5 of 5  Great Time Great Deal Great Stay, A TripAdvisor Member, astoria,NY, June 24, 2008

great hotel. near everything. can't beat the price. friendliest staff of any hotel i have ever stayed at. Legends sports bar is worth the trip. we g o two times a year, and rarely eat elsewhere even though there are so many places to go. the pools are beautiful. the mini golf is a nice peaceful course. the beach volleyball is a nice touch and hard to find anywhere else. absolutely love it here. found this hotel online while browsing, and have not stayed anywhere else since!

5 of 5  This place is GREAT, A TripAdvisor Member, pittsburgh, October 1, 2007

This is one of the nicest Holiday Inn I have ever stayed at.

The outside deck area, is so nice. It's hard to believe you

are in Pennsylvania. Even on a cool night, the fire pits, and heaters made you feel like you were in the Keys. We even talked briefly with the manager and he was very nice and helpful. The room was clean and very comfortable. I highly recomend this place !

5 of 5  Great improvement, A TripAdvisor Member, new york, December 20, 2006

We stayed at this hotel last year and it was nice, the staff was great but the rooms seemed a little dated. So we came back again this year and they did alot of updating on the rooms you could tell. The staff there kept me coming back but now the rooms are very nice and much more modern now. I'll keep up my annual tradition in this hotel

4 of 5  Nice hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Edinburgh, March 3, 2008

This is a nice hotel with a lovely staff. My only complaints are the private entrance rooms...we had to walk a while or drive to breakfast. Also, the heat was loud and it was difficult to choose anything but it blasting. Other than that, it was good value for money and a decent establishment.

4 of 5  The Holiday Inn is a Pleasant Convenient Hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Fairfax, Virginia, January 3, 2008

My two dogs & I stayed at this Holiday Inn for three nights in late December. Because of the dogs, I specifically requested a room with outside access on the 1’st floor. (The bar has live entertainment on the weekends, and it can get LOUD. I specifically requested a room far from the bar.)

My room (5101) faced a large grassy courtyard. It had a queen size bed, desk, and a chair. There was also a microwave and refrigerator. The room was relatively small but not cramped. The furniture and décor were attractive.

The hotel does not have wireless internet access. But, it did have high speed wired access. Unless you want to use your laptop away from the desk, there’s no need to bring a cable.

I ate at the hotel's Legends restaurant one evening and was impressed. My burger was perfectly prepared, and the fries were hot. Service was excellent. But, I’ll stick to wine rather than a mixed drink next time because my Cosmo was much too sweet.

One evening I got carry out from the Outback Steakhouse which is practically across the street. (This was the first time I’ve ordered online at Outback’s website, and I’ll definitely go that route again rather than calling in my order.)

The thing I like best about this hotel is the location! There’s lots of shopping & restaurants close by. Because of the indoor & outdoor pools, playground equipment, courtyard, picnic tables, and small miniature golf course, this hotel would be a good choice for families.

I stayed at the Hampton Inn in Mechanicsburg a few weeks ago. The Hampton Inn is terrific, and the room was larger and nicer. But, it’s in an industrial park with no shopping and just a couple of casual restaurants nearby. If both hotels were in the same location, I’d choose the Hampton Inn. But, the Holiday Inn’s convenient location puts it ahead in my book.

4 of 5  Cars at Carlisle, A TripAdvisor Member, PA, December 3, 2007

Booked this hotel after trying to find a hotel to stay at for the weekend of GM Carlisle car show and swap meet. Everything nearby is booked up solid all the time so I checked for ones outside the immediate area and this hotel caught my eye on the internet.

I booked a 3-night stay a few years ago for the first time. I have been going back for every show at Carlisle that I stay overnight for ever since.

I don't care about the "outside access" that everyone else seems to be complaining about. I like not having to drag my luggage and things through all kinds of hallways and through double doors to get to my room. I'm not going there for a vacation, it's a place to rest your head and relax between doing different things in the area.

Everything was always very clean and any and all issues quickly and completely taken care of.

The sports bar Legends has all kinds of specials each night that are great!!! The service was awesome every time we went for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

I would recommend this to anyone who is thinking of staying for the Carlisle shows because while yes, it is a few miles down the road from the fairgrounds, it's nice to get away from the crowded restaurants and other hotels and have some quiet while still being plenty close to get to the show early and have no problems.

4 of 5  Good Value Stay near Hershey, A TripAdvisor Member, Connecticut, September 4, 2007

This is a family friendly hotel that is dated but was still a great value. The helpfull staff and amenities make up for it being a older hotel. Would stay again.

4 of 5  Decent place for family Hershey visit, A TripAdvisor Member, Glenside, Pennsylvania, July 27, 2007

The hotel staff was very friendly. There is an indoor and outdoor pool and a mini golf course for the kids. The restaurant was adequate and the kids had a booth with their own TV. Best of all, the kids meals were free. The rooms were clean enough. It took about 25 minutes to get to Hershey. Local restaurants were plenty, and there is a movie theatre real close by for rainy days.

4 of 5  Surprisingly satisfactory considering., A TripAdvisor Member, Norfolk, Virginia, July 16, 2007

This is an old property with outside corridors. I was ready for bad news inside the rooms as well. What I found instead was that my room was immaculate and updated (considering the restrictions of the outside corridors). A refrigerator and microwave, nice bed and linens. Most importantly was that the staff was amazing. When I pulled up to the property in the middle of the night someone insisted on following me to the outmost room (where I was to be located) in order to take my luggage up the stairs and to my room. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to please me. When I had a problem with the room they insisted on fixing it immediately although there was no urgency of time. It is delightful to find that kind of customer service.

4 of 5  Really enjoyed our stay, A TripAdvisor Member, new york, August 22, 2005

My family and I spent 3 days at this hotel. The staff was courteous. Very helpful. My children ages 10 and 5 loved the minature golf!!!! Legends sports bar/ restaurant was great for the adults and the children. There are TV's everywhere. Everyday we sat in the booths, where there is your own tv that you can watch!!! THe kids put on cartoons and were entertained while they ate. I recommend for families who want to visit hershey park or the surrounding area to stay here. The hotel is located on a main route so you are surrounded by restaurants and shopping. It is only 20 minutes from hershey and you will get a good deal and wonderful service

3 of 5  Staff is really trying to improve, A TripAdvisor Member, Cleveland, June 13, 2007

Stayed here after booking through Hotwire which listed it as a 3-star hotel. The rooms are small for a 3-star hotel. When my husband sat in the desk chair, we had to crawl over the bed to access the bathroom.

The staff really did their utmost to ensure our stay was great. They booked us in early, spent time telling our children about the pools and golf course and later called our room to ask if we needed anything. We asked for a fan (white noise to cut husband's snoring). The desk manager said he would see if he could find one and the desk manager himself brought it to our room within 10 minutes.

The coverlet on the one bed had some dog hair on the bottom half (I'm going to assume it was dog hair because I can't face it otherwise) but other than that, the room was clean.

PROS:

Excellent, friendly staff

Nice pools

Wooded picnic area

Miniature golf course

Bar/club with sand volleyball

Easy access to highway

Free Wi-Fi

CONS:

Size of rooms

Bathrooms need updating

Room needed a little more cleaning

I'd give it 4 stars except for the room size and the dog hair issue. The maid should have caught that.

3 of 5  Striving to be average, A TripAdvisor Member, September 25, 2005

We booked our stay using one of the auction travel sites and stayed for about $70, for one night on our way through Harrisburg. Let's say that for $70, this is a pretty good MOTEL. Let me stress that again. MOTEL. Did I mention this is a MOTEL?

We were a little surprised by the fact that we could pull our car right up to the door, which of course has its benefits but also has its drawbacks like noise.

The room did have a strange, stale odor, but this dissapated once we were in it for awhile. The beds are in serious need of either flipping or replacement, I thought we were in the Grand Canyon.

The room was clean and served its purpose. Would I pay over $85 a night to stay here? I think you could do better at a Super 8.

3 of 5  Okay for what we needed..., A TripAdvisor Member, PA, June 4, 2005

We stayed at this hotel for a wedding in May and it was perfect for our use. The rooms were not nice by any means but served the purpose we required- a place to lay our heads after an evening at a wedding reception followed by the fun outdoor bar at the hotel. We clearly were in "party mode" and the front desk was very pleasant about this. They had the policy of "have a great time, we'll leave you alone until another guest complains" which we felt was fair.

2 of 5  Not that great of a hotel...., A TripAdvisor Member, Kansas, June 13, 2008

While staying at the Holiday Inn for a friend's wedding, there were some things I liked about the hotel and some things I did not like. The staff at the front desk was pleasant at check-in. The waiter (Austin) and waitress we had at the hotel restaurant that served us breakfast the next day were phenomenal! They totally went out of their way to make our breakfast an incredible dining experience. They entertained our kids and really were quite wonderful to work with. The rooms were not that clean. There was a hair on the bathtub and on the sink when we first entered the room. The hotel seemed very old. It looks like they've redecorated, but you can still see the hotel's age. Their accommodations for handicapped people are a little strange. Instead of having an elevator, they have a lift that takes the handicapped individual either up to the second floor or to the banquest rooms on the lower level. I'm also surprised that the hotel would put handicap-accessible rooms on the second floor which is where relatives of mine had to stay. All in all, I probably wouldn't stay in this hotel again.

2 of 5  Hmmm - i don't think I'd come back!, A TripAdvisor Member, Leeds, UK, November 3, 2007

The room we had initially was 1227. On the surface, it appeared to be in good condition. Although it was a little dark, the bathroom and bed looked clean. However, upon close inspection, we ended up having to leave this room. The bedspread was not clean at all. In fact, it smelt. It smelt of urine. I believe it to be animal urine, but it is hard to tell. The smell had drifted on the white sheets below and I immediately returned to the reception desk to ask to swap rooms. At first, reception suggested that we get a new bedspread, but when we explained that would not solve the problem, we swapped rooms to 2233.

Room 2233 was in much better condition. It came with a walk-in jacuzzi right in the middle of the floor of the bedroom. It must be one of the suites. Things appeared to be clean although the toilet was dirty with a ring of scum around the watermark area. The bathroom door was also hard to open and it kept sticking to the floor. It needed a good push in order to completely open the door. The rest of the room was in good condition with everything clean and dust free. The only slight problem was with the air-conditioning unit. I decided to put on the heat because it was a chilly evening. No sooner had a flipped the switch to heat, there was the incredible smell of burning. It was as though a fire had started in the room. I immediately turned the heater off. There is clearly a fault with this and I decided to forgo the heating in the room.

The bedding was in excellent condition overall. The sheets, pillows and blankets were clean and crisp too. The mattress was firm without sagging and did not make a noise of any kind. The only slight error was with the bed skirt which runs along the bottom of the bed. This was totally creased and needed a good iron to straighten it out.

The business center appeared to be in good working order. The computers were both connected to the internet and were working fine. Upon calling the technical support number, I had to hold for several minutes before an agent picked up. Using the internet in the room itself was okay but it was not particularly reliable. The speed often varied and the internet would run slow for no apparent reason.

2 of 5  A Big Disappointment, A TripAdvisor Member, May 2, 2006

We were really disappointed with this hotel. We booked through Hotwire and paid a premium price for what Hotwire described as a three-star hotel. We would have been better off at the Motel 6 or other economy place. The room was old and musty and the property in general was on the run-down side. The place needs a big investment to return to decent shape. It was "terrible" for the money and not a three-star property. Shame on Hotwire. Usually I use Priceline and am quite satisfied. I did so on my last stay and Priceline gave us the Wyndham Garden, which Priceline called 2.5 star. It was vastly superior to the Holiday Inn and cost less. This was my first and last use of Hotwire.

2 of 5  Not quite as nice as picture, A TripAdvisor Member, westchester, NY, July 20, 2005

Stayed here just last weekend to visit Hershey Park. It wasn't quite as nice as the photos online. The photo of the front looks great because it's taken at night - but it's a big parking lot in front and the margarita deckbar looks like some plywood was added to the side of the building as an afterthought (I did not go inside the bar though so can't comment on it). The room was okay - had a king room on 2nd floor overlooking pool. There aren't many tv channels to choose from especially for kids (only disney and nickolodeon). It was basically like a motel with a nice lobby added after. The indoor pool was small - I think it's designed for laps as it wasn't very wide. The outdoor pool was much larger but it was very crowded - it was also closed on Sunday when we tried to go - maybe because the weather was very overcast with sporadic thunderstorms, although at the time it was nice. The worst part of our stay was that below our room were some families who were staying together. They were camped out on the grass outside their rooms with coolers and beach chairs and kind of rowdy - they were also all in the outdoor pool at once and were noisy late at night sitting outside. The mini golf was just OK but it's surrounded by trees to keep it hidden which also seems to attract bugs and was swamped by rain. The kids playground was only 2 swings and 1 slide - less than what a family would have in their own backyard. I probably wouldn't stay here again - not that it was awful - just not worth the Holiday Inn prices. It is also about 20 minutes further away from Hershey if you are driving from the East - so I would stay somewhere before Hershey next time. Front desk staff was nice and they did give us 2 $5 coupons (1 for bar and 1 for the restaurant). There are many places to eat on the street. It's located on a busy street with many fastfood and chain restaurants in either direction and also bought our discount HersheyPark tickets at the Giant supermarket about 5 minutes straight down the road.

2 of 5  Disappointing for a Holiday Inn, A TripAdvisor Member, Texas, March 19, 2005

I just returned from my first trip to Mechanicsburg, PA, where I stayed for three nights at the Holiday Inn – Harrisburg West per suggestions from my co-workers due to its convenience to the Navy facility – NAVICP. The hotel’s close proximity to NAVICP is probably it’s number one selling point. While the hotel’s lobby and dining areas are beautiful, the rooms are not. According to my co-workers who have been traveling to Mechanicsburg for a long time, this hotel was built in the late 1970’s or early 1980’s. The hotel is in the old, more “motel” looking fashion where the rooms have access from outside instead an interior hallway.

I stayed in a room on the second story of the first building and though my room was a non-smoking room, it had an odd musty smell that persisted my whole stay. Even once I thought that I got used to the smell, I would wake up in the middle of the night just to be shocked at how strong the odor was again.

That being said, I paid $78 per night (government rate) for a non-smoking 2 double beds room. The room had a television with limited channels, but also had an iron (that leaked water when ironing), ironing board, hair dryer, and plenty of room to unpack and hang clothes. I believe that the rooms have free wireless Internet, but did not bring my laptop on this trip, so I can’t verify that. One of the best features for government guests is the $5 off coupons for breakfast, which can be used towards a continental breakfast or several items on the regular menu. The breakfast was yummy and the waitress was quick and friendly.

Other features of the hotel include indoor lap pool, outdoor swimming pool, a smallish workout room, and a children’s play set in the back. The out door swimming pool was closed while I was there due to the season and I did not try out the other features.

Overall, I would not stay at this hotel for personal travel where the cost would be more than the government rate. I just don’t think that the room that I stayed in was worth that. I have stayed in nicer, newer Holiday Inn Expresses that cost less per night and included a free Continental Breakfast and hot cinnamon rolls. This one just didn’t rate as high for me. I would stay here again on government travel for the convenience of the location since I would not be paying the bill anyhow.

2 of 5  Lovely staff, unimpressive hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, Tennessee, October 14, 2004

While the desk clerks and restaurant waitresses were lovely, friendly and helpful (which is important!), the hotel turned out to be a 1950's era motel disguised by a front addition. With paper thin walls, ancient and in my case nonworking heat/ac the redecorated rooms open to the great outdoors rather than the much safer and more private interior corridors of more recent design. Unless you are getting a GREAT deal on cost, look for a newer hotel.

2 of 5  Promises kept - not, A TripAdvisor Member, Taylorsville, Utah, December 9, 2003

There were some good things during our week's stay - the did send a repairman over when our room's heating unit malfunctioned, but those good things were far over-shadowed by the hotel's failure to keep its promise to have a shuttle available to take us to the train station - a promise made by a person assigned to us as a "rep" to take care of all "our problems and needs."

1 of 5  Damp, dirty, noisy, A TripAdvisor Member, Washington DC, September 15, 2008

We always book through Hotwire and go for 3 or 4 star hotels. This hotel is the only one we've ever had a problem with, but it fell way short of the mark. The check-in was extremely efficient and the lobby area was nice with free cookies. There is a "Hardware Bar" there that is extremely popular. The parking lot was packed each night. There were a lot of party people staying there, it had the feel of a young college crowd. There was a lot of noise as people walked by at all hours of the night and morning, lots of "hootin and hollering" and profanities. Since we were there with a toddler, this wasn't an ideal scenario.

The main problem was the room. The hotel itself looks old and outdated and is the "outside room entry" type typical of motels. Our room felt dank and damp, the carpet was worn and frayed and did not look clean, the tiles in the bathroom were grungy. We ordered a movie that first night, for 12.99, and incidentally you can not change channels during the movie and come back to it which is different from many other hotels we've been at. We ordered pizza and got some sauce on one of the sheets. The next day we put the card on top of the bed that says "Please change the linens". When we got back at the end of the day- same pizza spot on the sheets! That means the comforters and pillows we had put on the disgusting floor for our son to play on were re-used too, fluffed up and put back on our bed. It was humid that day, and upon returning to our room everything had that dank feeling like when you're camping and your stuff gets water-logged with morning dew. Nothing like sliding into damp and dirty sheets at the end of a long day!

The nice thing about the room is that it does have a refrigerator and microwave.

The worst thing was probably that the bathtub wouldn't drain. While taking a shower I was horrified to see the water not draining, so whatever was stuck in the drains, shudder, was swirling up and around my feet and ankles. Yuck.

We did not complain to the staff because moving from one dirty room to another after we had all our stuff spread out just didn't seem appealing. I am going to let them know about the linens though because that is just gross.

1 of 5  Nightmare Weekend, A TripAdvisor Member, PA, November 8, 2007

We stayed for a soccer tournament and the rooms are all outside entry rooms and they were very noisy. The walking deck bounced every time someone walked past your room so much that it vibrated into the room. The rooms were very average and cramped. They hotel advertised a "Pig Roast" for $14.95 which seemed like a good deal. The problem was there was no roast pig! They had pork BBQ, burgers, chicken and dogs. Since you had to buy your tickets at the front desk we just ate there anyway. Then the hotel charged us for rooms that were cancelled;. After booking 30 plus room nights of business for this hotel and to be treated the way we were they obviously are only interested in revenue and not the customer experience.

We will not be back and will recommned other hotels that treat cusotmers well to all future teams going to the Dillsburg soccer tournament!

1 of 5  Won't be staying there again..., A TripAdvisor Member, Maryland, November 7, 2006

We chose a 3-start hotel through Hotwire and ended up at this Holiday Inn. Although hotel staff were friendly and professional, the hotel room was a big disappointment. The bathtub was badly stained, and it was noisy outside (lots of people leaving the hotel bar, I'd guess). The worst part was what sounded like a leaky pipe in the walls or ceiling that made a dripping/clanking noise periodically the entire night. I think this is a 2-star hotel at best, and hope that Hotwire will adjust the rating for other travelers in the future.

1 of 5  the worst hotel i ever stayed, A TripAdvisor Member, deathtaco9000, August 22, 2006

i went into the room and there were no towels, soap, toilet paper, tissues. i stopped one of the housekeepers and her name was Mechelle and she was very rude to me. she said i had to wait 2 hours for my towels. that night still having no towels i called housekeeping and they were still rude to me.... all i wanted to do was take a shower i had to go across the street to the old country buffet to use the bathroom.... they had very good service and toilet paper.... if only the hotel was this way. i would not recommend this hotel to ANYONE. The price was outrages for such bad rooms and service.

1 of 5  what a dump!, A TripAdvisor Member, May 13, 2005

I have never been in a hotel room that had one towel for 2 people, no toilet paper, no kleenex. Floors hadn't been cleaned in a long time. The bedding, comfortors, furniture were very old & worn. The entire room was musty, and needed a complete cleaning. They did have free interent, but no desk, no place to put your laptop to use it. The back parking lot was dark, which made it impossible to find your room, or which of the several buildings was yours. Uncaring, unhelpful staff, no free breakfast as Holiday Inn promises at many of their hotels. This is an outdated, run down hotel in need of repair.

1 of 5  Rip off hotel, A TripAdvisor Member, New York, NY, July 29, 2004

What a rip off!!! I paid over $120 for this room on hotels and when we arrived at the hotel, the same room was offered for $50. The concierge wouldn't honor that price at all. When we arrived at the rooms, the rooms smelt of god knows what. The bath tubs were really dirty, and the TVs didn't work properly. Nothing really worked properly.

1 of 5  Yuck wouldn't even stay the second night, A TripAdvisor Member, Suburbs, July 5, 2004

Wasn't too pleased with this hotel from the min. We got there. Real motel like stucture 2 stories of rooms off long outdoor walk ways, that was ok, but when we went into the room, I was a little jigged out by the lack of upkeep and felt very unclean to me. It was cheap 89/night, so I stayed. Took the kids to the pool to swim, they had a good outdoor pool, but it was about 9pm, and it was dark. So we went in the indoor pool. Very toxic. My daughter jumped in and complained right away that the clorine was stinging her skin. They were only in the pool about 2 min and wanted to get out and go shower. I couldn't even breath. It was bad. So I went back to my room and called about finding another hotel for the next night as we were suppose to stay 2 nights. The other hotel at hershey park was double this price, but worth it not to stay here another night. I booked 8 different hotel rooms on our trip through the internet and priceline and this was the only one that was a disappointment. Too bad I have stayed at some great Holiday Inns before. They did have a bar and stuff that looked fun for young people, but as I was with my 13 and 10year olds, they weren't a plus for us. Don't go here.... really for the price I am sure that you could find something cleaner.
