This was the best place we have stayed in fort stockton. wine, soft drinks, cheese, tamale's in the evening. Breakfast not normal continental, many things to pick from. The room was very clean & refreshing, would highly recommend. This hotel is very nice. We were pleased to see the clean room after a long day of travel. Easy to find right off the freeway, close to places to grab a quick bite to eat. Would stay here again. This place was OKAY for the price. For paying that much money in a small town, I would think it would be a terrific stay, but it was just O.K. I would have been happier staying at the local MOTEL 6 and saving some money. We did like the fact that it was REALLY close to the local IHOP for breakfast. I guess we will stay here again, as my wife seems to think that MORE expensive a hotel is, means that the hotel is BETTER and nicer ? Loved the facility, great value for the room which was large and CLEAN and well equipped. Breakfast bar was impressive too. Nice pool, weight room. Unfortunately, the outgoing internet connection was too slow to work interactively on a VPN connection and I had to leave early when I wanted to stay and get some work done. I will not be able to stay here next time unless it's purely a vacation trip. Otherwise I was very pleased with the whole place. Other than the excitement of an East Texas lightning storm there were no surprises here. Which is why you stay at a Holiday Inn. Everything worked, the room was clean, the service was fine and the free breakfast was free! Myself and 3 kids styaed here on Feb. 4, 2007. We were on a long road trip and just drove up to the hotel without a reservation. Rooms were on the small side, but very clean and quiet. Great breakfast! Would stay here again. Great place for a quick overnight stay. I really don't agree with some of the more negative reviews - we were on a driving trip around Texas and saw Fort Stockton as somewhere to stop off en-route. The daily (?) meet-the-manager evening was a nice touch, with free local wine - it also gave us the chance to pick up travel tips from fellow travellers. Although on the interstate we didn't hear the traffic at all. The room was spacious and really comfortable, and the jacuzzi was hot (given the time of year!) and clean. The breakfast was the standard Holiday Inn fare, but hit the spot. The internet access in the lobby was helpful to check e-mail and plan the next few days of our trip. We enjoyed it so much we came back after a couple of days in Big Bend National Park. We had a very different experience than some of the previous reviewers. Our room was really a studio suite with king bed, nice sofa, Microwave/Fridge. Very nicely furnished. Room was quiet. Breakfast buffet was more than adequate. Staff was very friendly. Would readily stay there again. This was a surprisingly nice place. The front desk people were friendly and efficient. The room was large and the furnishings were actually quite nice. The location is right off the interstate but it is not noisey and there is not much traffic on the road it's on. There are a couple of fast food places and a convenience store within walking distance. The contintental breakfast is way above average for this type of property.

After we checked in, we went to our room. As soon as we opened the door there were seriously about 40 flys in our room. It seemed like an infestation of flys. I went to the front desk and told them about my fly problem. They then offered me the room right next door to the fly room. I went in that room and it was also filled with flys. It was so gross. You just sat on the bed and they were landing on you - there's no way I could sleep with flys landing on my face! I asked if there was any other room and she said no because we were traveling with a cat. The only rooms available for people were pets were the two fly rooms. I told her I wanted to cancel my reservation and go to a different hotel. All of a sudden, she said there was another room available! I reminded her of my cat and she said that it was no problem. Interesting how she became so accomodating once I threatened to cancel my reservation. In the end, my third room was nice and didn't have any flys. I would not stay there again though. This is now the Quality Inn. I was disappointed in quality for the price they charged. The bed was very comfortable, but the room needed maintenance. The bathroom sink stopper was broken and worse there were roaches in the sink when we checked in & also the following morning. I reported both, 3 times but completely got ignored. The room wasn't completely dirty, but it could have been cleaner. This Express is not quite up to the standards as other Expresses I've stayed at. Most Expresses appear to have been built recently and are generally very nice hotels. This one appears to have been a renovation of some other hotel. The bathroom needed some serious work as it appeared it had sustained some water damage. Some effort had gone into fixing it as noted by the drywall ceiling above the tub and some rather sloppy caulking work along the tub. I mean really, if you're not done with repairs, don't rent it out!! If it was completed, stay away!! Who knows for sure. I've stayed at several Expresses over the years and I like them, but I will not return to this one. After driving ALL DAY AND MUCH OF THE NIGHT from New Orleans (had no idea it would be so desolate out there in Texas) finally made it to Ft. Stockton, knowing I could rely on old reliable Holiday Inn Express to be as clean, tidy, welcoming and comfortable as I'd always known it to be . . . but NOT THIS ONE. It was okay, don't get me wrong, but that's it . . . just OKAY. The room was somewhat shabby, in the sense that the fabrics and furnishings looked pretty worn. The bathroom had that feel of 'wiped down' but not disinfected, ya know? There were the telltale hairs here and there about the tub and floor, to be blunt. The complimentary breakfast was 'back to basic' early Holiday Inn Express, not the embellished version I've seen over the past 10 years or so in most locations. *sigh* Guess I'll just have to fly next time . . . I didn't think this Holiday Inn Express was up to the chain's usual standards. Bottom of tub was dark gray, and walls of tub enclosure had mildew on them. Rest of room was OK, a little shabby around the edges, but reasonably clean and comfortable.
