Fairfield Inn Duluth

At $155 for a night the hotel did not come close to living up to my expectations. Someone needs to go through the rooms and replace flickering florescent bulbs (main light) and repair the constantly running shower faucet (which may be a contributor to the apparent mold in the shower).

The rest of the hotel appears to be clean as is the room itself.

The hotel website needs to be updated to list the fact that they do have a pool and hot tub.

Location is convienient to shopping and the airport.

We stayed three days at this hotel during October. If you are looking for a hotel close to Lake Superior, this is not for you, but it is convenient to shopping and restaurants. Check-in went smooth and the front desk staff were helpful guiding us to sights around the city. Our room was spacious and clean. The free breakfast had a nice selection of items, including waffles and Jimmy Dean Sandwiches. Free USA Today during the week. I would highly recommend this hotel.

I won this hotel off of priceline for only $50/night!! Fabulous price, and really, a great place to stay. The room was comfy. Beds were just fine - even pillows were nice. The windows had room darkeners which I was very impressed with. Felt like midnight in the middle of the day! Perfect for a nap after walking in the mall nearby! Close to restaurants, and a delicious morning breakfast to boot. The pool was small, but the hot tub looked nice. I didn't use either, but saw people in them all weekend. The room next to me had people staying in it on the second night and their shower was pretty LOUD to me, but that's my only complaint!

I stayed two nights in the hotel during a business trip. The hotel is new, clean and has a good service. It´s location is very convenient to those who want to stay near the shopping mall and airport.

This is our second stay at the Fairfield/ Marriott in Duluth and we have enjoyed our stay both times. We travel to Duluth for shopping twice a year and found the beds to be just perfect to our liking. The cheery decor and comfortable, upholstered swivel chair at the writing desk add to a sense of style and luxury. And all those fluffy pillows are great! Unfortunately the coffee maker in the room is a one cupper so ask for more coffee the night before, but there is always coffee, hot water for tea or hot chocolate as well as fruit available in the front lobby 24 hours.There is a small pool and whirlpool which we haven't had a chance to use yet since we usually collapse in our rooms after our shopping marathon of all the surrounding stores and malls nearby. In the morning there is a lovely breakfast bar of fruit, cereals, breads, muffins, donuts, boiled eggs, and some kind of Jimmie Dean sausage and egg thingy as well as make your own belgian waffles, along with delicious coffee , tea and juices to enjoy over a newspaper or watching television in the spacious breakfast room (just like home). The 3 hour window for having breakfast is just great too to accomodate early risers as well as sleepy heads like us.The staff are friendly and helpful and I know that we will be returning again next shopping trip.

This was not the best Marriot property I have ever seen.

I will start with the positives... The staff was very friendly. Every one I talked to was extremely nice and helpful.

The breakfast was nice-- It had a waffle maker, Jimmy Dean Sandwhiches, yogurt, bagels, toast, fruit and cereal.

The breakfast area was a bit crowded. There was a very nice breakfast attendant trying to do crowd control.

The neagtives...... The number one negative was the praking lot!!! It was small!!! There is not enough parking spots for all of the guests. OK Duluth in the winter is not pleasant to have to walk more then you need to with your luggage (through cold and snow). There is a small road next to the hotel people were parking on-- OR you have to cross a busy street and park in the shopping area across the street. We got back from the Duluth convention center and got back late and we had to park illegaly..

The other thing that was not good----- There is a bright light in the parking lot that shines in the room. The first night we stayed we did not know there were "secret curtains" that needed to be drawn to block out the light. The front desk attendant needed to show us on the second night,,,, we stay at hotels often and we could not figure it out on the first night.

The rooms were OK nothing great and the bathroom was OK nothing special.

I always try to give our buisness to Marriot hotel, so I drove a but further to stay here all though we were about 10 miles from town,, but next time I am in Duluth I will stay in a different hotel near the lake.

BAD BAD parking situation.

I won this hotel on Priceline, and I was fearing the worst from reading the previous reviews. I was pleasantly suprised that the hotel was not that bad of a place. The staff was friendly and professional, no problems with accomodating my room preferences, even on a sold-out night. My room was clean and adequate, though not luxurious by any means. The beds were firm, but not what I would consider hard or uncomfortable, and the pillows were very nice. The breakfast in the morning was ok, with waffles, pastries and fruits. The pool/hot tub was nice but small, typical of other Fairfields that I've stayed at. Overall, it was an okay place to stay for one night.

The downside to me was the location, just because it's located about 3 or 4 miles "inland" and away from the lake, downtown, and tourist areas. I didn't like driving back and forth, but it wasn't too bad (it's all downhill from the hotel to town!). The area immediately around the hotel is very suburban and mall-like, so others may find that appealing but I would have preferred to stay closer to the town and the bars.

The only other thing that I really disliked was that the room doors slam shut loudly, and that gets really annoying when I'm trying to sleep. Unfortunately, it's a common problem at many hotels and not much to do but deal with it for a night and then move on.

Overall, the positives of my stay outweighed the negatives but I still think it's just an average motel that's suited more to business travellers or one-night stays. It's great if you get a good deal there on Priceline, but I think the $120 that they're charging is too much for just a bed and a shower and a waffle in the morning. If you're looking for a place to spend a weekend with your kids, it would be better to stay in the Canal Park area as there's more to see and do around there within walking distance.

At a rate of $141 a night, we expected a decent room, but were pretty disappointed. The beds were very hard, not comfortable at all. The bathroom was not clean, and that is a very important point with us! The hotel was noisy, and there were unruly children running and hooting in the hall. When we mentioned it to the front desk, they apologized, but didn't follow up. The staff was nice, however, and when we asked for extra blankets, they brought them in about 15 minutes. We have stayed at much nicer hotels for less money. We won't be staying there again.

We decided to stay at the Fairfield in for one night and I tell you it was the worst choice we ever made. We decided to have a late check out that morning becuase we had stayed up and watched a movie the night before so we wanted to sleep in. We left our room about one minute before check out and headed down the the front desk. When we got just about to the front desk we could hear that whoever was at the front desk on the phone. She must of been on the phone with the manager or someone becuase she thought we had skipped out on paying out bill for out hotel room. I tell you they could of gave the person a benifit of a doubt. We may have been a younger couple but that still means were paying customers. That means we should get some respect. There workers representing the hotel that morning made a person fell very uncomfterable instead of friendly like excpect a hotel staff to make a tourist feel. If I were you I would go some where else.

We booked a 3 nights stay @ $69.00/night. Great price BUT the King bed was the worst bed we've ever slept in. Might as well have been a sheet over a piece of wood (that's just the beginning). We checked out a day early with NO sleep and the clerk charged my credit card 3 times for all 3 nights totalling $746.85 (Good thing I have a good bank!) and my girlfriends once for the 2 nights, reassuring her, with an attitude, that my credit card was never charged. The movie we paid for took 3 phone calls to finally get it working. Still waiting to see how many times we were charged for that. Overall we give the FAIRFIELD INN in Duluth, MN a BIG FAT Zero (0). Horrible experience and a travelers nightmare dealing with the charges and money tied up in the charges. Poor representative of the Marriot Family. I'd HIGHLY RECOMMEND STAYING somewhere else. The street would've been better even with the 6" of snow. Have a nice day!
