Great stay at the Sheraton | Read all reviews
We went to Tampa for a wedding, and wanted to stay downtown. After reading all the reviews on here, I was very worried about staying at this hotel, since the reviews seemed to be consistently bad. With much trepidation, we decided to give it a try. We had a wonderful stay!! The room was very clean, and well lit, our room had a balconey that overlooked downtown. The bathroom had marble countertops and they even provide a full size hairdryer. Everyone from the bellhop to the front desk was very courteous. We did not park our car in the valet parking, we parked our rental car in the Musuem of Art parking lot. There is a valet there for the restaraunt, so it safe! It only costs us $3 a night! Downtown was deserted making it easy to get around on the weekend. Our room had a queen size bed, which was very comfortable. The hotel is very close to Ebor City, Channel Side (the only good thing there if your over 25 is NYPD pizza. We were not impressed with the nightlife. Daily papers were provided at our door. There is a small gift shop in the hotel lobby. We did not eat in the restaraunt, but did have a few drinks in the bar. I would definitely stay at this hotel again, and would recommend it. Only one elevator was working, since the other one was being renovated. The room does not have a mini bar, they do provide water bottles at $3.50 a bottle.

Got a great deal on this hotel though priceline. We found the rooms very clean and comfortable, and the location perfect. The staff was EXTREMELY friendly. The next time we visit Tampa, this is where we will stay! We went to Tampa for a wedding, and wanted to stay downtown. We took a girls trip to Tampa March 26-28 and stayed at the Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk. When we arrived, we found our reservations had been mishandled. They realized their mistake and upgraded us to the concierge level which included free breakfast and afternoon drinks. This was a very nice, clean hotel and I would definitely stay here again. I checked in at 9am (red-eye flight) and was greeted by friendly valet. The hotel had a nice garden in the front and the landscaping was well kept. Jose (sp?) the front desk manager checked me in and he was great. I was only there for one night (business meeting the next morning) and Jose planned my entire day (lot's to do in Tampa!) He upgraded me to the top floor with a view due to my gold status. The rooms were clean and well layed out. The outlets in the desk were a convenient feature. Wireless throughout the hotel and the concierge lounge attendant (Norma) was friendly. The food at the restaurant was very good (lobster streudel) and but the service was mediocre (at best.) Marco (sp?) checked me out the next day and was friendly and inquired thoroughly about my stay. I left the hotel thinking that it was a very smooth experience and I would definitely come back. The hotel was absolutely awesome. My husband and I went to the Faith Hill and Tim McGraw concert this weekend and the area was very busy. We pulled up and the valet was quick to help us. They offered luggage help but I only had an overnight bag. Went to the front desk and a tall man (Jorge?) in a suit checked us in. He was very nice and we felt like we were getting the royal treatment! What a wonderful asset to the Sheraton Brand! He upgraded us and we went to the room. The room was spacious and comfortable...everything looked new! My husband felt at home because of the 50+ channels the tv had. We called for a late check later on that evening and the girl was very friendly and gave us a 1pm check out. We got dressed up and asked for directions to the concert at the front desk. There were three people including Jorge there and they all were helping guests. Jorge recognized me and mentioned the shuttle could take us to the concert. What great service! The concert was awesome and we slept in the next day. Upon check out, Marco (sp?) was there and he was very friendly too. Everyone was fantastic and we had an awesome time. I visit a lot of hotels and this is one of my favorites! I had to cut my trip short and cancel my room past the cancellation deadline. The reservations manager called me (at my request) and proactively offered to waive the cost. She was extremely courteous and understanding. They could have nailed me for the room cost and chose instead to put my interests first. Can't comment on the facility but customer relations gets A+. Came down to Tampa for a buddy's wedding. This Sheraton is in the center of downtown Tampa along the Hillsborough River and couldn't have been more perfect for the wedding at the Tampa Club across the street Hotel looks like an older hotel (former Radisson) recently renovated. Small, but attractive lobby, friendly staff, and very nice rooms. The King-bed rooms have the new Sheraton look, with comfy bed, LG flatscreen, attractive furniture, and a very comfy sofa. Terrace overlooking the river was a nice feature, although the outdoor furniture was kind of cheap. Not a big deal. Hotel had free wifi throughout which although we didn't need it, is a huge plus for full service hotels. Didn't use the gym or the restaurant/bar so can't comment on those items. Valet parking was $16 (too expensive), so we found plenty of on street parking on Franklin across the street. Had to feed the meter a few times on Saturday, but wasn't a big deal. Overall nice hotel, would be happy to return for the great rate we got. This hotel was excellent, very clean although they are renovating. Our room had a riverwalk view. The only thing my husband hated was the forced valet parking. He has issues with people parking his car. He has issues with not having control of his keys and car at all times. I was too tired to care where the car was. He also despises tipping so that was all up to me when the valet would bring out car around. They were very pleasant always offering directions or maps. They were very helpful and patient while we unloaded our four sleeping children every night. We never ate at the restaurant although it smelled good. We have 4 kids and try to avoid restaurants at all costs. The internet was free which was nice. The parking was not, 14.00 a day. Nice flat screen in both rooms. I think I paid around 68.00 a room on priceline. The location was fantastic, very close to the aquarium which I highly recommend. We would definitely stay here again. I cannot agree with any negative reviews of this hotel. The employees could not have been nicer from the shuttle driver, to the restaurant staff, to the gift shop clerk. My room, 515, was clean, very roomy with a couch, large king sized bed with great bedding and spacious desk and brand new LG TV! I had a balcony that faced the river and I enjoyed that so much. There is a bit of construction outside with a new ballroom being built but I did not hear one bit of noise in my room. The restaurant food was very good at breakfast, lunch and dinner. My only concern was that housekeeping was a bit noisy in the hallways in the late mornings. I would stay at this hotel again and would highly recommend it! We stayed for 2 nights in a king-bed room overlooking the river. Location, 4 stars: view of Hillsborough River, close to downtown (less than 15 minutes walk to convention center, Harbor Island, Tampa University, some museums and restaurants), quiet and safe neighborhood. Facility, 3 stars: decent restaurant and bar (not visited), outdoor swimming pool with river view, spacious clean room with balcony and coffee station, comfortable bed and pillows. Need to improve bath tub drainage (slow during shower), repair ice machine (on my floor), replace carpets in public areas (unpleasant look, not necessarily dirty or moldy). Free van shuttle, 4 stars: semi on-demand service to 3 popular areas (Channelside Plaza near cruise terminals, Ybor City and Hyde Park Village). This was a surprise benefit, since their website does not mention it. Our request to be dropped off at the cruise terminal was granted also. Staff and service, 4 stars: the front desk people were always helpful and courteous, the shuttle drivers were particularly helpful to tourists in suggesting places and answering questions. Maid service was as good as expected. To be fair, this Sheraton is a bit below the same brand in other major cities. I can understand other reviewers' frustration if they thought all Sheratons are created equal. But consider that this location is an acquired old hotel about a year ago. I hope they would start renovation slowly but surely. I really enjoyed this hotel. The beds are like sleeping on a cloud! Yes, I'd say the $14 a day parking charge, but you are downtown. This is better than some other cities. Room service could be better. I thought it was a bit sloppy at times. My bathroom had been renovated and was really beautiful. Downside - new vanities were really made for someone taller than 5'2. Great new hair dryers and ample size amenities. Overall my experience was not bad. The staff was very friendly. Check-in was exceptionally fast. We were in town for the bar exam, and considering the number of other people sharing the hotel at the time, everything was very smooth. We ordered room service the first night and our food was delivered within 20 minutes. The meal was very good and the bill was not outrageous. I encountered housekeeping on two occasions and both times they were courteous and quickly willing to return at a later time. On the days I saw them, they came a little after ten and around eleven in the morning. We dined in the restaurant for lunch one day. Our waitress was pleasant and she promptly brought us our food and check (in around 30 minutes total) when we told her we were on a tight time schedule. If you stay and can, take advantage of the "Club Room". Since we were not paying for the room, I am uncertain if the extra cost (if applicable) is worth it, but they offer a free breakfast and afternoon happy hour. The attendants in the club room were extremely friendly. The breakfast left a little to be desired, but there was a sufficient amount of fruits, pastries, cereals, etc. The happy hour lasted a good while (5:30 - 8:30). The wine choices were decent (particularly for free wine) and they had a nice selection of beers including Amstel Light, Corona Light and other imports. As for the rooms, overall they were decent. The free wireless was nice and the connection was great. The bathroom was very nice for a hotel. There were limited "drawers" for clothing, however, there was the equivalent of an oversized hanging shoe holder in the closet where you could place t-shirts, shorts, etc. To make up for some of the lack of "folded clothing space" the closet had numerous hangers for clothing. The bed was one of the more comfortable I have been on while staying at a hotel. The television was a nice size and there were many channels to choose from. On the down side, the a/c unit was not great. The first night of our stay we just couldn't seem to get the room to cool properly. It may have been something with the system or user error. The second day, was much better. The lighting in the room made it very cozy, but not very utilitarian. If two people are sitting on the sofa, the one farthest away from the bedside light receives almost no light for reading. Even in the day time, because of the way the curtains were set-up in our room the sofa area had limited light (this could be solved by having the curtains slide and rest on either side of the room instead of just by the sofa, causing most of that side of the sofa to be shaded by curtains). The sleeper sofa was nice to have in the room, though it was upholstered in a wool that is very uncomfortable against the skin. Overall, the room looks great with clean, contemporary furnishings and a nice view of the pool and the river. While the sofa was not extremely comfortable, the bed, which in my mind is the most important and often most deplorable feature in a hotel, was excellent. The pool area was nice and was furnished with wooden, padded chaise chairs. The fitness center was standard with a couple of treadmills, a couple of bikes and a couple of elipticals. There were limited dumbells in the fitness center, but no bench. As someone who generally goes to the gym, I always pay attention to the fitness center. This one was on par with my expectations. I liked the fact that the provided free weights, however, I would have also liked a stand-alone bench that inclined and declined. Overall, the stay was well above-average. If I were to stay in the downtown area again, I might check out other locations, but would not hesitate to return to this hotel. Wonderful hotel. Everyone at the hotel was pleasent and willing to help with all our needs. I was there for two nights July 17-19. I had two rooms with doubles beds. We ere there on vacation and visited Brush Gardens and Adventure Island waterpark. My family of 8(4 adults and 4 children) loved it. The beds were so comfortable we didnt want to get out of bed in the morning. Yes parking was $14 a day but I new about it way in advance and there was no where eles to park anyway. Seeing that it was in downtown Tampa. Restaurant was very expensive. I had to buy breakfast for my Diabete daughter one morning and a bagel and one egg cost $6.00. everything eles went smoothly. Would recommend to anyone. Because hotel in Brush Garden area are in a awful area We stayed here for 2 nights pre-cruise 13/14 April. The hotel was included in the cruise package but when I read the reviews I was tempted to book another hotel at extra cost. I am so glad I didn't. We found the opposite to the negative reviews. Approx 200 people were all on the same package and check-in was fast, efficient and friendly. Our room, 314, balcony with city view was fine. Immaculately clean, usual wonderful Sheraton bed, nice bathroom with new fittings, tea/coffee fixings in the room, free newspaper. No early maid service/unwanted wake-up calls. Very friendly desk staff, nothing was too much trouble and all with a smile. We didn't want to hire a car and made use of the free shuttle offered around town. We asked the valet if he could give us directions to the nearest mall and he actually phoned the bus company for us to get times/directions. We had dinner in the restaurant one night and the food was good and the service friendly. Friends had breakfast and said it was an excellent buffet with made to order egg station. If you are eating in the hotel, go to the home page on-line and print out the 20% restaurant voucher accepted with no problem. We enquired at the front desk about booking a cab to take us to the ship and were told to PLEASE use the free shuttle. We were a bit concerned because of the amount of people that would need to be transported but it was the most orderly evacuation!! They had laid on extra coaches of varying sizes and everyone was treated with courtesy, all at no charge! Sorry this is rather long but knowing how concerned we were, I just wanted to reassure anyne who has booked this hotel that it is fine. Just stayed there this week-end. Was apprehensive due to negative reviews. Must have been in the past as we had no problems. This is NOT a 5 star facility. However, rooms (river side) were spacious. Comfortable king bed, love seat, desk, etc. Oddly very little drawer space. Bathroom fine. Bell and valet staff were excellent. Bar staff was good, restaurant staff ran from good to ok. Newspapers provided 7 days. Nice pool area. Can eat or drink outdoors over looking the river. Ate at the restaurant one night and two breakfasts. Was surprisingly good. In bar, mixed drinks reasonable, by the glass wine a bit pricey (but that seemed true of Tampa). They had a wedding going on each day and took the crowd in stride not affecting other patrons at all. Location is right in downtown, conveniently near the Convention Center and attractions. They offer a free shuttle in a 3 mile radius. Recently rennovated and it shows. I have to admit I was worried. I made my reservations before checking Tripadvisor. And after reading the reviews here, I really had reservations. So I contacted Starwood to ask what was up with this property. They forwarded my concerns to the hotel mgr. He in turn emailed me to explain they had been rehabbing the property but it was finished and the problems they had been having were taken care of. So I showed up and everything was fine. The hotel was nicely decorated. The room was great, good view of the water from the balcony. Great bed. Good sized room. King bed, love seat, desk ,etc. Check in was smooth and everybody was friendly. The bartender (don't remember her name) gave me suggestions and directions to some good local area restaurants. The next morning when I checked out, the valet asked me if I needed directions to anywhere. Bottom line, pleasant hotel, good value. As for the other reviews, I don't get it. It's like they were staying at some alternate universe Sheraton Tampa Riverfront Hotel. It felt like Starwood to me. I named my own price on Priceline for a hotel in Tampa and was a little disappointed that it gave me the Sheraton especially after reading some bad reviews. But I was proven completely wrong! We stayed here for one night before our cruise left the next day and had a very pleasant time. There are not a lot of extras, but overall it is very clean and the service was just fine. They offer a complimentary shuttle within a few miles around the city, which includes to the cruise terminal. Our driver was very friendly and helpful and we had no trouble getting a shuttle almost immediately. I would certainly recommend this hotel! I booked this hotel months in advance because it was the recommended hotel of the Gasparilla Distance Classic. I only checked TA about this hotel after it had been booked. Based on the comments read on TA, I was a little apprehensive about staying at this hotel. I stayed two nights and discovered absolutely no problems. They allowed me to check in early. I got the room I requested thanks to the front desk clerk (Maureen). Room was newly remodeled, clean, and reasonably priced. Furnishings were new, nothing fancy, but certainly worth the price paid. Restaurant meals were very good. Valet parking on site was flawless. So, I was very pleased (and I am very picky). Staff responded to my every request...and I made several requests. I can honestly say that room was clean and all my requests were taken care of and the room was reasonably priced. Having read the reviews posted I was concerned that I had booked four nights at this hotel prior to travelling to Destin to meet friends. However, I am glad I did read them because I was able to weigh them up against what I found there. This hotel is definitely in need of a 'face-lift'. It needs to be completely re-decorated and to be given the 'polish' that other Sheratons have. However, I did not find the hotel dirty and the rooms had everything required for a short stay even if housekeeping occasionally needed to be chased for things e.g robes. The restaurant is good, yes, it is 'pricey' but what hotel restaurant isn't? The swimming pool area is fine and the occasional pelican floats past on the river and the riverwalk near the hotel is very pleasant. This is a downtown hotel so you are not getting the amenities of a more tourist-focused area. The real plus side of this hotel for me were the staff. They were so helpful and friendly and could not do enough to make my stay a good one. The shuttle bus was available for short journeys e.g The Florida Aquarium, Channelside (for lots of restaurants - there is not a lot of choice of places to eat near the hotel unless you want to go to the Hyatt). They arranged a cab for me to get to Busch Gardens and there is a regular shuttle bus on the hour to the airport which is cheaper than a cab. I also used the trolley bus service from Channelside to get to Ybor City and this also runs back very close to the hotel. All the staff in the hotel were always smiling and pleasant. My conclusion is that the Starwood group who run Sheraton are actually doing their staff a great injustice by continuing to hold back on the decoration of this hotel which is the cause of so many complaints and the staff are having to work against this pressure which they personally cannot change. This is certainly no beach holiday hotel and certainly not a hotel for long-stay with or without children but as a jumping off point for a couple of nights it shouldn't be completely written off. I am glad I did not read the reviews here first. I had a wonderfull time at this property. It is an older property that has been kept in good shape. You should request a river view room. They seem to have the most balconies. Great sun and breezes. The city view rooms seem to be sealed boxes w/no balconies. Food was good. Valet was fast and used customer names. Late night front desk person was kindof dry but daily people were helpfull. I would return here again.

There is a hidden cost: sixteen dollars a day for valet parking. The Marriott Residence Inn where I stayed in February, 2008 in downtown Tampa did not charge for parking which was in a gated parking lot across the street from the hotel. The floor reading lamp is missing a light bulb. I called about it, admittedly late (when do you need a light bulb but at night?), but still no bulb. The Marriott had a full kitchen with a range, microwave and refrigerator and a separate sitting area which the Sheraton Riverwalk does not. The ice machine on my floor is not working. The hall carpet is stained and a bit dingey, but the carpet in the room is clean and attractive. I must admit I was spoiled by the Marriott experience and expected at least as much, if not more from Sheraton. Being "Starwood Preffered Guests" this was a disappointment. One elevator working, Stayed on the "Club Level Lounge" But nothing happening all week end in the club part. On Fri and Sat? Are they serious. Construction on the roof....right above our room. Kind of tough for a 3 year old to sleep through that. Nice view, food was okay....not great but okay.....Valet was decent.....but not a place to brag about. The room was in poor shape -- clean, but tiles were coming loose in the bathroom for instance. Nothing like you'd expect in a nice hotel and nothing like value for money. I reserved at the last minute and the front desk was nice and helpful in finding a room for me, but I moved to the Howard Johnson's -- it is a 15 minute walk north and there I got much more value. I have been a long time browser and this is my first review. I actually read the reviews of the Sheraton Riverwalk before my stay and still decided to roll the dice and keep my allegiance to the Starwood brand. I did one night at this hotel and then moved to the Westin up the street for one night because I couldn’t get a room at the Westin for the first night of my trip. Here we go.. The Good: - The staff couldn’t have been nicer and I was very pleasantly surprised after some of these reviews. Everyone I encountered got a thumbs up, from the front desk, to the small lobby store, to the bartender, it was all smiles. - I was worried about the valet messing with my car (a rental) after reading some of the reviews below and having visions of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. I was especially cognizant of this after Hertz upgraded me to a brand new Lincoln Navigator. I noted the mileage each time I came and all was normal. And they were able to have the car ready and waiting with only 4 or 5 mins notice. The Bad: - The elevators were miserable. Upon checking in, I waited for 10 minutes for the front desk to “reset” the elevators before deciding to walk up six flights of stairs w/ luggage. - Despite being on the Club Level, the hallway was dark and drab. My room was fine and clean at first glance. I ended up finding long black hairs (I don’t know how the maids didn’t see them) on of the ‘clean’ towels in the bathroom and one inside the bed sheets. - The AC kept clicking and I had to shut if off and open the windows to sleep. - Room service stops at 11pm which always really bothers me. Especially when they are unapologetic and don’t offer any suggestions about were to get food at quarter past 11. For the record, the lobby bartender who had closed down shop for the night when I arrived was nice enough to hop behind the bar and make me a great martini – but there was no food to be had. - The wireless internet was painfully slow (basically unsuable) and was the only option (no hard wire). I was getting 1 mb/sec during both peak and non peak hours.
Overall, I will not stay there again. The Westin was much better and had very similar rates. Do not use the valet service at this hotel. We did and several hundred dollars later we were sorry we did. Our car was returned to us with several dents and scratches in it that the parking operator refused to take responsibility for. I sent an estimate along with pictures of the damages to 717 parking and received a letter from the management denying the damages were caused by their service. These dents and scratches were not there prior to leaving the car with the valet. The hotel does not offer self parking. Buyer Beware! I stayed here for two nights over a weekend in June with a group of friends. We are all young professionals who travelled to Tampa for a 'guys weekend.' First of all, this is not a good location for those looking for an active weekend. This hotel seems to be in a business district in Tampa (just judging from my experience there) and therefore most of the immediate surrounding area was dead during my stay. On the bright side the hotel shuttle was very willing to haul us all around Tampa (within reason), for no fare, just tips. The only other decent thing about the stay was the pool. The hotel is fair at best and I would really only recommend staying here if you have some business meetings across the street and everything else is booked. The good, the location was right downtown on the river. Air conditioning was very good. The bad, no notice that the club floor room we reserved was not available because of renovation. Only a note on their website that the elevators were being renovated, no mention of the room renovations. The ugly, being awoke very early the next morning to loud rap music playing in the room next door. Some people are so inconsiderate. Obviously, they don't stay in hotels very often. They have no idea of how to act. I booked this hotel for business. I am Starwood Platinum. This was the first time ever that I felt filthy in a room. The staff was great on the line level. The room was old and worn. The linens and towels were greyish in color. The furniture looked like it was out of someone's basement. The carpeting was completely stained. The slider was broken and had drop bolts retro fitted to lock it. The AC did not work properly. The mattress was in great shape. I left a message on the GM's voicemail the morning I checked out with my phone number. I still have not heard from him. I made mention of the experience to the front desk and a gentleman who rode down with me from the same club level was behind me nodding in agreement. Stay away! This property makes a Motel 6 look like a Ritz Carlton. The staff was friendly but I had problems from the start. They first gave me a handicapped room (I am not handicapped). When they gave me a new room, it was a smoking room which I did not want. The bathroom tub had a slow flowing drain which wasn't fixed so I had to take quick showers. You would be better served staying at the Embassy Suites Tampa or the Marriott Waterside. This was a $50/night hotel not a $130/hotel. This newly renovated Sheraton is in a convenient location, and the rooms and public areas are quite nice. Nice bathrooms, spacious rooms, great beds. Internet is too expensive, but that's typical Starwood nickel and diming, which I tolerate because I like the Starwood brand of hotels. I will not, however, be staying here again...this is my second visit here in a year and the problems only get worse. The man at the front desk in the very late evening and early morning is impossibly rude...I've encountered him each time I've stayed here checing in and out, and he's awful. Doesn't say hello, thank you, nothing...and smirks when you make a request. Also seems downright shady...asking me to pay for my parking in cash when I checked out instead of leaving it together on my credit card, because the parking is operated by outside company or something like that. Ridiculous! Parking is another nightmare...the guys with valet were friendly and courteous, but it often took forever to get my car, it was highly disorganized and inconvenient, for a property that could just as easily allow self parking in the garage. (For the record, you HAVE to valet, there is no other choice, despite what some websites say). Again, the rooms are fine, but all else is a bust with this property. Do NOT stay at this hotel (at least for more than one night). It is overpriced, our "non-smoking" room smelled like cigarettes, the paint is peeling off the walls and it is not as nice as the pictures on their website. The General Manager is terrible. They overcharged my card and wouldn't even take off the charge. The charge $14 for valet when that is not clearly advertised at all. Manager wouldn't take that charge off either. Terrible customer service. Bed was not comfortable. Only plus was how close this hotel is to many attractions. Stayed only one night for business. Had problems with check in, which was supposed to be 3:00, but the rooms were not available. They said they upgraded me to a jr. suite and thats why it wasn't available. I said I was ok with a regular room, but they said, no - there's nothing else available, you must take this room. Ok - we left and came back at 5:00. The room still wasn't available. A manager came over and pointed at the screen for the clerk who said, ok, everything is fine - took my information. I asked if it was the jr. suite and she said no. I asked about the earlier information. They didn't know, but there was no jr. suite available. They gave me access to the concierge room to make up for the confusion. Ok. The room was ok, but not as clean as I would expect from a Sheraton. I had to step over the floor going into the bathroom. Looked like mud, or ashes or something dark had been spilled all over the floor and it came up when I wiped it with a tissue. yuk. My coworker's room was so nasty smelling he had to be move. Was labeled a non-smoking room, but had definitely been smoked in and there was other odors - not sure what it was, but not tolerable at all. Even the valet said it was awful. They moved him and gave him a lower rate. The elevators were crazy. I waited for almost 10 minutes to go to the 5th floor. I had all my bags and didn't want to carry them up the stairs so I waited, but that was ridiculous. They have a courtesy shuttle who transported us, but when we asked if they would come back in 15 minutes, they said "no - call the front desk when you're ready." We did and waited another 1/2 hour for a pick up. Overall, not enough problems to change hotels, but I would definitely not pay the rate to bring my family back there or recommend our company use this hotel again. This was so disappointing ... it was our first night of our trip before a six-day cruise. We paid way too much -- $198US. The hallways were drab and dark. The elevator took forever. We were charged for a movie we did not order ... the 'free' shuttle took 40 minutes. We should have just walked!!! The room was OK ... the view was quite nice. Dave - one of the valet guys was the best part of the stay -- he was very accomodating. We would NEVER stay here again. I booked directly online and wasn't told about the mandatory $14-per-day parking fee. At first glance the room was very nice, it had been recently remodeled but they neglected to remodel the bathroom. There was a new vanity and shower curtain but the tile was cracked and dirty. The worst thing was there was no mirror anywhere in the room (except for the bathroom) and there were no electrical outlets to be found! We had several lamps and a coffeemaker but there was nowhere to plug them in unless we unplugged the TV and moved a heavy piece of furniture. What were they thinking? On the upside the location was great, the hotel offered free shuttle service in the downtown area, and the restaurant was better than average, but very pricey. Overall the hotel was much too expensive for a mediocre and strange room and I wouldn't stay there again. The hotel was ok but there were a few problems. First the a/c in the room didn't work great. Second on the last day of our conference, the a/c in the conference room went out completely. The hotel staff didn't do anything to try to make the situation more bearable. No one even came in to apologize for the inconvenience. Third, be prepared to wait in a long line to get your car out of valet. If there are conferences held during your stay, you could be waiting in a line of 50 or so people to get your car. It's very time consuming. Arrived late, traffic, after missing the narrow and hidden turn twice finally arrived. Asked the Bell where to park only valet. The check-in went OK, but the room was not what one may expect. White wood table with T.V on top the only draws cherrywood desk and chair. Bible and directory on shelf in closet the carpet looks like underlament. Had made a special call to Hotel making sure breakfast was included and was assured it was. Bingo on checking out you guess it. $19.30 on the bill for breakfast when I inquired you needed to get it at the club room, on the 6th Fl. before 9am Sir. did you use the parking? yes, $28.00 cash, if possible? The desk clerk asked several people before me for cash for parking use a @14.00per day. Location good but everything else so, so. Starwood needs to work on this place. While the room was quite nice (good work area, free wireless internet, balcony overlooking the river, nice closet and bathroom), the staff at the front desk were not helpful. We arrived early and were told rooms would not be ready until check-in at 3pm (not a problem). After waiting in the lobby until 3pm, we re-approached the front desk and were told that the rooms were not ready. The attending staff was not able to provide any estimate whatsoever as to the time at which the room would be available (not "15 minutes" vs. "3 hours") and blamed an electronic updating system for room cleaning status. We noticed a number of fellow guests having heated conversations with front desk staff during our three day stay and would not recommend the facility until management makes staffing changes. Front desk staff "got rid" of guests with requests by telling them they would get back to them "later" (for us, this was never). The staff on duty in the Club Suite room were very attentive and helpful. The room itself and hotel amenities were to our liking. One elevator did not work reliably (stopped on random floors, etc.). This hotel was not great. The rooms were nice but the service was not very good at all for the price. The staff were not real friendly and the wait service in the bar was very slow. The wait to get a drink was terrible and one afternoon the bar was empty and I sat there for 10 minutes before the manager came in and said someone would be right with me. Another 5 minutes went by and I got up and walked out. I just wanted a beer! It is not close to anything downtown, no shops, bars or restaurants within 3 blocks. The valet service was also slow and they expected a tip to get your car and when you return. I was reluctant to tip them because it took so long to get your car! They also do not go out of their way to help you get a taxi. One more complaint, my room key kept getting decoded because they said my cell phone was too close to it??! I have never heard of that and I had to get the key re set 4 or 5 times and of course I had to wait 5-10 minutes each time. It was a pain. Overall, the room was nice and comfortable but the service was terrible and I would not stay there again. Other than the fact that it is a "downtown" hotel, it has some things going in its favor. My room overlooked the river, so there was boating traffic, rowers, etc. to make it entertaining. The balcony, much like you would find on a condo, was an added attraction. However, it IS a downtown hotel. I checked into my room around 3:3O PM on an unusually warm March day. Temps were in the low 80s. When I got into the room I knew immediately that the AC was not right. With two calls to the front desk, I finally got a repair person to come up. He replaced a valve or something and said that is all he could do. The AC units are inadequate for the rooms. At this writing I have had the thermostat set at 66 degrees for about six hours and the temp is down to 71 degrees. It's night time too, so that may have worked better than the AC unit. I found a broken lamp light bulb...still in the lamp, a "fresh" drinking glass with a broken area on the rim, and something black and sticky was on the bathroom floor. The maid came up and "cleaned" it somewhat, saying she would come back later and clean it more, but that didn't happen. I stay in many hotels so I think I know what a comfort level is in a guest room, and I'm still waiting. My room faces west, so if you want to stay cool, get one facing the east or find another hotel. Call ahead to see if this has been resolved. As regular readers of tripadvisor know I travel all over the USA and try to give fair reviews of hotels from across the spectrum. Plus I rate a hotel within its class based on price NOT on the tripadvisor star rating. Lets face it most bang for the buck is what we are after. That Said, It is hard for me to rate this hotel higher than Two. The price was very high $278.00 per night. They do not have late checkout but they ultimately did not charge me for the extra day even though they said they would. They have an executive lounge morning and night with great items like coffee, tea, milk and sodas all including in the price. The rooms in this place are tiny and I mean tiny. I had to walk sideways to get in the bathroom and if the bathroom door was open you could not get in the closet. The beds were very comfortable room service was great and it is an easy walk downtown. For the price this place is not worth it. Stay in a nicer place for the money . I couldn't tell if I was at a hotel or a frat party. Despite decent accommodations and convenience to business areas in Tampa, it was not worth the loss of sleep I incurred from my different neighbors each night. One Friday night the hotel had some sort of party in their little ballroom area downstairs until 12 a.m. and the music and deep bass could be heard clearly in our room. My different neighbors each night seemed to wake me up around 1 a.m. talking loudly, coming in and out of their rooms and people from other rooms banging on the door to come in. Despite securities efforts after I'd finally call and complain they couldn't seem to get it under control. Some would just move down to the pool and party down there - which could also be heard clearly in our room. Don't stay in this hotel if you plan on getting to sleep and staying asleep before 2 a.m. They're also going through renovations right now (04/20/08) - and they'll be doing construction on-site during the week from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. It's also valet parking only. the hotel is under new management according to several conversations with management about the unsanitary conditions. I wished him luck with the changes because this is a challange. Upon arrival the registration person handled my inquiry about complimentary breakfast in a negative manner. When we arrived at the room the keys did not work (other people had this problem too) the engineer arrived in a bit and was cheerful. He opened the door with his master and came backlater with new keys. The room was not really clean. the glass top tables had been wiped with something that left a thick smudged film. The doors to the balcony were thick with dust and smudges. The coffee table was worn in many places and had at least one sharp strip sticking out. The dish in the bathroom holding the amenities was dusty. The lamps were dusty. In fact you could write your name on the dust on the elevator doors. The trash container by the elevator was filthy. The carpet on the way to the room was littered with small pieces of paper , spills and debris.I was mad and literalyI walked through all of this with the assistant manager once and told him of the lack of changes a day and a half later(we stayed two nights) I would have changed hotels but there were no available rooms nearby and we were there on business. I ate no meals there. At my last mtg with management I expressed my outrage at being charged high rates for a very sub standard product. He took one night off the bill. it was a professional response but does not negate the fact that the hotel is dirty. I was aware they were in the process of remodeling but this should not prevent them from providing a clean, sanitary hotel for their guests. I posted a review, but mysterious it has disappeared. To make a long story short - the valet service took our car in the night and when we left it had been vomited in, empty beer bottle in front seat and the front bumper had dents in it. The management said they would comp our room and then denied ever taking the car out. We ended up with being charged for two nights - only stayed one - and no comp or acknowledgment of wrong doings. We are now in the process of trying to get the charges corrected, but as of now, no willingness to correct. Like many other reviewers here, I booked this hotel assuming that since it was a Sheraton that it would be a decent hotel. We travelled here from Canada and stayed in Orlando for our first week. Arrived here on a Saturday night and there was a wedding taking place. Very noisy guests. Our room key cards didn't work, so we had to DRAG all of our bags back down to the front desk to get them fixed. Spent the first night BOILING hot as the air conditioning didn't work in our room and the noise from the corridor and surrounding rooms is ridiculous (can hear people in the next bathroom talking). This hotel cost $199 a night, and it is more like what you would expect from a $40 - $50 a night motel. Sofas in the lobby are worn and dated, bathtub in our room has a BLACK RING all the way around it. Elevators take FOREVER to arrive as they only have 2 for the entire hotel. Restaurant food is acceptable but again very overpriced for what you get. I have stayed at quite a few Sheratons and am usually very pleased. This place is more like a HoJo for 4X the price. Do not stay here!! We stayed here 1 night March 31 the night before our cruise. It was in a location very convenient to the port, but that was the only redeeming quality. I used Starwood Points, and we were given an upgraded room on the Starwood Preferred floor. The entrance and lobby was nice enough, but the floor we were on was seriously in need of updating. I travel frequently for work and can look past many things, but I would not set foot on the carpet in my bare feet - there was also mold in the bathroom shower - not what you would expect from Sheraton. Room service (coffee in the morning) was fine, but in moving a few things around to make room for the tray we awakened a cockroach. Needless to say, we could not wait to get out, and checked out earlier than expected. The staff were friendly and the front desk manager offered to buy us breakfast, but we declined. We actually wound up having breakfast at the Westin Harbor Island, which looked a lot nicer, at least from the public areas. If you're planning to visit Tampa's downtown area, look elsewhere! This weekend was a tragedy. After an exhausting week due to my dad's funeral, I wanted to go away and not think about anything. We checked in friday night around 9pm. I asked the front desk clerk, her name was Stephanie, about possibly getting a room with a queen bed instead of the double beds we were assigned, she said that the hotel does not have Queen beds, but King or double beds.Without looking in the computer or any reference about the room availability she quickly told us that there were none available. Fine. Whatever. We needed to get some sleep. I am not even going to tell you how hideous the hotel looked, i have seen better even at other lower end hotels. We settled into the room and went to sleep. Around 2AM we were disturbed by people yelling, running in the hall and loud slamming doors. Then someone either fell against our door or was attempting to open it. We called front desk immediately telling them about the noise. It wasn't until the 3rd time we called that security was sent up to our floor. The security guy knocked on the door next to us and told the people something. After that the noise persisted. We called front desk and demanded to be moved to another room. We waited for 30 minutes and then we went down to lobby to ask about when they were planning to move us. It was ridiculous that we had to go downstairs to key the other room key. The manager , his name was Bryan, asked us what the problem was. We told them it started with the noise. He inarticulately told us that the hotel is in a location were there is alot of traffic because it is located downtown and that there were different events happening and that he needs to accomodate all of them. So i asked him, " I just came from a funeral,is that a good enough event for you?" He did not have much to say after that. The second room that they placed us in had a faulty air conditioning vent that was flapping with noise as the air conditioner was on. The third room smelled like cigarettes and the fourth room had an odor so foul that you can smell it as the doorway. I told Stephanie to smell the room and she deny that it smelled. So at that moment it was nearing almost 4AM. I told Stephanie that I really need to get some rest, I just went through a whole week without any proper rest because of my dad's funeral. She then with an attitude acted like it was such a burden told us that she will get us another room and asked if a king size bed would be ok. What? I thought she told me that there were none when we checked in?? So she put us up on the top floor where it was suppose to the executive suite. The room was mediocre and was not so different from the other rooms, except it had the river view. After all that fuss I really could care less what the view was. This is the kind of hotel that makes you want to go home. Stay anywhere else but here! I checked in on February 24th for a one night stay, and had to immediately change rooms twice. The first room was right next to the elevator, and the second room was directly across from the loudest ice machine ever created. Note that I am a Starwood Platinum preferred guest, which means I am "supposed" to get the nicest room available in the hotel, but each room I was moved to was bigger and nicer than the previous one. I was so late for dinner by the time I was moved for the second time that I didn't have time to explore the 3rd room. When I finally got back there late Saturday evening, I realized that the air conditioning was not working well. Not wanting to move again, I didn't bother to call about that, since it was a relatively cool evening. I tried to go to sleep, but the walls were so thin that I could hear a cell phone message waiting beep every five minutes from the room next door, and it was so loud that it sounded like it was right under my pillow. I called to complain, not expecting that they could do anything about it, but actually they did go in to the person's room and move their cell phone away from mine and that did solve the problem. Although this was the best possible outcome for me, I wouldn't be happy if I were the guest next door...and judging from their yelling at 2am, they weren't. To top things off, there was no hot water in the morning, and housekeeping knocked on my door while the do not disturb sign was on. She claimed to not know I had late checkout, but I doubt she checked. I booked this hotel through Orbitz for a business trip and was charged the full room amount ($170) on booking. on checking into the hotel, they took my credit card number. later after i left the hotel, and checked my credit card bill, they had charged me an extra 130$ for the room! I have been trying to call them and contact them but to no avail- they keep sending you to "accounting" where the person is constantly "out of the office" and asks you to leave a number to call back (and of course they have never called back as yet). It seems to be becoming clear that this is a fraudulent set-up. Besides, the hotel services are quite disappointing, considering its three-star rating- long queues all the time at the reception desk, cleaning staff that bang on the door early in the morning, and wake-up calls that you didn't ask for at 6 AM. NEVER in my life am I going back there! I was in town for a convention and stayed at this hotel. On the second day housekeeping wanted to clean my room at 5:30 PM. On the second day, I called and said I would be gone from 10:00-3:00. I came back to an unclean room. I eventually put my wastebaskets in the hallway. The bar (by the pool in a hotel in Florida) had no blender. The service at the restaurant was awful. I would have made a formal complaint but the line to talk to the manager was too long. Stayed at the Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk from 3/15/06 thru 3/19/06 for a TESOL Conference. Location was good. Rooms were dirty and dingy. Hallway carpets were filthy and there was a terrible odor in hallway. Pool was small. No cleanup around pool area. Ashley grill way overpriced and the food was not good at all. Service was just as bad. Front desk not very accomodating. Took a walk to the Mariott. Beautiful hotel in same area. Would suggest staying there.
