We stayed here for a romantic weekend away. We spent the first night at the Radisson and this place was 10 times what the Radisson was. The staff was great, there was plenty of parking, you had quick access to the lakewalk and Canal Park. The rooms were large and the bed was comfortable. The lakeside view is beautiful and it was wonderful to people watch. The hotel is quiet even with a full house. The breakfast was hot and tasty, the wireless access was great, it dipped a little in our room but still usable. I would recommend anyone to stay here, it was so perfect. Absolute hotel love.

Our family of four (including kids age 7 and 3), stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel was steps from the lake and an easy walk to all attractions. We parked our car and didn't need to move it until the end of our stay. We ate breakfast on the outdoor patio overlooking Lake Superior each morning. The breakfast had scrambled eggs, waffles, cereal, yogurt, mufins and donuts, fresh fruit, toast, bagels, milk, coffee, and juice. The breakfast area served coffee, cappucino, hot cocoa, and spiced cider 24 hours a day. They had chairs and couches in the breakfast room facing the lake. Many families used this area to hang out and play board games in the evening and watch the ships out on the lake. This hotel was clean, had large rooms, and a very friendly staff. This is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at! We talked to some other guests who said they have stayed at all of the hotels in Canal Park and this hotel is now the only one they stay at when they visit. We will be going back again next year. Wonderful location right next to Lake Superior, Canal Park, and the Aerial Lift Bridge. Our room was comfortable and clean, and the staff was pleasant and helpful. Continental breakfasts were a treat (waffles, eggs, and meat) with a spacious eating area and the view of the lake from the windows. We enjoyed the experience so much that we are already planning to return for our family vacation next year! As always this is the place to stay while visiting Duluth. Everything is always as it should be while staying here. My husband and I have been talking up one of Minnesota's loveliest cities - Duluth - for some time to our Iowa relatives. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law agreed to drive up from Des Moines to join us for a visit. Our trip was made even more enjoyable by the Comfort Suites Canal Park. It is located close to all that the area surrounding the waterway and aerial bridge has to offer. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly, courteous and accommodating. The breakfast buffet is a plus. Would definitely recommend to visitors of all ages. We stayed 2 nights and were very happy with Comfort Suites. First off, it's location is the closest to the Canal other than the South Pier Inn (which is right on it). From our lakeview room we could watch the ships enter and leave the canal. Walking to the canal takes just 3 minutes or so. Breakfast was OK, capuccino machine is on all the time. Breakfast room is small though and we found ourselves eating on the patio because the tables were full. Pool is OK, on the smaller side but kept at a nice temp. We will stay here again! I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to have a good room without interruptions. We were fortunate enough to get the Jacuzzi suite in this hotel for two nights over Christmas 2004. The suite was very large with multiple windows facing the lake and a huge room for only two people. The facility is very clean and comfortable. The hotel has the best breakfast of any in Canal Park: waffles, pancakes, eggs, cereal, doughnuts and bagels along with coffee and juices. The pool is big and all of the facilities are very comfortable. You will pay for this hotel, but it is worth every penny you spend! My family and I stayed at the Comfort Suites in Canal Park for a Labor Day holiday. The location can not be beat, it truly is the best part of the hotel. You are in close proximity to everything in Canal Park and the Lakewalk is right off the back patio. We reserved a King Suite with a lakeview for only $134/night. If you reserve your room online from the company's choicehotels web site, select the Internet User's rate, and receive 10% off of every night of your stay. You won't get this rate if you call them directly! The pool area was average. It had a smallish pool and hot tub. They were never crowded, however. The free breakfast was very nice! They had Belgian waffle makers, a wide variety of toast & bagels, fresh fruit, and eggs. The dining area has full-length windows overlooking Lake Superior -- a great way to start the day! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I had an unusal request (I needed salt for my daughter's vaporizer...), which they honored without hesitation. They also had stamps and mailed my postcards for me as well! The only downside is that the room size was a bit small, considering it was a Suite. It was almost as though they packed too much furniture in there. There was a sleeper sofa, King bed, 2 nightstands, coffee table, armoire, dresser, desk, and a bar area with a microwave and refridgerator! However, all of it was nicely decorated and new, without any wear and tear. We have also stayed at the South Pier Inn (very enjoyable!), but this hotel offers much more (Lake Superior views, excellent breakfast, and pool amenities) for much less (comparable rooms were ~$30 more a night)! South Pier Inn is great for couples and romantic visits, but for my family, we will definitely stay at the Comfort Suites again on our next visit. Had a great time at thr Comfort Suites in Duluth. The wife and I will return next year. Everything is so centrally located, great service and continantal breakfast. My mother and I stayed here the night of August 18, 2004 during a Minnesota sojourn (she made the reservation). This hotel is located in Duluth's Canal Park district, literally steps away from the shores of Lake Superior. My first impression of the hotel was that it was far nicer than most properties in this chain. There was a front porch lounge, which gave the feel of a vacation inn. The lobby was inviting and had a rack crammed full of brochures and information on area attractions. Off the lobby was the hotel's indoor pool and whirlpool. The large, sunny breakfast room (located off the main lobby) had floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on Lake Superior. There was a deck with chairs and tables for those who wished to take in the lake breezes. Check-in was efficient, and we were given coupons to two restaurants within walking distance. A nice touch! My mother and I were very pleasantly surprised when we entered our room. The room was decorated in a tasteful Mission style, which we found quite relaxing. The sitting area had a love seat that doubled as a sleeper sofa, a table & chairs, lamps by the love seat & table, and a microwave, mini-fridge & coffee maker. There were outlets for both high-speed & dial-up Internet access at the table. The bedroom had two queen-size beds (quite comfortable), full size double dresser, color cable television with remote, and an armoire/closet. The furnishings were high quality -- not that wood veneer stuff. The bathroom was large and well lit, and had plenty of counter space. We had plenty of towels, as well as shampoo, conditioner and hand lotion. Other in-room amenities included voice mail, pay-per-view movies (you can order a movie with a swipe of your credit card), iron/ironing board, and hair dryer. The hotel also has business services (computer with Internet access & printer), and a complimentary continental breakfast (standard fare). The location in the heart of the Canal Park district can't be beat. You're literally steps away from the Lake Superior boardwalk, and within walking distance of such attractions as the Aerial Lift Bridge and Great Lakes Aquarium. Not to mention the bevy of dining and shopping options literally steps away. For all the activity in the neighborhood, noise was not really a problem (for the most part). My mother paid $125.10 for one night. This was at the height of tourist season, and the hotel was completely booked the night we stayed there. When Mother booked the room she was given a choice of "lake view" or "city view." The lake view is $60 more -- but what an incredible view it is! She opted for the city view, and we had a nice view of the city, which is built on bluffs abutting Lake Superior. We noticed a pretty diverse group of guests -- mainly families, but also seniors and some couples. This hotel very pleasantly surprised me. In my opinion, the quality was that of a Radisson or Sheraton, except for the lack of a full-service restaurant. Since there are so many restaurants in the area, that's not really a problem. My only regret is we didn't spend more time in Duluth to explore this very charming city. We loved the Comfort Suites. We had a beautiful lake view. We were close to everything in Canal Park. The rooms were comfortable. The staff were very friendly. The rooms were quiet. Would definitely stay here again! You couldn't ask for a better place to stay. The view is absolutely wonderful and so is the Staff. You coudn't give the staff the ratings they deserve because they give more than 300% to make sure your stay is the best. The breakfast is definitely more than your typical continental breakfast, and again the view while you eat is breathtaking. The Canal Park area is just wonderful. Watching the ships come in, I could go on forever. In short, if you are going to Duluth - Stay at the Comfort Suites. We were here for our daughters College Conference Track Meet and the location was ideal, and again the staff gave us preprinted directions to the University, made our stay so enjoyable. I can't wait to find a reason to go back. My family has stayed at this Comfort Suites many times & we always have a delightful time ! The staff is great, the rooms are wonderful & the location can't be beat ! I have stayed at every hotel down in the Canal Park area and I have to say that the Comfort Suites is by far my favorite place to stay! The hotel makes you feel like you are stepping into class with their beautiful wooden starcase right when you walk into the hotel. All of the rooms there have refrigerator and microwaves as well as sofa-sleepers. The fact that they are the closest hotel to the liftbridge gives their guests the best view of the ships coming in. The staff also keeps you really informed of when the ships are coming in and out of the harbor. Their breakfast buffet is great!! They have belgian waffle makers, hard boiled eyes and fresh fruit. Their staff, down to the maintenance men and housekeeping are always smiling and they stop to talk to you to insure that you are having a great time in Duluth. For anyone that is looking for a great place to stay you have to pick the Comfort Suites!! And say hi to Molly at the front desk....she is the epidomy of customer service! This was my fist trip to Duluth and reading online it appeared that Canal Park was the place to stay. I didnt reserve a room and was fortunate that Comfort Suites has one available. The Duluth lakefront is beautiful and the Comfort Suites is the absolute best location. It is closest to the pier so you can quickly walk out and watch the huge cargo ships pass by. It is across the street from the main shopping district and an easy walk to the aquarium. I was delighted with the location. The Hotel is probably a typical comfort suites but very well maintained. The pool area is very nice with two hot tubs. Breakfast included hot foods. The only downside to my stay was the noisy neighbors (part of a wedding party out partying and coming in 12:30am 2:30am and very noisy) not the hotels fault although a little more soundproofing would be nice. Overall was very satisfied. We had a lakeside room, during the week, in the off-season. It was quiet and comfortable. The staff was courteous. However, we rely on good high-speed internet and the internet connection was very poor. Wireless was very unreliable & kept dropping our connection. Ethernet was very slow & also dropped the connection. If you don't care about the internet, everything else was fine. The staff are very friendly, you can't beat the breakfast and the location is super. Lots to do and with the DECC very close by (2 min walk). We even got to see a number of ships go under the bridge which is right next door. My family makes a trip up to Duluth from Minneapolis each fall and have stayed at the Comfort Suites each time. We have always been pleased with this hotel. The rooms are nice and have always been clean. The pool area is adequate. The free continental breakfast is nice. The hotel is at a great location - right on the water. It's walking distance to many restaurants and shops in Canal Park. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Duluth! We had a King Suite here and really enjoyed our stay. The suite had a king bed, sleeper sofa, fridge/microwave. They had complimentary breakfast in the morning and also have a pool/whirlpool. It is nice to be right down by the park too--one night (3 am) we heard a fog horn and ran over to the park in time to see a ship going under the bridge. I would recommend this hotel to all. We stayed here just one night on our way through Duluth however we have stayed here for other weekend trips. The front desk staff are always friendly and helpful. The hotel appears nice and clean however the wear and tear is starting to tell. Like our bathroom sink had a chunk taken out of it. The hotel is right on the waterfront and beside the bridge. It is something to watch the ships coming and going. The ships and bridge horn only honk during certain hours in order to not disturb hotel area guests. I have never heard honking during the night or early morning hours. There are many places to eat and drink nearby as is the DECC and an IMAX and move theater. It is very easy to get off the interstate or to go to downtown Duluth. We picked this hotel as it was the least expensive place to stay in canal park on that day. Save traveling to you all... I stayed in Duluth from the 23rd of October until the 26th. The hotel has an excellent location and is easy to reach. Generally I liked the stay very much. Annoying was the smell though. It really smelled like some synthetic paint or strong cleaner throughout the entire hotel. After ventilating the room it got better, but it was very cold, so I had no chance to keep windows open. I was waked up a few times by very loud neighbor guests, slamming doors, and so on. But this is not a problem of the hotel, but the guests. You also hear the very loud horns of the ships moving trough the canal during the night, quite romantic, but I don’t get the point of all the noise in the middle of the night. Staff was OK. I would have liked a little bit more of a refined way of serving breakfast for the price of the rooms. We loved the city of Duluth. It really has some beautiful architecture. The Canal Park area was very touristy. We were right on the water-the boardwalk was great for people watching. Our room had some issues. The beds were uncomfortable. The toilet broke. The light in the bathroom was broken. The noise from the traffic on Canal was bothersome. We would probably try another hotel if in the area again. We stayed here for one night on our honeymoon. We were heading up to Grand Marais. The parking was okay. The view was good, although we were here during winter so all we saw was clouds and huge waves and snow/ice falling. The bed was so uncomfortable. My husband who can sleep on anything even had troubles. They were so so hard. We ordered pizza in and went to bed early. Internet worked okay. Breakfast was okay the next morning, nice view from the breakfast room. It was more appropriate for families than couples. We stayed at the Radisson on the way back down to the Cities and that ranked so much better than this place!!!! The beds were moderately comfortable they had a great pool and hot tub. The rooms are medium size with a sofa and sitting area. There is a hot breakfast buffet.

We just returned from our trip to Duluth for the weekend. We decided to get away from the cities and booked our hotel a day before we left. We spent $120/nt on lakeside king bed suite. We thought that it was a very good deal as the hotel was in front of the lake and it was the weekend. There was a catch, however. There was a hockey tournament in town and there were many kids. The room was clean although it was a bit small. Breakfast was good. The pool was small but it was enough for our toddler. We let "hockey kids" have fun because they are just kids until they started playing music (instrument) after 10pm. The hotel clerk was very good about dealing with our complaints and the noise came down to an acceptable level. Then our toddler started screaming. She's done several trips to overseas with no problems and she never had problems with sleeping in different beds. This was actually the shortest trip we have made so far. I was so worried that anybody could hear her screaming because of its thin wall. The reason we are not going to stay this hotel was its noise. The wall was so thin that you could hear everything. I mean "everything". This is our first time we stayed at this chain hotel and it may be their standards for the price we paied for. Next time we're not going to make a same mistake again.
