2 of 5  Not impressed, good location, old hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, January 28, 2006

The Westin Peach Tree Center is ideally located to downtown, close to dining, Georgia World Congress Center and CNN. This is a very tall hotel, that is cylindrical in shape and has the "looks" of a nice hotel and the typical services--bellman, concierge, service express, High Speed Internet and the such. The problem is that everything is extra on top of a steep price already and this is an old hotel that has been renovated, but needs to be rebuilt.

I typically love SPG properties, but won't stay here again. Rude and indifferent staff at the front desk, lazy concierge and "expected" tips are enough to swallow, however stained sheets and curtains, rattling air conditioner and cramped bathroom made this stay less then heavenly.

You can tell they've spent some big bucks renovating, which I would call redecorating, but it doesn't make up for the old HVAC system and the musty smell in the rooms.

Room service burger was fast and good, Starbucks onsite and complimentary coffee in room, as well as a REAL hairdryer--that's nice. Good towels, but not enough to entice me back. Service Express is a nice feature, but $14.95 for high speed internet connection is ridiculous.

Concierge is less than imaginitive recommending Ruth's Chris or Mortons, when Dailey's is less than a block away. Just disappointed overall, not horrible, but not worth the money.

And again, stained sheets, just gross.

5 of 5  Grgreat view, A TripAdvisor Member, Indiana, April 8, 2009

On my way back from florida I decided to show my 15 yr old son how the "other side" lives, for one night. He loved it better than Florida, guess he loves the city, and worth the $200.This is the second time I did this , my other two sons loved it too back in 1990.......PS. treated nicely by staff too.thanks..Indianastan

5 of 5  No Complaints, A TripAdvisor Member, Hoover, Alabama, March 20, 2009

Went over for the March Market. No hotel is as convenient to the Market as the Plaza! Crosswalks connect and no need to get out in the weather. LOVE the view from our 48th floor room. Staff was great. TV remote stopped working; one call, five minutes and another was delivered. ACC b-ball tourney was the same weekend, but still no problem. Valet parking attendents were very nice and prompt. We go over every year and the Plaza is my first choice. Sure, there are bumps and bruises on the property, but for a hotel that old to still be as relevant and maintained as this one is nothing short of a miracle. I just wish the Starbuck's in the Lobby stayed open later.

5 of 5  Great, unique experience!, A TripAdvisor Member, Tennessee, January 26, 2009

First, to acknowledge the previous reviewers: Yes, the hotel is beginning to age a bit, and the carpet in the rooms is getting a bit threadbare.

But come on, friends! Why are you focusing on the carpet? Throw open the curtains in your room and enjoy the floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall windows with a panoramic view of a very interesting Atlanta skyline! The views from this hotel are amazing.

I've never eaten at the Sun Dial restaurant, but it's worth noting that the hotel has an observation deck above the Sun Dial. Simply show your room key to the Sun Dial elevator attendants, and they will let you onto the elevators to the observation deck. This is a great experience --- a 360 degree view of Atlanta, complete with free telescopes.

I think it's also fun to spend some time in the lobby. Don't forget to look up --- it's a visual maze of overhangs, seating areas, and floors and floors of conference space. There are plenty of comfy chairs, so grab a coffee from the in-house Starbucks and stay a while.

If you like tall buildings at all, you'll love this hotel. The elevators are turbocharged and will whisk you to the uppermost floors in no time. They shake a little in the shafts, but it's the normal feeling of speed.

The Heavenly Bed, as anybody who's stayed at a Westin knows, lives up to its name. This hotel also features the double-headed Westin shower (although the bathrooms are, admittedly, small).

My one complaint from my most recent stay is one that has been identified by other reviewers: when I arrived, I was told that the parking garage was full. I parked at a small surface lot right across a small street (designed for Hampton Inn guests but accessible by anyone). This was not a tremendous problem, but it seems that a major hotel like this would have sufficient parking to accommodate its guests.

Request a high floor and enjoy a night or two in this architectural masterpiece!

5 of 5  Excellent view and huge huge lobby, A TripAdvisor Member, Manchester, November 13, 2008

This is the second time we have stayed here and both times were as good as eachother. It is one of the tallest buildings in Atlanta and looks fab. Inside the room is plush and well decorated. The beds are very comfortable with lovely white crisp bedding, clean looking. Our view was fab overlooking the coke museum (which is in walking distance). Just check the location as it has moved in the 2 years since we were last in Atlanta.

The bathroom is well decorated also and tiled nicely. It does have valet parking although we didnt have a car this time and is a very short distance from the subway which cost only $1.75 from the airport and approx 15-20 mins. The lobby and foyer are amazing as the building is just huge! There is a starbucks in th lobby also. All rooms have starbucks coffe however a big bug bear of mine is that they give you one paper cup each in your room and only one normal and one decaf coffe sachet. I think for the price and the amount of business people evidently use the hotel, more coffee and substainable cups are in order. We do like this hotel as it is oue second time there. We would probably always stay here if ever visiting Atlanta again.

5 of 5  It was more than I thought it would be!, A TripAdvisor Member, Tampa, FL, October 7, 2008

I decided that after years of wondering what one of Atlanta's tallest buildings would be like for a nice, I stayed there. It was more than I could have expected.

First of all, the rooms are beautiful, and the bathrooms were exceptionally clean. The beds were more comfortable than I am used to for hotels, and the room service was top-notch.

I was on a Starwood Preferred floor, so I was up pretty high (which I was glad for) so there was NO street noise. While my room was one of the rooms that had damage from the tornado that hit Atlanta, the Westin staff did a wonderful job of concealing the blown out window with a nice covering that did not take away from the room or the view as two of the three windows were perfectly in tact.

I would highly recommend this for business travelers who want a nice hotel, great service and a comfortable sleep.

4 of 5  gotta do something about the smell, A TripAdvisor Member, retinurse, May 7, 2009

check in early on the 20th floor first room smelled like a damp basement .so did the second room ,changed rooms again this time the room had a false wall that covered up plywood that was put up because the room had no glass wall.Change room again for the fourth time this time on the 58th floor .Staff was very helpfull and pleasant. Room was wonderful. They staff went out of their way to make my five day stay that started off pretty bad and good expericence.Resturants, and bars closed very early due to hotel low occupancy rate. Food cost very expensive ate out side of hotel most of time.better food lower cost. Internet to costly

4 of 5  Location and view, A TripAdvisor Member, Georgia, April 15, 2009

While it is true this Westin could really do with some remodeling of the rooms, it makes up for in other areas. Very, very clean with extremely comfortable bed. We parked the first day at the hotel and either walked or rode the Marta train everywhere we went. We were upgraded to a mini suite which was a nice surprise. The only problem I encountered was that after swimming in to pool, my grandaughter was very irritated by the chemicals to the point of crying herself to sleep that night after repeated eye flushings and irritated "other sensitive area". So you may want to stay clear of it or only jump in for a brief time. Otherwise, the stay was wonderful.

4 of 5  Terrific view, location and service; below average room, A TripAdvisor Member, Buffalo, NY, March 12, 2009

I stayed at the Westin Peachtree for two nights for a conference in March.

With any high rise hotel, the biggest issue is typically whether or not there are a sufficient amount of elevators to prevent endless waiting and that they work well. On this account, the Westin scored well. The most I had to wait for an elevator was one minute.

The check-in was easy and they were kind enough to accomodate me when I checked in extremely early (9:30 a.m.). My room was on the 56th floor.

The view is spectacular. The room is tiny. It would have been cramped with two people. I had a standard room, so there may be bigger rooms in the hotel. The TV had not been updated to a flatscreen. The desk and chest of drawers were scratched and fairly beat up. The bathroom was microscopic. Of course, the heavenly bed was very nice. I didn't spend much time in the room, so I can't say it affected my stay much, but if you are traveling with any more than two people, you will feel cramped. I also really dislike being charged $15.00 a day for high speed wireless internet access.

The room was very clean, though, and the maid service was excellent.

The concierge was very helpful recommending places to dine. The hotel is easy walking distance to numerous restaurants, including the fantastic Dailey's (steak and seafood). It is also closeby to Centennial Park and the CNN building.

The fitness center was exceptional. There was a large selection of Cybex weight machines, and too much cardio equipment to name (all with personal TVs and earphones). It was well stocked with towels and bottled water. The pool was a good size to swim laps. All of the lounge chairs had comfy pads. There were also plenty of towels in the pool area.

I'm glad that I had the chance to experience this unique hotel. I would highly recommend it for the solo business traveler. Not so much for families with children.

4 of 5  Not bad at all, A TripAdvisor Member, Nashville, Tennessee, January 9, 2009

I really don't understand all the terrible reviews of this place. I guess your experience here is a bit hit-or-miss. We arrived late at night on a Saturday. The kids were tired and cranky (we had just driven up from Walt Disney World), we wanted to get the car valet parked, get checked in, watch a little tv and go to bed.

Everything we wanted happened. Without a hitch. The valet staff was wonderful, the woman who checked us in was as pleasant a person as you would want, our luggage was delivered promptly to our room (on the 65th floor... really cool) and our room was not just comfortable but luxurient.

The beds were ultra-comfortable, had lots of high-quality pillows and thick, soft sheets, blankets and comforters. The bathroom had a few issues (it's an old hotel) but the soaps and shampoos were not the typical junk you get in a hotel. The Starbucks for the in-room coffee maker was a big plus.

Too bad the weather sucked. When we opened our curtains, we were in a cloud. Our youngest daughter said, "It looks like we are in penguin land," I suppose because it was utterly white outside. Lucky for us, as we were about to go to bed, the weather cleared and we had a great view of Atlanta. Pretty cool place if you ask me.

4 of 5  Great City View, A TripAdvisor Member, Tennessee, December 18, 2008

Spent a romantic weekend in Atlanta. We ate @ the SunDial Restaurant on Saturday night, the food was excellent and the view was superb. Was somewhat disappointed that after all the time that has passed since the tornado, that we had a room in which only half the windows had been replaced. There was plywood on the other half of the windows in our room, the carpet in room was new and the room was really nice otherwise. Heavenly bed was just that! Great place to spend a special weekend. Do the valet parking, its easier and cheaper if you plan on being out and about Atlanta. The staff was very helpful in every way. Would definately recommend this hotel...

4 of 5  Comfortable Stay, A TripAdvisor Member, Iowa, November 16, 2008

I stayed at the Peachtree in early Nov. including election night. I found the hotel and room to be clean and comfortable. Many restaurants to select from in walking distance inlcuding Hard Rock. I felt safe although my travel companions were somewhat intimidated because of the large city and election uncertainty. Taxis are available to take you to a distant restaurant. The taxi ride from the airport was approx. 35 mins. Hotel has a Starbucks in the lobby.

Room was comfortable and clean. Shower actually had 2 heads and word game on the wall. Unique I would say.

Our meetings in the hotel were catered from the kitchen and were very good.

4 of 5  Lovely hotel, nice location., A TripAdvisor Member, Manchester, England, October 29, 2008

I stayed at this hotel as a single female business traveller which is always a worry....however - what a nice hotel, lovely staff etc - great location. Felt very safe. They were even very nice when I drove my hire car into one of their car park walls......!! (It was an automatic, I am British, what DID they expect??) -- anyway, I stayed on the Club Floor AND I got a free upgrade of a separate lounge. The lounge was unbelievable....its just a shame I was on my own and did not have a cat to swing. The club food and drinks were lover-ly!! Great views over Atlanta -- saw some great lightning stoms. And if you get a chance, take some time out and go and see the Botanical Gardens in Atlanta. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

4 of 5  Central Location, A TripAdvisor Member, Orange County, CA, August 4, 2008

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. It was centrally located hotel. We did not rent a car, we simply walked every where and at times took the MARTA. It is an easy walk to CNN, Coca cola, the aquarium, etc.

Our room was on the 34th floor. It had a beautiful view of downtown. Hotel was clean and staff was friendly. Great restaurants in walking distance, just ask the concierge and they will provide you with a list. Unlimited internet access for $16 a day. I would stay here again!

3 of 5  Just OK, nice view and location, A TripAdvisor Member, canton, GA, June 15, 2009

My husband and I stayed here for one night when we had an engagement downtown and did not want to drive home that night. We had a room on one of the highest floors and the view was nice. The room was ok- clean, but nothing special. The bathroom seemed a little small, but again was clean. We had a noisy a/c that kept me up all night, but I didn't want to call in the middle of the night, so I suffered through it. They did credit me $10, but it was not a great night. Overall, it is a nice hotel in a good location for downtown Atlanta activities like Aquarium, Coke Museum, CNN, etc. Parking is very expensive, but it is a big city.

3 of 5  Great location and view, but arrogant reception, A TripAdvisor Member, Georgia, April 17, 2009

My family of four traveled to Atlanta to watch an Atlanta Hawks basketball game. We wanted to stay within walking distance to Philips Arena, so we booked one night at the Westin through Expedia.com. We were delighted to find valet parking attendants who were friendly and timely in taking care of our vehicle. We were impressed upon entering the Westin's lobby, but our impression quickly changed as we checked-in at the desk on the far right. An aloof, older gentleman asked for our name, then brought our information up on the computer. My husband proceeded to show him our AAA and Starwood membership cards to ask if we were entitled to any additional discounts. He quickly told us that since we booked on Expedia, he could not adjust our account. I told him that was fine, and asked him what type bedding was in our room. He told me very sharply that he could not tell me because we had booked through Expedia. I was stunned how he could not know what accommodations we had in our room just because we had booked online. In short, this employee was rude and arrogant, and seemingly annoyed, because we had booked online. He possessed a "holier than thou" attitude to paying guests of his employer. When we reached our room, which contained 2 double beds, we were amazed by the spectacular view of downtown Atlanta. I will say that the room was MUCH too small for 4 people; however, it would have been fine for 1-2 persons. The hotel was very clean and most other employees were quite friendly. Pool area was unbearably muggy and hot like a sauna.

3 of 5  Great location if you are going to sight see in Atlanta, A TripAdvisor Member, DC, April 12, 2009

The Westin Peachtree could use a little work in the cleanliness category and staffing. When I checked in there was a long wait -- 8 customers ahead of me and one person working at the Reception desk. When we travel, we book two rooms to accomodate our family. The rooms at this hotel could use a facelift - they weren't dirty, but they weren't clean, either --- just felt as if they could use a good old fashioned spring cleaning. Easy walk from the hotel to the Aquarium and to Coke. When I asked for a Starwood Preferred Guest room, I was told that this hotel didn't have any rooms in that category. I am not sure what that means. But, if you travel a lot, like we do - you may be better off using Hilton Honors than Starwood Preferred when you are in Atlanta. Pricey parking at $26.00 a night.

3 of 5  So-So Hotel, but not like other Westins, A TripAdvisor Member, Ganesville, FL, March 22, 2009

This was our first trip to Westin. It is still revoering from the tornados that came through a year ago. However, the reservation site does not notify the traveler of this.

The hotel is showing it's age and while things look more contemporary, carpet and such could use an up-do.

What upset me most about this property is the way they handle billing. We were going to use our debit card, however, they authorize the room rate, $50/per day for incidentals and then 40% of the total bill. So a two day stay could easily sap $700 from your account for a stay that was originally 140/night.

Please note using a bonafide credit card will result in missing the 40%.

3 of 5  wallet stolen, A TripAdvisor Member, North Carolina, March 16, 2009

after registering I got on elevator to go to room, while on way to room in crowded elevator someone took my wallet out of my purse. Staff was helpful, but I felt like there should have been more security with ACC tourmanent and large crowd that was there. Maintenance came quickly when heater made loud noise, repairs made to satisfaction. Staff was very courteous, and very friendly. Manager went out of his way to help after wallet stolen.

3 of 5  Average Hotel with Above Average Prices, A TripAdvisor Member, New York, March 2, 2009

We recently went to Atlanta on a family getaway weekend. We mostly went to see the aqarium as that was what our daughter wanted to do. Originally we were going to stay at the Ritz Carlton but ultimately we decided to stay at the Westin because they have a pool and we thought that would be a good thing to do with a young child, especially if the weather were bad (which it was).

Overall this hotel is just average, which is unfortunate because it could be a really nice place to stay. The Westin Peachtree Plaza is the largest hotel in the western hemisphere. It is a cool building- round, with floor to ceiling windows in every room and truly amazing views. Unfortunately the rooms have not been maintained and kept up to date. Everything is worn out. We requested a suite and the suite we got we just two adjoining rooms that had been converted to a suite, instead of two rooms that had been built to be a suite. I guess this is not such a big deal but we had to keep the doors between the rooms open and that sucked up a lot of space - you had to do a lot of walking around doors to get from one spot to another. Our daughter slept on the pull out couch in the "living room". Only a child who has no concept of bed comfort could sleep on that couch. The whole thing slanted and the mattress was ultra thin. The bars in the pull-out poked through - it was just awful.

We also had more need to call the front desk with problems than at other hotels we've stayed at. Some of the problems were resolved in a very timely fashion, others required several follow up phone calls. Inconsistancy in service is just frustrating.

The food at the hotel was okay - nothing special. Although we did dine one night at the restaurant on top of the hotel which spins around - the food there was excellent and the service was fantastic. We had a great experience there.

The pool was also pretty nice. A little on the chilly side but it fulfilled our desire to stay in a location with a pool and it was clean and large.

With a few upgrades and slightly better service this hotel could be a great place to stay. Unfortunately, in its current condition, I would recommend finding a different hotel to stay in.

2 of 5  Horribly run down and not like other Westins, A TripAdvisor Member, Washington, D.C., May 27, 2009

I have been a loyal Westin customer for some time and I have always enjoyed my stays there, however this Westin really let me down. When I came to check in the line was ridiculously slow with only two people attending. Upon check-in I requested a dog bed and bowls (they did not acknowledge the fact that I put that in my reservation). They never brought the bowls. Then when we got to our room I was disgusted. I am not a very high maintenance person but this was just wrong. The carpet had gross stains all over it, the furniture was stained and scratched, the beds were poorly made, the bathroom was tiny and tired, and worst of all it smelled like cigarettes. I immediately went down and requested another room. I thought it was odd that the gentleman only moved us down three rooms and yet the room was completely different, not amazing but better. This led me to believe that they saw that I had a dog with me and gave me a crappy room. This is wrong, if this is a pet friendly hotel I should be treated like any other customer.

Also the luggage people were awfully slow, the parking is insanely expensive, and most importantly the last day there the bathtub got completely clogged. Thankfully we were leaving so I didn't even bother dealing with it. Also, when we requested an extra blanket they brought us a vile, dirty, rag that looked like it had never been washed and was enough to cover a toy bear not a human being.

2 of 5  Service terrible, A TripAdvisor Member, Toronto, May 4, 2009

It's difficult to find even with a GPS navigator.

This is supposed to be a 4 star but they have cut back so much and it is readily apparent. They have plastic cheap glasses like the ones you see at Super 6 and other budget hotels. It took 25 minutes to checkin as there was only one receptionist. Imagine that 1 for 1000+ room property. Tha bar lobby was closed and the only option was upstairs which we didn't want.

They wouldn't get us a taxi and we ended up eating at an ordinary place as, since they told us, all the good restaurants are 20 minutes away in places like Buckhead.

Very disappointed.

2 of 5  Looks cool from outside, and lobby...Once you enter the room things change, A TripAdvisor Member, Charlotte, North Carolina, March 2, 2009

We arrived at the Westin Peachtree hotel, which claims to be one of the tallest hotels on the east coast at 75 stories. We were booked in a double room on floor 65. Normally when I stay at a W or Westin property, I do not have anything to complain about, unfortunately this time I cannot say the same.

Located in the downtown area, we had a view of not too much except a couple buildings, which wasnt the real problem. The real problem was with the dated rooms and hallways. It felt as if I were staying in a cheap hotel in the middle of nowhere with a good view. The carpets were sketchy and seemed dirty. There was a tube tv which had a distorted picture, there were watermarks all on the ceilings and walls looks like some plumbing issues as well. The bathroom was old but it got the job done. That was probably the cleanest part of the room.

The staff was friendly and they are working with what they have, but definitely think about staying at the one in Buckhead or the W in midtown or buckhead before staying here.

2 of 5  In Desperate Need of Renovation, A TripAdvisor Member, Switzerland, November 11, 2008

What a major disappointment... The Westin chain is known for its stylish, high quality properties. The Peachtree is nowhere near that standard.

The property, in general, is just tired. If you don't look at it too closely, everything seems fine. But if you let your eyes linger anywhere - and I really do mean anywhere - you see that the carpet is worn or stained, the furniture is beaten up and the general condition is just plain tired. Not at all what you would expect for a Westin.

The staff is perfectly fine and helpful, but they, too, set unrealistic expectations. At check-in, I was told "Good news; we have you in a renovated room." He was correct - it had been renovated - but he failed to mention that the renovations must have been done five to seven years ago. Based on the condition of my room, I would hate to see an un-renovated room.

If given a choice, do not stay at this property until they give it a major facelift. Otherwise, you will just be disappointed. There are tons of better hotels in the immediate area - and at the same pricepoint.

2 of 5  A Westin that should be a Sheraton, A TripAdvisor Member, Easton, October 29, 2008

All of the average reviews of this hotel hit the nail on the head. For a Westin, it's not a very good hotel. Starwood should downgrade it to a Sheraton if it doesn't get up to par. Front desk is very slow, along with valet parking, package pickup and even Service Express. First room I checked into was on the 61st floor and only had one small window. All the other windows had been replaced with plywood. It was like being in a box. Went back to lobby & changed to another room. Good view of downtown Atlanta, standard Westin room. No real attention to detail on cleaning the room. I expect an exceptional hotel from Westin. I would say it's a good value for money if you get a room here under $125, more than that it's not really worth it.

2 of 5  If you have a choice, choose elsewhere, A TripAdvisor Member, Bloomington, IN, October 23, 2008

Mediocrity all around. If you don't look too closely, things look okay. Just okay. If you are like me and spend a lot of time in hotels, then you will be disappointed. For me, a room that is not clean and in good working order is a deal-breaker.

The dust is everywhere. My desk telephone was COVERED with dust. The alarm clock is covered with dust. The bed ledge is covered with dust. It's disgusting.

My desk lamp has no light bulb. The floor lamp has no light bulb.

The faucet was improperly installed, so one of the faucet knobs is turned backwards to be off...the other faces forward.

The walls are thin. I could hear my next door neighbors doing the deed earlier. I have heard LOTS of chatter as people go to and fro.

When I walked in and saw the bed, I wondered if it had been made. It was not pretty.

Despite the bad, there is some good. The staff have all been very friendly. The location is in the heart of downtown just blocks from the Aquarium, Olympic Park and CNN. Some rooms have AMAZING views, and I was lucky enough to get one of them. I am on the 62nd floor and I am literally looking DOWN on skyscrapers. The city lights are beautiful at night. Even during the day, it's pretty cool to look out and see all the huge arenas and stadiums that are miles away. Even the airport is visible from my room, and it is 15 minutes away on the highway.

Basically, this place needs a facelift and more attention to cleaning. Just doing a better job of cleaning would be good for starters. I would have given it a 3 or 4 for just having a clean room, but it is just too gross right now. You shouldn't have to be fearful of picking up the telephone or touching the alarm clock.

2 of 5  Starwood needs to give this one a facelift, A TripAdvisor Member, North Carolina, October 21, 2008

I stayed here 5 tears ago & thought it was fabulous so I thought I would try it again since it was close to the shows. The lobby appeared to be the same with more lounge areas and the tiny Starbucks needs to expand to serve the long lines better. There is one very pricey rest. downstairs for breakfast ONLY, extremely over priced but the food was very good and the prices are expected for a supposed 4 star hotel.

The only other food choices are all the way to the top of the tower serving lunch & dinner & again very pricey. They used to have a more moderate priced rest. downstairs but said they got rid of it. The decor needs updating & the rooms need a major overhaul, the carpet was dirty, the tub looked worn & old, there were cracks in the sink & it took 10 minuted for the toilet to flush. The room are small & have not changed one bit in 5 years!

The beds were nothing like what they advertise, the comforters were nice & heavy though. The TV is like old school- no updated flat screen like other hotels in it's class. I read somewhere that they had completely renovated this place in 2006 so I thought it would be great, not true & when you ask they say next year they are planning the big renovation. I have stayed in many starwood places & this one is in poor condition for the price. Save your money & stay elsewhere until they get it updated. A new Hampton Inn will blow this place away!

2 of 5  Filthy room, A TripAdvisor Member, San Francisco, California, September 22, 2008

Expecting something comfortable and business like at least worthy of 3.5 *'s... arrived at a huge conference venue, downtown right by the Peachtree Plaza station (so really convenient to get in from the airport on the train (Marta). Staff were friendly and accommodating.

Was given a room on the 34th floor, but when I got up there I found it the window was 2 feet wide, so the room was pretty dark. I asked for another room and without any problem was given one on the 24th floor. Very helpful staff.

However, the room itself was disgusting. The carpet was stained, there were grease stains on the headboard, the sheets on the second bed were crushed (clean though), the veneer on the desk was peeling, there was an iron burn on the chair, the curtains were hanging off and the basedboard was chipped and sorely in need of paint.

Not recommending this hotel, there are plenty of alternatives downtown

2 of 5  Not up to Westin standards...chose another in Atlanta!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Charlotte, North Carolina, September 15, 2008

Even though I use my points (I am at Platinum level with Starwood)...I still would expect more from this level of hotel!!

I'll start off with the good part...the employees were all super nice and friendly! I'll give them 5-stars on their customer service!

Now to the real part...we booked 2 rooms because of the location...it's right downtown and within walking distance to pretty much everything popular. You get absolutely NO benefits or perks even though I was a Platinum member...I got more at other lower end Starwood properties!

The rooms were old and worn and a bit small...especially the bathroom...you can't stand 2 in there at a time! The couch had a large hole, the carpets were stained, the shower knob was moldy and even one of the washclothes was partly shredded! I would expect a whole lot more if I was paying the $220 a night that they charge, but I hate that I even wasted 10,000 points PER ROOM for this quality!

Completely disappointed and you can be sure that I will not be using points or $$ to stay here again. There was a nice Hampton Inn just beside that looked much nicer!!

2 of 5  Not up to Westin Standards, A TripAdvisor Member, Nashville, TN, September 8, 2008

I stayed here on two separate occasions in March and each time the Westin did not meet expectations. I travel every week for work, and have stayed in many Starwood properties - I am platinum level. My first stay was just ok - the hotel is very old, and the rooms need renovating. They are all pie shaped, which results in an odd bathroom with a tiny door. The carpets on both occasions were stained. On my second stay, I went up to the room upon check-in to put my things down and run out to dinner, and the room was filled with cigarette stench (even though the Westin is supposed to be non-smoking). The front desk was accomodating and did move me to another room. The issues with this room were: stained carpet, furniture in bad shape, the bed was anything BUT "heavenly" and there were used bars of soap on the sink and in the shower. The cleaning staff also failed to replace the shampoo and conditioner. Lastly, the rooms do not have a full-lenght mirror. All in all, if you are a Starwood person looking to get more points and keep status, it's ok - might as well stay for a night or two. All other travelers - look elsewhere. Try the Omni or the Embassy Suites. UPDATE: this hotel suffered damage from the tornados a few months ago and might be improved now.

2 of 5  ran down and dumpy, A TripAdvisor Member, Mesa, AZ, September 2, 2008

I needed a hotel to stay for Dragon*Con so I used Hotwire and they had a 4 star downtown hotel for $139.00 a night. I baught it and it turned out to be the Westin Peachtree plaza. It was convieniently located to where I needed to be and close to the Marta station. The view from the 44th floor was great. My complaints are that the room was old and worn out. The carpet was well worn, soiled, and stained. The furniture was well worn as well as the bed. The bathroom was small and the sink was full of cracks. Normally this hotel is very expensive and definately not worth the cost. I wouldn't have stayed if it wasn't for Hotwire to put me there. If they would invest some money and renovate the rooms it wouldn't be so bad.

2 of 5  Try another..., A TripAdvisor Member, Florida, August 3, 2008

I have stayed at many Westin properties and this is the first that truly disappointed in every way.

The staff was not very helpful and missed many opportunities to enhance the service experience.

The elevators are profoundly slow, and there were always some that were not working, which did become a problem. As I had a toddler with a stroller, I could not go down the escalator. The lobby is located on the fifth floor, to get to the fourth floor I needed to take the service elevator, which was not working. Needless to say, I held my child with one hand and the stroller in the other hand down the escalator. I lost my balance and fell, other hotel guests assisted me but the staff just looked. We were not hurt, just angry.

The rooms are filthy, carpet is dirty, couch is stained/torn. We were told they only had double beds which is not comfortable if you are over 5'8".

Room service took longer than said time but food was good, breakfast in the cafe was excellent. Going to the pool was an obstacle course.

Little value for price paid especially when there is a Ritz very close by.

1 of 5  not worth 2 Stars, dirty, broken furniture, phone did not work, noisy, A TripAdvisor Member, Fort Myers, February 1, 2009

Although having a nice view at the 65th floor this hotel is certainly not a 5Star place. Broken furniture, phone did not work and was not fixed, extremely noisy due to kids in room next to it alathough we stayed at starwood prefered floor.

The restaurant on top is a nice viewing point the food more mediocre.

1 of 5  Westin is overrated, A TripAdvisor Member, atlanta, January 13, 2009

My boyfriend booked a room for us on New Years as a suprise. It was very much a let down for both of us. He asked the staff member specifically for a room that faced the fireworks. She said it did.. Unfortunately we realised it did not have a view of the fireworks. When we arrived at valet parking they told us

there wasn't any more room. My boyfriend had to convince him of our being guests. We then enter the hotel and find it in a bit of disarray. Te elevator floors were dirty as well as the hallways had not been vacuumed for some time. We enter the room and there is a chinese take out menu on the floor. The carpet in this room was very dingy and not vacuumed. . The bathroom was sloppily done and the sink faucett worked erratically and the showerhead was not working properly. The furniture was scratched up and not terribly comfortable. No paper menu's in the suite although there are catalogs for their products and other nicer hotels. Breakfast came an hour after ordering without a service table. You also had to account for you own mini bar usage. And to top it off we waited at least 15 mins. for them to retrieve our car and then paid the HOURLY Rate on our parking. We could have had a fabulous time in Las vegas show included for the price we paid for a single night here. Tourists will be sorely disappointed.

1 of 5  Awful!!!!!!!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Rock Hill, SC, December 8, 2008

My husband and I arrived at the Westin on Friday, December 5th around 9:00 pm. We were staying for the SEC Championship game between Alabama and Florida. We pulled into the valet parking and were told that we could not park in valet. They were full. My husband explained that I had recently had my hip replaced and could not walk. They told us I could get out there and my husband could park the car across the street. Completely unacceptable. John is a preferred starwoods customer and they still did not do anything for us. I hate to think if you aren't a starwoods preferred member. It got worse from there. We checked in without any problem. I wish I had asked her name because she was the best! We were checking in 3 rooms. She took the names of the other two rooms and our room and said there would be no problem. John had 2 clients and their wives staying in the other 2 rooms. At 2:30 in the morning on of them tried to check in. They gave them the key and they came up. They put the key in the lock and nothing happened. It was our room. They went back to the lobby and they called our room at 2:30 in the morning. My husband thought it was straightende out. Then at 3:15 they called again. They sent the luggage to the wrong room. The elevators were the worst I have EVER seen. It was a horrible experience to say the least. I would NEVER stay at this hotel again and I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone for anything. Outside of all of that, the rooms are old, the furniture is chipped and worn and the carpet is a joke. Incredible. Run from this hotel!!

1 of 5  Desperate need of refurbishment, A TripAdvisor Member, Canton, MI, November 19, 2008

Arrived at hotel and walked into lobby our first impression was wow! Front desk staff very helpful and fast. Honored our request for a high floor with a view.

Once arriving on the floor the 62nd, got off the eleavator to dirty hallways, wallpaper coming off walls. Once in the room the windows that were damaged by the tornado were so badly fogged up you could not see the view until daylight. The room was dirty and mold in the bathroom, most items in the servi-bar were expired, not by a few months but years! Complained to management and items were replaced however, from the expired by years to expired by months. Stayed away from that. Management compensated by offering dinner in the Sun Dial, this was fantastic.

Would recommend returning after 2010 when refurbishment is complete. Or would recommend just enjoying the Sun Dial.

1 of 5  Leftover Chicken, A TripAdvisor Member, New York, NY, October 28, 2008

I'm a consultant, so I travel for business, typically staying at hotels 3 nights each week. I stay at hotels ranging from The Four Seasons to The Holiday Inn, depending on our client's location and our project budget. Of all the hotels I've stayed at, this was the worst so far.

The first issue was the broken shower. After waiting for 30 minutes for someone to take a look, the consensus was that it couldn't be fixed that night. The internet didn't work either (another 30 minutes on the phone with Sprint). I was moved to another room.

The second issue was that this room had not been made up. It had internet, though, so I typed away next to the leftover fried chicken and cole slaw.

Management took a long time to find a new room for me. It was now 1:30 am. I called to complain. The manager told me she didn't have time for this and that in a big hotel, things happen. She said it was my fault for not having notified someone immediately that the room hadn't been made up (I thought that 2 minutes was pretty close...?). I've had plenty of hotel snafoos, but this is the first time I've been blamed for it.

I'm now sitting in a room that has internet, a working shower, and a bed that hasn't been slept in, but it took three and a half hours to execute the switch. To me, three and a half hours of additional sleep would have been well worth staying elsewhere. I advise you to do the same.

1 of 5  Stay away! Terrible experience., A TripAdvisor Member, Chicago, IL, October 23, 2008

I cannot stress enough that I recommend selecting any other hotel property in downtown Atlanta other than this dirty, disorganized, filthy customer service nightmare! My first room smelled too awful to stay in...and was replete with broken furniture, frayed carpet, and no TV remote. Because my repeated calls to the front desk went unanswered, I lugged my bags downstairs to complain and be assigned another room. This, too, was dirty. The previous occupant's used water bottle was under the couch for goodness sakes. At that point I had little fight left in me. But the icing on the cake occurred as I was about to step into the shower. I heard the door click and it was apparent that someone else had also been given a key to this room. I was terrified!!! Frankly, explanations about computer snafus don't cut it. Poor service, filthy, unsafe. Stay away.

1 of 5  Everything smells yucky!, A TripAdvisor Member, NYC, October 13, 2008

Seriously, the pillows smell farty and the towels smell like feet. The blanket had dark spots in it when held up to the light, which was really disgusting and I pray it's not related to bedbugs. The carpet was fraying badly at the edges. The handle bar for the tub was coming out of the wall. They also charged me one extra night by mistake, which they casually "adjusted" without any apology. Stay away from this place!

1 of 5  More problems than I have ever had at a hotel!, A TripAdvisor Member, Dothan, AL, September 10, 2008

I went to Atlanta for DragonCon 2008 with a bunch of friends. One of my friends had booked the Westin for 4 nights through Expedia since all of the DragonCon hotels were booked and the Westin was close by. When we arrived, it seemed nice enough. I haven't stayed in many big hotels like this, so I was pretty impressed. The room was on the 22 floor (high enough for my tastes!), and it seemed to have been recently renovated. I was looking forward to a nice stay.

On the first night, Thursday, we realized the sink was leaking onto the floor from the pipes, and after one of my friends tried to mess with it, it got severely clogged up. Eh, things happen. We tried to call the operator several times the next morning, and we couldn't get anyone. Finally we went down to the front desk and informed them of the problem. Several hours later, they came to fix it. It took several hours of them snaking the pipes from the room adjacent to us. I was trying to take a cat nap during this time to get ready for a late night, and it was impossible. Constant extremely loud scraping noises from the bathroom for HOURS. They eventually got it working, and it was fine.

On Saturday, we were about to leave when we realized there was black smoke totally blocking our window, and it was coming from below us. We tried to call the Emergency line, and no one would answer. We ran into the hallway and found some housekeepers, and they weren't worried at all. By the time we got down to the lobby and outside, whatever it had been was put out, but there were firetrucks pulling up. I was just really perturbed that we couldn't get anyone to help us when WE THOUGHT THE BUILDING WAS ON FIRE.

Sunday, I don't think there was anything wrong, amazingly.

Monday, our toilet clogged up and began to overflow. This happened while I was out of the room, so I'm not sure about the response time. When we got back to the room at about 11pm that night, the toilet overflowed again, and it kept running. We tried to call down to the "Service Express" line, and no one would answer. I eventually went down to the front desk and told the clerk what was going on. She was very short with me, but she told me they were sending someone up right then. About 10 minutes had passed by the time I got back up to the room, and no one was there yet! The water was literally flowing out into the room! Luckily, one of the guys I was with was able to stop it from running. I went down to the front desk again, and the woman gave me nothing but attitude. I informed her that we would be expecting a large discount for all of the trouble, but she told me that wasn't something that she had any control over, and we would have to talk to the manager in the morning. We ended up switching rooms at almost 1am because they finally made it up to the room and were working on the toilet (after we waited for over 30 minutes). This was our last night, and we had an entire van full of stuff in the room to move only to pack again the next day, so needless to say we WERE NOT happy!

The next day, the lady who paid for the room through Expedia went down to talk to the manager. At first, all they were going to do was take off the valet charges. They said they couldn't do a refund because it was booked through Expedia, blah blah blah. They told her they would talk to their Accounting person and see what they could do, but I'm not sure if that ever happened. I haven't seen her since we got back, so I'm not sure if they ever gave her any money back.

Needless to say, I will NEVER stay at this hotel again! It was pretty on the surface, but turned out to be a monster. We weren't the only ones either, because every time we were in the lobby, there was an irrate guest. Even barring everything that happened, the staff were rude and unhelpful from day one. The only guy that was at all nice was the valet that we saw when we first arrived. Everyone else was awful. It seemed odd to me as well that out of the dozens of staff I encountered over the 5 days, I never saw one white American. Not that I have a problem with that, it just seemed weird.

1 of 5  there are thieves working there, A TripAdvisor Member, houston, August 30, 2008

We stayed in that hotel for two nights. Not only I found the hotel being mediorcre, someone ( cleaning crew or the security ) stole a polo sports jacket we happened to leave behind. We went back to the hotel to check a couple of hours later, the jacket was gone. And I left the info with the security department, they never bothered to call back to give me an answer. And when I called the hotel today, I was surprised that there was not even a loss and found report to be found. What a joke! 3107 was the room we stayed. Stay away from this hotel

1 of 5  Run down and overpriced!!, A TripAdvisor Member, washington, July 29, 2008

I was here for a convention and this was the hotel that someone in our group reserved. Beginning with check-in, we were a group of three gals in one room. We were told that we were booked into a room with only 1 king bed, when we originally were booked with 2 queen beds. They said that they would bring a bed up as soon as possible. Well.... 2am rolls around with a knock at our door.....finally the bed was here! As for the room, the wall paper was peeling off in 2-3 foot sheets. The carpet was filthy too. This room was worth maybe half of what we paid for it. As someone else mentioned the vagrants hanging outside of the hotel were very pushy. Not once did we see a smile out of one hotel staff members. They were rude and not willing to help out with any problems. Save your money and don't stay here.
