAdvisor Member, Boston, MA, March 17, 2009

First the good: The staff here is very nice and helpful. They were responsive to requests and overal just very friendly. The location is great if you are focusing on Disney and other parks. If you have children, it is a kid friendly place. The pool area is decent, but can get very crowded during peak hours.

Now the bad: The property is very run down (rooms are musty/moldy despite cleanlines) and if you are unfortunate enough to get a room overlooking the pool, you will hear screeching children from 7 am until midnight.

Skip the breakfast here, definitely not worth the price and tons of places nearby with much better food for less.

The Orlando Alehouse is fantastic!!! Good food for very reasonable prices.

Overall this is ok if you are using as a base for the parks, but for the money, there are much nicer rpoperties to be had in the area.

3 of 5  The Impartial Lowdown - Good Value, Usually, A TripAdvisor Member, Albuquerque, February 19, 2009

My family stayed here for a week in February 2009. I payed about $80 for a suite room, which I booked in advance in a package. The suite was on the 5th floor of Bldg. 4 - they initially put us on floor 2, which I would avoid - the windows were filthy, and the room was not clean. I actually found a cigarette butt on the floor of the bedroom. They moved us, and the second room. room 4508, was fine. The suites have two rooms and a bathroom - very nice for the money. The bed linens were of good quality, as were the towels and toiletries. The mattresses were comfortable - Sheraton hotels are good at this. The kitchette had a sink, microwave and a nice mini fridge with a separate freezer - with dishes, etc. This will save you a mint on breakfast and refreshments. The sofa and chair were a little old, but clean and nice. The carpet looked like it was beginning to show a little wear, but nothing bad. The bathroom was a little small, but clean and pleasant. The tvs (there are two) are not plasma or flat-screen, but they offered a lot more stations than budget hotels usually do, and it was such a luxury to sit my daughter down to PBS in the afternoon after Disney in one room and take a nap in the other. The air worked perfectly. The pool area was large and heated with a nice slide and lots of chairs and lounges. The hot tub was nice and warm and there was a little tiki hut bar with snacks and drinks. There are lots of families and older folks at the pool and you don't have to look fabulous in a bathing suit to feel comfortable, but I never felt like the crowd was lowbrow - just nice everyday people. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. Wireless internet costs $11 a day in the room, but is free in the lobby area.

The lowdown? If you are used to a 4 or 5 star experience, this hotel will fall short. If a solid 3 star pleases you, this hotel will meet your expectations. The biggest problem? Not enough money and labor is put into keeping common areas and older rooms clean and well kept. The balcony and walkway outside our room needed a good wash with a pressurized steam cleaner. The walls on the walkway needed a good coat of paint. The elevator needed a good cleaning. It would take a few days and a little money to get things right and I am amazed that management doesn't do this. The lobby area and pool are kept very nice, but the halls of the main bldg. show wear and a failure to be properly cleaned. Overall - under no condition pay more than $75 for a regular room or $125 for the suite and you will get good value for the money. Any more and you will feel cheated. If you are put in a room that is not clean or is shabby, speak up and if they refuse to fix it, call your booking agent or credit card and fix it or reverse the charge. And make sure to joing the Starwood Preferred program before you go - it doesn't cost anything and some of the nicer rooms require membership. Go to the website, write down the number and use it for the reservation.

At check out, they tried to bill me for an adult film that we had not watched - it was gross and embarassing and the clerk simply wouldn't take it off the bill. I asked to see the manager and he immediately took it off. This brings up my final point - the staff do not show pride in the hotel - they all seemed like nice folks, but they also were not anxious to please. They clearly get yelled at for the condition of the hotel at times and they exude burn out with tourists. (Except for the lovely woman with the German accent at the restaurant, who is always cheerful and kind, no matter how swamped she is. )Once again - if you get a good rate, who cares? But keep in mind you may have to be a bit more assertive here, because your displeasure is of little consequence to them. So be assertive - it is okay to decline over priced shuttles to shopping or timeshare vacations. Just say "no" and mean it - they will get the point.

Finally, a word on transportation and the area. The area is full of good restaurants in every price range. There is a buffet place next door, and a McDonalds. Across the street is a place called "The Ale House" which serves up seafood and really good beer on tap. Wednesday night is Lobster Night - a 1 1/4 pound steamed lobster cooked perfectly for under $15. Absolutely wonderful - salads, sandwiches, great kids menu. There is a Win Dixie grocery down the main drive a mile or so - skip Goodings if cost is a concern. Finally, the Disney shuttle is wonderful - a real motor coach with air and its on time (don't be late at pick up or you'll be left behind). Make sure to get the first one of the day shortly before 8 - the Sheraton is the first on and first off, so you'll always get a seat and it is so convenient. This will save you $10 parking per day plus gas and it makes things so much easier. There is a fairly liberal schedule to Magic Kingdom, and the drivers are so pleasant.

Bottom line - be assertive and don't pay too much. Happy Vacation!

3 of 5  No worries, A TripAdvisor Member, nashville, TN, October 23, 2008

After reading the reviews of this hotel we were worried about our Disney vacation and actually considered moving hotels before we left. I am glad we did not. This hotel was VERY typical of a moderate priced Orlando hotel. Dated decor. Average clean. JUST like the moderate Disney properties we have stayed on before. Location was GREAT...very close to the main entrance to the Disney props and Downtown Disney. Room Service breakfast was FAST and VERY good - huge portions, hot, and the same price we paid at the very dirty IHOP the 1st day we were there for MUCH better service and quality. Staff was typical - not "DIsney Magic", but not rude. The beds were OK and the rooms were large enough for our family not to feel cramped. The water slide was a HUGE hit - plan a morning at the pool b/c our 8 yr old wanted to play in there as much as she wanted to see Mickey! There is a Walgreens near here and MANY other eating choices too. No worries - just a regular Orlando hotel!

3 of 5  You get what you pay for, A TripAdvisor Member, Miami, Florida, August 11, 2008

We just returned from a three night stay at the Sheraton Safari Resort. The lobby and decor is very nice, with a very neat tank for American Alligators. The concierge was helpful, but the gift shop was your typical Orlando tourist shop. The pool is lovely, with a great python looking waterslide, great for the whole family. The pool was clean, but it had a lot of chlorine.

The room and hallways were average, with cleanliness and decor of a three star hotel. The air conditioning did not work properly, so the room temperature was not pleasant, but at night it would leave the room freezing. The bathroom was a little small, but the sink outside was a great idea. The beds were very comfortable. Upon arrival, the room smelled like Clorox, but the smell quickly disappeared.

Ate in the restaurant for breakfast two days, the food was great! The omelette station was great and the staff was extremely friendly. The only negative side is that a few of the buffet items were a little bit cold.

All in all, this is an average hotel and we may stay here again. If you go in the winter when the pool is cold, I suggest you stay at another hotel.

3 of 5  Just okay, convenient to DT disney and disney, A TripAdvisor Member, Cumberland, Rhode Island, August 10, 2008

We landed here through priceline and we just stayed here one night before heading up to stay with family. This location is very convenient for people looking to stay near disney. During check-in the person working the desk was very nice and polite! The room is okay, typical three star quality. The "safari" decor is a bit dark and makes the room feel a bit dated. The bathroom also feels a bit dated and dark. The bed is not that great either but for $59 a night through priceline I can't really complain! A few days here would be fine but I would not like to stay here for my entire vacation, preferring a little nicer accommodations.

2 of 5  You get what you pay for!, A TripAdvisor Member, SC, May 12, 2009

This hotel is old and outdated, dingy and worn. The bed served it's purpose and was relatively comfortable, but the A/C was so loud that it woke us every time it came on.

The carpeting was old and soiled, the blanket clean but torn.

We were able to adjust the picture on the old TV, but the picture remained poor.

The breakfast buffet was OK, but overpriced. We ate there once, then had breakfast across the street at Shoney for half the price, and then at Sizzler next door for less than half. Both good buffet's.

Nice pool area , easy drive to theme parks.

2 of 5  Peeling Paint, A TripAdvisor Member, Saint Petersburg, FL, April 5, 2009

I got a deeply discounted rate for the hotel room. We only stayed for one night. The lobby was very nice and the staff was very friendly. As soon as I walked into the bathroom, I started to see problems. The paint was peeling off the ceiling. There was mold on the tile in the bathroom. The sink was an undermount sink, and the seal was not complete, and there was mold around it too. The faucet for the shower was so low, that I, at 5'7" had to bend down to get washed. My husband at 6'6" had a very hard time. After watching the fireworks at disney we drove back to the hotel. The only parking that we could find was on the very back side of the hotel. I could not tell if there was any way to get from that parking lot to the building that we were staying in. My husband drove around the hotel 6 times before he could find a closer spot. If I had payed full price for this room I would have been very upset. On the up side, there was not a resort charge.

2 of 5  Is that a Sheraton Hotel?, A TripAdvisor Member, Destin, FL, April 3, 2009

Good: Professional Service, very helpful staff.

Bad: Sink practically in the room not in the bathroom, spots on the sheets, some mold spots on the wall.

Old and very cheap furniture

I stayed there for a small conference, and prior to going, did not expect much from the photos. However, the staff was friendly and helpful, rooms were clean, and pool is nice. BUT, the grounds and outside look very dated, almost like a motel. Also, I was shocked there wasn't complimentary wi-fi internet, at least in the lobby (it is available for free only from 5pm-11pm, which is ridiculous). The "fitness room" is one of the more dilapidated I have seen- 4 cardio machines, 3 "out of order," and the multipurpose weight machine was missing pins/screws for adjustments. Lastly, I was surprised to see graffiti scratched inside the main elevator- no excuse for that in a hotel. Would not choose to stay there again.

2 of 5  It was booked to be a 4-star hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, NY, October 25, 2008

1 of 5  Never again, A TripAdvisor Member, maryland, April 10, 2009

We were very disappointed in this hotel. You would have thought that a Sheraton would have had a better caliber of accommodations. We entered the room to a horrible odor. The furniture was broken, beaten up and very OLD. The drapes, carpet and bedspread were so old I didn't want to touch them The sheets were NOT tucked in (who taught them to make a bed). Because they were just thrown on the bed, they balled up during the night. I'm not sure the sheets were even clean. It was disgusting. The pool was the only thing that looked maintained (and I understand it was maintained by a different company) which explains why it was ok. I would never recommend this hotel for anyone. This hotel needs a SERIOUS overhaul

1 of 5  Stay away, stay away!!!, A TripAdvisor Member, NJ, March 11, 2009

Well..... first of all the staff was wonderful, front desk, bar tenders, etc. I unfortuantely got to meet the head of security because my IPOD was stolen out of my room. I would not be discussing this if I was not 100% certain that I had my IPOD in my room. I realize that it is possible to lose the IPOD on the plane, in the airport, on the airport shuttle, etc. But I am 100% certain that I listened to my IPOD in my Hotel room the night that I checked in. Anyway, my lock was scanned by security and the only people in my room were me and housekeeping, which (believe it or not) denied any wrong doing. I ALWAYS lock all of my possessions in my suitcase. I was rushing to get to the conference so I wasn't as thorough as I usually am before leaving my room. This time I forgot that my IPOD was in the outside pocket of the suitcase and therefore did not lock it up in the suitcase. When I returned, the IPOD was gone, the earphones were still there, but the IPOD was gone. I used the IPOD in my room Friday night when I checked in, so I know that I had it in the hotel room. I forgot to take it out of my outter suitcase pocket and lock it up Sat. morning, returned Sat midday, it was gone. I was in town for a medical conference at the hotel that weekend, arrived Fri night left Sun morning. The trip was all work, no vacation, and got even more costly when you factor in the costs to replace my property. The insurance company from Sheraton stated that they believe the house keeping personnel (over me apparently). I am a physician with 11 years of college and a nationally recognized leader in my field. OK!!! Unfortunately for Sheraton I am involved in planning upcoming conferences and will never book anything in any Sheraton hotel ever again. It isn't the $200 for the iPOD or the 1800 songs that I have to replace. It's the fact that someone (probably the staff) went into my property and stole from me. $200 represents about 20 minutes of work for me. It's not the money, it's the response from Sheraton and their insurance company. They lost me as a customer, and the hundreds or thousands of future customers that I can provide by scheduling conferences at their hotels. STAY AWAY or lock everything up. I expected better from a hotel that I frequently used.

1 of 5  Nightmare Birthday Trip to Sheraton Safari Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, February 16, 2009

The Sheraton Safari Hotel ruined my Valentines and Birthday! Drove straight 7 hrs. from Atlanta to Orlando on Fri. @ 4am to go to Disney FREE for my birthday on Sun. Paid-n- full thru Expedia and was assurred this was a "PET FRIENDLY" hotel. When I checked in, they made me sign a waiver saying my 17 lb. Scottie would NEVER be left alone in the room. I had a crate to keep him in while in the room alone. I said I cannot sign this because I would be a prisoner in my room for 6 days. She said it's just for dogs left in the room and tear up things. If I didn't sign, it had to leave-so, I signed it. Put him in the room, went to eat & shop ( 3hrs total) and spent the first night-all was OK. Next day, drove to Eola Park (grew up in Orl) and exercised him. Came back at 9 pm, he was passed out in the crate with lights out and cartoons on, and went to the grocery store next door for food. When I came back, my non-smoking room was full of smoke and my dog gone. There was a note on the crate from the manager saying he's in the office and needs to be registered. I wanted to faint. He had no right to take my dog, smoke in my room, and scare my dog & me. The waiver did not say they had the right to take him either. He was running back & forth in a room, alone, shaking badly. If he had bitten someone out of his crate, I would have been sued. No one cared. I proved that he was registered and the manager, Mr O'neil, said I had to check out because I left him alone in the room, violating the waiver. 11:00 pm now and back in room to sleep and leave in the am. Room smelled so bad from the smoke that I packed up and left at 12:30. The manager had smoked in my room when he came in. Called Expedia from the parking lot at 1 am and they said it was non-refundable. I drove straight thru a rain storm back to Atlanta, arriving at 7am. Wasted money on gas and ruined my birthday weekend. Called Expedia on Mon. and the supervisor, Rance (not in the USA), said all he could do was put a $50 coupon in my account for my next trip. No refund for 5 nights. Expedia booked my trip over the phone and was told I needed Pet Friendly for my dog. Who would take a vacation and never leave their room? No one allows dogs in Orlando. His B-day is next week and I wanted to take him and play with him in Orlando. I called and filed a complaint with Sheraton Corp. and they were not aware of the waiver that was only presented at check-in. But they said my issue is with Expedia, not them. Expedia says it's with the hotel. I will NEVER use EXpedia again nor stay at a Sheraton. The room was not clean, safe never worked, and no one has the right to take my dog out of his safe place. They said he barked and the neighbor complained. When I left, he was passed out asleep in his locked crate. So, a noise had to wake him up for him to bark. Kids were yelling & running up and down the hall when I was in the room earlier. Pool was full of screaming kids and the lifeguard constantly blowing his whistle. But the manager said the issue was not the barking, it was because he was in the room alone and I signed a waiver. I was gone 45 mins. So, how do you go eat? He said order room service or drive-thru...Lay by the pool? No. Go to the beach? No. Go to Disney free? No. Shop? No. So, why was I there? I had no choice but to sign or leave and go where?! Orlando was packed for Valentines and there are not that many "dog friendly" hotels and I had already paid-n-full to Expedia. How is it "dog friendly" if there is no place for him to go? No area was designated for a dog to enter and just walk around on the property. I only slept in the bed 1 night, and now I cannot get a refund and no one cares it was my special weekend-RUINED! A birthday I will never forget.

1 of 5  Stay away!, A TripAdvisor Member, germany, January 11, 2009

Having stayed quite a few times at Hotels belonging to the Sheraton Group we decided to stay at a Sheraton close to International Drive and theme parks. Looked at the Sheraton-site and chose the Sheraton Safari. The reception staff was actually nice. Even though we were upgraded to a suite we had to find out that this place is the most run-down Sheraton we had ever seen!!! We stayed because it was only one night and we had a busy schedule. We talked to a couple (white Lexus rental) that moved to another hotel right after looking at the rooms. Breakfast was mediocre but edible.

We truly do not understand that this hotel has received any positive feedback. I will never ever book a Sheraton again without reviewing the feedback given. I guess it was my mistake that I did not do that.

1 of 5  Total dump!, A TripAdvisor Member, Hampshire, August 6, 2008

This was booked to be a 4-star hotel. It should be a1-star if that!

The place was very noisy

The rooms smelled stale

The bedspreads had holes in

The carpets (rooms and corridoors) were dirty

Pizza delivery people from outside the hotel patrolled he coridors pushing leaflets under the room doors

We lasted one day (two nights) then moved to a decent hotel
