My partner and I went to Bremen from Edinburgh for two days using the new Ryanair service. We flew out on a Monday and returned on the Wednesday. Neither of us had been to this part of Germany before and we knew little about this old hanseatic port. The Market Square and the Schnoor were very special. These, and the other parts of the medieval city that survived Bomber Harris’s attention in World War II were picturesque, and we wondered what the city looked like in 1939. We had discovered our hotel, the Bremer Haus, on a web site and checked the reviews on Tripadvisor for it. It sounded promising, especially the price compared with other hotels near the station. The hotel is only 5 minutes walk from the train/bus station. Once we found the An der Weide, the hotel was easy to locate, being about 500 m from the station. The hotel reception area was being redecorated during our stay but it caused no inconvenience to us. The reception staff was very friendly and efficient and there was always someone on duty that spoke English. We were staying for two nights and we had rooms on the second floor. My partner smokes so we had a smoking room. The corridor was nicely decorated with new carpeting and modern lighting. The room was pleasant with a good view over the street. The décor was fresh. The en suite bathroom was standard although my partner liked the waffle towels. The TV channels in the rooms were in German apart from CNN news in English. The mini-bar was well stocked and reasonably priced. During the night, we left the window open. There was some street noise in the morning from about 6.00 onwards. This is not surprising as the An der Weide is a main street with cobbles and trams. As anyone from Edinburgh knows, traffic running over cobbles is louder that on tarmacadam. However the noise did not bother either of us sufficiently to get up to close the window! Breakfast was in the continental style with a wide range of items. There were four different yoghurts, two types of boiled egg, 5 and 10 minutes, various cold meats and cheeses and on the hotplate, Spanish Omelette, scrambled eggs and bacon. There were about ten types of teabag, four jams & marmalades, honey and other sticky stuff with several types of bread available. The breakfast rooms were well staffed. There were three waitresses on duty each day. There were two rooms, one for non-smokers and one for the polluting pariahs. We ate in the latter and were well pleased with the décor and the furniture but especially the ashtrays (or so the boss told me!). After breakfast, we left the hotel for the day. On our return we discovered that we had been transferred to an adjacent room as a problem had been discovered with the room window. This second room was much nicer than the first and the move demonstrated to us the standards of this hotel. Elsewhere, we have stayed in rooms with problems that were ignored. On our evenings we ate dinner in a local Indian restaurant on the An der Weide, called the Shanti. This is just around the corner from the hotel. We really liked the food here and we have placed a review of it on Tripadvisor. Our overall impressions of Bremen and the hotel are excellent. Bremen is a clean, prosperous city with a good variety of shops, cafes and quality street food vendors. We could not decide which of the many good beers was our favourite. So we have to return to taste them again. Where shall we stay when we go back? Have a guess! I happened upon the Bremer Haus in July of 1999, walking out of the railway station in late afternoon, in search of a meal and bed for one night. I remember it as one of the pleasantest, in both categories, of many many nights I have spent away from home. It is quiet and unassuming and was the perfect place in the simplicity, aesthetics and efficiency of the room and the excellence of the meal. If I was in the region again I would go out of my way to spend another night there. hi i went to bremen for a holiday with two friends we flew with ryanair we were there a week.this hotel had good reviews and was central thats why we chose it.its easy to get to from the airport and its a five minute walk to the city centre and two minutes to the main rail station.there are two large taxi ranks within 500 metres.this hotel has small but very clean modern rooms the reception is efficient the staff very pleasant indeed.the dining room was only serving breakfast when we were there but some modernisation is taking place so perhaps there are plans for a restaurant.the breakfast was a very pleasant experience too.i would recommend this hotel for a short stay but if you are to be there more than a week you may require other facilities such as a swimming pool gymnasium restaurant in the evening and a bar this hotel has none of those. Perfect for a weekend, close to the main train station and city center, clean, recently restored, good service, good breakfast, excellent quality/price ratio I stayed in the hotel this month. For 208 euros for 3 nights it was excellent. The staff were friendly. The breakfast was delicious and would keep you going for the day and the room was well laid out. Only downside is that you could hear outside quite easy on the floors outside. This may have been because a World Dance competition was on and children were running around and I was tired! However all in all it was a nice enjoyable stay and I well recommend this hotel to anyone who stays in Bremen. We stayed one night in the hotel during a vacation. We drove into the city in the late afternoon on Sunday and chose the hotel from a listing in the Michelin Red Guide. The hotel is listed as one of the less expensive choices, but my experience with hotels of this class has always been satisfactory. The hotel is located just down the street from the main train station, which is a short walk from the old town center. Loening Strasse is a small side road off An der Wiede, so there is no though traffic on the street. It is very close to Hochstrasse Remberting, so we could hear some street noise from our room (116). There is also a tram line on An der Wide, and I could hear the trams when they passed. Overall, it's like any urban noise and not unusual. The hotel has a parking lot in the back of the hotel, so parking is not a problem. A parking garage is available, but it appears that only a few spots are available to the hotel. Internet access (wireless) is free for guests, and the hotel notes that it may be accessible from the guest rooms on the first floor (the European first floor, which Americans call the second floor), although it was not useable from my room, which is at the end of the building. Access was possible in the hotel lobby. The desk clerks were friendly and helpful. I believe that all of them spoke English. I speak German so I have no problems, but I heard several English-speaking guests speaking with the staff. At least basic English is possible. The hotel is an older building, and it appears to actually be three joined buildings, so there are some odd breaks on each floor with a step of two. There is an elevator. Overall it looks clean, and basic maintenance has been done. Our room was a decent size and had two side chairs and a desk area. A mini fridge has items for sale, and there is a little extra room to keep something for yourself. My room rate for a double room was 74 Euros, which I believe was a good value given the central downtown location. I would stay here again. (CS) No problems with this place. A spacious, clean and comfortable double room cost €72 including breakfast. Staff very helpful, breakfast great, location less than 5 minutes from the railway station and less than 10 minutes to the centre of town. However lovely and quiet as its on a side street. Very minor point is that the stairway / landing areas are a little shabby but this should not detract at all. This was a central, cheap, and nice hotel with a very good breakfastbuffet. BUT, the room we had was poorly sound isolated. We could hear all the people walking i the hallway as loud as they were in the room. And we checked, and could hear people talking in the other rooms when we were in the hallway. I don't know if that only was the case in our floor (4th I think)... BUT luckily we wasn't on the hotel for more than to sleep, and for that the rooms were ok. Otherwise the hotel was quiet, not to crowded, and away from the traffic. | ||||
