I was not impressed. They claim to have won some awards. Awards mean nothing unless you think serving wine and cheese in the lobby makes you look like a Hyatt. I wanted a clean, non-smoking and comfortable room. What can I say? Three strikes and you are out.

5 of 5  Cleanest hotel ever, A TripAdvisor Member, chicago, May 31, 2007

We stayed at this Holiday Inn because the hotel we were originally reserved at was overbooked.

We were sent to the Holiday Inn and given a one bedroom suite.

As a previous reviewer noted, this is a Holiday Inn and pretends to be nothing else. HOWEVER, the place was perfectly immaculate! I have never stayed in such a clean hotel. We had an opportunity to walk around the grounds and there was not a speck of garbage or anything out of place anywhere.

The lobby is lovely, sparkling, and the employees are uniformed and polite.

The room was the largest one bedroom suite I have stayed in. It would be perfect for a family or someone who wishes to entertain in their room. The living room had a sleeper couch, wet bar with refrigerator and microwave, good size dining table and an alcove with a desk.

The bedroom and bath were fine, again spotless with a whirlpool tub.

I was so impressed that I called the manager before checking out and he told me that his executive housekeeper had won the national Holiday Inn housekeeping award. He also mentioned plans to put new comforter/duvets on the beds.

I would definitely return if in the area.

5 of 5  One of the best Holiday Inns I've ever stayed in, A TripAdvisor Member, Alexandria, VA, March 16, 2006

I spend 30-40 nights a year in hotels, and this is perhaps one of the best Holiday Inns I've stayed in. Every amenity possible in the room, front desk will do ANYTHING for you, mattresses are brand new, rooms are squeaky clean. I stayed two nights and saw housekeeping supervisors with clipboards walking around many times throughout both days of my stay. Several times I saw housekeepers cleaning little tiny details in the public areas of the hotel. This is definitely the cleanest and friendliest hotel in Boardman.

4 of 5  Great Hotel, Very Courteous Staff, Clean, A TripAdvisor Member, philadelphia, May 14, 2009

My family has gotten together for a family reunion for the past three years at this hotel and we are never dissapointed. The staff has always been very accomodating and courteous and the rooms and facilities are clean. Only negative - maybe a tad too much chlorine in the pool.

4 of 5  A good choice when in the Youngstown/Boardman area, A TripAdvisor Member, Cheshire, CT, October 23, 2006

A good choice when in the Youngstown area. The hotel is very convenient to all area attractions and also has almost every "chain" restaurant and/or store within a mile of the hotel. The hotel is very clean and has a very outgoing and friendly house-keeping staff.

The rooms are standard for this type of hotel, but more than acceptable at this price range. There is also a very clean and good-sized indoor swimming pool on site.

The restaurant is OK, but the attached lounge has an overwhelming smell of stale cigarettes (Ohio still permits smoking in bars and restaurants). This smell can be found emanating well into the lobby at all hours of the day and can be quite offensive to be around. Smokers and non-smokers in my group were surprised at the lack of adequate ventilation for this area. I cannot imagine how or why the management of this hotel has spent so much effort to ensure such a clean and attractive facility, but scars the image with the putrid odor of their lounge.

Otherwise, a good choice for your stay.

4 of 5  Very good option, A TripAdvisor Member, Charlottesville, Virginia, July 16, 2006

We traveled to Youngstown to visit a sick relative and had a bad experience at a place in Niles (just north of here) on our first night. We tried the Holiday Inn Boardman on a recommendation for our second night, and it was clean and nice. It's located in an area with a lot of restaurants, although we ate breakfast inside the hotel restaurant and it was very good. The service was also notably good. Recommended.

4 of 5  Best Hotel the Entire Trip! Great!, A TripAdvisor Member, Rockford, Illinois, November 4, 2005

This summer my family traveled from Illinois to Pennsylvania to New York and all over. We were looking for a half way point for our trip to stop overnight. I decided since we weren't going to need specific ammenities for just a late night stop, I'd use Priceline.com. Well, I ended up getting a room at this Holiday Inn in Boardman for $40. When we arrived, I thought that we must have the wrong hotel because it looked so nice for the price I was paying. I have to say, this was by far the nicest hotel we stayed in the whole trip. I am fairly picky in regards to cleanliness and this place passed my test with flying colors. The rooms were clean and smelled fresh, the lobby and pool area were beautiful. The beds were even comfortable, which is hard to come by in a hotel. I was actually sad that we only had one short night in this hotel. I would have liked to stay longer. My only complaint is that the front desk employee was not very friendly. Considering that I had no problems and the stay was wonderful, I can deal with it. He wasn't rude, just not very friendly. If I ever travel through Ohio again,I will definitely stay here.

4 of 5  Very nice!, A TripAdvisor Member, March 14, 2004

I recently stayed here on business and was pleasantly suprised. It was nicely furnished, very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. I didn't have a chance to eat on site but my colleagues who I travelled with did and had rave reviews. Overall..this was one of the nicest Holiday Inn properties that I have ever stayed in.

4 of 5  Well worth the price!, A TripAdvisor Member, Pennsylvania, February 24, 2004

For the price, you cannot go wrong with this hotel. Very clean and comfortable, large rooms with BIG king size beds. The staff will do anything they can to make your stay comfortable. The dining in the hotel is above average and very reasonable prices. The hotel rooms were very clean along with the rest of the hotel. You will not be disappointed. Can't wait to return!

4 of 5  Great Place to Stay!, A TripAdvisor Member, Pontiac, MI, November 12, 2003

The rooms were just recently renovated. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I stayed there 3 months in 2 week stints and they made me feel like it was home. Very good Italian restaurant onsite. Free High Speed Internet Access. Will be back for sure.

2 of 5  Great Hotel until the Inebriated Guest, A TripAdvisor Member, Ohio, August 18, 2007

Our 30th Class Reunion was held at the Holiday Inn Boardman, September 2006.

My girlfriend and I decided to book a Suite ($180.) for the night and we were certainly not disappointed (so far). It was gorgeous!!!!

The first room was the living area; sleeper sofa, desk area and a dining area with wetbar. The bedroom had a very comfy king bed and a gorgeous mirrored jacuzzi (for two) The bath, like the other two rooms, was also very good size with a glassed shower with 2 heads on opposite walls..very nice!!!

Now for the downside...

First, we wanted to use the pool after checking in. When

we arrived, it was useless. The pool area was entirely filled

with band students from NJ waiting for their buses. You couldn't get to the pool. It was bad enough that we had to use the stairs as the elevator area, again, was teaming with band students. So, we walked back up to our room on the third and proceeded to get ready early for our event.

After our reunion which was held in one of the many rooms downstairs at the Holiday Inn (great evening with a wonderful buffet, delicious food and fabulous service) we headed off to bed at 2:00 a.m. for much needed sleep.

Unfortunately, at 7:00 a.m., with very little sleep, we were rudely awakened by an intoxicated woman banging on our door looking for her husband. After the third time at our door, we called the front desk and were told "is she still up there?"

Nothing was done and she proceeded to knock on the doors on the 3rd floor disturbing everyone. Finally, we personally took her down to the front desk for assistance. They did NOT even offer any type of apology or comp and we guessed they got her back to her room.

Our visit was marred by the disturbances, as I am sure were many other guests on our floor. Unfortunately, the management opted to do nothing rather than please their guests and it certainly ruined our time.

We even filled out a form regarding the problem and unfortunately we are still waiting for them to contact us. So much for the Hotel and the awards they win.

Attn: Management, if you are listening...we can still be contacted

 Owner response, March 1, 2005

Holiday Inn Youngstown South is exactly that: A Holday Inn. We're not about phony service and fake smiles. We're down to earth, friendly, and very proud of our hotel and our name. The welcome reception, where wine is served with either cheese or cookies in our lobby, is something we do because our guests have asked for it. In fact, when we didn't have it for several weeks, our guests told us they wanted it back. The Holiday Inn smoking preference guarantee applies to all reservations booked at our property (as well as at all other Holiday Inn properties). We certainly would look forward to having the opportunity to address the specific concerns of this reviewer should he/she decide to contact us.

Each year, the Holiday Inn system recognizes the hotels that guests have ranked into the top ten based on satisfaction scores. The Holiday Inn Youngstown South received its 11th Torchbearer Award in 2004. The hotel's restaurant received the Room Service and Breakfast awards for 2004. The hotel has also received Better Business Bureau awards, Priority Club Member's Choice awards for Best Hotel Staff, and more. We ask that you give us the opportunity to show you what we're all about.
