5 of 5  Enjoy the relax and elegance, A TripAdvisor Member, BCN, July 7, 2008

Incredible new Schlosshotel im Grunewald. The second time I went to Berlin I decided stay again in the Schlosshotel. It was incredible the renovations and new style I saw there . Our room has news lignts , new tvs, news radios " tivolis" new colours in the walls, new curtains . It was fantastic to be a guest in the Schloss. The Libray it was the best place to relax ,reading spanish, german and catalan literature.... The picnic in the garden was the most suitable and diferent one I never have seen. The mediterranean buffet with the excellent products allow you to taste the best food in Berlin. We decided to take the bicycles and when through the maravellous lake near the hotel.I am sure our stay in this hotel it will be very different that you have never seen before.

5 of 5  The best hotel to stay in Berlín, A TripAdvisor Member, Barcelona, May 21, 2008

It's not the tipical urban hotel, and I new it, but it isn't so far from the center, just 6 min by car (and they offer you the best limo service I've ever seen.). Big and comfortable rooms, all spaces inside the hotel are suitable to stay.

5 of 5  Peaceful seclusion - for gastronomics with deep pockets !!, A TripAdvisor Member, London, May 8, 2007

Stayed here for two weekend nights at the beginning of May 2007.

It's about an hour on the metro from Schoenfeld Airport, changing once at the Westkreuz metro station and waiting on the platform for the corresponding train to arrive.

The hotel is located in the peaceful and upmarket residential area of Grunewald, and is about a 10-15 minute walk from Grunewald metro station or 5 minutes on the bus which departs from the metro station every 20 minutes or so.

As we were only travelling with hand luggage (it was a weekender) we opted to wander through the leafy suburban lanes to the hotel. This walk from Grunewald Metro station is on the flat wide pavements, and we admired an array of parked up Porsches behind which stood some architecturally interesting private houses. After the short walk from the metro you turn right into a quiet street and halfway down you find the impressive Schlosshotel waiting for you.

After entering the gated courtyard and walking up the steps into the hotel you wander through the spacious marbled lobby area which leads into the great hall. Check-in just off the lobby is discrete, professional and the staff attitude perfect.

The "grandeur" of the great hall certainly doesn't disappoint - and comes complete with imposing staircase, large chandeliers, classical piano and a huge presentation of freshly arranged flowers which filled the room with a fantastic scented aroma.

There are plenty of large comfortable sofas and chairs here in which to sip a cool drink, relax and soak up the rich atmosphere. Just off the hall is the Vivaldi restaurant, a beautifully decorated dining room whose decoration mirrors the decadent richness of the hall.

The hall also leads out to the patio area, which was a sun trap when we visited and took our "welcome" drink - nice touch!! Staying on the patio to take an alfresco lunch all washed down with some chilled Sancerre, you really begin to feel you are somewhere "special" as the tranqulity and ambience take effect. The lunchtime menu choice was extensive, the beef stroganoff of particular note and the overall quality of all the fare was top notch.

The "specialness" vibe continued upstairs where our accomodation was a "Grand Deluxe" room on the third floor, which consisted of an intimate attic styled boudoir. The bed was huge, a bit soft but very comfortable nonetheless The room had a separate walk-in bathroom - marble everywhere !! With a large bath and separate shower. There was a moderate sized wardrobe and hanging space for suits / dresses.

My only criticism of the room was that despite the warm temperature outside, inside it was stuffy and the aircon was pretty ineffectual - so we kept the windows open for the duration of our stay.

The hotel has a moderate sized indoor pool and spa area which consists of a small gym area with some weights, a couple of jogging machines and a couple of separate treatment rooms for massages. The sauna and steam room themselves were good but quite small - but we had the place to ourselves mid afternoons when we visited, although I could imagine things getting quite cosy if 5 or 6 couples were using the facilities all at once !!

So overall, The Schlosshotel is deserving of praise and is a really great little country house style hotel. It's location is quite out of the way if you want to have sightseeing on your doorstep (taxi to Brandenbug Gate about €20) but if you crave privacy and just want to get away from it all then this is the place for you.

The only criticism on this otherwise fantastic establishment was the lack of ingenuity with the menu at dinner. Whilst the food was splendid, there just wasn't enough options to choose at dinner time. The lunch menu was varied and good but in the evening it disappeared and the restaurant could only offer a set 4, 5 or 6 course tasting menu starting at €79 for 4 courses without wine - no Ala Carte option. And a minimum tab of €180 for two without vin seemed overpriced compared to lunch...

This was such a shame really - but all was not lost :

My top tip if you're staying here and fancy a wander out in the evening is to visit a superb Italian restaurant about 5 mins walk from the hotel on the way to the Grunewald metro station.

We dined in the very pleasant restaurant garden, rubbing shoulders with the well heeled locals, and we consumed three delicious courses and drank very well for about €90 all in - including vin and bier !! Its location is on the corner where the Menzelstrasse and Hagenstrasse meet.

So overall, Schlosshotel Grunewald is great if you want to get away from it all and just chill in a wonderful green tree lined suburb, but ISNT a city centre hotel with sights on it's doorstep.

- Which is why we chose it !! Go there and put your feet up !!!

5 of 5  quiet gem in a residential area, A TripAdvisor Member, London, January 3, 2007

If you would like to have all the major tourist attractions in walking distance or a quick cab ride away, then you are better off staying at the Hyatt or somewhere more central. But if you are looking to de-stress, the Schlosshotel is perfect! It is tucked into Berlin's quiet and elegant Grunewald/Dahlem residential area. In busy traffic it has taken us up to an hour by cab to get to the Brandenburg gate or Potsdamer Platz and even the Kurfuerstendamm can be a 10-minute drive. That said, we have stayed at the Schlosshotel a few times and will return. You get great value for your money. Each room is individually designed with charming, classical decor. I wouldn't stress too much who the designer is, because if I had known before visiting it could have easily turned me off. But it's actually very tastefully done. In spite of all the curtains and carpets it still feels light and playful. The atmosphere is that of a residence more than that of a hotel.

The breakfast buffet is splendid! and the staff is attentive and polite. I have seen someone from the front desk sprint down the block after a guest who had left a glove. In the summer your breakfast on the terrace or in the beautiful garden will easily turn into brunch and then lunch...

The pool is not deep but it's warm and nice to lounge around, get a massage, and relax. You might be the only in one there all day.

5 of 5  Almost perfect, A TripAdvisor Member, Zurich, November 22, 2006

We spent a weekend here and really enjoyed the experience. The room was stylish, the staff friendly and helpful and the food fantastic. Breakfasts were amongst the best we have had.

The short trip from the centre of Berlin is worth it to get to an elegant building in a noise free environment.

I could not relate to the comments about smoking; we hate smoke as well but did not encounter this problem the whole weekend

5 of 5  The Hidden Gem in Berlin, A TripAdvisor Member, Pitton, Salisbury, England, October 1, 2006

A late booking that turned into a wonderful experience after searching Europe for a 5 star break with Spa. A hotel of the highest quality. Attentive staff who made us feel King and Queen of the Castle throughout our stay. Every need given the utmost attention without being intrusive. One the the nicest Spa's we have experienced (absolutely spotlessy clean with all you could need) - perfect attention to detail - again staff looked after our ever need before we had the opportunity to know we needed it. Resturant absloutely fantastic and a "must do" if you choose this hotel. Travel was easy using local transportation - so its worth the 10 minute journey outside the centre of the City. When we had the opportunity to see other Hotels at the same level in Berlin it was easy to see we had made the right choice. Would not consider staying anywhere else if we revisited Berlin or this area. If you fly through Templehof use a Taxi at around 20 Euro - otherwise you will find it hard to find the hotel. Althought only 10 minutes walk from Grunwald S Bahn (plus a short bus ride), its not easy after a flight. Once you know the transportation system S and U Bahn and bus are great to get around the city.

5 of 5  Stylish Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Ware, August 29, 2006

My wife and I just got back from a great weekend break in Berlin staying at this classy hotel. When you walk into the hotel you immediately realise that you are staying somewhere special. There is a sense of history that permeates throughout the hotel, from the baronial lobby to the fantastic bar that feels like an exclusive gentlemen’s’ club. We were fortunate to be upgraded to a suite, which was stunning and very tastefully designed, as you would expect from Karl Lagerfeld. We loved the antique wardrobe, the Hermes toiletries and the very comfortable bed. All the staff were very friendly and tried very hard to make our stay very pleasurable, although, sometimes you were kept waiting for service a little longer that you would expect at a 5 star hotel.

Our main criticism would be with the food at their Vivaldi restaurant. The quality of the ingredients and the preparation were first class but the combination of flavours was far too complex. Possibly because we are used to London restaurants were the favours are much simpler and allow the ingredients to speak for themselves we found the combination at the restaurant a bit strange and not to our palate.

Before you book this hotel bear in mind that you will need a taxi to get to the centre, e.g. Brandenburg Gate was 16 Euros. But every taxi driver knew where the hotel was for the return trip and were pleased to take us back to the hotel where the German Football Team stayed during the World Cup.

On reflection it was a wonderful hotel and we will definitely stay there again on our next trip to Berlin.

5 of 5  Best hotel in Berlin, A TripAdvisor Member, Berlin, Germany, May 2, 2006

THIS IS THE BEST HOTEL IN BERLIN!

After weeks of hard work we booked in here as a treat.

quite expensive i have to admit, but it was wearth every

single euro.

the staff is extremely friendly and is treating you like the

most important peson they have ever met.you could say:

i expect that for nearly 400Euros anyway, but let me asure

you that you could get dissapointed in berlin within that

prizerange at other hotels.

the decoration,coulors,interior design,the lobby,the rooms

eveything very classy and personal.never tacky.its

like being at a (very rich) friends house.you can sit in the

bar/lobby looking around for 2 hours without

getting bored(ceiling paintings,sculptures,antiques).

The restaurant: just thinking back ...i could cry of joy.

its the best food i ever had.

a lot of restaurant guides(even the french ones)

agree.the best wine ever(be carefull here the prizes

are litarely witout any limits),but even that we were able

to discuss with the most charming sommelier i have ever

met.he was able to tell basicaly fairytales and legends

about every single sip of wine.

this experience is in my head.locked in.forever.

5 of 5  Just the way we want it ..., A TripAdvisor Member, Brussels, Belgium, December 29, 2005

We booked a special stay at an interesting price trough the website of the hotel itself. From the moment we arrived we felt very welcome. This is a small hotel so service is very personal, which we appreciated. Beautiful & romantic rooms. Nice bathrooms. Great swimming pool & sauna. Fantastic breakfast. Our special package included a dinner in the hotel restaurant and this was also excellent. Located in the high-class diplomatic area of Berlin, away from the noise of the city. We came to Berlin by car and we didn't have any problem to get to the city center (max. 20 min) so I guess it's also easy by taxi. Great historic building !

Ideal for a relaxed stay in style, away from the noise but close to the city.

5 of 5  Wellness, shopping and gourmetdinner, A TripAdvisor Member, denmark, November 28, 2005

Excellent, peacefull and very elegant hotel. The staff is young but very professional and attentative. The wellness area is kept in a immaculate state- a drop of water on the floor is wiped clean at once. The restaurant and bar is cosy, elegant and decorated with great care of detail. The breakfastroom is delightfull. We had full value for our money.

5 of 5  Quiet Location, Faultess Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, London, June 8, 2005

Okay, so it's a cab ride in to the City Centre (approx €15), but that distance is a large part of this hotel's attraction. The service from the moment we arrived was friendly, attentive, and efficient. The room was beautifully furnished with amazing attention to detail. The public areas are opulent yet cosy and the gardens and terrace bar are a welcome oasis. If you can cope with the distance from the city centre, then this hotel represents a peaceful and private alternative to similarly priced city hotels.

4 of 5  Wonderful Staff!, A TripAdvisor Member, Los Angeles, November 16, 2006

Stayed for a mix of pleasure and business. I know that it seems to be out of the way, but a 10 - 15 euro cab ride gets you just about anywhere in the city. If you don't mind walking a bit there are a few dining options in the area other than the hotel. Mainly for locals which make them a great choice. Not all these restaurants have menus in english and some staff do not speak perfect english, but that is the adventure of traveling. However, almost all staff at these restaurants were very friendly. A quick cab ride (which were always quickly available by calling the front desk to send one to the hotel and would be at the door within minutes) and for 8 euro you could be walking along the Ku-Damm with many dining and shopping choices. I only spend this much time on how close things are because of the location of the hotel is in a residential area and for many pleasure travelers that would seem to make things difficult. Now for the hotel experience. The best part of the hotel is the staff. Benjiman in the hotels beautiful bar absolutely made our hotel stay memorable. After a full day of sightseeing or a long day of business, just walking into the bar he made us feel like royalty. very gracious and fun at the same time. Is the service and little touches the same as a Four Seasons/Ritz/Peninsula? No. But the charm of this hotel is well worth overlooking some of the imperfections. I will agree with another reviewer that the DVD player should play all regions of DVD's. As many an international traveler knows, CNN News and BBC news gets rather tiresome after one day. We brought DVD's to watch at night before bed and luckily had a laptop to watch them on, but an all region player would be a nice and cheap addition to this small hotel (Maybe a small selection of movies in various languages avail. at the front desk). I know this hotel mainly serves German speaking travelers, but I think anyone would enjoy staying at this hotel. The indoor pool area and jacuzzi/spa was relaxing and beautiful. With the relatively few rooms in the hotel, this is an amazing treat. Just put on your hotel robe and hotel slippers and head down to the pool area and have a glass of champagne! Bathrooms were 5 star and bedding the same. Safes avail. in closet area along with trouser press which is great when traveling for business. We are definitely going to return to this hotel. On a side note, if you have time and it is a beautiful day, take a river cruise (16 euro at the most) for a relaxing way to see a different side Berlin. The tours are in German, but have a leaflet in English to follow along. We boarded the boat near Schloss Charlottenburg which is just minutes from the hotel. Food and drink are avail. and you can take as long a cruise as you wish and get off anywhere it stops in Berlin and then take a taxi back to the hotel.

4 of 5  Beautiful romantic Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Enschede, the Netherlands, October 31, 2005

Beautiful romantic hotel with great service.

The food In Michelin star restaurant Vivaldi Is very good. Our suite (room 10) was very spacious but unfortunately It was located right above the bar. The loud music kept us awake.

Visitors are not allowed to make pictures In the hotel without permission…so I can't show you how beautiful the hotel actually Is. The Kurfurstendamm Is 5 minutes by car.

PR could be better…I never heard of It until I searched the web.

4 of 5  Splendid hotel, confusing management, A TripAdvisor Member, Mannheim, Germany, December 6, 2002

It shows that they have 4 General Managers, 2 different owners and two different managing companies in just one year. As a matter of fact, the hotel is managed by Dorint. Regent is just a franchise label! As I heard, the hotel will be sold and be under new managament again as of Jan 1, 2003! However, the new chef (spangled with two stars from the Michelin guide) is very good and the architecture and design are just stunning. In fact the only 5 star+ hotel in Berlin in a truly historical building, originally built for the last emperors attorney in 1914. And the only 5star hotel in Berlin two have its own garden, splendid in summer for weddings and receptions, also featuring a tanning lawn for the pool users!

In short: Rather a city resort than a typical business hotel!

5 of 5  Für uns das schönste in Berlin, A TripAdvisor Member, Schweiz, November 11, 2008

5 of 5  buen hotel en berlin, A TripAdvisor Member, barcelona, October 22, 2008

5 of 5  Le paradis!!!, A TripAdvisor Member, Lausanne, October 24, 2007

Check-in rapide, efficace.

J'y retournerai

5 of 5  Eins der besten Hotels in Deutschland!, A TripAdvisor Member, Dortmund, August 6, 2006

2 of 5  More than just a disappointment...., A TripAdvisor Member, Eschenbach, October 9, 2006

While the decor of this hotel is splendid, it misses the mark in several areas and is, frankly, not worth the price.

If you're a non-smoker, you will have no where to run from the cigar- and cigarette smokers who are catered to here (yes, there is a non-smoking section in the dining rooms, but you might as well have a non-peeing section in a pool). When asked if there was a place non-smokers could go, we were directed either outside, or to our rooms. Not nice for a place that charges over $200 a room (minimum) a night.

The TV program cards in the rooms do not accurately reflect where the programs are (poor attention to detail, or simply not caring), and the DVD players in the rooms only play Region 2 (Europe) discs, which hardly caters to an international crowd.

There are no coffee services in the rooms (a standard, and welcome commodity in much less expensive houses), forcing you to pay outrageous amounts for room service.

The food prices are extremely high, and you may find that what you want is not available (as happened to us more than once). The breakfast is 23 euros per person and, while slightly varied, is not worth it. Nor is $20 for a small bowl of spaghetti, or $10 for a bottle of water.

We also had poor experiences with the wait staff. While they are polite, and completely bi-lingual, we were charged $25 for our "Complimentary Welcome Drink," which was later "rectified"

by offering us six finger sandwiches and two small pieces of cake.

The staff is always polite when things go right or wrong, but too many things went wrong too often. And at these prices, it really wasn't worth it.

2 of 5  Enttäuschend!, A TripAdvisor Member, Stuttgart, March 4, 2007
